Thread DF: We've heard from multiple devs that Series S is a bit of a pain at times (regarding memory constraints not CPU/GPU power)
Depends on the game I would say, "porting" The Ascent was very easy, only needed a few commandlines basically *shrug* But once you start pushing the architecture a bit more, I...guess? Bit out of my wheelhouse though.

Thread Is Beyond Good and Evil 2 the new Textbook definition of "Vaporware" taking Duke Nukem Forever's throne?
I also find it hilarious that Beyond Good and Evil is just so much ripoff from Alastair Reynolds work. The games and trailers even align with his book releases. First game started production around the same time as Redemption Space, ripped the hyperpigs etc from there, then the sequel trailer, with the skull in the ship, also timed after the release of Revenger, in which they have skulls for communication on their ships.. and then evil space pirate jade, also fitting with revenger, with the evil space pirate sister. Quite disappointing :)

Kojima outplayed us all by releasing an assetpack in advance! It's the new meta, the game was actually out all along, in the form of assetpacks, the real journey i assembling it for yourself!

Thread The "There are dozen's of us" forum game
Realmz, a DnD-style game where you can assemble characters and play various scenarios. Was very cool because you can share characters across scenarios etc. Think it was the game that started my modding career back on Mac in like mid 90s, it came with an editor for making entire new campaigns, and I modded the art heavily.

Thread Microsoft has to fix their certification process for games on PC Gamepass (3 games this month released missing features/broken)
Because Sable could for example have submitted their patch ahead of release, but in reality the patch could have been day1 on steam, for example. A patch can fail and be held up too, which is another calculated risk.

Thread Microsoft has to fix their certification process for games on PC Gamepass (3 games this month released missing features/broken)
Because they hold back the patches on other platforms instead. It's not hard to launch patches at the same time on all platforms, you just need to wait for the slowest ones. It's more of a PR/community management thing than anything else. Do you want patches for as many playes as quickly as possible, or all at the same time, but slower?

Thread The Ascent Message from the dev team; Fixes to several reported mission blockers; Win10 Raytracing; Co-Op Improvements; Achievements
This is intentional, it get's pretty complicated, but I get why it's frustrating. For example say you play mission 1-5 on your own, then join a buddy that is on mission 11. Does your progress then get set to mission 11 and you miss all the quest-rewards inbetween? Or do we revert back your friends progress? Or do we force people to only play together? The intention is for the world and quests to update for the host, you play the hosts "world", while your character progression saves independently.

Thread Bricky - Graphics are Temporary, Art Direction is Forever
This was horrible. Battlefield 3 looked good not just because of the tech, but because the STELLAR art direction involved that makes great use of that tech. DICE has historically had fantastic art direction. A huge part of succesful art direction in games is to work together with the tech, tools, and team at hand and make the best out if it. Not just having "oooh a UNIQUE VISION" and then forcing that.

Thread Don't miss out on The Artful Escape
Most devs don't "bother" because it's not an easy issue to both notice in development, and because that requires some pretty savvy tech skills on the engine side, which most developers just don't have. I guess there is a reason why this issue is there in the engine to begin with. A developer like us has zero engine programmers, which does leave you very vulnerable and dependent on others really.

Thread Compulsion Games Says Game Pass Has 'No Negative Impact' On Development
Slightly strange headline though.. of course the monetization model does not impact development. If they said "does not impact financials" I would raise an eyebrow, since gamepass is literally a financial deal for a developer.

Thread Tales of Arise PS5 Compression Shrinks by 20GB (update: Series X, Xbox One and PC similarly small install size, PS4 is just uniquely large)
I am pretty sure this is a case of checking the "compression" checkbox in Unreal or not. Some platforms work better with compression, some without.

Because that is just the way it works unfortunately, the cost of crossplay and so on, not our descision to make. But now they should be in parity when it comes to features, except whatever differences may lurk under the surface enginewise. And the shaders shouldn't compile constantly (not at all in dx12, and only once for dx11), and it doesn't on any computer we have managed to get our hands on yet. We are trying to replicate it, but so far no luck. Could be something as arcane as The Ascent having way more shaders than your average game, and for some users the shader cache on the driver side gets full and starts to recompile constantly due to being too small. But we don't know yet.

Well, thanks to you, I did look into why it even took time for the DX12 to stabilise, because it should be instant, and it was indeed an issue from trying to fix DX11 that made DX12 slow down its initial caching. So that will be fixed for the next patch atleast.

It's not a different "version" per se. But there are differences, which is what happened with raytracing and DLSS. Steam version also has stuttering, but it's a bit hard to sort out the noise, it's not like we have accurate data unfortunately. We also mostly see the ones with issues. But we are working hard on it.

Depends on your system. For me it takes about a minute or two, but I have a rather beastly computer. If not that, then potentially the drivers shadercache could be full or too low and constantly refilling itself.

Unfortunately HDR is supposed to "just work" in Unreal, however when you do use it, it.. doesn't exactly look good, and that is the end of the documentation. It's one of those things we would like to get working further down the line, but we had to prioritise other work on the game.

Unfortunately has nothing to do with our teamsize, and everything to do with our partners. Only other solution is to delay the patch for steam users as well to make it seem like they come at the same time. Sorry bout that.

Unfortunately not, It's stuttering when caching missing shaders the first time, but it should be vastly improved for dx12 (without raytracing) at the very least. Working with our partners to try to figure out what the issue is.

Not everything can be found from drops, some is also exclusive to side missions, or placed in the world. You don't get better drops of your existing weapons, your upgraded weapon will always be the best version of it (and bounties drop more upgrade currency). The vending machines drop less kits when you blow them up, so if you really need to stock up...(oh and you can hack them) Glad you like it!

Hi, we have noted this bug! In the meantime: creating a new file on your current character will overwrite it, but what you could do (which is a bit of a workaround) is to either join another friends game and save after that, so you have a new location. Or create a new character locally, and start a local co-op game and join with the other one. Both of those should work to give you a new resume position.

Yeah, that is also something we already fixed, and is coming in upcoming patches! Using push to talk now instead. And we are working on the multiplayer connectivity with our partners.Just to doublecheck, did you use the lockon fire-augmentation perhaps? We have a bugform to fill out, it helps us to track and fix everything! All I can say is that we love to create worlds, and it would be a shame if this was a one-off thing for the IP/world :) Especially since people seem to like it as much as we had fun creating it!

A fact that I am proud of is that 100% of all the world was built and designed inhouse, with zero outsourcing for art assets. Parts of the characters and character concepts along with some VFX and graphic design were the only art outsourcing.

Yes, that is as intended. So if you are playing through the game, and then joins someone who is much further in the game, your character will not "miss" that middle of the game in your local playthrough.

I don't know exactly when, but it's already in the pipe so to speak. The quote is correct, we are working on it, but the difference is not just a storefront as one might think, the windows store version is quite literally a different version of the game/engine. As much as we would like it's not just a flip of a switch.

Thread The Ascent preload is now up. 17.05GB on Xbox, 28.76gb on pc
We are using several methods of dynamic resolution and reconstruction on all platforms/SKUs except PC, trying to maximize resolution. 900p on XB1, 4K on XB1X, 1440p on series S and 4K on Series X.Have not tried on a 480 myself, but a GTX660 can run it, if you turn stuff down, that is :)It's absolutely built with SP in mind!
