Thread [lock-on] Volume 1 - A Gaming Journal (Kickstarter campaign)
Hi ! Yes that's absolutely the intention, the obvious task being building the initial awareness and the audience knowing you exist, and kickstarter has a slight benefit in this regard. And thank you for the continued support it is very much appreciated !

Thanks for the support :) obviously building the initial awareness is the main hurdle so any exposure is extremely helpful as we have hit the dead zone of the campaign now, but we have plans already in place for volume 2 onward :)

No worries ! Sadly we can't self promote :) and help is much appreciated and we absolutely do not doubt what we have created. The main stumbling block with any start-up is the initial audience building and we have obviously come up against social platforms tendency to throttle social engagement to push advertising. As a result we are nearly solely reliant on word of mouth and as I am sure you know that takes many months. However we have several plans for Lost In Cult to put it on the map including distribution of products that are unavailable in the uk and eu and other mediums. We care deeply about media preservation and offline accessibility / Physical media and that seeps into the ethos of lock-on, this product is a love letter to gaming. We moved away from being a typical magazine and we are a collection of very personal stories around the broad spectrum of gaming, as such we have allowed our creators maximum creative freedom and we have signed many indie writers and artists who previously could not get signed on a traditional SEO website model that relies on click-bait. Every issue of lock-on will fund several writers and artists to talk about what they care about, if that was not feasible we wouldn't go forward. In terms of background, I personally have been involved in sales and analysis of Physical Games and was previously working for a multi-million pound company doing this, We see a lot of perception of physical games "dying" because of % share divides, but as we can see by the data Physical revenue has continued to mostly grow year after year and last year (2020) was no exception. PlayStation 4/5 for example have seen digital % shoot up by over 20% in the last year alone however revenue for physical increased dramatically and almost matched 2017/18 highs and is now a 14 billion dollar market. We want to be a platform for enthusiasts to access tangible well designed content, as we believe the future of any physical medium is aimed at fans and not a regular "consumer" as viewed in the eyes of many companies. Physical magazines and books can be split into two categories 1- standard retail 2- enthusiasts and as such the first of these is in rapid decline as buyers shift online, its the same situation as we see in music and film. Many years ago blockbuster revealed 20 customers rented a film to every 1 who purchased and that's the same with books - the core market is there purely for convenience and when presented with a simpler option will take it. games, music and films are no exception price is king. However what this creates is a RICH vein niche (aka a enthusiasts base) and that has allowed indie books and magazines to thrive, the obvious downsides being smaller personal reach, heavy costs etc. Physical media dying isn't a realistic concept, books films and music and games are worth tens of billions and all that we are seeing is less customers but the ones who remain buying more /spending more and as this happens quality increases, it's win-win for those who care and physical books and games are VAST markets. Any support is much welcome :)
