I'm really not sure what Allforce was referring to, as no one was banned for that, but it's not just a "fucking building". It's a part of peoples history and culture, an icon of a city. It's a tremendous loss and people may be quite upset, and they have a right to be.

I've actually been thinking of revisiting it, which I never really thought I'd want to with the Ubisoft open world format, but Odyssey really had me fall in love with the series like never before. I even recently replayed Far Cry 3 before moving onto 5 and had quite a bit fun. Glad to hear you enjoyed it OP, i'm interested to see how it holds up. I have no problem with this becoming a standard feature in Battle Royale games. I kind of hope Firestorm gets it too.For sure, It's always kind of been Epic's MO. ZZT to Kroz, Jazz Jackrabbit to Sonic/Mario, Unreal to Quake 2, Unreal Tournament to Quake 3, Fortnite to PUBG, and of course in smaller instances with mechanics and features. They've often been a studio about innovating on established ideas, and it's usually worked quite well for them.

Thread Fortnite Update - The Reboot Van [Apex Legends Respawn System]
For sure, my follow-up expanded on my point a little bit more. I could have worded my initial post better, but just wanted to quickly summarize my point with some examples and not get into too much detail as to not derail a thread. It wasn't meant to be taken too in depth, but more so say that Epic do release games that seem to mirror other major releases, and that their mentality behind producing games like Paragon and Fortnite (at least the Battle Royale part), or even feature sets like this threads subject isn't particularly new. Game design doesn't really happen in a vacuum, games are shown off and played at trade shows, covered in the press, and discussed at large in fan communities, focusing so much on release dates doesn't mean one game that's in development didn't inspire another. Quake 3 for example had it's first public test several months prior to UT's, and had a leaked prototype even before that. Again, this isn't meant as unfair criticism towards Epic, and lots of studios take this type of development philosophy.

Thread Fortnite Update - The Reboot Van [Apex Legends Respawn System]
My post and point are more stating that Epic build off the foundations of established ideas and themes and their history has often reflected this as game releases tend to mirror trends and other major releases around the time. Lots of studios of course do this, but Epic's release catalogue tend to show this to a greater degree than others. This has been an arguement for decades now. You can nitpick my points, but the overall arguement is still valid. None of this is meant to discredit the hard work that Epic do, they have been a great developer and publisher that's released some truly amazing works over the years.

Your problems are valid and you deserve to talk to a professional about them. I would talk to a doctor about them, and perhaps see about getting a referral. For sleep, and a lot of this may be basic stuff and things you're already doing, but i'm just going to run through my personal list that works for me: No caffeine after 1pm (I drink a lot of tea, so it's mostly none caffeinated green teas in the afternoon/evening). Not using anything with a screen for about 2 hours before I want to try to sleep, I will read or listen to a podcast with my phone screen turned off. No screens near my bed, I do use my phone as an alarm but it's on the other side of the room, this way i'm not tempted to check it during the night. In the morning, making sure to open your blinds and curtains and letting in a lot of sunlight, and in the evening using dimmers on screens to reduce the brightness and blues. Trying to take a walk most nights after dinner, just for a bit of exercise and to keep my routine strong. Trying to wake up at the same time each day, I set alarms for this, including for my medications, again in hopes of keeping a stronger routine. I also make meditation (usually guided) and mindfulness a part of my daily routine, I would recommend both. Some of these may sound frustrating initially, but honestly it wasn't too much of a bother once I started doing it and it really did improve my sleep. I do still struggle with keeping a healthy sleep schedule, and I have for 20 years and probably always will, but it has really helped improve it. None of these are firm rules, but just things I try to do. If I have a late night where i'm watching a movie, I don't get upset with myself, and if I have a bad night where I can't sleep, I just be gentle and practice some good self-care. Try not to be frustrated, and do some gentle, calming things, like have a nice hot bath and read book, or maybe even some baking. I find staying away from computers/phones and the internet on sleepless nights is generally a good idea.

Thread Shadow of the Tomb Raider Devs "Super Happy" With Sales and Reviews as DLC Wraps Up
This is good to hear, I was a little nervous about this games performance and I hope Square Enix are still confident in this series and we'll see more. I do wonder if this entries targets were a bit lower due to a different studio taking the lead. I was a bit apprehensive with Shadow, it's initial reveals didn't look very impressive and it's reception was rather lukewarm, but I ended up borrowing it from my library and was so impressed I immediately bought it (though it was on sale) with the DLC and it's easily my favourite of the reboot franchise. If i'm looking at them all critically, I do think they are all probably about even in quality, each with it's own strengths and weaknesses, with perhaps the first entry still being just slightly the best, but Shadow's much bigger emphasis on it's puzzles and exploration and reduced focus on combat really worked for me. I love how this entry has different difficult settings for those 3 core elements too. There was so many moments of awe and inspiration, and it felt paced far closer to the classic series and I really appreciated that. Didn't feel like it was jumping me from set pieces or forcing me into combat encounters too quickly, it really gave each area and story beat room to breathe. I quite like how the DLC works and added more puzzles and quests into the base game, or had them as optional extras for challenge runs, nearly doubling the amount of challenge tombs in the game. A big improvement over the fairly mediocre expansions that Rise saw, at least for me. If anyone that enjoyed either of the first two but is on the fence about this entry, I would highly recommend it. Know that it does take a step back in some areas, the combat isn't quite as strong, most notably the feedback from enemies (muzzle flashes on weapons being quite basic, no blood splatter effects, combat just has a little less life in it), and some of the sound design is a bit weaker (those really nice UI sound prompts are quite a bit more basic), but the overall sound design is still strong, with a very good musical score and weapon and environmental sounds. The story is about on par with the last two entries, the dialogue is a bit poor and story overall is fun, and executes on some themes and tropes better than the past entries, but I wouldn't call a step forward in it's overall execution. It really excels with it's environmental designs and puzzles though, that is where the game shines and what I look for in a Tomb Raider game. There is a lot more I could get into, but that's not really what this thread is about and I just waned to quickly give my opinion on the game.

Hey Myco666, I know you've been struggling with regular ideation for sometime and to be honest it's a challenge for me too. What helped me the most was taking courses on cognitive behaviour therapy, I know Ketkat has mentioned this to you before but have you been able to talk to your doctor, a therapist, or counsellor about it? It's something I would really recommend looking into, if you have the option. These skills can also help you catch and challenge those self-destructive thoughts and impulses. Sleep is a whole other thing for me too, if I work hard I can keep a fairly regular sleep schedule and routine. I'd be happy to give you some advice as to what works for me if you like? Let me know :).You're welcome to share, Soma.Taking group therapy programs helped me get out of a bit of a bad rut i'd dug myself into. Is that something you've looked into or have any experience with? It's definitely not an answer to meeting people or making friends, but it is a way to have a connection to others while working on yourself and taking steps to move forward.

Is that really your take away, that shes angry? It seems pretty far from the Lindsey that I watched, I saw someone who was passionate about what she loved, and wanted to journey as far as she was capable of to discover if there was more behind The Hobbit trilogy than she initially saw - thats the crux of these videos, her passion, and why they are quite powerful, personal, almost biographic, and through that plenty of people will discover the very nature of not just the films but the intent of the studios and the strong-arming of a nation that happened behind them. Brava Lindsey.

Thread Lindsay Ellis - The Hobbit: The Desolation of Warners (Part 3/2)
She has covered the movies rather extensively, and this being part 3/2, not just as a joke, but with how part 2 ended off we knew this was likely going to be what she was tackling this episode. Theres a difference between an industry being known to be quite ruthless and some of the degrees that are presented here, as you can tell by some of the reactions in this very thread. She wasn't surprised by this, perhaps just the severity of it and is merely drawing attention to it, as we need to keep doing. I don't think the Hobbit films (well, the first two, i've not seen the third) are nearly as bad as the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but they are often soulless, studio manufactured, and misguided in addition, thematic direction and pacing. Taking that into account and the broader picture of how they were produced shines a new light on the entire franchise that can have you re-evaluate it with a different critical lens than you once did, its far less "it ruined my childhood" and more so just seeing things in different way than before, as its difficult to separate what we now know and the project as a whole, including The Hobbit films from the initial three. I've never been the biggest fan of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, as the books were more my childhood, but i'll certainly see them in a different light, as i would have after aging and maturing, as i would after watching The Hobbit films, and as i would after watching Lindsey's videos essays, each bringing new perspective and insight.

I've been thinking about this for hours and I have to go with Breath of the Wild. Both games are absolutely amazing, but the reinvention of the formula while exploring the ideas and philosophies that created the original Zelda are what tips my vote for BoTW. Also the sound design is phenomenal. I can completely understand people going with Bloodborne though, and I adore the game, but I always thought it didn't quite execute on some of its ideas and themes as well as it could, and did noticeably have a few lacking areas (Byrgenwerth). While they're a little slower paced with the first wave here, which is a shame, they're still on pace for that while adding in the Battle Royale mode, which I know isn't for everyone, but it does look quite good. Battlefield V has some really excellent gameplay and it's a damn fine game. I'm going to judge this none Premium Pass model when it's all done, but not splitting up the player base and having a lower cost of entry for a lot of players is definitely a win for me, and Battlefront 2, which yes had a terrible launch, did recover really nicely and has seen an impressive amount of support which has matched or exceeded the originals post launch content.

The only time I would expect good grammar standards or really even judge someone's grammar is in an academic or business setting. Don't get me wrong, it's great to have good grammar otherwise, but if people get a few things wrong or are bellow average, I just assume it's someone being a bit quick with their writing, English isn't their first language, or even that they may be from a less privileged background. All of which are perfectly fine. For myself, it's been decades since I've been in an environment where I've had to regularly practice good grammar standards and they've weakened over the years.

Thread LTTP: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey—Era, why didn’t you tell me this is so good? (Or, I missed the Ubisoft formula, surprisingly enough)
I put about 160 hours into it and can't wait for more. It definitely has flaws and doesn't execute on all it's ideas and mechanics as well as it could, and the dialogue is poorly written for the most part, but I loved it so, so much. I wouldn't quite call it a must play game, but I think it does so much so well. Easily my favourite game in the franchise, and I hope its gameplay mechanics with its skills and character choice are the template moving forward. Also, Lalaia is one of the most beautiful little areas in any game. The art and design teams behind this out did themselves (though a few forts do repeat themselves a bit too much). And yes, Kassandra is awesome (I do quite like Alexios too, but I think Kassandra is quite a bit more charismatic). I recommend playing the game with quite a few of the HUD options turned off, at least once you're a little more comfortable, I can't quite remember what I had mine customized to, but it was really a bit too busy by default. I had over half the options turned off and found it quite a bit more immersive and I still had all the information I needed.

Messy, some poor structure, but some jokes I really liked, and some clever new bits. I was happier than I expected to be with it, but my expectations were quite low. I also just needed a bit of escapism after the last couple of weeks, so that could have skewed my judgement. Not a big fan of the actual final episode, but I enjoyed most of the rest and was happy I watched it.No, they really pull away from it here. Thread Arrested Development Season 5 Part 2 Official Trailer
So I think a lot of us have had a rough few days and I've been a bit out of it, and going into this my expectations were pretty low so that likely effected my overall opinion, but I did really quite like this. I thought there were lots of clever jokes and wordplay, good callbacks, a few new interesting and clever bits, and it felt dense but not overly so or a bit convoluted like season 4 did, and while it still has structural issues and not all the jokes land, it was tighter and funnier than the first half of season 5. I think there are a lot of flaws still, some characters go underused, the ADR is really bad, which is something the series has always been a bit poor with, but it's far more noticeable here, and some scenes feel strangely put together and paced at times, but overall, yeah, I liked it. I imagine they are ending here, and for me, it's ending on a better note than I expected with how things were going, though my feelings may change when I re-watch this, and like I say my current overall mood may be effecting my judgement here too.

Perhaps not made by wizards, but some damn fine management and coordination between teams producing these impressive works.

I think it looks great and definitely will play it at some point, but not at launch. The character creation, creating and playing with builds (I know this game still does have some), and online mechanics were my favourite parts of Dark Souls and to a lesser extent Bloodborne. I also have a bit of a backlog at the moment that i'm happy to work through. Definitely excited for this game, but i'm in no rush to play it.

I have dual citizenship and always kept my UK passport renewed, but post Brexit there just won't be much of a point. Will be a bit sad to let it go.As a child I travelled the world with my family and feel all the more rich for it. It's nice to hear from you . It's tough, it took me a long time to learn to be kinder and more gentle with myself and I have moments I still feel like i'm not making progress, just treating water, or generally worthless, but i'm getting better at challenging them. It's a skill. Though a tough cycle to get trapped in, for sure.I'm sorry to hear about you losing this job, I know you've always really disliked it, but sometimes that comfort and stability a job offers is nice and can keep us in a crummy job longer than it probably should. I was going to ask if programming is really for you, as you've spoken about it for awhile and don't seem to be too passionate about it, but I think a better question would be have you spoken to a doctor about the difficulty you're having, or ever discussed medications with a doctor/psychiatrist? Don't worry about answering that if it's too personal, but given everything you've shared with us I think it would be a beneficial conversation to have, as it sounds like the little boost and emotional balance that medications may provide could give you a little bit of help in taking other steps towards improving things. It's not a fix, but can be a tool, and if therapy, counselling, or even group programs are available to you, i'd look into and pursue those. It sounds like cognitive behavioural therapy (or CBT) specifically may be quite helpful.

My feelings and love for it have only grown as I reflect back on it. I still think it has some areas it could have done better, especially things like having a few more traditional dungeons and a better visual variety when it came to the Shrines and Divine Beasts, but what it does it does so amazingly well and is nothing short of a magical experience that captured my attention like few games of the last few generations. One of the greatest games of all time and well deserving of its scores and reputation.

Symphony is really amazing in all these regards. It gave you such a varied box to play with when it came to items, weapons, and just random little fun things. It is a little broken and unbalanced, but that kind of adds to the charm too.You can do a lot of different character builds in Hollow Knight, and gain some new abilities and techniques as you progress, but the core attacks will remain quite similar. Weapon variety is not Hollow Knight's strength, but it has many others. I do quite prefer the combat in Hollow Knight to its peers however, and it still offers a great deal of variety, just not to the experimental level of Symphony of the Night. Don't let this one area put you off, go in with the right expectations and Hollow Knight can be a wonderful experience. I have not enjoyed a game of this genre as much since playing SotN for the first time.

Either they got the got remake and remaster backwards there, or are concerned that a studio other than From wouldn't do Demon's Souls justice if it were to be remade. If it I pick up a Switch I definitely will (and I am planning to, just waiting to see if we hear about a hardware revision), the reason I passed on the PS4 version was due to the soundtrack. Though I am kind of hoping the extras do come to the PS4 release, but i'm not too bothered if they don't, the Switch is getting the game quite a bit later and the PS4 version will still have some strengths over it even with the extras. Thread Do you care about 90+ Metacritic score?
No. I'm not too interested in review scores in general and even less in meta scores, but I do think reviews are important as a general way to inform consumers. For example, I was curious about Anthem, but reading some reviews and hearing some of it's issues with design, tech, and how it hasn't really learned from the mistakes of other similar games this gen, it's all kind of confirmed my feelings that it's fine to skip it. I'm way more interested in the idea of games being interesting or not interesting rather than being outright good or bad. As there are plenty of games that I don't think review very well, or would be considered high tier games, that I think are worth checking out and propose and explore interesting ideas, and I think there are games that review very well which are a bit dull and not necessarily worth my time. So really, I just check out and spend time with what i'm interested in and what I think will be interesting rather than putting too much weight into review metrics or if a game is a 90+ mc game, though as I said, reviews are still important.

Good health can be a journey for many of us and it certainly was and is for me, there are ups and downs and periods where it may feel like you're regressing or just treading water. A big thing that I had to learn was being kind to myself even when I wasn't doing well, just gently reminding myself that it's OK to not make progress, it's OK to have a bad day, week, month, or however long, and to take more time to myself if I needed, or to try to do more things that improve my quality of life even if it felt selfish at the time. Even if we're struggling we deserve niceties and things that we can enjoy. Or even just things that may be good for harm reduction. Try to be a little kinder to yourself, you deserve it, and you're doing well, keep at it, and be sure to tell your therapist how you're feeling with all this.

Thread Is Assassin Creed Odyssey worth it for $20?
I really quite loved it. It's my favourite in the series and while the writing is a bit poor, the scenario and characters are quite memorable, but it's the gameplay, design, and world that really shine. The grinding isn't an issue so long as you do some of the side content, and I wouldn't call it filler, some of the most fun and intriguing content is in the side quests, especially with the post launch content (there is a lot of free stuff). They did also address the level scaling in a patch and while the game still does have level scaling, it has a wider range now making it feel a quite a bit better so the lower level areas aren't just automatically being bumped up to your level if you so desire. Both the leads are quite good, but I found Kassandra to be far more appealing. I'd also recommend playing in exploration mode with a very limited HUD (I think I had just the compass and enemy health bars on).

I don't think it's necessarily, but i'd love it if they did. I really enjoy the first two games. I think Dark Moon is a little better too to be honest. The original has a bit more charm, and Dark Moon's mission structure is a weakness, but it's improvements to combat and emphasis on puzzle solving, exploration, and secrets really worked with the formula better. I can't say it's actually a better game, but I preferred it, and I think it's a little underrated or people wrote it off too quickly because of some upfront flaws or changes instead of taking into account what it also improved on. I didn't think it was done out of malice or bigotry, but it does seem to be getting worse and after well over a decade of concerns and issues in the Persona games, and not just the more hateful and problematic queer representation, but issues with the MC's and women, it's all just a bit much for me and I just don't feel comfortable supporting the company at the moment. You can, and that's how I played it. Disabling random encounters while travelling, back tracking, or searching for secrets is very nice, and combined with the speed up function made it a more enjoyable experience to revisit the game as well to just play closer to today's standards as the combat engine for IX is so slow, even compared to VII and VIII. However i'm sure there are plenty who would rather play it in it's purest form and that music bug would be frustrating, though i'd still say this is a solid way to experience IX playing like that.

I know people were a bit mixed on 7 but I found it's multiplayer to be a lot of fun and an improvement over DS and Wii's. I really hope they bring the mission mode back in the next entry.

Thread If we get a straight port of TP HD from Wii U with no updated visuals...
With some texture work, model updates, and a new lighting engine, Twilight Princess could really shine again. It's a shame it didn't receive a bit of a better remaster. It did always feel like Twilight Princess HD was there to fill a gap in the release window and while i'm still glad it released and had a lot of fun playing through it again (probably the most fun i'd ever had with the title) and there definitely are some nice tweaks to the game, i'd love to see them do a little more with it.

Thread Where do I go from here..?
I think it shows a lot of courage to discuss and approach this in the way you have, . The resilience and reflection you've shown, exercising, tying to focus again on eating , making lists, you're a strong person and you will make it through this. Transitional periods can be so difficult, and I think it's pretty amazing that even though you were aided by this person in the way you were, you still built things outside of relationship and were wary to not become codependent. You will find things again to give you strength and joy. Are you able to see a therapist, psychiatrist, or counsellor at the moment? I know you mentioned some wait lists and I know with free or low income programs there can be a bit of a wait but I would definitely recommend pursuing this as an option, and as a first step meeting with a doctor and discussing your mood and suicidal ideation. It might be good to just talk a little more about this, it does sound like you're a bit limited on how you can do that but you're welcome to come join us in our for some informal peer support, and we also have a Discord setup if you prefer a more chat room like setting. If you do feel like you're in a particularly bad spot you can try a crisis phone or text line, these don't have to be just for when you're in an emotional crisis but can be used to prevent yourself from reaching that heightened state. I've had to before and it's nice to know they are there as a resource if needed.

Thread Chrono Trigger: SNES vs. DS translations
Chrono Trigger excels, at least for me, for it's charming cast of characters, wonderful and varied visual style, fast paced and interesting combat system, amazing soundtrack, and, perhaps most importantly, it's pacing. I've not played the SNES and DS versions close enough together to comment on their translation differences, but I don't remember one being much of a standout from the other. CT just felt like such a fresh take on RPG's and pushed them quite a bit forward when it released. It still may have been quite early for the genre, but for me few games have come close to matching the experience it offered, but it has aged. I think very well for a game of it's vintage, and it's certainly still a classic, but it's not going to make the same impact on everyone like it once did.

Thread Y'all need to explain why Yoshi's Woolly World isn't a contender to Yoshi's Island without trotting out 'B-Team' and 'Unoriginal'
It's a really fantastic game but I didn't think it quite matched the original. It's not nostalgia talking either, I didn't play Yoshi's Island until the early 2000's when I was well into my 20's. The game has lots of strengths and we can celebrate them on their own, I don't really feel like Woolly World is quite in the shadow of Island compared to the past sequels.

Thread Y'all need to explain why Yoshi's Woolly World isn't a contender to Yoshi's Island without trotting out 'B-Team' and 'Unoriginal'
Sometimes it can be difficult to quantify the quality of one game over another, but i think did a good job with a basic summary saying "The level design and platforming mechanics simply don’t come together as well as they do in the original game, and neither does the music. The art is the one and only area where I think Wooly World stacks up.", it's simply put, but we aren't going to be expected to write an essay on it here to really break it all down. I'd also add the games pace is quite a bit slower than Yoshi's Island and can be a bit dull compared to the original due to this.

Even Battlefront 2 really turned around from it's launch and has been a pretty fantastic game to play casually, and a really great value too (I love the DLC model once they addressed things), and I genuinely love Battlefield V and play it almost daily with friends, though there are a few nitpicks.

Thread How is Deus Ex Mankind Divided?
I really enjoyed it and while it falls short of Human Revolution or the original it was still a great game with many standout qualities and moments. It is however the setup to a story we likely won't see the continuation of, though as a game it feels like it has enough content on it's own. The second DLC episode was also quite good with a fairly unique premise (being set inside a prison with much less focus on combat). I'd definitely recommend it, especially for cheap.

I think so, more than any Mario Kart follow-up 8 seems like a direct sequel to 7 and will feel quite similar. It has great tracks with a lot to offer and is still a game I boot up from time to time. It doesn't quite have the same trills or sense of speed from 8, but for a nearly 7 year old portable game it is quite excellent.

Thread Battlefield V Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes Starts January 17th
To be honest, I think it's pretty fantastic. While it's launched with less content than past iterations, and that is a valid criticism, with it's roadmap and release model, all future content releases without a a cost to the player and there are other advantages here. Content likely won't die off like in past Battlefield games where it became difficult to find matches for certain expansions, and they can release new content faster instead of waiting for several maps to roll out at once meaning we'll see updates more often. Currently there are 9 maps (I believe Battlefield 4 launched with 10 and One with 9), and the new Grand Operations mode does make some of those maps a bit more dynamic. 4 single player campaigns each with 3 missions, and with what's to come I think it's a good value. I do also love the game going back to focusing on squad play and having more limited resources for the player making support classes more important. It feels like it captures the Battlefield spirit more than the past few entries, at least to me it does. It's on it's way to be my favourite entry since 1942, though to be fair I didn't play a lot of One.

Thread Gillette’s inspiring new toxic masculinity ad asks: “Is this the best a man can get?”
Sure, it's an advert, but the message can still resonate with people and it is an important one. We can discuss the message separate from the ad, I doubt many here are suddenly going to rush out buy more Gillette products, though they may view the company more favourably so we can argue it was still successful. It may have been a calculated move cooked up by ad execs, but this type of media representation can help normalize attitudes and does have merit. It reminds me a little of that ad that Campbell's had when they featured a same sex couple and people were criticizing them for pandering, but honestly it was just really nice to see a a gay couple in a commercial. That meant a lot to me, and i'm sure did a lot of people. There is a good message here. I think it's worth focusing on that.

Oh, yeah, lot's of anxiety. This is a stressful time of year and i'm always a bit thankful when it comes to a close. I try to focus on enjoying the time I do have with people, rather than worry about what may come. Practising a lot of mindfulness, being in the present etc. I find to be quite helpful in this. Feel like around January 2nd or so I can come down from being a bit too anxious. They can be quite hard, indeed. I did do a lot of extra little things for myself this year in hopes of making it a bit easier. Always lovely to hear John Linneman's thoughts on games, though I've yet to play Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, but read Linneman's write up of it in another thread and do look forward to it. The Wonder Boy series has always meant a lot to me, with the first entry being the first game I ever played. Tetris Effect is my game of the year, and one of the highlights of the generation. It's something I imagine i'll be playing for the next 20 years, which I last felt with Lumines. Thread Are we over-labeling the alt-right?
I think the answer is really yes and no. I think we throw the term around too much, or more so are too quick to label people with conservative or far right views as Alt-Right (though i understand these are sensitive times and people can be quick to anger with trolls and people arguing in bad faith) or even just apply it to white supremacy when really its far more encompassing ( being also focused on anti-feminist, misogynist, transphobic, abelist, anti-intellectual, classist, authoritarian, etc. agendas), and i think calling people a Nazi a Nazi (or Neo-Nazi just as its harder to argue back against) is important, but also calling someone Alt-Right when they are in fact that, is also important, but also specifying their hatred they are expressing to attach it to that word to prevent them from normalizing it. Also, fuck Scott Adams, but hes not alt-right, just a loud mouthed mostly far right idiot.

Hey VISION, if there is anything you'd like to talk about we're more than happy to listen and chat :).It can just be about finding the right balance, it doesn't have to be daily exercise, and you don't have to skip out on the things you love and enjoy. Just a bit of exercise and thoughtful diet which can have plenty of room for indulgences (mine certainly does), and you can work on yourself however you can, through mediation and reflection, therapy, or what worked the best for me, group work. I struggled with addiction for well over a decade of my life, and I know how hard that can be, and though it may not always feel like it, there are other paths to take. It's best to view self improvement as it's own goal.I've felt that way in the past before too, but it's not true. We can just be a little hard on ourselves at times, especially when battling depression. We do have a Mental Health Discord setup for people to chat in, it's been a tad quiet as of late but if you'd like to join (this goes for anyone of course, but i'll do a proper reminder post about it later today), please let me know.

The worst I ever had was some mild lightheadedness when adjusting to new medications. Similar to stan_marsh I did also have to try a few different types of medications and dosages until I found a set that really worked for me, and I never found SSRI's to be very effective and ended up prescribed a different type of antidepressant, though I've seen plenty of people react really positively to them. It's best just to keep an open mind, and know that it's OK if you find you may have to try a few different medications before you find something that works for you.I don't have any firsthand experience with prozac, but if you find your current medication to be ineffective it's probably best to pursue other options and give it a try.It sounds like you're taking a great step here with seeing your psychologist, and I would talk this it out with them as i'm sure you've planned. I know if it were me experiencing these difficulties i'd probably try to have a very frank and open conversation with my wife about why i'm experiencing these issue and the anxieties that go along with that. It sounds like you've recently approached the subject, but being more open about it may help take the pressure of you, and help her understand the situation better.

Thread Starting Dark Souls 2: SOTFS. What should I know?
There are, but the game does have systems to help with this. The life gem system helps quite a bit, you have more healing resources to help deal with chip damage, and can pop one or two prior to starting battle if you're worried you're going to take too much damage. You can also use ranged weapons or spells to target and lure out single enemies or draw them away from one another. I found mob management in this game to all be quite fun. While 2 is a lesser entry, I still always have a great time with it and have spent hundreds of hours on this title. Also, I think Scholar was an improvement over the original, not in every area, but an improvement overall.

Thread So what’s the best version of Dark Souls 2?
Not to be contrarian, but just to share a differing opinion: I played Scholar before Vanilla (i wrote of DS2 due to GAF's feedback on it, but later decided to give it a go with the PS4 version) and really enjoy the Iron Keep. It feels like the enemies are spaced out just enough so you can deal with each one before having to deal with the next, though you definitely have to use range to your advantage to occasionally pull and watch out for the archer bolts coming in, it became quite exhilarating and its one of my fav areas on repeat playthroughs. Though its not an area you can effectively run through, you're quite right.

Thread So what’s the best version of Dark Souls 2?
You can get the Dull Ember quite a bit earlier in Scholar too which is nice.I always took that as how the fight increases in difficulty throughout, its the arena and additional enemies that changes making it more interesting. It is also ultimately completely optional, but i felt it was a strong addition.

Thread So what’s the best version of Dark Souls 2?
There are two versions of Scholar of the First Sin. A 360, PS3 and DX9 PC version, they are Dark Souls 2 1.10 version bundled with all the DLC. The PS4, Xbox One and DX11 PC version (yes, its a different version) have some small visual fidelity and engine improvements and remixed enemy and item locations. Some areas benefit from this, others don't, but i think overall its the better version. The 8th gen/DX11 does like to go for higher enemy counts in some areas, but i actually quite like this and think the games systems handle it well. Just don't lock on, adapt your build for it as some weapons and magic favour group combat and have some life gems as back up.

Thread So what’s the best version of Dark Souls 2?
Just to put a different spin on this i thought it was really nice that they designed small and optional areas specifically around co-op play. You also didn't need to own the DLC in the base game to join people in these areas, which was pretty great on Froms part (though this is irrelevant in Scholar).

I didn't think very much of the bonus levels from the original release, and have heard the additional Switch levels are pretty great, though I believe there aren't quite as many. The second screen on the Wii U version is used to interact with the various environmental switches (platforms, fans, etc.) as well as for a few first person sections. If it was a toss up between them, i'd go with the Switch version for the superior added content. Though I don't think you can wrong with either, but do be sure to play it. Hoping for a Revelations 3 announcement at some point, only with online co-op and Sheva as a playable character. The RE games that have focused on co-op haven't really been horror games, more so campy action set pieces with a spooky dressing. I think it's best if the Revelations (or some spin-off) series focuses on co-op, and let's the main series go back to it's roots when it comes to atmosphere, tension, and progression. The co-op that 5, 6 and Revelations 2 had was really great, and fairly unique for the industry. Certainly something that will hopefully continue.

Thread Skyward Sword vs. BOTW: for those who have played a substantial amount of both, which do you prefer?
I've played both quite extensively and while I think some of Skywards Swords strengths often go ignored, and that's a shame as it really does have some great design choices and elements, BoTW is such an incredible game and one of my favourites of all time. I can't even tell you how powerful of an experience it was for me. I've quite a history with the Zelda franchise, owning the original on my NES a few years after launch, and to see so many of those elements make a return or be re-imagined into this new world was just fantastic. Sure, I would've liked a few more divine beats, and prefer traditional dungeons over the shrines, but the experience as a whole was just such an incredible and refreshing journey for not only the franchise, but gaming in general. Though the shrines really did remind me a lot of Portal. Really, the whole game reminded me a bit of the first time I played Half-Life 2 and just enjoyed playing with the physics and engine. I'd love to see the next entry focus a bit more on traditional dungeons, and maybe cut down the shrines quite dramatically (even hide some in the dungeons), but BoTW is a far greater game than Skyward Sword, and is up there with the original, LTTP, and Ocarina of Time.

I've mostly stopped drinking a few years ago, with occasional exceptions (I did have a few beers on election night), but it's probably about once or twice a year that I do. I don't smoke anything, I tried it a lot when I was younger but never enjoyed smoking pot, though I do have quite a history with other drugs. With it recently becoming legal here, I may try again. I do however usually take hallucinogenics about once a year, usually LSD, but sometimes mushrooms.

I was so glad I kept watching to catch it. A recent one that I've really enjoyed and would highly recommend was MitchFlowerPower and GrandPOOBear doing a vs race of Super Mario Bros 3 in the All Forts category, and it doesn't go quite as planned. It's a great watch, and has a lot of what makes speedrunning so great. They also had a recent follow up to this run that's worth a watch.

I love unlocking characters in fighting games, even doing it with friends can be a blast. It does really feel like Ultimate is going to have a ton of playability with this structure though, and I think it's the right choice for Smash.

Yes, to a degree, when grocery shopping I avoid American owned products that I am aware of, though of course I imagine some are still owned by American companies that i'm unaware of. Trump's rhetoric on Canada and trade is more than enough to make me feel more comfortable trying to buy strictly Canadian. I've also noticed that almost all our advertisements over the last year or so almost always specify that their product is Canadian, and highlight the Canadian product over it's American counterpart, which I feel wasn't the case, at least not nearly as much, prior to Trump's tantrums about Canada.

Thread women of era, how do you feel about being "cold approached"?
In my experience with bartending/working in bars you definitely should never ask a bartender out, or really anyone while they are at work, it's an awkward way to corner someone and really put them on the spot, if they have to still serve you or interact with you as a customer after. The women I worked with would complain rather frequently, not about specifically being asked out, as it was so rare (and with reason), but just about constant uncomfortable interactions with people flirting/hitting on them.

Somewhat, yeah, in my 20's. Managed a store where a lot of my friends would come and hang out during the day as we had a social and gaming area, we went out to the pub afterwards at least a few nights a week with at least one where we'd get way too intoxicated and end up doing something interesting (or stupid), like skinny dipping in the lake, climbing on the rooftops of the downtown area, or take some LSD and go sit in a park and chat until the sun came up.

Man the GAF threads were so much fun for Lost, i think its a big reason of why i enjoyed it so much, that and my partner at the time really dug it. We did learn fairly earn on though that this was a show that you just watch for the journey, and always knew the pay off or reveals would likely be weak but even with that caveat the final season is pretty awful. Still, i look back really fondly on the show and will probably watch it all again at some point in my life, but probably down the road a bit. They aren't literally nazi's, but it is a new wave of American fascism, and the nazi comparison can be apt with the excessive authoritarianism, bigoted, hateful policy and racial, xenophobic fear mongering and Trumps disturbing habit to imitate Hitlers speeches and parlance*. Are we going to reach ethnic cleansing? No. Do American citizens need to start an armed revolt? No, but what is happening is appalling, and people are right to be shocked, outraged, and to carry that anger forward until they can vote, and past that so the nation doesn't make these mistakes again. This isn't conservative ideology anymore, this is Trumpism, and it fascism. * -

Most of the conversation about this was essentially "Hey, i see this as being potentially problematic, I hope the game isn't going too hard in this direction, still really looking forward to it though!" and that was outrage? Ridiculous. Criticism is not outrage, and the "outrage" that people like Sargon, thunderf00t, TheQuatering, or even just Brietbart manufacture to get their fans or readers into a proper tizzy is not only a bit ironic but dismissive, problematic, and caustic.

It was a bit trying to go through this process, but I can say it certainly was worth it in the end. Yes, everyone is welcome here, and welcome :). I know when I was younger i'd get a little hot headed in some discussions too and had to learn to distance myself. These days it's not a problem, but I did learn a long time ago to recognize the signs of becoming agitated or frustrated and to step away before it became an issue of where I would be emotionally bothered by it. It's something you can work on with practice. If you are finding particular difficulty with it, you can look into things like cognitive behavioural therapy (often referred to as CBT) which can teach you some practical skills to deal with emotional regulation.

This really didn't bother me very much, she's already worth quite a lot, and if it ensures the rest of the cast and crew, some who haven't worked in acting in sometime, can continue on with a hopefully lucrative and successful show, and I think that's worthwhile. The show is ultimately, even the new run, a somewhat progressive voice that targets middle America (though with the occasional poor episode or flubbed message). It is not a conservative show, despite how some people view it, and I think a show like this may be important in the current climate. It's also entirely likely she was low balled, as if she didn't accept this offer she'd be screwing over her former colleagues yet again.

I'm a big fan of moving a bit slow when it comes to this type of progress and work, small steps, one day, week, or month at a time. We move at the speed that is right for us in the moment, there is no rush. Have you tried a bit of exercise before bed, or perhaps some guided meditations? I do a no screens an hour or two before bed, and no screens near the bed and that helps. Some nights i'll even taking some melatonin if i feel it may have a particularly difficult time getting to sleep. I've had sleeping issues since a teenager, its a bit of a constant struggle to keep a decent sleep routine, but some months are harder than others, so I feel ya. Yes, I think pursuing therapy and discussing medication with a doctor would be a good idea to help deal with your anxiety. I take medication for mine. You can ask your doctor, if you have one, and discuss this with them, or even get a referral to a psychiatrist. Glad to hear you're giving something like that a try, I've had a lot of success with pursuing medication, but I had to try a few different types and play around with doses before I found a medication combination that worked for me. 1. I think just being upfront and asking is fine, but its always good to phrase it kindly, "What gender do you identify as?", or something like that. 2. English is lacking in gender neutral terms, I think 'they' can be used fine, though it can certainly depend on familiarity, context and inflection, and some may be more sensitive to certain wording than others, if a person expresses they'd like you to use specific pronouns, try to be respectful of such. Personally, i try to be gender neutral whenever possible, it has nothing to do with someone being trans. 3. If you're at the point where you're considering being intimate with someone, and there is an attraction there, honestly, and this may require a some amount of personal reflection, does it really matter? No respectful partner is ever going to have you to do anything you are uncomfortable with. Also, read through some of the thread. I think you'll be glad you did.

No, and far from it currently. I've had periods in my life where I've made very good income, but losing my business a few years back and trying too risky of a strategy to keep it afloat in the final years meant losing a lot of my savings. In my defence I had other people on the payroll, and wanted to make sure everyone was treated fairly and made it out OK when things went downhill. So unfortunately, I lost what could've been a dream job, and one that I had helped created, but we were open for nearly 10 years and though there were ups and downs I reflect on it very fondly. I'm currently in the process of going back to college, though a drastic shift in fields, and when all is said and done should be living comfortably again in a few years, and will be able to build back up - hopefully. I do agree that the gameplay can be viewed as mediocre, though it was still a step forward for the series in many regards, the games strengths however are in the complete package and it really does shine in many areas. Great world design, really quite immersive, fun story with some fairly good missions and variety, huge amount of content, both for the main campaign and side activities. Its a great game overall, even if some areas of it are a bit limited, even for its time. Maybe its time to give it another play.

Definitely this, Simon's Quest has its moments and is fairly easy once you get going with a guide. Dracula's Curse however is an entirely different beast, and is one of the best games in the franchise.

This is what I came here to say, every part you mentioned here is something I appreciate so much about this game, especially its use of dissonance. It does have flaws, even some genuinely problematic ones outside of structure or gameplay, but it is still a worthwhile experience for those that wouldn't be too put off by that.

Very interesting, two studios i'm quite a fan of but for very different reasons. Though Pinchbeck's words there do seem quite optimistic, especially with The Chinese Room's fate as of the last few years. Very much looking forward to what becomes of this. Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture are two of my favourite games.

Some of those concerns do translate to the other games, but to lesser and stronger degrees depending on the entry. It is a diverse series, though with a strong core identity. I do think you're in for quite a treat. SMT IV is a bit dull at the start too, it took awhile for it to grab me, and while I am quite fond of the game, its a bit low on my list.

Thread Did the change from flat to spherical perspective ruin Animal Crossing for anyone else?
No, it didn't ruin it, but I do prefer the flat look. Its a shame you couldn't get used to it OP, but at least you gave it a good try. I wonder if they'll go for something a bit different with the Switch entry, i'm not sure how well that style would translate to a large modern TV in higher resolution than City Folk.

Thread Is VR dead for now?
I'm still really interested in VR, but the cost of entry is too high, and being primarily a console games i'm nervous about investing in a PSVR so late into the generation. If costs come down a little next gen, i may jump in early on to try to get a good value for it.

Thread Which are the most Frontloaded games ever?
Quake 1 falls into this category for more, the first two episodes are really excellent, the third is a step down and the fourth is kind of awful. Every time I replay the game I forget just how bland it is, and it drags on. I know it was still a part of the shareware model, and most games using that distribution method would fall into this category, but it really could've used some newer additions and much better level design in its back half. Still, an incredible game and one i return too often, but its quite front loaded.

Thread Best to upgrade to a Pro or wait for Sony's new console?
I upgraded mine when a good trade in deal came around at EB Games earlier this year, got rid of my launch unit, picked up the Pro at a discount with a copy of a new release game for free, and was quite happy with that decision. Realistically you'll get at least two years of use out of the system, have a higher end system to sell/trade in if that's an option you want to take when the next generation starts, or have the Pro to hang on to if backwards compatibility isn't a feature. I'd say go for it.

Thread Please change to Disc 2
Back in the 8-bit micros it was a bit of a hassle, trying to play some games on an Amiga without a hard-drive, on the later 5th generation consoles though there were moments of excitement, especially for long RPG's where it really felt like you'd hit an important milestone and were so excited for what was coming next, but i tired of it by the end of the generation. It was an excellent gag, but the launch version of the game requiring multiple several minute installations as you progressed through chapters made me miss swapping discs. It did not feel like a step forward.

Thread I love you, Castlevania 64
I don't love Castlevania 64, but I did really like it, hasn't aged that well though, even for its generation. You are right, it is the best transition of 2D -> 3D Castlevania, the atmosphere is fantastic, and the game really does have some memorable moments even if i do have some rather unpleasant thoughts associated with transporting the nitro. I do wish they built on this games foundations instead of giving us Lament of Innocence. I never did play Legacy of Darkness though, bit of a shame.

The article is right, the system still has quite a bit of life left in it and is a nice cheaper alternative, or great for younger audiences. I still really enjoy it, gives the games a sense of progression, but i'd be in favour of having a cheat code to unlock them just in case you've got your mates round. I don't believe so, I don't think they have save states either (i've yet to play it, just recall reading this in a review). Instead, they opted for introducing a new easy mode to all the games that adjusts the player damage given and received, which is an acceptable and perhaps even preferable approach as its a bit more organic than rewind or save state functionality.

Thread Why is the media buying into Trump's narrative?
The Politico poll shows 53% unfavourable and the CNN shows only 41% approve, but the main take away is that Muellers favourability in the polls is dropping, the Trump administrations attack on the investigation and constant "witch hunt!" is working, which is what the media is reporting on. You will however see plenty of reporting on CNN and MSNBC that discusses and debates the investigation in a positive light, and Trumps views and attacks on it negatively. Especially the nightly scripted programs line Anderson Cooper and Rachel Maddow.

Thread Games You've Beaten in July? (+June's results)
Really enjoyed it, though not quite as much as the classics it was drew inspiration from. Need to go back and finish the expansion, I completed the first half, but not the second. Will play the sequel when it arrives on console (yes, I played it on console, it played better than I expected). Played through the base campaign and Resurrection. It was fairly weak but with a few highlights, enjoyed the mother daughter aspect of the expansion, I can see myself revisiting this one in the future. Picked it up on sale for quite cheap, happy with the purchase and time spent, still having a bit of fun with the multiplayer. This one surprised me, Destiny was one of the more disappointing games i'd played and I really did quite enjoy the sequel and its two expansions. I picked it up when the year one package was on for $20 and had a great time. The mission design was a huge step up and I can say it was a really enjoyable campaign. I have some issues with it, especially with its story and atmosphere (and Cayde-6) but it was a fun romp. I may even be interested in Forsaken, but i'll wait for impressions. Just finished one run of it so far, didn't finish all of the new special stages and will revisit it plenty of times in the coming years. Quite like how the new lives system of encore mode, but was hoping for a new finale though. Still my favourite Sonic game with some new additions, well worth it.
