Thread Nintendo Working on Metroid Prime 1 Re-Release (Remaster/Remake?) for Release in 2022 - Emily Rogers
There was discussion awhile ago that Prime 3 would be incredibly difficult to port to Switch, so I get not doing trilogy but I don’t get not including Echoes unless this is a huge ground up thing. Prime 1 is my GOAT so I’m not too upset about seeing just it come back out. Wasn’t the reasoning that they couldn’t get Galaxy 2 to work properly in the alloyed timeline before release? I recall people finding evidence of an attempt to get it on plus how difficult it’s specific Wii controls would be to convert. This would make a lot of sense. It’d make the most sense to announce it all up front, but I can see them doing it.

Thread With Nintendo clustering their releases in 2022, do you think the next Nintendo platform is fast approaching?
I wouldn’t pay attention to the Mario situation. The only recent Nintendo system to launch with Mario was the Wii U. He wasn’t there for the GCN, Wii, or Switch (or 3DS). That doesn’t mean there won’t be a Mario launch game for the next system, but I don’t think Nintendo really plans the series like that anymore.

Why hold back a Mario or fiddle with BOTW2’s schedule when Prime 4 is right there having not a screenshot or trailer in the world, ready to be pushed back to reveal new hardware? I’m sure Nintendo is working on a new console and a new Mario but I don’t think the scheduling of the latter can be read into the date of the former. I think the biggest evidence against it is Splatoon 3, which has no reason to exist on the Switch at all if there’s a new console right around the corner.

Yeah, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS feel like they got almost nothing when Nintendo allocated resources away for the new hotness. Unless something’s changed, the Switch still has 2-3+ years. Why put Splatoon 3 on Switch if there’s going to be a new system a year later?

I’d imagine some of them would come out in November and December. So we’d have the first set then a month later maybe Majora and Paper Mario, then in December Banjo for Christmas. If they do one Nintendo game and one third party a month they could spread it out for awhile.

I’m really curious where the N64 one goes. I feel like in past rereleases it’s the console I’ve played the least deep cuts in, even though it was my first. If they’re gonna charge extra for it and Genesis hopefully there’s a steadier stream of new releases. Also, like, are they gonna put every Mario Party on it?

Yeah this is what I want. KyoAni would be facinating. I’d love to see what they’d do. Honestly, I feel like it’d be a match made in heaven for Ghibli. They could use the shorts as a way to try and find more leadership talent, the way Disney and Pixar do with their shorts. Considering the lead singer being a Jedi isn’t really important to the plot, I don’t think there’s anything in it at all that wouldn’t fit snugly into canon anyways. The Village Bride feels similar, the timeline is a little iffy but it’s so low-key that it being canon is pretty easy. The Twins is obviously not canon, The Duel has a lot of implications were it to become canon so I’m iffy there. I’m not through with the season yet but I’m surprised how not totally out there a lot of it is. Also, where’s the merch? Disney put out shirts, it looks like, and I know there’s a novel coming. I want action figures of everyone from The Duel and an art book!

I could be wrong, but looking into it I don't think Diddy Kong Racing was ever released on the VC? Thread How good are you at replying back to people in a timely manner?
If someone I know calls me I call back ASAP. I don’t talk on the phone so if someone’s calling me it’s something important. For friends I text back as soon as I have something to say, unless I’m busy doing something and the response isn’t urgent. If it’s just an acquaintance and they’re sending me something odd I may not respond for a bit. I don’t mind people who take awhile to text back, so long as they text back eventually. Like, I have a friend that’s super busy so our conversations spread out over days as we have time to respond and that’s fine. Growing up I had one friend who’d only respond to texts if he was free (even if they were important) and would never text back if they were busy at the time, and another who would just disappear mid conversation and respond back the next week ‘maybe’ and disappear again. I liked that less.

That being said, it’s got some fantastic twists that an expanded version could ruin with explanation, so I’m not sure how easy it would be to expand. That's true, but unless they have plans for bringing the GCN game over in the near future, there's no negatives to bringing the N64 one onto NSO in the meantime. I really liked a lot of books at the start, even though I was pissed at the change at the time. Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Dial H, Demon Knights, Batman, Batgirl, and Wonder Woman I thought were great. It was REALLY clear that they didn’t know what they were doing, though. Suicide Squad and Teen Titans got rebooted multiple times, Batman/Gotham kept getting shoehorned into unrelated books, a lot of creators outside those protected seemed to be in constant states of maybe being fired (hell I think they fired then unfired Gail Simone). I did like the ‘unless we specifically contradict it, all old stories still happened’ bit.

I’m coming at it more from a true crime reader/listener/watcher angle than a crime fiction one. Obviously that’s segmenting things a bit since open/shut cases don’t make good stories. I’ve definitely heard of suspects disappearing after they killed someone (I think even Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix had one), but it just feels strange for him to reappear, refuse to talk to the police, and then disappear. That’s not something I can say I’ve heard before, especially not after someone got a lawyer and before police were able to question them.

I would like to think the circumstances of this case would make it comparatively easier to get a no-body conviction than in some other ones. He’s clearly the last person to see her alive (unless he starts talking to the cops) and seems to be actively running from the police. Usually the killers come up with a lie about where the victim is that the cops have to disprove. I vaguely remember in the ‘Cold’ podcast that the cops were finally getting close to an arrest when the murder/suicide happened. There was some trigger for it, but I don’t remember what it was.

Just look at the bombing sequence from “Barefoot Gen” as a touchstone and I think it’s doable. That in live action + recreations of all the awful pictures and videos taken after the bombing (and drawings of survivors from the Peace Museum) could give audiences nightmares, assuming Nolan wants to. After/during the big protests earlier this year, Criterion put out a statement saying they felt, basically, that they not only needed to do better but that it was important they do better. They had the power to present a ‘canon’ of films and they weren’t doing enough to include Black directors in that canon. They very quickly seemed to get together a streaming catalogue with Black directors, with movies I don’t think they were streaming before, so it’ll be shown in their disc releases going forward too.

I didn’t notice Rebuild being significantly worse other than the scene where Asuka straight up calls out how her plug suit is needlessly transparent and skin tight. Lampshading it just makes it worse since it’s clear you know it’s not ok.

I tend to avoid things, but it’s partially because at that point there’s a point where there’ll be nothing new to watch of them. Like, I love Kurosawa movies but there’s some I’ve purposefully avoided watching so I always have a couple left over. I’ve actively avoided Robin Williams movies so there’s ‘new’ films to watch of his. Etc.

Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure. One of the best DS games I ever played, put out by EA of all people. I don’t think it bomb-bombed (the director was able to make two games off it’s good reception) but it didn’t do nearly as well as it should have. I recall EA maybe shutting down the studio that made it too? CODENAME: S.T.E.A.M. This game was awesome. It sucks it got such a bad first impression (the first couple levels genuinely aren’t fun) since it’s such a fun experience. Teaming up Lucina with Queequeg, exploding penguin bombs, Abraham Lincoln fighting Cthulhu, Randolph Carter played by Doctor Venture, it was amazing. After those first few levels.

Pretty sure Westerns were popular from the birth of cinema until the 60s or 70s. So about 80 odd years give or take. I’ve done it but only to Disney parks (both Land and World). It’s pretty great. I’ll likely be doing a semi-solo trip to Japan once this whole everything going right now goes back to normal. Low-key the best thing about solo traveling is if you’re in a bad mood or having a bad day you can just… not tell anyone. The worst thing is that there are certain experiences which just feel kinda awkward doing solo. Luckily those experiences are generally the more expensive ones so you save some money avoiding them.

The behind the scenes thing at the end made it seem like they genuinely care about the lore and overall plot but: A. Are afraid of screwing it up in a way that makes fans turn on them. B. Overdo it and make it impossible to follow for people who aren't super fans. C. (Not in the BTS but my thoughts previously) Are annoyed about getting bugged about the lore all the time. The opened universe is interesting but I hope they don't go too crazy with it. The main difference between an open universe and the main universe is that there are more enemies that can challenge Rick, which is fine, but it's also a well that can be ran dry if they go to it too often.

For two straight weeks I couldn’t watch anything on it because every time I hit ‘watch’ it’d load the main menu instead. If I don’t watch at least a few minutes of the next episode of a show, when I go back to it, it’ll just replay the episode I already watched instead. Oftentimes shows buffer visually until I reset the app. It constantly crashes. And worst of all . Tubi and Crackle should not be superior apps. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. I imagine that it's possible in the episode 3 universe, with the world being saved by Captain Marvel and (probably to a lesser extent) Captain America, the population of Earth may have a universally more positive view of heroes (Loki originally only really damaged NYC, and AoU never happened). Since Thanos would eventually have to get the Time Stone from Strange regardless, if Fury can convince Captain Marvel to check in on Earth more often, she might intercept Thanos' plan earlier and end things quicker before the Snap even happens. I understand why she did it but I wish she and Loki had mulled it over a little more. If the main issue is that another Kang will come and destroy things, the third option seems to be ruling over the TVA and ‘only’ resetting timelines that get evil Kangs in them. Like, if he’s born on Earth, any timeline without Earth is fine. Realistically the universe doesn’t need ‘any’ Kangs, so you could also simplify it and just find his original ancestor, have a sacred timeline until they show up, kill them, and then let multiverse chaos come right after. As a bonus, taking a third option and solving the problem in a better way would probably humiliate Kang if you let him live long enough to see it.

I absolutely adored that finale. It was wonderful. Loki might be my favorite non-animated ongoing show in general now. I do wonder if there’s a reason for not simply pruning universes that result in an Evil Kang? Maybe it’d be too complicated but presumably you could at least open things up after he dies, or just have the TVA prune him on the standard timeline (though I guess that would prevent him from making the TVA in the first place?). Like, that seems like a less morally dubious solution. While it’s far sighted, I do like that Sylvie didn’t really destroy the world since ‘presumably’ the next big arc will be them stopping Kang once and for all, so her killing him will overall be a net positive. I don’t think he used them against the spiders or the Imperial base. I could be wrong but he’s used them less than six times total in 14 episodes, I think. They’re also fairly small, I could see them being built into his gauntlet in some way.

Come to think of it, how would Luke work narratively? Presumably they want Grogu to be part of the show, and we know Luke’s Jedi Order does not end well. Unless Luke is just the cavalry to save Mando’s squad, it’s not like he can stick around, in which case he’s no more a teacher than Ashoka. Somehow the show needs to either get Mando to find a way of teaching Grogu without a Jedi, lose Grogu without losing the audience, or add a Jedi as a main character. Luke doesn’t really fit any of those.

Boba Fett’s entire reputation is people thinking he was really cool and finally, FINALLY, after over three decades we see him in all the glory he had when we played with his action figures. Sometimes it’s ok to have a character everyone likes actually just be really good at their job, and his incompetence in ROTJ is just as blown out of proportion as his badassery. Mando himself is already the variably badass and clumsy Indiana Jones-style character who spends half his time getting the shit kicked out of him and the other half kicking the shit out of everyone else.I’m just gonna throw this out there because it’s the only reasonable thing left Mando -‘as a show could do that would make hardcore fans’ heads absolutely explode and make everyone else go “who?”: Mara effin’ Jade

If Boba and Jango’s armour is one and the same I don’t believe it’s beskar. Still REALLY strong, but the big ol dent in it is from a laser blast. If it was beskar it wouldn’t have dented like that. Also I wonder what the discussion was in regards to his pants. There’s armour down there too. Was it just too awkward to justify it being saved and reworn as well?I can’t imagine aiming for the baby was personal, and I doubt he ever expected to have Fennec shoot, it was a (genuinely intelligent) ploy to ensure they could safely talk and reason. If he hadn’t done that, Mando could have killed them both. It’s also possible that Boba has more experience with Mando cults than Bo-Katan does in modern days and might be wary of dealing with a cultist without some form of back-up.Agreed. Their discussion got interrupted, but Mando’s issue was that Boba wasn’t a Mandalorian. Boba knew he was, so he’d win the argument anyways, and made a point of showing Din his heritage at the end. As soon as Din made his point about the armour belonging to a Mandalorian, the trade was essentially done, Boba would have just needed to explain a bit. Worth noting Boba and Fennec COULD have just stolen it and left, but they chose to meet him head on.

I was just internally screaming that ENTIRE episode. It was SO good. I loved all of it. I wonder how big the rescue team-up will be. Cara, Greef, Boba, and Fennec seem like givens. Bo-Katan would be great. Those two X-Wing pilots could pop back too. Maybe Ashoka but I’m not sure if they’d bring her back already or not. Ashoka coming along would kind of make them immediately over-powered but it would be even more amazing. Fish Lady and the Tatoinne repairer lady would probably ‘like’ to help but they’re kind of non-action. I wonder if some Tuskens or Cobb Vance (or those villagers from the Seven Samurai episode) would wanna come... as others have pointed out Boba probably still has some connections. I believe he’s supposed to be close to Bossk.

Presumably the Empire can’t have control of him at any point, so I imagine he was secreted out by a Jedi or temple staff and hidden for a time. Bad Batch could either be sent to reclaim him or to protect him never knowing what he is.

Even just it being one long quest with complications instead of a very "princess in another castle" story would do wonders for my itty bit of frustration with the show. Admittedly this CAN be done well, because Samurai Jack did it every single episode, so maybe it'd just require the episodes themselves to stand out more (which 1, 3, and 5 did, admittedly, 2 and 4 were just kind of standard).I think the problem with Mando and MOTW episodes is that the season is REALLY short so the MOTWs need to be spectacular to be worth the time (which I'd say they 'mostly' are this season? I think things might be better in retrospect once it's over).

1. Maybe I missed something in your argument, but it’s entirely likely that people know who Rebel hero Luke Skywalker is but do not know Rebel Hero Luke Skywalker is a Jedi unless they’ve worked with or around him. Blowing up the Death Star isn’t an inherently Jedi thing, and while he uses a lightsaber he’s not running into battle with it like they did in the Clone Wars. 2. Between Mando and TFA I believe is when Luke starts his training school and Leia’s relation to Vader is discovered galaxy-wide, so not only is it more likely people 25 years out know more than Mando does, that’s more time for the legend to expand. 3. As for the temple, someone else noted it’s a win win for Ashoka. Either there are other Jedi out there and the Force will guide the right one, or it won’t and Grogu won’t grow up with training and will be far less dangerous.

This is the sorta thing comics and books have actually done pretty regularly but nothing animated or live action has touched. Not sure why there’s a discrepancy there. TV/Film don’t get nearly as creative with the Force/sabers as anything else.Obviously not intended in ESB, but I do wonder if there’s enough meat to the bone of Yoda so believing in the Chosen One prophecy that he literally never considered someone like Ezra or Grogu as a potential saviour.I think that sound is why I haven’t seen anyone dislike the name yet online. I’m not expecting Luke BUT supposedly he did sign away his likeness for live action recently, so we could see him. I guess Mando must have the budget for it, considering everything else they can afford? If she really did work for Thrawn, as a connoisseur of rare art, it’d make sense he got it and gave it to her. Obviously that doesn’t say where he got it or what life it had before then.I’m not sure Thrawn will come into play. Unless he’s somehow Gideon’s master (which feels unlikely considering Rebels though I guess Ashoka looking for him where he is leaves that up for debate) I imagine Filoni would want to keep a Thrawn sidelined until the Rebels follow up the series finale implied. Resolving it in Mando would also mean having to cast Sabine, Ezra, and maybe even Hera in live action.I loved how overt the look was, tying it back to the samurai movies that inspired SW to begin with. The exterior dead forest reminded me of a lot of samurai films too, like Throne of Blood.

That episode was fantastic. I absolutely adore the Japanese aesthetic they went whole hog on for it.Jedi is a code and an ethos and whatnot. She never rejoined the Jedi, and she doesn’t consider herself bound by any of their laws or rules. She’s not a Jedi, but no one besides her alive right now is going to care about that difference, so why bother insisting on it. It’s not like anyone else alive (including Luke, Ezra, etc) would know the difference anyways. The Force itself is innate but how to use it is not. Just like any talent it needs upkeep or it will fade.Ashoka never knew Padme was pregnant and on the off chance she did the fact he had children was covered up (AS WAS the fact Anakin was now Vader). She would have had to make the connection that the Like Skywalker who blew up the Death Star was related to Anakin, which in a galaxy of trillions is a big leap since Luke being a Jedi isn’t regarded as a big deal by the Rebels anyways. Neither Yoda nor Obi told Luke to seek her out (because she didn’t exist yet, but in universe likely because they either didn’t know she was alive or thought her situation was far more dangerous). Plus Rebels implies she’s stuck on Malachor for awhile after being saved.

Saving the citizens over getting information is a normal “not being an asshole” thing. It has nothing to do with a code. Superman and Batman do it all the time. She was trained as a Jedi so she can still teach Grogu how to use the Force, regardless of whether she considers herself a Jedi or not. If I recall Luke taught Rey while insisting he was no longer a Jedi. Feeling the Force and using the Force are very different, which is why Jedi hey trained to begin with. If he never goes beyond what he can do now, it’s going to fade through disuse.

I think the issue of filler v arc this season is that there’s SO MUCH going on in the background it’s hard to really tell what’s just lore versus what’s actually part of the main arc. Like, I have no idea how Boba will fit into things, or if the long term game is going to be teaming up with Ashoka/Bo to fight Gideon and retake Mandalore. Hopefully when the season is over it’ll be a great rewatch to see all the threads knowing how they connect. We’ve gotten two amazing episodes so far this season (1 and 3) and two fine ones (2 and 4) so I’m very excited for the rest of it, but am a little worried they’re biting off more than they can chew. I think it was just due to the fact there were action and chase scenes that the stakes against Stormtroopers could only last so long. Clone Wars got around it by having a larger cast and bigger army so a couple good guys could bite it too to beef up the drama. It was still pretty darn fun though.

Star Wars isn’t remotely afraid of dark humour, but the show didn’t do a great job making it clear what the intended reaction was. For whatever reason I don't really recall seeing any Sabine rumors. Timeline-wise it'd make sense for her and Ashoka to be together but it's also sort of weird since they'd essentially have to place an episode of Mando into the timeline of a Rebels sequel series that may or may not exist. Unless Mando showing Ashoka Baby Yoda actually happens before the final scene of Rebels... I comparatively figured Bo-Katan is a shoo-in, unless that report of Katie Sackhoff being cast wasn't true.I'm curious about how Fett plays into all this too. I guess he could stalk down Mando over the series and either help him out or combat him from the sidelines. There's a lot we don't know, since he also saved the bounty hunter last season and (to me) seemed to have taken up an entirely Tusken weapon set. He's had plenty of time to escape Tatoinne if he wanted to. From a storytelling standpoint, it feels more economical if Fett and Mando actually met this episode, since it looks like the next one takes place on another planet entirely (so either Fett has to suddenly decide to leave Tatoinne or we have to go back there). Part of me wonders if we're not actually going to see more of him until S3.

His best case scenario is somehow getting a meeting with Luke or Leia directly, but it’s worth noting they’ve got no clue where Yoda came from so it’s not exactly what he was sent to do. I don’t think we know what’s happened to Mandalore? Could be the people left en mass after the empire took over or they were so thoroughly enslaved that only the groups that lived off world could continue the traditions. Also worth noting he was saved by people apparently in Death Watch, so it’s possible he’d either not be welcomed or they kept certain truths from him.

Like, unless the exact college/state/town etc is incredibly relevant there's no reason for it to be accurate to real life if you want to hide the fact you're basing it on a real person. Unless the way the people met is relevant it doesn't need to be the same. It's easier to get away with it without telling anyone if it's genre fiction, but if it's just a general drama story you really have to be careful to make sure you're not borrowing more than you need to.

Thread Disney's Encanto - Teaser Trailer
I'd at least like to see traditional villains come back . Like, most of the plots we've had in WDAS films recently don't really need them, but I still miss them. Not every film needs an animal sidekick and not every film needs a villain but I'd like them to at least be in the equation whenever a story is getting broken. It's kind of bizarre because King Candy was and was the last truly traditional villain (didn't have a song and was a bit of a twist but the twist was that he was more evil than we realized, not that he was evil in general. He even had a Jafar/Maleficent style final form!). It's not like they dropped traditional villains because they had one that bombed. They ended it on a high note.

The difference is in my example there’s an intent the writer has not finished telling yet that the story has been written to build up to. This is true in a lot of cases but if an author is writing a series or a creator is overseeing a ‘universe’ a fan’s creations is less valid as it’s not part of the narrative of the original creator. That doesn’t mean it’s bad or anything, but if Author A is writing a mystery trilogy and Fan A writes a fan fic before it’s finished that gets the solution to the mystery wrong, the later is less valid than the former.

Yeah it’s this. DC did the same thing in comics during New52 and Star Wars has done the same thing both on the old EU and modern canon. I don’t think, by their nature, there’s much in the Netflix/ABC shows that contradict the movies, so they get to be quasi-canon until Marvel decides to recast the characters, and even then unless they do something specifically out of whack with the shows they’re still technically fine insofar as canon goes.

I’m sure those will sell better than Dread BUT it leaves Dread alone as the game for the traditional Mario/Zelda crowd. Plus good word of mouth and hype could push it into the wish lists of kids, especially since it’s ‘adult’ without having anything parents would likely object to. Do you have recommendations because I am down to change my opinion on the matter. I have tried them with cream cheese and liked it but I don’t really count that.My point is waffles are tasty. Not being able to leave a place until you eat enough waffles is like being stuck in a place until you eat enough chicken nuggets, or bacon, or ice cream, or those little donuts that are kept by the Twinkies in supermarkets. It seems less like punishment and more like an excuse to eat tasty food. As for cheese, cheese is good, but I haven’t had it paired well with waffles before. You should now be able to finish eating enough waffles to go home in only 3-5 waffles. And it only took 7ish hours. I am very bad at math but very good at eating waffles so hopefully that balances it out.

Thread Luca (2021, Pixar) | Review Thread (91% Certified Fresh)
I'm more interested in the animation and art design (that looks INCREDIBLE) than the story, which seems ho hum. 'Middle of the road Pixar' is kind of what I was anticipating, which is fine because that's still 'pretty' good. Every Pixar movie since Coco has been 'pretty' good (Coco being amazing) with one thing or another that distracted me (Incredibles 2 was good but a rehash, Toy Story 4 was good but was too short and had a bizarre climax, Onward's first half was too slight, and Soul had that unnecessary body switch plot). I'm sure Luca will be good but the merman twist doesn't seem super interesting.

Depending on how the story of Dread works out there might not really be a reasonable spot for a Prime reference, but I kind of assume that if there we'll get one. Especially if it goes into heavier Federation stuff, they might reuse designs from Prime 2, 3, and Federation Force.

My point is, one health tank isn’t a lot. You’re getting more health in the easiest part of the game, where you already get an easy health boost early on. If you’re struggling you’re going to struggle whether you have two health tanks or three. If you’re not struggling you won’t notice the difference. And shortly thereafter you’ll discover more and more and it’ll become more and more insignificant.

In the Treehouse demo they showed (which is presumably fairly early on the game) there’s already at least one health tank and missile tank available in the first ten minutes of the game. That’s not taking into consideration any that might be hidden. Unless the game is way harder than any prior Metroid that should be more than enough for the opening hour of the game. Especially this one, that has the melee counter.

90% of the time it's just a neat little cosmetic thing or bonus item for owning a figure of a character you really like. The biggest exception is Codename STEAM which locked four playable Fire Emblem characters behind their Amiibo (which were impossible to get at the time but less so later on). New Horizons locked Sanrio content behind Amiibo, and I believe there was content locked in New Leaf too. BOTW had Wolf Link locked behind an Amiibo too but I 'believe' those are the three released games with the biggest content locks behind them.

I would always recommend people start with “Blink” and then move onto “Eleventh Hour.” Matt Smith’s run, especially early on, felt the most consistently great (of his first two seasons there’s maybe ‘one’ episode I dislike). Eccelston and Tennant are somewhat more sporadic with episode quality so if you wanna just jump in and get your groove on starting with the 11th Doctor is the most painless and fun. If you balance out the tech and focus on the other stuff, I always felt it would come down to the Empire using a lot of fighters versus the Federation focusing on capital ships + having transporters. I always figured the Federation could take on a Star Destroyer no problem, Federation ships always seemed faster than SW capital ships, but having to go up against tons of Ties would quickly overwhelm a Federation ship. I don’t think Starkiller Base or the Death Star are super dangerous to the Federation, they have way better comms and creativity than the Empire does. One planet would get blown up and they’d have a one use plan to create a mini black hole in the center of the Death Star (and just ponder how many lives they were taking themselves).

Thread Maybe ghosts are real but since gravity doesn't affect them they are now lost in space
This idea supposes a lot of things about ghosts that we just don’t have the scientific data for. Ghosts are presumably not physical beings, but some sort of mental aura our bodies create that is released upon death (usually during trauma). They’re basically our mind removed from our body, projecting an image of itself out to the world (it’s gotta be a mental image of the self because otherwise why aren’t all ghosts naked?). Ghosts are also often linked to specific locations, so it’s possible they’re not tethered by gravity but by locations on the earth. They move in space in proximity to these beacon locations they lived in while alive. It’s why you never see, like, Abe Lincoln’s ghost in Norway. If ghosts were a universal phenomena that happens to everyone and ghosts are untethered from gravity then it’d be really obvious they’re real since the ghosts of everyone who died on the front of the planet would move through the earth and emerge underground on the back of the planet as it moved in its orbit around the sun. The earth would then have a comet like tail of ghosts that would be pretty obvious to everyone, and if the earth ever went back into the same exact spot as a prior rotation all those ghosts would phase through the atmosphere and crust again.

Part of me wonders if this will be the first one to go bust. All it truly seems to have going for it is library content it’s ripping from other providers AND is constantly marathoned on cable/old enough many have it on dvd. None of its originals seem like they have a great hook either. Compare that to Disney+ (previously unavailable legacy content, new Marvel, new Star Wars, dozens of beloved films streaming all in one place for the first time), HBO NOW (In my opinion WB’s much better backlog, HBO’s much better branding and originals, Turner’s library), CBS Access (Star Trek and Star Trek and more Star Trek), Netflix (everyone’s seeming main source that’s been building exclusive originals for years) and Peacock just doesn’t seem interesting. I’d be a little surprised if it catches on with anyone who isn’t just in it for comfort tv marathons. EDIT: Didn’t realize Comcast owners get it for free. That’s... I don’t know. Same. I was like “Oh Cyril is here?” and then Bernie woopsie-daisied a crit on him and he was gone forever. There seems like there must be alternate dialogues for whether you kill students or not. I was also surprised to see some characters have MULTIPLE battle dialogues if they fight their old friends. Ingrid had one that was actually a whole (angry) mini-support.

See, I kept sacrificing slots from my original team to make room for new recruits. Caspar lasted like a month or two, then Ferdinand was dropped, then Hubert, then Lindhart, and then I added Mercedes, Ingrid, Lysithea, and Marianne. And then I kept recruiting and made a b-team for auxiliary battles so my main squad doesn’t get over levelled.

There are a few magical weapon ones which do considerably more damage than a regular attack for certain characters.I mean, they’re still around in the monastery, with unique dialogue post-skip. Some even have unique supports and most have unique paralouges you can pretty much only get via recruitment. The only thing they miss out on is the post-battle group chats, which they wouldn’t be in anyways had you not recruited them.Dorothea is a jack of all classes for me and it’s wonderful. I’m getting the sense her and Edelgard might statistically be the most loved characters in the game.

You can still recruit her! You don’t have to use her. You just gotta save her life.Ingrid not being bi is the worst thing in this game. This is a joke but I wanted her and Dorothea together as soon as they had their C support, and I also don’t want to play a whole route as male Byleth just to romance her either. If it’s your first FE game it’s not unusual to lose people early on, but use Divine Pulse to save them after (or restart the level after you lose them) if you are playing with permadeath. As you play you’ll learn who can take hits and who can’t. For instance, I know from past battles that my Dorothea can usually take a hit (especially versus a mage) so I can play her more aggressively than I can Lyth, who will get one shotted by a strong foe. Bernie is a great dodger on my team, and Mercedes’ specials let her survive without needing support, so if I need to I know I can leave them in the open. Marianne I know can take a weak hit, but needs someone in range to heal if she does, same with Sylvain. Meanwhile Edelgard, Petra, and Byleth are strong enough to be on the front lines without worry. As you play you’ll learn your characters’ strengths and weaknesses and strategies accordingly.

I think the most common way people play the game is to avoid any character death at all. Obviously, if you’re not playing with permadeath it’s less of an issue, but it’s totally possible to get through every map with no one being lost. The trick is generally to plop your ‘tanks’ on the edge of the enemy danger tiles to bring out your foe and then pick them off with your squishier ranged units. As you play you’ll learn who can and cannot take hits and adjust your formations and teams accordingly.

I recruited pretty much every mage in the game and (having not started with her) haven't found a niche for her. I wanted to train her into a fortress knight since I didn't have one, but it's slow goings. I like her as a character, so hopefully she'll get more play in another route for me. She just isn't as strong as Lyth/Dorothea/Mercedes (and I turned Marianne into a knight). Also, maybe it's just me, but Mercedes is stupid good on a level where there's a noticeable difficulty jump anytime I don't bring her onto a mission.

Not that I'd ever let someone die, but I think it'd be an interesting addition if they added post-death Support convos. If a character had a high support with someone else, you'd see them grieving in some way or another if the other character died. They might even lose the ability to gain support points for a month after. I'm curious what the worst possible run of the game would be in general, since it seems like the cinematics are designed so that characters can be easily removed if they die, meaning there theoretically is a version of the game where the group conversations are just the leader and Byleth speaking to no one. Unless I'm totally wrong about how it all works.I mainly just use it to get Support points and farm. It is nice seeing how every character gets unique dialogue after each mission, though. Unlike pre-skip they actually had to write 3-4 completely different scripts for every recruit-able character for those scenes, which is pretty impressive.

So... what exactly crests?I rather like that, it makes the supports more important. There's a lore bomb that I just got 55 hours into the game via an obscure-ish A support that I don't think I've seen acknowledged anywhere else, that's really cool and sorta confirms certain things about what two characters went through.

My only real critique of episode 3 was they did the not unusual ‘good ghosts/bad ghosts’ thing but didn’t dwell on it enough. I’d have preferred more of an acknowledgement that all but one ghost was benevolent before the reveals, it felt a little muddied otherwise (partially due to the episode dealing with more than the ghosts, admittedly). Don’t really understand anyone’s complaints about characterisation of all things with the show. I think it’s main issue is HBO presenting it as a more serialised thing than it is, so our thoughts on pacing is at odds with reality.

I definitely had an unrealistic idea about how friendships worked growing up, probably based on TV (where else would I get the idea?). I was very surprised when my friends made new friends when away in college and didn’t have much interest in the increasingly difficulty it took to stay in contact with me. I will note that, in terms of adult friendships, in this age of Zoom and texting and online gaming and email and everything else, it feels like it should be REALLY hard to lose a strong friendship if both parties want it to continue. Even way back when I was in college my old friendships died because while I was willing to alter my schedule and make time for old friends, they often weren’t willing to do the same for me. If someone moves away and both parties want that friendship to continue, there’s plenty of ways to do so, it just sucks when it’s one-sided.

They're making money hand over fist with Switch, doesn't really seem like they'd need to put out Prime Trilogy early. My issue with it was mostly that it was very clear what its boundaries were and the writers never really seemed to write around them. Lots of dull planets and barren battle stations and none of the heroes can die so eventually you just feel bad for all the poor stormtroopers getting killed by a bunch of people standing in the middle of a room with no cover. Tonal issues everywhere too. Clone Wars maybe had worse episodes here and there but they tended to be episodes that went for something crazy and didn’t pull it off, whereas Rebels would trip over itself screwing up the tone/action in a very basic plot. But dear lord that last season was good, and everything with Thrawn was pretty great too. Thread With Admiral Thrawn in the new Star Wars canon, do you want to see any other old Legends characters re-purposed into the Disney canon?
Mara Jade to be coming eventually. She’s the highest profile EU character outside of KOTOR not to make it back yet. I personally really want to see Jorus C’Boath come back. He always seemed like a really fun villain to me, and there’s plenty of ways to reintegrate him. Talon Karrde is so easy to add back in that I imagine they’re just ensuring they don’t waste him.

Yes it sure did! To both points, I mean. There’s a shot where they reused jungle footage from an older film and there’s straight up pteranodons in it flying around. No one ever acknowledges it, and it’s the sorta thing you’d only notice if someone pointed it out. I forget if Welles put it in as a gag or just hoped no one would notice.

Thread How Have You Felt About Marvel Studio's Transition to TV Seires So Far? ( Wandavison / Falcon and Winter Solider Spoilers)
I really enjoyed both but think they needed one more once over before they started filming. WandaVision works really well but it doesn’t quite thread the needle for the ending, made harder by the main plot being something that is pretty obvious what’s going on with. It does really well but I think it could be better. Falcon is really inconsistent. It kind of forgets about Bucky at the end, misuses Walker in the finale, and the Flagsmashers are too sympathetic to work as an arc villain. They needed to cut down on the fat and focus ‘just’ on Sam/Bucky. Throwing everyone else in there just complicated things. The emotional conflict is all about Walker, not the Flagsmashers. They did mostly feel movie quality every week, and that was really nice, and didn’t overstay their welcome like the Netflix seasons tended to.

You said 2001 is the only movie with lasting influence on modern filmmaking and I listed a bunch of movies that have a lasting influence on modern filmmaking. I'm not sure where Paddington fits in. Outside of my joke about the abundance of 'CGI Cartoon Character with live actors' films, which isn't something inspired by 2001. As for 2001 vs Citizen Kane in terms of overall influence, the Citizen Kane influence is primarily in the way the film was created and shot. It's also VERY effects heavy in a way I don't think people then or now truly realize. There's dinosaurs in Citizen Kane.

If the KOTOR remake is a big deal or sold physically I imagine they'd want to pop a special banner on it so people don't get it confused (either with new canon or High Republic). Of course, maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like very little of KOTOR has been undone by modern canon (considering how old the story is). It's possible they could just make it canon with a few tweaks and not need a special label for it. The initial intention of the show was that it would be an anthology. Later seasons settle in on main characters so you’ll usually have Anakin, Yoda, Ashoka, Obi-Wan, R2/3P0, Maul, Ventress, Padme, Rex, or Jar Jar as the lead in a story. To make things easier for everyone, later seasons also take place (predominantly) in chronological order.

Like, you can just have fun talking about all the good stuff from the first 6-7 years + the occasionally good episodes later and never have to bring up the bad stuff. They actually did this on Picard (maybe I missed if someone else already mentioned it). It was a fun twist but under-utilised in the show. The problem with over reliance on Holo-Crew is that you can likely shut them off like any other subsystem, so over reliance on them means your foe can focus their effort on shutting down the main holodeck systems instead of actually fighting your army. Although your army could now be velociraptors with phasers for faces and bazookas for tails.

I think the best thing about them is they're so popular that they're the ONLY form of merch a ton of characters get, like, ever. Rock Candy and Mystery Mini style Funkos look better than POPs, though. It's kind of weird because Rock Candy weren't that much more expensive and look way less stylized, I wish they'd wound up being the runaway success POPs are.

Thread Batman vs Superman writer's inteview tells us all thats wrong with DCEU
Superman is an impervious sentient being with x-ray vision and super hearing, I don't really understand how drone strike metaphors actually work with him unless you remove everything likeable about the character. He's also not to kill anyone. He doesn't to kill anyone. He could zoom in, find the target, then fly them away to jail without injuring anyone. The optics you can jump on is 'Superman corrupted by the reality of America' where maybe the people he's grabbing for the government aren't actually terrorists, or maybe the people giving him the intel are doing far worse and how dare he not deal with them instead.

I never finished the last seasons of Chuck or Futurama (in this instance it was due to not wanting them to be over). I also never watched the bonus season of Heroes despite watching the rest of the show, or the final season of X-Files (I got behind then heard about the ending...). And I think I still haven’t seen the final season of Buffy either? And I stopped watching American Dad when it moved to TBS but that one I’ll get back to eventually. Thread Deadline: 'Indiana Jones 5’: Phoebe Waller-Bridge Lands Female Lead In Next Installment Opposite Harrison Ford
She’s great so this is good news. I REALLY hope this movie can end the franchise on a high note. I hope Lucasfilm has a solid idea of what they want to do with Indy afterwards, though. And by that I mean I want a cartoon sequel of Young Indiana Jones that’s a bunch of anthology episodes of him fighting Nazis in the 40s. Or live action in the same period but only if he’s played by Chris Pine. Chris Pine is the only recast for Indy I’ll accept. (Totally fine with him also having had a daughter to take up the mantle but I think the stories are more fun set in 1910-1950, they lose some of the appeal when they get more modern (just like how Batman is best set in 1940s-1980s). So I’d want the daughter spin offs to be set between Last Crusade and not long after Crystal Skull). Is Harrison Ford just Ron Swanson?

Thread If comic book can have good live action movies, why not games?
The problem is usually the people making the movie either don’t care about the game or care about it too much and throw too much in there. There’s no reason, say, a Star Fox or Metroid movie would run into trouble if someone just took them at seriously and made decent action adventure/sci fi horror films out of them. Star Fox wouldn’t really even need to be altered at all, it’s already a pretty standard space fantasy series. Metroid would need to give Samus someone to talk to, but otherwise just drop her on an alien planet and watch her go to town on the Space Pirates using it as a base. If you’re willing to cut a lot out, Persona 5 is a pretty straightforward adaptation too for a movie trilogy. First film is Kamoshida, second film deals with Makota and Futaba, then the final film is the finale of the game.

I feel like if it's something that can be stumbled on by accident and then trivialize the game it should absolutely be nerfed. Like, if I recall correctly, there was one weapon in Cuphead that nearly trivialized the game. And it was not a hard to get or hard to use weapon either, so if you stumbled upon using it now suddenly this game built around difficulty and learning loses a lot of what makes it special. I'm pro-developer choice in other instances too, but I've also been in situations where I've been bummed something I had fun with got taken out, so I can understand the frustration.

When I went away to college and only worked every other weekend they had to do something special for me because there was actually an alert system built into the whatever scheduling tool they used that would warn corporate they had employees on staff that weren't being given hours. The candy isn’t as good as other holidays and most things shut down for it, and it seems to be a different day every year, so I always wind up making plans for that day only to realise I can’t do anything because everything is closed. No one at work truly realised Sunday was Easter until yesterday and now we have to scramble to get an entire day’s work crammed into Friday and Saturday. At least it’s a day off, I guess. We will DM you for more information' and then DM them asking for the store location and time purchased and leave it be. It's baffling why they just didn't do that.I don't work in food retail but we still toss anything that's damaged beyond repair or unlikely to sell without a steep discount after being returned (I've thrown away a LOT of used food containers and bento boxes...). It's surprising to me that it's worth anyone's time to fix that sort of thing up considering the possible issues later on if its contaminated.

Nintendo makes the most sense but (maybe less recently?) Sonic tends to have a secondary release on Nintendo with the main version on MS/PS (assuming Nintendo gets a port at all). I think it depends on what kind of game it is. If it’s a retro throwback or a general game, it’d be Nintendo. If they’re marketing it as the first next gen Sonic then obviously it’d go to one of the others (my gut says MS but I can’t back that up with a reason).

So it’ll be ‘back in my day you have to subscribe to ten different services!’ and they’ll be like ‘ while they watch DisneyMAXflix. Console wars are meh. I think it’s less her being a snob and more her only surviving the last revolution because the castle inhabitants were magical creatures. They’re cured by time she marries so she has no unique defence, same as Cinderella.Merida would 100% survive, I don’t think there’s any other option for her at least.Yeah, the ‘popular enough to market but not so popular they’re their own franchise’ is the big one. Anna and Elsa would have been inducted but they sell gang busters with their own branding. I think Moana was delayed a bit because of how well her merch sold too. I feel like Nala would qualify but being a lion it’d be hard to include her in any of the toylines.

Elsa could destroy the revolution single handily. Anna spends most of her free time with the people. I figure she’s safe. She was also willing to destroy her whole kingdom to save the proletariat already, she’d bring about democracy if asked nicely. Raya/Mulan/Rapunzel could escape or fight their way out if it got bad enough. Snow would get saved by the dwarves, Jasmine would get saved by Genie/Aladdin/Carpet, Aurora has the three fairies to save her. I feel like Moana would refuse to escape. Tiana is a restaurant owner and business women, she’s far from a high target. Belle and Cinderella are kinda doomed.

I actually like the Batman stuff outside of when he's, you know, branding people with his symbol and whatnot. The Superman and Luthor stuff is miserable, though. I thought the core conflict was actually more reasonable that Civil War, but that Civil War was a much better film. Like Batman's reason for disliking Superman feels reasonable but Superman is so utterly mishandled that it never really works. Fair, but this sort of thing has existed in some popular form since at least the Victorian Age, it's only a current trend insofar as podcasts have an incredibly low barrier for entry (you can literally catch up on them just driving to work, for free) so with a genre as popular as this they've become more prevalent. I have noticed a genuine push from newer-ish podcasts to specifically be about closing old cases. "Murder Squad" just helped solve one and it's only been around for like six months?

Metroid generally seem to hit the same notes over and over again (with the outliers 'mostly' being in the Prime series). It's kinda like Raiders of the Lost Arc versus Last Crusade. Unwound Future also made me sob so we’re in that together. It’s insane a game with that utterly ridiculous a twist and overall plot line could still still pull off that emotional gut punch. Mega Man Classic seems like a good pick. Some entries are more popular than others but I’ve never been aware of a true black sheep in the line-up. Professor Layton ‘might’ qualify too. Games 2-6 are all various degrees of ‘not as good as Curious Village’ but I don’t recall any of them being singled out. The black sheep of mainline Pokemon alters constantly as people who grew up with each entry get older. I’d say it’s Ruby/Sapphire because there’s too much water but nowadays that’ll get me flayed alive. So it’s debatable if there really is a black sheep at all.

Thread Will MCU Magneto keep the Holocaust back story?
I'm sure they could find an excuse for him to still be alive but have that backstory. We already have Hydra experimentations in canon, plus he could come from a different part of the multiverse/timeline. It really depends on how they want to integrate the X-men cast into the MCU. What they should really think about is creating a Captain America situation for him that's future-proof. Captain America has a similar situation but, if Wikipedia is correct, they created the 'frozen in ice after WW2' thing about twenty years later, and now that's an iconic part of his character. If they find a way to future proof Magneto like that, they can then fix this problem into the future for any other adaptations or alternate universes. Also I am 100% on board for Magneto-as-the-hero movies.
