Thread Was it too late for the Jedi once the Clones were made?
The Jedi probably could have won even with Order 66 IF they knew it was coming and Palps was in control. The problem was that it was a surprise. If they got everyone in the field out and had the temple evacuated in secret, they could have taken out Palps and then found a way to heal the clones. It would have been super mega hard mode, but it’s possible.

I don’t think I’ve ever ordered chain pizza even in America on purpose, so I’m not surprised. Even where I live there’s literally two independent pizza places within walking distance of my house.

Thread Which director’s weakest film is better than any other director’s weakest film?
Kurosawa was going to be my pick but then I remembered he apparently hated Shanshiro Sugata 2, and the first one already isn’t supposed to be that great. Looking at my favorites, anyone who would qualify I haven’t seen their entire filmography yet so I can’t speak to it (Rian Johnson) or they only have two films so far (Jennifer Kent). I will add on Satoshi Kon counts, though the circumstances for it are a bit depressing due to him dying so young.

Thread Watchmen 2009. Liked it?
I purposefully watched it before reading the comic and liked it a lot, though the comic is obviously much better. I remember my big criticism of it was that the mystery element was pretty poorly done, and there’s a lot less depth to it so it makes the story seem smaller. The mystery has so much going into it in the comic that it’s really fun seeing it all come together, but the clues were stupid obvious in the film.

In terms of new entries, I feel like it’d be really freaking hard for anyone to take a new Terminator anything seriously, with how badly the last few movies have been perceived. You could easily make a throwback Alien movie without the prequel junk and have a hit, Predator seems fine, and Robocop… uh… I’m sure they could reboot it again in a decade and it might have a chance.

Thread 30+ crowd, do you find yourself opting out of buying games you are otherwise interested in because they are difficult or too long?
I’ve definitely bowed out of buying time sink games if I knew I wasn’t going to have time for them. Like, I only beat one storyline in Fire Emblem Three Houses, there’s a good 70-150 hours left in that game alone I want to get to, plus tons of shorter ones on Steam. And I’m still playing Three Hopes. I’ll grab the big ones for me at launch (Zelda, FE… uhhh… Pokémon) but I’ll either skip entirely or super wait on others. I want Elden Ring but I’m in no rush, it’s not going anywhere. I kinda do the same thing with movies/TV: I watch considerably less TV now than I used to, since that same time an be used for a shit ton of movies.

The tablet toss up the stairs and then the camera jumping (?) out the window to keep following the action did it for me. I feel like this is something that’s going to massively bite them in the ass later. Animation is one of the few things WB really had going for it. They’re making their services and pipeline less appealing while actively making their main competition outside Netflix look like a better option (Disney with, you know, their bread and butter, and Paramount with Nickelodeon). I think Tiny Toons still had Spielberg as a producer? Hopefully that keeps it safe. Animaniacs being a Hulu thing might save it too.

Thread Rumor: Book of Boba Fett Season 2 Seemingly Confirmed Poster Leak
I'm hopeful this is true. It could make sense the other shows aren't on it because their dates are less firm. Everything else on there has either come out with one season or is about to. Also, as far as we know, Fett is already further along in production but ties into Mando in a way they don't want to spoil this early. I really liked the first season, I just wish it had a clearer throughline. It was a bit all over the place, if S2 is all about Boba protecting his people or expanding out to be a better leader of Bounty Hunters, I'll be pumped. S1 not really stabilizing on his end goals (and being wonky with how small his forces were versus his foes) made it seem a bit mashed together. I want this and

I think this is hiding the fact that Discovery has so little in comparison that the only franchise they could think of besides this (which is popular) is Shark Week. Shark Week is popular too, but it’s literally just a programming block. Like, literally any other network could go make shark week right now with some B-Roll and narration. Meanwhile they don’t even list Scooby Doo/Hannah Barbara or Adult Swim/Rick and Morty on the WB front.

I guess I'm saying that if Batgirl wasn't intended for theaters it might not look good in them (according to their logic), and it's budget may not be recouped, but they could have thrown Scoob to theaters instead of MAX and broken even. Scoob getting cancelled absolutely baffles me. I can get (though hate) that Batgirl was in a weird spot where they didn't want to spend more to get it finished, but if Scoob was nearly done how the hell wouldn't it have made it's budget back for $40-80 mil? Like, it's a kids movie with an iconic franchise character, it would have made decent money worldwide + toys and later TV ad sales. Peacemaker is probably safe thanks to Gunn, I fear for Harley Quinn, though.

It’s not going to be a good look for the merger when literally every story is negative. Like, Chapek sucks over at Disney, but early on he mostly kept his toes out of SW/MCU/WDAS so even while he was destroying the parks there was at least something to hang your hat on. Absolutely this, and try to keep on top of it's charge. Yeah, this was one of the biggest lessons I had the second time I traveled abroad. Offline maps and stuff are great, but it's nice to have a back up. I'd also, in both instances, like to toss out strategic charging. I feel like this could only backfire. HBO MAX, after some quick Googling, seems like it has 3x the subscriber base? I get the sense they’re prepping Filoni for that sorta role in the future. He has his hand in a bunch of stuff, they’re actively getting him into live action directing, they basically just gave him a budget to do Tales because he wanted one, etc. The problem is, as you said, they won’t let him into the movie side of things for whatever reason. The cartoons and comics rarely seemed to have a problem being cohesive with it. I think the problem is Snyder wanted a tone that actively made it hard for a lot of characters to work and… honestly I’m not sure what Johns accomplished in the role?

Land Before Time is crazy but makes sense, since I figured parents just bought the new one for their kids each year. And if kids get into there’s a ton more in the back catalogue. Scorpion King is the most baffling to me, as it’s the spin off of a reboot that didn’t seem particularly popular to begin with (Scorpion King the movie didn’t seem popular, the Mummy reboot was)? Maybe he was trapped in a mindstorm or an evil book or something. Disney does still do brand games though, they just outsource them. There’s three different gacha auto-battle games with Disney characters out there, plus that free to play racer coming soon. I think it’d be really cool if they let WB use some of their characters, but I feel like someone at Disney during the process would be like “why aren’t we just licensing out our own version of this?” They may also be reticent to allow it for brand integrity reasons. Sora going to different dimensions may as well be canon, but in all three gacha games there’s different justifications for the crossover specifying it’s not really the ‘real’ version of the characters, and WB doesn’t seem to have that problem. And the MCU shows have a ton happen early on too, though sometimes lose focus in the middle. None of them operate like normal tv, though, I suppose. It’s possible to remake these things and have them actually be good, but other than the Lion King musical and Cinderella I’m not sure any have justified their existence to me outside of a quest for cash. Actually people saying that about anything where it’s objectively not true is a quick way to get me to lose interest in hearing them speak again. It’s really weird seeing lists and arguments about the worst game/movie/tv shows and it’s all franchise fare when stuff like Big Rigs and Foodfight exist.

I wouldn’t mind OG Luigi Mansion style games, where it’s all about replaying it. Or something like OG Pikmin or Yoshi Story that are built somewhat similarly. I don’t really think it’s worth it for a studio to go full AAA on something that short, though. You can usually use the citations at the bottom to double check anything important. There’s times where I haven’t used things because it lacks citation or seemed too simple, and I couldn’t corroborate the fact elsewhere online. It’s definitely not worth trusting blind with more obscure/niche stuff, though. Huh. My NHK stream just moved to a prerecorded documentary about the Andes. How far in advance do political rallies normally get announced? Seems odd to me that the shooter just happened to be in the same city with a homemade shotgun if it's a short notice thing. Not odd in a conspiracy theory way, but in a 'Franz Ferdinand got shot because his originally failed assassin stopped for sandwiches' way. My understanding is the longer from the war it's been, the less they talk about it at all. It's crazy, because a lot of Japanese movies I've seen 10ish years after the war talk about the atrocities that the main political party sometimes denies ever happened now.

I’d say King’s Maine. The monsters generally don’t effect the whole town and you sometimes get a chance to run from them. Plus on occasion they’re weak to the power of friendship. In Hawkins the monsters are going to kill indiscriminately unless you’re friends with a specific little girl and there’s very little you can do about it. Carey is like Maine up to 11, all monsters and none of the benefits. Honestly any Junji Ito town is probably the worst place to be. Rebels takes longer but is also shorter. People complaining about the lack of good Star Wars content need to just watch the good Star Wars content. Is there a good Rebels one besides Obi/Maul? I’d say the final duel here is easy top five for me, along with Sidious v Maul/Savage, Rey/Kylo v the Praetorians, plus the ROTS Ani/Obi duel and Luke/Vader in ROTJ (almost entirely for the music cue, I love that music cue). I consider the Obi/Maul duel it’s own thing, since it’s power is more in the poetry of it in the grand scheme of things versus it as a duel in isolation. There’s been a few discussions about Obi leaving him. My two cents is Vader could still have struck him down if he tried and Obi still loves him and can’t bring himself to truly end things. He’s just flawed as a person in some ways. I think Owen and Beru got roasted alive by a bunch of Stormtroopers, no? It’s a bit different than defending against a lone intruder. They also expected her, and she didn’t expect them. I think Obi talking about Leia’s parents is fine in front of Bail. He loves them as much as Obi does.

I’m torn on it. In-universe it makes sense, that Obi still loves him and won’t kill him (in ROTS Anakin was in agony and Obi left him to die when killing him would have actually helped Anakin), and it makes sense that he can see that Vader must live for the best case scenario (something we can also tell out of universe). I stated before that, even weakened, Vader is dangerous so Obi getting close enough to kill him for good would put himself at risk too. But I do wish they’d found a way to make it cleaner somehow. They could have had the duel happen in a scenario where time is of the essence, and Obi’s choice is to save someone else versus take out Vader.

Thread Obi-Wan Kenobi |OT| Well of course I know him. He's me! [SPOILERS ON EPISODE DROP - NO LEAKS]
I feel like there was a serious discussion about this back in the day concerning the duels at the end of ROTS. Basically, going in you assume that only Yoda is as good as Palps, but in reality they don’t quite know how strong Palps is, and it’s possible a swap could have ended decisively for the heroes. Obi does struggle a bit against Dooku and Grievous, admittedly.

I think more Reva stuff could be interesting, it just really depends on where they take her. They’d need to do something really unique, as there’s already been a few dark side redemption arcs. I honestly wonder if Vader saying he killed Anakin was all Anakin talking. Like, that’s actually the nicest thing he could say to Obi about the situation, it’s essentially admitting that Anakin defeated himself and did it knowingly. It takes Obi off the hook. I do like the idea of a season two focused on Obi/Qui Gon training (especially if they go weird like Mortis or the original Clone Wars finale with Yoda), but you are aware Grievous is like super dead by now, right? They were only firing a couple of cannons at them, I’m pretty sure they just wanted to disable them so Vader could board and kill Obi. I imagine part of Palps being mad at him later is that he had the opportunity to end the Path but didn’t care at all and let them escape for his own personal vendetta. It’s also consistent with ANH where they didn’t launch ties when they needed to board the Tantive IV.

I noticed the difference and made the same Rebels connection that you did. I thought it was an interesting choice, especially since the scene is him very gingerly threatening Vader to never fuck to that bad again. I dunno. Are they protecting Luke and Leia because they’ll be strong Jedi one day or because, as direct links to Vader, they serve a purpose beyond that? Luke defeating Vader isn’t what saves the galaxy, Luke turning Vader is. Vader can be manipulated still by the few who know the truth (Obi, Yoda, Bail, and now Reva), it might actually be beneficial to have that weakness around.

Reva getting to Luke, despite being stabbed, before Obi did bugged me but otherwise I really liked it. The Vader fighter just felt like concept art come to life, Owen and Beru kicked ass, and it was nice to see Qui Gon again (they can hand wave continuity by saying this was Obi Wan imagining him fully formed or something if they want to). I think I’ll enjoy it more on an eventual rewatch, it might benefit from binging. I want a low key season 2 that’s just Obi and Qui Gon reminiscing and philosophising while Leia gets brought around to senate meetings and gets to be a kid.

My head canon is that Obi realised the only way to truly kill Vader was to get closer and stab him with the lightsaber, and Vader still had his out and could be faking the extent of his injuries as a trap. His goal was already accomplished (diverting the destroyer) so why risk it. He also still can’t bring himself to kill Anakin, even if Vader says he’s already dead.

Thread So Why Are There More of an Abundance of Successful Women Comics Authors in Japan Compared to the USA (or the whole 77% of Mangakas are Women)?
Manga just seems way bigger and therefore more able to be diverse and reach a diverse audience than American comics are. Like, you pretty much have to go to a specialised store in the US for comics (graphic novels are somewhat easier to get) but manga is, comparatively, everywhere in Japan. I haven’t looked at numbers in awhile, but back when I was reading comic news regularly the top three comics a month were lucky to sell 100k copies a month, there’d maybe be 10-20 books between that and 50k, and the top hundred books a month included things that sold under 10k. Manga seems much more successful.

I’m sure things will get clearer in a lil bit as we find out what’s next for a lot of the characters who have been getting intros. The people I know who’ve seen it said it was really good, so I’m sure it’s fine. I think, at least in terms of marketing, it just failed to capitalise on anything. It’s a Toy Story spin off that doesn’t look like Toy Story, it’s a Buzz Lightyear movie with little Buzz iconography from the rest of the franchise (I’m not saying they needed to heavily reference the cartoon, but it felt more detached because they didn’t), and its initial reveal promised a throwback movie but the plot and visuals just looks like kind of a generic sci fi action thing. I do imagine when it comes to D+ we’ll suddenly see a lot more interest in it. I don’t think it’s a ‘no one will see Pixar films in theater after D+ thing’ I think it’s just not a film with a clear audience.

My reading on a lot of these specific variants (where the ‘bad guys’ are morally correct so the writer has them do an unforgivable later on to make them less sympathetic) has been a bit more charitable, in that they know the ‘villain’ has a valid point so they have to overcorrect. If they thought the Flagsmashers, for example, were in the wrong from the get go they wouldn’t have needed them to up the ante to justify them as the villains of the peice. They intended them to be interesting villains but wrote themselves into a corner where they weren’t villains anymore and, realising it, ‘fixed’ it. It does make me thankful that at least some of these things change over time (like Poison Ivy and, to a lesser extent, Harley Quinn).

This happens a lot in modern fiction, I feel like. A variant even briefly happened in Moon Knight (though there it was more swiftly shown to be a murderous cult so it wasn’t as bad), and you could argue it was the downfall of GoT too. My first thought was the Flagsmashers in Falcon/Winter Soldier but I guess they are eventually written to be bad people. My second thought was in Ran, who’s entire family gets murdered so she plots revenge against the family responsible, but the film is from their perspective so she’s the villain (it’s been a few years since I last saw it, so she ‘may’ have been a bit extra villainous, but still).

Yeah I agree with all of this. Doubly so in a story like Star Wars, death really robs other writers of getting a crack at characters, it’s like killing a Batman Rogue in the comics. You can tell infinite stories until someone’s dead, then you’re stuck with just prequels if anything. It’s more impactful to do something life changing to them and see them react to it. I really don’t think Vader or the Grand Inquisitor give a shit if Reva lives or dies. The latter underestimated her and suffered for it, but otherwise she’s no threat to either of them so leaving her alive on an abandoned planet is whatever. Like, Anakin probably remembers how Maul came back, and he didn’t turn the tides either. Leaving Reva alive to them is just gonna cause minor inconveniences later on. And we know they’re right because both die and Reva has nothing to do with either death.

I thought that episode was amazing. A few quibbles here and there but nothing that ruined it for me. Loved seeing the flashback, the refugees, the ship trick (I rewound it and it was in the background the whole time), the stormtroopers still can’t sim for shit but the shoot outs were so chaotic it didn’t diminish anything. Really curious where this ends up. He’s already flying a fast moving ship in ANH, not sure he wants to put himself in additional danger by also trying to force throw another fast moving ship at the same time. Otherwise Vader in the OT is rarely if ever actually working at full strength. He’s usually toying with the protagonists or using them as tools for something else.

Yeah, I agree about the MCU stuff. It also helps them please more of the fanbase because, while stuff does occasionally get darker or lighter, there's way less of it (only TV shows and movies) so fans aren't really coming at in from different angles (Star Wars can get pretty dark in the books and comics). No one is really going into the MCU wanting everything to be Winter Soldier. I feel like the first episode did a good job of showing what that sort of show would be. I'm wondering if we get more Owen this season, btw, because there was a lot of talk in early press about how thankful the crew was for that actor already being cast... but he hasn't been in it much. Like, my ideal Obi show is an introspective show set entirely on Tatooine with no action whatsoever outside of maybe a flashback or two. I was talking to my dad about the most recent episode and he noted how he was getting really sick of "save X from the Imperial base" plots, having just recently watched all of Rebels for the first time. I agree, though the novelty of live action Obi Wan doing it had me not notice it personally as an annoyance, even though I've been sick of that plot in the past. I can't tell if this is serious or not. You are aware that Star Wars has had jokes and slapstick forever, right? Was this supposed to be the plot? Vader always seemed presented as a "and also we're bringing Vader back so the two actors can work together again" as opposed to it being a Vader-central story. I'm not opposed to seeing more of the transition, but he's been at it ten years by this point so I'd imagine a lot of the transition has already happened. I think the whole Jedi searching thing is a smaller part of the Empire. I'm sure Vader could grab a few Star Destroyers if he saw it necessary, but I'm not sure how he could justify it to anyone to give him all that military might over one guy. Vader hates him and I'm sure Palps probably wants him dead too, but neither know about Obi and Yoda's plan so it's more a loose end than an actual danger to the Empire. I'm curious about this too. Something similar happened in Rebels, where they were using them as a way to send other Jedi into traps. I think it's a creepy thing so I'm intrigued to see where they go with it.

The show’s not perfect by any means but the anger people have for it is utterly baffling to me. I liked Book of Boba too but I could at least understand the complaints there. There’s a difference between “this show isn’t as good as I wanted” and “no one who made this cares.” That was weird but water was actually seeping through the door in the background, so they didn’t ignore it completely. I imagine it’s possible it wasn’t supposed to be as gaining on him as it was but the scene played better with it getting closer and they didn’t have time to reshoot with him wet. I imagine it’ll depend a lot on the story they go to for second season. Movies tend to get announced super early, while games usually get announced with a trailer at a big event.

As someone who’s fascinated by it, all I care about is sending some drones inside with really good 3D scanners. I wanna explore it in full 3D, as much of it is left. If they get a full scan they can let it stay there. I’m also honestly not that perturbed by the idea of bringing back parts of it. I understand the issue of disturbing a final resting place, but if there’s stuff there that does not exist anywhere else in the historical record I think it should be saved (I would imagine it’s sister ship had a lot, so what is unique would be minimal).

I’ve been playing a lot of Arceus recently and the art/graphics thing is not getting any less noticeable. It’s more blatant in that some areas or times of day in the game look gorgeous, and they clearly intended for a stylised look in certain areas (and they’re great!) but other areas are just the same terrain pattern duplicated over and over in a really noticeable way. All the character models look great, at least. Epic Mickey feels like a weird borderline case, as I recall it’s graphics generally being pretty good and reasonable compared to updated concept art, but nothing compared to the leaked stuff they never intended to use.

Leia becoming a senator is more a family tradition thing, like Bail is a famous elected senator and he’s expecting Leia to follow in his footsteps. I think we last saw them at Padme’s funeral? I don’t imagine they know about the twins being alive, and I don’t think anyone in canon has written a post ROTJ story about Luke and Leia going to Naboo to find them (though they should!) Naboo’s senate/queen thing is weird. I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s a traditional monarchy but two different titles. I think the ‘elect’ queens and senators are separate things (otherwise Palps and Jar Jar couldn’t be senators).

This is just reminding me how much I want a “Leia going to Naboo” book. I think it’s been touched on here and there in comics and other stuff, but not even the excellent Bloodlines book really dwelled on it. You’d think it wouldn’t be that hard for Leia to find contemporaries of Padme, especially if the ROTS deleted scenes with her and Mon Mothma are considered canon. It’d certainly be easier to find than contemporaries of Anakin (only Ashoka is really left). I really hope they do a post-ROTJ Han/Luke/Leia cartoon at some point, cause there’s no way the tech is good enough to give us as good a Ashoka/Leia/Luke scene as we need on screen otherwise in something like Mando or the Ashoka show.

I hope not. Barring a heroic sacrifice I can’t imagine any of their death(s) being simultaneously dramatic enough to justify while also not making the show too dark to be enjoyable. I like the cast enough I don’t want anyone to bite it, honestly, a lot of the fun of the show IS the cast.

It’s still retroactive, though, in how the series is viewed as a whole. If the series ends with some of them sacrificing themselves to stop the Mind Flayer once and for all or something, that’s fine. I don’t think the show can pull off killing one of them effectively otherwise without getting way too dark. The show is a horror show but it’s also light and fast paced, I don’t think it can slow down to properly process a non-finale-sacrifice death. Also with IT as an early inspiration I’d imagine a time skip sequel is inevitable a decade or two down the line.

I think it's actually 'canon' that Qui Gon is/will train Obi/Yoda to become a Force Ghost, so I'll reiterate everyone else in saying he's super likely to show up in some capacity. I think Clone Wars established he didn't finish his own training and can only show up as an orb, though, so I wouldn't expect a full on non-VO cameo. Personally I genuinely want to see Dexter Jettster again. There's only a slim window for him to appear though (he'd have to be part of the collective on Jabiim or after leaving/escaping Jabiim Obi would have to go to him as one of the few people he knows he can still trust). If people's hopes and dreams of a Clone Wars era flashback are real, I'd imagine Padme/Ashoka are a lock.

I'm kind of hoping, thinking about difficulty levels in the open world, that they're actually kind of realistic? Like, directly outside of cities there'd be weak Pokemon, the further into nature the stronger they get (and the local trainers to match them). You can explore anywhere, but certain areas will be dangerous in the early game, so you'd have to alter your playstyle to get through them effectively depending on when you go. Gym Leaders would have scaling sets of Pokemon based on how far into the story you've gotten. And then maybe certain story beats and sidequests would also adjust wild encounters (like, for example, defeating the evil team would free the Pokemon they've been holding hostage and you'd see them more in the open world, or destroying a blockade would let Pokemon from two regions interact and change rarities).

I also think Leia will probably get home safe before any Vader confrontation happens, though I feel like in the old comics she and him bumped into each other a lot pre-ANH, so it’s not crazy that she’d meet him here. I like guessing these sorta things! -Do we know Anakin becoming Vader is a secret? Especially with the Inquisitors, who may have worked with him as a Jedi before he fell. -Vader got more damage and he’s fine, I bet the other two on the planet rushed him to medical help. -This one I’ve got no clue. -My assumption is that she’s one of the kids from the prologue and they hid out in the temple, saw Kenobi when he arrived with Yoda, but for whatever reason he couldn’t or didn’t save them and she’s held a grudge ever since.

I think it’s good for stuff to go public domain but it’s not going to be the big bonanza of freedom some people think it will be. Some characters and stories will benefit more than others. Like, for the comparatively near future, once you have flying Superman with Lois in public domain you can make a pretty great Supes film. I don’t think the same is true for other comic characters since their gestation was so long. There’s also not a ton you can do with the first few decades of Disney films other than share them freely, most of those characters are already public domain. Mickey Mouse is iconic but as a character there’s not much to him besides the recognition.

I think it's less about the characters and more about the timeline. Like, if they jump super far in the future they can't reuse anything from prior movies. If they jump, say, ten years and set it in a shaky but rebuilding New Republic, there's more connective tissue to Star Wars than just setting it after they'd all be dead. Setting it too far in advance also boxes them when the ST gets the same fan resurgence the PT has now, since they'd still have to build towards something else.

My hope is they figure out what to do with Rey/Finn/Poe quickly. Give them an animated show if they're not going to use them for movies. It makes sense, regardless of that, that they'd want to be careful with post ST stuff. They kind of have things wide open, but the most pressing real-world stuff would be all politics. They've been done before a lot on Rebels. There's also a (two-parter I think?) with some returning characters from other shows which is pretty fun. That's what I plan to do with the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special next time I do a marathon. I swear I remember reading about a depressing meeting had on Batman: The Animated Series where an ad exec or someone similar had a full on fit screaming that every child in America owned or would own five different Batman figures and their job was to make sure they could sell more vehicles and play sets. It’s bizarre, especially for Batman with his huge rogues gallery, that their goal was to sell multiple of the same character instead of getting kids to buy one Batman and then collect all the villains. Then again, the action figure business often thought female figures were so unwanted that even if they made them there’d only be one per case. I can see the lack of normal Batman in a collector series, where they assume people will buy every figure in each wave so they need to be new (that’s why Marvel Legends gets wacky, I think) but I never thought of those early Batman series as collector focused.

Thread The MCU’s bad habit of setting up a villain just to kill them in the next movie
Not really sure why the DCEU keeps getting brought up in this, since they're still struggling to figure out how they even want their cinematic universe to function. I think had a fun idea with pulling this off, by setting things up so the other villains can just be hanging out in the background later on. Like how Scarecrow showed up in bits in the other two Nolan films after Begins. That sort of thing also gives them the opportunity to bring them back in a bigger way in TV shows, like how Batroc showed up in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. We are getting a full blown Agatha show, so alongside Loki at least two have been left alive (sorta) long enough to get dedicated spin-offs.

I’m fine with a Scooby-less adaptation of the franchise. Scooby basically just does the exact same thing Shaggy does in most plots (other than, I suppose, times where it’s only them +/- Daphne/Scrappy). You can still do the exact same Scooby Doo plot without him. It’s not the same formula as, say, Courage the Cowardly Dog where without Courage there’s no plot. Incidentally the Scooby/Courage movie was awesome. There’s also a new Scooby-Doo show every few years, plus Scoob 2 coming (as far as I know) so he’ll be back shortly. Scooby Doo and Guess Who is either still active or just ended?

They should do a generic Guy In A Mask (I was gonna call him Old Man Jenkins but realised that’s Spongebob) and give them either Bowser Jr style pallet swaps to be different monsters or have them put on costumes for different movesets ala Pokémon Trainer. They could do a single classic villain too. I kinda wish the villains in the DTV films were more iconic but I don’t think the Werecats or Witch’s Ghost would work great. Thread Kathleen Kennedy says they learned from ‘SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY’ getting new actors to replicate any of the OG characters is near impossible
That phrasing is bad but I get it. Like, if this was a Solo movie starring Harrison Ford I think it would have done great (the plot would have had to change, obviously). A lot of character appeal is from the actors, so just doing other stuff with them isn’t going to have the same level of interest. It might have done well as it stood if it was released right after TFA too, but a prequel with a different case answering questions no one had wasn’t a great bet. I’m really curious what their end game is with CGI Luke. The more they use him the more I think they have big plans but, like, I’m not sure how scalable that is. Feels like it’d be easier if they got a show out that was set when Kylo was young, they could just have Mark then with some de-aging tech. (For the record I adore Solo and would have loved a sequel)

Thread Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness |OT| No, more mutants. (SPOILERS)
My biggest issue with the movie is, at least to me, they didn't bring the Darkhold to the forefront as the sorta 'actual' villain as much as it should have if her actions were primarily due to it. Like, there's a pretty big gap between asking America nicely to use her powers (and upon finding out she's not able, training her to use them) and sending giant monsters to kill her. It's less clear than with Bucky, who seemed to have little to no free will at all as the Winter Soldier. I don't think we know enough about the universe to know if that's true. I'm not super aware of the comics version of the Illuminati, but my understanding was that they were more brains than brawn. They also didn't really go in prepared for what was coming to them (Mr. Fantastic and Carter had little chance against her powerset, if they knew what was coming I think the others may have been able to pull something off). They could easily have a bunch of other heroes and send a team over explicitly trained for Wanda's powerset, as strong as it is. Like, I imagine Jean Grey would still be hanging out over there? They might even still have a Vision.

So the two best animated/general shows on television got axed within three months of one another in the EXACT same way (Twitter leak by someone unrelated to production causing actual statement). Ducktales gets to join Venture Brothers in the great cartoony sky... I wonder if he'd had that written up for awhile just in case or had to put it together just now. This whole thing still feels really weird. S3 hasn't been as good as past years anyways, but it felt like it was clearly setting things up for the future. I guess getting Tailspin/DW/Goofy/Daisy in last minute is better than not getting them in at all, but still. There's a lot of weirdness if they really anticipated this being the end. I think for kids TV shows they have a very specific approach that hasn't changed since the 80s/90s. If a show is successful enough to get renewed once, it gets renewed again so they can pay it off as a lump sum and have it to use as reruns and merch. Then they cancel it because they already have the amount of content they needed, and spending more money for more episodes doesn't exactly get them more money back. In a very weird way it's why Nintendo only releases one Mario Kart per system: why make more of something when people are fine paying for the old one for a few more years? I don't necessarily think it's a good play, though, in this age of streaming versus kids just watching reruns on TV. You presumably want shows lasting longer so people stay hooked on streaming services to keep watching their favorites.

We’ll have to wait and see. I could have miscounted but I believe there’s 66 episodes aired, 69 if you count hour-long episodes as two episodes each (which they are in reruns). Unless S3 got extra episodes ordered, we realistically have anywhere between 5-10 episodes left, depending on how Disney is counting, and assuming the finale is also an hour long. Every now and again they'll make something similar in Goldfish and I'll try it and be dissapointed. I realize I could just add Cheerios to preexisting Chex Mix but the included varieties aren't a 1:1 with any modern version of Chex Mix. I also think it was a unique flavored Cheerio? Also, I swear to god, every other year Disney World discontinues the jalapeno cheese soft pretzel or stuffs it in a water park where I can't get it, and I never know if it's truly gone or if it'll be back. They're taunting me with it. Same thing with the truffle mac and cheese dog, but that at least seems to come back regularly.

I bet the team at Lucasfilm would have a blast with that assignment. Actually having Han, Luke, and Leia would be incredible, though. Like, Disney movies are iconic but thatd be a bit beyond what KH has done before, that would be like a LOTR world where the whole Fellowship is your party. I ‘hope’ the only big loss for brand rules is that you lose Leia/Han when you go to the Death Star to fight Vader. It would be pretty fun if we got a co-protagonist so the game could replicate the multiple battle threads of Endor, though (Sora/Luke v Vader, Kairi/Donald/Goofy/Leia/Han versus giant Heartless Shield Generator, Riku/Lando flying the gummi Falcon).

If they go MCU they should go hard and have it involve the Multiverse so it can be legit canon in both series. Sora teams up with Doctor Strange, everything is canon now. Or do a What If? style thing. Though I suppose with the multiverse basically anything MCU adjacent can now be considered 'canon.' I'd imagine they'd be more open with Moana nowadays. If they're the same with Encanto I don't think it could get as screwed up as Frozen did, just based on how the stories differ.

I think I've read somewhere that it's sort of accidental, it was in the first one, the sequel expanded it, and due to the film's plot (and KH1's use of it as a training/colosseum space) it's stupid easy to justify using it in each game. Being a lower priority property for Disney probably means they have more leeway with it too. Now that it's been in so many games (I think the only one it's missed is DDD?) it's become something they put in each game on purpose.

I do wonder, if somehow they knew Carrie wasn't going to make it to all three movies, if they'd have kept Luke alive for what would have become of TROS (not to beat a dead horse but it also annoyed me that TLJ set up Force Ghost Luke being a super easy thing for the sequel to use and it instead mostly just ignored it).

New52 certainly had issues but also had some solid stories and interesting relaunches (loved the Animal Man/Swamp Thing stuff, stuff like Demon Knights was super fun, and Justice League Dark had a great premise but kind of an awful reality). The worst thing about New52 was that certain characters were knocked away from what made them work and it took way too long to get them back to normal. A lot of the time it's just Netflix splitting up an order to make it look bigger, so they're not immune either. I think the recent second season reveal of Cuphead was just the second half of the episodes they ordered originally. It's cheaper to buy in bulk than to order an actual second season.

Yeah I'm not sure what the end game is, especially if the "looking for subscribers in other countries" thing is true. Even if they've maxed out in North America, that number is just going to go down and if they don't have a lot of shows coming. Especially since, if they rely on the binge, people aren't going to have a ton of time dedicated to each show before they run out. It's kind of the opposite of Disney and Paramount, where they're digging hard into their franchise niches and seemingly not being willing to cancel anything (yet). The only thing I can think of is "Bob's Burgers," but that may need some episode skipping depending on how young the kids are. I guess the Marvel/Star Wars animated shows under Disney straddle the line too, but they're heavy genre shows so it's not quite the same thing.

That speculation period was probably really unique in the franchise, because you had magazines releasing the Japanese info early and (poorly) translating and understanding it, plus the internet interactions about it. They can avoid the costume issue entirely with Robin by just having him be Nightwing from the get go. You’d lose something by not having the arc, but since I’d imagine no movie series would get to be more than a trilogy it’d be hard to do the arc anyways without it being the intent overall. My (hot?) take it that the Batgirls would be easier to pull off than the Robins. Stephanie and Cassandra have backstories and costumes that’d slide into most Batman stories with ease, without needing to make the whole plot about them. Same with Babs, who can be Oracle. If they’d figured out an MCU style DC universe that didn’t start at Dark Knight Returns Batman, it would have been pretty easy to get them all in over time.

I agree with you. The book obviously shouldn’t be taught at all. That’s absolutely fair. I agree.

I think we both agree with each other on a lot of this, you’re arguing from a camp of “this shouldn’t be in schools at all” (which I agree with) and I’m saying “but if it is there’s a bare minimum that should be done to ensure the students don’t come away with these egregious misconceptions the book isn’t even responsible for.”

You’re making this more complicated than it has to be. If it’s being read in or for class (regardless of whether it should be or not) it’s part of a curriculum with stuff (tests, quizzes, activities) based around it already. Making sure your class understands that it’s fiction and spending ten minutes going over the history before they read it and answering/asking questions to make sure they understand it at the end isn’t hard, nor would it be tripling the work. If you taught Anne Frank and people thought it was fiction it’d be the same issue (and I’m fairly certain that has been an issue in the past).

Ignoring everything else, reading some of those explanations and statistics for why it’s problematic, it’s also clear a lot of teachers are failing their job if kids are reading the thing for class without being told it’s fiction or the realities going on around it. I don’t remember what Holocaust stuff I was specifically taught in public school (besides parts of Anne Frank’s Diary) because Hebrew School showed so many traumatising videos that I’m not sure exactly what I saw where. Regardless of whether or not the teachers themselves have control of the curriculum, they are still presumably presenting some form of lesson plan around the book. The articles some other have quoted were about studies on students who had read the book (presumably in school, though I suppose they could have read it elsewhere). If my teachers had time to go in depth on all the symbolism in The Scarlet Letter, teachers with this in their curriculum should have time to explain the differences between reality and fiction.

I'll admit that in rewatching TPM a few times in the past few years, I've really not found him annoying. I think those shows got saved by virtue of how episodic they were. You can get a ton of enjoyment out of X-Files without ever touching a mytharc episode, for instance. The biggest problem with this thing is the absurd cost. Ideally, if they refuse to lower the price as-is, they can lower it as part of a bundle and/or add bonuses to it. Like, say, 8 grand gets you the Starcruiser + park tickets, dining plan, and rooms at the Poly for the rest of the week. It also feels kind of absurd to me that they don't include the lightsaber and droid from Galaxy's Edge as free perks. Also, I may have missed it, but did anyone say if there's anything special on the TVs? The few people I watched were too tired to use it. I do wonder how breaks and stuff work for them. Presumably the core crew of actors works 3-11 on the first day, does a split on the second (or just works in the evening) and then does the morning on the third day? And then swap out for a second crew for the next set of guests.

I’m waiting patiently for my Boba on a Rancor and Mod Squad toys. Mod Squad were great, it felt like a throwback to American Graffiti to me, like how Aphra is Star Wars’ version of Indy. I do think the show needed to pick a lane between “Boba the new, better Jabba” and “Boba the protector of Tatoinne.” It kinda just did both and didn’t land either, and should have either had him reaching out to other Bounty Hunters for help or exploring the issues on the planet and having a more Seven Samurai “training the villagers” plot (even if that was already done twice in SW I don’t care it’s a good plot).

Not as extreme as others, but I had a few friends growing up who, as we got older, I realised I was the only glue holding the friendship together (as they rarely if ever reached out to talk to me despite only a few years earlier being incredibly close, whereas I made it a point of keeping in touch). I’d say Community counts, some of the time it’s more elastic than others but they also just straight up did a Ken Burns documentary. The pilot thing is true-ish, but Clone Wars did that all the time anyways. There were episodes that starred Jar Jar, where it was a political thriller with Padme, that time it was just R2 as the lead, etc. The anthology format was baked into it.

The thing about Rebels is that nearly every episode in the (to me, not great) first two seasons has ‘something’ important that is featured heavily in the significantly better third and fourth seasons (my two cents is that it stays consistently good when the Rogue One crossovers start happening). I’d suggest watching the pilot and just reading the Wikipedia episode guide, watch anything with a returning character or that seems to be about backstory, and the season opener and finale of the first two years, then all of the final two. (Bad Clone Wars episodes tend to be big swings and interesting misses, while bad Rebels episodes are incredibly small swings with really baffling misses)

I liked both of the Mando centric episodes in isolation (a lot, actually) but with only one episode left I really wish they'd integrated it better. Unless the last episode is a full blown epic it really deflates from the Boba stuff to have that extra Mando stuff there. I'll stand by an earlier sentiment that people would have less complaints about Boba if more of his actions scenes had been in the armor. I'm realizing now that this is sorta similar to how Clone Wars worked, but that show had more episodes per season and anthology as its premise, so it was less weird when we'd hop around. I suppose the season could end with either the Pikes as the new Big Bad for Mando or Boba succeeding and Mando moving to work for him.

Rebo seemed to be conspicuously missing, thank god. The speech was weird, but I liked it. I thought they’d never bring Luke back due to the expense but he’s here better than ever, I imagine they’ll fix it for next time. I’m holding out hope we get an animated series about the OT Trio at some point so they can explore stuff like this without worrying about budget and availability. Han, Luke, and Leia post ROTJ being icons for an event series would be fantastic. This episode felt nigh perfect but I wish we got more Boba these last two episodes. I wonder if it was a Doctor Who situation where they realised they couldn’t have Temuera in every episode so they did these two, but it’s weird we haven’t really gotten a full blown Boba Fett being awesome in his armor scene yet and we’re near the end. And presumably it’ll be a showcase. Bane bringing up the Empire is something I hope is more important. Boba hasn’t really shown any remorse for what he did for them, and the lack of it could be an interesting bit of drama for later on even if he’s otherwise trying to be better.

Yeah, I think about how Trek has been doing this for 55 years sometimes when I'm wondering about how Star Wars or Marvel are going to deal with continuity stuff. Trek kinda has an easier job than Star Wars since I don't think anything but the shows/films is considered actual canon, but it's pretty on par with the MCU just having been on for longer. And they almost never get any props for it (possibly because besides for right now, there was only really two periods with multiple shows/films at once). I knew that Endgame nod to Trek and loved seeing it. And supposedly the plot was based around "All Good Things" which was a brilliant idea. I wish more people pulled from what Trek did well, I feel like it often gets forgotten. Which is my way of saying I want more movie sequels to go "let's make out own The Voyage Home" instead of "let's make our own Empire Strikes Back."

I imagine D+ will have the easiest time of getting consistent viewership in a year or two. The fanbases for Star Wars and MCU stuff is pretty similar, and they'll eventually reach a point where there's at least one new episode of a show for either franchise premiering most weeks of the year. Netflix also has the most well established recurring content of the lot, so it'd make sense people would stick with them as they watch new things and get alerts about new episodes. I don't think it's set in exactly what the other streamers have, as a lot of core titles have jumped around over the years. The exception would be Disney+, but the legacy content there is specialized to the point if you wanted it you likely already have it.

Thread Non-sexual fan service that irritated you? (SPOILERS)
The thing that bugs me about Luke in Mando is that they barely pulled it off, and they're clearly not going to be able to have him just hang around as a regular cast member, so unless there's an animated series coming for that time frame they basically wrote themselves into a corner with him. I don't dislike the scene on it's own, but I'm not sure how justified it is later on. Like, if we're going to get a Luke cartoon, than I'll be happy as can be, but I'd imagine it's unlikely since the Rebels follow up seems like it's going to be the Ashoka show. As for TROS I felt like they made the dumbest fanservice choices possible. -Luke straight up tells Kylo he'll see him around in TLJ and never does in TROS. -They cut Mustafar to the point you can't even recognize it. -The ending fanfare scene has Bespin, Endor, and Jakku... which makes sense if Lando is the main character but none of the main trio have been to 2/3rds of those. -THE DEATH STAR 2 IS A MAJOR PLOT POINT AND THEY MADE UP A NEW PLANET FOR IT TO FALL ON INSTEAD OF JUST BRINGING BACK EWOKS -C-3P0's entire plot could have been a really fun prequel callback with a return to Naboo and Coruscant but instead it's just a fourth Hoth. -The Tantive IV shows up just to be blown up with Nien Nunb inside. -They literally add backstory to the only one of the new trio with any backstory to justify a dumb sideplot. Instead of doing anything that ties into the existing backstory. -They bring back the Sith! And do literally nothing with them. -They bring back the Knights of Ren! Also literally do nothing with them. -Carrie Fisher may be dead but her daughter is at least-oh nevermind she's barely in it. I swear to god if they just straight up ripped off ROTJ it would have been better.

I feel like there'd be less complaints about Boba if that fight in the first episode with the shield guys had been done better. There hasn't been a ton of other present day fights for him to show off, so everyone is focusing on that one + the ones where he's clearly not in the best situation. There's some characters that would clearly be in Boba's camp but we could also have Cad Bane show up on the other side. Star Wars is also home to the five second walk on becoming a fan favorite so it wouldn't be hard to have next week's episode be a team up and then a five second tease to the Pikes' elite forces and recruits that has everyone buzzing. Mando was such a big deal they actually cancelled pretty much any spin-off they'd had about him or his story so they wouldn't get boxed in on the show, so unless I'm mistaken there hasn't actually been any expanded material released about Mandalorians in that time period outside the episodes.

Thread That one time Lisa Simpson dyed her hair brown (and other alt. looks you liked).
I always really dug Padme’s pilot outfit, which she presumably wore somewhat regularly but barely shows up in AOTC (and Forces of Destiny) and has gotten exactly two bits of merch and generally seems completely forgotten among her zillion outfits. Unless she wore it at some point in Clone Wars and I forgot.

Thread Star Trek Discovery renewed for Season 5, several other Trek shows get renewals & air dates
I'll wait for Picard to be over for season two then sub for another month again to catch up and watch Lower Decks (which I imagine I'll adore). I've never actually watched a Trek as it was airing outside the first episode of Enterprise, so this is pretty much par for the course. I just hope they eventually make something better than DS9 because I would really love to finish that show but I'm scare when I'm done it's all downhill. Picard was weird but I really liked the first episode and the Riker episode. It wasn't great Trek but it was a passable way to see Picard again. My least favorite thing was the pointless "dating the obviously evil guy" subplot. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes, and also do more fan service. It was crazy how little fan service the first season had (and why not bring back more old actors?).

Thread What's missing for an indie pokemon-like smash hit?
I feel like it’s worth noting that even at their height, none of the games mentioned in the OP were nearly as popular as Pokémon was at its most unpopular. And Pokémon has been a far more consistent presence (there’s been a new game of some sort nearly every year for over two decades). To combat it you’d need to go toe to toe with it, it’s not like Stardew where the series it’s inspired by was dormant.

Thread How do you feel about Nintendo's output so far on the Switch? are you satisfied or were you expecting more?
On the one hand, it has FIVE games in my top thirty most played of all time already (Smash, AC, FE Warriors, BOTW, FE 3H) but on the other hand... I miss all the weird deep cut games they used to make. It’s quality over quantity but the quality is mostly games that are just better versions of games I’ve already played, so it doesn’t quite have an identity to itself?

Reading the Buzzfeed article about this: A. It’s not a idea to use money from crypto and whatnot to purchase real world products with the intent of making them more accessible. B. That’s not what they did though. C. The article has someone involved straight up say “we can’t just scan it and put it on the internet for free” but you very clearly just… can.

Thread Is Lasagna the best Italian meal?
I don't think I've ever had lasagna that was good enough that I was excited to have it as leftovers. I also find that I'm rarely served enough to be full and there's way too much sauce to lasagna percentage going on half the time. Pasta wins it, specifically spaghetti or ziti.

Thread Have You Ordered Pizza When There is Snow Out?
If it stopped snowing and there's no ice and it's been shoveled I wouldn't worry too much about it. I feel bad about asking people do deliver if the weather is bad or it's a busy time of the day/week/a holiday, personally. I've ordered food a day or two before a big food holiday just so I can have leftovers to eat ON the holiday instead of asking someone to go out and deliver (and asking the business to prepare even more food) and a super busy day.

Thread Did You Know Someone Who Had One of These Dolls?
God, that brings up some unearthed memories. My grandma used to take me to craft and hobby stores all the time and I remember them being there and me avoiding them like they'd kill me. Luckily she never bought one. My other grandma had a sort of life size grandma doll that I sat in a chair and was made of the exact same material but DID have a face. Literally the entire family was terrified of her. Like this (I think the exact dress and hat and hair) but with a creepier face.

Thread Who has the widest gap in quality between their best and their worst work?
For actors, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford were in both If that doesn't count, Hamill, Ford, and Billy Dee Williams were in and . You can throw Yasujirō Ozu in there with him. His worst films are just kind of inoffensively boring silent pictures, and his best film is . Masaki Kobayashi too (his worst are just kinda bland films and his best are masterpieces) but a lot of his later work is unavailable in the west so I suppose it's possible he has a legit stinker.

Thread Mashed potatoes v. Mac and Cheese
Mashed potatoes are better on average, I think. Like you can get shitty versions of either, but it’s harder to screw up mashed potatoes. Also I highly recommend just mixing the two together. It tastes good and then you get to lay down and take a nice nap after.

Thread What was your go-to "special birthday dinner" as a kid?
For awhile we’d go to Chilis every year for my bday because it was the only restaurant near a Pokémon store that served food I would eat. No memory whatsoever of what I had each year, but I still remember all of the possibly unlicensed Pokémon toys I got from that store over the years. I think both are closed now.

Thread It amazes me that Wonder Woman is getting a video game before Superman.
Hot take but a Superman game should de-prioritise combat and be all about decision making. Like you can fly around and punch things, but the meat of the game is managing your own impulses to not get people killed/stuff destroyed and be seen as a hero instead of a villain. Luthor could even be a overarching villain who keeps throwing enemies at you that to defeat would cause destruction in itself. (also, like, Wonder Woman is almost as indestructible/invulnerable, they’re definitely going to ignore that for the game)

Thread Five 8 hour days, four 10 hour days, it's all bullshit.
My schedule is pretty regular but 1-2 days a week are so exhausting that I’m not even awake enough to do stuff when I get home on those days. And I’m working 40 hours a week already, so it’s like losing and additional day every week. My hot take is retail stores should be open 10-6 each day and if customers don’t have hours that match up, tough shit, buy it online. Especially now when it’s incredibly difficult to be staffed (there are three positions our company has wanted filled at all times and we have the staff to fill one of them once a week). The best days of my entire career where right when lockdown ended when we were only open 12-5, and only for curbside. And we’d go in early to still hit 40 hours and actually have time to get stuff done. I lost my train of thought somewhere. Customers have been trained by retailers to expect everything handed to them and it’s ruined the entire system, and they need to be weened off of it.

Thread Five 8 hour days, four 10 hour days, it's all bullshit.
Mid pandemic they actually made us open LATER than we were open pre-pandemic, and we fought it tooth and nail as “this is dumb and won’t make any money” and were ignored, it didn’t work and we didn’t make any money, and now we’re back to our old hours. Honestly we could close two hours earlier and we’d only be out 1-2 grand tops a day, if that, as the only thing that happens before we close is big returns. We actually did that, but it’s still vastly more work than our tiny team can do. It’s greed but more specifically a refusal to adjust expectations to realities.

Thread Does the fact that Max Goof ages mean he is a mortal being capable of feeling pain/hunger/dying/etc?
We need someone with young children to report on if he’s in the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or spin off shows and at what age so we can see if it connects to Ducktales. Incidentally, Ducktales revealed the characters from Tailspin ALSO age.

He (and Roxanne I think) were in Ducktales but aged down to about Goofy Movie age. Which leads credence to the theory Disney cancelled their best show SO NO ONE WOULD KNOW THE TRUTH. Weird addendum to this whole mystery is how Japan seems to get merch of all three known ages of Max (kid, teen, college).

Yeah they snuck the cancellation under the radar, almost the exact same situation as Venture Brothers (it basically got leaked on Twitter). They sort of wrapped everything up? Like, Season 3 set up the possibility of a bigger Disney Afternoon team up but it never happened. The only huge plot thread left hanging was about a specific villain.

Thread So, i decided to go and visit Edinburgh Castle - what Castles have been to?
I've been to Warwick Castle, Windsor Castle, Osaka Castle, Kumamoto Castle, Kifune Castle, and the Fukuoka Castle Ruins. I like them all a lot! Castles are just really cool places to explore. I was a little disappointed that a lot of the Japanese ones were reconstructions, but I thought Osaka's museum was really cool inside. Kumamoto Castle has this really great old timey market in front of it, but I think my favorite is Kifune Castle in Beppu. It's pretty small but there are some priests who live there and to get in you first bow before a preserved sacred snake and then you worship a living snake inside. The place inside is bizarre, because it looks like someone's grandparents moved into a temple so there's incredibly impressive art works and old timey weapons and paintings and prints and folding screens and just glass cabinets full of stuff grandparents would collect, and everything inside seems preserved from 100 years ago. Also I don't speak Japanese so I may have inadvertently joined a cult when I was there?

Thread [NateTheHate] New Fire Emblem and Metroid Prime remaster coming in 2022, Persona 6 exclusive to PS5, and more
That Metroid release to coincide with the anniversary feels iffy to me, just due to it being the same sort of logic people jump on to argue about when things will release that Nintendo rarely bothers with. I do like everything I see, though, if it is true. Feels kinda weird we're getting a new FE before a remaster, though.

Thread The Book of Boba Fett |OT| Please...speak freely [SPOILERS ON EPISODE DROP - NO LEAKS]
I have a desperate need for toys of the space vespas. A desperate need I haven’t felt in a long time. They’re shiny and I want them. That chase did seem bizarrely slow paced. I like the show this far, but I’m hoping next week will be the true turning point. There’s been a lot of set up over these past few episodes and it seems like it’s coming to a head now. Timeline wise I wonder if Boba recruits Fennec to kill the raiders. Also today I found out the original rancor trainer went to live with Cobb Vanth, apparently.
