Hm, yeah, that ending wasn't very satisfying was it? Shame, because I thought the season up to that point was very solid. Though I can't get over how misleading the key art was - they clearly suggested that the main feature of Red Tide was going to be some kind of aquatic creature (siren, mermaid, whatever) but in the end it was just day vampires... Hope Death Valley turns out stronger!

Agreed on all points! I know filming on location can be expensive in states that don't offer generous tax incentives, but every time I see that a new show is set in LA, NY, or Chicago, my eyes glaze over. We need more stories told in/around/about small towns, reservations, and even large, but still underexplored cities like...idk Boise or Wichita or something.

just got a series s and I'm confused :( when i click on a game in gamepass, install or download or whatever, nothing happens? It seems like I can only add games from the microsoft store? I also can't seem to figure out how to view my downloads? like I have to search the game through gamepass and then click "view in queue" or something, but there has to be a simpler way to view downloads. on 360 all you had to do was press the home button and it was right there but I pressed the home button here and I didn't see anything related to downloads? and then in the queue, there's no indication that it's downloading and after like 10+ minutes the download/install is still at 0% help :C

It'll be interesting to see if the show pops up on Nielsen's streaming chart. I can't imagine they'll actually get 5-6 seasons if it doesn't perform, like, outstandingly well since Hulu's dramas tend not to go past 2-3 seasons unless they're The Handmaid's Tale (or the much much cheaper East Los High).

I watched all three episodes and also decided to reread the comic to refresh my memory because it's been years since I last read it. I'm reading the comic after each episode, but only through the parts that are more or less covered in the show so I don't get ahead of it. I'd say there are two primary differences thus far: 1. the humor of the comic has been scaled back quite a bit so the show is more dramatic and serious; 2. the pacing is much slower on the show. The overall plot through the first 3 episodes is about 65% of the way through the first volume of the comic, but the comic feels more eventful. Society has declined much more rapidly at the start of the comic - for example, . The comic jumped headfirst into its crazy premise, whereas the show seems like it would rather slowly walk us through it step by step. It feels more natural and allows for deeper characterization and world building, but it also feels fairly dour and a bit like they want to drag things out. That said, I still enjoyed these episodes. I actually think every actor is doing a good job, with 355 being the standout. I don't hate Yorick, but he's also not coming across as particularly Yoricky at the moment (some of that is the actor but I think it primarily falls on the writing. His sense of humor is too muted and there's barely any magic trick/escape artist stuff thus far). Diane Lane's storyline is off to a solid start, and I'm intrigued by Amber Tamblin's Meghan McCain stand in. Not sure what they're doing with Marin Ireland's character yet - she feels a bit superfluous but I'm sure her importance will be revealed in time. What they're doing with Hero is interesting, establishing previous traumas , I'm guessing for We'll see if that's where they take it though. Hmm, what else...

Genuinely surprised by the lack of interest this has generated here. Given how beloved the movie is, I thought more people would jump on this. Anyway, season one ended tonight (season two begins airing next week and then the show will go on hiatus until sometime next year when seasons three and four will similarly air back to back) and I enjoyed it a fair amount. It's not as explosively funny as the WWDITS show often is, but it's still a highly amusing romp with a winning cast. Can't wait to see what kind of cryptids they tackle in S2. :D

I don't know...I think I might drop this. The first season was pretty good but they quickly ran out of steam in S2 and the first episodes of S3 didn't do anything to inspire confidence. In fact they were quite painful for me to get through. It's a show that's just way too in love with itself but isn't half as cute, clever, or funny as it thinks it is. I think I prefer Wellington Paranormal at this point, even though it hasn't elicited anywhere near as many laughs as the first season of WWDitS. It just has this gentle, unassuming quality to it that I find more appealing.

So first of all, the whole premise and appeal of American Horror Stories is that it's an episodic anthology, meaning every episode tells a standalone story like the Twilight Zone or Black Mirror. Except 3 of the 7 episodes - almost half of the season - have one continuous and overarching storyline. Thus defeating the whole purpose of the fucking show? Like... Anyway, these 3 episodes (the two part season premiere and the finale) were only ones written by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The first two are a tired and generic retread of the first season of the show, Murder House. Reusing the same tropes, setup, etc that fans have seen a million times thus far (Murder House stuff appears in other seasons of the show too). They're a boring waste of time but whatever. Then the finale.

Hope he gets to do it!

Thread TV in September 2021 - What are you watching?
September is the official start of the fall TV season, when basically every broadcast network's lineup is back in full swing! We got One Chicago, both NCIS', both Law & Orders, all three FBI's, and Fox's Animation Domination! Cable is also going hard with the highly anticipated return of American Crime Story on FX, along with the third season of What We Do in the Shadows; Billions is back with the second part of season five after COVID played havoc with their scheduling; Sex Education is back too, and don't forget Doom Patrol! September is also when we say goodbye to several favorites, with the final seasons of Dear White People, Lucifer, Goliath, and The Walking Dead: World Beyond. But there's lots of promising new series too, each with the potential to become your next obsession! (why did I write that lol) HBO had the audacity to remake Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage, starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain - genius or hubris? Then there's American Rust, starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney - we like them right? There is a new Star War, this time in anime form; Wonder Years is getting rebooted on ABC; BJ Novak has some kind of anthology thing on FX; 50 Cent's got yet another new crime show on Starz; documentary master Ken Burns...returns...with a new doc on Muhammad Ali; Mike Flanagan has another limited horror series lined up at Netflix with Midnight Mass; from the looks of it, Apple is throwing all of their money into Isaac Asimov's Foundation; and finally we have the long awaited adaptation of the modern classic comic book series Y: The Last Man on Hulu! ~ Recent Highlights ~ Blindspotting The White Lotus Ultra City Smiths ~ Future of Work - PBS - 10/9c A.P. Thread Psychonauts 2 is out! What else are we waiting for??
An actual sequel to Beyond Good and Evil is probably my ultimate white whale. 2, which may never even materialize, is a prequel for reasons I'm still not entirely sure about, so the story isn't even set to continue anyway even if it does release. I guess the next one would be Sly 5, just because of the way 4 ended. I'm okay with franchises ending in general (that's life), but when the last game ends on a cliffhanger (like Psychonauts 1 did) then not getting a sequel stings that much more. There are plenty of series that I would love to see a new entry for (Ape Escape!) but they're either not story heavy or they ended rather conclusively, so I'm okay with saying goodbye.

Edit: thinking about it some more, it could actually be a good way to get more fans on board with vr - bring back some beloved ips but make them vr exclusive so they'll feel compelled to buy into the ecosystem. New ips like Astrobot and Blood & Truth might not move as many units comparitively as Wipeout or Sly Cooper . Ngl I really want to try vr and Astrobot looks super neat but I'm not dropping a few hundred just for that. A new Ape Escape tho and I'm there day 1

I watched the first two episodes. They were okay? Very AHS - for better and worse. It's weird to see Murphy and Falchuk start off this new series by retreading familiar AHS beats. Like, they've done so many times before, I don't even think a second episode was needed. I feel like they could have just put the in the first episode, added around 15 minutes to the runtime, and called it a day. Lets hope the rest of the episodes break out of the AHS mold a little more.

I think it could be really neat as well - I'm assuming we won't get anything too crazy or high concept for budgetary reasons, but I'm interested to see what they come up with. I think this could be a cool way for the show to return to fan favorite characters without having to figure out how to (inelegantly) incorporate them into a regular season. It'll also hopefully curb the main show's tendency to go off on random tangents with side characters.

That's true. I was always surprised that they didn't acquire Quantic Dream but now it's maybe for the best that they didn't.I think Sony should have cut RAD some slack - The Order was not only their first console game, but also their first AAA game, and their first game in the tps genre. It's not entirely unexpected that they weren't able to stick the landing 100% when they had such high ambitions.I assume they pitched Lone Echo to Sony before they pitched it to Oculus and Sony rejected it based off of The Order's performance, but I don't know if that's actually what happened. It's one of those things that seems true but maybe isn't...They had their shot (Daxter) and they hit a bullseye, then they had a second shot (GoW: CoO) and they hit another bullseye, then they had a third shot (GoW: GoS) and hit yet another bullseye - 3 strikes and you're in! Honestly, acquisitions aside, the fact that Sony didn't at the very least contract them to do games for the Vita is mind boggling - how do you not get the premiere PSP developer to make games for the PSP 2?! Like, yeah, The Order 1886 was a bit of a misfire, but it was still fun, not to mention technically astounding. Plus they were pretty much premier developer for PSP (Daxter, God of War Chains of Olympus, and God of War Ghost of Sparta) and could have been premiere developer for PSVR, if Lone Echo is anything to go by (I feel like Sony needs a few PSVR exclusive developers if they want it to really take off next time around ).

Thread 'The Walking Dead’ – Season 10 - Sundays on AMC
Some of the details were the same - but other than that it was entirely different. The TV version was much more focused on Negan's relationship with Lucille and the comic was more focused on Negan becoming and how he came to form his cult of personality. I think the show version was more emotionally resonant, but I don't think it would have worked for comic Negan at all. 10.C overall was a big mixed bag for me.: Home Sweet Home was solid and I thought they were setting up a rough overarching storyline that would play out across the 6 episodes with the Reapers, but that didn't happen (maybe for the best as the show doing another "group of crazy bad guys" storyline would feel played out at this point). Find Me was decent, and maybe planted some seeds for the spin off, but I felt like it kind of ripped off John and June's episode from S4 of Fear (and to a lesser extent, reminded me of Dwight and Sherry's situation from a few seasons ago). One More was pretty good and helped flesh Gabe and Aaron out a bit. Splinter gave us some interesting tidbits about Princess and the Commonwealth, but also gave off strong "this was filmed during quarantine and we don't want to advance this storyline in any meaningful way until S11" vibes. Diverged - as much as I like the idea of following the characters through an average day in the post-post apocalypse...I mean that was straight up just a filler episode. Here's Negan was a good showcase for JDM and Hilarie Burton, and provided some nice shading to Negan, but it also didn't really change our perception of him all that much, you know? It did present a very interesting I think that's somewhat misleading - they had a 16 episode season 11 "all mapped out", but then AMC "blindsided them" with news that the show would be ending...with an additional 14 episodes (aka almost an entire season's worth of episodes)? He makes it sound like the rug was pulled out from under them and "oh no what do we do" but S11 is going to be super sized and spread out over 2 years AND the main characters are getting a spin off the following year, so...this is about as good an end as any TV show gets. At any rate, I'm curious to know what their original plans were - there genuinely isn't more than a season's worth of comic material left and even 16 episodes for what they have might be pushing it. Season 10 roughly covered 4 1/2 volumes of the comic (not counting 10.C, which was it's own little thing) and there's only 3 more volumes of the comic left so I guess they were planning on stretching things out quite a bit if they were thinking of possibly doing a full 12th season (and maybe even going beyond that).

Thread 'The Walking Dead’ – Season 10 - Sundays on AMC
I've been saying for years that the main show would most likely end at the same point as the comic. I just didn't see them going beyond that, stretching the show out indefinitely until finally putting it out of its misery in season 39 with only 400 viewers left. There's a little under two full seasons worth of TWD left (the season 10 finale, 6 bonus episodes of S10, and 24 in S11 - that's 31, 1 less than two 16 episode seasons), which is about what I expected once I saw how quickly the show was moving through comic material last year. Still, it's nice to have confirmation and knowing for sure that they're building towards an ending should help the show keep its momentum going. - The Daryl and Carol spin off (with Angela Kang as showrunner!) is interesting. I have to assume that if the show ends where the comic does, - Tales from The Walking Dead. First, I like the name. Second, I much prefer the idea of one anthology series over them doing a variety of self contained miniseries (eg, The Walking Dead: Rise of the T-Dog, The Walking Dead Andrea: The Early Years, etc). Hopefully they don't rely too heavily on established characters though. - Given that we know the end dates for World Beyond and the main show, I'm somewhat surprised they didn't also announce an end for Fear. I doubt we'll be lucky enough for S6 to be its last, and the ratings (even though S6 will naturally be down from S5) will still be good enough to warrant a few more seasons after that, so it'll be interesting to see what they end up doing with it.

Thread 'The Walking Dead’ – Season 10 - Sundays on AMC
- Them clustering the S10 finale together with both World Beyond and Fear S6 is baffling. It would have made far more sense to air Fear S6 this summer and save World Beyond and the 10 finale for the fall. NOS4A2 could have used the Fear boost and I'm sure Soulmates could have benefited from having a World Beyond lead in as well. - Fear adopting more of an anthology structure is...whatever. Structure is the least of that show's problems. - 6 extra episodes for S10 (but not really because episode 16 is still the finale...?) is interesting. I'm curious to know what these episodes are. I seriously doubt they had 6 episodes worth of material on the cutting room floor that they were able to stitch together, so they must be something that they either already filmed (for another project) or are intending to film soon. Given that we already have a good idea of how S10 will end (based on the comics), I'm not sure what they could do for this. Maybe they'll focus on Maggie's journey over the last few years? - We already knew about the possible single character spin off idea (they floated doing one centered on Michonne's journey to find Rick), though I think this is the first time we're hearing that they're looking to set them during the onset of the apocalypse. I'm not a huge fan of the idea. Maybe they could do one following Andrea and her sister? Maybe (don't laugh) T-Dog? I guess they could do one about Negan...I don't know. None of those really seem all that appealing to me. I think the time for following existing or past characters at the beginning of the apocalypse has long since passed. If they're gonna do another "In the beginning..." series, I'd rather they focus on original characters.

Want Jak, Ape Escape, Astrobot, Medievil, and Spyro cameos. Those definitely fit in better with Ratchet's aesthetic than Uncharted or Horizon or whatever.

Thread LGBTQera |ERA1| (We're Queer)
Some in the queer community don't like for those outside of the community to use the word queer due to the history of the word, so be mindful of that. If you're not queer yourself, I think it'd be best to go with LGBTQ or LGBTQIA+ instead when referring to the community.

Thread Pose - Queer ball culture in 80s New York from Ryan Murphy - Sundays on FX (S3 premieres tonight!)
The last few episodes were a bit of a mixed bag for me. I love the cast and enjoyed much of the "victory lap" nature of the final episodes, but it did veer a little too far into "wish fulfillment" territory at times. When the first season started, I pictured the show turning out to be something more akin to It's a Sin (which only just came out this year) but I feel like they decided to go with a significantly more optimistic, Glee-lite direction starting with the second season. Which is fine, because lord knows there are few other shows like Pose around, but I can't help but be a little disappointed in the (perceived) change of direction. I do think they managed to course correct a fair amount in season three, and I ended up liking it way more than the second season, but I still had some issues with it. The biggest issues with S2 were A. that it was filled with erratic characterizations, B. the lack of consequences for any non-death related drama, and C. dropped plot lines. The former was thankfully rectified but the latter two unfortunately persisted. (What happened to Blanca's learning disability? Lemar's feud with the group? etc) I won't count Damon as a dropped character/plot line because of his real life issues - also, he got a shout out in the finale! (and a more fitting end for his character than "he relapsed and moved away") Anyway, sad to see the show go but happy they got 3 seasons to tell their story (even though I feel like it should have been more).

If it's like that then, I wonder if they ever considered making each planet a sort of patchwork - behind the scenes - to make the game run on PS4? Where each time Ratchet "changes dimensions/planets", you're still in the exact same level, it just looks like you've jumped to an entirely new one?

Just watched We Are Lady Parts on Peacock in one go. I thought it was a really enjoyable and breezy binge (6 x 22ish minute episodes). Peacock's got a nice little "Women in music" thing going on with this and Girls5eva. Hope both get renewed.

That first half was just a solid string of rapid fire proper nouns no one had ever heard of or had context for. Oof. It's important to space that kind of stuff out so it's coherent. Rest of the episode was cool though. Btw Claudia Black needs to play the main character in the Returnal movie

Bingo. My conspiracy obsessed mom has recently learned that the flu shot she got years ago (literally in like 2007) is going to kick in any day now and kill her. If you were to get the COVID vaccine and then tell a conspiracy person about it, they'll be like "well sure, you're not dead YET, but any day now...!" There is no statue of limitations for this stuff.

Most of his shows are varying degrees of terrible but he seems to have a better track record with shows that he merely produces/directs on. Unfortunately he's a writer on Halston, so idk it might be good for a while but then turn to shit later on. It's a miniseries though so it's possible that it ends before the terrible sets in (like Feud: Bette and Joan).

Dammit, they only needed one (bit longer) season to cover the final three books. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh why stop short when you're practically at the finish line - this is The Borgias all over again Also, season 5 will be the third season that Netflix has produced all by themselves, so the 3 season curse strikes again!

I get his point about earning another chance after producing one of HBO's biggest hits (they've done that sort of thing in the past, most recently giving Avenue 5 a series order to keep Armando Iannucci happy despite it being absolutely horrendous), but it's still kinda weird to hear him say that openly.

Yeah, they sure liked showing that dead baby a lot...The writing in The Knick was a better kind of decent than Perry Mason's, but still just decent imo. I think so too. Maybe they'll work better within a noir-ish framework though.

Same. If they're gonna keep Grace around then they need to invest in her character and this was a pretty interesting way to do it. The end was a gut punch (and I wasn't even invested in the pregnancy storyline) and an o k a y consequence to Grace's radiation storyline in S5. (though the whole "don't touch the zombies omg they're irradiated!" thing was still just a toothless nonsense threat since nothing happened as a result of it - and if it did it would have to be to Alicia which I wouldn't want anyway, so bleh)
