Thread The Last Kingdom Season 4 |OT| Lord Arselicker | April 26 on netflix
1st season was a BBC America/BBC coproduction, 2nd season was a BBC/Netflix coproduction, seasons 3, 4, & 5 were all Netflix solo productions. So 3 seasons solely produced by Netflix, about in line with their whole "cancel everything but the biggest hits after 3 seasons" thing.

I mean, yeah. It's always one step forward, two steps back with this show (or two steps forward, one step back?). They keep teasing big changes but always revert to the status quo and only slowly inch towards actual progression. It kind of reminds me of Silicon Valley in that respect, but made worse due to the fact that the show is so bleak.

Just finished the Erica/Anna storyline, which is the only one I've been following because I wanted to focus on one storyline at a time (I'll binge the Bria episodes soon). I thought it was just okay -started out fairly strong but got progressively worse. I liked how Erica initially appeared to have her shit together but turned out to be a complete disaster who had no idea what she was doing. I think they were aiming for the opposite arc for Anna, but her becoming super clingy to the point of trying to trap Erica into a relationship with a baby she tricked one of her clients into putting inside of her, and then stalking her after being rejected, kind of ruined it for me. And then there was Erica's cruel, bizarrely cartoonish ex, who added a whole other layer of wtfness to the mix that I wasn't a fan of. Also, I get that it was like a metaphor or something, but it bugged me that literally every room in every building was almost completely empty. I think Kerrigan could have achieved the same effect with a more realistic, yet still minimalist and sterile, set design.

Outcasts' online was crazy good and was my first real foray into online gaming - all those clan tournaments on the Bespin platform...it was cool too because you didn't even have to fight or anything if you didn't want to. A lot of days it was basically just a big 3D chatroom where you could meet and chat with all sorts of people. *wistful sigh*

They could have made it an HBO MAX original...It has McDreamy (a notable celebrity aka HBO's kryptonite) in it, so maybe! Isn't Trooper also doing See as well or is that done for now? There's some kinda automatic vote tally mechanic in the forum software, so I might just ditch my usual manual weighted voting and switch to that next year so I don't have to put more effort into something that so few care about.I highlighted it (I think) twice already - once when it aired in the UK and once when it premiered on AMC+ in the US, so a third time felt redundant!Any possible "Fucks" and nudity will be censored, definitely. Thread Should I buy the can of octopus? (Update: Bought can of octopus) (Update 4: I turned the can of octopus into...takoyaki pancakes?!)
Hello friends! How have you been? As for me, I am back with an exciting update! I have decided to make another dish using the can of octopus! This time I looked to this very thread for inspiration! PogChamp suggested Takoyaki, but unfortunately I wasn't able to wrangle all of the ingredients and I didn't want to buy a takoyaki pan, a single use kitchen tool, for just a one time recipe (how extravagant that would be!). So I decided to attempt a version of takoyaki using ingredients that I could find (most of them, it turns out!) and in a different shape. At first I thought I could make a sort of meatball out of it, but the batter turned out to be too watery so I opted for pancakes instead. This is what happened: First, the recipe I was using as a guideline told me that I needed to buy pickled ginger for the takoyaki. I couldn't find this anywhere, but I searched on the internet and discovered ! All you needed to do was cut the ginger up into stripes, give them a bath in hot water, towel them off, and soak them in ume plum vinegar. Next up, I needed to get some Tenkasu. I didn't know what that is but I recognized the crispy bits - I've seen them before at the bottom of the pan when I cooked something deep fried! I didn't have any leftover from the last time I deep fried something, so I had to make some just for this project. I did this by getting some panko and mixing it with egg and a little salt. Then I crumbled it up and dry fried it in a tiny bit of garlic oil. They turned out very crispy! The pieces might look big but they were not. Now was the time to open up the can of octopus. I had two cans of octopus to open this time and I steeled myself against the possibility of there being no tentacles. I still smarted from the last time when there were none, you see. To my great surprise, however, both cans of octopus contained several tentacles each! My dream came true! All chopped Here is the baby tentacle Now I needed to chop the green onions up into pieces I decided to cut the pickled ginger up too Then all I needed to do was make the batter. I couldn't find any takoyaki flour but from pictures I've seen, takoyaki look fluffy so I thought I could use pancake mix as a substitute! This kind of mix is very good at making things fluffy so I knew it would be perfect. The box of pancake mix said "use milk" but the recipe for the takoyaki said to use dashi broth, so I decided to try and make some of that myself. I didn't have kombu seaweed, but I had a nori snack pack so I used that instead. I soaked the nori snacks in water and boiled it for a bit. Then I added some bonito flakes. After some time, dashi was born! This is the pancake batter Once all mixed up, it was time to cook. I cooked each takoyaki pancake in garlic oil for some extra flavor. (Pancakes are usually cooked in butter but I felt that would be inappropriate this time.) All done! It wasn't until the takoyaki pancakes were done that I realized I didn't have any dressing for them! I frantically looked online and learned that this food is traditionally eaten with takoyaki sauce and Kewpie mayonnaise. I didn't know about takoyaki sauce and I don't like mayonnaise, so I opted for sriracha sauce instead. But first, I wanted to taste one plain. I wasn't following a recipe, exactly, so I kind of just eyeballed all of the ingredients as I went. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in an uneven taste. (Next time: leave it to the professionals!) I think maybe it could have used a bit more pickled ginger but all in all it was pretty okay! I think I will eat the rest with sriracha sauce though! I drew a tentacle for this guy. Release the Kraken! They tasted better than before, so I was satisfied. But because these are pancakes, I decided to eat just one bite with maple syrup. Wow! Then I put some sriracha sauce on the pancake and covered it in maple syrup It tasted so good I couldn't believe it! The flavors complimented each other so well! Sweet and spicy; there's some umami too! All of the tastes were represented and married the takoyaki ingredients in a delightful ceremony in my mouth. And they all lived happily ever after~

I have tasted the octopus meat! The first thing that struck me was the texture - it was very meaty and not rubbery or soft at all! I expected rubbery due to my calamitous affair with the breaded calamari rings that fateful day, but this felt like I was eating what I image steak to be like. The taste was mellow and not particularly vibrant. I tasted mainly the spices (ground Thai chili peppers being my spice of choice for this particular excursion) and only detected a hint of seafood flavor in there. I guess if I had to say, I would tell you that it tasted like octopus! There is really no other way to describe it. It certainly didn't taste like any fish I ever had before!

It turns out that the picture on the box was a fabrication - they alluded to the can having at least 50% octopus tentacles inside but as you can plainly see, there isn't a single one! The can is entirely comprised of nondescript chunks of octopus meat. This isn't what I was promised. Anyway, I will now describe the smell for you: mildly pungent seafood smell, not dissimilar to canned sardines! (a treat when paired with a slice of avocado and some lemon juice) The canned octopus smell isn't as strong as the canned sardine smell, however. One aspect that the packaging relayed beautifully: the color of the canned octopus! It is indeed that purple in real life. Stunning.

I think it's safe to say that the rumor of him scrapping the (almost) entirely written The Winds of Winter in 2015 and starting over from scratch in 2018 was true. Because with the pages that were pulled from A Dance with Dragons and the "hundreds and hundreds" of pages he wrote in 2020, there shouldn't still be hundreds of pages left to write unless something catastrophic happened.

I am not so proud that I can't admit my disappointment, but at the same time I'm just thankful to have as many responses as I did! Anyway, onto the good news! Thread Should I buy the can of octopus?
I would like to take a moment to respond to all of my friendsI live in a small place and do not have access to special markets like the one you describe. No, can you believe it?Please tell me how to cook it!I believe it is coated in an oil so I think that would be quite messy! As you might have gathered, I wasn't on the lookout for octopus - I happened upon some while searching for SPAM - so that's why I didn't go into the frozen section. (SPAM isn't found there to my knowledge!)These ones are coated in an oil. I wonder which is more common, do you think?I've never been to (or even seen) a fish market before but I would very much like to explore one someday!

Thread Should I buy the can of octopus?
Once upon a dream I was perusing an isle at Safeway for some SPAM when I chanced upon a can of octopus! (it was situated right near the SPAM, which is really what I was after, you see) I was surprised to find this treasure but I reasoned that people are canning everything these days so it really wasn't all that unusual after all. The packaging was very attractive, decorated with little red tentacles on the front, but my last incursion with Cephalopoda (frozen breaded calamari, to be specific!) left me despondent. In the end I walked away empty handed (to my dismay, they were also out of SPAM. I chalked it up to COVID-19 related food rationing but also cautioned myself against making a definitive assumption one way or the other). On the way home, I kicked myself for not taking the plunge and ever since then, my mind has been consumed by this can of octopus! What must the flavor be like? Is it rubbery or soft? How many tentacles are in each can? I googled all of these questions but found no answers. So I'm thinking that I should buy this can of octopus to find out for myself! But I have an eerie feeling so I thought I would ask for feedback.

I wouldn't say that their Top 10 means nothing, but I also don't think their US Top 10, which I believe is all US subscribers can view, paints the full picture. 'Away' might have done well enough in the US, but could have bombed most everywhere else. Given its presumed limited appeal on the global stage, they probably couldn't justify the cost to keep it around just for US audiences. International markets are absolutely huge for Netflix and going forward they'll probably dictate most of what sticks around long term barring the rare US centric phenom (like if Stranger Things hit the zeitgeist in the US but didn't do well outside the US, I'd expect Netflix to keep it around anyway).

Obi-Wan Kenobi is a prequel reunion, so that's cool. 8/10 hype. Ahsoka! If they can find a good action director, then :0. 10/10 hype. Andor is something that I'll watch, but I don't really care about anything to do with Rogue One. 5/10 hype. Visions - animated anthologies are usually a mixed bag. Idk what this is? 5/10 hype. Rogue Squadron could be really special given Patty's family history of fighter pilots. Post IX is also aces. 9/10 hype. Untitled Taika Waititi Film. Taika's schtick can be obnoxious so idk. 6/10 hype. A Droid Story will depend on what kind of Droid it is. If it's like Chopper or BB-8, then 8/10 hype. If it's like WAC-47 then 2/10 hype.

I'm honestly enjoying it way more than Clone Wars - I think because the cast is the same every episode so you build up more of a bond with them. (Zeb is the best, Chopper is an asshole, Hera had a French accent for a minute???, Rex is dad, Kanan and Sabine are fine, Ezra thankfully isn't as douchey as he looks!) Thread I want to watch The Clone Wars but I don't want to watch the bad episodes, what do I do.
I finished the series last night~ The show definitely improved as it went on, though not to the degree that I fully understand the rabidity of the fanbase. It goes to some dark places, but it's still very much a kid's show ("the movies are for kids too" blahblah) with character development and plotting nowhere near as strong as I'd have liked. Like, take the final arc of S5 Anakin's turn in RotS also just doesn't mesh with his portrayal in Clone Wars (even factoring in the Utapau arc where he does some questionable things). In the final arc, Clone Wars Anakin goes off screen for 3 episodes and then he's suddenly Darth Vader at the end. I thought they'd have better merged the two Anakins (show and movies) by the end, but it was still super jarring. And the fact that Anyway, I don't want to seem too down on the show, as I did enjoy quite a bit of it. My favorite arcs were easily the ones involving the clone troopers - Cadets, Kamino, Umbara, Clone Conspiracy, and Bad Batch. I skipped over a lot of the stuff people said was bad (most of the Jar-Jar and Droid arcs) so I'd say my least favorite arcs were the ones involving Padme. Special shoutout goes to Gungi and Byph - where's their spin off. 7 = 5 > 4 > 6> 2 > 3 > 1

Thread First time using Facebook Marketplace. Selling a car, just got a few messages.. Are these real people or bots?
Yeah, if you sell on FB Marketplace, be prepared for lots of "Is this still available?" messages and then never getting a response back. I think people just hit the auto-respond button accidentally and then are too awkward/shitty to respond beyond that.

Thread 2020-21 Season TV Cancellations/Pilots: Disconnected, Castle Rock Crumbles
Showtime literally told the showrunner (Scott Buck?) not to kill Dexter off in S8, so they were always planning on bringing the show back at some point. In the age of reboots and revivals, bringing one of their most successful shows back seems like a no brainer. The question is whether people will have forgiven the show of all its ills after 8 years... (also, I was just reminded how weird it is that the Weeds revival is set up at Starz and not Showtime)

I honestly didn't recognize Temeura either, despite knowing who he is and the whole Jango/Boba/Clones connection. He looked way too different from when we saw him last. It wasn't until I saw his name in the credits that I was like "OOHHH"

This is good advice for the series as well, which constantly gets bogged down in hard to parse sociopolitical technobabble. Even just reading the basic premise of the episode (and not necessarily how it resolves) can help a lot.

Thread I want to watch The Clone Wars but I don't want to watch the bad episodes, what do I do.
Thanks for your input everyone! I think I will follow TDLink's guide because some of those early Clone Wars episodes were rough AF and turned me off the series for several years. I figure if I really like the show I can just go back and watch the 12 episodes that the guide recommends skipping.Yeah, I watched through S5 earlier this year. I always intended to watch the rest of Clone Wars but I wanted to wait until S7 was out but then I decided to just wait for Mando S2 because I didn't want to pay for Disney+ just for 2 seasons of Clone Wars.

So with Mando S2 coming up I'm gonna try and fit in Clone Wars S6 and S7 and maybe Rebels too before my 3 month sub expires. Is there a watchlist for Rebels or do I have to watch the whole thing

Thread Archer Season 11 |OT| He's out of the coma. You can come back now
Season felt pretty inessential but was still significantly better than any of the coma seasons. I don't like how the show reverted back to the old dynamic so quickly - I think there was at least a season's worth of material to mine from the new post-coma normal - but at least this season didn't bore me to tears.

I'm fine with all the mysteries, as long as they don't keep piling up without getting answered. Season 2 could stand to pick up the pace a bit too. Other than that I thought the show was fine. I appreciated the weirdness of the finale and look forward to more craziness in S2.

The season premiered to pretty strong L+SD ratings (see OP) - higher than any episode in 5.B and just about on par with the finale of 5.A. That kind of ratings hold is honestly really impressive in this day and age!
