That is the metric MVP voting SHOULD be measured by, but never has been. CP3 joined Phoenix last year and they shot to the stratosphere, yet did he ended up 5th in MVP voting. Being a force multiplier isn't valued as much as how many times you go for 30ppg, get triple doubles, or hit 3s from the logo.

Watching the NBA media discourse is frustrating at times. When it comes to considering a person for MVP, they seem to have mental blocks on including players who aren't already considered stratosphere level superstars. To provide context, this post was triggered by Richard Jefferson saying he doesn't even have Ja or Demar in his considerations for MVP. At least Kendrick was on his head for saying it. People kill KP but he knows the game.

Divinity OS2 had a magic no other CRPG has given me, and I've played them. Larian adds the immersive sim, Deus Ex like qualities which allow you to just stumble upon your own solutions and innovations to a given scenario. It's clever sleight of hand that tricks you into semi-believing the world is a sandbox. Other games feel sort of rigid after OS2 for me. Go to quest marker, complete task, click on dialogue choices, done. That's cool with well-written games but that openness of OS2 makes the game so much more fun.

The NFL has strict protocols on these things for player safety. If he was hurt, they would have told him to go see the medical staff. The only logical explanation is that he refused to play AND refused to go medical. Here is my hypothetical take on how it went down: Coaches: Go play AB: Can't, I'm hurt C: Oh? Thread PC Gaming ERA | January 2022 - I Don't Know About You, But I'm Feeling 2022
Started 40K: Space Marine. Man, the pre-DOW3 Relic Entertainment team had so much respect and understanding for the Warhammer 40K lore, and how that translated to gameplay. I was stuck on an encounter where you have to hold out against constant waves of Orks, tried it at least 10 times. What was awesome was that I started doing better the more aggressively I played, instead of turtling by the elevator waiting for it to come. My issue was that I got panicky because you can have a dozen orks surrounding you, and you can't see them which was making me run around when things got hectic. Long story short, I found an FOV mod that changed the game from the default 35 (wtf?) to an FOV of 80, and after installing I beat this supposedly difficult encounter on the first try. Being able to see what was around me was completely changed the way I fought and made it significantly more accessible. PC gaming is just great like that.

I'm not excusing the bullshit, I'm saying the NFL makes billions and should be running its own school that trains and grows its own full-time employee refs from the ground up. The NFL accepts the good with the bad because it's the cheaper option, which is baffling from a 6+ billion empire. It's the purely capitalistic decision. Profits over product.

Star Citizen right now is about "emergent gameplay", creating your own fun in the sandbox. It's cool because there are so few Sci-Fi sandboxes (Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, and...) out there, and none with the fidelity and system depth (janky as it can be) of SC. But I need an actual goal. I still check in every once in a while, well at least I did when I had an RTX 2080. I guess I should launch it with this 3050 Ti just to see how it goes. I've only put in $40 so I have nothing to lose at this point, besides more time.As someone who backed the game on the promise of the new age Wing Commander, I completely feel your frustrations. Chris completely lost himself in promising the universe with this multiplayer game. It's crazy because mismanagement is literally what previously got him kicked out of having a lead position in the video game industry. How does he come back decades later and create this monstrosity of a production? People who call this a scam are stupid and move the discussion nowhere, when this is a monumental lesson in the head of a studio being out of control and there being no one who can tell them they are fucking up.

What kind of scam supports the payroll of nearly a thousand developers? They are burning through the money being brought in as fast as they make it. Tens of millions of dollars a year in payroll. They also have outside investors who are for sure seeing detailed financial reports. Unless they are cooking the books Chris and his wife aren't taking all of the money for themselves. In light of all that, yeah calling it a scam when it's so obviously a game in active development hell is kinda dumb.

Smurfing = Creating a fresh account to play with lower skilled players. Throwing = Losing on purpose to lower rank to play with lower skilled players. OP was not doing either of these by their report. The matchmaker should have weighted the game to make his lower skilled friend play in the higher ranks, not throw the OP into the shallow end of the pool. The matchmaker failed and punished them, the system is clearly broken.

That's a good theory actually. A team he rolled could've gotten salty and false reported. How many reports does it take to get banned in Halo? Or what if they just looked up his rank and reported him for being in their game, but again, that would be the matchmaker's fault, not his.

Unless he was ever an elite boxing prospect, the age and inexperience will negate all of that. Granted, 30-50lbs may help him survive such a short fight. The overarching point is that Jake would never be in danger past x+1 minutes of the first round. Kendall sure is popping off for a guy who, in his four pro fights, fought one guy with a single win to his name. With said four opponents ending their careers with a combined record of 5-25-0, I'm honestly not sure he's fought a "real" boxer either.

The Alder Lake laptops are being announced at CES in a couple weeks. I guarantee that LG laptop is actually 12th-gen AND using one of the new Nvidia GPUs but they just can't say yet because of the NDAs. These early reveals pre-CES with placeholder parts are extremely common. The CPU specs have already leaked. The power level of the current laptops is still best suited for 1080p, especially if people plan to keep them for 4+ years. It's not as if 1080p doesn't look incredibly sharp at the PPI on a 15.6" or 17.3" diaplay, that hasn't suddenly changed. Someone like me who upgrades every 2 years should go 1440p but I wouldn't recommend it for most others. Having to game below native res when the GPU become outclassed by the GPU workload is a nightmare scenario, which is why I caution people on the Lenovos and their 2560x1500 displays. I do consider him that good though, he just needs to complete that anime arc. And sure, I'll let Allen and Carr into the club. Wentz is on the edge, he's going to need a playoff run to get back in for me. I almost feel like the talent levels at the skilled positions are advancing faster than the QB pool can keep up. Special QBs don't come around often enough and "average" is starting to not be good enough to overcome what is coming after you on every play. Professional sports are wild. 32 starting QBs out of the tens of thousands of people dreaming of having those jobs, and even then not even all of those 32 do we even consider deserving of their positions. When you really stop and put it in perspective this shit is fucking insane. That's why I see sports as anime, it's unreal. These athletes are chosen ones.

And calling it "white savior complex" is like saying you prefer the apathetic white moderate who stands by and says and does nothing. What does that accomplish? Do we want allies or not? Finally, we are free to disagree. We're free to respond with whatever emotions we want without crossing lines. The white creators behind the black character showing their asses completely kills it for me. It doesn't for you? Cool. But what happens when that "young Black woman" out there find out what this game's creators actually think of her? It's bigger than simply having a Black face on the screen, isn't it? You point out Miles, but the story behind the realization we see on the screen is what makes people feel that warmth in their hearts, because he came from a genuine place of respecting the culture. Sure, some Black people will actually relate to the background they've drawn up for Frey. Where is it coming from though? I've been incarcerated too fam, life is what it is. I'm just asking you to ponder the eternal question of why they can't write us in without hitting at least two or three of the most basic racial stereotypes on the bingo board. I am super stingy and petty on the superstar classification. AD definitely doesn't make the cut. I'd list KD, Steph, Giannis, healthy Kawhi, LeBron, Dame, Jimmy, CP3, Luka. That's it. Those are the only guys who can impose their wills and do whatever they want to because they have to do it, or at least convince the guys around them that they are going to do jobs and it's no big deal. There are a dozen or more guys I'd give the 'star' label. Those are the guys who have a big night when the astrology aligns, and you wonder why they don't just do it every fucking night. Tatum, AD. I can't look at them and say "I need 40 tonight" and know they'll just get it because we'll lose if they don't. The troops don't believe they are built like that either, so they can't lead. I also consume the NBA like it's the longest running anime series in history after Case Closed, so maybe my opinion doesn't matter. But a Superstar to me is a guy who understands the gravity of the moment, the story to be written, and he says "okay". Perfect example: If you go back to last year's Playoff thread, before Bucks vs Nets Game 5, I said something like, "KD should know he has to drop 40 tonight, no excuses." The man turned into a demon and dropped 49 in one of the greatest offensive showcases of all time, for the win. That's the anime aura shit I love about the NBA. I don't put him on my list yet but hell, Luka came bleeding the aura. It's unmistakable. AD ain't got it. The man is supposed to be taking the reins of the Lakers franchise and he is shrinking. It's like he doesn't see the threads of the narrative. He can't ascend.

The Nets are considered impossible to beat with Kyrie and Harden at the SG and PG positions, do you see how this takes validity away from your assertion that CJ is some defensive crisis? Calling CJ McCollum a Jordan Clarkson tier player really makes me question your position here. You serious?

That's all I was asking. It's like how Netflix recently released the popularity lists but did two of them, and one was based on how many minutes of the movie/series people actually watched, which completely flipped the other vague "top 10" on its head and even had entries which weren't on the main chart. Those are real metrics. No need for people to get in their feelings and start throwing around the tired accusations of bias and downplaying.

I believe the last one he had was either the 1989 or 1993 release. He's an avid pilot and with the pandemic I think it'd be great for him to go down the rabbit hole of a home setup.Does that stat provide metrics on time played? For real, like, it isn't victim blaming to know "it is what it is". I got stopped on the regular for drug dealer suspicions just for having a luxury brand car. I would never IN MY LIFE roll around with $100k in the trunk, because black people simply don't have such liberties in America. It could just be the wrong day with the wrong cop. He "smells an odor" and calls for the dog which alerts on my trunk then I have to explain having El Chapo money in the tuck. No one should have to go through this, but until American policing goes through major changes, the smartest thing you can do when transporting money is to NOT transport heavy cash, unless it is directly from a bank to a destination, or vice versa, and it is in one of those official bank bags with as much official documentation on the transaction as possible. Across state lines? Wire that shit, it's not worth the risk. Cops love pulling over people with out of state plates just to fuck with them and manufacture reasons to search the car. What the cop did in this video was textbook fishing for approval to search, and my guy just fell into the trap. He let the cop fool him into being his friend, big mistake. Look at how fast he switched up when he said he did has the money. All business after that.

You also have to be naive as fuck, or just straight up stupid, to tell a cop you have $80k in cash in freaking Ziploc in your trunk. Damn dude at least carry it in a brief case for the optics. Of course, he shouldn't , but non-black people always get a rude awakening when they find out you actually need to plan ahead for random police stops. If they pulled my black self over with $80k in a Zip, they'd have skipped straight to handing me the pink receipt and no lawyer would be getting that returned. The issue is, the entire league including the Sixers also knows that there is a version of Ben Simmions, , who you wouldn't trade for ANYONE in the league not named KD, Steph, Giannis, or uh who is left? Keep it a buck, Ben Simmons with the mental illness at a managed level is a fucking Kuroko's Basketball character. From Philly's perspective, they simply cannot give him away for peanuts, then have the other team get him in therapy which unlocks the latent superstar talent. So, it's kinda sad? To see a guy's future being gambled on his mental illness? Or do we as pleebs judge it as, he's getting paid too much to not go to the team mandated therapy? My focus is on the value of the 7 fundamental knives in the set. Having brand name steak knives to impress guests is subjective. Listen I may be an old school, jaded cook who sees expensive singular knives and gets confused, but go ahead and buy whatever helps you unlock your aura. I've slept on it and decided I just don't feel it necessary to be that overbearing guy preaching "it's the quality of the cook not the tool" principles. I just bought a pair of headphones with a price that would make some people react way more explosively than I do to this knife discussion, it's all relative. $200 for one knife is absolutely a rip off and buying into marketing. You can buy an entire 15 piece block of forged German knifes which will lasts decades for less than that. I'm a chef and just chuckle at how basic consumers get conned in the knife game. Can you properly julienne a potato? Batonnet a carrot? Brunoise an onion? The knife matters less. All you need is "sharp", which is easy to maintain.

Thread I bought a $200 Japanese Chef Knife because of a YouTube video. Am I a stupid consumerist whore?
At home I have a basic Henkel set which was purchased probably 16 years ago. Besides running them across the steel, they've been sharpened maybe twice and are still razor sharp. Learning how to cut is probably the most overlooked step in knife maintenance at home. Most people chop through with weight (cue loud cutting board sounds) instead of letting sharpness and gravity do all of the work, which greatly increases the degradation of the knife's edge. Not acknowledging the diminishing returns within the pricing of knives is folly. The $200 knife is not 4x or even 2x better than the well-made $50 knife. Most importantly, as my mentor would ask, does it translate to the plate?Sorry, I can't imagine. The Chef or Santoku knife is not an all-arounder.

They really should. I have the RTX 3050 Ti 4GB in a cheap ASUS laptop I bought to get me by until the RTX 40 series drops. The raw performance is pretty damn impressive (pretty much on par with the 1660 Ti), but the VRAM limitation sucks. Nvidia would really have winners if they beef up the VRAM for the desktop releases. This is 50% faster than the 1650, with 8GB VRAM it's a legit generational leap.

The 3050 Ti is 128-bit with 192 GB/s bandwidth. I wonder why the 6500 XT with so hampered. AMD and Nvidia not releasing these cards with 8GB VRAM is really such a shame. Even at 1080p 4GB VRAM is not going to be sufficient when the AAA new-gen exclusives start rolling out.Because there is a huge market for people who can only afford low-end GPUs.

But why? These consoles have the strength of 2018 GPUs, do you really think that is going to stand for an entire ~7 year generation, when PCs will have 3x faster parts in 2022-2023? The current consoles are not strong enough, just because they started off with better CPUs than they did in the previous generation. If people want 60/120fps at 1440p+ to continue to be an option, they'll need more powerful consoles.

Thread The chance of a mid-gen refresh for consoles
The PS4 Pro and X1X used the same crippled Jaguar CPU as the base consoles, yet they still upgraded them to keep up with GPU power demands. That same exact thing will happen again, because high resolution gaming is only going to get more expensive, and the current GPU hardware in the consoles is not going to keep up with the combined demand for resolution, fidelity, and the new found love within the console gaming consumers for >30fps gaming. Nothing you are saying goes against this. Mind, I'm not in the camp who feels they will rush to do it, but I say it will be done with absolute certainty.

If you don't clean out the fans/vents and maybe even replace the thermal paste every year or so, that it where the reputation of degrading performance kicks into reality, when they start overheating. But dude, if you were Baker, would you hold out with Case Keenum sitting behind you? The Browns sure looked okay that game where he had to fill in when Bake had to sit out. How is Baker "solid" though? The team has to be perfectly constructed just for him to look decent. If our best running backs miss a game and the defense has an off day, he gets exposed as a completely mediocre QB who can't move the ball on the merit of his arm and decision making. You can't point out a single game where Baker has brought victory on the strength of his own throwing. Look at these plays Mac Jones is making here in this game. It further exemplifies what Baker simply cannot do. He can't push the ball down the field with his throws. How does that not make him anything but a garbage QB? Baker can't put up 21 points with his arm. This game is over and we all know it.

There are multiple facets to this scenario. DLSS is indeed a huge boon for mobile GPUs, and helps extend the life of laptops significantly. 1660 Ti vs 3050 Ti is weird because they have about the same raw performance level, until the latter's 4GB VRAM becomes an issue. In a current-gen/cross-gen game where you can avoid the limitation by not running everything on Ultra, and it has DLSS, the 3050 Ti would have a significant performance advantage. The bottom line is though, we aren't in the PS4/XB1 generation anymore, so it is simply smarter to take the 6GB VRAM card, RTX features be damned. It's guaranteed that minimum requirements start asking for a minimum of 6GB VRAM, so you'd be setting yourself up for failure with a 4GB VRAM GPU. There is also the matter of how long you plan to keep the laptop. What is your answer here?

That's the thing; the 3080s and higher level CPUs (especially the unlocked Intel CPUs) come at such premiums that consumers are better off pocketing the grand and putting it toward the next generation that comes out in 2023. The RTX 4060 is expected to be as fast as the mobile 4080, with the gains from the shrink to 5nm. This is why I have always recommended a $2k-$2.2k spending limit on gaming laptops. Once you get near and past $3k, you will never see the added benefit before the faster generation comes out, which is every 2 years. That $2.2k ceiling is more like $2.5k in the market we have right now, but the principle applies. $1k would need a 40-60% advantage for it to even be considered in my view. This is why I bought a struggle 3050 Ti laptop to have for the next year and a half, when my RTX 2080 MSI laptop unexpectedly shit the bed. Well, the actual truth is I was salty as fuck because my 2080 was the same speed as the 3070 laptops so I couldn't stomach spending that much for a sidegrade. So I bought the cheapest laptop available brand new with an RTX GPU and a 6-core CPU (ASUS TUF F17 for $799), and I'm going to save up and target an RTX 4070 laptop when they get announced at CES 2023. You should see what happens when you activate Ray-Tracing in the wrong area on a 3050 Ti, it's hilarious. Instant single digit slideshow lmao. And that was playing The Ascent, with DLSS active. This is the lowest end GPU I've had for a long time, relatively. I've always had the second or first fastest GPU in ever mobile laptop generation. The shock is real.

The PC gamers around here are pretty realistic about the platform. I got into gaming laptops in 2005 and just loved the tinkering aspect. Changing RAM, processors, GPUs, buying engineering samples of non-official CPUs from China on eBay... it was real Wild West stuff back then. This is just not the kind of thing the average "gamer" wants to do to enjoy games. It's a completely different aspect of being into technology that makes everything tick. I was a chef at the time btw, I'm not even in tech as an educational field, it's just cool to me. PC gaming is FAR simpler and has less speed bumps than even 5 years ago but even as a recent example Deathloop unfortunately released with the mouse movement fucked up, which Digital Foundry covered in depth, which brought attention and got it fixed faster. Console gaming just doesn't deal with that stuff. Often PC gaming is "The Definitive Version***" of every game. ***ahem, But not on release day because it launched with some issue the devs didn't catch, so it's either community to the rescue (Special K, Durante, PCGamingWiki, Random Reddit Hero #1999, etc) or you wait for the devs to hopefully maybe figure it out within 6 months.*** (this is not a shot at developers, just giving a blanket reality statement on how the PC platform being so diverse can allow small launch issues to slip through than on the closed environments of console) *cough* Wait where was I? Oh right, like I said, not everyone can be about this life. I've always been pretty certain that Microsoft and Sony understand that the consoles should not fly to close to the sun on becoming "PC-like", lest they draw too many comparison and as 'inferior PCs' a few years after they release. It just wouldn't be smart. It's way more cunning to go ahead and release your games on PC, to retain your customers in one base, expand in another, with the understanding that there will be minimal loss in the overlap.

Some people are already at their limit at choosing between Quality and Performance. This is before we even back all the way up to THE DOOR, close and bar it shut, to talk about the entry level problems of PC component selection paralysis, the prices of said parts vs console gaming, and building the damn PCs to begin with.... like who the fuck leaves all of that out of the discussion? No, the downgrade is not worth it. Not only do you lose 25%-35% of the power, but the drop to 4GB VRAM means you are fucked when games go new-generation only and ask for 6GB as the minimum. That would be a very shortsighted decision, especially since you have RTX 3060 budget.

It appears the chain for gun checks was Gutierrez-Reed -> Hall and they royally fucked it up. Neither of them checked the guns before she put them on that cart, then Hall just grabbed one and handed it over, again without checking the chambers for rounds.

No, it's okay. At the time we didn't even know the union workers had even been on site and had walked off. I made that comment flippantly, thinking they may have been possibly positioning the tragedy as an opportunity to see their strike demands met. That was due to the email that leaked before the police investigation had even completed, but even the terminology used within that ended up being taken out of context by the news reporters, which the union later clarified. Then shortly after we found out the union had been there and walked off the set because of working condition, how unsafe things had been, and how the whole shitty tragedy could have been avoided. So yeah I don't blame you, it's my fault really.

I was never at the union. My initial take between a couple of posts was simply that if they were using the situation as propaganda it was a bad look, but that was when it was only being reported they had walked off over pay disputes. If it's now come out that the set was known to be operating under unsafe conditions, that changes the judgment of things for all parties involved, including Alec since this was happening under his production company. This additional reporting you've posted is providing much needed context to the initial story about the email, which even at the time I had suggested not taking at face value because it was only an internal email. Seems things on site were very fucked up and Alec has a lot to answer to regarding this tragedy.

The 4GB VRAM is a legitimate limitation, at least it will be in the near future. New-gen exclusives will be asking for 6GB or 8GB even at 1080p. That's before you touch on the raster performance, sure it's 50-60% faster than the GTX 1650 which is a massive uplift, but it's still decidedly a lower-mid range performer even in today's game. It really comes down to what you can afford. If your budget literally hard caps out at the 3050 Ti range, then by all means it is a much better choice than the 1650, but if you can actually spend what the 3060 or 3070 machines ask there is no reason to even consider the 3050s.

That goes beyond "opposing views or dissenting opinions" and is the shutting down of minority voices. Coming in to drop your "well actually he meant x, why can't you see that" is being dismissive. Can you see the difference? Where is there critical thinking "hive mind/echo chamber/yes-men mentality" involved in any of that? This isn't the thread for relitigating bans so I'll drop it from here, but it's pretty telling that your examples had nothing to do with following the "opinions" of the threads within they happened. Just don't be an asshole.

Thread ResetEra Ownership Update
You are the one painting the board as some echo chamber where just disagreeing on a topic will get you banned. Give me an example which falls outside of those topics I listed where, when you could cop a ban simply for having a different opinion. The TOS is what it is. People disagree civilly all day. You literally can't just disagree with someone on some mundane topic and get banned, that is utter bullshit.

Thread "Gender-swapping in videogames" or why people choose to play the opposite sex
I've never been able to see the characters I create as representing myself, instead I am a person who is helping the character I create live their best life. I usually choose a woman, a Black woman specifically, because I rarely get to see them in big budget leading roles where the fate of existence is on the line. That's awesome to me, leading a badass, strong Black woman to greatness. Not being the avatar allows me more freedom in creating a story for my characters. Like my Female Shepard in Mass Effect. Instead of going for the super young woman I designed one who looks mid-late 30s. She's seen some shit and is on her last good run before hanging up field work.

Thread TRON, one of the largest blockchain-based operating systems in the world is partnering with Sony Interactive Entertainment
Given that neither Sony nor Tron seem to be announcing this, and that the source is being questioned as authentic in crypto circles, we are locking the thread. Fell free to create a new thread if an official announcement is made through a reliable source.

Thread you ever look at the nutrition label and think to yourself, wtf is up with all that sugar and salt in this thing?
Last week I randomly bought a case of Hard Cider from the grocery store as I'd never tried it, and upon delivery I was super disappointed to see each bottle had like 25g of sugar. I was expecting it to be about as much as a beer, totally ruined the experience for me.

Thread Is it common for servers in the US to complain to customers about tip amount?
I've never once had a server comment on a tip, positively or negatively. Not even when I left $0.
