Thread Oscar-Nominated ‘Umbrella Academy’ Star Elliot Page Announces He Is Transgender
This should go without saying but...... this is exactly the kind of logic that's used as justifications for harassing trans folks. Trans people have a right to privacy, especially regarding medical issues. Things like our deadnames? Our medical status and history? Any surgeries we've had done? And so on? That's up to us if we want to share, and us. If Eliot wants to share, he'll chose to do so on his own terms. You have a right to know. Period.

Thread Cyberpunk 2077 |OT| Welcome to Night City (READ THE OP BEFORE YOU POST)
CD Projekt Red has a history of transphobia. at this point and not a matter of debate. Due to this context there is particular concern about transphobic or insensitive content in Cyberpunk 2077 itself, such as the decision to in the character creator, and trans fetishization in illustrations in the game—and these are just examples from prerelease footage. Additionally, there have been concerns about racist imagery and stereotyping. goes into depth about some of these issues. This list will be updated over time as more examples come to light, especially as the game releases and more content is uncovered. If you wish to have something added to this list, please send me a DM and get my attention. There has been a lot of discussion about whether there should even be an official thread for Cyberpunk 2077, and many points of view were considered for this decision. Ultimately, a thread like this can serve as a platform for minority concerns to be aired and discussed respectfully, and given appropriate attention. We’ve also heard from minority members, including some trans members, who have asked for a space where they can talk about the game without needing to worry about trolling and bigoted posting. We expect all posters in the thread to extend the consideration and empathy to give them that space. We will be moderating as strictly as necessary to make sure they do. Transphobia exists in many aspects of our lives. From casual discrimination such as the continuous misuse of a person's preferred pronouns, to more serious ramifications such as housing being denied, legal rights being taken away, and being discriminated in the legal system. Every trans person either has experienced transphobia in their lives, or will experience transphobia at some point. Moreover, transphobia is a systematic issue that is present in every level of our society. Politicians fight to take away our rights. Celebrities use coded language and religious justifications, if not outright hostility, in order to continue to deny our existence. Media continues to portray us as the butt of a joke, or acts like we're something to be fascinated by, rather than treated with respect. Actions speak louder than words: Become active in your local politics, donate to transgender causes, stand up for these issues wherever they arise, and if you know transgender people in your life be there for them and support them.We are your friends. We are your family members. We're your coworkers. We're the people you meet on the street. We're the essential workers who keep society running in a pandemic. We're everywhere. We're not some sort of freak or joke, and we're not going away. I want to give major thanks to for lending her talent, time, and effort in putting together graphics and material for this official thread. Without her, this would not have been possible on such short notice. I would also like to give a shout out and thanks to for allowing me to use images and links from her own thread for this posts.

Thread Cyberpunk 2077 |OT| Welcome to Night City (READ THE OP BEFORE YOU POST)
This game is highly controversial for reasons as well as within the opening post. A significant part the discussion in this thread is likely to revolve around CDPR's transphobia and transphobia in the game itself. That discussion must be given space here; Ignore these following guidelines at your own risk:This OT will consolidate topics like review metascores to cut down the number of threads on the game. Any thread about Cyberpunk 2077 beyond this one must be exceptionally newsworthy or have practical value. If you're uncertain as to if a thread should be made, please consult a mod captain before making that thread.

Thread [November 28] AP: Biden plans swift moves to protect and advance LGBTQ rights
Aint that the truth. Lots of people just don't get how easily stuff can be taken away by groups that These protections are essential, especially for us trans folks. One day, hopefully, if any of my descendants are trans, they won't have to face the level of discrimination I faced. They won't get turned down from a job because of their name. They won't be discriminated against because of their voice. They won't be denied basic legal rights and protections that others enjoy just because of bullcrap religious and sexist arguments made against them.

Thread The Queen's Gambit: Is Beth Harmon on the autism spectrum?
As an autistic woman myself, yeah, I definitely get the impression that she's on the autistic spectrum. I just finished the series myself, so I'll try to keep this brief and as spoiler free as possible. Over the course of the miniseries, she displays a number of autistic coded traits, and I found myself highly relating despite the show not explicitly confirming her as autistic. Firstly, she demonstrates a pretty narrow focus of interests. Chess is the big one obviously, but another one that comes out as the series goes on is fashion. Anything outside these interests tends to catch her off guard and more than once she doesn't really seem to understand other interests that people have. Secondly, she seems to have difficulties in communicating. She's very blunt in how she approaches people, and often early on misses out on a lot of social cues that others would probably pick up. There's a joke early on that flies over her head entirely, and she doesn't get it until later on in the series. As the articles that quoted and linked above notes, multiple times she compensates for this by directly observing the people around her. This is something I've done myself and do often just to ensure I'm following social "procedure." Likewise, she doesn't quite communicate herself well to others, which causes a fair bit of misunderstanding at times too. Lastly, she does kind of indicate sensory issues over the course of the series, even ignoring her problems with addiction. She doesn't seem to do well with large crowds at times, and we see her have indications of stimming too. More than once the camerawork reinforces this, even when she's sober. I don't know if the director and/or writers intended for her to be autistic coded, nor do I know what the original author might have intended as I haven't read the novel yet. However, I do know that I could emphasize with her struggles, and relate them to issues that I've dealt with in my own life. It was very refreshing, and really elevated the show for me.

Thread Kotaku: From Xenogears To Xenoblade: The History Of Monolith Soft
This article is lovely. I've been a fan since Xenogears, and there were some details in here that I didn't know. Such as Kunihiko Tanaka being the character designer on Ys 3 and Popful Mail. I gotta wonder what one needs to do to get a Soma Bringer remake and Xenoblade X port on Switch tho. Xenoblade X is such a lovely game and I still break out my Wii U for it from time to time. Would like to have a Definitive Edition with a redesigned UI/UX and QoL.

Thread Inclusive design needs to go beyond accessibility
Really good thread, . Inclusive design and accessibility are topics dear to me, due to being disabled in more ways than one. It can really frustrating to not be able to play a game properly because the designers something THEY thought was simple, but is actually very difficult for the user. As someone who deals with joint and hand pain on a regular basis, options like this can be a godsend. Stuff like:Sometimes I've had to stop playing a game simply because doing a basic gameplay function is impossible. :\

Thread CDPR is a transphobic company. It's time we stop making excuses for them.
Hey everyone, Needless to say this is a unique situation with the delay and OT locks won't be a regular thing going forward. But because we've already committed to closing the OT for a day to raise awareness, we're going to uphold that commitment and the OT will be closed the day after launch, as it would have before this delay. We've already spoken with Black-Chamber and Vestan and they're still totally supportive and on board.

Thread Transgender Awareness Week 2020! (13th ~ 20th Nov.)
That's an incredible OT there, . Really impressed with how much effort you put into it. Awareness week has come at an amazing time for me, as several people in my life have recently come out as trans and/or non-binary. It's great to have a resource like this that I can just link to them for more information, and help them walk through this journey of discovery.

We'll lock all the dedicated threads for the game on that day with a temporary staff post to explain what's going on. There may be some discussion about it in other threads, and there will probably be limits to what we can realistically enforce, but as long as we can get people to observe the spirit of the rule (no focused hype threads) we think the point will get across.

Thread CDPR is a transphobic company. It's time we stop making excuses for them.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you all know: In order to shine a light on the issues and concerns surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, we are going to be locking its OT on November 20 which is the International Transgender Day of Remembrance. This will make the issue impossible to miss, especially for anyone using that thread the day after the game launches. and , who have signed up to create the OT, are 100% on board with this and both were fully supportive when we contacted them about it. The OT will be reopened on the 21st because we feel it’s important to have a space where people can discuss and criticize the game without bigots and trolls dominating or shutting down the discussion. We'll be moderating as strictly as necessary to provide that space. There will be a staff post and guidelines in place to ensure this. Additionally, in honor of Transgender Awareness Week as well as the Day of Remembrance, there will be a site logo change for the duration.

Thread Thanks ERA for helping me come to terms with being transgender.
Yeah, I totally get that. It took me years to come out to my family because I was always afraid of how they'd take it. It's not an easy thing to talk about at all, even if you're effectively open with other people regarding it.

Hearing stories like this pretty much melts my heart. Especially the part about telling your family about it, and them being so accepting. I'm really happy that you were able to come to terms with and even embrace being transgender, Lamp.

Thread I don't get the hate for Imagine Dragons
They're a pop rock band, and they do what you'd expect a pop rock band to do: Make catchy and inspirational, if a bit shallow, pop rock songs for the masses. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, either. But obviously, if you're looking for something with more substance, it's not going to be very appealing. And I think criticizing them for the shallowness is a fair take. That being said, I do enjoy some of their music. On Top of the World was nice. Their songs are fun to play in Beat Saber too.

I legit enjoy singing this song. It's just a great way to raise my spirits. Speaking of which... Born To Be Epic is just one of those heavy metal songs that's extremely cheesy but also a good kind of inspiring cheese.

Thread Cis cosplayer whose transphobic cosplay was promoted by CDPR/Cyberpunk: "Cis men and women face acts of violence on a daily basis as well."
That quote in the thread title is spoken like someone who's never truly faced the violence and discrimination that trans folks experience on a regular basis. Never been insulted or harassed at work or school. Never had people question your chosen name because your voice doesn't match up. Never run into legal problems a cis person wouldn't experience. Never had to deal with the threat of violence so bad that you're afraid to walk alone. :\
