Let's not play dumb, one of the reasons of this move was most likely the fear of backlash from part of their audience. What happened with the Ooblets team would make any dev think twice before making their game exclusive to the EGS and go against gamers(TM). This is not just about physical an mental integrity, it's also about their livehood. Spinning it around as a decision to please such audience is just a pretty way of selling out giving the control you have over your product to a bunch of bullies (and burning bridges within the industry in the way). And I'm obviously not saying all the people interested in the game are like that, but I'm pretty sure most of it is.
