Thread Greenberg says there is no Xbox event coming soon that would have game announcements etc
Honestly, I think it's more likely Bandai Namco holds their own event soon. They filed a trademark for "Bandai Namco Next" not so long ago, which sounds like an event name to me: They also trademarked this, not sure if related, but just throwing it in here because it looks it could be a new logo or something: They have a lot they haven't shown (Elden Ring, Digimon Survive, Tales of Arise, that one Digimon game they've been working on for 84 years, etc.) and recently acquired Reflector Entertainment, a minority stake in Limbic to develop two new IPs, etc. Also a possible new Sword Art Online game was trademarked recently (Variant Showdown).

Yeah that one. I don't have any inside info about it or anything. I just hope it hasn't been cancelled. It's funny though that Digimon Survive was meant to hold us over until the next Digimon Story, yet here we are nearly three years after its initial announcement and it's still not out.Ah, no idea, but one of the descriptors is "presentation of live performances," so there's that I guess.

So there's a bit of a misinterpretation here. He's not saying they're revealing new content. It that they're revealing new content, but . He could just be referring to development anecdotes, etc. Here is a better translation: "Hello, I'm [Motomu] Toriyama, the co-director of Final Fantasy VII Remake. We're finally going to hold the orchestra concert this weekend. Not only will there be songs from the original game, but many new songs were also written for Final Fantasy VII Remake, so I'm looking forward to the orchestra playing those. There'll be the performance of course, but there's also a bonus program in which I participate and talk a little bit about Final Fantasy VII Remake, which you'll only be able to hear [in the program]. I agree. I didn't mean to imply that Sega did nothing. But I'm glad that even with the properties Sega itself doesn't want to touch, that they allow interested parties like Dotemu, Forever Entertainment, FDG, Ys Net, etc. bring them back.Maybe I wasn't specific enough. I just meant that's not the reason behind the restructure (they outlined the reasons in the press release). It be what opens the door to an acquisition in the future, which I hope doesn't happen, but I don't think that's why they're restructuring now. There are tons of baseless rumors about the games industry daily. Thread The King of Fighters XV - Character Trailer #2: Meitenkun
I'm willing to bet otherwise. (OK, I'm not really willing to "bet." In the end I'm just guessing based on trends / previous releases. I don't mind being wrong.) I think The King of Fighters XV will definitely come to PC. But if we're looking at previous releases as examples, The King of Fighters XIV didn't come to PC until 10 months later, and Samurai Shodown took even longer at 12 months. As for them wanting to avoid being lambasted by PC players for potentially being an Epic Games Store exclusive, that doesn't really make sense to me since Samurai Shodown was announced for PC from the get-go, and it wasn't until a while later that it was revealed it would arrive exclusively via the Epic Games Store. SNK also recently announced a PS4 version of The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match, which rather than any sort of release date was only dated as "coming soon." So what I'm thinking is we get a release date or narrower window for The King of Fighters XV at a State of Play, followed by a "The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is available now!" sorta thing. That, and the recently announced and released The King of Fighters XIV Ultimate Edition is only for PS4 and has new cover art spotlighting Shun'ei, who as you know is the protagonist in The King of Fighters XV. Again, happy to be wrong! In the end it's all just speculation. I just don't see why they're holding back on platforms when they're releasing this year and know what those platforms are unless it's something like coordinating the reveal with a platform holder event.

OP (), he didn't say "out of 2021," he just said "2021 game delays." It could also refer to games dated for certain dates or windows delayed to a later point in the year.Oddworld Soulstorm was originally planned for late 2020, but slipped to spring 2021. I think that one will be fine. Resident Evil Village is planned for April according to the Capcom leaks, which is pretty early in the year, so I don't see it slipping as far as 2022. Kena is planned for Q1 2021 / March, which is even earlier, so I don't think that one's slipping. Ghostwire: Tokyo is planned for October, which sounds like more of a strategic release window since its horror-themed, so I don't see that getting delayed. As for the rest, who knows, but I doubt *all* those games are slipping. People like to joke about God of War: Ragnarok hitting 2021, but we haven't even seen any of the game yet to get an idea of how far along it is.

Just taking a shot in the dark, but I'm thinking (hoping) we might get a State of Play this week. Based on: 1. The King of Fighters XV. There was a a few days ago with a 2021 release window and no mention of platforms, but SNK planned for this coming week. Considering The King of Fighters XIV Ultimate Edition and The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match were only announced for PS4, and they still haven't mentioned platforms for XV or set a specific date for this week's new trailer, my guess is The King of Fighters XV is a PS4/5 title and will be featured in a State of Play. 2. Square Enix trademarked Forspoken in and . Forspoken was first back in September 2020. While many have speculated this to be the subtitle of the next Final Fantasy XIV expansion, producer Naoki Yoshida specifically said it's not in an interview with GAME Watch. So my next guess is it's the official title for Project Athia. And if that's the case, we may be seeing more of it soon (like in a State of Play) considering the trademarks were recent. Also, the domain for was last updated on the same day as the last update for the domains , , and (which was October 21), and all are registered by CSC Corporate Domains. 3. Pre-orders for Resident Evil Village are supposed to start in January, according to the Capcom data leaks. All major Resident Evil Village news so far has come from Sony's PS5 events, meaning we may get our next big update in a State of Play again right before pre-orders open. On an unrelated note, five years ago (Friday, January 8, 2016), Square Enix its Dragon Quest 30th Anniversary Project Presentation, which was held the following week, so hopefully we'll hear something from Square Enix about Dragon Quest's 35th anniversary plans soon. In any event, I'm just guessing and don't actually have any knowledge of when the next State of Play will occur, so don't get upset if it doesn't happen.

But yeah let's not go back-and-forth on this as it's not really on-topic.Woops. I was citing Iceborne numbers by mistake. Thanks for pointing that out. Thread Monster Hunter Rise demo thread (available from January 7th/8th until February 1st)
This is a bit of a silly take if you ask me. . If they're considering sales, it wouldn't make sense not to release it on other platforms. Edit: Monster Hunter: World did 8,692,000 on PS4 and 5,953,000 on PC, with 3,184,000 sales being on PS4 in Japan. Cited Iceborne numbers initially by mistake.Yes, Nintendo paying $6 million for exclusivity doesn't make a lot of sense. If we assume a PS4 version of Rise sells even half as much as World did in Japan, Capcom would have already earned 16 times what Nintendo paid. As for Capcom simply wanting to tap into the portable market, the problem with this take is there isn't anything exclusively portable about this game (except maybe local wireless play, but you can say that for any Switch game with multiplayer). Especially if there are plans for a PC version, I don't see why they wouldn't throw it onto the other consoles eventually as well. Unless there is some sort of exclusivity deal in place. But again, that $6 million number just doesn't add up if that's the case. --- In any case, looking forward to the demo tonight. Reminds me I need to finish up World soon. Now might actually be a good time to do so with the Rise demo coming out as it'll be interesting to see how different each game feels. Wyvern Riding looks lit.

Second retailer is irrelevant, it was Xtralife. They post listings based on rumors all the time and make their own placeholder artwork for them. The placeholder cover artwork they used for the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy listing was just the logo posted by the first retailer (HKGSE) slapped onto the same 3D box art they use for all their other listings. I used to check on them quite a lot a couple years back and they're not a reliable source for retail leaks at all, trust me on this. Highlighted part isn't really true. There have been some Momotaro Dentetsu games on PlayStation (and even one on Xbox 360, TIL), but with nine releases on PlayStation versus 17 releases on Nintendo, I think it's fair to say it's mainly associated with Nintendo.

I just want to see more collaborations like they did in the PS3 / PS Vita era (though they did a lot more before that) with Soul Sacrifice (developed by Marvelous), Freedom Wars (developed by Dimps / Shift), Wild Arms (developed by Media Vision), My Summer Vacation (developed by Millennium Kitchen), Rain (developed by Acquire), etc. I imagine those games don't cost a whole lot to make, but they're all good in their own right and add to the exclusive lineup variety.

Like I said, I could see definitely see it being the next big game out. My only reason for leaning towards Returnal being first is that the box art / game listing leaked on Amazon Australia alongside Demon's Souls, Sackboy, and Destruction AllStars, which were all launch games (well, before Destruction AllStars was delayed). And thanks for the kind words! Also, I'm going to assume you didn't mean anything bad by it, but for future reference use "JP" / "JPN" / just write out "Japanese" as the abbreviation you chose is generally considered a slur.

Thread Why do some Series X games on discs require you to essentially re-download the entire game?
Funny that there's a thread on this as I asked the same question in a Discord server yesterday. To sum things up, I assume the situation is as follows: Xbox physical games with "Xbox Series X • Xbox One" on the label, otherwise known as Xbox Smart Delivery games, contain the Xbox One version on the disc, as the disc would need to be readable / playable on an Xbox One. When played on an Xbox Series X it downloads the Xbox Series version and uses the disc for verification that you own the game.PlayStation 4 physical games with a free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version are the equivalent of Xbox Smart Delivery games. They contain the PlayStation 4 version on the disc, and when played on a PlayStation 5 it downloads the PlayStation 5 version and uses the disc for verification that you own the game. (Though PlayStation 4 is not exactly the same as Smart Delivery as Smart Delivery also refers to letting you use the same save data across Xbox One and Xbox Series, where developers must manually implement that on PlayStation.) PlayStation 5 physical games contain the PlayStation 5 version on the disc. What I'm curious about: do Xbox game cases make any reference to this at all? i.e. "When you purchase this disc, you're getting the Xbox One version; an Internet connection is required to download the Xbox Series version." I don't have access to any Xbox games to check for myself. But I could imagine it being pretty upsetting for folks buying a game with an Xbox Series version to come home and find out they have to download the entire game or a large chunk of it before they can access that version. I understand day-one patches and such are also a thing, but they generally don't prevent you from playing the version of the game you purchased.

Just to clarify this point because it's badly worded: "A. The PS4 version can be played on the PS5 using the system's backwards compatibility. However, it will perform the same as the PS4 version (with a maximum resolution of 1080p)." Means: PS4 version will run how the PS4 version normally runs, even when played on PS5. It's not "simple as that." You're drawing early conclusions. Obviously it's easy to see why they would make future Bethesda games exclusive. I mean it's a $7.5 billion dollar deal. But it's also not hard to be in Spencer's position and say, "Future Bethesda games will not be available on platforms outside of our ecosystem." There is no reason for him to say it'll be a "case by case" situation unless, well, it's a case by case situation. The argument that all future Bethesda games will be exclusive would be a lot better if Phil hadn't said anything.

I would take these ESRB ratings for Xbox Series games with a grain of salt. "But Sal, it's the ESRB!" I think most games on Xbox One are getting rated for Xbox Series now. For example, Little Nightmares, which also has a PS5 version, was rated for Xbox Series alongside its current-gen versions, but the PS5 version wasn't rated yet (and is due out at the same time as the Xbox Series version): Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 was rated for Xbox Series in addition to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC, but it's not an Xbox Series game: The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope is the same situation: I imagine this is largely because Microsoft is now listing every Xbox One game as "Available on" Xbox Series X + S on the Microsoft Store. For example: This brings me to my problem with Xbox box arts, but I'd rather not get too off track. illustrating my issues though. Just frustrating because it makes it difficult to tell what's a genuine Xbox Series game versus an Xbox One game.

$70 games are only exceptions right now because there are so few next-gen-only games. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, DIRT 5, etc. are all $60 because they're also on current-gen consoles. Demon's Souls and Destruction AllStars are $70 because they're AAA titles developed exclusively for next-gen. The same can be said for NBA 2K21, which is essentially a new game on next-gen. Once more AAA next-gen-only games come around, they'll be priced at $70.

Thread The PS5 is the first PlayStation platform to launch in Japan without any retail 3rd party JP game alongside it [Discussion]
For sure. I'm reminded of the press release announcing the PlayStation 4 version of Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, in which the publisher specifically mentions the game is also playable on PlayStation 5. For some games, it may just not make sense to develop a PlayStation 5 version, especially if the PlayStation 4 game might already natively run better when played on PlayStation 5. Release one SKU = less costly, playable on both systems. Release two SKUS = more costly, one version has a limited audience. The only downside is that your PlayStation 5 audience is probably looking for games with that shiny new PlayStation 5 packaging and may skip out on your game if they see it's "only a PS4 game."Maybe not the best label --- just meant that it's the only one of the two next-gen platforms that the game is available on.The PS4 version of Dragon Quest XI had sold 1,347,582 retail copies when it was last seen on Media Create's sales charts in September 2017, and the 3DS version sold 1,741,582 retail copies when it was last seen in October 2017. According to Square Enix, shipments + digital sales across both SKUs topped three million in Japan in August 2017. At that point, the game had sold 1,148,888 retail copies on 3DS and 950,315 retail copies on PlayStation 4, meaning about 900,797 units were either shipped + not yet sold or digital. Considering the high digital attach rate Monster Hunter: World would welcome half a year later (650,000~ digital copies in three days), it's not too out there to guess that the majority of those 900,797 unaccounted-for units were digital PlayStation 4 sales. The quote is fine, but I don't think the implication isn't "We thought it wouldn't sell on PS4, so we created a 3DS version to make up for it." It's more so, "We decided to create two versions to reach as wide an audience as possible."

PC is a development environment. The trailer that opened the PlayStation 5 Showcase live stream then ends with : "PlayStation Console Exclusive* Also available on PC." Ah, OK, that would seem to confirm a PC version. But then, the direct-feed trailer uploaded to both and 's YouTube channels only say: "PlayStation Console Exclusive* Not available on other platforms for a limited time after release on PS5." This is a direct contrast to the live streamed version of the trailer, as well as other trailers that premiered during the same Showcase (which were not shy about mentioning a PC version): Then, the official press release made no mention of a PC version: Nor does the game's page on the press site: And finally, when I asked Square Enix about the PC version mentioned in the PlayStation 5 Showcase live stream, a representative told me: In the end, one thing is clear, and it's that Final Fantasy XVI is "not available on other platforms for a limited time after release on PS5." It will probably come to PC down the line, and perhaps even Xbox Series, but those versions are not officially confirmed to exist at this point, and my guess is that they won't be confirmed until sometime after the PlayStation 5 version's release. I would consider this a repeat Final Fantasy VII Remake. And considering the Demon’s Souls explanation below, the “Also available on PC” footnote in the PlayStation 5 Showcase was likely an error by someone on Sony’s side. The initial trailer uploaded to the PlayStation YouTube account ended with the following title card: Which was removed, and corrected to the following: It is very easy to see that this one was "human error," as Sony stated. No trailer for a game "also on PC" has also described the game as "PlayStation Exclusive." I know there are a bunch of folks who would love to play Demon's Souls on PC, but this isn't your "they jumped the gun, it's coming." If Demon's Souls ever does come to PC, I imagine it would be many years down the line at best.

Thread Sony should be more transparent with their exclusivity policy
This is wrong. Every PS5 game trailer from these showcases has a title card that specifies exclusivity and if a PC version exists. Nintendo specifies exclusivity in its indie game presentations, but uses “console launch exclusive” as an umbrella term for “Switch-only at launch” or “Switch and PC-only at launch,” and never actually mentions whether a PC version exists. Raji is a good example of this, which was a “console launch exclusive” that launched first for Switch and later for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while a game like Hades is also a “console launch exclusive” that launched first for Switch and PC, and presumably sometime down the line for other platforms. Then you have situations like Disgaea 6, and various other third-party games like Dragon Quest XI S that eventually come to additional platforms, which Nintendo has never once stated are limited time exclusives despite having very clear involvement. Microsoft is better with transparency, but their problem has been that they haven’t been very clear about which games are available on Xbox Series platforms and / or Xbox One in their blog posts. They use the umbrella term “Xbox” despite some games only being available on Xbox Series platforms and some games being available on both. If anything though, Sony has been the most transparent out of the big three, just based on everything I’ve seen as someone who covers game news and these events everyday.

It’s loaded with new elements.” I mean maybe it will end up being a remake in terms of story and stuff, I don't know. But as far as what Tengo Project is calling it, it's not a remake.

That's one of the weird parts about it. If I could take a crack at guessing a non-money-related reasoning for this, I'd imagine it's: The next-gen versions of Control are exclusively the Ultimate Edition, which includes the two expansions built into the game. The original Control does not include these two expansions. I do think they should be able to verify whether someone has purchased both expansions / the Season Pass and allow users to upgrade based on that, but maybe it's more complicated than that, I dunno.

Resident Evil 8, I imagine. Though I do think there will be at least one more, given that Capcom has multiple major titles due out by March 31, 2021. I saw a earlier this week. The description mentions Dragon's Dogma as one if its mainstay franchises alongside Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Capcom trademarked "Pragmata" all over the world within the last month or so, so now that job listing has me thinking it may be a Dragon's Dogma subtitle:According to this , pragmata means "objects seen in terms of practice and not theoretical investigation." describes it as " ‘things’, but also ‘deeds’, ‘acts’ (things done), ‘doings’, ‘circumstances’ (encounters), ‘contested matters’, ‘duties’, or ‘obligations’." No probs. And I'm guessing this is for either one of two reasons: 1) Because of hardware marketing deals / conditions for appearing on Inside Xbox. 2) Because it allows a game to get twice the exposure. For Scarlet Nexus, specifically, there's also a couple weird factors in that: 1) Bandai Namco didn't send out a press release or update its press site with anything related to the game. 2) No mention of the game for Japan yet (they generally put out the Japanese trailer at the same time).

Systemic Reaction also sent out the download for Second Extinction trailer yesterday, which was a 15 GB 4K trailer. Which I also downloaded and uploaded, but it took a good amount of time to download, upload, and process. Obviously I prefer the second, but it's up to PR to make those files available to us. The source post doesn't say it's been delayed to TBA because they're overhauling the development system NOW, it says that when the game was delayed IN THE PAST (from 2019 to 2020), the reason for that delay was to rebuild the development system, which led to Bandai Namco not sharing new information for some time, but that recently the company has been gradually sharing new character details. Anyway there is likely no reason for the new date actually mentioned in the magazine as am I guessing the TBA comes from either Famitsu's release calendar or the info section of a preview (likely of the latest information that Jump had the advance on). Thread MS and Sony update/clarify BC status for next-gen consoles
If PS5 naturally runs PS4 games, and said games run without the need for any edits---in other words, I pop in the disc and the game runs---then why would it need publisher approval? Publishers would only need to get involved if it's to tweak problematic titles via patches. Re: P.T. - Are you really asking if a PS4 title that is no longer accessible on PS4 will be supported on PS5? Now if it was a question of whether P.T. would theoretically run on PS5, then the answer is yes, because it's a PS4 game and PS5 naturally runs PS4 games. But you know, you'd need to actually be able to get it onto the system to run it / find out if it runs without acting wonky.

Thread Is there any hope for PS1/PS2 backwards compatibility for PS5? Maybe even PS3?
So there's hope! The way I'm rationalizing it is this: - "Road to PS5" was a developer-focused GDC talk. - There was talk about PS4 BC because developers are still making PS4 games. - Developers would have no need to know about PS3/2/1 BC. - It's a big feature to support PS3/2/1. They'd want to make a big impact by revealing it at a formal event. Join me in keeping the dream alive! (And in the disappointment that will follow!)

There's nothing to suggest only 100 titles will be playable at launch, especially after the clarification. The top 100 statement was an example. "We tested the top 100 games, and while the majority worked fine, a few had issues, so there may be some titles within the overall PS4 library that need tweaking to run properly. We're currently testing PS4's library to find out which games have issues."

tl;dr - Majority of PS4 games will be playable on PS5, some might just need adjustments.Backward compatibility on Xbox One needed publisher confirmation because it involves taking the original game files and repackaging it into an Xbox One executable. That's why discs are just validation and the actual game is downloaded. This is incorrect.

PS5 naturally runs PS4 titles (see Mark Cerny's quote below). The only games that would need publisher involvement are the minority of titles that have issues and need to be modified to run properly. That much is even said in the blog post update --- "We’re currently evaluating games on a title-by-title basis to spot any issues that need adjustment from the original software developers."

Sent an email early yesterday, no response yet. Anyway, I'm keeping the stupid dream for PS1, PS2, and PS3 backward compatibility alive. This week's event was developer-focused, and even the PS4 backward compatibility talk was aimed at developers, considering PS4 games are still in development. There would've been no reason to mention PS1, PS2, and PS3 backward compatibility if it exists. I'm hoping they're saving it for a "by the way" moment of whenever they decide to actually reveal this machine.

As I've said a bunch of times in various parts of the internet, what Cerny said, at least how I and many others heard it, is basically, 'PS5 supports PS4 games, we tried out the top 100 to see how they would work, and from that pool most of them played fine but some had issues, so there may be some titles [within the whole PS4 library] that need tweaking on a game-by-game basis to run properly.' The whole bit about running at "boosted frequencies" I don't believe was in reference to a specific mode. I think that's just how PS5 will run PS4 games in general.

I still have a feeling this is inaccurate. The PlayStation Blog summary does not reflect what Cerny said:Sounds like he was just saying that, in their testing of PS4 games on PS5, they decided to try out the top 100 to see how they would go, and since a few had issues, there may have to be some tweaking on a title-by-title basis.

What Mark Cerny said during the actual presentation was different from what the PlayStation Blog wrote:To me that reads as: most titles will be playable, but there may be some that need tweaking to work properly. Anyway, still holding out hope for legacy BC even though it's a stupid dream. If it exists there'd have been no need to mention it yesterday as all talk was developer-focused.

Takashi Mochizuki, who worked for The Wall Street Journal at the time, asked Square Enix if it plans to add the new elements of the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI to the vanilla version via an update or downloadable content, to which the company said that it was “undecided.” If it wasn't possible, they'd more likely say there were no plans. My final thought on it is, if it's happening, it'll be in September this year. Similar to how Octopath Traveler came to PC a year later.

By process of elimination, if it's not Spike Chunsoft's game (which it's likely not, given the Izanagi tweets and trademarks) or the anime (which it's likely not, again given the Izanagi stuff), then it would have to be this---IF it's one of their four previously teased projects. I guess we don't know for sure if there's anything else in the works there, though I'd imagine they'd wanna get these four out first before adding anymore projects.

Or what they could do is do what they did in the PS2 / PS3 / PS Vita days and actually work with external Japanese developers. Work with Cattle Call for a new Arc the Lad. Work with Media Vision for a new Wild Arms. Work with Cygames or Level-5 for a large-scale RPG. (I'm aware Cygames is already working on three PS4-exclusive titles, but I'm referring to a first-party collaboration title.) Work with Acquire / Crispy's for something unique like Rain or Tokyo Jungle. Work with Millennium Kitchen for a new Boku no Natsuyasumi. (pls Attack of the Friday Monsters from Level-5 was not enough for me) Work with Platinum Games for a AAA budget action RPG. Work with Alfa System for a new Oreshika. Work with Marvelous for something new. Just give everyone money to make new things. =) To be fair, they worked with some Japanese developers on PS4 games, but significantly less than they did in the past. PSN nets them a lot of money and I enjoy most things I play, so I'd be happy to see them use some of that money to bring back those frequent AA-budget first-party productions.

Wasn't there something fishy with that press release containing the Q&A regarding exclusivity / coming to PC? I feel like I remember it being fake or something? Can someone else chime in here? I don't doubt the possibility of Death Stranding coming to PC, especially with the PS4 package itself not containing the "Only on PlayStation" banner and it being a first-party title. But I don't think this list is a proper way to judge that, especially with (as others have pointed out) titles like Tetris Effect and Salaryman also sitting there. Last generation I would've told you any SIE-owned and published title wouldn't be available anywhere other than PlayStation, but the landscape has obviously changed with the release of thatgamecompany and Quantic Dream's titles on PC (and a few others). Though the unique case with Death Stranding that still leaves me questioning the possibility is its use of the Decima Engine.
