Thread CatEra |OT| Share your pics, read our tips, ask any questions
I've had cats most of my life and I feel like I've always had a really good ability to bond with them and understand their wants. Recently, my wife and I adopted a kitten. He was 6 months old when we got him, he's now 11 months old. Unlike any other cat I've ever met or had, he HATES to be touched. In general, he is frightened of nearly everything. Loud noises, sudden movements, etc. He is generally OK with being around me and my wife, but if we get too close or look like we're going to try to touch or pet him, he runs away. It's like he's totally cool with us if we're 3-5 feet away from him, but any closer and we're suddenly untrustworthy heh. We talk to him constantly when he's around us and I try to get low to the ground so I'm not towering above him to show I'm not a threat. He will get closer to me than normal in that situation, but will instantly run away if I put out my hand. My wife gives him a treat daily and he'll eat it from her hand and will tolerate being petted then, but as soon as he's done he runs away. He is ultra suspicious of me if I try to give him a treat. He doesn't seem to be super into playing with us, though we can get him to chase a string if we are persistent. At night though, he plays with the toys we've bought him or he goes into the kitchen and finds a paper towel to tear up. We've never heard him purr and I've only ever heard him meow once the entire time we've had him. Other than these personality issues, he's extremely well behaved. He kinda looks like a stray because we can't brush or pet him, so his fur is kind of raggedy lol but again, very well-behaved. What's the deal with this cat lol. Anyone have any ideas on other ways we might be able to bond with him? I get it will take time and effort, which is fine, I just don't know if it's better to sort of leave it up to him to make the move when he's ready or if there are things we can do to make it easier...

Thread Jonathan Hickman's X-Men |OT| Adaptation or Dominance(Open Spoilers, Gambit is the Witness)
I liked the tone of Marauders a lot, and it feels like it could be ripe for a bunch of extremely cool stories. The exchange between Bobby and Pyro was actually really enlightening...explained a little bit about what is going on and how people are reacting to the resurrections. Looking forward to reading more.

In re-reading the previous issues, I came across this part in Powers of X #2:Sounds kind of similar to a Titan. I wonder if we'll be seeing this corrupted hive mind again?

Pretty great swerve, to get everyone assuming that Krakoa had something to do with resurrecting everyone. And Hickman had always said he was a fan of Goldballs...now we know what he was going on about :)

Speaking of variant covers, is there anywhere online where you could order most or all of the variants for House of X #1?

I’m going to the panel tomorrow and am so hyped for it. I’m sure it’s going to spoil some stuff, but I’m too excited to not go. I got him to sign some stuff yesterday and told him how excited I was for his take on the X-Men and he said “yeah, they’re letting me kinda do whatever I want. We’re not going to be pulling any punches.” SO HYPE

Thread In Japan, It’s a Riveting TV Plot: Can a Worker Go Home on Time? (NYT)
I am definitely held to a different standard as a foreigner. So it definitely makes it easier for me to both leave on time as well as be critical of those who don't. I totally recognize that. But there are a few renegade Japanese employees who are like me, who get their shit done and leave on time, and the same people are equally critical of them as well. (I would also note that those critics are the least important contributors in the department, but what do I know?) It's definitely something ingrained in the culture, but culture isn't an excuse for something that is obviously a negative.

Thread In Japan, It’s a Riveting TV Plot: Can a Worker Go Home on Time? (NYT)
On my first day, here at the PlayStation office in Tokyo, I was told my hours were 9:30-6:15. At 6:15 my boss came over and asked me if I had anything else that I needed to do that day. I said no so he told me to go ahead and leave. I was like, "...is this a test??" and so I didn't shutdown my computer and kinda sat around for a little bit more. About 10 minutes later he walked by my desk and was like "Why are you still here?" I finally said, "Well, everyone else is still here and working, so..." He just said "Don't worry about them. If your work is done, it doesn't make any sense to stay. Don't you have anything you want to do after work?" I got the hell out and every day since, if I didn't have anything I needed to do, I got the hell out of Dodge at 6:15. For SURE some of my Japanese co-workers didn't like the fact that I jetted earlier than everyone else and I know some of them talked shit about me. I just never cared. If they really wanted to leave early, they'd get their shit done or, probably more accurately, they'd grow some backbone and just refuse to work pointless overtime. Granted, PlayStation is a very Westernized company here in Japan, so it's probably been much easier for me here than for others at other companies.

Thanks! I'll look for that on Marvel Unlimited.I guess I should have clarified that when I said I haven't read an X book in years, "years" meant "30+ years" heh

As someone who hasn't read any X books in years, who are they? What would I read to learn more? Or should I just wait for Based Hickman to blow my mind?

Thread Some Movies in Japan Get Special Screenings Where Fans Yell in Excitement
I saw the midnight opening showing of Endgame here in Tokyo and it was an 応援上映 and it was the PERFECT way to experience the movie. It was full of Marvel/MCU fans and they were into it. Laughing at the appropriate parts, recognizing the in-jokes and fan service, ooh-ing and applauding at the cool moments, crying at the sad parts...I totally loved it. So glad I saw it then. I went back and saw it two days later at a normal showing and it was dead silent for most of the movie except near the end where everybody was sniffling and crying. Definitely not as exciting a way to see it.

What do we expect this is? I mean, I guess without captions it's pretty impossible to guess heh, but I had even non-readers reaching out to me (as their resident comic reader) asking me what this is, so I guess people are interested.

I never cared about the Fantastic Four until a friend recommended it to me and Hickman's take made me an instant fan. Same with his Avengers/New Avengers run. Now I'll read anything by him. I haven't read an X-Men title regularly since The Fall of the Mutants in the late 80s (!), so I'm sort of excited to get back into them, especially with Hickman running things.

Thread Persona Super Live P-Sound Street 2019 |OT| LIVE from the Ryogoku Kokugikan!
The show last night was really amazing. I had second row seats so I was SUPER close to the stage. The performers did a great job of making sure to always make their way around the stage, so everyone could see something happening at all times and not be bored. The music selection was crazy good and the dancing was great as well. I wish I could have taken some photos, but since it's Japan, I'm not surprised they weren't allowed. Glad to see the P5R announcement in person...the crowd was so hyped for it. It'll be interesting to see how they change the performance up for the second show tonight.

Thread This celebrity-story Twitter post is doing the rounds - What's your contribution?
Hannibal Buress was in Tokyo with a bunch of his comedy friends like Eric Andre on vacation (I think). A friend of mine booked them to play a comedy show at a small bar in Shimokitazawa. The night before, my friend invites me to go out and have some drinks with Hannibal. We meet up and Hannibal is crazy late, but when he gets there, he is pretty nice...not really super friendly, but definitely polite and chill. He asks me where I work and when I mention PlayStation, he brightens up and we start talking a lot about games. I mention that I had just started playing Fallout 4 as it had just come out. He says he's a huge fan of the series and he's been really looking forward to it, so I tell him I'll bring him a copy when I go to the show. He is super excited and really appreciative. Next night, I go to the show and he's just...alright. You can tell he's just riffing sort of, not using really any material or anything. Most of the bits start off with "But Japan is crazy man..." After the show I catch him by the door smoking. I give him the copy of Fallout 4 and he's like, "...oh. You don't have a copy for Xbox, do you?" I don't really care what platform people play on, but for some reason, I'm irrationally offended and say "Yeah, surprisingly not a lot of copies of the Xbox version at the PlayStation offices." He just sort of shrugged and thanked me for it and then I left. That's it heh.
