Thread How is the lockdown affecting your sex life?
I hear you on all that, and am basically time-traveled to a few months ahead of you perhaps where we've lived together for a few months now (moved in at about 8 months of dating), and basically all intimacy and closeness is gone. I've watched as every bit of intimacy we had slowly eroded, from the sex to simple hand-holding and just enjoying each other's company. It's tough watching things fall apart in slow motion, but yah. I dunno. Maybe you'r situation is a bit different from mine, or a lot different, but it sucks. Best of luck.

Unless you need more storage I'd just get the new one tbh, even if they're very similar. Cool LIDAR and just a newer device, non-refurb. But if you need more storage, for video/photo editing or having a shitton of local media on your device, go with the 256gb. I might be biased as I have a 2020 11" 128gb (WiFi + Cellular).

People know less about what they do and don’t like/want than they think, and very few people who think they have an informed opinion actually do. Just how it rolls. Every once in a while someone gives good feedback on a single dimension of a design choice, but more often than not forget to consider a dozen other factors. At the end of the day it’s a mixture of the aggregate feedback and telemetry that tells the full story.

No, this is an overreaction and a terrible take. They need to control the amounts of people inside at a time, as many are already doing in the Bay Area, to great effect. Most stores are also offering senior/at-risk only hours before opening. This has nothing to do with profits. People need groceries.

Thread Weight Loss Challenge XI: Where losing is winning!
Nice, 'gratz!Yup! I'm doing OMAD. In the past, I've done OMAD + Keto + 1200isplenty. The keto bit was a bit too restrictive now that I live and shop for food with my partner, so I've decided to just restrict myself to a single 1200 calorie meal a day, carbs inclusive. It works well because it adds structure to my eating (which, without...I struggle with snacking a LOT), and gives me a fairly large satisfying meal to look forward to. One thing I do NOT get without keto is the eating zen that I had before. I found that on keto, after a week or two, I basically never had food on my mind and avoiding it became super easy, as my body was running on fat stores and never quite seemed to go into the sick/desperation feeling I get when I'm on carbs. Lately, by the time my meal time comes around, I am feeling a bit anxious to eat and sometimes a bit sick, even with plenty of electrolytes and water throughout the day. I really hate the way my body yearns for carbs but this is more sustainable given my current lifestyle, so, while the progress isn't as quick and my overall state of mind isn't as clear as when I was on keto, it works out. Edit: Also noticed our start weights are fairly similar! Go us, and congrats on the progress so far.

Thread Weight Loss Challenge XI: Where losing is winning!
OMAD is great because you get to just plan a single, big meal :) I'll also add in things like dessert/"appetizer" if my main meal is not caloric enough, so I'll chomp on some pringles beforehand and have a scoop of pistachio ice cream after. It keeps me relatively happy. But given all this, I am quickly coming up on my usual "plateau", around 173ish. I think 173 was the lowest I got last time, and once I get into the low 170s I think I'll start having to be more restrictive/disciplined to make sure I keep up my weight loss. I have found that with making any major dietary change, whether it be what I eat or when I eat, my stomach also gets upset/grumpy for the first few days to week, then it stabilizes. I just take the extra bowel movements as bonus weight loss the first week :P Perhaps TMI, but there you have it. Cheers!

Thread Are Dyson vacuums worth it?
Yes, I absolutely love my V12. Almost a requirement with 2 dogs in the house. It makes it so easy to just pick up, vacuum, empty and put back (I use the wall mount). If you want something that sucks more (pun kinda intended), look at a Miele canister. But the Dyson is my pick due to the ease of use.Depends on what level of suction you're using. It's a non-issue unless you have to vacuum a gigantic area at once at max suction (which I find is barely ever needed).

Thread Valve Explains Why Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Was Never Made
I think Valve has been pretty clear that not only do they, in fact, have an appetite to return to the Half-Life universe, but that HL: Alyx marks the of that return. I think Valve realizes the barriers to entry are still high, and higher than they'd like. Even though I've kind of lost sight of where efforts to lower those barriers are at now..I trust they are ongoing. If I had to take a shot in the dark, I'd say Valve is all in on VR and we might still see them revolutionize this space with more than just cool new games.

Much smaller problems at the time. The scale of the problems Valve has set out to solve have also significantly grown since then. We're talking a video game company turned platform holder, with huge growth in scale and ambitions. It's not surprising. They could either focus on the future of platforms for PC gaming, the emergence of DOTA2 and other transformative online experiences, and the future of how we interact with media, or just make a new HL game because a very small group of vocal people were yelling about it. The choice was obvious.

Thread Was "The Road to PS5" a marketing blunder?
The only people taking the information released so far and drawing definitive predictions for either console are indeed engaging in console wars. I stand by that. Same for people under the impression they have a clear vision of both company's full marketing strategy and how it'll affect the launch performance of either console."Casuals" in the sense of the mass market that will make or break either console are not tuning into this livestream, most won't even read the news coming from it. People are taking a technical talk geared towards a technical crowd and misrepresenting it as some core part of Sony's consumer marketing strategy for PS5. It's not.

Thread PlayStation 5 System Architecture Deep Dive |OT| Secret Agent Cerny
The fact they have been shown means nothing for what will be available at launch. Microsoft and Sony's marketing strategy have obviously been vastly different, but we've basically only seen Microsoft's hand. It's hard to really draw any concrete conclusions. The number of views on Hellblade 2 + Halo Infinite's trailer ultimately will mean nothing for the success of the consoles and their lineup. It's really, really hard to judge what the public at large will feel, even what the enthusiast crowd will feel, based on the reactions on ERA. What will actually define success has almost nothing to do with performance, and assuming all people care about is "which runs fifa or cod faster" is also extremely reductionist. The overall package of hardware + exclusives + price will dictate success, and we simply do not know these factors yet. Basically the information Microsoft and now Sony have put it only serves for bickering console warriors. They have little influence on the commercial success of either platform.

Thread PlayStation 5 System Architecture Deep Dive |OT| Secret Agent Cerny
It's more about historical promise. I'm fairly confident Sony has some bombshells they are waiting to announce, lots of teams have been quiet and had their heads down working. I don't think Halo Infinite and Hellblade 2 are a very strong showing, given Halo 5 and that Hellblade while a good game, was just a standout AA game, nothing to really write home about. I think people are vastly mistaken if they think there will be a huge material difference between PS5 and XSX because of a 1.8TF difference on paper, without taking into consideration other architectural differences that might offset that discrepancy.

It's closer than most people think, considering the architectural advantages with 5GB/s NVME. But Microsoft is seemingly edging out Sony on most facets of technology here -- both software and hardware. Microsoft's investments in its gaming division and into things like software and BC are paying off in spades now that they're ready for next-gen. Both will be amazing consoles, but I think Sony is sweating a bit.

I don't think most demanding jobs or careers are a good fit for the spectrum of workers you mentioned, why would Silicon Valley be any different? Not every industry is a good fit for every person. Thread It seems to me a TV only Switch model makes a ton of sense and represents easy money Nintendo is just leaving on the table.
ERA thinks all of their product ideas "make a ton of sense" with zero market research and based the opinions of an entirely niche audience that's not even remotely representative of Nintendo's target audience. It's possible this will change over the Switch's lifetime, but its differentiating factor is the fact that it's not just set-top boxed like the other two major players. Trying to compete in that segment is not a winning scenario for Nintendo. The Lite continues to differentiate itself by being a relatively powerful portable gaming system which Nintendo has always excelled with. Taking the concept in the other direction and stripping the switch of it's portability will not make for a good product except maybe for very few people in enthusiast circles who just refuse to accept that the Switch is portable device first.

Nope, just going around PPRuNe, but it lines up with reports from U.S. intelligence that heat signals commensurate with a SAM strike were detected. Telegram is also huge in Iran and how a lot of grassroots media and information dissemination happens, so makes sense that's where it'd be getting shared.I would guess that the aircraft didn't burst into flames immediately. The other videos of the aircraft on fire just before impact are fairly low to the ground. From the point of loss of ADS-B data to crash site is 2-3 minutes of flight time. This video only shows 15 or so seconds post alleged intercept. Also, look at the following coordinates: 35.489244, 50.907144 Camera angle about north-northwest from there.U.S. fighter jets have much more sophisticated anti-SAM defenses when compared to a commercial airliner, so no, it's not clear it would've been shot down (but seems Iran would've tried, and who can blame them).

Thread Are you cheap if you don’t tip? (American tipping culture)
Yes, they cannot dock your pay below the minimum wage. Same as they must pay you minimum wage if you don't meet it with tips. Nobody with a tipped minimum wage is getting paid less than the federal/state minimum wage applicable to them. So if you work 40 hours in a pay period, and minimum wage is (for argument's sake), $10/hr, you will not make less than $400 when any deductions or tips are taken into account. If your tipped hourly wage was $5/hr, but you only made $100 in tips, that'd be 40hr * $5 = $200 + $100 tips = $300. Your employer would have to add $100 to your paycheck to ensure you made minimum wage. In the same vein, if you had made $300 in tips, and your total pay was $500 that pay period, they could theoretically dock your pay up to $100, so that you meet minimum wage, but not below that. In practice, very little to no employers are ever going to dock pay for something like a dine and dash as it's just too messy and definitely not worth entertaining any potential legal challenges. It's hardly what most "most places" do. ERA loves to misrepresent the shit out of stuff like this. Tipped employees also virtually never end up making below minimum wage after tips (and are often well above minimum wage), so the employer matching to minimum wage almost never comes up, but is the law and only the most reckless of establishment would be brazen enough to ignore this law, or a rogue shitty manager.Sorry, sounds like you have a shit manager. I've voided plenty of mistakes, dine and dashes, etc. I've also caught employees defrauding the restaurant by retroactively and systemically adding discounts (like the employee discount) to cash orders then pocketing the difference ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Hardly means everyone does it.

Only if they want a world of federal legal trouble. But despite the parade of sorrow that often ensues when this topic comes up on ERA, servers typically make so much fucking money off tips, even on slower nights, that you basically never encounter this scenario to begin with. That's not even counting states like California, where tipped employees cannot have a base wage lower than minimum. So in some places, like San Francisco, servers make $15/hr+tips. I've worked food service, both delivering and serving in-house. I made a comically large amount of money as a college student working part-time. My partner at the time fully funded 3 international trips after graduation by working part time as a server as well. I also got stiffed (sometimes multiple times in a day) and had people who tipped me shit (rounded up the nearest dollar, only tipped $1, etc). I still made bank. Not everyone tips. If you're a competent food service professional you contend with the fact instead of becoming bitter and crying about it, and letting it ruin how you do your job. You serve a multitude of customers and if you keep a good attitude and positive outlook, you'll do well. I had many $500+ nights this way. I knew lots of staunch complainers who for some reason never seemed to make any money. Wonder why.

Thread Are you cheap if you don’t tip? (American tipping culture)
This is precious since we all know in practice FOH makes more than BOH in almost any setting, even when taking into account customers who don't tip. With that said, if for reason you do not make it to hourly minimum wage with tips as FOH, your employer has to pay the difference to get your wage to minimum. It's imaginable that many FOH staff might not even know this since it's unlikely they've ever landed at below minimum wage after tips. People love to bitch and moan about tipping but nobody really gives a shit about how overworked and underpaid BOH is, where best case scenario they get a minuscule share of FOH tips, consistently still putting them well below the pay FOH gets. The truth is FOH staff work directly with customers and get salty as they take getting stiffed as some kind of personal slight, when in reality you know damn well you're generally making bank for unskilled work, that's why you're working as a server and not a minimum wage job somewhere else.

I literally got a 5 minute disclaimer recently when trying to order "Thai spicy" level of heat (per the menu) at a Thai place, with multiple confirmations over whether I had eaten there before, they won't take it back if it's too hot, etc. It took a solid amount of convincing to get them to even serve me the "hot", which I conceded as it was one below "Thai spicy", and asked for additional pepper on the side. It was definitely still not hot enough for my palette and they should've just given me the "Thai spicy" to begin with. I look white but am Brazilian. My partner is watching this and I’m tagging along and it’s so fucking bad. Everything is so overtly dramatic and poorly acted. It's JS. And this will heavily depend on what kinds of projects you're working on. If it's Android development, that's going to be Java or Kotlin. iOS/macOS, obj-c or Swift, so on. But JS is used in a bunch of different segments because of its high versatility and the fact a lot of modern products are developed web-first and easily ported with frameworks such as React Native.

Thread Intro to Computer Science
If you think python is "the most advanced programming language right now", I think you have some ways to go in your knowledge. I'd look into bootcamps (some are online) and use webdev as your gateway into a career in tech. If you're cut out for it, a bootcamp will help you structure learning and work so that you have a hirable portfolio by the time you're done. You'll get out of it what you put in, and the chances of landing a job are pretty good in the major tech hubs. With that said, if you're a good, motivated, self-learner, you can find resources online to teach yourself. You could check out something like this: My experience is a lot of people see coding as a magic solution to their career aspirations, but without a CS degree, you're going to have to put in real work to understand the tech world, and it goes beyond just learning to code. Totally possible with dedication and focus, I've seen many friends and colleagues do it, but it isn't an inherently easy path.Shifting blame on stuff like this doesn't really display the maturity I'd expect out of someone trying to self-teach an entirely new career. Sometimes professors suck. The onus falls on you to work with the hand you're dealt, even if that means putting in the effort to compensate for a substandard professor. I'd keep this narrative away from peers/recruiters/hiring managers when you start your job search.

Thread Intro to Computer Science
I mean whatever the reasons may be -- that's fine I'm just saying that once you're out trying to get a job and potentially having this line of conversation with recruiters, peers, etc, it'd be wise to not bring up blaming a professor for not passing a class, even if you perceive that to be the reason you didn't. It comes across and shifting accountability off of yourself, and would turn off a large number of employers.

Valve sets basically no schedules, hence Valve Time. Yes, there are lots of half-built and abandoned projects, because at Valve people are not afraid to admit when something isn't working out and it's time to move on. I saw lots of stuff get canned because frankly it was not the kind of product Valve wanted to put out, and there is no pressure from external stakeholders on things having to ship or recoup development time.

Things like DOTA, Steam, CS, and TF2 were all low hanging fruit with lots of potential. Half-Life was mildly terrifying to work on. Also, at Valve, your overall compensation is highly tied to success of the things you work on. It has changed a bit over the last couple of years since they restructured base comp to be higher and less of total comp tired to year-end bonus, but that was the case when I was there. This has been detailed in the interview for HL: A, I think, but lots of potential options were explored for their first big flagship VR title, and lots of options were explored for continuing HL, and none of them made anyone excited at the time, so nobody worked on it.It's totally possible that before the acquisition they talked to Campo Santo and scoped out whether they'd be excited to work on other things as part of their merger. But this isn't big bad Valve making Campo Santo abandon their life's work or something.

How Valve operates at a core level is not PR. Valve does not have management telling you what to work on. If you are a Valve employee, you choose what to work on. Once Campo Santo joined Valve, every individual at Campo Santo was free to choose how to use their time, not directed what to work on.

That was reality for me. With that said, I can't speak for everyone, and Valve is a big company. In my experience, there are "shadow structures" and politics that will happen at any company that adopts flat/no management. Certain people's opinions are very important, and you figure out who those people are pretty quick. You are very much at liberty to work on whatever you deem important, and it's in your best interest to convince others the thing you want to work on are the right things, or else you'll have a hard time recruiting people to work on it with you. It's not hard to believe a lot of Campo Santo joined Valve and decided their time was better spent on other prominent Valve projects.

It was honestly already a crazy amazing experience back then, Valve has poured so much love, care, and though into the next story in the Half-Life universe. I can’t even imagine how much they’ve polished it these last two years. If the direction is still the same as it was some time ago, there’s another huge announcement tied to this that’ll likely happen simultaneously or soon after, which nobody has heard or mentioned anything of. That could mean it was scrapped or is under particularly tight wraps. I’m hoping for the latter :)Knowing Valve they caught wind of the leaks and decided to drop it themselves so as to cut the press cycle short from all the absurd speculation.

I can assure you HL VR is very much not a "VR promo" but in fact a fully fledged AAA VR title. The reality of it is they are working on pretty big things that I think people like yourself will be happy to see from them (admittedly, I can see how people would think otherwise, given Artifact). This doesn't just mean going back to their old IPs, but also a focus on new IPs. I can't speak to whatever is going on with Campo Santo since they joined after I had left, but Valve has a penchant for being very quiet about their moves and it would make sense for Campo Santo to follow that silence after joining them.

You have to be in neutral and clutch pedal must be disengaged. The motor restarts as soon as you touch the clutch. If you keep the clutch in and the car in gear at rest, it'll never turn off. I believe that when in Sport mode it disables auto start/stop. I can't speak for whether this is any different in the M2 vs. the M235i though.

The manuals have it :) Mine was a 6spd. I always found the transition pretty smooth but I can see how people might not love it. The reason lots of people in tech do this is so we don’t accidentally dial into a meeting when working remotely and show our stupid face to an entire meeting room if we forget to disable video before joining. It has close to zero to do with worrying about having someone watch you through your webcam. Most likely explanation is this is a way to optimize opening the camera faster for taking pictures for your feed/story. Lots of companies with camera-centric functionality are obsessed with how fast you can open the camera in-app. But nobody here is going to accept any explanation short of a full blown conspiracy.
