once you go ultra wide, then going ultra-ultra wide isn't that big of a deal.. so yes.. out of the box: proof: no textures, means no blur, no stretching.. crisp for miles

HDR rendering is in the game, HDR10 and specific HDR monitor support is I believe supported by Unity3d out of the box. Although HDR and all its forms is a bit of a obscure art, as they slap HDR on anything nowadays.. Xbox also supports HDR rendering, and if it supports hdr10 , it should stand to reason that's what you'll get.. it's just moar numbers really..

Hi Everyone, It's extremely busy at the moment, but did want to do a small update through a bunch of gifs First off more discovery cinematics (might rename this), but now during combat when a major capital ship arrives, you get a little intro: In between mission production and QOL improvements, I had a little sanity fiddle with the Title Sequence, shan't spoil it, but the ending now transitions smoothly into the main menu.. kinda happy with it, I love making things slick and smooth, give it that AAA like level of attention. (I don't sleep much..;) A little shot of one of the setpieces at a sunken temple that's been revealed. These were all shownbefore, but the new shadows on water (it's a tech art holy grail, even the Xbox floating cube on water anim doesn't have that.. muhahaha) does add a lot, as does the new DOF option for camera mode. One of the things that I really enjoy in the hand made campaigns is getting the perfect locations for ships to park in a battle. As a lot of it is generated, it's nice to have that option in the stories. Like here where one of the bosses , a Dreadnot is taking on a Mancer Questor on the edge of the Maw And finally a quick shot of some pirates, that shows of shadows and reflections on the water. One of the reasons is that depth blend effects such as the little water edge foam where ships intersect the water and the little hint of the ship's hull underwater, require a depth buffer and the ocean to then be slightly transparent (otherwise the depth cant render into it).. That usually negates shadows , as those require something solid for the shadows to "fall"on,, but due to a quirck of the (poetically) built-in or older Render Pipeline I'm using, It is actually possible with some fiddling (had help on this one) to actually combine something where the fancy new pipeline gets stuck. hurrah Also the Discord got verified,, and new stuff there will kick off in the coming weeks as well Don't forget to wish list on steam, help the game get traction and ultimately be a success! (I have 3 kids......counting on this) Cheers Tomas

Thread The Falconeer will launch day one on Series X - 4K60
So launches and time windows can change everything,, but let me say that the "at least 4k60" part means exactly that,, you've got to take your time pushing perf and fx and see where its constant in every situation. And even though the artstyle is abstracted and clean (don't call it cartoonie, cuz it most certainly is not), but even with its simpler aesthetic it does push a fair amount of current/nextgen/weird tricks, and those don't come for free on any platform. Just doing an ocean world requires some technical hoops that aren't CPU light for instance. That said its a game that leaves a lot of performance space to fool around with to do cool stuff, and I love doing cool stuff, and i'll be doing cool stuff to the , right up to when the discs get printed and beyond. Sorry I can't get technical, or super specific, but that is a bit par the course for a new gen,, its all figuring out experimenting and keeping things quiet until you'r not quiet anymore .

Hi everyone its time for another animated gif based update There's certainly some more new locations on the Ursee A new discovery mechanic is also in, and should make exploration a lot more satisfying: This one is still in development but having jetstreams high up in the air is already a great addition to the game: And there's always room for a giant Crab . hit its weak spots for massive damage eh. And a new vehicle the imperial fast gunship, taking rigid airships to new speeds and mobility; And finally still working on releasing the kraken. As always hope you enjoy these updates. for more info there's a discord and a steam page. If you want to support the game, it's being made by just me and any sharing, following etc (you know how it works) is truly appreciated. Stay safe and stay inside. And hope to show you more soon..

Certainly.. but my first goal is to get it solid 60 on all xbox devices. But on top of that the XBox one X is a different beast, and I can find plenty of use for its capabilities. and increased resolution of at least above 1440 if not 4K is a target.. Don't pin me down on it though.,. that'll take a fair bit of work.. But I'll have a fiddle for sure ;)

There are a number of classes, Each class comes with its own bird that has a number of stats. I'm not claiming its a deep stats system, but they will influence your perfomance. currently you can upgrade stats through mutagens you can purchase, but I'm also contemplating other ways such as trainers, or even an XP system. There's also a bunch of different weapon types and qualities to customize your bird as well as 6 slots for different types of ammo. A little preview of the current character creation screen. (portraits and names are generated procedurally based upon seed). I'm always balancing such mechanics (like a proper XP system) with something that is also generating ingame content, such as unlocking trainers for upgrades. So a lot of choices are streamlined because they lead to more in-world discovery or travel even. I have a loooong list of nice 2 haves, and I'll add some of the crazier rpg-ish ideas probably post launch (I love the Idea of a player owned "base" you get to upgrade as well, stuff like that, and more focus on gearing is also on there).

HI everyone another update! I have been working on lots of things, but one particularly nice one where some bigger "towns" to flesh out the world here's a snippet of that in flight Also quite important is some new moves to improve the bird's agility , it includes an emergency dive and airbrake. And for this interested I have a long history with skyrim modding, and the Nexus mods did an interview on that topic and the journey to The Falconeer: And a litte WIP work on unlocking lesser shrines: See you at PAX!

would love to hear what didn't feel right about the flying. ;) any feedback is honestly very welcome. especially about controls and preferences, there are so many different control styles to accommodate. Also noticed some people really flying into everything, where-as others just picked it up and flew around gracefully. So finding specific issues that hamper people is top of my list .

Thank you so much, that's useful feedback. Well the flight model is quite smooth, but there is one trick that isn't well explained in the tutorial and those are the acrobatics. In combat you can you use potential energy to do really rapid and sharp barrel turns. It's a bit like throwing the bird around to make near instant turns. ;) With regards with the goals and such, that is all under development now,, to be honest I was glad I was able to rush in a number of tutorials. At pax I'll both be there and there will be a number of sample missions that do very specific goals and much much much better. well there's some things I'm sure you'll dig, much about the storytelling as well. well won't spoil ;)

Hi everyone another update: Just a reminder the Falconeer is now on steam, wishlist if you like what you see, and you are tangibly helping with bringing the game forward! Development update: The focus the last couple of weeks has still been on improving the content variations , specifically through ship combat. So here are some screens of that: There are 4 main factions, and they have their own vessels, but also their own level of technology. (technology isn't a linear progression in this world). it's all late sail/early steam era. With one dreadnaught playing a big role in the story, ushering in a new age. I kinda dig historical ships;) The Mancer order is the faction controlling knowledge and technology, they have a fairly unorthodox ideology. Their play is to control kings and warlords by handing out permits and tools for specific technologies, while keeping the dangerous stuff hidden away in their vaults. Their ships are more mythical, and designed to inspire fear of technology as much as they are powerful in itself. When put together complex battles are a possibility, as well as co-opting the surface vessel code for some cool sea-monsters! That covers the last 2 weeks with the exception of the exciting news that The Falconeer is going to be playable at PAX East! hope to see some of you there! Shipping up to Boston!

We're working on that as we speak, I'd like as much voice as possible, but it brings with a load of complications, especially as unlike say a 3rd person action adventure, the cast here is a lot more diverse, as in rpg territory. But Battlemaps specifcally are the ideal sequences to be voices, so those seem very very likely. Expect more news on this in the near future, with some cool announcements.

Any hope of a photomode for the final release? [/QUOTE] It's a given, It's just super enjoyable, especially in a high action combat moment, pause it,, zoom around, watching the fireworks go off. I've got some basic features for photomode now, the controls are still a bit wonky, as they extrapolate from your actual game cam, But you got all axis of movement, FOV and nightcycle control. That will all definetly be in the final build for users to enjoy and share from. Anything on top of that I can't confirm right now.

Thanks man, Too be honest It's what I enjoyed very much from my modding days (Moonpath to elsweyr, for skyrim, if anyone still remembers that), the fact that you could have a conversation with your players.. So this dev cycle is a little less public(with modding anyone could play the work in progress) that's sadly not practical now. But I do enjoy sharing and conversing pre-release about features and gameplay and whatnot. So glad to be here.

In the video I'm just doing some basic combat, but I'm also controlling the camera between its 3 modes, default 3rd person follow, TargetLook and right-stick orbit. They all interpolate smoothly so you can have quite a bit of useful situational awareness from using it. Normally when I dogfight It gets a bit more hectic, but toned it down for the video. ;) Also this is a placeholder mission, spawning a fairly simple X vs X amount of defenders and attackers. You can also spot stuff and debris falling off from the larger and smaller airships, some of this is just debris, bits'n bobs falling off from the explosive splash damage, but you can also target specific sub targets and destroy them and have the remains drop, such as turrets or engine parts. Additionally these have a critical hit chance of exploding themselves upon destruction, causing damage to the parent ship. On rare occasions you can actually have a cascade of exploding sub components. Enfin, a look at the harder action , for the people that felt the trailer was a bit too light on it.;)

So HDR rendering , which most games now support is a different animal from supporting HDR Screens which is a bit more engine and GPU dependent. HDR rendering is what the falconeer is doing at its core. And I believe HDR screen support is also available in unity3d now, so I don't see a reason not to support it. Platform restrictions not withstanding (xbox one supports HDR screens tho;)

So it's mostly a straight run and showing off some of the music. I see a lot of panzer dragoon and lair vibes. But I think gameplay wise, Crimson skies might be a better comparison. But in an open world setting a la freelancer. After all the xbox announce hubbub dies down I'll probably have time to do some commentaries on the various gameplay mechanics. I think at this point, nearly everything you do trailer wise is going to be a cliche. So I kinda feel what you'r saying;) I think If I went for a metal or techno track, then it would be just as cliche, but with a different emotion altogether. And in the end I didn't want a standard "action" trailer as well, or even worst default fantasy choir music;) Sherry Dyanne who composed and sang this song specifically for the trailer added something truly special in my opinion to what could have been a quite generic action trailer. So I'm super stoked and grateful that someone that talented would use her voice for my game. I think Its a matter of taste in the end. (I just had to stick up for the song and the trailer, hope you don't mind ;)
