Yep, had this exact issue. My KB/M just stop working (they're connected via a KVM as I also have my work laptop hooked up to the same monitor) and the only way to get round it was to drop the PCIe to gen3. It's fine now, but would like to get whatever minimal benefits there are from PCIe4 with my 3080

Yeah, it's going about as well as everyone who thought about it critically for half a second expected. Little Englanders are the worst.

Thread What are some prayers or philosophies or anything that you find comfort in?
My dad passed 13 years ago this month, and I was in a very similar boat to you. It's a completely normal feeling, and it's part of the process. I know it's going to sound hollow coming from a stranger on the internet, but my DMs are open if you want to vent. The one thing that someone said to me in the immediate aftermath of his passing that stuck with me beyond anything else was "Don't try and get over it. Just learn to live with it". You shouldn't ever feel like you need to be "moving past" anything, and that was the thing that kept me going. I just took solace in the fact that I had some incredible memories with my dad, and as time went on I became more and more grateful for that. I was angry for a long, long time, but I realised that I wasn't going to change anything or become a better person by being resentful. So in terms of a "philosophy" for life, I try and just live by a simple "don't be a dick" mantra and just try to be the best person I can be, being as true to the memory of my dad as I can be. My mental health takes major hits every so often, but I've never been as low as I was in the year following his death. Stay strong. It's easier said than done, but take it a day at a time.

My little cave. LG 48CX OLED, PS5, Series X, Switch, PS4 (for comparison stuff). PC (R5 3600, RTX 3080), work laptop, homepod Mini. Tried to make it as clean as I could, but there's some drawbacks to living in rented accommodation. The cabinet next to my desk contains my Lego Dimensions collection, press kits and "games biz trinkets", as well as the random stuff I've bought/received over the years. Hidden right at the back is a 500m PS4 Pro that I'm really not sure what to do with at this point! Chair is an old Cineworld chair that I salvaged from an old one that was being shut down. I use a Turtle Beach TAC and some wired headphones, as well as a Stream Deck next to the chair to control bits on the PC. Also love my Tom Whalen and Olly Moss prints which are everywhere :D (The cables next to the Series X are from the Series S which is currently in my living room)

I get the guy's frustration. Used to be on an IT Support desk for a pretty damn big organisation. There were meant to be 6 of us, in my 4 years there we only ever had 4. When something went down (Which was *frequent*), the phones lit up and had a queue of about 20 people waiting. Used to just answer the phone with "Hello IT, we're aware of an issue with the internet/server x". In this thread that you've quoted? Yes. But please, continue being hostile to me when I said I wasn't trying to downplay anything, but suggesting maybe "Dropping like flies" was a bit of an overreaction. I'm not trying to disprove anything, it sucks if it happens but these kinds of issues are to be expected during new tech launches. Shit breaks, it's not ideal but it's what it is, sadly. Maybe if you'd put a thread title like "Dual Sense issues seem to be increasing" or "Has anyone else seen this?" then maybe people would've thought you'd meant "Dual Sense issues seem to be increasing"? I dunno, I just don't think inflammatory thread titles are the best way to get your point across and actually provoke a discussion.

Thread The $70 Price Tag Is Actually Indefensible (The Jimquisition)
Being the editor of a hobbyist site gives me a lot of perks, including review codes (and on the odd occasion a code for personal use after launch if we're tight with the PR). It's a privilege, and I try and take it into account when I review stuff. I'm in a relatively well paid full time job on top of it so if I need to I can pick up anything that's missed that we need to pick up for coverage. Disclosure out of the way, it's 100% right that $70/£60 is too much for the vast majority of games out there. Maybe if companies were to quit making those at the top rake in 8 or 9 figures a year in bonuses while firing entire teams after a project's done, there'd be a bit more sympathy with the decision (ha! Just got to that point in the vid). Also, EA makes over a billion dollars a year from FIFA Ultimate Team. Plus the base cost of the game. Spare me the sob story. When an executive could essentially make everyone in the company a millionaire without breaking a sweat on their personal bottom line, I fail to see the argument.

Thread PlayStation 5 - Review Thread
Here's my review: The DualSense is a gamechanger. The SSD is *ludicrously* fast. Like... "Under 30 seconds to get into a fist fight in Miles Morales from a cold boot" levels of fast. Activities will eliminate any waiting going forward if devs use them properly. The UI feels really nice with a bit of familiarity. Backward compatibility has been drastically understated. Locked 60fps on all unlocked frame rates (that I tested) levels of understated. The fan is silent. I had to put my ear next to it after an hour of gameplay of Miles to even begin to hear it. Annoyingly the drive isolation for the discs hasn't worked as well as I'd have hoped. Installing Sekiro still made a big hum that went through my furniture and amplified it. Movies didn't seem to be so bad though. No Dolby Vision or Atmos for now. 4k60HDR is in YUV422. Spidey is great. Astro is an incredible demo for the DualSense. Videos: Throw questions at me if you want. I'm probably going to be half asleep though. Bed at 2, up at 6 alongside a full time job for the past week and a half has damn near killed me! I hope it's well received though, I can't believe I'm fortunate enough to be in this position...

Particularly if you're sticking with 1080p for a bitYou'll see the resolution and frame rate bump etc, but not the loading timesEh, s'alright ;) (Seriously though, it's a good second box. If you've got a PS5 on order, or if you have a PC, or if you're still on 1080p, or you're not *that* fussed about all the terry-flops, then it's great)

*based on what we can say right now* The DualSense is a fucking game changer. I cannot *WAIT* to see the reactions of people when it gets into their hands. The feel of Astro running across sand feels markedly different to walking across metal, which feels different to walking across wood. Then the triggers. Holy shit. The cable itself seems to be fine, it's doing 4K 120Hz HDR without issue, it's just when G-Sync gets involved...Cheers, I'll give it a go - have noticed that there's a few people saying it's not worked for folks in Europe, but will try anyway... The other weird thing that I've been finding is this. If I extend my desktop to include the TV, it works perfectly fine. If I set it to display to the TV only, it just says there's no input, regardless of G-Sync being enabled. Even if I drop the resolution down to 1080p, it doesn't show, so it's not a bandwidth/cable thing at that point. The audio device for the TV still shows up in the setting, it's literally just the display! Will see if that firmware fixes things

I've been a Lincoln fan since I was 4. We've not played the reigning champions of England in nearly 150 years. I'm devastated we couldn't be in the stands tonight, but credit to Liverpool for not holding back and showing us what the Premier League is about. Scored 2, I'm happy. I couldn't have cared if we shipped double figures tonight, we got £125k from Sky, which is going to be a MASSIVE boost to the club still being here in 12 months time. The lack of matchday income from fans is going to kill clubs at our level, and this hopefully goes some way to preventing that.

I've just plonked down orders for the trifecta (3080, PS5, Series X) - I think honestly just choice is probably the reason at this point. If I ever want to game in my living room rather than my office, I can very easily take my console downstairs and plug it in, as opposed to lugging my entire PC downstairs. Other main reason is for the selection on console Game Pass. I strongly suspect I'll end up playing most multi platform games on PC for the first time ever with this generation, but if a game is on console GP but not PC, I'll play it there.

Zeroing in on one aspect of that particular TV is a bit of a shitty argument though. As mentioned above, I picked up a CX recently and it's absolutely transformed my gaming experience even in 1080p, the picture quality is that damn good. Having VRR/Freesync is an added bonus that will smooth out anything in the 40+fps range to the point you'll likely not notice frame drops as much. You realise the irony in that statement, right?

If by burning, you mean spending, then yep. Some people spend thousands on a car living in a rented property. Some people spend thousands on gaming in a rented property (like myself). Some people spend nothing, saving every penny and buying a house without enjoying their life. I dream of owning a home one day too, but I don't go and shit on people's purchases because can't afford/don't want to buy them. To each their own. No need to be a dick about it. (FWIW, I've been in a position where I was so broke I couldn't afford the sleeping pills I wanted to take my own life with. I've been in some really shitty situations and positions. But I've been fortunate to end up in a decent job that allows me to do pretty much what I want to do at the minute. I came to realise that trying to bring people down over things they bought or enjoyed just wasn't worth it. As long as people are happy, who gives a shit?)

I totted up the cost of my PC the other week, it came to just over £2k. I bought a 48" LG CX OLED for my office/games room - £1500. I'm planning on upgrading my GPU to a 3080 - £7/800. I'm planning on getting a PS5 at launch - £500(?), and probably getting a Series X on All Access. It doesn't bother me. People I know ask me why I spend so much on gaming stuff, but they sink thousands into a flashy car, or go out and spend £100+ on a night out (pre-covid, naturally). I don't do those things, so I'm happy to spend money on things I enjoy. The TV also does Freesync premium, which the consoles will support

It only happens with blues/greys, and it's only started over the past few months... It's not like 'normal' posterisation/banding, and no amount of tweaking solves the problem. When you pause it in certain places, the edges of the problem areas actually flicker quite a lot as well, which suggests to me that it's a processing fault rather than banding. It looks a lot, lot worse in motion, to the point where certain scenes in movies become completely unwatchable...

When loading screens in TLOU2 come up there's very pixellated halo effects that flicker around the flies/bugs that show up in the top right corner... E3 feels like it's been coasting on its name recognition alone for the past couple of years, and with them opening it up to the public and all the surrounding fuck ups, it's not good.

Thread Best Philips TV for gaming with ambilight
I have an 803 OLED in my living room, and It’s honestly the best tv I’ve ever used. I bought it after the Android 8update rolled out and have had no real software issues to speak of. However, it’s rare that I game on it (I have a games room/office for that). It’s honestly fine for the vast majority of games I play, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it for hosting a fighting game tournament. 40ms sounds high to me, but I’ve not done any measurements on my set.

Thread What were the greatest sports moments of the 2010s?
Personally, it's this. And it's not even remotely close. I lost my dad in 2008, and couldn't go back to watch my football club after he passed as it was just too painful. Then, almost 9 years to the day, I went back to watch my team, languishing in the non-league, take on a team 3 divisions higher in the FA Cup. And in the dying moments, this happened. i still get goosebumps. This led to us going on a run for the history books, becoming the first non-league club in over 100 years to get to the quarter finals of the competition, 2 promotions and another trophy in 3 years, and led to the manager being poached by a club in a higher league, sadly. This moment put football back in my heart.

This. Bury are about to get kicked out of the EFL on Friday, because of a fucking conman with an overly inflated sense of his own self worth. Steve Dale has no right to be anywhere near a football club, yet here he is, with a club that's got over a hundred years of history, and it's going to go pop because he wants to make a quick £3m. For those unaware, the company carrying out the administration of Bury FC, RCR Holdings, was registered in July. There's one director. That director is the partner of Steve Dale's daughter. There are assets of £100, yet apparently Bury owe them £7m. With Bury having games suspended left and right, and Bolton seemingly doing whatever they want, it's throwing the season into chaos already. It's August. Not a Bury fan, we (Lincoln) came up with them last season, Please, whoever you support, try and make whatever noise you can about getting rid of Steve Dale from Bury FC and keeping the club alive. Thread TV Displays and Tech Thread |OT2| There Is No Perfect TV ™ (Read The OP)
My 55" Philips 803 OLED arrived yesterday, and I'm absolutely blown away. Going from an 8 year old Samsung 6 Series LED (which isn't a bad 1080p set) to this is just... Holy shit. Some of the reviews for this set have put it ahead of the C9 in terms of PQ even though they're using the same panel. Uniformity is great, no DSE that I've seen with any calibration images I've used. The ambilight feature is beautiful when set up correctly as well. I've got it set to slightly less bright than default, so it doesn't overwhelm the set. Hopefully going to get some games through it tonight - Got a PS4 slim in the living room that's hooked up to it, and a Pro in the games room... Just need to see if I can convince the wife to give me some time taking the pro downstairs now!

Finally got wife approval/bit the bullet on a Philips 55" 803 OLED. Arrives on Monday. All reviews seem to point to it being on a par with the C8, if not besting it in a few categories, and it's got ambilight, which I love. Anyone had any hands-on with these? I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve right now!

Philips 9002 OLED is £1199 on Prime Day. I'm a sucker for ambilight and have been waiting for details of the 803... I really want to pull the trigger on a new set but I know I'm not getting wife approval on it for a while :P

Wrong way round. The patch is live now, it doesn't allow saved games on *this* patch to be used on previous versions.

If you drop a container down the side of a mountain, it will roll down and potentially destroy the cargo inside it. However, if you're in a timefall storm, and it's eating away at the container, you can repair that damage before it starts to affect the cargo.

This thread... This thread is something else. Someone commented on our review on YT saying "This shouldn't be reviewed as a bad delivery simulator game" and proceeded to tell me how Kojima thinks for about 3 paragraphs... We gave the bloody thing a 9.5!

Are we seriously jumping back on board this train again? Story-heavy games, I get the need for completion before a review. But not every game has to be played to absolute completion to form an opinion on it. (I try and finish most of the games I'm reviewing, FWIW)

Sometimes, you don't need to finish a game to know where you're landing on it. I reviewed Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, and within 20 minutes I knew where my score was going to be. It was fucking awful.

Without Batman, Arkham Asylum would be crap. Without football, FIFA would be rubbish. Incredible insight, there. The game is what it is, with all components contributing to it.

The game finds a way to make it so they aren't completely permanent.

Gonna drop this in here once more after the chaos that was embargo time. Would really appreciate if y'all could watch and share. We're a small site but we occasionally get stuff to hit embargo, and it's a chance to prove we can hang with the big boys

Thread Days Gone |OT| A Deacon of Hope
30 hours is about right. Might be a better place to post this instead of the pit that the review thread has become! I really enjoyed it. (Our review FWIW: ) Anyway - the people piling in on that line of dialogue from the wedding - don't. There's another cutscene later on that gives it a shitload of context and makes an admittedly shitty joke somewhat endearing. The game's got flaws, and I was HEAVILY sceptical going in, but after spending a shitload of time with it, I found myself coming round to it. I was fortunate enough not to have some of the bugs that other reviewers have had, but I can see that they'd royally fuck up a score if I did. Anyway, reviews are opinions & all that jazz, as someone who legitimately enjoyed it in the face of some overwhelming negativity, I'm happy to answer questions (might be in the morning as it's nearly midnight here!)
