Congrats on the score. I’ve had mine for about a week now and it’s been great. Super comfy and maintains great posture. And this thing is built like a tank (the Classics and not the newer Remastered) so I can tell it’ll last me for years, if not decades, to come.

Provided you're savvy enough to build your own PC, it's always best to build your own rig. With these boutique pre-built gaming PC outlets, they inevitably have to cut corners (cheaper, perhaps off-brand OEM components) somewhere to cover overhead for running the business and turn a profit. Or you will pay more to get the same high quality components vs. building your own. For the same amount of money, you will get higher quality components, have it _exactly_ the way you want it, AND it will grant you the opportunity to learn the inner workings of your PC. That being said, for a complete newbie trying to get into PC gaming, pre-builts are still a decent option provided they give you hassle-free tech support and warranty coverage.

Oof...well that is rough. Sorry to hear about that. My next go-to would be the PSU. If you have another desktop PC with a known good PSU, try Frankensteining it into the suspect PC and see if that fixes the issue. If that doesn't solve it, I suspect it's the motherboard.

With the whole shelter-in-place / work-from-home situation, I shopped around for a pre-owned butt high quality ergo chair. Just picked up one these bad boys thru Craigslist: Normally, a brand new fully loaded Herman Miller Aeron chair above costs $1400. Pre-owned, you can get ‘em for around $225 - $350 depending on options that comes (or doesn’t come) with it. It also serves as an AWESOME gaming chair so my lower back and butt is already thanking me.

Haha :) Well, before I got this chair, I was sitting on a super comfy recliner chair for gaming sessions. Short term it was fine, but an extended session did make my back go out of whack because of the poor posture. Then again, it’s an individual thing so your mileage may vary. Nonetheless, I think it’s worth investing in a decent chair. These high end industrial chairs are built like tanks backed by a 12 year warranty, and for the asking I sure hope so. The Aeron chair above is a tried and true design and has been around for more than 20 years, and very little has changed from the core design since its introduction. If you can find one for a good price, I think it’s worth it. Check your local Craigslist and OfferUp — they can be had for around $300 give or take. Sit it in it; try it before you buy. For anyone interested, there are three sizes so to choose from so make sure to look for the appropriate size. Size chart:

Similarly, I bought an Aeron due to the shelter-in-place/work-from-home mandate in my state (CA). I picked a pre-owner one off of Craigslist and man, are these comfy and ergonomic. Top quality stuff And built to last too. Got mine for $250 cash, but most seem to be selling for around $300-$400 range depending on what options it comes with. Either way, it was money well spent and my back thanks me. I highly recommend these. EDIT: Definitely check the seat size chart before you buy. ↓

Thread Recommend me a gaming Headset that has a great mic for WFH
I swear by the Arctic Pro Wireless headset. A little pricier but the convenience and quality far outweighs the cost for me. 1) has Bluetooth so you can synch it to your phone. This allows you to hear BOTH game sound from your console/PC whatever and audio from your phone, and you can individually adjust volume mix between the two source. This has been the biggest game changer for me besides wireless freedom. With the whole “work-from-home” situation right now, this feature has been a blessing as I can ZOOM call from either my PC or iPhone/iPad, and pick up regular calls on my phone without any panic-inducing input switch-a-roos 2) It comes with two Li-on battery pack. One charges inside the slot of the audio mixer station while you use the other one. If battery runs out, you can swap in the freshly charged pack and place the used one In the charge slot. Each battery charge lasts about 8-10 hours continuous use Depending on volume level. There are other many other good stuff about this set you can read up from the below as it relates to gaming, but the above are what really sold me on this set.

Yeah, rule out that it’s a network interference issue first. If the problem persist, you likely have a faulty console or controller. If it IS a wireless interference issue, we’ll I’m not so sure. Maybe there’s an option in the router to shift channels or frequency range or something to that effect. I’m not knowledgeable enough to give you sound advice here. Thread Pour one out for another 2TB Seagate Firecuda failing
While purely anecdotal, I’ve experienced three HDD failures over a 15 year period and they all came from consumer grade Seagate drives. I’ve been using a mix of Hitachis, IBM Deskstar series, and Seagate cheetah/barracudas in various home applications from gaming PCs, home NAS network storage, to console external enclosures. I’ve also used 10K and 15K RPM Seagate highend mechanical drives in gaming PCs before SDDs became mainstream and while loud, those did not fail. That being said, I’ve became apprehensive towards Seagate because of prior failures. I avoid them whenever possible. Within the last 5-6 years or so, I‘ve been using HGST Helioseal mechanical internal drives given their industry leading low failure rate and they’ve been great in terms of performance, reliability and accoustics. I bought a couple of 6TB units on the cheap a while ago as well, threw it into an external enclosure, and use that for my Xbox and PlayStation. So far no issues whatsoever. Helioseal mechanical drives are a bit pricey but for me, the extra peace of mind was totally worth it. Helioseal drives started as enterprise solutions but they’ve made their way into consumer grade drives in recent years starting with Western Digital/HGST, and lately, Seagate. Might be worth looking into.

Thread Xbox Series X announced (formerly Project Scarlett)
“Xbox” is the platform or the brand and the model name is “Series X.” Xbox as a 20 year old brand is already ubiquitous enough that it probably doesn’t need to be a part of the official product name. Judging by their reveal trailer today (first row XBOX, second row Series X), I’d wager all of their ads will simply refer to this product as Series X. Phonetically, Series X is much easier to pronounce than “Xbox One X” or even just “Xbox.” Visually, they will always have that white Xbox globe logo visible so there’s no mistaking it’s the latest Xbox console. While the name may seem somewhat sterile, I think it’s a smart strategy. I dig it. As for text abbreviation in these boards, the name is short enough so I’d type Series X. Edit: Ugh. I meant to post the above in the ‘XSX, XbSX or XS’ thread. Still relevant so I’ll just leave it here. Edit 2: to further add, I think Microsoft is taking the same approach as . Tesla is the brand/platform and product names are Model S, Model 3, and so on.

Yep, Tim’s video was super informative and entertaining at the same time. He did a great job! Thread Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 |OT| Everything Else is Child's Play
Yeah, that could be the case too. There are two scenarios that I can think of. a) controller is still brand new and the controller reliably returns and holds its neutral position — except that firm neutral position may be off to begin with due to the mfg. tolerance or whatever variance there may be from one unit to another. For this, I can see the software may auto-detect and compensate to find its ‘new’ neutral position to prevent drifting. b) the analog stick module will inevitably wear in after months and years of use, and may no longer return or hold its neutral position as firmly as it used to compared to when it was brand new. I believe in this scenario the software can slightly expand the deadzone to compensate for the somewhat worn in analog pods. Well, I suppose time will tell how durable the new analog pods will be. Fingers crossed!

I can agree with that. I think independent developers have some more leeway and control (or lack of control depending on how you look at it) on when to release the game. Valve still can be impacted by that for the reason I noted earlier. Larger and publicly traded companies rarely move or miss dates since it affects stock price, distribution partners, and/or other partnership-related commitments.

That’s my understanding. If customers still want the game, they will need to hop back onto the store and pre-order/pre-purchase again.Maybe a clarification is in order. “Pre-order” is more commonly used for physical goods where you typically pay a small deposit (like $5 at a local GameStop) or pay nothing at all until the product is ready to ship. “Pre-purchase” on the other hand is a terminology we use for digital games since most platforms require full upfront payment when you ‘pre-order’ your game. So to answer your question, Steam offers pre-purchase for most games that are sold on their platform. Not pre-orders.

This may also be related FTC regulations (at least in the U.S.). I can’t find the page that specifically talks to this on ftc.gov, but I recall resellers (and this includes platform holders like Steam/PSN/Xbox/eshop) are required to automatically refund customers who pre-paid for a game if the product slips 30 days beyond the advertised release date. While Valve provides refunds on pre-purchases at any time and for post-launch titles if playtime is less than two hours & within two weeks of purchase, customers are still required to manually submit the request. I believe FTC regulation requires stores to automatically refund pre-order customers if the product release date lapse beyond the 30-day threshold. That can be painful for a reseller who may be hit with whatever credit card or bank processing fees that maybe be associated with the refund process. Just my hunch.

Thread Game devs of Resetera, how do leaks impact your work?
I can only speak from Capcom’s perspective, but it certainly would be deflating for our dev folks who have worked years on it before reveal, and it would impact our marketing plan to some degree. Leaks for smaller titles such as port projects that tend to leak via ratings agency are relatively benign as we can’t always control it. We expect some of it to happen. But leaks for major titles that are bound for reveal during a first party press conference would really sting. For any press conference material, we bring our A game with real gameplay footage and cutscenes and want it to be a genuine surprise for everyone. I’m sure many folks here understand, but there’s lots of coordination that happen behind the scenes between the dev team, marketing, sales, PR, social, and last but not the least, first party. From conceptualizing and storyboarding the trailer suitable for the show to coordinating specific announcement times and delivering assets so they also show up on first party channels right after announcement. Things of that sort that require months of planning, communication and coordination amongst stakeholders. ...and it leaks out of the blue. It just poo-poo’s everyone’s hard work who have been preparing for the reveal. Capcom, for the most part, have been fortunate. Looking back at RE7, MHW, RE2, and DMC5 in recent memory, most of them got through relatively unscathed with just a couple that leaked hours before the official reveal. At the end of the day, E3 is a ‘show’ in and of itself — an annual spectacle of showmanship and an opportunity to excite and delight fans and the media. We get it. Leaks are fun and exciting as it stokes fire and drives conversation before the official reveal. It’s just that early leaks deflate some of that excitement and eliminates the element of surprise.

Correctomundo. 60fps for RE4. RE0/1 will be 30fps — same as PS4/XB1. We also included an Achievements system within each game. In a nutshell, features/content, performance, and graphical fidelity are pretty much on par with current gen systems. The benefit here is that you can enjoy the same experience on-the-go or in docked mode.

Thread DF Retro: Virtua Racing Switch vs Every Console Port vs Model 1 Arcade!
On one hand, I would love to start playing VR this weekend. On the other hand... Wearing my business-side hat, this practice could hurt Sega’s business for their territory offices. More specifically, sales that would have normally been recognized as SOA / SOE sales will be accrued as Japan sales. If the practice becomes mainstream and western region sales suffer as a result, that could lead to Sega skipping release entirely for certain games and/or platform (in this case the Switch version), or worse, scaling back their operations in those ‘underperforming’ markets. That would be terrible. Of course, none of this would have been an issue if the game sim-shipped across all territories. Perhaps it’s a logistical issue (if they’re doing cartridge), additional localization/culturalization work needed for the Western markets, or Nintendo certification that’s adding to the delay. I wouldn’t know. As for me, I’m going to be patient and wait for the eventual U.S. release.

Ha, I’ll be sure check out your pawn and take him/her out on some quests. I’ve been renting pawns exclusively to those I befriended instead of complete rando’s. Port projects are usually one and done since they’re mostly outsourced (as is the case with DDDA), so any feature considerations are planned out before the dev contract is signed. With that in mind, I am not optimistic on adding gyro support post launch. Sorry...I also noticed while playing the game this past weekend. Hopefully the fix will be quick. The timing is terrible though since many folks in Japan are out this week due to Golden Week holiday...one of the biggest, if not *the* biggest holiday break in Japan. Edit: I recognize that name. Wholeheartedly agree. It is absolutely stunning. The graphical assets holds up REALLY well in 2019. It’s hard to believe this came out in 2008. It’s been over 10 years ago since I played this game and I hardly remember the game. It’s like playing a whole new game again. The only knock I had against the game back when it originally released were the gameplay slow downs and the severe frame rate drop when action got intense and chopped limbs start flying all over the screen. All of those issues so far appears to have been remedied it’s running at near 4K resolution. Absolutely stunning. Huge props to Microsoft back compat team for a job well done! Thread My interest in gaming has hit an all time low today
I’m 48, married with two children, and still try to squeeze in 2-4 hours a week of game time. Though my play time is sporadic and limited due to work and other IRL commitments, I do find games as a mean to unwind from my busy lifestyle. One recommendation is to stick with one game at a time, play it at least once a week even if it’s just an hour, and finishing it to completion. Preferably a non-GaaS type game. Or a short, iterative, arcade-style game that doesn’t require long term commitment or has a grandiose ‘ending’ that you need to work towards. I’ve experienced gaming withdrawal couple of years ago when I juggled several games at a time. I ended up dabbling only a few hours per game just to get a taste of each, and then dropped most of them due to IRL commitments. The problem is when you set the game down for more than a couple of weeks, you forget where you left off. The byproduct of this is that you lose motivation to go back in. You think, “Do I restart to get the full experience or f the story/plot line and power through it?” Either option is not great as it becomes a stress/nuisance. So back to my original point: try sticking with one major game at a time and finish it. There is nothing more rewarding than the catharsis and the lingering sensation of accomplishment you feel when you complete a game. It’s what drives me to look forward to picking up the next game. Good luck! Edit: I also tend to stay away from competitive online multiplayer games. I don’t have the time commitment nor energy to stay competitive. And losing sucks. I don’t play games to get my ass handed to me every single time by randos. :)

Assets are of higher quality than those included in the original release, so texture fidelity and overall image quality will be better than above. As far as memory footprint is concerned, it will of course vary depending on the monitor resolution due to differing frame buffer requirements. Graphics options you enable will also have a slight impact on memory usage. The 8GB memory mentioned in the blog post is on the upper end when using 2160p resolution. We'll have more details in the next Steam blog post.

Thread PSA: Don't bother with Devil May Cry 5 on PC if you suffered stuttering/freezing in Resident Evil 2 Remake
Much appreciated. As you can imagine, the biggest challenge with these type of issues, given its apparent impact on small number of users, is dev/QA's inability to reproduce it. They only have a finite number of PC configuration, and even with the same hardware setup, there's no guarantee they'll be able to replicate the problem. Either way, a DXDiag log should give devs a good indication on the test environment which may potentially lead to discovering the core issue.

When you walk slowly towards the door, they will place their hand in front and gently push the door open. That’s very odd. Which country are you located in? FYI, DDDA does not have any country restriction whatsoever, at least from our end. Only Germany is restricted for Dead Rising. Are there any other games you noticed that aren’t purchaseable? This could be a bug on Steam’s end.

Thread According to SteamSpy , Monster Hunter world is now over 5M on Steam
Ha, well I would be more forthcoming if I was an indie developer. :) With Capcom being a publicly traded company, it's on IR (Investor Relations) to manage and share forecasts and sales results. Hope you understand. Either way, we're super thrilled with how things have turned out for Monster Hunter on the PC, thanks to everyone's support. (and patience!)

I’ll check with community/customer support person. Is there an active forum thread you can point me to discussing the specific issue at hand? Either way, if it’s a widespread issue I’m positive they’ve flagged it as an urgent matter and escalated it to R&D. Usually they’d ask for details such as the user’s system/OS/driver information via DXdiag system log so they can attempt repro.

Thread Controllers on Steam randomly stopped working mid-way through games.
Do you use third party controller remapper apps? (e.g., DS4WINDOWS) If yes, I’d try uninstalling any of those controller apps first and then let the Steam client auto-detect the controller.

Itsuno used the term "じゃじゃ馬 (ja-ja-uma)" and "おてんば娘 (otenba-musumé)" to describe the Tomboy Devil Beaker. Ja-ja-uma is basically an untamed horse...a stallion. And otenba-musumé is...well you know what a is. Simply put, it's a weapon that's too powerful and uncontrollable, hence no lock-on. Hope you enjoyed the panel. More to come at TGS!

Thread Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate demo releases tomorrow (16/08)
Somewhat off topic but this is my personal take on the systemic differences between MHW and classic MonHun games. MHW is like a modern sports car with a dual clutch transmission and paddle shifters. Classic MonHun is akin to a sports car equipped with a stick shift tranny. Both are equally satisfying and fast in their own ways, but require different set of skills to operate. DCT vehicles are objectively faster, efficient, and consistent. Manual cars have more engine RPM control, can be more fun to drive, but is a bit of a pain during stop ‘n go traffic jams. I enjoy both types but still drive a manual car :)

Quoting myself here to further clarify. So having checked this matter further, it’s no longer an issue. The launch binary (a.k.a. Default branch) already has an offline mode. It turns out it was the Steam side causing it. This is no longer the case. Simply opt out of beta if you haven’t already and you’ll get the launch binary. With that said, see you on the hunting grounds soon!

I’ll have to look into it, but it could be an oversight. While I know Denuvo only checks once a week or so, perhaps it’s on the Steam DRM side that has an additional check. Not sure on the Poogie petting behavior though. Ive been playing on an Xbox controller and haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary. At least it felt the same as the console versions.

The random crash that some reviewers encountered during the preview window was totally unexpected and spooked the team. Fortunately, they found the culprit and it has already been fixed. Phew! The code for launch is practically finished; that being said, the team wanted to err on the safe side and keep QA team on it into the final hours in case something serious crops up that requires an update. The last thing we want is to force pre-loaders to redownload the game. Fortunately the download size, in my opinion, is reasonable at 16.7 GB.

It will unlock globally on August 9th at 9:00am Pacific Time. Pre-load...no change in status as of now. Again, the team has been afforded time and will be working very close to launch to ensure we deliver the best product possible. (above quote had a fat-finger typo/auto-correct, ha!) We want to avoid a situation where you have to redownload a 15GB asset container file just because some files had to be updated at the last minute.

I lurk here whenever I can and occasionally jump in to provide clarification. For the very first time, I will be at EVO this year. So excited! (Not competing though, ha!)

Thread Monster Hunter: World - PC port previews and impressions thread
To eliminate interstitial loading during active gameplay, MHW loads the entire level into memory. In addition to managing assets loaded into memory, it keeps track of monster interactions, health status, environment/object changes, manages LOD & object culling, calculates collision detection and physics simulation, and tons of other background telemetry stuff that you don't see yet requires CPU cycle. This is in addition to supporting any GPU rendering tasks. While the MT Framework engine has been around for ages, it does a good job in distributing CPU cycles and load-balancing tasks across all available cores and threads. The engine itself is optimized for x86 CPU instruction set, is highly scalable, and loosely speaking, is platform agnostic regardless of PC or console platform so as long as it conforms to the x86 instruction set. For example, screenshots from the post below shows CPU load per core/thread.

Thread Monster Hunter World coming to Steam with August 9th release date
I don't know how the whole doom 'n gloom started, but I can assure you there is absolutely nothing to worry about with regards to optimization and performance. From a purely performance perspective, our min spec / rec. spec is generally set on the conservative side to ensure there's enough headroom. As you pointed out, the game is based on our proprietary MT Framework engine. If you're familiar with any of our other games using this tech, you'll know what to expect in terms of performance profile, tweak options, and high scalability that can be adjusted to fit your needs.

As a Capcom guy, I’ll be dabbling on all three platforms. ;-) I’ve only started playing the series from 4U, but it’s been quite a revelation in terms of overall depth of the gameplay. I play with my 12 y/o son on and off over weekends, and it’s been quite fun. Finger cramp is real, so I ended up getting one of these . Such a life saver.

I can not recommend it enough. Go for it. Make sure to get Version 2 — the one I linked above. Difference between Version 1 is the finger rest position for your index (or middle) finger. Version 2 has a much better and natural placement. Feels so gud in hands.
