Thread Is Back to the Future Part II the only movie where the future isn't a dystopia?
Don’t forget Pizza Hut was the sole survivor in Europe. Aside from that, isn’t it implied in the movie that only San Angeles is “utopian”, and the general state of elsewhere is left ambiguous? My memory of the movie is hazy but IIRC that’s a plot point with the villain wanting to expand his way of thinking/ruling to elsewhere.

Thread So is Xbox Series X not supporting guest accounts for local multiplayer in BC games a thing?
you can remove your own account and leave the Xbox without a user account via the settings. Did so myself when I was trading in my One X after getting the SX. As for guest accounts for multiplayer. Enable Guest users: Settings -> General -> Online safety & family -> Family settings -> Signed-out Restrictions-> Create a Guest key. Then set “Access to content” to unrestricted. That will let guests play games alongside logged in users.

Thread Just a reminder to turn on 2FA on your accounts
If you get a 2FA code that wasn’t issued by yourselves, update your passwords. Failed logins with no 2FA codes issued = the perpetrator don’t know your password and are just credential stuffing emails on various services to try and get lucky. Failed logins with 2FA codes issued = they know your username and password combination and you are likely to be targeted for additional attacks specific to circumventing 2FA layers of protection. Maybe not today, or this week, but your account goes into a list, that info may be resold to other perpetrators that will eventually target you again through more elaborate vectors you may not successfully stop.

Had a colonoscopy a couple years ago. The prep the day before was not great, awful liquid to drink throughout and being essentially tethered to the bathroom but the actual procedure was a nonissue for me. Opted to be awake through the whole thing with a mild sedative to avoid a lengthy recovery from anaesthetics. 20 minutes procedure and then another 30 minutes recovery afterward then I went home. I’d say if you’re awake maybe don’t watch the camera feed if you’re squeamish.

Thread Nintendo eShop - August 2020
Rough at times. 30fps (I think) with stutters, but as it’s a turn based game it’s not game breaking. Game also has the ugliest rendered character hair on Switch due to it’s low resolution. Worth mentioning the UI text is microscopic in places as well. Studio promised performance patches at one point but they never came. That said, I spent over 40 hours with the game on Switch as I really enjoyed the gameplay loop of its case investigations mixed with the stealth-focused turn based missions. You could do much worse for 2 dollars.

Had a period where my BT performance was terrible when using Xbox controllers, troubleshooted for what felt like weeks, different drivers and adapters and it turned out it was simply because there were too many devices nearby operating on the 2.4GHz band, including device interference from neighbours. No, the strategy is simply to put out games in front of as many people as possible so they can buy them where they chose to. Origin, Steam, Epic and elsewhere. You'll still need to link an EA account up where ever you go though, that will not start to go away. It may become optional in places but ultimately it's the back bone for EA's cross platform play environment which is only getting more and more widespread and requested from communities of players.

It's so you can buy DLC for retail games on cart / disc which are not entitlement based like digital games are. Xbox and PSN works the same way. While he did eloquently describe the issue to an extent, this isn't really what these measures aim to mitigate. None of the big players are really that concerned with arbitrage (to a point of course). It's the organised abuse that causes the real problems.

Thread EGS adds self-service refunds + keyless integration
In simplified terms as a merchant you generally want to see less than 1% of your sales as fraud. That's typically the baseline because you start seeing very hefty fines from card schemes like Visa and MasterCard and other providers if you go above that. Prolonged failure to keep fraud at a minimum in worst cases loses you the option of transacting with them at all.Steam revokes keys by the thousands every single day, and also provides reporting to merchants selling on steam to enable merchants revoking keys on their own systems. Steam also supports direct integration. The reason Steam keys are still around I imagine is a combination of a few things, Steam's market size, the sheer amount of keys still in circulation, and that they simply put can currently afford to eat the costs associated with keeping keys as a commodity to be abused around. Kittens McMittens gave a brief explanation of the problem, quoting below.Basically, where you as a customer see a good deal, fraudsters see the same good deal but at scale. Which they will abuse and abuse until it's dead in order to make profit, usually without spending any of their own $ capital. Sourcing their capital instead from stolen payment instruments, or accounts. Compromised accounts and payments are sometimes used, but not necessarily. There's an entire fraud industry around generating accounts and building bogus but good-looking customer histories that can fool first line fraud prevention systems on various platforms. Accounts that then gets traded or sold for the sole purpose of using them to commit fraud later down the line whenever opportunity arises (sales, big launches etc.). It's never a dull moment in the fraud and security industry let me tell you. :) Keyless integrations removes the commodity that fraud can very very easily abuse to make a profit, or at least, it forces fraud to invest resources in creation of accounts to actually abuse the system. Accounts which are much easier to collect metrics around to trace and prevent. These mitigation factors impact legitimate customers also of course. You can no longer give a key to a friend, your friend has to have an account first etc. etc. One bad actor (or in this scenario, organised crime) ruins the fun for everyone else.

Apparently IFCO banned it (Ireland's ratings board), even though PEGI rated it here IFCO has final say. So that explains why it's not for sale on the Ireland eShop anymore. UK & Ireland has the same eShop backend so that may explain why it's not available in UK store either for me as I am coming from Ireland.

Thread Vice: The Pursuit of Cheap Video Games Has Been Getting Switch Owners Banned
You'll never get buy-in from reseller marketplaces that do not care about fraud taking place on their platform to do something like this that you as a developer can trust. Nor should you as a developer aim to engage with those resellers in the first place, engagement only serves to validate that the marketplace in question has any place in the ecosystem of your game. G2A as a famous example invest a lot of resources to try to seem legitimate in this fashion. Rather aim to have game distribution that don't rely on keycodes as redeemable objects in the first place but rather a direct entitlement. If you're a smaller indie, Steam offers a framework that is very versatile and they then take the brunt of the hit when dealing with steam keys that got loose on the grey market without adversely impacting customers caught in the mix by happenstance.

I love Timecop because it's absurd. The way I've always interpreted this problem is that they can't travel into the future beyond their point of origin in the timeline. They can return to that origin point in time but not go beyond it. Reality may change based on the past events but the timeline remains static from that POV. Slap on the notion that JCVD technically is changing the past, he’s just correcting the past after a time-travel crime happened that disrupted the real proper future that happened at some point in a previous time loop not depicted in the movie. Which means it's fine to change that (or un-do rather...). Fantastic movie.

Doesn’t necessarily protect you either. Depends on the auth flow used, most scenarios involving a browser there are two tokens, a refresh token and an access token. The refresh token is used once to generate the short-lived access tokens; the latter is sent in every request. The refresh token regardless of “remembering” last until you manually log out or a set expiration (a time set by the site/service). Gmail to take one example their tokens last for weeks. With that token in hand, a bad guy can generate access tokens whenever they choose as long as it’s valid

I would add to the above also that you need to complete 10/20 missions of each type. You can't for example re-complete the mission over and over (as it repopulates after a while) and expect it to count towards the total more than the first time you receive the Legend of Legends grade for it.

It's based on what store region the inside app "more apps" website is set to. For iOS, simply change it to a country where the game isn't out officially other than the US and ads go away altogether. There's a hardly visible "Settings" link at the top to do so. Android presumably works similarly.

If you can stomach low-res visuals (with hilariously horrendous hair), textures and sub 30 fps frame rates at times give it a go. It's definitely a port that isn't optimal on a Switch. They are supposedly working on refinements and fixes in a patch but it's been months in the making so who knows when that arrives. Game play wise I would say it is 100% a stealth game during actual missions. I don't even consider open combat a factor as it's incredibly penalizing to the point of save scumming or game over. The story campaigns are a little too long in my opinion and can wear a little thin on the mission variety because of it but overall I still have really enjoyed my time with the game thanks to the setting and auxiliary investigations between missions. I say this with 35-something hours clocked in the Switch port.

There are other resource costs than just "development" time for cross-play. Storage and proper maintenance of user information for one, which isn't a cheap nor small matter. With cross-play involved this isn't something small devs can offload to first party platform holders they have to buy or build their own solutions.

Thread Battle Passes are turning games into work instead of fun
Had a shower thought the other day after having jumped from AC: Odyssey to Link's Awakening. Two games diametrically opposed on the spectrum of monetization. Next-Gen platforms maybe should have an opt-in system-wide toggle to mute/hide all GaaS/addon monetization in games. Make it hard to find or whatever but having a feature that would just let you play a game as is without constant reminders that there is more to would be pretty neat. Call it the toggle While playing AC:O I was left wishing for such a toggle that would simply mute or hide the pop-ups, ads, reminders, icons, filters for various value-add GaaS things and leave me alone to simply play the game. The aforementioned slowed on-boarding down to a crawl and made me feel like I was walking through a shopping mall instead of staring up a game. (The game spends quite a bit of time letting you know of the numerous value-add expansions or passes it has on offer on a cold boot and also in-game with all the map filters for social/monetary vendors. This was exacerbated when I moved to Link's Awakening that has zero of anything other than the game presented as is. That said, I don't necessarily mind GaaS monetization (everything in moderation), but how this messaging is sometimes delivered to players could do with a sanity check.

This is not piracy, it's arbitrage. Not illegal but can be exploitative depending on how lopsided it becomes. While it's in most cases a violation of an agreed upon TOS or EULA, most digital merchants, Nintendo likely included, are unlikely to enforce it as a direct user violation and will instead monitor for excessive arbitrage and restrict the access to such where it becomes a liability. In basic terms they will prevent incoming payments from X territory to settle in Y territory where the price ratio is too extreme, simply happens too frequently, or violates terms of sale agreements between the merchant (Nintendo) and product-owner (Publishers in this case). Not just because legitimate users are getting "one up on them", but because it also attracts organised fraud (with a capital F), which is entirely destructive to both Nintendo's and the Publishers' business. Fraud is in majority of cases the primary reason why a market receives a sudden raise in local pricing, not because the average Joe buys a game for cheap.

I have around 30 hours put into the port personally, I really like the game overall but it is the opposite of combat focused. If you get into combat you screwed up and 80% of the time you're dead or get severe lingering consequences in the campaign. The investigation aspect between missions is entertaining to me, but be aware you spend about 50% of the game connecting clues in order to initiate further missions. The missions themselves can drag on a bit after a while once you've seen the permutations on offer, they're pretty similar in structure. In short I would rate the Switch port as OK but you can definitely tell they cut corners to get it on the Switch. Controls have been adapted pretty well and you get used to them quickly. Frame rate targets 30fps and takes a hit in the form of stutters here and there during game play and some menus are sluggish to L/R tab between on occasion. Graphics are on the UGLY side when zoomed in but you don't need to zoom in very often, some intro/outro cutscenes are monster-factory level of hideous.A 5-year music license expiring I'm guessing.

Unless he's providing you with an email address + password and other security details along with the console he's scamming you. Keep in mind account transfers/sales like these are against the TOS of Microsoft, and don't assume you'll be the permanent owner of those games or that account. To add on this, the set two weeks period, ending start of October is very likely so that they simply can calculate how much previous earnings they need to write off as new expenses for their quarterly financials. Them having an open door policy for refunds on a product (KS contribution) they have already paid tax on by now is not realistic (among other obligatory steps you abide to as a corporate entity, I'm grossly simplifying things here). Not to mention any refunds tied to in-game rewards that could impact actual development of the game this close to launch, potentially extensively depending on reward type (crunch!). And it maybe needs to be said, just because another corporate entity offered refunds quicker for their product means nothing. No two corporations are structured the same.

Prices will drop on higher end cards as time pass. You'll have to archive and re-download games that are stored on your internal memory, there's still no way to move content from one or the other. Games and Updates will download to SD card when its present, internal when its not. It is possible to have a game split across the two if memory happens to run out on the SD card mid-download. Save games stay on the internal memory.

Hmm, that wording sounds like its still a standard pre-authorization, where Amazon asks permission to charge the full amount ahead of time with the bank. This is normal* procedure unless your boyfriend actually has been charged in full (and its not just a pending charge which will be released ~24-72h from now). * The most common pre-authorization amount is a $0 amount, but putting the full order amount into a pending hold is also possible, basically they want to make sure the full amount of money is present - sometimes the case when dealing with new payment methods to reduce fraud risk (aka. he changed bank accounts).

If you have a Visa or MasterCard, the likelihood of your card issuer updating expired/replaced cards on file with Amazon for you automatically is actually very high these days. Many merchants, Amazon, Sony, Microsoft, Steam and countless others, these days participate in what's called Account Updater / Automatic Billing Updater that facilitate updates of outdated payment on file with no action needed from the card holder, to improve conversion rates for subscription services and other longer term billing situations like a pre-order.

OP, change your Steam account email, and see if the notices stop. If they continue, they are faked phishing attempts, the "From:" field in an email is easily spoofed. You could also be dealing with a delayed email notice situation if you're being brute forced, there could be 100s of attempts in a short time frame that may have caused queuing of emails. Also, make sure to deauthorize any other active logged in sessions. If done right is the key word here. In order for passphrases to have enough entropy to be considered secure compared to a pure generated string you'll end up with a collection of random words no person can easily remember. This comic strip has actually made them less secure since it came out 7 years ago and as such should be avoided in majority of cases. Use complex passwords over passphrases.

Have done this with StarLink personally, had to manually archive and re-download game updates to recoup used SD card space from the digital game but DLC sticks. For StarLink, bought DLC downloaded alongside the game updates, I assume other games work in similar fashion. Mind, there's no separate "re-download DLC" options in the eShop as Nintendo doesn't offer that granular function and treat any DLC as part of the digital base game (a hurdle if you say redeem free DLC that takes up space that you don't necessarily want, no option to not download that).

There was this report though that Nintendo is considering expanding it in the future: Don't know why it's 12 specifically for the Switch (maybe there's a best practice UX rule?), but I suspect the current UI limit is there to both limit the clutter and also to keep it overall within the memory budget so the UI runs smoothly when accounting for all the other functions that may occur, friend toasts, games updating etc.

Generalising from memory here so the technical aspects is most likely wrong, but I want to say I that the 30 second limit is inherent to the built-in video encoder of the Tegra X1 powering the Switch and may not go any longer without impacting performance.

Chapter 3, fairly early on in it, in the shall we say 'underground' region. I just feel like the auto-attack wind-up phase of every encounter is a bore. Especially since it's a bit of a hassle making sure you're engaging multiple foes at once as to not reset your combo and have to wind-up yet again right after.

In my experience you can only get at the App Data parts of apps via jailbreaks if you're running iOS 9 or above as its encrypted at that point and inaccessible to 3rd party tools. iTunes backups should contain the app data though so maybe that's an option if you have the .ipa file locally (e.g. backup, swap iPod, restore backup to new device). iTunes 12.6.4 for Enterprise still has the App Store and app management parts, and supports up to iOS 11.4 currently.

About 5 hours into Pillars of Eternity (just got my stronghold). It seems like a good port with a few rough edges. - The performance is solid, no missing effects or voice acting compromises from what I can tell. Haven't encountered any dropped frames. - Seems to run at native resolution in both docked and hand-held. - The majority of text is readable in both docked and hand-held, minor flavour text/prompts is smaller but still fine. YMMV: - Controls are OK but can take a little while to get a hang of. (Hint: Trigger radial menues are your friend). I'm used to playing strategy/tactics games on gamepads so they haven't t a problem for me.: - Some loading times between areas are on the long side. - Text sometimes gets garbled and turns into literal gibberish, temporarily for a second or two before correcting itself. Though I've had the combat log remain gibberish until a load screen transition. - Had two full crashes to the dashboard when exiting in the first introduction dungeon during the area transition, which left me vary. No crashes since. - No Big Head Mode

The sections are still there, the apps and games you see in the sections might have changed since the tutorials you mention were made but no functionality has been taken out in that regard. If you have an apk you want to side load that isn't already featured it supports drag-n-drop to install those. That's weird about the audio, been using a DAS mod for months so I can't really speak to if they've lowered the audio output of the speakers or if you're experiencing a bug, does it persist over full shutdown/restarts of the headset? Also, I cannot recommend the VR Covers FWIW, I got mine a few weeks ago (the foam replacements) and I ended up absolutely hating them, total sweat magnets and they reduce your FOV. Plus they cost damn near 70 euros with import tariffs included. A big waste of money in my opinion. I would look for some more disposable covers for workouts like these in the link below, a friend of mine swears by them and they're very handy if you want to share the Quest with others in terms of keeping germs away. Super cheap and there are many options similar to the ones linked, these you fasten behind your ears and then put on the headset, no FOV loss at all in my experience.

Yes, deleted before requesting a refund. Again why would a refund hinge on the availability of game data on your local device? A device you can keep offline if you so choose for days on end which would prohibit any remote "checking" of any sort. That policy page also doesn't correctly correlate from a Quest perspective, as you do not request refunds from the device itself, you do it from the mobile app.

It's automatic by default, and can be turned off in the mobile app's headset advanced settings. That said, the option requires Developer mode to be activated to be available in the first place, but if you're already sideloading things that's already taken care of.

Is it intentional that your mic voice doesn't get recorded in videos you record? Or is there a privacy setting I've enabled somewhere that can be turned off?By any chance did you figure out why videos showed up as 0 minutes? Having this issue now myself. Edit: lol I found a workaround. Copy the entire VideoShots folder from the Quest to your PC. For some reason when you copy the whole folder, the files inside work properly!

The mentioned Drop Dead is solid, has a single player campaign of modest length and also horde modes which can be played both single or co-op with a friend or random online. Dead and Buried 2 will eventually get the "co-op against waves of enemies" mode again that the first game had (they focused on PVP modes for 2 at launch) at which point it'll be a contender.

I'd probably skip Creed (there's a demo pre-installed though you can check before committing). Drop Dead is another to look at IMO, fun first person zombie shooter. I recommend checking out Dead and Buried 2 as well, another first person shooter. And there's also Thumper of course. If you have a PC you could stream SteamVR to the Quest, and play Rez Infinite that way. Via unofficial methods mind you,
