Thread Mr Negative (Jimquistion)
The problem I see with it is that Jim is talking A LOT about integrity and yet has no problem with producing sensational or negative content because “we adore it” aka it generates more money for him. Where’s the integrity in that? He is no better to me than the people or companies he criticises because they make money regardless of morals too. Obviously he does not exploit people and generally is talking about important issues. I just predict that this sensationalism will eventually hurt someone because he will rile up the bad part of his fanbase and they’ll harass the crap out of someone. He’s the equivalent of a YouTube tabloid. While a lot of forces in the industry are not our friends, they’re also not our enemies.

Thread Thinking that you did badly on a job interview (especially in a foreign language) is one of the worst feelings ever!
Cheer up! While I certainly can’t compare any of my experiences to yours, since you’re in Japan and conducting the interviews in a foreign language, you’re going to be successful if you keep trying. Actually the interviews which were the worst in my opinion landed me a job in the end. As long as you try your best in a stressful situation like this, it will be appreciated even if you think you could’ve done much better. Also do’t try to think much about past interviews and don’t be hopeful at all. It can take a bunch of interviews until you are successful... and unless Japan is completely different than Europe in that regard, a job interview is considered to be a very good sign to begin with. They are very interested in you and choose between you and only a handful of other people. It’s a difficult and uncertain time of course but you’ll make it if you go through as many interviews as possible. Keep yourself busy :)

Thread How's Kingdom Come: Deliverance? (PS4)
In the same scene your father also mentions how the German pays well and they’re trading with him. Other than that he only acknowledges to win arguments with conversation rather than violence. The whole dialogue makes no mention of this being an attack on a foreigner in the first place. Regarding racism in this game: jewish, Turkish or even southern European people aren’t present for no good reason. Romani people are absent too despite reaching Bohemia a century earlier. Since armour in this game doesn’t have that pesky brown skin colour it is, lo and behold from Italy and Milan! In 15th century rural Bohemia! Sold from several vendors. How is that possible I wonder? Hey but having PoC in there would be like introducing magic or dragons to this game. Fyi: for the game to be racist you don’t need to have someone standing in the middle of a town spouting racial slurs. PoC are excluded on purpose, despite many historical inaccuracies and gameplay elements like perks straight up from Fallout or something you’d find in a fantasy game. Actually, the only PoC in the while game is Runt, you know the first main bad guy. That’s it. The whole historical accuracy thing is just window dressing and only consistent with the games architecture at best. Moving on to their portrayal of women: The only female characters with extended dialogue Henry is meeting will actually end up in bed with him. Sure, the son of a blacksmith was irresistible back in those days, amirite? Let’s also glance over the fact that when Henry’s he only ever mentions his father. In fact the scene where he , he completely ignores the mother as if she was invisible. It’s almost comically bad. Which becomes even weirder when towards he end he has . His mother being never mentioned, apart from the intro sequence. Actually it’s not that weird since women in this game are written to be either close to invisible or sex objects. I’m also most likely the person who has spent the most time with this game in this thread, so the whole “Where’s racism? There’s no racism in this game” is quite hilarious to me.

Thread How's Kingdom Come: Deliverance? (PS4)
According to the book Historical Dictionary of the Gypsies (Romanies) they’ve arrived earlier than that since their first mention was in “1399 Bohemia: The first Gypsy is mentioned in a chronicle.”Good question, because the Cumans depicted in the game are the ones from Hungary who did not wear armour like in the game (especially by the 15th century). It doesn’t even make sense that they’d speak Hungarian in the first place. They were pretty much a part of Hungary by that time but spoke their own language which was a turkic one - they are however not Turkish since they’ve lived and fought with European rulers for 100 years by the time Kingdom Come takes place. Also according to Wikipedia: “By the 15th century, the Cumans were permanently settled in Hungary, in villages whose structure corresponded to that of the local population, and they were Christianized.”

Thread Battlefront 1 (2015) looks and plays better than Battlefront 2 - but why?
Don’t worry Nintendo is doomed since 1983. You’re just like the new cool kid in town. Actually you can see how much more optimised BF2 is on consoles, where the original ran at 900p on PS4 and is now at a dynamic 1080p (never dipping even close to 900p afaik). That’s while boasting more complex geometry, having a ton more content and many varied maps with cool new materials used on the Naboo palace map for example. That just wasn’t there and/or possible in BF1. What I remember from BF1 is that it was a solid base for future iterations but it was really lacking in content and map variety. I’m not sure why one would focus solely on the graphics in BF1 - it really can‘t hold a candle to BF2 in any other aspect.

It’s not just RDR2 though. There’s nothing “magical” about it but game makers in general use more efficient and optimised techniques. It’s not like GTA V didn’t have any budget for comparison. RDR2 also runs at a fairly high resolution and stable framerate compared to similar open world titles, while looking THAT visually amazing.

Thread Kojima Productions Teasing something for next Week ( Silent Hill implied )
I actually think it’s possible Konami could’ve sold the IP. Realistically they’ve pulled out of AAA game development. To me it seems they think it’s too much risk and low return of investment compared to their other businesses. They’d also get a sweet pay check for an IP they’d only decoratively use for their pachinko machines. Sitting on a game IP for too long will also make it worthless in the long run. I guess we’re going to find out soon.

Thread I feel like there’s way too many people asking for expensive, time-consuming remakes over wanting the devs to craft a new experience
Why though? We also barely got any remasters, compared to the huge number of new games releasing every day. This topic is about remakes. It was explained a thousand times why remasters exist and why they are a good thing: There are so many benefits like financing niche franchises, reinvigorating interest in long absent games, very fast and cheap development etc. etc. And yes we needed a remake of MediEvil. You don’t care but many hardcore fans are ecstatic to see a decent game coming from a game series which was essentially dead for the last 20 years (especially since everyone was trying to forget the horrible PSP game). You should see and acknowledge how excited people were when the Crash, Spyro, MediEvil, Resident Evil and Final Fantasy remakes were revealed and just be happy for them. Do you know what the best part about remakes and remasters is if they somehow still bother you? Just ignore them and play new stuff. How can their sole existence even bother you?

Isn’t FFVIIR developed by their Division 1 and 16 by Division 2? You will get your new game regardless of the remake. There are a ton of people like me who never played FFVII to begin with, so to me it’ll be a new game. I’m sure you also haven’t played ALL of the old games and one of those remakes can come in handy. Looking at the original FFVII and the remake, I’m also pretty certain it’ll be a new experience regardless of whether you’ve played the original or not...

Thread Let's talk about MMO raiding and it's guilds
I’ve posted a couple of times about it here, when I was in a top tier PS4 EU ESO guild. We were the 2nd best to best, depending on whether the other rival guild decided to split up or reunite again. All in all I lost 3 years of my life to Elder Scrolls. I was a junkie. But I’m clean now. On a more serious note, raids consisted of only 12 people so it probably wasn’t too complicated in terms of organisation, when compared to other MMOs. I’ve went through 5-6 raiding guilds and many line up changes. There was certainly no shortage of drama, sexism, racism and some personal stories which spread within the raiding community. I could share many stories but I think most are rather silly or sad - like the one which involves a well known male and female player who played since the games release. They were pretty much inseparable and part of the best raid team. During my final year (3-4 years later) it turns out one of them was actually in love with the other but said person didn’t feel the same way. That event also immediately destroyed their friendship. So when one person quit the game the other one also quit and never came back. It was quite shocking and something you don’t necessarily even want to hear, as it’s none of my business... but ESO gossip was a thing. Actually it was quite a toxic environment within a friendly MMO community, though I managed to stay with some good folks throughout my “career” and that’s important. You get to know these people really well and they become close friends in some cases and I’m still in contact with these people from all over Europe as a result. It’s still not easy to strike a balance between in game skill and friendship. We could’ve taken some of these complete anti socials who had insane dps but that would’ve destroyed the whole friendly atmosphere in our guild. I actually left due to a mix between being absolutely sick of playing the game every day and our guild leaders collaborating with 2 German neo nazi players - which wasn’t even a secret within the community. Needless to say the guild isn’t existing anymore and out of the 12-16 core members in our group I only even see 2-3 of them playing the game. Another post about my favourite raid: I also used to watch Happy Gamer on YouTube or something along those lines, who would talk about his FF XI experiences. He is a much better story teller than me, so I always enjoy a good personal MMO story.

Thread Kotaku (Jason Schreier): Sources: EA Canceled A Star Wars: Battlefront Spinoff Last Year
Working with Disney is quite a challenge from what we could see in the Fallen Order “making of” documentary. So seeing these cancelled projects isn’t much of a surprise. All I ever wanted from that deal was a Kotor/Bethesda like RPG where you can forge your own path and character.Hmm, MAYBE they’re not as mediocre as you think, considering these games have a consistently big player base and sales. Whatever fits your narrative I guess.

No. Nooo. No! >:( Janky is just a label people put onto everything they don‘t like. It has lost all meaning and never had one in the first place. Soon folks will start calling a game soundtrack janky. Just NO.It’s a trade off between having fancy animations and the right amount of control in the case of FO, imo. Thread Respawn Considered Delaying Jedi: Fallen Order to Smooth out Its Rampant Bugs
Yeah, well any studio has to ship a product at some point. Fallen Order was far away from being a “buggy mess” or “unplayable” like some posts suggest here. Got it on PS4 day one and platinumed it. The only regular “issue” people would run into would be the 4-5 second freeze when traversing between certain map areas. You might as well view it as a short loading screen.

Thread Respawn Considered Delaying Jedi: Fallen Order to Smooth out Its Rampant Bugs
I’m not active on Twitter but all I ever saw was people online mostly complaining about ”janky” combat which doesn’t really have anything to do with bugs. The other thing that would come to my mind would be PC related hardware issues. I kinda doubt it’s easy to break the game state just like that. Like for it to be unplayable you’d have to encounter severe problems regularly. This isn’t Kingdom Come. I honestly can’t think of major issues in my like 40-50 hours of play time personally. Thread Let's talk about a dreamy Mass Effect trilogy remaster. Do you think ME1's combat/mako needs to be overhauled?
I’d personally not change anything. It was serviceable for its time and I hadn’t too many issues. Sure, the inventory is clunky and could be more convenient but the combat is fine. I like how much weight the abilities have and how much more satisfying the ragdoll physics were. Mass Effect was a product of its time and if you tinker too much with it, you might as well play Andromeda. I think small QoL changes would be fine. Not everything has to be streamlined to death. If I want to play something with the combat of Gears of War then I’ll buy a copy of just that.

My favorite PS1 game. I remember the many rumours and mysteries about the game on the early internet. Even the official guides were based on different game builds and information. That and the amount of misinformation spread never really gave you a clear answer on how to approach certain digivolutions and what is actually possible in the game. It was a magical time.

Thread When Did Level Scaling Become a Tolerated Mechanic by Many in the Gaming Community?
Level scaling has its purpose depending on the game type. For open world games it can be quite brilliant because otherwise the player will may run into many progression dead ends. You can ensure a relatively consistent experience, which is important because gating parts of the map behind higher levels makes the premise of an open world sort of pointless. The same goes for gear and weapon scaling. Finding an overleveled weapon is like toggling the difficulty scaler in a way. I don’t see why level scaling is inherently bad. It isn’t when it’s being properly used in tandem with other gameplay features. It’s funny that people bring up Skyrim and Oblivion when Morrowind also scales the amount and type/lvl enemies you encounter while traveling and in dungeons. High level players will encounter absurd amounts of high lvl enemies at all times and to me it always felt like fighting against glorified cliff racers left and right.

Thread Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Team Will Work Extra Long Hours After Latest Delay
It absolutely is. Regardless of pay. How do you expect someone to have a normal private life when constantly working overtime - not even mentioning having a family at home. That’s messing with people’s mental health after a while. From experience you also do a lot of stuff “as a favour”, whether you want it or not. If your colleagues are doing it, you’ll be pressured into doing it. Of course it depends on where you’re working at but almost no one will go to court if a company is breaking labour laws a bit here and there. After all you’d ideally want to work at a place for a longer period of time and not make your own work life miserable by suing your employer. Even here in Germany companies can get away with a lot of crap. I even had to sue one of my former workplaces for not paying me on purpose after a dispute for 3 months. The consequences for companies for not paying you are laughable. For me they’re devastating. So when your employer gets a bit liberal with the definition of crunch, you’re screwed.

Let me add to that: - Stims are Estus Flask (Limited, upgradable healing item) - Backstabbing and parrying work like in Souls - When you stab while jumping onto a boss, you can take away a chunk of its health - Enemy placement (hiding enemies who push you off a cliff) - Boss names pop up in the same fashion, along with the health bar on the top Though I think Souls games are still better balanced than the highest difficulty of Fallen Order. Now I’m not a marketing person for MS so I couldn’t care less but watching reaction videos where people involved with games became confused with what was shown, you have to start wondering why. To be fair, the Wii had an enormous casual crowd playing - people very detached from gaming normally. Xbox will always have that core audience who will know. Either way Series X doesn’t imply a continuation of anything compared to One X. It’s confusing to a layman and doesn’t help. It’s still an important target audience and they should’ve gone for something more iterative. Maybe something completely new even. It’s an interesting choice for sure.

Have you been to other “hobbyist forums”? I’m genuinely asking because those places are by far the most toxic and miserable. You can’t compare these to era. On the contrary, those “positive” gaming reddits consist of 99% memes/humor which is pointless - maybe it’s because I dislike memes... Anyway, people generally like to complain. Thread I'm Starting to Question the Point of Consoles
Nah, there are so many instances of me running into major problems with some of the PC games I own, which make me prefer the simplicity of consoles. For one I seem to have unresolved issues with my wifi driver(s), at which point I complete gave up on the platform. Then there’s no controller support at all for several games I want to play. Sometimes not even proper widescreen options. So using Steam BPM with a controller only really works for the most recent games and even then, Steam doesn’t have all those games - it’s not the unified platform it used to be. I could eventually solve most (not all) issues after hours of tinkering but live is too short for that, imo. Consoles benefits for me are: 100% controller support, simplicity aka OS + app patch, hassle free stuff like party chat and periphery device acceptance That said I like and know how to use a PC for my daily job but there’s also that connection I have between work and PC’s. So after sitting at a PC the whole day, I don’t want to do the same thing at home again. I‘ve created mods before, I run a dual-boot of Linux and Windows, participated in certain audio communities regarding the decryption of game audio files, done many things at work with our network which have been way above my abilities. Still, at the end of the day convenience wins.

VGChartz? The folks who used to release wrong numbers, looked at what NPD tracked and then edited their numbers? I wasn't exactly thinking highly of GWR in the first place but... oh well. It's not surprising VGC is getting cited though, as they are the only... "well established" ... free tracking source for video games out there - despite being unreliable and uncommunicative about their sources. Unfortunately only very few news outlets do any research whatsoever and still include them as a source. The record itself is fine and undisputed but using VGC numbers isn't quite "officially amazing".

That’s a shame, OP. I assumed they’d at least throw in some more translations after the fact that the game sold really well. Then it also reminds me of the Ace Attorney trilogy where German and French translations have been added with a patch but not Spanish. Whatever you’re expecting to see from Obsidian is probably not overly restrained by team size or budget. They made two recently very good Bethesda style RPGs with NV and TOW and that’s what they can roughly deliver. Remember that Skyrim was made by around 100 people and Fallout 3 by 70. It’s a complicated team effort which budget and time doesn’t always fix. The folks at Bethesda can make a gigantic game with very little resources thanks to their tools and workflow - that’s not something you can easily copy. They can do what they want now with MS and not everyone wants to or can make “the next Skyrim”.

Certainly Oblivion for me. There's a lot of nostalgia for this game which always has a special place in my heart - I also replay it every year or two. Aside from that I've platinumed a bunch of games like Fallout 3, 76 and Skyrim. Their RPGs are right up my alley for some reason. Had I discovered Morrowind first it would've probably been a different story; it's a bit too dated for me to get in deep but the 20-30 hours I spent were a lot of fun and I can always appreciate how much more freedom you had in that game, compared to their newer releases.

It's hard to tell where they'll go. SSM doesn't have to directly kill off Kratos in the next game if they want to replace him with Atreus in future games - it would limit their options for no good reasons. Instead they could switch between both (Atreus and Kratos) and just put Kratos on the back burner. I also think that mural was misleading on purpose - we don't know if that's really Kratos and what the full context of that scene is. Kratos still has a lot of potential as a character as shown by GoW 2018. I personally don't think they can kill him off, even if they want.

I strongly dislike these game sequels which launch in a worse state than before (eg. Battlefront 2, Destiny 2, Division 2). Some titles can be fixed and still be successful later on but due to every game being GaaS nowadays they’re better off not releasing a third game but using these games as a platform for the next years. This is where I'm at too. Probably my game of the year. It really scratches that single player / Bethesda / bioware itch I have. While it took 1-2 hours to fully grasp the flow of the game, my experience has been consistently good and with no technical issues as well. It's quite apparent that the teams budget limited the amount of mission types, which is why there's a lack of deeper dialogue trees like in Mass Effect for example. The story does a good enough job to mask those imperfections. If anything I'm shocked how good Greedfall is for an AA title; especially when it comes to its graphics and presentation. I disagree however that this game "humiliates BioWare" or anything along this line. So far they failed with Anthem and another Studio under the BioWare brand didn't meet expectations with ME: Andromeda. Be more reasonable than this.

Life’s are at stakes BUT that’s why you need well trained special forces for these situations. This situation was solved poorly by the police forces - they could’ve sent one of their nervous regular police officers with heavy weapons to come to the same “solution”. These guys shouldn’t be nervous. For hostage situation we have the SEK and GSG9 in Germany where the former completed 1500+ missions and used gunfire five times... that’s what you’d hope for in the US. The piss poor police training in the US aside, everyone else around the world has to understand that due to the big amount and kind of weapons in the US, their situation isn’t comparable to ours. Here in Germany it’s extremely rare to encounter someone with even a pistol, whereas you can hoard stacks of assault rifles in the US. It’s much more common there to encounter someone with a gun, dare I say it happens almost always. The officer who shot the innocent person, the idiots involved in the swatting should all face very harsh punishments as far as the law is allowing it. It’s a complex situation after all but the inherent problems are unreasonably and uncontrollable amount of guns, scummy people who belong into jail and very poor police performance.

The problem is you're looking at this stuff from a human-centric perspective. The expansion of the universe can be like a balloon or dough. Things drift apart despite not magically "creating space" out of nothing. PBS Spacetime is a great YouTube channel if you have interest in such a topic since they don't obfuscate too much and show you the math and science behind it. Same with concepts like time: Knowing how the universe works makes you quickly realize that many "existential" questions are irrelevant, since nature doesn't follow any dogmas or logic. Just many coincidences and no "reason". There's no creator's point of view. We have a very good but incomplete grasp of how the universe works. Just educate and entertain yourself for a while and suddenly not many things are actually beyond our understanding. It really helped me with my existential crises. Me not properly digging into these questions and not satisfying my curiosity was the actual problem. We're naturally terrified of the unknown. But nowadays you can know and knowing is half the battle!

Thread It feels like it's getting harder to discuss thing calmly in the gaming community
I can’t remember a time when it was easy to discuss any topic which involves personal tastes and opinions. I also don’t think there’s a better place to discuss games than here - not even remotely. Yes, I’m very annoyed about snarky one liners and wish that needlessly negative opinions about a game or company without explanation would be actually sanctioned. On the other hand this whole meta commentary is also one sided negativity in my opinion. There are plenty of positive discussions regarding gaming going on but the contrary opinions and the negative stuff obviously sticks out the most. You also have to let it go and don’t get too attached to every stupid opinion which has been voiced. Then I also reflect about the stupid stuff I’ve said on the internet throughout my life and how it has maybe affected others negatively - maybe I was mocking something which somebody actually liked. With that being said I think criticism like ”you’re not able to criticize XYZ” is really unwarranted. I mean I don’t expect to criticize popular games and to not clash with said fanbase. Or praising generally unpopular games and wondering about how no one agrees with me. Consoles and digital platforms also always bring their biased fanbase with them - I don’t think that a console with 20% market share will have many supporters anywhere, regardless of how fair discussions are supposed to be.And I think you are part of the problem because your post adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.

Loved mine until the inevitable YLoD came along... it’s kinda sad because it has the whole package. Hardware emulation, card slots, great design etc. and all other versions lack many features of the 60GB model. I actually thought the dev kit would be a good compromise (just lacking the design) but it turns out even that one is only capable of software emulation. Due to its enormous size I’d imagine it’s not as prone to thermal issues like the standard console. PS2 emulation and preservation seems to be a pain In the ass to begin with. The original consoles can fail easily, PS3 fat eventually dies and PCSX2 can only play the most popular titles with mixed quality.

Not really, you need CFW to be able to archive the HDDs content in the first place since these are encrypted. As long as the assets are untouched it’s fine. Besides, people collect these.Alright I appreciate the concern but as far as I’m aware people have sold review, debug, pre release discs in this thread without any repercussions. Those discs aren’t meant to be sold as well, just like development hardware and quite frankly eBay or Sony don’t have any issue with that as long as you’re not selling current gen development tools. PS3 is a dead platform and Sony won’t take the dev kit back nor do they care in 2019. Yes and no? You’ve touched on several separate topics OP, which are: online, story DLC, monetization and Casino. In an ideal world we would get the former 2 and call it a day. I personally think the online portion is fun but it takes ages to become wealthy especially if you want high end vehicles. It’s grindy, yes - especially solo. Maybe it just doesn’t offer instant gratification. Who am I to judge? It’s just hard to see this game objectively when you have those shark cards sitting in the store while the playerbase keeps wondering how newer cars became 10 times more expensive than before. I think the Casino DLC and the lack of focus on the story mode are amplifying the negative aspects of the online mode.

Just watched the video. Can’t say much about the actual video topic because it is what it is, the Pro is a decent 1080p console indeed. I used to play lots of ESO and Skyrim which happened to be native 4K (even though I’m 100% certain ESO is dynamic nowadays) and most other titles are in the 1440p range. As a someone who plays on a big 4K monitor, I can still appreciate and see the resolution bumps over full HD. Especially since performance only suffers in a handful of titles. Now the video itself was a pleasure to watch. Long gone are the days of the clinically sterile analysis videos of DF. I appreciate the DF crew bringing in their personality into the videos and making them genuinely fun to watch. I thought that last part was staged since the timing seemed to be spot on. Great stuff. Hearing John speaking a bit of German in the background was also a pleasure :)

You’re being disingenuous here. You need to get 32 cars in your garage first and before you can do that you need a CEO business (1 Mil $), you need a garage (1.4 Mil $) and then you practically spend the next ~ 20 Mil on other businesses and cars before you can start thinking about a decent income. That’s the reason why GTA Online has a huge glitching community which uncovers new dupe glitch after dupe glitch every week because the whole game is one big grind. They try to wear you down until you buy one of those overpriced shark cards and that’s it. My garage is full of tuned Issis because after weeks of grinding I said screw it, I’m taking advantage of the latest glitch and they can kiss my f2p ass. Edit: You also don’t get 100k per car but only 80k profit since you always pay 20k for tuning. That’s without damages, other players killing you etc. Unless you buy only the cheapest cars in the game (top cars & vehicles cost 1-10mil each) you’re going to export cars for months just for decent vehicles.

Thread 'My son spent £3,160 in one game' (BBC article looking at exploitative MTXs)
I think everyone in the mobile space does it. For example: I very recently checked out Star Wars: GoH from EA again. Mainly because I wondered whether the beloved KotoR character Darth Revan was in the game. Turns out he’s an event reward and in order to get him you need 5 certain characters. You can buy them in separated packs for roughly 80$ together. Even then they’re not remotely strong enough to unlock him. So you have to buy additional crystal pack for each character which is a) still RNG based b) gives you 10-330 shards while everything from 50-330 shards has a . So naturally you’ll only get a few shards. In fact you can watch YouTube videos where people spend . This is the other alternative aside from grinding on a daily basis for months. We’re not used to these shitty practices on consoles or with AAA games. People lose their minds about Battlefront 2’s monetization but that’s nothing compared to the whale hunting EA does on mobile. I’m not surprised by news articles like that and I think it’ll only get worse without regulation from government. Edit: Link to the before mentioned drop chances:

Yeah though the DLC output is just a former shadows of itself in terms of quality and release frequency. Like you’ve said due to licensing they probably don’t make that much profit and juggling all those expired licenses + negotiations must be a nightmare. Then they have to add the notes for all instruments AND work with the original master tapes for their multitrack format (which they dropped doing for some songs afaik). I still love them for making many master tracks available unintentionally, since their multitrack songs eventually are being distributed over the internet but the game genre itself is slowly fading into obscurity.

A hard reboot wouldn't make sense in my opinion since that's what Andromeda already was. References to the previous trilogy have been minor and with every reboot they'd fall into the trap of making something different from the original trilogy. So Mass Effect 4 is the only logical consequence: -They can't catch lightning in a bottle twice. -They already have solid established lore to work with. -They already have solid characters to work with. -It's better to retcon elements than having to work around them forever in the future.

It's unsustainable in my opinion. Aside from that I can currently get pretty much all AAA releases for 40€ after a week physical and most in the 15-30€ within a few months. To me that is a huge difference after a few games... and again I doubt Google will even be able to match digital prices in consoles or steam due to their infrastructure which has to be supported and can't be cheap to maintain.

Hard to say which game is “better” as Morrowind is a lot older but is more complex and better written than Oblivion, in my opinion. I’ve started with Oblivion and then played Morrowind which is fine since you get a feeling for the The Elder Scrolls formula regardless. You’ll have fun with both if you apply some QoL mods. If stuff like not having voiced dialogue bothers you in RPGs then Oblivion is your best bet. If you like old school RPG immersion then Morrowind will be more suitable. That’s the only other MMO I’ve actually played besides ESO. I’ve been a top ranked DD on the ESO (EU) leaderboards and tried FF XIV as a tank (Darkblade I think). One thing that I noticed how incredibly good the story is for an MMO and I had a blast with it. The one downside was that even in normal dungeons people would get a bit upset with me not always aggroing all adds in stressful situations. Also some of the dungeon mechanics are quite harsh, so I always had to look them up beforehand. After a while it became as stressful as ESO to me and too much of an investment... yes the community is nice but demanding. While in ESO all content aside from Vet & Hardmode raids or DLC dungeons doesn’t even require correct roles, nor are mechanics an issue. In FF XIV I felt like even normal content is quite hard without proper knowledge. It’s also probably because the tank role is more demanding than DPS but I was still sad when I realized this wasn’t something I could play just casually.

I'm currently doing all assets by myself and it'll take me a year before I've created enough for 5-6 levels. Then I have to think about characer models, animation, gameplay. It's rough and thus we can't expect anything cool unless dedicated groups work together. I'm also convinced this game will get a PS5 release without annoying current limits like save data storage and amount of allowed assets in a scene. That's when I'll start creating more stuff again. Right now I have to make tons of compromises, very creative use of modular assets which I need to reuse over and over again and even then it won't be enough from what I can see. Right now a simple wood shack need to be a background house, a wooden floor, a wood roof or a wooden fence / wall. I practically have to think about every fence or lamp post and how to make it multi purpose which can become quite annoying at the moment. Otherwise I won't be able to make a ~6 hour experience. The potential of this game is huge though and it's not even properly out yet, so I'm optimistic.

This is actually a thing but you’re limited by the kind of tests you can do. Network tests can and are being done from home, though the dev / publisher usually are aware of the security risk. What I’ve also done is focus tests at home. There are a few possibilities but you can’t entirely replace in house tests.

Ah ok, I get it :POh was it? I've just read about instances where EU versions got dragged down (TLoU I think) but that ruling here in Germany never made any sense to me in the first place.Yeah I kinda didn't make it clear that the violence bans are different from the law change, those are seperate events I was referring to.Yeah pretty much. I think much of the prior strictness was politically enforced after the tragic school shootings we had here. Video games have been a convenient scapegoat for politicians. Maybe I'm remembering events wrong but I thought it was weird how relaxed games have been classified ever since.

Thread Out of 1300 nearby stars, zero showed signs of technologically advanced life.
When observing planetary objects a bunch of factors need to be correct for us to detect them. Like timing and technology. The Earth is 7.5 billion years old and our technosignatures are only detectable probably since we started broadcasting radio signals a hundred years ago. So we're not even considered being a blink of an eye compared to how long Earth exists. Biosignatures are much easier to detect but you can't necessarily conclude that the origin are intelligent life forms. Our search methods and the technology we expect to find can differ a lot from reality. We can't realistically expect all life forms to evolve just like us as well. So we're hoping to find a civilization existing; then at the same time as we do (or slightly prior to us); using roughly the same technology. That's an almost impossible endeavour regardless of how advanced technology will be. Even with the best observational methods you can't force planets around us to have intelligent life .

I can see an argument being made about being more empathetic to people who are battling depression but: There’s in my opinion no doubt a good amount people are using his suicide to push their agendas because they don’t like moderation or are straight up trolls. Now how would we handle this with people like Kanye West or other people with truly horrible views in case they were about to contemplating suicide? What’s a cry for help in this situation and what isn’t? Plenty of folks use that as an excuse to create a platform for those shitty views. How far do we want them to push it? This doesn’t count for the average user but well known people on the internet with mental illness need real help and you can’t offer that on a video game forum. All I see right now is plenty of users trying to push their personal agendas with this sites moderation amongst an event where someone has lost his life. To me that’s as disgusting as some of the responses in the other thread.

From my point of you this means you don't understand the balance of power in this case. Whether that's related to domestic violence, sexual abuse or something mundane like work. In these cases you can't make a 1:1 equivalence because in there are cases in which men have more power over women. There's for instance a popular song in Germany which is literally called "Men Are Pigs" and guess what, no one felt threatened by this back in the day. Because people know it references those cases in which men are objectifying women for example. Due to very obvious cultural reasons a song about women being pigs would never have the same effect or meaning. It's just within the last few years that anti-feminist and right wing internet movements are trying to pull a "all lives matter" thing. So again if you feel threatened (even if it'd be unjustified) by this, then I can't really help you besides recommending to get more self confidence and reflecting about your role in society - and I don't mean this in a condescending way because we have too many cynical assholes on this planet.

Yeah I also don't know if that's even a big issue. My only experience of this is ESO which only has an EU server and English is pretty much the standard language 95% of the time. At most you'd get some country based guilds for people who can't speak English at all. Most of the nothern, central and eastern European server population could hold a conversation perfectly fine. I understand that language seperated servers also cater most to people who don't know other languages, so there might be a misconception that this would lead to something chaotic? Again, I can only speak from my 4000 hours of experience in ESO where the EU server communicates really well in English.

You realize how many games are banned in China just for having the wrong political theme (revolting against the state, violence, depicting certain territories as independent etc.). Those game companies still exist just fine and still have relations with China. Hell in Battlefield 4 China is an opposing faction and I haven’t seen EA retroactively trying to not offend the Chinese government. In fact many of the biggest games worldwide are banned in China. With some leaks it can be a question of preservation. There’s no good reason to not have Agent (Rockstar Games) footage or assets leaked for example. What possible interest can the company have in the IP by now? Due to the industry’s secretiveness and many NDAs a lot of that information becomes lost. Some folks have worked for years on those titles and a leak of cancelled titles is IMO always good. Let the ones who worked on this, get the exposure they deserve. Thread Is cloud based gaming services the future? Mat Piscatella (NPD Analyst) is skeptical.
I think that it’s different though. We like to compare the games industry to the film or music industry but many fail to understand that fundamental differences in the medium itself lead to different outcomes. The games industry doesn’t evolve like home VHS > Redbox > Netflix did... and people also still go to the cinema despite all of that. The convenience of streaming music and video is apparent because both are static. Apart from having your media library in one place, the convenience factor is immense compared to a physical purchase in a store. You spend a significant amount of time with a game, sometimes hundreds or thousands of hours. The need for immediacy just isn’t there. Another factor is someone with a poor internet connection won’t be able to stream so that person can still download the game (even if it takes a while). Vice versa a person with a good internet connection might as well quickly download the game and they don’t have to worry about artifacts, disconnects, data caps, save game data, game availability, mods etc. etc. streaming just comes with so many caveats. The only real positive aspect at the moment is that you don’t need to buy a platform to play on and even that’s not entirely true. It’s like the prediction that PC gaming will die - or that consoles will die due to mobile. Not everything will evolve “logically”. I don’t think that streaming has a meaningful future, not within the next 20-30 years if ever; and if it does it won’t clash with classic PC/Console gaming but it’ll evolve into its own distant thing with different experiences.

I’m really glad the destroy ending gained noticeably more support as time goes by, because out of all the endings it’s also the most tweakable one. You could easily retcon what happened to the Geth. Last time I looked Patrick Weekes was still working for BioWare, so in terms of writing we could expect some good stuff. I’d personally like to see a continuation of the old crew, maybe with new faces mixed in. Andromeda soured me on any new attempts which distance themselves from the original trilogy. It’s hard to catch lightning in a bottle twice (ideal setting, characters & story). What writers have to avoid is trying to come up with more dangerous enemy superlatives, because the Reapers already represented the end of all things. There are many interesting stories to write about in a sci-fi setting like alien/human trafficking, terrorism, hackers, corrupt governments, PMCs etc.

Thread [Kotaku] Console Players Can’t Beat The Division 2’s Raid
But that’s still poor balancing on the respective platforms, isn’t it? You shouldn’t be required to play with kb/m just to complete content. That’s why things like aim assist exist, that’s why you balance stuff like gun recoil around the limitations of any input device. kb/m is a nice thing to have on consoles and there are plenty of them which support it as an alternative control scheme but it shouldn’t be mandatory to complete content.

Thread [Kotaku] Console Players Can’t Beat The Division 2’s Raid
The players have a point when several PC players manage to do it and none on consoles. Many here miss the actual point though: This isn’t a discussion about the raid being too difficult but about bad balancing on consoles, people. Division 2 is definitely a lot harder than Div 1 was, especially due to not having full auto health recovery etc. but I already knew that balancing on consoles would be pretty shoddy.

I had years of slow PS4 download speeds but a quick Google search revealed my regional ISP wasn’t playing nice with the PS4 - obviously, since most people have perfectly fine internet speeds on their PS4 devices. All my PC game services were able to utilize the full speed of my connection. To make it short: Now, said ISP was bought by another big company, which also offered a new contract to me. Same speed lower price. A few days later: perfectly fine download/ upload speeds on my PS4. Case closed. There can be plenty of reasons for slow download speeds but the device itself is almost never the issue. Unless you think the WiFi module is defective which doesn’t seem plausible to me.

Firstly this is what devs have to do when it comes to game/patch certification on different platforms, cross-play etc. That poor dev narrative doesn’t convince me. Secondly the main reason the ESRB was created was due to massive public and political pressure, since the violent and sexual content was deemed too controversial. If publishers and developers could’ve had it their way, there would be no rating board at all. It wasn’t created to benefit anyone in the industry, it was forced by the US government. Steam took several titles down because of extremely questionable themes and once again it’s their right to set the rules as a platform holder. Sony draws the line at sexualized depictions of underage characters - there are other things to be more concerned about. (As in Sony is doing the right thing imo).I absolutely agree.

How is it terrible? It’s their platform and they can decide what content they want on it. Cracking down on sexualized underage content isn’t exactly discussion worthy, is it? Furthermore the ESRB is just a tool of the industry. They’ll do the bare minimum to not be regulated by the US government, so no issue will be solved that way. It’s an extension of the games industry and will act as such by doing nothing.

Realistically no because GTA sold 100+ million copies and not many folks seem to care. Besides, as long as GTA / RDR is set in English speaking territories it actually enhances immersion. On the other hand more options are always a good thing. GTA and MGS are the biggest franchises which come to my mind that have no localized dub for non-English speaking countries. MGS 1 was the only exception to this day and the German version is notorious for having terrible voice acting... For all other games it‘s neat, especially when other non-English games have “better” or equally good VA’s than the original. I for one prefer only RPGs in German for example because I need to understand all nuances of a dialogue.

While I’m confident that the chase for the most beautiful graphics will result in developers cutting into their own flesh, they still should be allowed to follow their own vision of games. We don’t need companies to dictate how games have to look and play like, except when it comes to the bare minimum like QA.

Yeah but you =/= everybody. It’s a process which is bound to happen, if given enough time. Of course this can be accelerated when living in an especially humid environment. It’s like blaming people for having greasy hands when the PS4 Dual Shock rubber on the analog sticks started to deteriorate for some. Same with YLOD and RROD on PS3/360. While it’s not an widespread issue, properly storing discs won’t automatically stop that from happening.

The opening is kinda memorable. Unfortunately it's all downhill from there. I always enjoyed the linear progression and classic story telling of the old MGS games. Starting with MGS V is also confusing and not represantative of the quality or perception of the franchise, due to V being a huge departure from all previous MGS concepts. The same goes for story telling which reminds me of Dark Souls gone completely wrong. The gameplay and visuals are fantastic though, it's just all other areas which are lackluster in my opinion.

Thread UK chart: The Division 2 is this week's UK No.1. Although launch physical sales are only 20% of what the original managed
Exactly, Brexit might be a factor in a few years at best. Don’t read too much into the uk numbers. My personal guesses are the uprising of f2p battle royal games, an increase of other gaas titles, a variety of other games to play this far into the console generation etc. I think most people who dab into Div 2 have already played the predecessor. Likewise if you haven’t played any Division game before, you’re getting a much better deal with the complete Div 1 Edition. Again waiting one or two years will even provide you with a much more expanded Div 2 game for a significantly lower price. The immediacy of purchasing games on day one isn’t there unless it’s a game like Red Dead, GTA or other industry behemoths. Also don’t forget that Ubisoft has a history of successful long term support for pretty much all recent games. Despite a difference in first week sales, titles like For Honor, Rainbow Six Siege, Assassins Creed: Origins, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, The Division all received large and steady updates. All that contributed to games which sell incredibly well, not mainly within the first week but within a span of years. Just look up the many new updates or modes Wildlands alone received, it’s almost absurd.

Bought this one used for obvious reasons and I really liked the game overall. Now to me it seems funny how the game is historically and gameplay-wise inaccurate with plenty of selective things like the protagonists father (without going into spoilers; it doesn’t make any sense), Italian clothing & armour in Bohemia?, perks which let you wait for weeks without starving etc. Aside from that, this must be one of the buggiest titles I ever came across and I’ve played every modern Bethesda RPG. Sometimes it feels like everything is held together by duct tape and breaks the moment you’re being too liberal with quick button presses. I achieved the “complete all quests” trophy on PlayStation, which is an almost impossible task considering the amount of times quests can’t be completed due to glitches. I had to use creative small exploits in order to finish broken quests in another way on a several occasions. Even the combat can be exploited by hugging an opponent and bashing them immediately afterwards. It really could’ve been an amazing game if it wasn’t for the obscene amounts of glitches and bugs. After all it has some stunning visuals and refreshing gameplay. It reminds me of a medieval ArmA sometimes.

The thing is I haven’t really paid any attention to the game when it was released. I was basically starting the game, only knowing it was an “immersive sim” game which was mentioned in the same breath as Deus Ex... and I like Deus Ex. As of now I managed to play a bit of the beginning and received that glue gun thingy. It was pretty good so far but I’m getting the impression this is more of a horror game. That’s pretty much the genre I always avoid because I’m really not enjoying jump scares and horror at all. So will this always be a thing? I don’t even seem to understand why this wasn’t being compared more to horror games instead of immersive sims. Those morphing little creatures annoy me more than anything else right now. I don’t want to be scared of every piece of junk. Maybe I simply haven’t played enough and things become different later on? Edit: Completely botched the title, sorry...

It’s a matter of where you want to live (near big cities or in a rural area). Many factors like that greatly affect your quality of life. Language is also immensely important, like you absolutely need to be fluent in whatever language and country you choose. Then also many Europeans fall in love with countries they visit as tourists and decide to move, because they felt the mentality in South American or South European countries is better. Most of them quickly realise once you start living there, pay rent, have the same stressful responsibilities as they had back home, suddenly the same old shit starts to annoy them which made them move in the first place. Of course it’s not always the case but you have to make an immensely thoughtful decision. Now the obvious positive perks are for instance generally good standards of living, lower crime, many social securities, great healthcare and education, maybe quite liberal governments - though all this will vary depending on where you want to live. I’m just talking about the rough “average EU country”.

Thread Is The US government agency, EPA, "stealing" Nintendo's assets?
The US government just shot themselves in the foot. I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance. What this means is the Japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to play “Recycle City Challenge” for either system, nor will they play any of the government’s games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but the US government has alienated an entire market with this move. USA, publicly apologize and cancel Recycle City Challenge or you can kiss your government goodbye.

Thread It seems like TES IV: Oblivion gets more abuse than it should. Why does Era seem so indecisive about it?
So, you have to realize that for the most part Era has an unhealthy obsession with hating on Bethesda games. That doesn’t represent the reality and full spectrum of players. Same can be said about the praise of smaller titles like Persona which are omnipresent here, while selling to a relatively small audience - compared to big AAA titles that is. It’s hard to guess if Oblivion had any major influence on the industry as it never sold nearly as well as Skyrim did. It borrowed a lot of systems from Morrowind and some QoL changes probably evolved alongside the game and didn’t directly derive from Oblivion. Maybe it inspired developers but I think aside from Kingdom Come not many games used Oblivion as a blueprint. Other games just followed suit because new console technology allowed it. Oblivion was also constantly being considered as an inferior game compared to Morrowind by the hardcore fan audience. It was only shortly before Skyrim released that people popped up who praised Oblivion as their first entry into the RPG genre. This game will always be a mixed bag since you have different generations of players who clash with each other: the disappointed Morrowind fans, the folks who grew up with it and people who played it much later when Skyrim became a mainstream hit. I will always have a soft spot for this game in my heart. I think it’s beautiful and fun and still play it regularly just like Mass Effect or Metal Gear Solid. It’s not for everyone and it doesn’t have to be. I’m certain Oblivion won’t have a relevant place in gaming history aside from semi-funny memes.

To me it seems weird how the engine is being used internally to share technology, advancements etc. so they don’t have “to start from scratch”, just to hear reports how the Andromeda team is struggling with basic things, despite the existence of DA: Inquisition which was developed years ago. There’s a foundation and previous experience ready to be shared for future projects, right? Is the engine like a scapegoat or am I missing something? On the other hand several EA devs commented on the supposedly “poor capabilities” Frostbite engine so I seriously don’t get it.

The hunt for completion is pure insanity on the other hand. Way too many of them require an absurd amount of time, become unachievable or are too hard to get. Far Cry 2 was ridiculous. The multiplayer trophies require you to get to max rank and collect weapon handbooks and this takes ~80 hours of focused boosting or 1000+ hours of legit gameplay. I remember XP sometimes not being rewarded after the match so that’s quite insane. In my desperation I actually gave my account to a stranger whom I found on a trophy site. Luckily he wasn’t some sort of scammer but I wonder how many people lost their accounts due to that trophy. Those GRAW achievements were nightmare fuel... ESO just requires you to become emperor (No. 1 on one of 4-5 pvp servers) but becoming Emp isn’t really hard. It’s a combination of luck, skill, time and support. There are constantly emperors being crowned every day, I’m guessing 10 per day.

Thread In hindsight, the Anthem reveal trailer is Watch Dogs / Killzone 2 levels of bullshit
Then you still don’t understand what vertical slices and most reveal trailers are all about. First off all they provide some sort of guideline / proof of concept in terms of visuals and gameplay loop/mechanics/structure - whatever. Ideally you want to get as close as possible to that idea but realistically a lot of stuff will be dialed back and cut. Sometimes it’s material for shareholders or the publisher to seek funding but we’re focusing on Anthem now. So thanks to the enormous marketing machinery required for AAA titles, EA probably wanted to show something early on for E3 and the rest is history. In the end the marketing folks decide when something is being shown, even if it’s just the game logo.Absolutely, that was something else to say the least. The question and answer by the dev was: “Is the [gameplay] we’ve seen so far still representative of the game?” His question stemming from a trend of titles downgrading game visuals compared to when they were first announced. The first half of Holmes’ response, a brief “Yep!,” was exciting to hear. So they didn’t “literally say it won’t be downgraded”. As far as I know Anthem is representative of what we saw in the trailer, albeit not without differences.

Thread In hindsight, the Anthem reveal trailer is Watch Dogs / Killzone 2 levels of bullshit
GTA V looked considerably “worse” compared to what was shown in the reveal trailer... and no one cared. It’s one thing to try making devs look like they try to deceive their customers with vertical slices but it’s obvious why Rockstar, Sony (UC4) and many other developers get a free pass. Because their games still look good after all - same thing with Anthem so I don’t get this thread. This is game development. Games are being adjusted throughout development so performance doesn’t suffer just because it doesn’t match the graphics of the trailer. Some studios can afford it to show their projects much later so that the end product matches with what we’ve seen in the reveal trailer. have done this and it’s normal, whether CDPR, EA or Bethesda in case no one noticed yet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thread Looking back on it, do you agree with GTA IV's 98 Metacritic score and critical acclaim?
Absofuckinglutely. For some reason it took 3 tries and half a year until the game clicked for me but when it did... oh boy was it good. The ingame physics simulations are amazing, sometimes amazingly over the top and experimental. That game was a huge generational leap over San Andreas; yes it didn't have the land mass, variety of vehicles and customization options but that's because it was different. GTA IV went in a different direction and focused on a world with tons of detail instead of massive scope alone. I spent hours upon hours doing parkour runs through Liberty City, exploring building interiors and doing silly stuff in online free-roam with friends. GTA IV was more about creating your own fun activities instead of picking a premade gamemode. A true sandbox. From what I remember you were also able to approach a mission in several different ways.

That might be due to material differences. The thing is every console even if they’re the same model, can produce fan noises of different magnitudes. Getting any sort of reliable data would require the testing of many hundred units. What matters whether it’s an A or B chassis at the moment. When we get this third revision that’ll matter too, not if it’s limited edition XYZ because they can be still identical models. The 500 million LE is identical to a standard CoD WII bundle unit. Same interiors, slightly different plastic - that’s it. It wouldn’t matter which of the 2 you get. You can also get a new noisy model so don’t rely on that alone. It’s a fan / production lottery more than anything else.

You can easily see the psychological effect that number can have on potential customers who don’t have time to inform themselves about all games out there. Thread With Fortnite and Rocket League getting full Cross-Play Support, I'd like to see The Elder Scrolls Online get it, too
It’s not happening because of addon-support (API UI stuff, not mods), giving PC players a huge advantage, along with 60 fps etc. Even the best PS4 guild is only somewhat ok compared to PC leaderboard scores due to the many advantages PC players have. The economy of PC and consoles are also quite different. ZoS often stated they want to keep PC and console versions separated because it’d create that unfair advantage some players would have on other platforms. Especially in PvP, huge battles cause consoles to drop into single digit frames which again results in a frustrating experience for the ones with weaker hardware. Once next gen consoles arrive, PS4/XBO would be screwed in such a scenario. Each version is also doing more than fine with each platform having a very healthy player population.

Some studios just don’t care. It’s being noticed but other things are more important so more often than not it just slips through from my experience. I forgot on how many occasions it was actually addressed after being reported, since not every console turns into jet engine mode. It also seems like it’s being constantly overlooked when in reality it’s being addressed but you won’t noticed because in the retail versions the main menu won’t make your console or PC take off, when that was the case in earlier builds. Games which don’t have any sort of “taxing” menus or maps (due to unlocked frame rates or fancy background particle / smoke effects) are still the majority after all.

To be fair it’s a lottery like many posted here before. My unit was a launch one, had it way earlier than most even but it became just as loud as in your videos, to a point where I couldn’t talk to people in game because the noise was unbearable through my headset microphone. The same problem persisted with my launch PS4. The constant switching between fan speeds and ridiculous noise levels in games like Star Wars made it sound like a vacuum cleaner. I even opened up my PS4 Pro and changed the thermal paste, which didn’t help at all. So I purchased the PS4 Pro CoD WWII bundle on Black Friday and guess what. It’s one of those mythical whisper quiet units. The Blu Ray drive is louder than the fan! The game sounds great overall and it has been on my “wanted” list for quite some time. Though I never got around actually buying the game out of fear that I would dislike the RPG mechanics. Reading through the description from the OP, I‘d probably prefer a character like Kain from LoK who doesn’t bat an eye when it comes to killing his prey for their blood. I really don’t want to be stuck in this artificial environment where my two decisions are to help or to kill. Except if the character wouldn’t show any regret for it when playing as a “bad guy”. MediEvil 2 was an exceptional game in my opinion and deserves to be remade. I have very low hopes for the franchise to continue after the remake(s) but maybe this will be a proper resurrection this time...These guys are extremely nice. I remember when one of them thanked me for my comment on YouTube on one piece of soundtrack they made. You never see composer browsing random YT comments but they’re clearly personally interested in the franchise and proud of their work.

Damn, imagine having an opinion. What a weirdo, amirite. Call it outrage or toxicity but it’s getting ridiculous at times. Just look at every Bethesda thread here on Era where people are being criticized for liking a game like Fallout 76. Imagine being one of those sad clowns who are attacking other people for liking stuff they don’t like. Personally I’m not interested in all games, nor do I love all games but being mad about someone playing Fortnite, PUBG or whatever games they play? I genuinely fail to understand why. Having a normal discussion on a forum becomes impossible at times. At least that’s my observation.

Charming. I’m not sure how one option compromises the other, you’d need to explain this one. You can clearly feel Bethesda games are designed for first person gameplay, yet the third person view has no negative effect on the other perspective. It takes more time to integrate two options into the game but well that’s game development. PC modders will absolutely be able to pull it off after launch - let’s pray they don’t compromise the first person view by doing that.

Not sure why they aren’t giving the option to toggle between first and third person. In Bethesda games I like using 3rd person for exploration or generally walking around and first person for the rest and it works perfectly fine. Being forced into only one option is pretty disappointing, more choices for the player is always a good thing.

Pretty much this, also by the time I might be interested in indie games, some AAA game I previously missed are on sale and unfortunately I’d rather play them instead. Now the games on the Switch eShop are vastly different from what’s available on PS4 and Xbox so indies tend to stick out a lot more. Thread Were the Remastered PlayStation 2 Classics on PlayStation 4 a missed opportunity?
We were soooo close getting GTA VCS but I think it’s cancelled at this point. Implementing trophies took too long. They had only one guy on it as far as I remember reading somewhere. It’s a quite a Sony-thing to do something half-arsed, instead of churning out a bunch of stuff quality content first and winding stuff down if it doesn’t work out. Only very few (sometimes odd) games have been released every couple of weeks which just wasn’t enough. Sony could’ve easily put more of their good first party stuff up. I imagined something like Killzone, GoW, SOCOM, Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, The Getaway etc. right after the GTA trilogy was released. They always hope their customers to buy stuff and only then show some incentive which isn’t the way to go. It’s impossible to tell how much of a money sink this was (I imagine it was still profitable) but the whole PS2 to PS4 program was one big mishandled disappointment.

See even in Germany it’s like that, because EVERYONE leaves their keys usually on a small shelf near the door. Often times you have multiple keys and don’t throw them around your house like a frisbee. You walk in and leave the key right on the shelf. If you can’t find the key, which you used not too long ago to enter your own house then others would probably think you’re demented. I’m not saying it’s not possible but it’s extremely rare and it personally only happened once to me which took me 2 minutes to find my keys. I think it’s incredibly unlikely to have your home burning down and losing your key inside on the same day, to the point where it’s more likely to trip over your shoe laces and break your neck. That’s the real danger no one talks about.

The first game was phenomenal (after all expansions have been released). So in theory they’d have a critically acclaimed action title: - if they could keep all interesting aspects of the the first one (character builds, tons of clothing & customization, PvP, very enjoyable high difficulty missions) - keep fun modes like Underground and Survival, next to the base game - and expand on the scope of the first game What I fear is a Destiny GOTY Edition -> Destiny 2 type of situation where you practically get a similar game with less content.

A star indicates that the item is a legendary one. Next to the stars you can see up to 5 legendary mod slots. Each weapon or gear piece can theoretically have 5 unique effects. Though the highest I’ve seen is 3 stars, while a 4 star can be apparently modded. You can mod them like any other normal gear piece / weapon.I’d personally not recommend you to farm the plan for a few reasons: It’s not really a fun thing to do, unless you really don’t mind investing a certain amount of time. They drop quite often from legendary enemies, sometimes with a legendary effect (I currently have a two-shot one) so at that point your crafting plans become obsolete as you can’t craft anything better than a legendary one. Once you reach lvl 40 you should see them also dropping more often and when they do, they’re pretty much always fully modded. You’d need to deconstruct a bunch of them to be able to craft handmades with similar mods which again takes more time, than waiting for the gun to drop from a high level enemy. As a bonus you get additional motivation to continue playing I guess :)

Most likely because whatever build people are testing isn’t representative of the current state of the game. The (public) alphas you’ve been testing have already went through a lot of QA.

That’ll never happen though. Framerate is a design choice, not really influenced by hardware. You can play 60 fps PS2, PS3 games but naturally many devs aim for graphics over framerate. The hardware is fixed on consoles so unlike on PC you can’t upgrade to make a demanding game better.

Thread Console only gamers: what, if anything, do you think you are missing out on?
Some of the best modern game concepts I’d say. On PC it’s really easy to come up with a new genre/style of game through modding. Like I played the DayZ mod when it was relatively fresh and fell in love with the survival + pvp concept. Years before the survival craze actually spawned AAA games like this. Same with battle royal. Now these sort of games are on console but I already played them for hundreds of hours before “it was cool” and such a thing is only possible on PC. Some games like Star Citizen obviously which will need more capable consoles, ArmA Life RPG mods, Garry’s Mod, many MMOs, MOBAs, RTS games will not be experienced by console players for different reasons. I eventually stopped playing PC games because I spent more time tweaking performance, trying to make some older games run (can’t play GTA IV until this day) and modding my games, than actually playing them. Not having to worry about those things on console is very liberating.

I’d say vMoL HM is much harder; it just doesn’t seem like it because people had years to learn mechanics. Plus most folks glitched their Dro mathra destroyer titles. vAS +2 isn’t terribly hard with plenty of nightblades but at least on PS4 EU (endgame) guild drama, a lower endgame player count and the general state of endgame lead to many people having a hard time finding a good guild. We did +1 but the hardest enemy to fight are currently changing guild rosters and roles, more than anything else...

On normal it takes about 20 minutes in a good group for any normal trial. Veteran highly depends on the trial. vHoF / vMoL are extremely hard for normal players so estimates don’t make sense as you spend weeks or months, trying to practice a completion in a group for those. vAA, vSO and vHR take about 25-45 minutes for a casual group. The mini trial vAS is also rather short with roughly 20-30 minutes. Absolutely depends on your group; you may get stuck for hours in a trial if there are many inexperienced players in your team.

ESO endgame is very much one of the most exciting ones which keep you invested for years. Endgame = fancy & rare character skins for completing the hardest dungeons and trials. The process of seamlessly switching from a solo player to being in a trial team happens to many, including me. Gearwise you’ll be set relatively quickly, even though it’ll take some sweet time to get a complete golden BiS set, depending on your class and role. Housing and furnishing is always fun when you’re tired of fighting, so you have a chance to satisfy the creative side of yours. Other than that 12 man trials are endgame and extremely fun. I worked months on getting the Dro m’athra and golden skin. At first you won’t like them but the “I want it too” effect is really kicking in once you realize they’re hard to get. Especially getting them legitimately by working your way up in aguild, which isn’t difficult at all. Working on your DPS as a damage dealer or refining your healing, tanking skills is another deep and fun layer of the game. The big difference though is that ESO offers leaderboards for the harder solo, trial and PvP content + weekly rewards which is pretty unique and surprisingly fun. I was never a competitive person but seeing your name on the continent wide server is something special :-) To make it short: even compared to FF14 the end game is pretty amazing, so don’t worry about hitting a “I’ve got nothing to do” wall in a looong time if you enjoy PvE.So am I and most of the people I know. There are only a few top raid guilds still active in EU due to most of the common folk starting somewhere around One Tamriel and catching up with the content to a point where there isn’t much to do. CwC and Morrowind while being nice on their own never offered nearly enough end game activities to keep us entertained until the next big add on (probably Sumerset Isles). If anyone’s trying to freshly start now to play PVE stuff... well, let’s say if you want to get into the raid scene in the end, you could play for ~2 years without running out of things to do.

Indeed. Especially trials are very fun and great endgame content. I started with normal trials about a year ago and just a couple of weeks ago, managed to get the golden skin. It can take month to find a perfect team for veteran trials, could be also a matter of minutes if you have good connections in the game. It slowly introduces you to the social aspect of the game and it’s just so much fun. I never intended to play it as a multiplayer game and here I am with a successful trial guild and a bunch of very good friends. Either way, completeting those normal/vet trials, starting to do hardmodes and ultimately getting those rare skins requires a lot of teamwork most of the time and the feeling of achievement at the end when you finally achieved your goal is just incredible.

Everything Redshirt mentioned basically. Just to add something to what you can do if you want to dive deeper into PVE: DLC isn’t a required step or even next step, as you’ll already gain a good amount of skill points back by respecting your character. I’d say the DLCs are very nice additions to the base game zones and that’s it. Also the most fun way to raise your CP level. Once you dive deep into veteran PVE content, DLCs do become required and expected but you should probably: - get into Vet dungeons first. That way you’re getting those monster helmets and shoulders which are basically required for many classes to be somewhat good. You won’t get into good groups a lot of the times due to the difference in player experience. Just stick to it or join a guild / find friends to join you. - make sure to check out build guides/videos since you’re over CP 160. Do you want to tank, heal or deal damage? In case you want to become a damage dealer (DD), you must choose between stamina and magicka. The latter one being more survivable, popular and flexible for quite a while already. While stamina is fluctuating between useless and on par with magicka. - get into guilds. It’s incredibly useful to be in a trading, beginner friendly PVE or PVP guild. You suddenly have so many resources and contacts at your disposal. You’ll quickly get into trial runs if the guild is doing them and collect your first taste of more advanced group content.

Thanks for commenting :) this is my very first OT so I hope some people like it.There's a ton of DLC indeed but the good thing is you don't have to play the DLCs in order to have that complete experience. I'd even suggest to play the standard content first, before jumping into the DLCs - that is if you feel discouraged or overwhelmed. It's important to focus on a single zone for example, so you know how progression works. As soon as you're "done" with the zone in your opinion, you can go the next one. At that point you know how the game works on a big scale and it takes away that feeling of "there's more to do than I can handle".

It’s not their decision in many cases. After all 3rd parties own the rights and can decline to have their games on that system. Some examples: THPS license expired for Activision recently. Gran Turismo features tons of licensed cars so it wouldn’t be on that collection anyway. I don’t even know if EA owns the rights to that Harry Potter game. You throw marketing flaws and not catering to right-wings into the same argument of yours. What monetary or moral value would they gain from catering to the most toxic of their audiences? This makes no sense apart from sounding like the “I’m an expert about Japanese culture” meme. Star Wars performed and still performs stellar, so does the Battlefield series. My mates enjoyed these games quite a lot surprisingly.

Thread Post your unreasonable video game stances here
Blood Omen 2 was the best game in the LoK franchise. Its industrial yet beautifully dark levels put the muddy and unenjoyable atmosphere in Soul Reaver games to shame. The game mechanics are simple and fun at the same time. Kain alone was more interesting in that game than all protagonists I’ve played during the last 5 years of playing video games. While the Soul Reaver franchise was still exceptional, it’ll never come close to one of the masterpieces of the PS2 era: Blood. Omen. 2!

Because I’d say any previous Fallout is a better and more polished product than this. Of course 76 can be a fun experience with friends but come on... my friend and I are enjoying it a lot but none of us would say 76 is even close to the single player iterations. Also the way the review was written and the score don’t match up.

I’m not sure they gave any thought about how the game will be received. They must’ve known that: - The game isn’t performing well. - There will be plenty of bugs, let’s release it ASAP. - Audio logs instead of human NPCs are a terrible idea. - Horrible reviews incoming, no need to delay. - First Patch is an additional 50 GB These points probably have been internally reviewed, someone looked at them and said “That’s fine”. I can’t think of anything they could’ve done to worsen this game launch... they did everything except lootboxes. Are they trying to sabotage themselves?

So how long do I keep the starter Pickachu in my roster? This is my first Pokémon game ever and I’m a bit insecure what to do with the Pokémon’s I catch and how to sort out 6 for my fights. From what I understand this game is simplified compared to others games in the franchise. Though I easily beat Misty, I want to avoid running into endgame issues.

Thread "...The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry" - was Jack Tretton Right?
I’m not saying we need it but it wouldn’t be an inherently bad thing in the case of Sony. It always could’ve been better but PC gaming only flourished because of digital so at the time it wasn’t possible technology-wise and we never got to experience Sega in a position of power so that’s highly speculative. What we did get a taste of is Microsoft’s intentions and Nintendo which also was fine until they wanted the industry for themselves and actively screwed publishers; not so much their customers. I’m always up for competition which respects the industry and doesn’t try to leave behind scorched earth.

Thread "...The environment where PlayStation wins is best for this industry" - was Jack Tretton Right?
Why can it not be good though? We had the Sony stranglehold you described for 2 generations straight and gaming flourished during those times. There was never an indication that Sony was trying to actively screw over their customers unlike Microsoft during the XBO reveal. MS tried during a time of game passes, a struggling games industry, to destroy the used games market and lock customers into whatever they mandate on their platform. This was in a generation of selling slightly less consoles than Sony, so who knows what they would’ve done if they were actually “winning”. They don’t seem to care too much about the health of the overall industry or regions when given a position of power. What you can say about Sony is they are often too slow on their own with changes but overall they don’t squeeze out money out of customers for the sake of making money. Maybe it’s the Japanese mentality within the company or the global/worldwide presence but I personally trust them more than any other company. Even Nintendo had more draconian methods when dealing with 3rd parties during the NES/SNES era. The only remotely similar thing I know of Sony is demanding the IP ownership when developing with/for them, since they couldn’t keep their PS1 mascots like Crash and Spyro.

I had this glitch before the patch, so it simply wasn’t fixed yet. Interestingly enough I’ve encountered the very same glitch in previous Fallout games on 360 and PS4. It’s an annoyance since only restarting the game fixes this.

Does anyone happen to know where to get Handmade plans? It’s really hard finding the right plans for the stuff I want to craft and finding all individual weapon part plans seems like an endgame goal. I really have to restrict myself from playing it since I’m out leveling my friend in no time >.>It’s decent on the PS4 Pro. Definitely more stable framerate than Fallout 4, but when it stutters every now and then it can be brutal. Especially in larger fights.

Brotherhood of Steel is really fun and diverse so far. Also the only quest line so far in which I’m actively listen to the story and holotapes. The mystery something questline, involving a superhero-like club of ladies is also really good. Also the army boot camp must’ve been one of the funniest quests I’ve played. Highly recommended.

Players under level 5 can't participate in PvP and thus not be killed. Once you reach level 5 other players can attack you but killing someone who doesn't want to engage in PvP is crazy hard to kill - I went to another players base and he accidently attacked me which triggered 5 of his turrets which were firing at me.. and I lost next to no HP.

This. Additionally: - Get enough power armor chassis for your power armor parts. You can put the parts onto the chassis, collect the whole thing and voilà everything weighs 10 instead of the combined weight of all individual armor parts (except when those parts have a higher level than you, then storing them individually is necessary). Correct me if I’m wrong. - Rockets and Mini-Nukes take loads of space. Only keep what you really need. - Make use of the strength skill and perks (carry +40 weight perk, junk is 75% lighter etc.). Each point into strength raises your max carry limit. Ballistic ammo isn’t that heavy but if you’re carrying 2k of 0.308 rounds then it’s better to drop most of it. There are also perks for making all types of weapons lighter. Same for Stimpacks, chems and food since that can also become very heavy quickly. I easily carry 30-40 kg of chems and food with me, so perks can help you to reduce its weight dramatically. So you’re better off not overloading your stash with 1kg stimpacks when they weigh 0.5 in your inventory. You can then store other stuff in your stash instead. Same with junk, though you can lose that when you die so be mindful about that. Obviously the closer you get to lvl 50, the easier it becomes to carry 3-4 weapons with plenty of space still available.

My inventory is full of adhesive now, because the best way to farm is to kill those bee monsters (honey beasts)! They drop tons of adhesive; I have to check where that place is it’s like a resort with wooden houses and there should be 4-5 of them. When I killed them with a friend of mine, they actually respawned due to that annoying spawn bug and since then I never had to worry about adhesive again. Those honey beasts were somewhere between lvl 15-20 I think and their loot is quite amazing. You can also easily hide inside the houses in which they can’t get in. So bring a few mines, Molotov cocktails or explosives with you and you should be fine. You can find the location south west of top of the world, on the right side of the railroad. You’ll see the location on your map as a collection of cabins.

Most of what you said about solo play is correct. The world can feel empty playing alone, since it’s clearly tailored for multiplayer. As soon as you start playing with a friend the non-existence of human NPCs or in general less NPCs is quite liberating. Like in ESO talking to quest givers and NPCs during quests is annoying, results in one person having to wait for the other to finish the dialogue or the need to rush through dialogue can be annoying. It’s basically interrupting the flow of the game. Playing solo though it feels lacking, though it depends on how much you value those interactions. Regarding exploration: I had very rewarding experiences. Though it’s true that you can walk around for hours and find nothing, it seems to depend which areas you’re currently exploring. Found plenty of weapons, unique items, quests and fun location on the eastern side of the map. The west side on the other hand was me wasting 2 hours exploring low level areas with next to none interesting quests. It felt like the starter area I should’ve visited first. Getting to the right quest lines is important to not lose motivation when playing solo and from what I can tell they’re NOT on the west side. Some really good quests are also relatively easy to miss which doesn’t help. They'd have to disable players visible on the map. Otherwise you could just stalk them. I'd also have to log out all the time instead of going AFK. After all they had to cater to PVE and PVP players which never works out. The best solution would be PVE/PVP servers.

Was anyone able to get interesting clothing, masks or helmets (aside from the skull stuff which everyone knows about by now)? I read about Forest Scout Armor / Masks but haven't seen it anywhere on the internet. Same with the Urban Combat Armor. If anyone can provide pictures of them or other stuff, a location where it can be found etc. it'd be greatly appreciated. So far I've been able to get police, army (clean) stuff, mine worker outfits and overall more common/unspectacular cosmetic items.

There are a bunch of songs from 3 and 4. I don't think any NV tracks are in there. No Johnny Guitar :( I find it quite annoying to listen to some tracks because I've listened to them for hundreds of hours in 3, then hundreds of hours in 4. Songs like Civilization are in 3 damn games now! It drives me crazy. I hate it. For me this is by far the worst aspect of the game as of now, surprisingly.

Pictures don’t work for me in the OP (can recommend abload.de as an alternative hosting site). Extremely hyped to get back into the game again with my buddy.
