Thread Animal Crossing: New Horizons |OT2| The Most Metal Of All Threads
Ok, I can MAYBE understand your Axe and Shovel breaking. Fine. Even your Fishing pole... ok whatever. But why does your watering can and Sling Shot need to break? Such a weird design decision. Also is it beneficial to water plants even after they bloom? I feel like I heard its how you get more to sprout.

Thread Devs react to PS5 specs - Twitter edition
So weird some of the sentiments here, "First Part devs are excited, DUH let's hear from the devs that have to work on multiplatform!". Why? Why would a tech that would fundamentally change how you make a game pertain to a developer that is not utilizing that tech? No, 3rd party devs can't utilize this tech to its fullest because then those games would not work on any other hardware configuration... whys this a shock? There will be fundamental help from having a system with an SSD, but you cannot develop your game around it when working multiplatform (for now, hopefully this forces everyone to utilize SSD configuration).

Ok, for some reason I wanted to not like this game. So I played it with a pessimistic attitude, but ended up really enjoying it. DAMMIT, I have so many games to play. Although I do have a hard time seeing this game succeed well potentially. It was a lot of fun tho and I will regularly be playing it.

Thread Do you think AAA studios should calm down with their pursuit of visual showcase and high production value?
Yea don't believe that artists should stop striving for more just because people feel its "good enough", there should be opportunities for games ect. that don't strive for a high level of visual quality and innovation, but I feel every department should be pushing for their best. It's up to the director to discern what is most important... I get a lot of gamers don't value the strides a lot of artists have accomplished in the game visual realm, but there are a lot of people that value this medium of visual story telling and want to see it evolve. Also good luck telling game artists to "calm down" and stop pushing it. ;)

You can look at it like, yea you might be rank #285877 out of #524039, but you are still "better" than 238,162 people... which is still something? Don't focus on how far you have to go, but how far you have come and grown.

Thread Dreams |OT| What Games Are Made Of
Very true, but I think in those cases they used a main game as a base, where as Dreams doesn't really have one solid game mechanic as its base, the story that Media Molecule crafted is exceptional, but not necessarily open to interesting derivation within its mechanic parameters. Again, hopefully I'm wrong... Just not sure if we'd ever get to a point where you'll be telling your buddies to load up Dreams so we can do a round or two of _______. What it might do is work as a prototype concept and then push towards a full game production based on that concept. And don't read this as me saying, "Its been a week where are the master-pieces!" I definitely think they will come and be pretty close to a working thing, but I'm not sure if the audience will be there in 1-2 years when it finally happens...

Thread Mass Effect 3: Selling Javik and his story as a DLC is still one of the shittiest thing a developer has done in video game history
Wow, totally forgot about this. Also I love hearing stories like this, because at the time it feels like -- this is how the future is going to be, this is the way it is. And it's clearly not (regardless of how people complain). It was incredibly shitty and not just for lacking him in the game, but for hearing from gamestop, in a fucking ad, "UNLOCK THE PROTHEAN CHARACTER TO HAVE ON YOUR SQUAD!" like... what a huge colossal fucking weird twist/spoiler to be revealed in a horrible marketing campaign. I remember I was livid.

Thread Dreams |OT| What Games Are Made Of
Man, this game blows my mind and I feel like it deserves some type of Technology award. They actually pulled off combining a game engine with a sculpting program with a music mixing program with a painter program with a modeling program with a rigging tool with an animation suite ect. ect. It's mind boggling. As a game dev, I wish I could invest time into this, but it's basically learning a new engine for me... a lot of this shit is how all games are made. With all that said however, I unfortunately cannot see this game having any legs at all. Without a proper pay model that would incentives creators to make full polished products, it's hard to keep a players interest in the "products" made with this engine. The honest most difficult part of a games development is the last 5-10% of its creation, which is the toughest most grindy part and I can't see many creators getting to that point. While they made a super compelling Engine an engine is only as good as its software... hopefully I'm wrong though!

Looks great and I'm so excited... BUT, man is it not the same thing. I was hoping for a couple big advancements, the biggest seems to be the ability to effect the landscape and outdoor decorations. Just wish there was something like farming or mining ect. to change it up a tadddd... Still ultra excited for it though. Can't figure out if its better to play in separate islands or share an island with SO...

Thread The TGS 2006 trailer for White Knight Chronicles was kinda ridiculous
No idea why I was so seething overly excited for this game, haha. Controversial opinion though, but I do feel like we lost something when we left the overly ambitious blue-sky bullshot phase. It's nice to see what could be possible in the future and I'd say FFXV pretty much captured the feeling of that trailer. It would be kind of cool to have a presentation or something once a year, called "Far future of gaming" where they fund some compelling bullshots of what games in the future might be like.

Thread Let’s discuss what Mass Effect 1 got right that the sequels fell short on
Yessss, these have always been my exact feelings on the subject as well, thanks for writing them out. It all comes down to feeling like you are in something much grander then you yourself. In Mass Effect 1, the Galaxy felt vast and never-ending, it felt even scary at times the weight of the Universe and not knowing what is out there. Which I guess didn't make a good game for a lot of people, since a common design philosophy is eliminating player steps - the player has to be engaged at all times, having a vast open planet of nothing is RULE #1 NONO. But when losing that, we lose that expansive feeling and the power it brings with it. Made me really disheartened when I first played Mass Effect 2 (after media blackout) and realized it traded in its soul for a punchier story/game. Which I ultimately grown to love and think its a fantastic game that I'd recommend, but it never filled that void left. Andromeda looked like it could try and fill that, which it did in some regard, but ultimately didn't get anything else right. With a game like Death Stranding doing decently, I hope that shows that there is room for big Triple A titles that rely on whats not there as much as what is.

Thread Red Dead Redemption after Red Dead Redemption 2 - beware spoilers
Jesus, she's a national treasure. That was wonderful and really moved me in a way, someone of her generation taking the time to approach a new art form fully and immersed in it. And the admiration she has for her son, the way she writes feel as if I found a letter from Dutch's mother in the game.

Thread Geoff Keighley is skipping E3
My first E3 was 2005, all that definitely inspired and pushed me into game development. Being able to show off my game on a big stage and then experiencing the energy from the show was always a huge draw. It’s really devastating to me to lose this thing that I knew for most of my life. I really hope Geoff is the savior and brings back some of the spectacle that made games feel special... I know for a lot of gamers here the direct style is preferred, but I hope you understand what this sort of show does for team moral and confidence in your projects. It is definitely a blow losing some of that luster!

Thread Which Challenger Pack in the Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass is your favorite?
- 8.2/10 : Never played Persona, but my wife is super into it and was excited that this character can represent that franchise, but didn't mean TOO much to me. - 6.2/10 : I feel like playing Joker it's like he's not that fun/powerful when he's not in his "Persona mode" and when he gets in his persona mode he's almost too powerful and odd feeling? His moves aren't super interesting either and his final smash is lackluster... - 2/10 : Yea, really didn't move a face muscle when he was shown, I like the multiple skins for him so that was somewhat interesting - 8.2/10 : He has a pretty unique feeling moveset and the Mana gauge thing is interesting although somewhat confusing? Trying to remember his abilities from the selection menu is equally as fantastic/frustrating. His final smash is probably the worst final smash out of any character (in terms of flashiness) - 9.85/10 : Definitely one of my top wants for a character in Smash since the N64 era, love Banjo!! - 6.5/10 : His moveset feels a bit lacking in what could have made him a more interesting character, his Bomb feels useless at times and his Kazooie gun feels cumbersome. He's kind of a Side Special character, but then you run out of Gold Feathers and you are like, aight... his final smash is also pretty lame. - 4.2/10 : Having a character from this game (I'm not confident to say Final Fight or whatever its name) was interesting, but was never into that franchise so didn't really care too much.- 5/10 : Just feels like an average fighting character to me, not much to say.- 1.5/10 : lol what...- We'll see, looks somewhat interesting? But pretty derivative. Not sure why I spent the time to do this, but felt compelled to at the moment. Honestly my favorite DLC character is Piranha plant, the most interesting by far with a more interesting final smash than anyone else.

Surprise 100%, mostly because I know how actual development works and game development is just one big surprise anyways. Promising shit before making it is always sketchy. I love the reveal Smash does when the character is done and ready.

Yeaaaa, I was really enjoying Death Stranding, I would take my time and just relax. Eventually my coworkers were already finished with it and were like, "You are only on chapter 1?!" and that made me feel self conscious so I started rushing it, which completely kills that game. It's not an enjoyable game to rush. I also get this physical uneasiness sometimes with games, this pressure to just finish it and it becomes unenjoyable, prob my ADD. But it's incredibly frustrating.

Honestly to me it always felt like Microsoft bowed out of the console race when they announced all their games will be on PC as well. They are in the PC market now, not necessarily the console market... and the new Xbox shows that it's just a PC like device for those that don't want to build a big beefy PC. I've always said this game will go unmatched in terms of absolute graphical polish and quality. Nice post OP, really liked reading this. I think it is an incredibly interesting discussion because it falls in-line with the Superman dilemma; Your source material is outwardly against game mechanics because of the over-powered nature of their devices. It's very hard to stop Superman from getting wherever he wants to get to and same goes with a lightsaber. But games have to make concessions in order to achieve this balance.Respawn has addressed this (in the most recent trailer it is evident).

Thread So what makes a good Lightsaber Combat System? (Gifs!)
You wont ever really get correct, "Plasma sword" combat until a game outside of the Star Wars genre does a Plasma Sword. But you will get proper lightsabers that behave like they do in the Fantasy that is Star Wars, which is different to scientific fact. That's always been the issue with making Star Wars things, it was never a franchise set in scientific realism, it has always been fantasy. So you have two camps of thought that conflict with each other, "a REAL lightsaber would do X" but that is not correct to what it is... it's a fantasy weapon used to depict fantasy encounters in a way the story-teller wants it to.

You are so strange though, I think the clown comments come from you criticizing games like God of War, Uncharted and Last of Us as soul-less cash cows that shouldn't be deemed as art. While saying you cried because Gears 5 ended and how emotionally resounding that game is to you. How does that not stink of bias?

Why speak so objectively though, that is completely subjective and you should just stick to what you enjoy... I liked Hellblade but LOVED Last of Us, I didn't like Sunset Overdrive and LOVED Spider-man, Control was ok but God of War is a master-piece. That's the whole point of this medium is different experiences for different people, I just loathe when people talk so objectively, "Maybe ONE day these studios can make something good!". Acting like this is Universal opinion that Sunset-Overdrive is better than Spider-man?

Yea but, yall are the ones also that didn't want items that actually affected or enhanced the game in anyway, so developers pushed away from that line of thinking and just put it into cosmetics that have very little impact on the game itself and are pricing them in a way that takes into account running an entire F2P game, ramping up an entire team to provide free content till the end of the games run. Yea it's not perfect, but acting like its some predatory act that is taking advantage and ruining lives is so disingenuous. It could be better and they are taking strides to make it better, even the event being criticized is being changed to be better. And it's funny how people are criticizing the lack of value behind paying for a single skin, when that's all I've ever heard gamers want, is for the pay items not to be overly valuable so if you decide you don't want to spend money you wont be disappointed as a non paying customer. Shouldn't all this just justify yourself in not paying to play the game, instead of complaining it's not giving you enough?

Thread Apex Legends developers spark outrage after calling gamers “dicks”, “ass-hats”and “freeloaders”
So I guess I don’t understand the alternative? I’m assuming you think just the existence of f2p mp games are predatory. So what is the alternative? There are a lot of people that really love Apex, just NOT making it would be really disappointing. So charging a base price? You couldn’t charge $60 for a mp only br game. So $40? But no other Br game is paid to play, so you’ll surely be dead by now if you did that. So you copy the models out there already? But now you have to charge for thing piece meal, which becomes “predatory” no matter what... so what do you do? Price it so that all cosmetics in the game are total to $40? But then you have the majority of players buying 1-2 skins paying $1-2. How is that sustainable? I definitely think $18 is way too much, but I feel most people that wouldn’t buy a $18 skin wouldn’t buy a $10 skin. Which is what that dev was saying... Who knows though. This is all so esoteric and superficial. My dream would be to have a like town hall where devs and gamers could just talk about shit, I hate all the arguing.

Thread Apex Legends developers spark outrage after calling gamers “dicks”, “ass-hats”and “freeloaders”
I think it all started when some gamers started “calculating” it all out and determining the “full price” when in reality it’s most likely much different than that. Yes, if you buy every skin ever it costs: $472747 but the majority of players buy 1-3 skins at most: for their fav char and fav gun, regardless of price. So being a free game you have to have the price match that. I’ve heard people say, “$20 for a skin! That’s like an entire witcher expansion!!” But you for sure know if Cdpr was to release their Witcher expansion for free and then a $20 Gerald with a hat skin, players would be praising them for being so generous.

Kind of agree for myself, I feel when I play most indie-games I get what they are going for in the first 5-10 minutes and don't expect any surprises, just because of the nature of making a game on a tiny budget, you can't really invest time in radically shifting or having huge surprises 5-10 hours into the game. I tend to find myself thinking, this game is really interesting I wonder what it'd be like as a full production with a full budget. ect. ect. But that's also just the nature of my business I guess. Hell no, as a developer I love working on them. Because you basically have a locked off platform where you are trying to squeeze everything out of it and as long as it runs well you can keep pushing it. Multiplatform is a pain because sometimes even if its running well, you have to drag out things that might be too expensive for lower end PC's or older consoles. Or just in general to be better safe than screwed. That's why most platform exclusives tend to look better at release, whereas multiplatforms tend to look a bit worse.

Thread Dunkey - Game Critics (Part 2) - It's actually about the gaming community
That's more because there was so much garbage in the 80's/90's, that the whole scale HAD to be used. I think a lot of modern day gamers don't understand that for a game to even be playable from start to finish without some game breaking bug that would never get patched was an accomplishment. Let alone any cohesion with the game mechanics at all, every game having brand new controls that you'd have to suffer with, lack of support or any progression systems. ect. ect. We all remember the very few exceptional titles that were the cream of the crop, but it wasn't the entire picture. So we definitely still have that metric of; if a game is actually playable and functional it is at least a 6/10. It just so happens that most games out now are very much playable and generally well polished. These are not films that can be viewed objectively, there are still a lot of miraculous systems that have to work together to even function AS a game.

Nobody agrees on anything I do like Murray's quote that people will notice the issues, but wont ever have decent solutions. But that's generally the case that we KNOW what the issues are, it's generally seeing if it matters or not (that's the hardest part). And there are janky-af games that are beloved by fans where they look over a lot of things, so it's hard to gauge how important certain things are during development.

The toxicity in the Gaming Community is definitely something I wish in my life time can be improved, but it's also just due to the overall intense passion a lot of people have about this entertainment. Calling out devs as individuals and harassing them is the literal worst way to go about things, because generally they are right there with you hoping for change and want things to improve, even more adamantly than you at times. With all that said I was definitely bummed out with Sword and Shield and hope they can use some of their wide wealth pool and value to create a proper TRIPLE A Studio that allows for a higher degree of fidelity with their main titles in the future. It's honestly hard fighting against the generation you grew up with, because I'm playing 80% less games than I did back in the day. But that's due to aging and my brain dying, not enjoying things as much and feeling like I'm wasting too much time. But I absolutely agree, I think this is 100% the best it has ever been. Even if you were to ignore all Triple A games (Which I still think are by far the best they've been), you have a vast array of Indie Titles that fit every category you could possibly want. This is something that is absolutely great, not having to learn a new control scheme or ways to play a game everytime you pick up a new title. But then it definitely creates a feeling of familiarity and "samieness" to every title, which is a bummer. Honeslty don't know if there is an answer. If a Triple A shooter was to switch it up and make like LEFT stick Aiming and the Face Buttons movement, gamers would riot. EVEN if after 15+ hours of gameplay it actually allows for more interesting mechanics than the traditional layout.

There are probably articles around that explain it better than I. But it was like, you select which Episode you want and then you are sent out into space in a "hub" sort of flying area. You see the planets from that episode in the distance and you can fly to them (fairly quickly), as the demoer was approaching Tatooine (Was playing Ep6), a Star Destroyer appeared and started firing on the Millenium Falcon he was piloting. Then you see some markers on the planet itself and can choose which to fly down to, once you fly close enough it transitions into a cinematic of you landing. So not like No Man Sky, but close-ish. And for a Lego game I was pretty blown away.

All the while having a compelling story and cast, where you can remember like 15+ characters that all have their unique personalities and are all so interesting. And taking a first-take "Boring generic stale character" Arthur Morgan and turning him into one of the most compelling well thought out game characters in years, surpassing my love for John Marston, is an incredible accomplishment.

I’m honestly absolutely baffled, Pokemon sword and shield looks legit bad, uninspired and too similiar. Yet I feel these games don’t get the scrutiny every other game gets, we have threads breaking down how a game is garbage because the main characters hair is too dithered, yet there is nothing they are doing in this that seems at all redeemable and yet people are hyped. I’d be fine if it was not the highest grossing franchise of all time, but its inexcusable at this point. I love love Pokemon, it just bums me out that we are still stuck in the same formula. Same sounds, same transitions and cameras, same type of formula, graphically/artistically very uninspired, animation very unappealing. I was just hoping for the Breath of the Wild pokemon moment... I feel like I’m crazy for not being happy with it.

So at the very least though, would good visuals, sound and animation ruin that in anyway? Even at the most basic of levels? Just cannot understand how they seemingly get a free pass, where if it was any other title there would be a petition by now for them to fix it. And my apologies if I sound like I’m descrediting peoples happiness, I guess I’m legitimately etly trying to understand.

It just baffles me with the amount of money the Pokemon franchise creates, they cut corners like this and rarely get called out for it. With their budget they should give an option for iconic 8bit sounds or modernized versions.

Thread Sonic the Hedgehog - First Trailer
People love to do this, but a Photoshop paint over is far far different than getting a fully fleshed out rigged character that works for multiple shots, lighting conditions and animation poses. I guarantee there were countless iterations of this Sonic character that resembled more of the classic look, but throughout a production concessions get made and things alter based on certain needs. While the fan-redesign Sonic looks better in this pose in that moment, perhaps for the story they are trying to tell it does not work at all. For example, perhaps they had the skinnier taller legs, but in some shots and motions it did not hold up. Or they tried larger angstier eyes but it didn't allow for emotions in the scenes they set up or lessens the impact when he goes into "angst mode". Or the hands were bigger at one point, but they realized they had to scale them back because they kept getting in the way of the Sonic sex scene. Or through marketing they found that children appeal to different shapes and forms so they skewed it more that way. Not to say this movie wont be garbage, but to say what Sonic "should look like" without being a part of its production is baseless. It looks exactly like it needs to be for the story they want to tell... With all that said though, from what I've seen I'm not a fan of this direction.

Sometimes things don't make the cut and it's nice we can put them back in eventually instead of them being gone for good, but it's never our intention to hold crap back (unless it allows for extra iteration and polish). It doesn't have that HIT feel. Which matters a lot. The impact of having your game launching on PLAYSTATION 5, is much more impactful. I don't feel like they EARNED it enough to be the next game platform, they are getting a bit ahead of themselves. And you can't play the Cocky roll where you are comparing yourself to others stating, "WE ARE LIKE A PS4 AND AN XBOX COMBINED" until you have earned that respect. I can't think of another game where I can remember so many of its characters and have such a fondness for them or a passionate hatred for their motives. Maybe next-gen AI will be able to see through shelves. What are you talking about... haha. It's way more impressive for an AI system to have cognizance to gauge from her own perspective the space Ellie is at and have self awareness, than to just track a character that passes behind something.

Thread Graphical Improvements: Why aren't realistic physics given as much importance as others? (Next Gen Wishlists)
Because the amount of resources a proper physic system uses is just way over budget for what actual players notice. It's better to invest more time in the character physics, animations and environments than it is to have a fancy cardboard box breaking. Also, with the higher fidelity of characters this generation, keeping them on the floor is insanely expensive. We already have to lower Environmental art significantly if there are more then 2 characters on screen at one time. Plus, having things rely on physics is super inconsistent, hard to test and allows for too many variables that can affect things negatively. Better to use that time testing more critical bugs. There are exceptions to this, but usually they are budgeting that stuff as part of the initial discussions for what is important with their game or designing stuff around that. (We all desperately want it on the development side as well)Yea, basically this.

? This is all I want! But my last hope was Gen 8 taking this turn, I always assumed Handhelds were holding them back. I guess I was naive because this is literally just the hand-held title on a Switch. Such a bummer! Pokemon are SO recognizable and it opens up so many possibilities for a large expansive game. All I want is a 3rd person perspective where you are controlling your character and actually throwing out your ball in real-time to send out your Poke. This is what I was hoping when I was a kid playing Pokemon Red on my gameboy. I would have NEVER imagined that the game would play the exact same way and even use the same sound effects 14 years from then. It blows my mind. Just imaging if Mario was still only 2D and Zelda was still only a Top Down game makes me feel weird. At this point the mainline Pokemon titles should be this huge epic RPG style experience and this classic type of pokemon game is just a side game that they release once in a while (similiar to 2d marios and top-down Zelda's).

Yea I guess so, I believe Pokemon Sun and Moon had about 14 million sales. Which is absolutely great, especially at their budget. But Pokemon Go was downloaded over 500 million times. I think the audience for Pokemon way out weights the audience of the main-line titles. I think there is a market for a huge new Pokemon title... But I guess they are the ones making tons of money and I'm not, so I should shut up. Haha. You are absolutely right. But why is that type of mentality rewarded here? Any other publisher or developer that has this same mind-set, "It's making money I'm not changing" gets absolutely torn apart in the game communities, why does this get a free pass for that? But the sheer scale and scope of Horizon's creature design and rigging is a sight to behold, one of the greatest achievements in game visuals. Things I wish KH3 did differently: (Mild spoilers) - Save aqua much earlier and she becomes more of a part of the overall story - Incorporate the Final Fantasy characters - Cut down some of the Disney worlds so they aren't so drawn out and use that to add a couple more SURPRISE areas/worlds - Give the game a big middle part that leads into the Second Act; kill off Sora. - Play the second act of the game as Kairi WITH Donald and Goofy, finally reuniting with Sora at the end for one epic duo fight. - Incorporate the story more into the Disney worlds. (combat/gameplay is a different list) But that would help make this game much more worth it in my mind. Doubt that could be something added/improved in a Final Mix version, but they could possibly get it somewhat closer.

Thread Why does BotW struggle with rocky surfaces graphically speaking?
So I’m not too familiar with how BotW is built, but from the looks of it they are not using an overall macro normal map, which would be sculpted per rock and section that gives the overall rock its shape. Instead they are using micro normal details (so a tiling bumpy rock surface) that tiles across the entire rock wall area. And because of the way the game functions and works, they are basically using designer geo (very simple shapes that the player interacts with 1:1), where a lot of modern titles would create a tile set of fully sculpted rocks with Macro and Micro normals/materials, that they then would be the wall out of modularly. But since the climb surface has to be pretty specific you cannot rely on that density of surfaces that may obstruct the player path and be very difficult to test. There are ways around making a set locked off climable wall that then you could use a set of to make more detailed climable sections that have a higher fidelity, but they didn’t seem it important to priotize it, which makes sense.

It's my only complaint at the moment, but just all these random abilities you get have absolutely no bearing or context in the overall world or pacing of the game. Why can I summon Disneyland rides? Did I miss one of the games that allowed this? I'm just given Keyblades randomly and they have magical powers that change them? It seems so superfluous and random at times. Tim Rogers is a great guy and a great writer, but I feel like he falls back on "The voice" as a way to more comfortably give his opinions, but it makes it super difficult to tell how he actually feels... He's done serious videos before about game reviews, but still using that voice. It was super hard to wrap my head around what he's getting at, haha. With that said, this video is pretty great... but its fucking bullshit he said Sora is 15 years old, he's fucking 16.

They definitely have some INSANE blood tech that they love showing off, it's very impressive. I wonder how they achieved it.

Thread Jump Force Open Beta Impressions
Was only able to play it briefly, but from my experience the controls seemed pretty experimental in a way? And there was so much flashiness for such little input, it was like I was engaging in a 10 second cutscene with every button pressed. It was very hard to tell what was going on, but maybe with time it becomes deeper? I don't remember too much else, but I just remember being blown away how much I did not enjoy it. Curious to hear others opinions.

I played this at E3 and absolutely hated it, hopefully it is nice and improved now. Still interested in its development! Some cool looking things going on, but playing it is not fun.

Thread Ronda Rousey in Mortal Kombat 11 is a disappointing and problematic decision by NRS
Not trying to push aside what she said, but is there a source where she corroborates the Sandy Hook comments today? I know six years ago when that tragedy happened a lot of people were looking into conspiracy theories to help explain such a tragedy, it was comforting to feel it was maybe all a lie. It's a disgusting view point to have though, but I know some good people that went down that rabbit hole just because they were scared. (not a fan of hers however)

Hrmm, I've heard that multiple times. Definitely has peaked my interest, thanks for your suggestion (don't mean to derail this thread!). The Hollow Knight art style also looks the most interesting to me, so I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

Damn, I feel like I should play Celeste but I feel capped out of 2D Side Scrollers this year. It's between Hollow Knight, Celeste or Dead Cells. I'll only play one. edit: I'll only play one right NOW, probably get to the others down the line in the future... Also, Yay God of War!

Thread Hot take: Dragon Quest 11 is the perfect template for a 3D Pokemon
Absolutely. Haven't played Dragon Quest XI, but from videos ect. I really hope we get an evolved Pokemon, I'm honestly shocked that they keep reusing the same formula since the Gameboy. They have the money. Full animations and full voice acting should be a standard. This as well... they have the ability and the potential!

Thread MGSV is the best controlling third-person shooter ever made. Nothing comes close.
I feel like an insane person, because I do love all these games and have played a ton of Third Person shooters. But for some reason, Last of Us is my favorite shooter feel. I just don't like shooting things in Gears of War or MGSV, the melee is more satisfying to me. Whereas taking someones head off with a revolver in TLoU feels very rewarding. With that said, I still think moving around and control wise MGSV feels great. (Don't worry I'm a game artist not a combat designer)

I was going to say, that would go against everything the Switch stands for. But I guess a 2DS goes against the entire premise of a 3DS, so I can't put it past them.

They aren't drawings they are full high-poly Zbrush sculpts. Which is even more insane. He's a beast. (not a fan of some of the rude takes in here though...)

Yeaaa, I just want a new Orange Box. Even though it'll never be what it could have been... I'll still take it. Also just forcing Valve to get back into the game-space would be so nice, I love their offices.

I'm totally down for Steam to lose some Steam, competition is good and I feel Valve was getting pretty complacent. Perhaps Valve needs some EXCLUSIVE titles of their own... to better... their... platform...?

He's honestly the best character artist in the industry. And the speed in which he can do things is honestly insane, I've sat and watched him model a flawless torso out of clay in minutes.

Thread The Order averaged 8 hours to complete the campaign, so let’s stop the harmful “3 to 5 hour” narrative that hurt this gorgeous game
It's unfortunate cause there was a lot of great plans for the sequel, just getting the engine together and working was a huge under-taking. And I felt for building a Third-Person shooter from scratch it handled pretty well.

This is actually genius. Start some type of Used Game Rental service, probably would be a strain on their infrastructure though. But I think they kind of have this already in a way? Can't you return any used game within a week if you don't enjoy it?

Yea agreed with this. It's a beautiful send off. Hopefully the next one is a ways off and tries something completely different, just keep porting Ultimate over to whatever devices they create as well just to have that there for people that want that.

Gotta say I'm not a huge fan of the EZA reviews, the content is great, Jones is great, but I feel like the biggest strength of EZA is their personalities and knowing the guys there. I wish they did a companion piece to every "review style" video, which was the Reviewer, Editor and Jones sitting down and discussing about the game in a bit more detail. I think it'd also be a cheap-easy way to get more content for their Patreon. Cannot wait for their studio soon! And I just met Jones again recently, I keep running into these guys. They are always wonderful.

Thread Kotaku: "Overwatch Players Want Blizzard To Rework Mercy, But Can't Agree On How"
What about swapping Mercy's Ult back to Rez and then make her secondary ability a temporary Valkyrie mode that adds increased healing/damage output. Similiar to what they did with Torb (making his Ult a smaller ability version). It'd increase her HPS and movement capability and then give the glory of her ultimate Rez (with a slower percent gain) more oomph.Yea I like this. Although not the Ult because I would just be annoyed to be rezzed by Mercy then haha.

Thread Rockstar's Game Design is Outdated - NakeyJakey
Man this guys videos are great, really well done and thought out. I'd honestly like to debate/discuss this topic for hours since it's pretty fascinating of a topic that can honestly get deeper and deeper to the point of, "What even is fun". I think the fatal flaw of this video however is him comparing the game to Fall Out: New Vegas and almost accidentally stating that Fall Out does "Role Playing" a lot better than Red Dead. Which would make sense, due to the fact that Red Dead never qualifies itself as a Role-Playing game. And I think that is a pretty big distinction. I'm almost at the thought that Rockstar has crammed SO many things into their titles that they are now at "RPG" esque proportions and feel bare bones in that regard, when in reality they never were trying to BE a RPG in the first place. Their next title will definitely be the one to pave the way to what exactly they are wanting out of their game titles. I'm over the moon in love with RDR2, but I do agree with a lot of the complaints about overly linearity in an open world immersive title, but at certain points you have to excuse a lot of those issues due to the scope and detail they put into everything.I love when things become your "thing" and then you are stuck doing it for the rest of time, haha. It's so simple yet brilliant.
