Oh yeah. I totally forgot to ask where I should spend the EX tokens from the event. I'm leaning towards Zack or Layle (or Noct, if he's any good. I just like him as a character). Thanks as well! I've been reading the infographics, and I'm kind of surprised Cecil isn't a tank, seeing how dude originated the Cover mechanic. I also tried out some friend Vaynes, and he seems good, but I need more than 3 turns with him to learn how he works optimally.

I got pretty much nothing from the free pull, but I did score Vayne's EX after another 15 or so tickets. This makes my (short) list of EX characters this: Cloud (EX+ 3/3) Penelo (EX+ 3/3) Squall (EX+ 1/3) Lightning (EX 3/3) Edge (EX 0/3) Aeris (EX 2/3) Tifa (EX 0/3) Cid (EX 0/3) Edgar (EX 0/3) Cait Sith (EX 0/3) Vayne (EX 0/3) Armor and skill-wise, that's roughly the order I have from being closest to max, as well. Any thoughts for who I should be building next?

There's a point in Dissidia Opera Omnia where Zack, Tidus, and Seifer have a squats contest. They don't tell you who wins but do kind of imply it's Zack (dude does like a thousand squats in Crisis Core). I would guess Tidus comes in second because he's a pro athlete who swims, and Seifer is just kind of a jerk who doesn't like to lose, so he doesn't come off as particularly fit compared to the other guys. But who's the fittest? Zack? Tidus? Vaan with his insane abs? Gladiolus with his also crazy physique? Tifa? And what if we also include the (humanoid) bad guys, too? Is Sephiroth jacked from Mako power? What do you think?

Thanks, man! If you want to revamp the Google Doc, I noted all the active players as I went along, so it'd be really easy to update if others don't mind. As for the friend units, I'm currently at that awkward point where content up through level 100 is too easy, but Cosmos is still too hard. I've compared my guys to friend units who are stronger, and it's really seemingly the summon boards that I need to do to get off this plateau, so at the moment it doesn't really matter which friends I bring right now. I just have to grind out summon mats and armor tokens before I can move forward.

Thread Are franchises relying way too much on expanded universe stories to explain things?
Yeah, I think it's fine if the side content stays on the side, so those who want to dive deeper can, while the main narrative is self-contained. Knowing the extra stuff can then pay off with, like, Easter eggs and B/C-plot threads. I actually think Harry Potter and Star Wars handle this pretty well. You don't have to know any of the extra stuff to get the main story. In Star Wars' case, the side stuff adds to the richness, and in HP, well, it doesn't, but that's okay. Meanwhile, you have things like Kingdom Hearts, where if you go straight from 2 to 3, you know jack shit about what's going on. The argument is that all the in-between games aren't side content, but they sure are labeled as if they are

Thread Game-breaking or overpowered abilities, spells, weapons, etc. in JRPGs
The thing is, Sheriff Star is insanely good in every Wild Arms game, but you always have to beat Ragu O Ragla (ultimate secret boss) to get it. WA4, however, does give you a special seeped best the beginning of the game whose attack power is based on the number of kills it makes--except it also counts any kills you made in Alter Code F, so mine came with like 8000 attack out of the box. For reference, that's something like twice as strong as the otherwise best weapons. Alundra also has a special sword that's twice as strong as the ultimate sword in the game that you can get anytime. All you have to do is die 50 times, and the game will "reward" you with it. It's also the only way to get it, so it's like they're giving you Easy Mode because you suck.

I also speak Mandarin, so I could go back a few thousand years and still be able to communicate with Chinese people, no problem. English, though, is kind of unique because it's an amalgamation of the languages on all the people who invaded the British Isles over the centuries. I think, moving forward, though, that its syntax probably won't change so much that it becomes incomprehensible to us, but I'm sure future people will be using different words to refer to things, and it would take at least a few days to figure out what they're talking about.

Thread English 500 years in the future?
Yeah, but this is assuming a several-hundred year jump without any interim. There will continually be new media, and linguistic evolution will happen incrementally. So, like, the media from say 50 years in the future will probably still be around 100 years from now, and the language from then will still be close to what we have now compared to then-modern vernacular. Then, 50 years after that, it'll be like that again, and then again, and so on.

I think the biggest issue with minions is that most action games don't really give you tools to fight multiple opponents at once. Like, for example, that one Valkyrie in God of War that summons minions is a pain in the ass because you can't lock onto her without her stupid bros hitting you from out of nowhere. Don't lock on, though, and she'll fly out of your sight and then get you with projectiles from off-screen. Meanwhile, in games like Arkham Knight, it's no problem because you're equipped to handle multiple attackers at once.Yeah, this sucks so much. Viewpoint. I had to use an invincibility cheat to do it, though. For comparison, at my age when I beat that, I was able to get through 1942 and Metal Slug 2 on a single quarter. And I couldn't even beat the first level of Viewpoint. Similar to that, Abadox. It takes second because, while I also needed to cheat, I could at least best a few levels before I had to.

I've also been told that we're in a normal market right now, which means houses are going to sell for roughly their market value. Unfortunately, market value is going to just keep going up because it's determined by comps (or seemingly just flat out guessing if you're Zillow).

I agree, especially regarding red parry, which is only possible because 3S doesn't have absolute guard (so if you let go of block in the middle of a block string, you stop blocking). That said, red parries are super hard to pull off, even for the very best players. In terms of accessibility for new players, I think Tekken actually has the best approach--where your default state is blocking.

Thread Why has society decided that speeding is still socially acceptable?
I find that of people are magnificently bad at driving. I know that getting a license is much harder in Europe than it is here, though, but nonetheless, bad drivers showing up and basically being obstacles is a thing, too, and I really wouldn't consider them a failure of the municipality (maybe a failure of the state to grant them a license, at best). In regards to speed limits, though, I personally think they would be far more effective as maximum minimum limits—where the ideal would be that everyone just drives at the speed, period—as opposed to being maximums only. I think people going far under the limit are just as dangerous as people who speed.

Thread Why has society decided that speeding is still socially acceptable?
Well, for one thing, the vehicle becomes harder to control at higher speeds, and it takes longer to stop. So, like, if you're in that type of situation and something unexpected happens—like an animal or child runs out onto the street or something, or maybe there's some debris on the highway—it becomes much harder to avoid an accident, and the damage from that accident will be much higher.I get what you're saying, but I wanted to contend with you the point that race driving takes an incredible amount of athleticism and focus, and it should be considered as much a sport as, say, track & field.

I picked up Sekiro because I heard its combat is similar to Fallen Order, and in the half hour or so that I've played so far, it is, and I like it. But one thing I don't like? Using R1 for sword attacks. It just doesn't feel right. I know there are lots of good games that map primary actions to the shoulder buttons, like MGS4 and God of War, and I can even understand the reasoning for it--so you can free up your thumb to control the camera--but it's just not for me. I switched God of War to classic controls immediately, and the game felt soooo much better. So my answer to my own question is no, I don't like this control scheme. Do you? If so, did you previously prefer using the face buttons and then come around to this? As an aside, I'm perfectly content to use the shoulder buttons to fire guns and projectiles and stuff. But for melee, I strongly prefer the face buttons.

I don't even mean for myself, really, as I tend to mostly agree with the consensus, but I see people getting banned or warned or dog-piled enough that I think I have an understanding of what I can and can't say here, and I think a lot of other posters do too. So, while a lot of posters aren't getting banned, per se, they may also be repressing what they actually want to say, and this leads to bland discussion. And while we're here, my personal pet peeve is OT threads. I think the mods are too aggressive in stifling offshoot topics when they close threads and say shit like, "there's an OT for this." I don't really want to search through a 400-page tome for information all the time, and starting a discussion is even worse because you have to navigate around all the other discussions going on concurrently.

I think my chief complaint with the game is that every attack you can do, except the basic light combo, takes meter. So until you get a bunch of Force upgrades, you're pretty stuck with parry/block and then punishing with light attacks. I felt like I was being punished for filling out the lightsaber tree first. I do appreciate that the heavy attacks and later moves are really strong, but then being slow taking meter made me avoid using them for most of the game. You're pretty close to the end. It's a saber throw, so try to get three enemies gathered near each other and throw. The enemies on Dathomir are pretty aggressive and plentiful. To kick, you first need the skill that allows you to kick. Then to actually do it, you have to do a precision dodge (dodge right an attack is about to hit you) and then press light attack. I've found the timing window is actually more lenient than the one that slows the enemy and gives you meter back, so you don't necessarily have to trigger that to kick.

Once upon a time, I had a manager who was the CEO of the company. He gave me zero direction, and ultimately I resented him for it because he'd just point out whenever I fucked up. Otherwise, what is the point of getting who he believes is the chosen one of his intent is for the guy to just live out his boring farm life and not get involved with the war at all? As for hanging out around Tatooine, it's actually a good hiding place for a few reasons: 1. Vader already knows there are Skywalkers there, but they are unimportant ones, so their kids likely would be too. Remember that Vader doesn't know he has kids at all. 2. Because of the above, there's little reason to think Obi-wan would be there. 3. Vader hates going back there anyway because of his childhood as a slave. 4. Sandstorms fuck up imperial comms. So, I've been noticing that a lot of bank employees that I meet--aside from tellers--are titled some sort of Vice President. You can use scrum to queue up and protect their workloads in each sprint. Every planning, you can reprioritize things. You can use something like kanban and just track how many tasks your department can finish to get a predictable flow.I think the idea is for the ticket writer to conceptualize his asks as a user. The format just helps with that, but I personally think it flies in the face of agile philosophy to force people to use that format.

It's subtle but prevalent. You can see it whenever someone brings up the Oppression Olympics in threads that talk about discrimination against Asians. The implication, of course, is that Asians had/have it easy compared to other minorities and should stfu and not complain. The other side of that coin, though, is that we are also used as a cudgel to smack down other minorities via the "model minority" nonsense. All of this kind of leaves us in this weird limbo where we are considered neither white nor minority, and so no one cares about our interests.Do you? This is very much an example of what I'm talking about above, where everyone takes a position that screws us for their own convenience.

It's not directly about CompStat, but Malcolm Gladwell's new book, , touches upon some early CompStat-like work that actually did work to decrease crime but ended up getting perverted by police forces that later implemented it without really understanding it, which led to the death of Sandra Bland. The gist was that interested policing was indeed effective but needed to be targeted at small, high crime areas. Disregarding that second part, police just ended up increasing its presence across the board (with good but misguided intent), and that just made things worse for everyone.

I didn't use it myself because I'm a power leveler and never had trouble with anything except Lapis, but a friend of mine walked through all the regular bosses easily with it despite never really taking time to level up. Stacking pots, though, you can easily get into the 5-figure damage range.

I'm exempt, so no OT for me. I used to sign off on the times for hourly employees. In CA, it's the following: OT applies for: 1. Any hours worked in excess of 40 in any week, OR 2. Any hours worked in excess of 8 in any day, OR 3. Any hours worked on the seventh consecutive day That last one is tricky because the "week" is defined by the employer. So, for example, if the employer sets the week from Sunday to Saturday (which is super common), and you work from the first Monday to the second Saturday, OT won't apply to any of those days because the second week starts on Sunday.

I think they control it. Vader extends his all slow because he gives zero fucks, and it's super intimidating. Evidence is when old Ben Kenobi can't control the Force so well anymore, so his lightsaber goes to "low battery" mode in his last fight.

Remy from SF3. His keepaway gimmick is fun, and he a high-skill charge character whose skill ceiling isn't bonkers like Urien's. Remy's problem is that he's in the wrong game. His shit-up-the-screen-with-projectiles game would be awesome in a game without parries. Second place, Mega Man from MvC2. Similar concept but easier execution. Turns out he actually matches well against Magneto, too, which is nice.

To be fair, there are too many things in this game that are way too good. I used Welcome Company for a while, too, but by the time I was where you are, I used 8-bit Fireball for everything (the sword being just for candles, really). And prior to that, I used Flame Cannon. Eventually I replaced Welcome Company with Throw Spear, which looks like it sucks but is actually amazing. And then Summon Hellhound, which is nuts, too. Teps Oceus is best for flying/annoying enemies. By the time I finally got Rhava Velar, well, I already had 8-bit Fireball.

Worse. It: - killed off the mother via narration - undid a relationship built up over five seasons or so -- the final season of which focused solely on that pair's wedding - made the protagonist pine again for a character most of the series spent having him get over - undid about seven years of character growth and development And it did all that in a 10 minute narrated epilogue.

Thread Loyalty of the younger generation in the workforce
That's funny. I was just talking about this with my colleagues today. I think everyone has encountered and hates the careerist who rolls through, makes shortsighted decisions, takes credit for temporary wins, and then leaves and fucks over everyone still there. But at the same time, there really isn't a faster way to move up than to hop, and that same asshole will move up a lot faster than anyone who stays loyal. It also gets kind of weird when you get to an "endgame" company in your industry because then the strategy kind of breaks down, and that's when you start to see people who've been there for a long time. At EA, we actually get a lot of "boomerang" employees who leave and then come back with the express purpose of career advancement.Having worked at both types of places, I'll tell you it's actually the opposite for me. Small companies are great at leveraging your closeness to have to take on more responsibility (without pay increase) or understand when you're not getting a raise. But at big companies, your relationship is clear: perform well to get compensated well, and that's that. Big companies also have a lot more money to "waste" on things like employee well being and development.
