From the games i’ve played this year, my personal number one is Death Stranding (currently on chapter 10) after nearly 150 hrs. Its astonishingly good. Size and scale is simply unmatched with the most amazingly realistic rock formations on the ground ever. Its VERY uncanny! Notable mentions are COD. Next gen COD will be staggering! Division 2. Though didn't quite have the same impact the original had. Days Gone. Consistently lovely across the board. F1 2019. I only played the demo so far but I have the full game here still shrinkwrapped. A Plagues Tale. Some terrific work all around. What I didn’t play. Metro. Hated first 2, though latest looked much more interesting but the bugs I’d read about put me off, and still does to this day, though I nearly bought a few months ago when was £15 on PSN. Control. Looks terrific, sounds terrific, just never got around to playing it as was already playing other things. Even now I don’t think I’ll have enough time to play before the big boys hit in 2020.

So yeah, i suspect PD have added the basics in all regards as a test bed, with PS5 allowing them to fully realise their ambition. I've had literally 5 mins go on this...I wasn't going to grab it but ...well. In the 5 mins I played...It was enough to convince me of a purchase 110%. On PS4 Pro, 4K TV the image is really really clean and sharp! Super impressive whatever technique they're using! I noticed the pop in people mentioned but IMO its no worse than every other openworld title apart from RDR2 but this is showing vastly more detail *EDIT (than any other openworld title apart from RDR2). Really is insignificant...Gunplay is really nice...controls well. LOL I know "You sure was only 5 mins?!" Yes, yes it was...Excited for release!

ANY game can be 4k native...ANY...When will people realise this. RDR2 being 4k native on X is a technical marvel...The compromises to natively hit this figure are incredibly well hidden. I’m never happy 8). I worked on a lot of GBA/3DS/DS titles down the years due to my tracker experience on the Amiga. Favourites? Sega & Sonic All Star Racing on DS, Hydraventure on Wii, Fluidity Spin Cycle on 3DS. Duel Masters 3 on GBA. More recent “big music” I’ve written new music for Prison Architect Escape Mode on console, did a version of Elmer Bernsteins Great Escape theme for Escape Modes launch trailer, but currently working on what I believe to be my best ever work on a number of projects!

Very well deserved! I'm on chapter 6 now, and have been playing a few hrs a day since release. This alongside GOW, Odyssey and Spiderman could all win GOTY awards. Facial tech inc lip sync I find lacking, against some other open world titles the facial wuality and detail isn't as good, but the most immediete things that stick out are the insane draw distances coupled with the best LOD system i've ever seen, the lighting model which astounds, especially in towns at night, and just the attention to detail, how weathered and worn everything looks...like everythings been there for years...not something thats been dropped in by artists. Sensational stuff.

I always take my time with games tbh, more so with open world games, and this is no different. I'm only 16% story completion but 33% overall. The world created is just far too good to whizz through. Like someone mentioned above, R* titles are once in a blue moon entities, and no one does these worlds better than R* IMO. Extraordinary game, really is.

RDR2 is astounding. The only area i think its lacking a bit, compared to the epicness of everything else, is character faces/lip sync. Its still very good, but IMO it falls just short of all other visual aspects. I've had a number of wow moments this gen, mostly Sony 1st party titles it must be said and this ranks up there with them. I don't have one I can say is "tops", but I can give you 10 that equally impress the hell out of me. R* raised the bar for open world visuals on a technical level. Amazing.
