Thread With PS5/XSX coming out this fall, is a newer OLED tv a good investment?
This , which gets amplified when your OLED suffers from burn-in and you decide to switch to a non-OLED even though you know you are getting an inferior experience :( .. Never OLEDs are better at handling burn ins though.

Thread (Rumor): according to the Twitter user Sabi, Fable, Perfect Dark and Halo were planned "to all launch within the first year of XSX"
Looking at the studios MS has its not impossible for 4 FP titles dropping in a year. Infact looking at the studio count 15 .. I am going to say we are probably going to see at an average 4 first party titles dropping every year and still not have team really push production times but I dont think the first year of the console is going to see that kind of release schedule especially with the covid situation.

No. I dont work for MS. Just a big Fable fanboy :)Just a feeling. I have no idea of what the release schedule looks but it makes sense that any AAA game that started production within the last 2 years comes out only after 2021.

True but MS said cross gen 1st party will be a thing for 1-2 years and i am going to say its going to be closer to 1 than 2. Another thing to note is most games that come out the first year or 2 are almost always games that started as last gen games or are made conservatively because majority of it was developed before the hardware was finalized. These would probably not be impacted as much from SSD usage as one would expect but yeah I would have preferred if not all games coming out the first year or 2 were cross gen.

Before we threadmark anything there needs to be a giant * next to it .. We really dont know what the hardware is like at all. Again that teraflop number by itself means almost nothing. Tells us almost nothing other than the fact that it will be cheaper.

I mean i understand people's concerns but without complete specs its really hard to say what impact this will have. One would think MS has thought this over before sinking billions into the generation :)

Same CPU, SSD and less powerful GPU wouldnt "limit" game design and wouldnt be hard to optimize. PC devs are used to this and the MS dev tools are being made to build scaleable games.

Thread Observation: some Apple Arcade exclusives are starting to appear on other platforms
From what i understand most deals allow you to release on other platforms day one if you want. It cannot be part of another subscription service. But again every deal is different.

Really looking forward to the audio improvements too but the Series X has dedicated audio hardware too and even if it didnt the audio processing is handled by the CPU not the GPU. Time to finally get an atmos compatible sound system :)

You can do all of this with a XSX SSD too. The XSX Velocity architecture is built to do exactly this. You use the higher throughput Ram combined with the SSD speeds you can stream a lot. Raw numbers matter obviously but again it depends on a lot on the overall architecture of not only the machine but also the game engines.

Absolutely they have a very different architecture compared to what MS is doing but MS is also doing a lot with its velocity framework and their SSD-Memory usage. Ultimately we will know what these machines are capable off only once we see the devs dig really deep. The good thing is with SSDs being standard on both consoles we are going to see some incredible games.

I dont know about "MASSIVELY" . These are complex SOCs. Raw numbers definitely reflect advantages but how they actually turn out practically is what matters. Loading time of 5 seconds is better than loading time of 10 seconds but they are not going to be very noticeable but loading time of 2 minutes is definitely going to be more noticeable than a loading time of a minute.

Thread Xbox Series X: A Closer Look at the Technology Powering the Next Generation
The magical part is the software by the way of the Velocity architecture. People expecting them to put some kinda innovative, high end storage solution were always going to be disappointed. I think those days are long over for home consoles.

Thread Era, help me find the best 4K TV
Basically i want a bigger screen size without spending a fortune :). Also i have some burn in on my B6 which kinda makes me question getting another OLED even though i know this is not super common. I feel Vizio's top of the line PX series is pretty awesome for how much you are paying for it. Just waiting to hear about what HDMI 2.1 features are going to be on the new Vizios. I am interested in TCL primarily because of their mini-LED Vidrian tech. Looks like everybody who saw it at CES this year were super impressed. If its the right price I might jump on that 8K train earlier than expected.

Thread Google Stadia Is the Best of PC and the Best of Console, Says Developer
"Power isnt relevant anymore" .. This isnt true from what i understand. From what I gather you pay for the resources you use. So if a dev wants unlimited resources they are paying for it. I would love to see how Google is pricing the cpu and gpu time.

There is some noticeable lag for me on console streaming but I would definitely use it for single player games. Playing Outer Worlds at work while waiting for a build to kick in is a great experience. Now to wait for 5G to become prevalent.

You dont have to be on the same network, which is why your upload speeds matter a lot. Yeah when i am home the experience is far better than the companion app for sure. Considering this is still in testing I also expect the experience to get better eventually.

This is false. It hasnt historically played bad. Its a pure cover shooter. You are not running and gunning like other games and it controls that way. Its also not bad game design. Its game design. Lots of people dont like it and its fair. Its definitely not for everyone.
