Thread [BUSINESS INSIDER]Bill Gates says inperson meetings aren't the gold standard anymore and that 50% of business travel will go away even after pandemic.
As someone who used to travel a lot and loved it, i will miss it, but I have to agree. My ability to do my job has not been reduced by working 100% at home. I definitely don’t miss the commute to the office! My work/life balance is way better than before.

Thread The Playstation Classic has reached a point now that it's a greater (and simpler) emubox than the Raspberry Pi 3.
Finally got everything set up and the games play great :) Now i want to make it pretty - so I searched around for some nice XMB dynamic wallpapers... but, nothing? Like 3 samples on github and a couple of dodgy youtube videos. Am i missing something? Is there someplace with a nice collection of background images, or am I going to have to whip out the crayons and make my own? :D

Is it possible to set this up so that retroarch runs off the internal storage, so you don't need to have a USB connected? Having a USB device plugged in all the time kinda ruins the aesthetic :)

This is probably more of a Retroarch question, but I want to set some nice defaults for PSX titles in retroarch as it runs the built in ones way better than the built in emulator. Sadly, i only seem to be able to set some things per game from the quick menu. EG: scanlines, high resolution mode, filtering etc. Is there any way to set this defaults for ALL games and then override them per game if i don't want to use them?

Thread Modded Game Boys are downright gorgeous
oooh - Nice tip! thanks for that :) I wasn't sure whether to stick the screen in place or use the bracket TBH - but for $5 I figured I'd order it and see how I got on. I like the idea of being able to easily remove it if I need to (dust on the display or something) but I don't want it to rattle around...

Thread Modded Game Boys are downright gorgeous
This thread caused me great expense! :D Just received some packages from Handheld Legend and Retro Six: - New light grey shell and some SNES coloured buttons - Funny playing IPSv2 Screen kit and 3D printed mounting bracket - Rechargeable battery and board - New speaker and amp plus pure silence mod - nice soft case to keep it in when done :) And I also had to buy a GBA from eBay to be the donor unit, plus some wire, side cutters, flux resin etc etc.. Will post some updates as I work on it :)

Thread To those well into their professional careers.. Is "follow your passion" one of the worst advice to give a young person?
My passion was video games... It's not crazy to pursue your dreams. I didn't go to University, I taught myself to code and I started making my own games. I've been making games (and now help others make games) for almost 30 years. I would never discourage someone from chasing their dream job. Reality might get in the way, you might have to take a side road or do something else to fund your dream or pay the bills for a while, but don't give up on it - you can do it :) I still love video games. I spend all day working on them and I spend all my free time playing them (well, apart from when I'm building lego :P) - doing it as a job didn't ruin my love for the medium.

Thread Last attempt at fixing my Xbox sign in problems on W10 before I eradicate any traces of this abysmal platform.
Check your registry settings for a key called "Sandbox" which would be in "hklm\software\microsoft\XboxLive" if it exists... Let me know if you don't know how to check this ;) If you have that key - make a note of what it says - then delete it - it should only exist in dev environments and should not exist in the normal retail environment. That being present would explain the message you are seeing. You'll need to reboot after deleting it. I'd be really interested to know what the Sandbox registry key is set to if you do have it. If that doesn't fix it I can help via DM.

Thread Hobby and Indie Game Dev |OT 2020| Discussion, Help and Show-off
You can do it either way - but having overlapping tiles will require twice the data for the map and twice as many tiles to draw (you’ll basically have to have two layers of map that move together). You could also have some sort of meta-tile system that lets you create more complex layered tiles to place into your map... not sure if there are existing tools that support that tho tbh. Given that map data is going to be pretty small, and that drawing tiles is relatively cheap, might just be easier to use two layers :)

Number 2 or 3 are my favourites. Everyone does the outline style ;) I get the concern with getting lost in the background without it but maybe try with the shadow and see how that helps? Having a more desaturated background vs the character art could help too.

Thread SpaceX first rocket launch of NASA astronauts into space set for 05/27 (UP: Launch scrubbed due to weather, will try again on 5/30)
Super excited for this! And it's such a big step, again! After they got dragon docked, then landing sorted, then falcon heavy, now manned flight and hopefully SN4 does a hop next week.... Really feels like space travel is heading in the right direction again :D
