ThreadIs the Series X controller the best ever designed?
Depends what you want. Ergonomically it's fantastic and the d pad is much better than the competitions.
The fact that you can choose battery options is a huge plus too.
But the dual sense has a ton of cool features.
ThreadThe Ultimate Graphics Poll (End of 2020 Edition)
I kind of agree. If you made a "most beautiful game" poll instead it would be more interesting, since there are a ton of indie games that artistically look fantastic.
ThreadCDPRs handling about minorities in Cyberpunk 2077 is a joke
I don't misunderstand the thread? But when people just randomly accuse other users of being racist how the fuck is that okay?
None of that changes the fact that cdpr is a shit company and that they have the full responsibility for the horrible things in their games. This goes all the way back to the cards in Witcher 1.
But it's not racist to have issues with the source material as well.
ThreadCDPRs handling about minorities in Cyberpunk 2077 is a joke
Clearly you lack context. Another user was accused of being racist simply because he said there where issues with the RPG as well and that the author of said RPG was heavily involved in the creative process of the videogame. I objected to that. It's not racist to have issues with pondsmith original game, and at no point was anyone excusing cdpr.
ThreadCDPRs handling about minorities in Cyberpunk 2077 is a joke
The world is very much portrayed as a terrible place. But the way minorities especially trans and Asian minorities are portrayed comes of as transphobic and racist more than anything else. And the GTA style humour hurts any attempt at a deeper message. The main story is a cool futuristic action story without anything meaningful to say.
Dead cells is a fantastic game, but Hades is a masterpiece. The way it manages to deliver the story and marry storytelling and gameplay is beautiful. It's also a gorgeous game and the voice acting is amazing
ThreadIan Walker (Kotaku): Games Made Under Crunch Conditions Don’t Deserve ‘Best Direction’ Awards
This is pretty much what it comes down to. Hell you even have moderators in this very thread excusing this behaviour with "well everyone does it".
Its classic whataboutism yet because its naughty dog its somehow okay.
Your work and work conditions go hand in hand with direction and even if you argue semantics a game with as shit crunch conditions as Naughty dog should never win this award. Especially so when a company that is actually a great example of how to properly treat your employees was also nominated.
Game of the year for Last of us 2, awards for best performance etc is all deserved, but best direction is downright silly. Especially with how much the show was trying to come of as a show all about being inclusive.
ThreadEdge 353 reviews - Assassin' Creed Valhalla, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and more
This thread is embarrassing. Read the reviews. The given grade makes sense in that context.
How we perceive games is different and instead of getting your knickers twisted over a Sony exclusive not getting the score you think it deserves, read the different perspective and engage with that instead of drive by commenting on the score.
Keyboard and mouse for the bow, controller for everything else.
Also yeah people just buy Hades. It's not only SG's best game but in general an absolute masterpiece.
The way the story and gameplay is beautifully knit together truly pushes the roguelite genre to new heights.
Oh and the dialogue's and voice acting are top tier. Well actually everything about this damn game is top tier.
Buy it for Bouldy!
ThreadPlaying through long games on Gamepass seems like a bad idea if you have limited gaming time
Even if you can only play an hour a day and a rpg will take you 3 months to get through, and thus you only get through 4 big games a year, gamepass will still end up being great value.
Especially with the prices on new games we have now.

Its a very odd vote
ThreadNow that they're out and in people's homes, which next-gen console design do you like best?

Its pretty much the opposite of the Wii which looks amazing on images but hideous and cheap in reality.

ThreadAlanah Pearce - can we please talk about Xbox [Post Xbox Games Showcase Thoughts]
This is pretty much what it boils down to. The constant concern trolling etc is so transparent and silly.
Alanah is right on the money. Gamepass is offering an amazing value that allows players, especially those on a budget, to experience a heck of alot more games than if they had to buy every single game they play.
And that is something to be celebrated in this industry.

ThreadLotte Kestner accusing Naughty Dog of plagiarizing her cover of 'True Faith' for the TLOU2 CGI Trailer.
Yes I clearified my comment. It was actually meant to say that your example of a bass player not owning rights to his solo is not as clear cut given the Pink floyd situation.
And thus is a completely different situation than that of Lotte vs ND.
Also there are no words in The Great Gig in the sky. Her performance is pretty much a voice solo, and she was credited on the original album.
ThreadLotte Kestner accusing Naughty Dog of plagiarizing her cover of 'True Faith' for the TLOU2 CGI Trailer.
Its really not as clear cut as you are trying to make it out to be. The posted example of Pink Floyds Great Gig in the Sky pretty much solidifies that.
Some would argue that she was simply used as a instrument, given that there is no written words in that song.
Nevertheless she did end up getting compensated, even though she was credited from the beginning.
Now this is in relation to your example with the bass player, and why I think it does not really work in regards to the situation between Lotte and ND.
Lotte didnt create the original work and was no part of the original work.

You are not wrong about applications being almost 100% white males. Which is why relying on applications is a bad idea if you want a diverse workspace. ThreadThe EDGE 10/10 list - What are your thoughts on it?
Alot of personal emotion goes into grading a game.
Obviously given enough time some grades will seem odd, but at the time the game would of felt like a 10 to the writer.
Animal Crossing being this positive game about togetherness and helping each other, coming out in a time where a virus is driving us apart, will have some influence on grades for some critics.
A grade is, ultimately, how we feel about a game and not some objective scale.

There are enough. I dont need to find them for you. Read the thread.
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
hehe no. Like I said Last of Us is one of the best games I have ever played. ND produces state of the art games. But that doesnt change the fact that the way they go about it in regards to how they use their workers is wrong and bad.
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
Yeah the whole stealing of facebook pictures and lying about a womens hospitilization is quite frankly terrible. And that would probably be enough to believe none of his words if not for Jasons article backing up the underlying issue. It seems Rockstar have changed after Jasons focus on them, and we can only hope ND does the same.
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
Because everyone knows boycotts dont work. I am not talking about boycotts. And you know it. People will shit hard on EA yet play the newest FIfa /COD etc. But ND is some kind of sacred fucking cow, where even the slightest mention of their management being bad leads to a swath of people running to their defense. (And yes The Last of Us is one of the best games I have ever played)
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
Because its fair. He should word it better, but in all this she is calling out his specific use of words, at the same time never engaging the deeper issue. If what he said is not true why not dispute that? Why get hung up on what word is used?
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
I am here saying that him stating the truth, albeit like an asshole, obviously would make them pissed. At the same time people are so busy trying to use his use of words to poof away the idea that the management in ND is trash.
Him being an idiot about how he conveis the message doesnt simply remove any thruth from his statements.
And unsurprisingly this thread has gotten so hung up with trying to discredit him that we are back to my original statement in this thread: If this was Blizzard, Bethesda or EA none of these people would be fishing for ways to make his evil words go away.
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
The only thing I read he called them very talented? Obviously they are not going to be as effective as seasoned devs. It’s not a dig it’s simple facts.
ThreadEx-Naughty Dog animator: "ND's games success is due in large part to Sony's deep pocket funding delays rather than skill alone"
No it doesnt. Anyone who has even the slightest experience with larger corporations knows that the approach of signing a ton of inexperienced contractors leads to extra work, crunch and mistakes.
Obviously one of said inexperienced devs is going to get pissed being called kids, but having inexperienced devs feels like working with kids.
Before this job I worked in a rather high position in car development for one of the biggest aluminum production companies in the world and we created and developed designs for BMW, Porshe, Lamborghini etc. At some point management decided to, instead of treating the experienced workers and devs properly to simply replace them with new hungry talent. These new workers and devs where talented and wanted to prove to the world that they rocked. But experience matters a great deal more than people here seem to think. I was in charge of logistics for our biggest customer BMW, and working with these new developers was like working with kids just coming from school because they had no fucking clue how the business works, and obviously that added mistakes, and work time and crunch for everyone fixing their mistakes.
Thats what I get out of his tweets.

ThreadPolygon: Sony’s PS5 Radio Silence Has Done Wonders For The Next Gen Xbox
This is where I am at as well.
I dont really see Sony's silence doing anything for or against Xbox. If anything it has just made the sony fans more thirsty (which this thread proves).
But Gamepass has really changed the game in the gaming circles I frequent, which consist primarily of PC gamers.
Having the ability to simply go from your xbox to the pc and continue playing combined with the insane value you get from gamepass is a big pro for Xbox.
I dont see anyone who is currently exclusive on the PS4 switching over next gen though. The silence doesnt change that. Especially given the amazing line-up of first party titles Sony have this year.

ThreadCDPR's response over The Witcher 3's lack of diversity rings more hollow after the Netflix series
first of all thanks I will take that as a compliment. Being 35 I rarely get those comments anymore :b
And yes while my daughter is fairly young I recognized the way he looks at Ciri. It’s not of a sexual nature but a caring and protective nature, which rings true for a father and daughter regardless of age.
ThreadCDPR's response over The Witcher 3's lack of diversity rings more hollow after the Netflix series
Is the original creator Slavic? What origin mythology is it build around?
The way you are pissing all over Poland in your posts is quite frankly fucking deplorable.
ThreadCDPR's response over The Witcher 3's lack of diversity rings more hollow after the Netflix series
Wtf? None of the interactions between Geralt and Ciri are of a flirtatious nature. Hell being a dad myself I think they nail the father / daughter relation pretty damn well.
But again what you two describe are opinions. Whenever fun is used in any kind of factual statement it rubs me the wrong way. To some people chess is fun, to others monopoly is. There is nothing remotely factual about what different people perceive as fun.
For me the Artifact randomness presented me with a new tactical puzzle for the next turn. That was more fun to me than getting mana screwed or having a card randomly win you the game. Still that doesnt mean I can say that Artifacts rng is objectively more fun. Its an opinion and as such makes little sense presented as fact.
But thats all about what sells the most. By that logic monopoly is the most fun and by the logic of the video best board game ever designed, simply because a ton of people find it fun? If we end up in a place where we criticize games for not appealing enough to the masses we will soon loose any kind of interesting development in game design. The reason we have a ton of fantastic and deep board games today is because there where designers who dared to challenge what was perceived as "fun" such as roll and move etc.
ThreadGOTYpicks 2019 - Tracking and Discussion Thread
Id argue the writing in Disco Elysium alone is just as genre defining then anything last year had. I am curious which two games from last year you think did anything remarkable that would change the genre they are in.
I dont understand this part of the video. The idea that the rng in Hearthstone or magic is objectively more "fun" is downright silly to me. Surely that is a highly subjective thing. The only objective comment to be made is the one Garfield makes.
Also the idea that he doesnt understand fun makes no sense when he has designed a game like Bunny kingdoms which is a ton of fun, and that is a game he has designed completely on his own.
He also had alot of creative freedom on Keyforge which he designed for Fantasy Flight Games. That game is a massive success and was designed around the same time he designed Artifact, a fact that this video never adresses or even mentions.
There are a bit too many opinions that Nerdslayer tries to twist as facts in this video to be honest.
I never felt Faeria was obtuse. It’s much like a game such as Twilight Struggle. When you first play it it might seem obtuse, but when you dig in you will realize that the complexity makes sense in conjunction with the rest of the design.
faeria is, much like Artifact, a fantastic card game. And both where much cheaper to be competitive in than magic and hearthstone. But for some reason the players got hung up on entry fees and the fact that these where long, complex and non-mobile games meant the hearthstone casual players checked out right away.

yep thankfully you can ignore it. My issues with it is that the writing is very bad, as in makes Pirates of the Caribbean look amazing bad.
And on top of that it just makes the setup more fiddly without adding any real gameplay depth. The mechanics are also completely separated from the theme, which makes the campaign part even less engaging.
But the core game, without the campaign, is great. It is a satisfying puzzle, where you are constantly juggling your cards, movements and ship upgrades to squeeze out the most points.
As a engine building game with multi use cards it works really well.

ThreadIt's 20 years old, but Age of Empires II is still the best RTS on the market today
As much as I love AoE 2 it’s such a weird jack-of-all trades to me. It has the civilization developing thing and feels very much like a super light city builder at times, and then the combat on top of all that. Personally I prefer Rise of Nations for that kind of “mix”. If I want pure tactical combat rts I tend to prefer the company of heroes games.
And if I want city building I prefer the Anno series.
Oh and for those who hate the hyper focus on apm there is Northgaard which is absolutely fantastic.
All that having been said AoE 2 DE is a great game that gives me a nice nostalgic feeling.
the AI in FM is heaps better and also the scouting in FM is in a league of its own, to the point where actual professional managers use it as a tool.
Especially with the improvements in this years version Football manager is a management sim that is unrivaled in quality.
pretty much. Its weird to hear people flaming a dev for not abandoning their failed game. Anthem is quite a bad game but some of the hate and Schadenfreude, on Era, over its failure is weird.
ThreadThe Most Underrated Games Of The Decade - Kotaku
Metacritic of 92 is not underrated at all. Keep in mind it had performance issues.
I love Bloodborne and would rate it a 10/10, but given the issues with performance and the, somewhat, obtuse storytelling I don’t think it’s unfair that it ended up at 92.
The ending in Persona 5. I loved the game and it was easily going to be my game of the year that year, but then the ending came along.
And while that ending was somewhat in line with the rest of the series, it didnt fit the overall theme and message of the rest of the game and completely ruined the depth of the "evil" characters and their motivations. It destroyed the game for me.
ThreadI think we should not expect the PS5 to dominate the market like the PS4 did
absolutely and my predictions earlier are, like everyone else right now, guesswork.
We won’t know how the subscription landscape turns out before all factors are fully in play.
I still think it’s a better move from Microsoft to go for the pc crowd instead of trying to sway the hardcore PlayStation fans.

ThreadIGN announces Game of the Year 2019 nominees (Control, Disco Elysium, Pokemon, RE2, Zelda, etc.)

ThreadI think we should not expect the PS5 to dominate the market like the PS4 did
psNow and ps+ are terrible compared to game pass.
Sony will probably sell more hardware than ms but unless they drastically change their lineup on psNow, MS will own the subscription market.
Also cross saves between pc and Xbox combined with the value of game pass will sell more Xbox consoles then Era in general wants to admit.
I also feel that the developers Microsoft has brought in house lately are, for a large part, PC darlings. It seems instead of trying to gain ground on the console exclusive market, they are targeting the pc players, which might prove a smart move. Personally I am going PC, Xbox and Switch at home next gen.

I had a similar experience with the mafia game SUSD hyped to the high heavens. ThreadI really hate to say it but... Fallout 4 is better than The Outer Worlds
I really enjoyed the choice of freedom in Outer Worlds, but I have a ton of issues with it: the humor didn’t land for me and felt like we where laughing at the people being abused by the companies. The skill system was bland. Apart from Pavarti and Sam the followers just annoyed me. And it was just way to easy, even on hard.
That having been said it’s still better than Fallout 4 imo.
ThreadRiot Games announces League of Legends card game Legends of Runeterra
So I went back to Hearthstone today after extensive Runeterra play this weekend and man its not even close. LoR takes a massive dump all over Hearthstone in every single aspect. The mana system is better, its more balanced already, the turn structure is leagues above, the monetization is much better, spells work more interestingly. There is actual player interaction on each turn!

ThreadUnderlords Open Beta (Steam/Android/iOS) "Big Update" Oct 24ish & v1.0 soon after
Been playing all day. Done with it by now. To much imbalance between heroes and the fact that you get to choose between 3 instead of two if you buy 30 of the new packs is disgusting. And positioning matters abit, but its still almost entirely rng where things hit and that can and will often cost you a match.
Much like Hearthstone is a super simplified version of magic, this is a super simplified auto battler. If you want quick fun without complexity this is very good for that.
If you want a deep auto battler stick to Underlords or TFT.
ThreadHearthstone: Saviors of Uldum |OT| Where are my Dragons?
It can easily be adjusted and its beta. That having been said it is something they need to adress because YES it is an issue if choice of hero can decide as much as it does right now. In TFT and Underlords position matters more and there are more synergies and wiggle room, and you have economy you can use and items. Battlegrounds has far fewer decisions to make and the heroes matter alot more to your wins than underlords do in underlords.
ThreadHearthstone: Saviors of Uldum |OT| Where are my Dragons?
Yeah thats another problem for me. Having to get 30 packs to get the choice.
Having the choice of three instead of two is a huge difference when only two thirds of the heroes are in a good spot as you put it, and putting that choice between either playing a game you dont like or paying up for something that then is worthless to you is just a crummy design.
I still think its a good game btw, there are just some issues they need to address during the beta.
ThreadHearthstone: Saviors of Uldum |OT| Where are my Dragons?
This is good fun. Played two matches, got second place twice.
I really like the pace of the matches. This is a nice, very simple and very fast autobattler. It’s similar enough to give that nice fuzzy warm auto battler feel, while also being different enough to warrant playing alongside one of the other more complex autobattlers.
ThreadJim Ryan on including first party games on PSNOW “It’s an area that is fast changing and fluid” wants to “ treat them with amazing care and respect”
Its neither. Disney+ is delivering the Mandalorian which is likely the most expensive tv show ever. Sony is not delivering things like that day one, but seemingly later down the line.
In any case the gaming landscape is very different from movies and thus needs its own approach. Microsoft’s approach is smart for a company that has catching up to do.
Sony is taking the smart approach given their market position and usual first party sales figures.
Both companies are doing the right thing based on their unique market positions.
As a Dane who grew up learning about “our” mythology I know quite a bit about it.
Two things:
1) The Sylvanas comment was meant as a joke and a slight dig at Blizzard.
2) GoW version of Norse mythology is very far from actual Norse mythology.
Edit: it’s true it’s closer than a lot of other versions but still takes quite a few liberties. (Which is fine)

Man a "wow such luck" emote would be so nice. Just lost a BO3 traditional draft match to the most umost utter cunt I have met since leaving Hearthstone. And then the second match I ended up mana screwed despite keeping 3 mana in hand and having a 18 land deck. Man I wish limited in Arena wasnt so silly.
Well they where going of having tried the combat which was a ton of fun, and with Biowares history of great stories (and Destiny 2 having an utterly shite one) I can see why there was hope. In the end the loot system was a joke, the skill system was flawed, the campaign to short and open ended, not to mention the million upon million of bugs and utterly baffling design decisions, and Anthem sadly ended up being a very bad game. Destiny 2 apart from Forsaken is simply utterly mediocre, which is still vastly better than its competitors sadly.

No the question was stated as F2p system. And in that context is silly to pull in Dota 2. If you look strictly at cosmetics you can actually get the rare drop here and there in dota.
Also with Dota you have to take the steam market into consideration. If you want to compare what you can get for a few cents compared to what things will cost you in Apex, Dota is actually much cheaper.
Comparing the two games as a whole package you get a very different picture then the one you where trying to paint.

ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
Yeah its still to early to tell. Golos seems to be the strongest deck right now. I am running a version with Agents of Treachery instead of the Giants. ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
So what is your most hated card in magic? Mine is Chandra Awakened inferno. It feels epicly bad to loose to because of how stupid the plus 2 abillity is. It makes her incredible hard to kill and gives you a overpowered clock to play against. Either you have an imidiate answer or you just loose the game. Its just a dumb card.
And add in cards like Thorbrand and it becomes even more insane.
But she is far from overpowered with her cost. She just feels bad to loose to.

ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
You are still limited. Afterall there are no three color lands. Also I dont mind shocklands as you have to pay for having more colors. The issue comes when playing more than two colors is simply not worth it because the game is over to quick. Interesting card games are about interaction. The more you limit creativity from players and options in deck construction the less interactive it gets.
Edit: I just want people to not be forced into certain colors. Whether that is going to be the case is obviously to early to tell, I am just abit worried.
ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
But If they restrict mana too much you end up with just play the best mono this pr that with their best cards which is even more limited.
Like I said its to early to judge, but simply being forced Into mono decks isnt fun.
Edit: How are people finding M20 and Eldraine limited so far? I really haven’t played much limited before the rotation but am thoroughly enjoying it right now. Going Ranked draft into Traditional draft into standard and back again, gives a nice change of pace and keeps every game feeling fresh.
ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
I think esper control is dead in this current meta. Which is pretty damn sad to me.
Edit: The issue is I spent all my wildcards on building esper because its pretty much the only deck I enjoy, but wotc nuked it with their idiotic "we need shit mana now" stance, while at the same time making green (vomit) and black have insane tempo.

ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
To clarify I enjoy mono black. But mono green was already strong before rotation and now its even more insane. Even in two Color setups green shines. Gruul, Golgari, Simic are all at the very top.
Ah yes you Can do alot of fun stof with boros, and several very different kind of token decks.
ThreadMagic the Gathering: Arena |OT| Now in Open Beta
I think lands can be interesting if you add mechanics to them, which they have done this time around. Sadly most of the mechanics are shite and the fact that any "not-complete-shit" land is a rare is an issue, especially in a set like Eldraine where lands are kinda bad. I think Netrunner and Mythgard are probably the best implementations of resource systems while Hearthstone is probably the worst given its limiting nature.
That having been said I still think the times where lands are the determining factor of your win/loss is very limited.

This is event has almost completely taken my will to play magic arena away. Loosing on the second game feels horrible and you are more or less forced to grind this to have any chance of completing the battlepass.
Definately not buying the next battlepass, and I have a feeling several players wont. Like the Professor said about the paper brawl packs not including codes for arena, WotC just seem completely unable to make business decisions that make long term sense.

The fans absolutely. And in rivalries yes. But not when the team is vastly inferior.
Obviously a Liverpool vs United match is going to get heated. But if United beat Swindon town fc 13 - 0 you are not going to see any over the top celebrations.
Also even Liverpool United or Tottenham vs Arsenal are quite civilized matches now. It was insane in the 90's but not anymore.
And there is a difference in gloating over a rival and someone not even in the same league. You really have to not have played any kind of sport yourselve to not be able to grasp that.
ThreadThe US Womens' Soccer team and inappropriate celebrations
You refused to read huh? Everyone celebrates and should. But you rarely if ever see European teams celebrate past the 4-0 against lower league teams. The reason I mention denmark is that we would not even be able to beat andorra with multiple digits. And Janteloven is a very ingraned part of our lifestyle. If you are humiliating a clearly inferiour opponent after a win your are going to get your own fans pissed at you.

Did I say it was wrong? I said it’s a difference in sports culture. Which is also why the reaction to it is polar opposite between Americans and the rest of the soccer world.
ThreadThe US Womens' Soccer team and inappropriate celebrations
The only relevant one to the given scenario was Germany destroying Brazil. The Germans chose to not humiliate the other team further, the Americans didn’t. It’s a culture thing.

Oh for fucks sake its right here in the thread. The comparrison with the germans win against brazil. I would love to find examples of danish teams but quite frankly we rarely win so that would be difficult.
I could list every single NFL match where every single touch down is celebrated in the most insane ways.
Yes you will get insane celebrations in euro football all the time, but not once a team is down by more than 4 goals, especially if that team is from the lower leagues.
In Denmark we have the concept of Janteloven. If you are truly interested in the difference go look that up. I think you will find that to be in stark contrast to the "American Dream" way of life.
And to really underline it since its apparently difficult to understand: I love the passion the americans show. Its just weird to see against clearly inferior teams when that is not something we are used to here.
ThreadThe US Womens' Soccer team and inappropriate celebrations
Haha oh dear. I am Danish thank you very much. I am not salty. If you would read my comments I have said several times I thought the tea thing was funny and cool.
And yes I find it weird to be celebrating like mad after even the seventh goal against a team severely under your level.
But that doesnt mean I think it is wrong, but it is very much a thing you see with US athletes, that they celebrate every little victory to the fullest, wheras europeans tend to be more reserved when a team is utterly defeated.
Its simply a difference in culture. Why that pisses some of you of so much is beyond me?

I think the reason British fans are so frustrated by the Tea thing and the general American behavior is that it’s just not something you do in soccer. Usually you celebrate your win, no need for this petty teasing of the other team. And people who do act petty like a Mourinho or a Suarez are widely hated

ThreadDOTA Underlords - Free Open Beta (Steam/Android/iOS)
Yeah the item rng in TFT is so rampant that it completely negates any kind of tactical thinking in that game. That anyone would prefer that over Underlords is beyond me. Then again there are people who genuinly enjoy playing Monopoly so I guess I shouldnt be surprised.

Fate of Nexus is such a dumb card. They should really ban it from Arena. Forcing your opponent to watch you play with yourselv for half an hour until you find your wincon is plain bad design.

Your only Dead in the water by turn two of your a inexperienced player. As someone who has played upwards of 500 games of Race I see this all the time with new players.
Often they will look for combos in the hand and hold on to cards or explore because they think they need to. Race is (much like Lehmanns new game Res Arcana) a game about efficient use of your hand. It’s not about working towards a super engine, but much more about micro engines.
Roll on the other hand is a more forgiving system and almost bloated version, and imo a strictly worse game.
ThreadTeamfight Tactics: New auto-chess mode for League of Legends
Yeah item stacking combined with the insane drop rng is a real problem. The “floaty” unit movement also is an issue because it makes it harder to rearrange your units based on movement pattern.
Also the UI is very bad. It takes to many clicks/mouse overs to get the information needed.
I do love the match times, draft and the fact that battles happen on a shared board.
But I do think Underlords is a straight up better game design.
ThreadDOTA Underlords - Free Open Beta (Steam/Android/iOS)
That very much depends on the comp you are going for. Some comps need you to hit certain level thresholds faster and others need you to have stronger units but fewer levels (ie scrapping inventors)
Especially after the recent balance patch use of economy and positioning matters a ton more and is highly dependent on what comps/items/auras you have.
The depth of this game once you go below the immediate surface is quite impressive.

Yes they are publishing it. I think Tencent will be making it. From what I understand Drodo is not involved in development of the EPIC store one. They simply sold the rights.
ThreadTeamfight Tactics: New auto-chess mode for League of Legends
Definitely this was made from a mobile and then converted. Basically because it’s easier to program that way. Going Pc First and then changing it down to mobile is way harder.
Graphics wise the units have more fidelity in Underlords currently. I expect the graphics to be improved in TFT though, especially unit animations are effing bad in TFT right now.
I definitely agree that TFT will probably win the stream war simply because LoL is so massive. Tournament wise I don’t know. I really don’t watch any Riot tournaments so I couldn’t say.
I think it’s safe to say the big looser will be Epics product though.

That’s not really what you originally said. You said it looks like a mobile game. And that TFT’s UI is cleaner.
Whatever is ugly is highly personal. But saying that the new Underlords UI looks like a mobile game is weird. In fact with the big hero selection pictures and the stocky washed out heroes I would say currently TFT’s pc UI would be more mobile friendly. Are you not thinking of the old Underlords UI?

The melee combat in ES is bad. Hence the critizism. There is nothing bad about the difficulty in FROM games. If the games where unbalanced or unfair you could level that as a critique, but the issue is that they are extremely fair and welltuned to that it is possible to learn and beat the encounters. There are plenty of games that are difficult by being unfair, the From games are different.
Glitches are a flaw. A difficulty setting is not.
There is also the question as to how you go about it. Saying you wish it had a easy mode is fine, starting to claim From has bad intentions or claim their design is bad without an easy mode is simply acting entitled.
Great video by Jim. I couldn’t agree more. If From Soft doesn’t want to add an easy mode they should be allowed not too. It’s their design.

ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
Because noone is saying it would ruin the game for them that there was an easy mode. If From wants to add a easy mode thats great. But they have made it clear that they feel it would fragment their playerbase and is against the artistic design they aim to create with their games.
Its really not that hard to see the difference.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
The problem for me is that these demands pop up every time there is a new From game. It’s clear that for the developer it is important to keep with their intended core design. So much so that they are willing to “leave money on the table” to stay true to their desired artistic choice. Let them do that and vote with your wallet.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
Its pretty fucking rich to call someone having a different opinion than you arrogant simply for having a different opinion. Maybe its arrogant to want developer to create there games to cater to your specifik wishes?
The difficulty is part of what gives the special feeling of souls games. The whole design is built around that feeling. Without that feeling its simply a different game.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
My issue is that people are conflating difficulty with accessibility. FROM games dont require you to have insane twitchy skills (belive me I dont), they are difficult in that they ask you to learn you enemy and climb that mountain by learing and getting better, something everyone can learn. And that idea is baked into the very lore and story telling of the game, which is why simply making the game "easy" would completely change the game and actually ruin its design.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
Because it alters the core design of the game. Its fundamentally a different game with those changes. Its like asking Twilight Struggle to be played with an open hand.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
In the case of FROM games it has nothing to do with gatekeeping. It has everything to do with how difficulty is a core part of the game design. The experience goes hand in hand with the difficulty, something that people litterally cannot understand unless they have played the games.
ThreadDifficulty by Design - What’s the Difference between Sekiro and Crusader Kings?
Yup. People are mixing up difficulty with accessibility. Very much showcased in the thread that compares From games to Paradox games. Paradox games lacked accessibility due to convoluted ui design and lackluster tutorials. Something that they are clearly working on and have gotten better at with their releases after CKII.
From games don’t have this problem. They are fairly straight forward, but difficult.
The difficulty is very much a core part of what makes their designs so good.
Trying to put “pressure” on From to alter their core design for the sake of easier difficulty (not accessibility) is a very bad. It’s akin to the crowd that want diceless combat in war games. It changes the core of the design so much that the experience is altered. Let the developer make the design they want.

You can not account for rng, but you try to play around it. Take a player like Life Coach, the reason he is so good is because he plays every given scenario through his head and tries to determine the most optimal play, based on different outcomes. RNG in games like Artifact is something you try to play around, it is in fact an integral part of each turns tactical puzzle that you as a player have to try to solve. Sometimes you end up with no options, but like you said yourselve both of you where in vulnerable positions. If he had truly outplayed you he wouldnt loose that match.
If you like card games but dont enjoy this amount of rng i highly suggest you try Twilight Struggle. It is insanely deep and complex and matches are quite long, but is one of the best game designs out there, and especially if you want to play a hand management style game but want as little rng as possible.

I don’t disagree with that. But having the game set in realistic modern times with human enemies can feel more immersion breaking for some than when the setting is high fantasy. And it’s not wrong of them to feel that way. As much as there is nothing wrong with having no issue with these things.
ThreadSo far, The Division 2's free roam exploration is on another level
True enough but I still think people need to be more specific. It’s the same if people just call Anthem an rpg. People are bound to get disappointed by the lack of stat screen etc
ThreadSo far, The Division 2's free roam exploration is on another level
An rpg is as much about story and immersion. The division really doesn’t feel like an immersive role playing experience. It’s a loot shooter. Nothing more and nothing less. And in a game where everything is about loot it’s fine, like you said, that shit doesn’t make sense. The issue arises when people start trying to sell division as an rpg.
Depends what you are after. The combat in Anthem uses skills much more fluid and interesting than Destiny. Destiny is an excellent shooter but Anthems combat is a different kind of fun.
The main problem with Anthems combat is the enemy ai. Other than that it’s very good. And while the shooting isn’t as good as Destiny the guns still have a nice weight to them.

What people are praising is how fast Bioware are reacting and working on fixes. That is quite impressive. Especially compared to the competition in this genre.
So my review is online now:
We chose to postpone it to play the game after the day one patch.
To sum it up I think the game has a huge potential. I really liked the storytelling and the characters, apart from the main villain. I even somewhat liked Geeson.
The after credit scene actually hyped me up for future content, and the core combat is fantastic and in my opinion the most fun in the genre.
All that having been said the game simply has way to many issues right now. The loot is fundamentally broken, the story is too short and the endgame has zero variance. On top of all that we encountered numerous bugs even after day one and several more patches.

He is spot on about the possibilities for customization though. Destiny has almost zero customization. You are very much locked to a skill build and exotics are hardly a build but more of a which exact weapon is best atm.

Damn I hate how weak assassins are. Even with a full lineup of six they barely do any damage once you meet a full warrior or knight lineup. Something needs tuning
And yet the next DLC, albeit small, fir D2 was very bad again.
BioWare are absolutely not excused. It’s baffling how they have learned nothing from their competitors.
My original point was that I doubt it will ever become truly great, just like D2 that only has Forsaken going for it. And that was for a big part made in cooperation with Vicarious Visions on whom Bungie cannot fall back anymore.
The genre is pretty ripe for the taking to be honest.
The time gating was bad and there was nothing to do for non raiders other than a insane grind. (That got helped by increased drops) which also makes it so weird that BioWare went with that Tomb quest. They should have known from both Destiny and even WoW that time gating/progress hating behind tedious repetitive tasks is bad design.
The mission, lost sector and strike design all boil down to shoot x amount of little dudes and activate thing. Shoot big guy. Loot chest....done
Where Destiny shines is in its raids and gameplay. The mission design is really lacking in variety.
It’s not as bad as Anthem but that’s saying nothing.
I am not so sure. Bungie haven’t even managed to really increase variety above. Activate/protect thing whole bunch of little dudes attack and in the end big dude, so I don’t have faith in BioWare doing it either.
Again its completely fair to critique that it is more hidden than it should be. The tutorial itself is not bad though like I said. And for me personally I was apparently lucky to find it quickly.
Hehe yeah you can definately see a ton of similarities between the games. Even if I think Anthem overall is mechanically better.
You get told several times that you will find game info in the codex. So you open the codex and boom there is a tutorial menu. Like I said its not up in your face but lets not pretend its hidden in some secret cave underneath Fort Tarsis.
I guess I am just still remembering the old days where a Bioware RPG came with a massive handbook you needed to read through. I am used to these things beeing written out from them.
It’s very easy to understand from the tutorial in the menu. Anthem has a ton of issues, but the tutorial is not bad. It’s just not holding the players hands in the way we have gotten used to.
Your not wrong though. That speaks volumes about how dissapointing Anthem is. And I even like quite a few aspects of it. But some of the design decisions are baffling.
The quest are simply there. There is no interesting backstory, despite having the fallout IP. The bugs are still numerous. The combat is atrocious. The game looks like shit, even if you don’t care. In stead of creating a online fallout, they added a bunch of robots as quest machines and called it a day. And even with that insanely barebones design they still managed to have more than the usual Bethesda bugs and jank.
Anthem at least succeeds in some areas. Fallout 76...doesn’t.
ThreadAnthem: Massive Day 1 Patch Detailed; before Feb 22 launch (LIVE on PC, 7GB)
Here in Denmark they simply sent the mail with the info on the day one patch and asked if we wanted to review the game later or not. We decided to push our review one week because I wanted to give our readers the most accurate description of the product they would be spending their hard earned money on.
ThreadMike Ybarra, Corporate VP of Xbox, says critics of an Anthem area are “whining” and it is “embarrassing to review with such a lack of knowledge”
While his comment about streamers is quite funny at best, it is important for any critic to always strive to fully understand the game before writing a critique of it. Refusing to read a in game tutorial is frankly unprofessional.
It very much depends on what you want out of your gameplay. For me, someone who likes tinkering with skills and doing teambased combat where we combo together skills this is much better than both Destiny and Division. The choice to use the guns as a supplement to skills makes it feel very different from Destiny and if EA dont give up on the game early this game has a ton of potential. Obviously if you want a game thats a good shooter with loot just go with Destiny.
To each their own. I HATED everyone in Andromeda. They felt so cliche and tropey to me. While I have quite a few characters I enjoy in Anthem. They feel more natural and human to me, especially the women. Anita's help clearly shows imo.
This is actually one of my biggest issues with Anthem. The fact it doesnt have pvp is, on paper, a good thing in a game where you want players to tinker with skills and go nuts in coop. Destiny's skills and usage of these is severely hampered by having to be tuned to pvp all the time...But if you dont have pvp you really need to offer tons of interesting pve content. Anthem just doesnt have that. I very much enjoy the strongholds, but that is in no way enough when pve is all you offer.
I know people are going to dunk on me for this, but I actually like him. I hated him at first but the more the story progressed he grew on me. Overall his entire ark ended up great imo.
There was zero threat in the email we got. In fact I am happy we got informed so I don’t sound like a complete idiot on the 22 with a review full of issues that might not exist by then.
Yeah I really like the lore in Destiny actually, but the way they convey that story is extremely bad. Its telling that the best story telling in Destiny was made by Vicarious Visions.
Yeah I have a ton of issues with the loading, the overheat while flying to missions and the lack of cosmetic change in loot, but I really enjoy the characters. The cast is so diverse and feel human. While the story premise is kind of bland, the characters and story telling destroys Destiny and Division.
We received a mail todat outlining the content of the day 1 patch. My editor let me decide how we approach this and I decided to hold back our review until March the 1st to have a full week of gameplay with the many fixes in place, in order to give our readers the most accurate picture of what they would be spending their money on.
Sorry but that video is some grade A typical clickbait Youtuber bullshit. If he cannot understand that that article is based on the press event and what Mike Gamble told them about the game he should just quit his channel right now.
THis is Yongyea levels of stupid.
And again that is something they can easily fix. Like I said if this doesnt get fixed asap we have a grave issue, but its something that is easy to fix. I am much more worried about the rubber banding and load screens, since they dont seem to be easy to change.
Absolutely not, but he is saying the article is a lie, which is not the case. He is effectively putting Mike Williamson on the spot here, while its Mike Gamble who is the lier.
If it is not fixed before launch then its unacceptable. But that things like that happen in early access is very much to be expected of games with this amount different mechanisms. Especially since these things often dont appear before the game gets released to a wider audience. But now they know its there and they need to fix it asap.
But it is and it will be in every type of game like this when they first come out. The massive amount of loading is a issue that worries me. But loot rng and spawn issues in early access can easily be fixed and more than likely will be at launch.
I agree. But again gunplay is not all there is to Anthems combat. Anthems combat wants you to use your skills to put together cool combos.
And even though the gunplay is better in Division, if it’s gunplay you want you should play Destiny instead.
The focus in anthem is your skills not shooting.
And playing around with weapon and skill stats is a big part of making your own build in Anthem. Yes a simple stat screen is needed and missing. But that is easily implemented and is coming post launch. (Why it’s not in already is baffling though)

I disagree hard. Guns feel mediocre yes, but the skills is where its at. This is an rpg at its core and not a shooter.
Once you actually start using skills and flying together with your friends you get very satisfying combat. If you treat this game like destiny it will seem bad to you.
And I like that it doesnt explain everything. Let players discover the depth of the sytems themselves.
The way your skills weave together and how flying actually becomes an essential part of your combat is fantastic. This is almost up there with Black Dessert Online in how satisfying the combat system is.
I will give you that enemy AI in Division is better, but thats it. Other than AI division has some of the blandest combat in the business.
Like I said earlier the combat itself feels amazing to me. The ranger feels like Iron man, storm is everything I wanted the warlock in destiny to be and the colossus is like a freaking Space Marine straight out of 40 k. I havent played the interceptor nearly enough so I cannot comment on that, your impressions of it sound like its a worst one of the bunch sadly.
Now outside of the combat itself there are a great deal of issues. Even though my loadingscreens are at most 20 seconds they are simply to numerous, an issue I had with Destiny as well, but at least I could go into my character screen there.
The menu system takes some getting used to aswell and is done better in plenty other games.
Also not beeing able to change loadout on the fly is a massive issue in a loot driven game.
So yes I think Anthem needs a ton of work, but the core gameplay itself feels extremely satisfying to me. And it looks and runs stunning on my rig.
Which is also the case in division 2 from what we have seen in the beta.
But the use of skills and the verticality creates a super fun system where you can do some amazing things.
Anthems use of skills and combos is fantastic.

Yeah having the full synergy and a 3 star batwing and 2 star Troll Warlord was completely insane. there where matches where the warlord would singlehandedly beat 2 - 3 dudes.
ThreadLiam Neeson's real-life rape/revenge tale (See Staff Post)
If you look into the history of Ireland you will find that it was/is one of the worst european countries when it comes to racism.
There has been a sytemic hateful treatment of black people in Ireland for the last 50-60 years.
So I am not that surprised that he might have been poisened by that mindset. What is surprising is that after all these years the thing he seems sorry for is the revenge part, and not the part where he was a racist piece of shit.
This would have been a opportunity for him to condemn his own racist thoughts and the way black people have been treated in Ireland for the past many years, but instead he used it to try to tell some story about not letting your feelings get the best of you.
And I can certainly understand all the black people here who dont want to forgive this mindset. And as for us white people its really not our place to forgive.
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
Yeah that’s what did the big change for me. It’s key to play the economy correctly. You really need to adapt every decision to your current situation while balancing that against what your opponent are doing etc. it’s so insanely deep once you begin to understand.
It’s a very impressive design
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
So i followed advice and went with economy but still spent excess gold after staying on above 50 and keeping at first place in level on rerolling. Went with knights and undead. Got fantastic lineup with 6 knights and enigma, tide and techies at level 2. Still lost to a full warrior setup with no legendaries. He just pumped all his dudes in the corner with a 2* Medusa in the back. Warrior still seems to strong.
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
Yeah. My biggest problem is lategame. it just seems like my dudes just arent on the same * level as the opponents. Ah well, I will try to follow your advice and see how things develop.
Edit: I do want to make it clear that I dont want to sound like I feel I only loose to rng. I realize its something I am doing wrong, I just need to figure out how I transition better into late game I think.
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
This is the issue for me. I dont know when to go for level. I have been told by all the streamers to neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever reroll early. So I am usually having the best econonomy by far. But having a bunch of 1 and 2 star dudes and some legends doesnt help when it seems the other guys have 5 level 3's and all with synergi. I know this is just my mind playing tricks but it didnt feel this difficult to put up a strategy for the first 20 matches or so I played. Now I feel like I am much more subject to rng.
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
Last match I was the highest level by far, and was actually number one for most of the match. Then come round 20 and I have 8 dudes on the map, between 1' and 2 *, but I only face comps of 2 and 3* with max synergy. So despite them being far lower level and only 5 or so I get stomped.
ThreadAnthem Demo Thread (Open: Feb 1st-3rd) - Time To Fly FreelancEra
I wonder how intense this game is on CPU and Ram. Because seeing all these reports of high end GPU's not getting good results really makes me wonder what is the bottleneck here.
LIke I said I have had very good performance all along.
So after playing a ton I have to say I love the combat system. Its much more fun to me than division 1 and even Destiny.
My main issues are with the story content. The voice acting is terrible and the missions in the demo where generic af.
The no raid thing might be a bad thing, or might be a good thing.
In Destiny Raid's are the only endgame I enjoy, since their strikes are garbage and the pvp in destiny was never fun to me, outside of 2 v 2.
If the "strikes" in Anthem are actually of high quality I wont have an issue. Not having pvp is a good thing, you can feel how much more freedom they have with the skills since they dont have to tune it down due to pvp balance.
But they need to release more strikes than just 3.
My biggest issue is actually the loot which does not bode well for Anthem. Its just not exciting in the demo. Its too wonky to play around with builds and the lack of visual change on your javelin when getting new stuff is a big no no.

Man this game runs so buttery smooth on pc. So beautiful and no framerate issues at all. Combat and flight with controller feels fantastic. I am super pumped now
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
But you are wrong. This is much more. The draft alone makes it a different beast. What you are describing are gatcha games. This one has a huge esport potential. None of those mobile games have that.
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
Auto Chess has a placement system and items (which have their own build combinations). And most importanly this is a drafting game.
This is very much it’s own game, despite similarities to other games.
Thread刀塔自走棋 - AUTO CHESS |OT| The best 2019 indie SRPG you are prolly never going to play (*not DOTA or CHESS)
The biggest flaw of this game is the whole press q then move. With 30 sec prep time that is bad.
Edit: and that being my only complaint says something about how great the overall design of this game is

Auto Chess is perfect for twitch, and it has fast easy to understand gameplay, while at the same time having quite abit of depth.
Artifact was pretty much dead before auto chess.
But I do wonder if Auto Chess will become a big problem for Magic.
ThreadDo you admit ever feeling schadenfreude from seeing a game fail?
Knowing how that can effect the developers who worked their behinds of to create it, it would never even cross my mind to feel happy about a game failing.

Why are you against a basic menu? Having the option the launch the game for itself without going straight from dota to match would be nice.
Where is that ranking system? :)

1. Chrono Trigger - 92
2. Witcher 3 - 93
3. Dota 2 - 90
4. Dragon Age: Origins - 91
5. Europa Universalis IV - 87
6. Lost Odyssey - 78
7. Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (World soccer: Winning Eleven 9) - Not enough reviews to have a metacritic
9. World of Warcraft - 93
10. Final Fantasy IX - 94
So pretty much only Lost Odyssey that didnt get above 80.
