Thread PS4 BC on the PS5 to work on “overwhelming majority” of the library, games to benefit from improved frame rates and resolutions
This unfortunately. Sony appear to be taking an almost identical approach to how Boost Mode works on the PS5 Pro. Basically stabilising frame rates and dynamic resolutions but that's it.

Thread Call of Duty: Warzone |OT| Remember, No Chicken Dinner
I lost in the Gulag via flag capture. The game seemed to think I was still alive so my team mates couldn't respawn me. Once the gas started coming in I could hear my character coughing and they died (as if I was still in the Gulag). Team mates then respawned me and this happened! I could sprint everywhere at super speed. I couldn't apply armour though and when I took damage it went straight to my health. I died shortly after as a result... But it gave some good laughs. A bug that needs fixing, but the game is a blast!

Thread Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) resources and discussion thread (Discussion guidelines in OP)
Markets across the world taking a huge hit. Honestly the fear and panic is substantially more dangerous than the reality of this thing. The strain it'll place on healthcare systems due to the panic will cause far more damage than the virus itself. Economies will crash, people will lose their jobs, severely ill folks will be impacted due to healthcare strain and all whilst the media enjoy a perfect storm of clickbaity headlines and fear inducing panic to revel in the traffic. I know many folks who work directly in virus & medical research who're far more concerned with the panic than the virus itself. If they're not concerned, I'm not concerned (for healthy individuals that is), however the panic certainly does concern me.

Thread Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) resources and discussion thread (Discussion guidelines in OP)
Absolutely agree. Unfortunately the scale of the panic created by the media would suggest this is an absurdly vicious virus with a severe fatality rate. Here in the UK folks are panic buying soaps and toilet roll to the point where they're completely sold out and now supermarkets are now placing actual caps on what people can buy. Those who genuinely are at risk such as the elderly who can't run out to supermarkets to prepare for an impeding apocalypse will struggle to purchase what they need because of panicked healthy individuals going overboard. This is just one small instance of the fear resulting in a larger impact than the virus itself.

I appreciate the mentality of getting a box that allows people to jump into next gen for a fraction of the price of the main box / PS5, but the messaging is going to have to be rock solid to deliver it. Personally a disc-less cheaper full power box to help reduce the price vs the competion makes far more sense to me. Otherwise the impact on development concerns me.

Thread Choosing between physical and digital - I am in limbo
Depends on the platform for me. Xbox is full digital simply because of the benefits this provides - Microsoft are doing a solid job of slowly adding value to the digital library. Switch I'm as digital as possible - whilst I don't trust Nintendo to be forwarding thinking with my library, having a big library already ready to go on the system is a big bonus. PS4 I'm full physical - Sony don't seem to have gone in as hard on digital this generation with region locked accounts etc. I have a few digital bits here and there. Prior to this gen I was 100% physical, so it's been a big shift for my library!

My two cents: The game will remain down for an extended period e.g until usual Tuesday morning GMT time. Taking the game down for 1.5 days will generate a huge amount of buzz and attention when combined with occasional changes / occurrences on the black whole screen / stream. It's unprecedented and they're certainly not hurting for the money lost in that short period. Doing so would create a huge wave of reinvigorated interest in a game that (despite remaining huge) has had declining numbers. I could be wrong, but hey that's my theory!

So what's the cable consensus? Currently using the included Switch hdmi cable with usb plugged into the dock. I'm using this on my B6 OLED and there's a tangible improvement. It's not mind blowing but it's definitely a cleaner image largely due to the AA going on. I've tried knocking games down to 720p but it always makes the IQ notably worse and blurrier. This was the biggest takeaway I tried to illustrate in my review. Throughout my time with the game I constantly felt like it should have been more of an improvement on the first. It seemed almost like the team had a grander scope that the budget possibly couldn't support? Some areas are improved but others weirdly a step back. It became especially apparent when I switched back to the original and played them side by side - it was quite a shock in fact. It's not a bad game, but for me it felt like much more of a side step than a step up.

HZD is my biggest disappointment of this gen which ironically coincides with Killzone 2 being my biggest disappointment of last gen. Big fan of the aesthetic and visuals but the game itself just felt so uninspired. Hopefully it clicks for you OP, but there's a good chance it just isn't for you! Thread Headphones Era lOTl Even Through The Distortion We Remain Lossless
Just received a pair of Sony WH-1000XM3s at the weekend from a deal here in the UK. Great audio quality but after about 30-60 mins of use I started noticing a white noise / distant waterfall kind of sound in the right earcup only. The volume of said sound varies, sometimes becoming louder, and only occurs when ANC is turned on. It's noticeable when nothing is playing but remains present with audio playing and therefore noticeable in quieter moments. Makes noise cancellation pointless if it's going to CREATE noise. Looking to get a replacement but I'm concerned how common the issue might be. Seen quite a lot of discussion online about it, often related to the latest 4.1.1 update however even after attempting to downgrade to 2.0.0 the issue still remains, so evidently it isn't tied to the newer firmware.

Oh man what terrible news to wake up to. Never followed his stuff outside of seeing the occasional hype memes, only really heard about him from here and his previous incidents. This is an eye opening moment for mental health in the gaming community, it's just deeply sad that it came to this. You never know what someone else is going through in their head - something that's always worth remembering. It's often difficult to comprehend from folks that don't have similar thoughts. It just doesn't compute. "It's a media stunt". "The boy who cried wolf". I've been in those shoes, and it's absolutely okay for someone not to understand that mentality or to think differently about things. Life's events shape our understanding of the world, including mental health. What I'm trying to say is hopefully this helps others spot the signs of someone struggling who's possibly close to them. What might seem crazy and stupid to one person could be another person struggling to deal with their thoughts, expressing themselves in the only way they know how. It's okay to not be okay. It's okay to have bad days and tough times. Everyone deals with issues at some point in their life no matter how 'famous' or 'normal' they might seem, we're all human. Reach out and try talking to folks, whether it's someone you know or someone you don't. Things will get better eventually.

The whole sticker book collection mechanic with generic spinning icons everywhere just feels uninspiring. It's forcing the PoGo template onto an alternative property where it doesn't make sense. The class selection with individual skill trees is about the only thing we enjoyed. Energy mechanic is pretty bad too with my partner getting numerous 2 drops meaning she simply couldn't play properly despite hitting numerous inns - just bad design. As Phil Spencer said when speaking to Jeff on the Giantbomb E3 discussion a few days ago - playing on a physical console connected to your TV is going to be the way to play. Their approach is to give folks choice, rather than replace. Honestly that's the only way I see streaming being successful - there's always going to be folks which want to play locally for the best experience even against a fairly best case scenario streaming experience. Man, Activision is really scrambling at keeping this Call of Duty ship afloat. Just sad to read. Not sure many will be overly excited for Blops5 so soon. Shifting the project so late is a sure way to destroy morale at Sledgehammer, a studio already seeing a large exodus. I'm not sure it'll still be around in the same way in a few years. And this kind of pressure on Treyarch who've only just come out of a pressurising situation does not seem healthy.

Was hoping S9 might bring me back but I'm not feeling the hype. Futuristic areas and slipstreams look great, but the Battle Pass just seems like the same old formula at this point. And the only new BP mechanic being Fortbytes just feels like type of challenge to try force players back every day, in which they'll just Google where things are / look at a map and get killed whilst trying to do so. I enjoy the challenges but the past few seasons have started to feel more like busywork and a distraction from actually playing the game itself.

It's certainly picked up, but I'd have to agree with you OP. Not sure if it's my nostalgic tinted goggles or what. It feels like the gen took years to even get remotely started after companies were concerned mobile was going to kill console gaming (remember that?). The past 3 years or so have been solid but it feels like this next year or so is going to be a pretty slow one to finish things off. Don't get me wrong there's been some great games but man...remember 2007? There was a lot of safe bets on IPs and less risks being taken overall. Microtransactions became more and more prominent in not only their presence but how they impact the overall design of many titles. We're now in peak GAAS - who knows what the next cycle will be.

No way to teleport it to me or reset it as far as I could tell - game told me bike was too far away to recover even though I could see it... Just there. Head to the next mission, game tells me I need to fuel the bike to start the mission even though its on about 50%. Spend 30 mins looking for fuel. Give up. Turn game off. The discussion of $399 working well historically for Sony is an interesting one, and Albert's breakdown does add a lot of food for thought. I do think however that in this case not only are they in a strong position, but the general 'acceptable' average price of tech has increased a fair amount over the past few years. For this reason I'm still thinking $450-500 is much more likely - the affect that'll have on specs vs profitability though who knows.

Once I settled on it I swapped out some cards here and there which matched the style I was going for as I came across them, but when I experimented with the other characters I found myself feeling worse off. I imagine most will create completely different builds though - there's a hell of a lot of flexibility available. I personally struggled to find viable builds for the other characters but that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't. It just depends how you like to play I'd say! There's a real difficulty spike right towards the end and the colloseum definitely forces you to switch things up in the tougher rounds. If you put it on hard you'll be in for a challenge for sure (difficulty can be changed on the fly too).

In my opinion $499 at least given the supposed rough idea of specs. The game at its core is great but they've well and truly bodged the momentum so far. Things have barely changed since launch at this point, the meta is the same, the battle pass is terribly unrewarding and uninspired, and overall communication has been poor. At each chance to get the momentum back on track it seems they kick things further down. The game needs to iterate and stay fresh much faster than it is right now. I understand why it makes sense for developers - clearly the financial incentive is a good one alongside the financial cut. But man does it completely suck for consumers. The Epic Store is simply a bad product in its current state when compared to the competition, it lacks so many basic features - it's closer to a basic launcher right now. Competition is good, and maybe Epic will get there one day, but right now it's not a good situation. Steam are to blame too for their large % cut. It certainly makes what Tim Sweeney said back in 2016 extremely ironic - money talks.

Thread The Outer Worlds, Control, Dauntless, SpellBreak, The Cycle, Ancestors & More Coming As Timed Exclusives To Epic Games Store; TOW also on MS Store
Partially simply due to a fairly uncompetitive % cut for developers - I can see the developer's side of the puzzle. It's simply because the product (EGS) is poor combined with Epic not being the publisher of these games - instead paying off games for a 1yr exclusivity period. Therefore those interested in the game are forced to purchase on the platform, with no cloud saves, streaming, community features etc, or wait a year. It's a 'platform war' in the PC space that's been an open platform - something ironically the founder of Epic, Tim Sweeney, used in 2016 when expressing unhappiness with the Windows Store / UWP. Whilst fairly normal in the console space this has never been a thing to this degree in PC Gaming.

I'm barely interested in anything in the pass at all, it's jam packed with filler to the point it looks like something thrown together fairly quickly. Considering the game seems to highlight how they'd learnt so much and got so much right from previous BR titles it seems odd Respawn appear to have completely missed the mark and learnt very little from the Battle Pass craze in other games. The game has been losing a fair bit of momentum lately with some very sporadic communication and updates - this isn't looking like the most exciting way to keep people hooked for the next few months.

My X is audible in games that stress it, but it's not even close to my launch PS4 Pro - mostly due to the difference in pitch and how the Pro shifts up and down constantly. How is it in non-enhanced games / dashboard etc? It should be almost silent there. I'd swap it out if you're able to / concerned, there's somewhat of a lottery with these things unfortunately.

Thread Apex Legends Battlepass to be $10
A Battle Pass usually comes alongside a new 'Season' (in this case Season 1). Seasons are where major changes generally occur - with some at the beginning and others gradually as the Season progresses. It's a whole new bunch of cosmetic unlocks to earn via play / challenges in the Battle Pass itself (either free or paid), and new changes or additions to the game that spice things up such as map changes, new weapons, items etc. That's generally how they work in BR games but Respawn could obviously put their own spin on things.

I personally feel there could have been far more exciting ways to approach the WW2 setting. A real 1942 'sequel' would get a of folks excited. Instead BFV is pretty much tweaked BF1 in WW2. I think most Battlefield fans would love to see a return to the larger scale of the game - planes on air fields, battle cruisers, submarines, Pacific maps etc. Battlefield was the go-to large scale warfare series. Over the years it's become far too streamlined and flashy. We're in a time where Call of Duty has more players in a battle than Battlefield - something nobody would have expected a few years ago.

I understand that hard crashing is really not great, and pretty concerning. But this post has been blowing up, with articles starting to be written and spread online, yet nowhere does this poster mention how it's undeniably Anthem that's bricked his console. 'Some game' always ends up bricking people's bricked consoles by coincidence of what they were playing at the time. Agreed poor choice imo, but it depends where your view stands. Personally if I can pay money for a game and play it then it's out, doesn't matter if someone slaps an "early access" label on it because they're releasing hot. But many don't take that viewpoint - I disagree with it, but can see why some folks still differentiate it. Mike's clearly one of those as his view is likely shaped from the somewhat publisher orientated experience of his professional field. Point being - I don't agree with Mike's view but it's his opinion at the end of the day and that's fine, I don't want to roast the guy for seeing things differently to me.

Absolutely, there's no doubt imo. Reviews are based on the game at that point, not if / when it drops in price months down the line. Expectations for a budget title are often fairly lower than a pricier one - even if it's just from a production value perspective. Price is a major factor for many folks buying games therefore should play a role in the overall evaluation of a product.

Thread I seem to have image burn on my OLED TV. Is this a thing?
Had my B6 for well over a year now and the only time I've ever noticed any kind of burn-in / image retention is on the console dashboards when you go from the dash to a black screen. I've literally never noticed it in any kind of meaningful content, and I binge play games on weekends for 5-6+ hours at a time. I have my OLED brightness fairly high around 60-70 and 100 in HDR. Anyone being vastly concerned over it and choosing other TVs over an OLED purely because of this single reason is over-reacting - the benefits far outweigh the negatives. I'm sure it can happen, but I use my TV every single day for games which always feature plenty of static content and it's been a complete non-issue for me. When you leave the room to go cook for example don't just leave the TV sat on a static screen, turn it off. The LG OLED's do their own cycle if the TV has been on over 4 hours to try clear any image retention that may occur. (I believe that may be a setting to enable) That said, if you're having a real issue I do recommend taking it up with LG. I imagine just like any TV, there's going to be panel variance and people encountering issues that others don't. Hope you manage to sort it OP!

Spent a couple of hours with the beta and in that time hit a myriad of bugs, this thing feels rough right now. And this is meant to be the 'polished' vertical slice being shown. The sound bugs are terrible. Audio clipping really badly, completely silent gun fire and effects for minutes on end, or team mates eminating constant gun fire audio when not shooting. Had the mission bug out so you can't open the final door to complete it. Got stuck inside that room on another run. Also been match made teleported into a room that you can't get out of. Had AI stood in their T-Pose. The list goes on. It's a shame given the game does feel otherwise an improvement over the first. Cautiously optimistic.

Extended mags are hugely important here. The 18 round Hemlock can go to around 30 I believe which makes a massive difference. I feel that over time we'll get better with ammo management. Ammo takes up space in Apex whereas in most other major BR's we're used to farming ammo due to it not taking an inventory slot. Coming into Apex there's an adaption curve in that regard so I think that's often to blame currently for many folks struggling with ammo.

I'm surprised they haven't changed this yet, given their fairly consumer-friendly approach as of late. I hope it happens in the near future. Thread A F2P BR game, and cancelling Titanfall 3 is the best thing that could happen to the series.
TheI struggle to share the trend of hating BR related games. This is how gaming goes, always has, always will, people create new genres or styles of gameplay that others borrow and adapt. TDM, CTF etc. Not only that, but at this point there's only a handful of BR titles, not the saturated mass many will have you believe. BR has resulted in a return to much larger scale battles and gameplay from multiplayer first person shooters, much like PC games of old used to reach (who remembers Joint Ops?). Seeing series such as Call of Duty hit 100 players is great - if someone told you a few years ago CoD would be a 100 player game they'd probably laugh you off. Don't get me wrong, I love Titanfall but the game unfortunately didn't sell that well, despite the love many of us have for it. Apex features a hell of a lot of similarities for fans of the series, along with some really great and fresh changes to the 'norm' established by other BR titles. If someone doesn't enjoy it that's absolutely fine, but folks that hate on games just because they're not the one they were hoping the team would make for them seems silly to me. For the devs I'm sure it was far more exciting and creatively inspiring to produce a new take on the genre rather than the third game in a series back-to-back. Hopefully it does result in a Titanfall 3 with a much larger audience to boot - cross-promotions would be great!

I ran into the exact same bugs. The worst for me is making it unable to finish my playthrough, my legacy goals aren't showing up. But the game is just so damn fun regularly despite its buggy issues. I really enjoyed my time with it and will be sinking 10s more hours in for sure. I debated on how hard to knock it for the bugs but at the end of the day I had a blast with it.

This Christmas event seems great, and pretty fair. Honestly the game in general feels pretty fair, I almost want to give them some money but the mtx costs are abit crappy value. The starter bundles seem okay. 99p one I was more than happy to spend some Google Rewards balance on but the rest feel barely justifiable. I hope they expand out the challenges and regularly add to them, along with regular expansion of areas and do fair bundle packs for mtxs. My partner and I are enjoying the game, it's a fun distraction and we've already spent a good few hours tapping away at it - can't really complain for free.

My instinct says it's related to cross-play but I don't really know. Speaking to someone from the team a few months back they said the game was cross play across "most of them", which we can probably guess what that meant. Wouldn't surprise me if there's the possibility of the PS4 release seeing some kind of cross play given how Sony's stance has adapted since that time. This was pre-Fortnite cross play era. No doubt they'd love to have all platforms cross playing, it makes so much sense for the game.

Sonic is Microsoft's free implementation of spacial surround whereas Dolby Atmos is a paid solution created by Dolby. Both work in all games when using headphones, but there are a very small number of games which have been designed with Atmos in mind and have been fine tuned specifically for it. I got an expensive pair of Audio Technica ADG1X's recently as a gift (awesome gift) and originally they felt a little flat to me. I was underwhelmed and feeling upset for my partner who gifted them to me. I think the issue is I'd adjusted to the 'fake' enhanced sound of cheaper headphones with overly strong bass etc. I switched on Dolby Atmos and watched some of the 'test' videos and was absolutely blown away, the purchase was completely redeemed. I've been using them in games over the past week and a half and they're just incredible with Atmos enabled. The clarity is amazing but Atmos enhances the Bass a little to hit that sweetspot for me, whilst also letting me pinpoint exact locations of footsteps in games like CoD with crazy precision. So for me Atmos was a big improvement and I'll absolutely pay the small license fee when my trial is up. Try both out, see which you prefer / which work best with your pair of headphones! There's a 30 day trial for Atmos but Sonic is free forever.

I'm loving this console so far. It's running unpatched games which chugged a bit on XB1S much smoother (e.g Agents of Mayhem and Elex are substantially better). But enhanced games just look awesome. Battlefront 2 is almost some generational leap level of improvement, it looks incredible. CoD WW2 runs rock solid and looks awesome. Not only that but it's really quiet too, even under load the fan is barely audible compared to my jet engine PS4 and PS4 Pro. I was feeling like the S was starting to really be pushed to its limits but this thing feels like a beast. Only issue I have had is with my downloads - they keep stopping or going slow. I didn't have this on my S but when I go to My Games & Apps it seems the downloads have stopped. I spent 2 hours last night getting Battlefront 2 to about 20%. I turned off the system to have some food and watch TV for just under an hour, came back, and the download was completed. Anyone else having similar?

From there at least with the B6 I personally recommend using HDR Game Mode then turning up Dynamic Contrast to Medium at least. HDR Game is simply too dim without Dynamic Contrast enabled. There may be a marginal loss in detail but imo the overall image quality far makes up for it. Once you're in a HDR input you can adjust HDR settings, but I don't believe you can tweak them until you're actually in HDR mode.

I'm currently working my way through the campaign to get it finished. It's...okay. Coming straight off of the CoD WW2 campaign (which I absolutely loved in all its Michael Bay esque mindless setpiece glory), it just feels really flat. CoD's missions are completely bespoke to the campaign and it has production quality through the roof. DICE games though have serious issues in their campaigns with just re-using multiplayer assets. A bunch of the levels are just ripped straight out of multiplayer and end up feeling more like bot matches with loose objectives than a properly constructed and focused campaign. It ends up feeling like high quality acting segments with farted out missions. As if the multiplayer assets were created then someone hamfisted a campaign out of them. That said the game is so damn fun in the Galactic Conquest mode, and impressive. I really enjoy how funnelled the battles are and how they progress through the map. DICE seriously need to just add the squad system from Battlefield in though rather than the absolutely terrible dumbed down auto-squads on respawn. It just doesn't work, people run off in random directions and don't work together as intended.

It's not, at all. Basically you get the 2nd unlock weapon for each class, I believe 100 kills to earn it? And the first attachment so 50 kills per weapon. Could be wrong there. And you get 3 days early along with a 'rare' tier star card for each class. So basically you're just paying for a time saver. I grabbed it from the HK store for just over 50 quid so not a huge difference in price - it felt 'worth' a tenner to me personally mainly just to play the campaign earlier this week.

As someone who runs a marketing company, it's very evident they're promoting this game like a real launch, not a game that's in alpha state. They've sent mini swag carepackage boxes with the game included to a LOT of Youtubers and streamers. Their social media approach has almost zero mention of it being an early access product, and instead has constantly mentioned the impending launch and exclusivity. They've taken a tactful approach to make the 'early access' portion a very small asterisk that's mentioned as little as possible. Unsurprisingly I've already had 4-5 casual gamer friends speak to me who had zero clue that it was releasing as an early access / alpha style game. As a result I think it's absolutely right that if Microsoft are marketing and promoting the game like a real launch, players should be able to feedback as if it's a real launch (not to mention the fact it's a paid product).

The problem here is this a common thing to need to do in PUBG, often during a tense moment too. Also on an X and have the same feelings. I get the impression some folk who didn't play on PC aren't aware of how it should feel possibly combined with just a higher tolerance for low frame rates. But for me the game seems like it's barely hitting 30 with constant input lag kicking in that gets particularly worse when you aim down sights - the one period you really don't want input lag. Sure, I guess I expected more given the MS marketing brunt behind working with the team. No issues with the 30fps cap for preview but I was hoping it'd hit it consistently. Right now the fps is really genuinely bad (either that or it's frame pacing issues) with some big drops when ADS'ing. Controller input response times go through the roof

If I could refund from cdkeys right now I would. Highly recommend everyone try the 1hr trial first. It doesn't feel good at all on Xbox especially if you've tried it on pc. The frame rate is horrible and even worse when aiming down sight. Controlling the ui just trying to do basic things like unequip all attachments then pickup another gun and kit it out takes far too long - it's super fiddly.

So I suppose there are support style abilities to utilise but not in the traditional sense. Hopefully it'll still encourage team work and roles being played in tougher content.

So I just fell off it pretty quick around 3 hours in. The gameplay loop in 2 is great, it's still clunky but it's improved, reminds me of TLOU with the stealth distraction play and the ability to approach each scenario freely. I still find the characters cheesy and pretty uninteresting but discovering what's going on in the town is actually quite intriguing to me. It makes for a fun experience for one player and a terrible one for the 5 on the other team. Back when it was 3-5-7 it wasn't so bad but these days CoD killstreaks are so bombastic and over the top, they can cause a team to completely snowball. Along with a patch that breaks the GKS, breaks Blackout looting even more, ignores Xbox's Quads major gamebreaking stuttering, ignores PC's Blackout stuttering, ignores Blackout loot bags d-pad quick loot getting stuck on consoles, ignores sniper scope misalignment, ignored hit detection issues, ignores Blackout footstep audio issues, but introduces a hula hoop dance. I agree Hearthstone does have those cheap metas that are often very tough to counter, but Blizz would often nerf them into the ground shortly after. As a casual player it certainly feels like there's already been multiple times I couldn't really have done anything. Sure if I'd have known my opponent's deck was building up towards a big spell / play I could have tried to predict / counter it, but that takes a fairly large amount of experience to know those kind of plays and on-going metas. Here it's like I'll spend 20 minutes thinking "I'm doing okay" only to suddenly get my entire lane demolished in one spell and be basically out of the match. If it's a 5/10 min game like Hearthstone it's like screw it, surrender and queue up again. But in Artifact due to the slow nature of the game it just feels utterly demoralising, as if I just wasted 20-25 minutes of my life with absolutely nothing to show for it. It doesn't make me want to come back for more, it makes me want to spend my limited gaming time on something else. Don't get me wrong there's some awesome depth there for the real hardcore. But that longer game time coupled with a total lack of progression will do the game no favours with the more casual card player, and I think you're already starting to see that in the player numbers.

Thread Artifact |OT| Mangoj eebayted
After coming in negative and trying out the game for the first hour or two I was pleasantly surprised. But the more I play the more negative I'm feeling on this. The whole payment model is just pretty gross, it feels incredibly 'pay to get a giant advantage' in constructed. It just feels frustrating knowing without being great at the game I can't earn any cards - it's super anti-casual friendly. As someone who dips in and out of digital card games, it's just pushing me away completely. There's almost no element of progression by slowly building up your collection and decks as a casual player. That and the length of the matches make losing even more frustrating. Once you get to 7+ mana the amount of monumental game shifting cards that appear seem almost ridiculous - once you hit that late game folks with strong cards can wipe out huge amounts or completely change the match around. That frustrating element makes it feel way less addictive than the competition and almost has the opposite effect - it feels like a waste of time. The game is so slow, and so punishing, I'd be surprised if it was able to hook in casual players over time.

Hey I wrote that - thanks for sharing. It's surprising to me that Valve of all companies could misread the room so badly in multiple ways with this. Hopefully they have some major positive changes in the pipeline. I have attempted to get in touch with them but I'd be surprised if we got a response directly. With their resources I do still think they turn it around with some smart changes to the gameplay itself and overall monetization approach, but it's certainly not looking great right now. It would depend whether Valve determine it's worth it or not long term.
Published

Thread Is Artifact already a dead game?
It's difficult - I think there's numerous factors at play here that aren't just related to the game's messaging and monetization, granted those are definitely also in need of change. The game's matches take far too long for most and don't flow nicely. Hearthstone for example has a great pick up and play appeal that encourages 'just one more go'. At the end of an Artifact match you almost feel burnt out, rather than ready for another. Also I've seen many more hardcore players which stuck with the game longer talk about fairly serious balance problems alongside numerous of the game's mechanics being heavily RNG influenced, more so than other games in the genre, leading to frustration.
Published

(16464961)

Thread Is Artifact already a dead game?
The player base is certainly on a steep steep decline. The game has numerous core issues but the micro transaction model is pretty bad in the current game's state for multiple reasons : - it makes the initial purchase much less appealing knowing you may need to spend more before you've even started (double'y bad when the major competition is f2p with no entry barrier) - combined with the in-game progression (or lack of) makes casuals feel unrewarded and uninspired to continue playing - whether true or not breeds a demoralizing "that guy spent more money on the game" feeling for casual players trying to get into the game. When you mix that with some other core issues like the matches taking way too long overall, I think Valve certainly have some work to do to turn things around.

I thought MGS 5 was a pretty terrible game. The tapes go on forever talking nonsense whilst you're busy doing other things. The open world feels empty outside of enemy camps and completely lifeless - as video gamey as they come. Mechanically solid but everything else surrounding it just bland.

Unfortunately don't expect actual HDR in any real capacity at that price point. Whilst tv manufacturers will sell you HDR on the box the tv is basically capable of accepting the signal and that's about it. Lower end tvs are just simply unable to display HDR due to a range of factors. The cheapest mid range panel you can buy that supports genuine HDR is the Sony XE9005 in the UK, which has dropped to around 999 this black Friday.

I forgot how much fun the game is. Been having a blast playing some tonight. The update seems great, it has DLC level of content. I hope Ubi continue to make drops like this until we get a sequel. Been enjoying exploring the new zone and modes. Still need to try the co-op wave defence mode.

Thread The Division 2 - Story trailer
Anthem vs Division will be interesting in the next few months. I believe whilst Anthem feels far more exciting to me, Division 2 will be more solid overall due to the lessons learnt from the first game. Ubi are talking a fair amount about their endgame - it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being fairly fleshed out whilst Anthem's endgame struggles. Hyped to play both though!
