Oh BTW, originally the SNES was supposed to have a 68k as well, the Megadrive/Genesis would have been DEAD if Yamauchi did not reverse that decision. The never released Namco home console had one as well.

Thread Should I keep punching Chris Kohler?
I am dissapointed, I want to quit physically harming Chris but most of you want me to continue in my erronous ways. You want me to harm a man who does not deserve the unjustice I have dealt him for 2 decades. You disgust me so I make a solemn pledge right now. I will never punch him ever again.

Thread Should I keep punching Chris Kohler?
Two decades ago the games industry was introduced to the Kohler Punch. It basically consists of me hiding somewhere and punching Chris Kohler on the shoulder when he least expects it, a few people have done so at events in my absence. Should this cruel and unussual punishment of Kohler END NOW or is it a cherished tradition that should be preserved for the ages? I will abide with what you people decide.

Thread Which is the best of these three games: Dragon Quest 1, Final Fantasy 1, Phantasy Star 1
There is a reason for that. With the memory limits on 8 bit systems Yuji Naka was going insane thinking of a way to fit the 3d dungeons in, he locked himself up in a conference room for a week where he worked on a solution. He made a cube of different coloured legos so assentially the game in order to fit has just one dungeon. The colours seperate what part of the cube you are in.

More then a decade ago I wrote this sadly part of it got censored by site owner Adam Doree for reasons still unknown to me. The parts ommited are about Pokhilko and him murdering his wife and child before committing suicide. The man I was told by both Rogers and Pajitnov was a sweet loving man except for times of extreme stress when his dark side took over. His dark side took over that fatefull night while unbeknown to him he actually had an investor from Japan waiting to save his company Animatek. A dark and sad story never fully told, also his wikipedia entry is wrong, his suicide note did not say the devil, it said Tha davil.

A being who is us but not us because 99.99% in this universe meanse trillions to a trillion degrees of difference. He is us but he is not, I am you but I am not. MS did not copy PS eye, Blu Ray for this gen was ineviteable, they did it only after Sony followed suit and started charging for online and giving temporary licenses to the games(drop PSN and you lose the games) while MS gave em for keeps regardles of Live status. There were disc systems before playstation. Both the Wiimote and the PS wand(lolz) were kicensed from the same medical hardware company by Sony as well as Nintendo. Neither one of em came up with it themselves, they both licensed the tech from the same company.

Like most things those features were logical progressions. Consumers dont see it but the really big things happen in the shadows. Kinect as a standalone consumer product might have failed but it is a huge succes in vertical markets and guess what Apple and Huawei use the technology in their phones. If you want to talk game changers, retroactively adding analog and rumble to controllers in a knee jerk reaction to competition is not a game changer or innovation. Kinect however is. You are wrong about DVD and partially wrong about Blu Ray. DVD was everywhere when the PS2 launched from te backseat of cars(to keep the kids quiet during long rides) to EVERY PC/Laptop being sold to home players and portables. People could buy a movie and literally had half a dozen devices in their possesion that could play that disc. Not so with Blu Ray, I know plenty of people who only have a console that can play the movies and thats it.

DVD was mainstream long before PS2 and Blu Ray they won because of studio politics and bribes. Also twin analog was the logical progression of twin sticks which had existed since the early 70s, vibration build in was another natural progression for home controllers. Nintendo already had the rumble pack and force feedback had been a staple in arcades.

Thread Phil Spencer Announces X0 Xbox Conference — November 10, 2018
Actually Sony did approach em for just that after they lost Halo to Microsoft. Here is a lil thing I wrote(three pages) that details it: "Back in December 1999," said Hulst, "we had made a demo called . I showed it to Sony in London, and you have to understand back then that was a risky proposition -- since the only popular console FPS was . A lot has changed since then." Given the market conditions when Hulst pitched the project to Sony, and the fact that Sony already had a promising sci-fi shooter slated for its platform, its decision to take a pass on the project made sense. On one hand, you had a small Dutch developer which had never produced a shooter before, and on the other hand was a well-known developer with a proven track record. Coming from the PC and Mac sphere, Bungie had extensive experience in making first person shooters (the series) and had two games pledged for the upcoming PS2 system. One was a third person action game called ; the other one however is arguably the game that built the Xbox brand -- none other than . Bungie started out as one of the very few Mac game developers, but economic realities (the implosion of sales of Macintosh computers in the late '90s) forced it to branch out to Windows computers as well. was first considered for release on Mac, PC, and Dreamcast. As hype started to build around the upcoming release of the PlayStation 2, the Dreamcast version was shelved in favor of a console exclusivity deal with Sony for PS2 -- where Sony itself would act as publisher of the game. Microsoft, however, was coming out with its Xbox and needed more talented developers to attract gamers to its first real entry into the console industry. Bungie was open for a buyout, and Sony lost the franchise. It still gotvia Rockstar, however. Ironically, -- the game that killed the project for Sony -- was also the one that revived it. After the huge success enjoyed on the Xbox, Sony realized it needed a high profile exclusive sci-fi shooter on the PS2. Guerrilla was contacted and the project got the greenlight -- and the budget it needed.

Thread TGS 2018 attendance tops record with 298,690
Gamescom is capped at 385k individuals. I say individuals because it is the only show that counts actual individuals. If you go to TGS for multiple days you get counted multiple times. At Gamescom everyone has a unique barcode that gets scanned as you enter and as you leave the venue so if you go for multiple days you still count as just 1. Brazil Games Show for instance also attracts more visitors then TGS.

Creative Commons license for most of my stuff, anyone can freely use it as long as they credit me. If you have commercial plans with it you need my permission. As for subject signing a waiver, its not needed but Nintendo did want to read the text and see pics before publication. They were fine with everything until AFTER publication where they asked me to change the bits where Miyamoto talked about his heart attack.

A long time ago I took this pic Within a very short time it started poping up all over the place, Kotaku used it over a dozen times and only credited me once, it was printed in Game Informer with them apologizing and crediting me afterwards, used by TShirt companies etcetera. At one point tracking and complaining about it to people who stole it became a part time job in itself. Thought that was behind me but lo and behold here it is again at 2 minutes 31 seconds in. I cry tears.

No they do not, there was no PR person present the 5 days I had in my own hotel room to play Crysis 3. The only time there were was when we were at the studio to do multiplayer and there they did not bother us. I also did not have to sign an NDA or any bulshit agreement where we could publish the score for the game immediatly if we gave it a 9 out of 10 but had to wait until after release if it scored lower like some of these companies tend to do(thus ensuring a high pre release metacritic which drives launch day sales). Thankfully those practices are not as prevalent as they used to be but oh hey just a lil over a month before release and here we have Rockstar once again keeping an iron grip on any info that goes out. They were not even present at Gamescom in the bizz area to show it to the press. Tell me regardless if you like it or not do you think a one day review event with a PR person behind your back directing what you do in a game the right way to judge something with the scope of GTAIV? Not to mention the NDA and fact that they only invited those who had previously been nothing but lyrical about the series.

GTAIV review event, select amount of people were invited and each had a PR rep behind them directing their experience going Oh hey go Bowling, go catch a pigeon, you can do this, you can do that thus giving the reviewer in their limited time the impression that the game provided you with uprecedented freedom while in he actual game you are just being used as an errand boy by the other characters.

Let me tell you a little story about 2K/Rockstar. They are the biggest bullshitters in the industry. Example one: Bioshock Infinite: I think the year is 2009 and at Gamescom Ken Levine is narrating a supposed level from the game about one third in, besides him is a dude acting as if he is playing the game. The entire level is absolutely incredible looking and Levine tells us you can finish the game without firing a single shot, your actions will influence future levels and yada yada yada. The final game has none of that and does not even include the level that was supposedly all gameplay. Example 2: Maffia 3 again a so called gameplay demonstration with a person play acting. I sneak in for a second viewing away from the sheduled one I did previously and see the exact same thing for a second time. Example 3: Maffia 3 again closer to release, yet again we are told that a person will play the game in front of our eyes and the audience is asked if we want stealth or guns blazing. The crwod goes for stealth and the person doing the presentation accidentaly is ahead of script and goes to list the weapons the person supposedly playing has chosen even before he has done so.

Thread What *equivalent* GPU do you think the PS5/XB4 will have?
Dont be silly of course it can, an XBox One S could do 4k 60fps if a game would be programmed to do so. It all depends on WHAT you want to do. Age old battle, graphics versus framerate.

I am from Belgium and gave expert testimony to the Belgian Gaming Commision which they completely ignored in their rapport because it did not fit their narrative. First thing first, we have no law about lootboxes. What the gaming commision did was interpret existin gambling laws to say that most lotbxes are indeed gambling and should be treated as such. That is all it is, no court has yet decided on the legal validity of their intrepetations.
