Thread [Guide] How to use RTSS's Scanline Sync to reduce stuttering, screen tearing and input lag on PC (alternative to Vsync, G-Sync and FreeSync)
Not sure if ive gotten it to work as the Cntrl + Shift and arrow up and down were not working, so I just applied a global setting of -140 in scanline sync at 4k. So while I do not see any tearlines which is great with this global setting of -140, the whole exerpeine is just very "jittery" compared to Vsync ON. A slow pan results in everything just not being smooth at all, something kind of like microstutter. Am I doing something wrong?, My fps is at around 85-90 which is well above the 60hz limit on my TV, but the game just isnt smooth and looks bad to be honest. . Am I doing somethign wrong?, Is this normal?, or am I just use to Vsync ON smoothness? Is Scanline Sync meant to lock FPS to the refresh rate?, because again following all the steps above and entering -140 in the Scanline sync box, my fps in game is showing 85-90. EDIT: relaunching everything managed to get the hotkeys to work, but the overall experience is still very jittery when compared to Vsync ON and FPS has not auto locked to refresh rate as others have mentioned it should?

Thread [Guide] How to use RTSS's Scanline Sync to reduce stuttering, screen tearing and input lag on PC (alternative to Vsync, G-Sync and FreeSync)
are there any known issues with Scanline Sync on multiple monitors?, im trying to play on my TV (60hz) while having a 120hz monitor also connected. I've followed the steps exactly again and still getting uncapped frame rate on my tv/60hz. EDIT: so after some playing around, it does appear multiple monitors does actually throw Scanline Sync right off from locking FPS properly. It appears RTTS uses the primary PC display when Scanline Sync tries to lock fps to the monitors refresh rate. A few things I tried included: The only way I managed to get it working was to disable my primary monitor in NVCP, followed by resetting windows to "force" the TV to be the only display. Once this was done, it seemed RTSS finally managed to pickup the TV Hz as the main source and locked the fps properly with no stutters. While it was a fantastic experience, it appears to be a bit of a lengthy process for those with multi-monitor displays. Is there any work around to this?, or any line we can add to the config file in RTSS to select which monitor Scanline Sync should read off without disabling monitors and resetting windows? Manually disabling the primary PC monitor and resetting the system every time I want to use Scanline Sync on TV, and then turning the PC Monitor back on in NVCP and resetting the system again seems to be a bit of a long and manual process. thanks

Any particular reason why the HDR Game Mode has Dynamic Contract set to OFF?, I thought this needs to be set to LOW at the very least to get some sort of tone mapping? Giving these settings a shot because HIGH Dynamic Contrast makes the image looks really weird and shiny, but these setting appear to make the image really dark?

Might be something on my end then, because as soon as I enter HDR game mode with Dynamic Contract set to High, the image looks incredibly different to the other HDR presents in WebOs, etc. It is drastically brighter which is good but as a result also has a very artificial shiny/ effect to everything. I can confirm this is both using a PS4 and PC.

You can force 4:2:0 on PS4/ PS4 Pro combined with limited color space, as this is an option in the resolution section of the video settings in my previous post, when I listed all the PS4 settings available. In this case, it should technically make the settings comparable to XB1. The only option we dont have is selecting the the color depth and forcing it to 10bit (only option is Off and Auto, Auto is needed for HDR), which may be the culprit behind the increased lag, but then again, I understand PS4 HDR is @ 10bit only?. The only downside to forcing 4:2:0 this is that you have to manually change back to RGB Limited for non-HDR titles. I've been testing this for a few days now and the PQ is great. Its now an option of better/ brighter PQ in HDR with slightly increased input lag or a slightly more dimmed Game Mode HDR with better response. Titles like Days Gone pronounce the input lag in Standard HDR, as the response is already a little sluggish on Game Mode, so Standard HDR just makes it more noticeable and harder to aim. As mentioned by yourself previously and the input lag testing device, I do think the actual input lag may be the same between Standard HDR as Game Mode at 21ms, as the actual input itself and initial responsiveness actually feels quiet similar, but once you start moving, you really feel it. I'm getting a feeling the way Standard HDR handles motion may be the reason behind this input type feeling a little more "sluggish" and delayed when compared to Game mode, which people may be perceiving as greater lag, which in essence, is correct. There is defiantly a difference/ more sluggish feeling in input and i think the motion handling is the reason behind this, as I also understand, input lag instruments are measured by flashes on the screen rather than actual motion. That's my take from using Standard HDR vs Game mode for a few days anyway...

This. I’ve also tried various combinations on both PS4 and PC including the recommended 4:2:0 at 12bit (on pc) and both 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 set with limited on PS4 and HDR Standard always appears to be slightly more sluggish/ have higher lag than traditional game mode. It might be because both PS4 and PC don’t actually allow you to set 4:2:0 @ 10 bit exactly like XBOX, so we are never truely comparing like for like?

I've got to say though, The Division 2 in Standard HDR mode on PC input looks absolutely stunning. (4:2:0 @ 12Bit on PC). Dark scenes at night are inky black (switching between Standard and Game mode on PC Input, the blacks in Standard HDR do appear inkier than game mode) and the bright scenes are very bright. I really get the feeling of the agent running through the dark abandoned streets with an occasional street light providing the only source of light. Looks absolutely incredible. Although I've noticed some HDR games like DMC5 completely freak out when i use 4:2:0 @ 12 bit (PC Input), making the screen all green/ purple with the only solution of fixing is toggling on/off HDR setting in windows display settings. Didn't get this issue with 4:2:2 @ 12 bit in Game input mode

question in regards to the new PC Mode HDR options on PS4. On PS4, we do not have an option to de-select a color depth setting, or force off 4:2:2 in HDR, so I'm assuming the best settings for PS4 HDR gaming will still be Option 1.

Has anyone tested 7.2 ultimate on PS4 and know what settings to use? We can lock resolution to 4:2:0, but we have no choice for 8/10/12 bit colour. Selecting 4:2:0 makes the image washed out and it won’t auto switch to RGB full for non HDR content. I’m sticking with option 1 for ps4 gaming in the meantime until we figure out the right settings for ps4. Ps4 video out settings are as follows: Resolution: Automatic, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 2160p - YUV420, 2160 - RGB RGB Range: Automatic (Recommended), Limited, Full HDR: Automatic, Off Deep Color Output: Automatic, Off

Everything default meaning follow the settings you have provided for DV, or default settings on a Home Cinema profile on the tv itself? Default on TV the makes the image look very “blue” and very different to your other settings.

Why not just run an optical cable directly from your console into the AV Receiver for DTS?. I had the exact same issue when running my PC > TV > AVR (my PS4 is actually fine in this setup with ARC) and there was a massive lag in sound even at -5, but running an optical fixed this and you still get that punch from DTS. I know optical isn't as good as HDMI for sound, but optical DTS is a whole lot better than running PCM via HDMI. You do need to change the AVR input to optical every time you want to play games, but its totally worth it in this instance.

These HDR gaming profile settings are changing daily. I can see how some people can get frustrated as the settings recommended last week are now drastically different to whats live in the OP now. Personally I like seeing these changes to test myself and fine tune the right setting for my personal viewing preference, but are we shying away from the image being "accurate" at this point in favour of user preferences? Although with whites, I thought W45 was the ideal setting as DC High made whites warmer naturally, but now I see its back to W50 with DC still on high?. In the last 24 hours I also noticed color change from 44 to 44 with option of 55 and now just 55. Are these changes purely just based off user feedback at this point rather than proper accuracy of the image measured with a device? I understand recently the change to Color 55 in HDR Game mode made colors "pop" more which I really like (at first it seemed over saturated from the previous posted settings, but my eyes are adjusting as I do prefer the more vivid colors usually). Is there a recommended setting for SDR Game mode to also make colours "pop" without becoming over saturated?

Can I ask, in SDR mode for X1X, why is the color gamut recommended at Auto when Wide looks much nicer and has a lot more “pop” to it? By accuracy standards, is Wide over saturating the image or something - resulting in overall inaccurate colors? or is wide just making already accurate colours just stand out a bit more? Thanks

Yeh I also feel this way, but I'm going to stick with the settings in the OP for at least 1-2 weeks and hopefully adjust to it. I also find the picture doesn't "pop" as much with Warm 2, but I guess we are going for colour accuracy rather than an image that "pops". OP - If we feel the colour isn't popping out with these settings, does increasing the colour sliders slightly again throw out the entire calibration? or will it be a more "poppy"- accurate image?

Few Questions: 1) Do we have confirmation that PC Input type actually introduces more input lag than Game Mode? (>21ms). 2) Also quick question in regards to the "warmness of the image". If I find Warm 2 too warm, will Warm 1 still give an "accurate" image in regards to all the White Balance/ CMS changes or do I need to have Warm 2 selected for these very specific alterations to come into full effect? I guess what I'm asking is, if I prefer a less warm image and prefer to use Warm 1, should I still make all the changes recommended in the White Balance and Colour Management System or will this result in a completely out of wack image? 3) What would be the best settings to use when connecting an actual PC for HDR Gaming?. Should we copy the Xbox output settings and force 4:2:0 and select 10bit colour?. Would this also be suitable for SDR PC gaming? My thoughts on RDR HDR: I find HDR turned ON for the C7 OLED actually looks better than HDR OFF. Might be due to the increased overall brightness it provides to the image?, but in terms of "washed out", I hardly notice a difference between HDR and SDR and im the type of person to sit there compare two images for hours. I had also changed the overall brightness to 48 so this may be why... thanks

Thanks for the explanation!. So essentially when it comes down to it, we are trying to get the most accurate colours possible and havnt dived into whats happening with the IQ between the two options. If I’m the type of person that have applied these settings and find them not “popping enough” for gaming (personal preference), am I better to just move back to Game mode with High DC (with apparently a more detailed image?) rather than cranking up the colour on your settings to 55-58? Have you noticed this lost detail and softness of the image people are talking about in Standard HDR mode when compared to Game mode with DC on High?

If you have your input set as pc, from my understanding your input lag should be locked at 21ms which is the same as game mode. The advantage of running in pc input mode is that you will have a brighter HDR image when using the HDR standard preset as opposed to game device input type with game mode HDR.

OP, what made you change your og posting of game mode/ high DC over to PC Game mode on standard HDR when it appears on AV Forums that even with the latest firmware, HDR standard mode produces a very different looking image and lots of detail is lost. Looks like traditionally Standard HDR mode raises overall brightness, but detail is lost. Are you recommending most people an overall softer/ less detailed image in Standard HDR PC mode in favour of more brightness over more a detailed and slightly crushed blacks image in game mode with DC on high? Has this difference in detail between the two been proven?

I thought having DC on for HDR content was essential with these TVs to get actual HDR working properly and enables dynamic tone mapping.
