Fun Fact: a single Bitcoin transaction uses around 4 times the same energy as 100,00 transactions with VISA or MasterCard. If we replace the transactions of just VISA / MasterCard with Bitcoin transactions right now then we would immediately have a global power blackout because all of our produced energy world-wide wouldn't be enough to keep that Bitcoin payment system running.

Thread How much have you spent on the Epic Games Store?
The zero Euros shall remain exclusive to the EGS.There are many different reasons. Some are based on morals, some are based on economics and yeah, some are based on fanboyism. The discussions are now going on since over 2 years and I think you'll find enough threads to read the basic arguments. One reason for example is that they left the PC space 10 years ago with their president claiming that most PC players are pirates and that it is up to Facebook (yeah, that facebook) to save PC gaming because Epic won't and doesn't care.

Thread Valheim hits one million sales.
Yeah, that was what I was trying to say. The game was out as a free download in its original state on single Devs personal website and later on it was also pushed out on. While obviously much content of the $20 early-access version was still lacking - the original build already had SP / MP and most survival and exploration elements yet it never managed to gain much (or any) traction before. But that free version 2 years ago was already in an impressive good shape. I imagine this paid early-access version would also haven't gotten much traction without the current well-deserved Steam hype. I think Valheim is a perfect example for an awesome game that could have easily failed if not for its proper marketing, knowledge where its audience is hanging out and some luck.

Absolutely. It's just amazing that the first build of the game was out there for a while, completeley free to download from the private developers website but nobody really cared. Then (I guess) other Devs join the team, heavily re-work the original build and the new version becomes a million seller on Steam.

Imho PS1 is the only case that somewhat fits the topic. But the exclusives were also only just one of many parts that lead to its success. Maybe you can make the case for the NeoGeo as well if you reduce the definition of "market" to Arcade / Fighting games.

Twitter is indeed following the german hate-speech laws and is banning users and removing posts for the german user base if there's a violation. Because of this there are several alt-right accounts that are not viewable if you switch your twitter account location to germany. Every report gets also checked if it violates the Twitter ToS (resulting in a global ban) or if it violates the german laws (resulting in a germany-only ban):

You can't seperate Vikings from those cultures or treat them as a stand-alone tribe. You had basically the Germanic and/or Norse tribes (Celtics are also somewhat related) and people from those tribes who undertook raids were valled Vikingr. Going viking (the activity) was basically a job within those tribes like farmers. So if you insist that people (in this case) in Northern Europe are appropriating another culture when they wear Dreads or Elflocks because there are no literal Vikings around anymore while the cultures still exist then this makes you kinda sound ignorant on your own and invalidates a lot of your otherwise valid post.

Its not that rare that a game blows up way after its first release, just look at the likes of Minecraft, Factorio or Hollow Knight. You could even make the same argument for Fortnite. Left 4 Dead 2 just got a brand new campaign yesterday and the game is from 2009. Should it also be a GOTY contender if it blows up? No. Good thing is that we have the seperate category "best ongoing games" for games that fail to meet the GOTY requirements. Btw Mario 64 is actually somewhat a valid 2020 contender while Among Us isn't.

Rocket League uses its internal MMR system for ranked and unranked games. Let's say you have a MMR of 1000 then you'll get matched with other players with the same'ish MMR (980-1020) in ranked while you get matched with people between 800 and 1200 in unranked. Fully removing the underlying MMR system for unranked matches would result in matches that end with a score of 50 to 0. Afaik pretty much every (competitive) game use SBMM for both ranked und unranked modes to avoid those extreme pub stomps.

It's actually almost easier to troubleshoot or setup the PCs on stage than using consoles tho. Pros use backstage PCs to warm-up which has an SSD that can be unplugged and only has Windows on it with the specific game (and maybe additional required tools) on it. There they setup their personal configs like sensitivies, resolutions n stuff and once they head to the main stage they simply plug in that SSD on the stage-PC, boot it up and everything is ready to go.

CDKeys is a where they sell keys which they have sourced on their own (usually by buying the games in cheaper countries and scanning the keys). G2A / Kinguin a where anonymous users are selling keys that are often obtained in illegal ways in example by stealing or credit card fraud. Both variations are not authorized dealers but you can be sure that CDKeys are original keys while G2A/Kinguin is pretty often a straight-out stolen or pirated key. Imho the best way is to stick to authorized dealers tho so you don't have to wonder if something is still within the grey-market range or already completely illegal.

It's about the "." which is exactly what the EGS is trying to be. Also we know from cases where the Pubs decided to take the exclusivity deals (and pocket all money) without even consulting the Devs who were opposing such a decision. Taking the EGS deals also have more strings attached to them than just removing your choice of where and when you want to release your game. Also using the "creators have rights" argument while your company is known to steal from creators without crediting / paying them is kinda hypocritical, isn't it? You could easily replace "AppStore" and "Apple" with "EGS" and "Epic" in most of his tweets and the tweets would have the same truth to it.

Thread Apple will no longer allow users to sign into Epic Games accounts using “Sign In with Apple” as soon as September 11, 2020
You can pretty much exactly compare it like that. The Era user "EpicGames" decided to create a thread on gaming side to advocate piracy and tell users how to circument the security mechanism. Era bans that user called "EpicGames". This user goes to a judge and demands that a) they still should be able to post on Etcetera and b) post in all other topics on gaming side and c) that the ban gets lifted asap because the moderators have an unfair monopoly on Era and "EpicGames" should be free to post here whatever they want. While that user is demanding that their ban should be lifted this user also starts a public campaign to shame the Era moderators. Meanwhile Era decides to nuke the alt-account called "TotallyNotEpicGames" as well because it belongs to the same user. "EpicGames" then goes again to court claiming that developers will get harmed if their alt-account gets banned and the judge lifts this specific ban. And right now we're at the point were "TotallyNotEpicGames" is unbanned while "EpicGames" remains banned and also can't use features ("sign in with apple id") like the ability to send private messages anymore which were tied to their former Era account.

Thread How Steam's review system helped Size Five Games' Dan Marshall to sell Lair of the Clockwork God
I mean in the Fall Guys incident the game was completely unplayable for what ... 12 to 24 hours? And barely playable for 72 hours? Even tho the Devs were calling all kind of negative reviews - be it for the fact that ppl couldn't play the game they bought or other criticsm like bugs or lack of content - simply "Review Bombing!" and rallied their players to positive-review-bomb I still believe that you should be able to voice your opinion if a game is not playable at all. There are several ways in which Steam is trying to combat actual review bombing like they give release-day reviews "less weight" or if there is a flood of negative reviews within a small time period then there's a warning and they aren't counted at all. Long term reviews will always have a higher impact on the overall score than reviews made 5 minutes after the release of a game. I really hope that Valve can find ways to improve that review-bombing prevention even further more including potential positive-abuse like what Fall Guys did. People usually trust the Steam reviews and manipulation should be prohibited in both directions. Btw I doubt that "I haven't been able to play this game for a whole 5 minutes WAAAAAAAA negative review" thing is close to beeing true. Look at for example the reviews for Dota which has often several unplaned downtimes a day lasting between 10 minutes and 2 hours. Doesn't seem that negative:

Could you explain how this is supposed to work? We know that Epic uses a single Developer account for their own games (Fortnite) AND for their Unreal Engine and this account might get "banned" because Epic breached its contract with Fortnite. Restricting access to the Unreal Engine is some kind of collateral damage because the UE development is tied to account which was used for the Fortnite infringement. How do you "ban half an account"? That graph is somewhat missleading tho. Look at Steam and you'll see that it's 30% or less. While EGS is 12% with hidden fees added on top of that. For example the customers have to pay the transaction fees for many payment methods which make up to 8%. Or Developers have to pay 2% for the "support a creator" program. And the EGS is operating at immense losses so it's questionable how sustainable their 12%+X cut really is. Thread Apple will terminate all Epic Games dev accounts and tool access on August 28th, Epic filing to halt the termination
There are different scenarios what might happen if Epic wins this lawsuit and one scenario is basically that Sony / MS / Nintendo will stop producing new consoles because it's not worth it anymore to spend billions on creating a platform for customers (R&D, Hardware, Infrastructure, Marketing) while you're also forced to let other companies use your platform for free. Those other companies will either sell the same software for less (because they don't have the expenses for running the platform they are using) or lower the perceived value of the platform due to low software standards or by simply bringing malware into that ecosystem. There's no reason to expect that console manufacturers will continue building consoles if they have to make all investments and bear all risks while other companies will be able to rake in profits on that playerbase without having any costs / risks while the console manufacturer won't see a single penny from those profits. It doesn't mean that this scenario has to occur if Epic wins but console manufacturers are definately sitting in the same boat with apple this time.

Beeing able to play an (cheap ~$100) instrument on a basic level (no lessons required - youtube tutorials are sufficient) gives you a better feeling for the theory stuff and you'll notice many similarities between songs like combination of notes and scales or chord progressions. I still remember the infamous staff post which stated that it's perfectly fine to believe cancelling event attendances due to Covid is just an overreaction or an excuse (because the Dev is trying to hide something) and that these opinions need to get tolerated on Era. There should have been a clear hard line stating that downplaying Covid or spreading misinformation is a no-go here.

One "issue" might be that the phrase Ching--Chang-Chong is also one of the many names in german for the rock paper scissor game. Other names are either a direct translation or Schnick-Schnack-Schnuck, Fli-Fla-Flu or Klick-Klack-Kluck which all follow the same kind of vowel progression within random words. But you should always avoid to use that phrase because it can get a racist undertone pretty quickly or is racist to start with. They always use some kind of wordplay for their products but using this phrase to promote asian cousine is mind boggling stupid. Reishunger usually has a pretty good reputation on that regards.

No, you said (quote) "back up your games offline". You can obviously simply backup any of your games automatically. You've also argued that you can not install a game from a website which is incorrect because there are clickable Steam links like this If you tried to argue that you can not manually download some game files then you probably never tried to add a non-Steam game to your library. Steam also still provides some "offline installers" btw. Thats why you can buy a PC game in retail which has a Steam logo on the box art.

Because we already know that the Steam Workshop and BakkesMod won't be working anymore once RL "leaves" Steam. While you're a strong defender of this move you still surely know how widley the use of Workshop maps and especially BakkesMod are prevalentand that the removal of those features will probably have a massive negative impact on the PC RL community. The 30% increase in "rightwing extreme people" that you're referring to comes from the fact that in 2019 a part of the AfD (around 7000+ ppl) got counted as rightwing extreme. The 3 big differnces between Rock and (its subgenre) Metal are: Tempo, Rhythm and whether or not you use Power Chords. Those main differences vary from song to song but in general ACDC is clearly on the side of beeing a (hard) Rock band. Other differences are that ACDC uses mostly the pentatonic scale with low distortion but high gains which gives them their typical clean but lound sound. Metal is mostly modal harmonics with huge distortion. ACDC is also using mostly a blues chord progression with 4/4 time signature which is pretty uncommon in metal. And they have always used a variation of the G-Chord which is called "Rock-G" because it either sounds better or Angus Young was kinda lazy cause it's easier to play. Probably both.

As soon as those claims were erased most Streamers went back to stream protected music. Guess the chance is 50:50 if this wave will get revoked again or Streamers get penalised. Thread ELI5: Why is packet loss so much greater for wifi than a wireless controller and why can't we have devices that create a "wireless ethernet"?
"Wireless" is just short for the WLAN technology (Wireless Lan Area Network) and "WiFi" is just a US brand name for a specific WLAN variation. Both terms describe basically the same thing. What you call "wireless controller" are actually bluetooth controllers tho. Bluetooth is nice if you have exactly 1 device that wants to connect to exactly 1 other device in a close range. Quick set up, low bandwith and range, unreliable and just a single connection. WLAN is the other way around: takes longer to set up, higher bandwith, more stable and allows many parallel connections. Your controller feels more reliable because that's just your console + controller that talk to each over a tiny distance while WiFi can basically include the whole world.

There are many realities where the code is 122 and you happen to play Booker in one of those during your playtrough. There are also infinite other realities with other codes. The #122 indicates that "your" run is the successful one in this reality constellation and also that there had to be 121 fails before that. It's basically a broad hint to the core concept of the game and I'm surprised how many people seem to not have noticed that even tho this concept gets repeated a lot in the game.

Thread So the people making fun of Bioshock infinite puzzle just did not get it? ENDING SPOILER
The code does change because each reality has its own random one while there is no connection between the different codes in each reality. It just turns out that you play in a reality where you already failed 121 times which created the possibilty of having the 122th run. I think the Luteces do often refer to your earlier attempts and how they used everything they've learned to help you in your final playtrough as Booker. It's basically ... luck that you happen to play in this specific reality where you can finish the game / your mission on your 122nd try. There are also infinite realities where you will fail on attempt 122 because you've either already eliminated the problem or might never do so at all. I guess people need to take the game title more literal.

You are confusing Eurobonds with the new idea of Corona-Bonds. Right now every EU country can access the and get funds from the ) as well. The ECB has overwritten its deficits critera due to the crisis which means that every EU country can get those cheap funds - no matter their financial status - and also that there won't be "men in black" as you call it. Also note that all EU countries are liable together for these funds. It is basically what the Eurobonds idea from 10 years ago wanted to be. But you are talking about the new concept of "Corona-Bonds". The countries are arguing about the way how to fund these bonds. Basically one side wants to access funds without the liability of having to pay them back while the other side wants to have financial regulations when they have to share (or pay off) the debt from others. Also the "richer" countries would have to pay higher interests for their own loans on top of that. But it's mostly about the disagreement of whether or not there should be a basic liability if you take a loan. tl;dr: the main difference between Eurobonds and Corona-Bonds (right now) is that you have to pay back the first one someday while you could #yolo the other one.

The one argument for wearing a mask when you're healthy is the placebo effect which makes you more aware of the situation and causing you to (potentially) touch your face less. But wearing a mask (while you're healthy) on the other hand does actually increase your chances of getting sick. Calling it a "government narrative" sounds tinfoil hat'ish.

Cables and Switches can be the limiting factor but usually it's more about something called Peering Points (aka "uplink"). Imagine this as a smart Switch which ties several smaller networks together so they can exchance information which each other. Now there are large global Peering Points with a capacity of several terabytes bandwith that are still under-worked right now. But there are also smaller uplinks for example you have one somewhere in your road which sends your data to a larger one somewhere in your district or city. These smaller ones aren't build to handle the current traffic and might cause a bottleneck. All of those smart switches use a software we'll call "routing tables" for now and they need to consantly look up those tables for every bit you send / receive to understand which other network they have send that data to. If there's too much data a the same time then those machines can start to lag like if you just openend chrome with 5 million active tabs. Reducing the traffic equals reducing the chrome tabs. If it's lagging then you have to reduce the most demanding tabs / traffic for now. tl;dr: the global internet can be fine and have vast amounts of free bandwith - but the data might not reach your endpoint and vice-versa if there's a bottleneck.

We are talking about multiplayer games. Obviously you can manually modify your singleplayer game files without having to relying on the Steam Workshop. Thread Borderlands 3 coming to Steam March 13th
There's a significant difference between SP / MP when you're talking about mods. If you want to join a modded MP game then 3 parties need to have the exact same mods and versions: you, the other players, the server instance. Steam Workshop is checking if you have all required mods installed and will download missing mods, update mods if any instance has a higher version, provides parity checks and automatically downloads dependencies for mods and provides full mod packages. There's a reason why pretty much every MP game on Steam that provdes modding also uses the Steam Workshop because otherwise it would technically not be manageable for most games and users and become a disaster. Multiplayer and modding is more than just "many singleplayer games combined".

Some PC games are not compatible to each other depending on the store where you bought it. For example ARK Survival Evolved from the Microsoft Store and Steam are not compatible to each other because the Steam version supports mods while the MS version doesn't. There can technically exist "weaker" versions of a game when you bought it from a "weaker" store with less functionality. Same might apply to EGS games like Satisfactory once they release on Steam with modding.

Most of the Dota players prefer to have a good balance and just 1 or 2 new heroes a year instead of the constant new OP champion spam that happens in League with ~7 releases a year. If you look at at the Dota pro scene then you'll see that usually around 95% of the hero pool is either getting picked or banned during tournaments because every hero has its place. If that new player decides to play an important position then you know that you'll definately lose the game, lose MMR (rank) and lose 30 or 60 minutes of your lifetime because somebody else made a selfish and kinda stupid decision. If anyone is looking for a game or motivation to exercise then this one is probably recommendable to everyone. If you're just looking to play some RPG game but don't care about fitness then you might skip it. There are very few negative aspects of the game like the way how your exercise time is getting tracked, which is way too low and therefore causing your calorie counter to be too low as well or that you have to put on the strap / ring even if you only want to get your multitask bonus. Those are only the basic items. Before the changes you had different ways of getting a special item of your choice: buy keys to open chests, buy the item from the Steam Market, have it gifted to you, trade with others. Now your options are: buy credits for $4,99 or $9,99 or $24,99 or $49,99. Also there is no way to earn a single credit without spending real money. Oh, and also of course you aren't able to sell, gift or trade your item later on for anything else. All that happened was a removal of choices and now you're forced to spend money (exclusively) in the Rocket League store if you want anything. And the prices are mostly stupid. Is there a single item that didn't become way more expensive? I know that they halfed pretty much all prices after the community outcries, some prices went even down by 70%-80%, but it seems like everything still cost way more now.

Interesting that Myth was the first popular PC game in 95 but after that games like Half Life, Unreal (Tournament), Quake, Civilization, Doom, Diablo, Baldur's Gate and so on are nowhere to be found. Next PC only title was Sims in 2000, followed by Warcraft 3 in 2002 and after that the US missed out again on big titles like Half Life 2 and World of Warcraft. Feels kinda random.

A forecast is based on a) the budget you're planning with and b) your defined goal. You can't create a forecast without planning your budget or goals. If you drastically change one of the two parameters mid-year but still compare your result to the original forecast: that factor becomes pretty much useless. But anyway, again, let's not derail this.

... sigh. "60% higher than their initial forecast" is a statement that you should not base a discussion on about whether the strategy was successful or not. Their initial forecast was made with the plan of buying only few exclusives, handing out around 15 free games and having no deep sales or discounts. If you change your strategy mid year and increase your budget by a lot - you should really expect to outmatch your original forecast, don't you think?

These are the different sockets in the EU but note that Red, Green and Teal are compatible to the blue standard. Epic should add a cheap PR spin like "revenue is 60% more than our initial forecast" so people will immediately think those numbers must be great then. Some posters will absolutely ignore the fact that their initial forecast was based on their initial store strategy. A strategy which included having no discounts, no coupon codes, no deep sales, going for only a handfull of exclusives and handing out around 15 free games to kickstart the store. Once the EGS is running fine on its own with that initial strategy, like in april or may 2019, they will stop throwing money into the EGS and still reach their intial forecast. WOW! They got 60% more?

Thread If games are going to be 4K60fps then "next-gen" is just a continuation of this gen, with a hardware refresh.
Setting up the code for a real-time rendered game, real-time rendered video or pre-rendered video are 3 totally different things. I guess we all know what pre-rendering is. What's the difference between real-time rendering for a game or a video to show off graphics? Take a look at something called "Demoscene". This here is also real-time graphic, not pre-rendered and only 64kb in size (including the sound btw): Or this clip which is almost 15 years old, real-time, 177kb in size and runs on GeForce 7000 series: You can't go the route of "oh we have these and these TF numbers, and with amount X TF we can achieve such a storm video, so we should have games with the same graphic fidelity because we have 2 times the TF that were required for that video!". It doesn't work that way. You can achieve high fidelity graphics for videos by relying on algorithm, vectors, procedural generations, fancy stuff like that. It does look good, but it's often not feasible to transfer those techniques into a game.

Thread What do you want from next-gen games?
It's either too much or you basically want to play an interactive movie that's probably controlled by QTEs only. I don't think there's another way to control something like that in your clip. We had QTE only games like Road Avanger since the 90s but having such a game loop in a AAA game would be a huge step back in terms of gameplay. A new gen won't give you some kind of magic omnipotent power to control games in a completely new way. The tech progress that's usually the easiest to spot for players are frames per second, resultions and "shininess" of textures in games (there's a reason why most launch titles are shiny af). Other features are often harder to spot like the iInheritance tech in Shadow of Mordor when you were climbing those ranks within the orcs. That was pretty impressive from a technical point of view, but not so much if you just played the game.

Thing is that it's not about "like two specific contexts" because the Iron Cross is the symbol of germany, even from a time before germany existed. Basically the symbol of the german state is the "Bundesadler" (german eagle) and the symbol of the german / prussian idea is the Iron Cross (with "germania" beeing the symbol of the german people). It's featured in some historic and modern buildings like the Brandenburg Gate, public agencies and civil services:Saying that everything related to the Iron Cross must be Nazi stuff is simply wrong. I guess the current Sales / CCU would be much higher if it wasn't for those release shenanigans. Titles like this will still sell well over a longer period of, lets say 5 years. But the amount of buyers that bought it on release-day without a discount is much lower than with a normal release. People that already waited for the Steam release can also wait for high discounts. Volume wise it will do fine, revenue wise you'll notice a huge dent. I expect the same to happen with Borderlands 3. Edit for comparison: it took RDR2 two weeks to get a 20% discount. Playstation is using (and has extended) the server farms which were built and used from Gaikai. So they basically have their own network where they provide the required resources on-demand for the sole purpose of powering the Playstation services. On the other hand we have Microsoft that relies on its Azure cloud where you have constant global overcapacities (not because they have problems selling their resources but because the cloud is simply that big). It's easier to keep niche services running if you have "free" or "un-used" capacities within your network. Other companies have different variations of network architectures like Valve that relies on renting capacities from 3rd party datacenters or Acti-Blizz that has a mix of own server farms and something called "colocation".

Server cost (ie. barebones or "cloud") aren't the big obstacle in such cases and it's usually more about support demand and personal costs. PSN is also basically the company called "Gakai" and they are usually only providing enogh "server ressources" to meet the demand of Playstation users. Microsoft on the other hand has the "Azure" network and is usually looking to fill its excess capacities with additional offerings. Those Azure capacities are available anyway so it's better to use them for stuff like older multiplayer games instead of not utilizing them at all because those ressources got paid for already.

The game also has enough content that easily lasts 3 months if you play on a daily basis until you finished 100%. Probably much longer. Chances are that you're going to keep playing this game because you simply want to, not because you have to.

Ideally you want to have a high intensity, means many exercises in a short period of time. It's better to give it all and last maybe 20, 40 or 60 minutes than playing the game in some kind of lazy mode for hours with long breaks. You lose most weight in the kitchen but this game can easily help you to lose some more weight, get you in shape, work on your mobility and tone your muscles. The big muscle growths will happen during your weight lifting in the gym (where you should also always do some cardio and stretching btw).

One thing I find really interesting is that appearently everyone plays the game in a very unique way. You can compare your stats online for every exercise with other people in your same age group (dunno if you need NSO for that). Playtime wise I'm in the top ~10% of all other players within my age group and I'm even in the global top10 with some exercises while with other exercises I barely reach the upper half of all players in my group. It's pretty nice to see how people are focusing on different moves.

Thread Nintendo begins trial to defend their "right" to deny pre-order refunds, German and Norwegian government accuse of violating EU consumer law
This defense only works within the EU laws if Nintendo explicitly states that you as a customer will abdictate your rights of cancellation once you activly use the that you've paid for. You also have to click some kind of checkbox or button and just having that statement written somewhere is not enough. The customer needs to activly consent before using the . I would argue that people pre-order a game because they want to play that game. That makes "playing the game" the service you're paying for while "downloading the game" is just a necessity to access the service of the product. Nobody will pay a fee just to download random files that they can't use or that don't work. It becomes evevn worse if you can't download your pre-order yet because Nintendo can't argue that the download is supposed to be a part of the pre-paid service. TL;DR: Nintendo is toast.

Additional stuff: the ring is way more sturdy than you would think and it is not a cheap plastic toy for kids. It seems that it has some more resistance than the average Pilates ring you can buy. Best gamified exercise that was created until now. I guess the main difference between RingFit Adventure and other exercise games is that you play this one because you want to and not because you have to. Its probably also the only exercise game that can actually reach high intensity levels, if you want to, cause it's using a real piece of sport equipment - the Pilates ring. You can hit the gym 4 times a week and still get trashed by the game on the highest difficulty levels. But you can also be a couch potato and play it like a boss. And you can scratch like a DJ in the home screen by smacking and pushing the RingCon in different positions. Game is full of neat elements like that.

Difficulty range goes from 1 to 30. In the beginning the game asks you for your age, how much you exercise compared to others in that age group and how intensive you want your training to be. Then it will calculate a matching difficulty for you but you can re-calibrate or change it manually any time. Most obvious change is the amount of reps you have to do, but there are several smaller changes as well like the duration that you have to hold poses (like sitting low with squats). You notice the intensity difference between lvl20 or lvl25.

Levels / worlds vary in sizes a lot so you shouldn't take that as a reference. You can use the burnt calorie counter oder ingame timer as a goal for your sessions even tho these numbers are usually very low estimations but they still work as a point of reference. I guess the only recommendation for the game is to not cheat the game (like just moving the ring instead of doing the real exercise) and don't cheat yourself (going with a difficulty level that is too easy / avoiding specific exercises). I'd say that having a difficulty level that is a tad too high is probably better than if the game is too easy. There's no need to rush the game or to progress as quickly as possible. Also we know that the game is much (much!) longer than we expected.

Other than that the game actually reminds you to take breaks or stop the training if you run out of energy. It even encourages you to not play at all if you don't feel well. The game asks you sometimes on startup how your sleep was, how you feel, if anything is sore and might recommend you to skip training. It's basically cheering on you if you exercise but also encourages you to take your time and don't overdo it.

Because of liability. Overclocking your monitor does always hurt the hardware to some degree. But we're talking about something like your screen has a lifespan of exactly 10 years and overclocked its lifespan shrinks down to 9 or 9 1/2 years. Also the additional Hz that you can get by overclocking does highly depend on the individual monitor. Within the same model series some screens could reach for example 168 Hz and others might only reach 163 Hz due to slight differences within the used hardware for each product. Overclocking in general is mostly usefull in the range of 60 Hz - 90 Hz. Above that? Nah.

Thread If something sells well, why should I discount it?
That's not an outlier, its just a different variation of the same old tactic. In this case you force the market to keep the prices of your products high (creating additional "fictional value" by doing so) which causes that people will tend to wait for the few special sales like black friday, easter and holiday sales. During these sales Nintendo will get an immense boost in sold unites. They are basically creating artificially imposed shortfalls which will be covered during these peak sale periods. Nintendo could easily offer regular discounts and that would give a small boost to their average sales but they would also lose their biggest sale potential during those special sales. Nintendo isn't a better company or in a better position than others, it just comes with additional fictional value created by a marketing strategy. Also simply throwing a "20% OFF!" badge onto your product during a special sale is often much cheaper than paying for regular marketing.

Been playing several days now on difficulty 26 and I think the game is absolutely awesome. But I have 2 complains and I hope Nintendo might fix that somehow: a) you should be able to either rotate the camera view or rotate the trainer (is he also called flexi in the international version?). I think seeing the exercise from different angles might help some people to get a better form and to correct themselfes if they - for example - don't bend over far enough. Also the trainer and your in-game character have sometimes slightly different postures. b) the calorie counter is almost useless. It's nice to see that number growing but it isn''t really based on reality. I guess the real calorie consumption is probably 3 times as high as the game tells you. I'm aware that - for example with squats - it only counts the calories burned within your legs and ignores that you have an upper body and afterburn effects during breaks. You basically stop existing once your're in the menu, pressing smoothies or stop moving. But still: seeing 200 calories while the reality is more in the 500-700 calorie range feels too low.

I'm currently playing on difficulty level 27 (out of 30) and yeah ... game is tough. But also fun. Thinking of lowering the difficulty a bit because it might be too much for me and I've surely underestimated the intensity of the pilates ring training. I'd say the exercise value mostly depends on how you're going to play the game. Because you can either do your (lets say) 25 Squats in a quick manner that might push you to your limit or take your time and maybe even take a minute break after the first 15 squats and then finish last 10. I don't think that there's any kind of punishment if you take your time or if you go in hard. The game is easily a good addition to your exercise and can even replace some full cardio sessions. Strength wise it won't do much if you're already lifting.

Nah, EA had nothing to do with that. BF2 used GameSpy for its multiplayer services (like many other non-Steam games did). Edit: GameSpy wasn't providing the "servers you've played on" but the whole backend infrastructure that was needed to run everything.

We had a thread about their PR statement and why / how it was incredibly vague. Like "BL3 is also 2K's fastest selling game of all time" is not true. It is 2K's fastest selling *PC title *within-a-period-of-5-days (*also not the most overall sold PC game of 2K). And they never cleared up if they counted the EGS guaranteed-sales as a sale to a customer. It seems like they did that. There are some PC exclusive games that dwarf all console games like League, Dota2, CSGO, WoW, Sims. And then there are other games where 50%+ of the player base is on PC like PUBG, Destiny2, R6S, Minecraft. I mean ... League alone has probably more players than the total of all the console sales combined (last numbers: 2017 with 100 active million players). And there are other asian PC games that are even bigger than League. Seems like a far stretch to suggest that these most popular games in the world are either "niche" or that people otherwise wouldn't like those PC games.

You realize that you still need a PC with (in your case) Steam running on it, own the game on Steam and then you can re-broadcast it to another device. Right? PS Now allows you to play Bloodborne without a) owning a PS4 and b) owning the game for that system. That's the main difference.

That was because the PS3 was "Cell" CPU based and emulating that with normal "PC servers" isn't worth it cost/performance wise. Literally stacking PS3s on top of each other was easier and cheaper. PS4 is x86 (aka "PC") CPU based and therefore runs on normal server hardware. It's much easier to use virtualization and like 1 TB of RAM instead of stacking PS4s that only have 8 GB.

Point remains that games, beeing available on PS Now as well, aren't PS4 exclusive titles but "only" PlayStation exclusive. You can dislike PC as much as you want to - when even Sony calls it "PlayStation Gaming on PC" then it might actually be PS gaming on the PC.

Thread Which system has currently the best exclusives?
Quick! Someone tell Sony that PS Now is only a streaming service and you don't actually play that game on PC because some Era user said so. Better tag Google as well so they know that they aren't working on a platform and buying exclusives for Stadia is dumb because Stadia isn't a thing. People have really a broken understanding of platform exclusivity or the word "exclusivity" on its own. Like Bloodborne is a PlayStation exclusive game, but not a PS4 exclusive game because PS Now is a part of the PlayStation eco system. It's not that complicated. Same like BOTW: it's not exclusive to the Switch because it also exists on the WiiU - but it's a Nintendo exclusive.

Right now you're still on the beginners level and it doesn't really matter if you play other competitive games at this stage or not. But ESL is reminding their employees to not use the companies official SocialMedia accounts for posting their personal political opinions but to use their personal accounts instead.I'd say its a pretty big difference if something gets framed as "warns staff not to discuss hong kong protests" or "remember to not use the companies SocialMedia accounts to discuss the hong kong protests but use your private accounts instead". A lot of people have access to all the social media channels within the ESL and reminding your staff to use these accounts only for company related stuff doesn't seem to be such a big deal. The message might seem kinda awful in context of the current Blizzard situation, but on it's own it is just a normal internal guideline without censorship.

Thread CEO of world’s largest e-sports firm ESL warns staff not to discuss Hong Kong protests
Yeah it is clearly worded. ESL Employees = Employees. ESL Team members = Employees + Staff. Simple as that. "Members of teams of the ESL" does absolutely NOT refer to players of esport teams. I have no idea how you can get such a take. Nobody on earth refers to esport organisations as "teams of the ESL" within or outside of tournaments. ESL Teams are Production Team, SocialMedia Team, Marketing Team, Event Team, IT Team and so on. Thought that was kinda obvious to be honest. Your perception would only work if the ESL actually owns all those esport teams but they don't own any. Esport organisations in general don't belong to any esport association, only exception are somewhat the Overwatch League teams. I still don't get the idea why you left out the most important part of the statement, but I guess there's some kind of misunderstanding. Telling your employees to not use the SocialMedia accounts of the company for private political postings still doesn't seem like a big deal.

Dota has a lot more active items than League and while you have 2 additional spells in LoL (I mean ... does the TP scroll in Dota count as a spell?) you can actually play in Dota with a 10 slotted hero, while League still maxes out at 6. I mean LoL doesn't have the whole deny-stuff, be it creeps, teammate denies or self-denies. It doesn't have a turn radius for heroes at all, it doesn't have different reaction speeds for heroes, no animation-attack-walk-canceling stuff. No highgrounds, no line visions within the jungle and the possibility to kite specific angles in the jungle, you don't really queue your items and skill executions in League while Dota is pretty much queued all the way. League only has Macro management afaik but no Micro. And that's just stuff that comes off the top of my head. Look: League is a great game but it is a simplier game in the regards of mechanical skills required and mechanical skills that are feasible.

He had also some follow up tweets onto that which he already deleted because they were false. This original one is also incorrect because a) the Steam margin would be 80% and not 70%, b) Stadia and GMG also take 30% (so 30% must be some kind of Schroedingers-Cut, good and bad at the same time) and c) probably the moneybag stuff. If this decision was about margins / cuts then the game would not release on GreenManGaming and Stadia (both take the exact same cut like Steam) or the HumbleStore (25%) or GameStop (no idea). There is not a single valid line of reasoning to explain this situation without the common Epic tactic to moneyhat and delay a Steam release because that's what literally already happened with other titles.

For example the Ubisoft games, Metro Exodus, Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds. I'm sure the overall list is pretty long. Its known that Epic paid that these titles get removed from Steam and called them "EGS exclusive" (or "co-exclusive" in the case of Ubi).

Destiny isn't a Activision title anymore and it's also the 4th most played game on Steam right now. I was just wondering why he would use Activision as an example why big publishers will not release on 3rd party stores but only on their own platform + EGS instead while its simply factually incorrect because Activision still release on 3rd party stores like Steam. The other example (EA) is also kinda ... not fitting because they left 3rd party stores way before the EGS was a thing. Edit: seems like the original Tweet got deleted

I really really wish people would stop posting inaccurate information A) the Steam margin is 80% for RDR2, not 70% as stated B) Stadia takes a 30% cut - wouldn't make sense to release it on Stadia without a delay if we follow that logic C) maybe the moneybag from Epic has something to do with the Steam delay, who knows

Thread Tencent: The Invisible Investor With More Reach Than You Might Think
Tencent is pretty powerful and usually wins if they start to flex their muscles, like when the PUBG Corp had to drop its copyright infringement lawsuit against Epic due to them. I think Tencent doesn't own any shares in PUBG Corp / Bluehole but they bought the license for the chinese mobile version and this was already a powerful enough leverage to force the lawsuit drop against Epic.

I have a Sex Pistols band shirt so ... yeah. Feels like the Union Jack is still an iconic symbol within the punkrock genre even tho it's used in a different way than intended.

A lot of the Destiny2 re-launch feels like a bottleneck situation (like main authentication / hub nodes are overloaded) while the overall capacity isn't really the main issue. Probably their loadbalancer wasn't working as intended. Anyway, just wanted to note that Jasons take that companies have to buy and own dedicated servers - and pay for them even when they're not used anymore after launch - is absolutely outdated by some years.

Thread What sequel is the worst offender of "blatant asset re-use"?
Dota is marked as "controversal" because it kinda succeeded Warcraft 3. But not as WC4 but as the sequel genre to WC3. Also assets are more than just graphic models or sprites. If you copy / re-use a complete world then that world is also an asset. Seems like the common definition for assets are: 2D sprites, 3D models, missions, levels, areas, voice, key framing, motion capture, sound effects, music and special effects.

Thread What if voice commands are an in-game control option next gen?
I think that would only work if you have a game that you can control by only using your voice. If you already need to use the controller to play a game, then why would you say something like "Open the map" when you could also simply press the button on the controller that you're already holding in your hands. People are lazy and saying a sentence is more "exhausting" than pressing the button next to the one you've already pressed. Could be an interesting concept for games that have no predetermined pacing like most Puzzle or Point&Click games. Otherwise: naaah.

It feels like Final Fantasy (10 and 10-2, 11 and 14) and Zelda (LTTP>ALBW, OOT>MM) are the worst "offenders" but all sequels turned out to be pretty good. As a controversal suggestion: WC3 - Dota

Thread Borderlands 3 sales summary - 5 million sold in 5 days, 70% digital, Highest selling 2K title on PC
Like when the Handsome Collection was on sale for PC everywhere for like $2 and everyone bought it? The thing is: the whole sales statement is incredibly vague on many levels. We don't even know if they counted actual EGS sales or the guaranteed sales by Epic. It would make sense to count the guaranteed - but not actual - sales because 2K refers to their numbers as sell-in (which indicates that the copies didn't get sold to customers) and it would also explain the high amount of 70% digital sales. The user asked for another possible window and yeah, there were additional windows for possible selling records even after the first release. Also nobody is talking about "launch month" but we're talking about this specific 5-days period. You're welcome to join the discussion if you want to.

It's highly unlikely that the Publisher isn't live tracking the sales of a release like BL3. Also crafting a PR message with sales numbers does not take 6 days. So yes, it is really strange that they - for some reason - have decided to not include the sales data after that 5th day.

It's possible that the guaranteed sales are included within that 5 million number because 2k explicitly refers to it as a "sell-in" number. Not a "sold to customers" number. There are some reasons to count those "sales" and some reasons to ignore them. Basically: we don't know. If you're looking for the most posivite PR then you would include the guaranteed sales obviously.
