i had the same reception in straya, coming over when i was in my teen and having to assimilate to the australian high school life really pushed my english acclimatization swiftswift but i didn't... like, it's like when they praised me for my english it was always with a hint of as if other asians couldnt measure up like i could so i never miss this reaction, personally cuz i thought like maybe other asian immigrants didn't come over with as much privilege that i did, like the so-called 'boat people' that come over from poor neighbouring asian countries... they probly didn't have the luxury of being enrolled in australian high school, and stuff like that but fwiw, kudos to you and your sister for picking up the language so fast! :D (for me, i still can't quite acquire the strayan accent > __ <)

yeah, i think i said it would be nice if girl groups can show off more than just delicate style and boys can be appreciated for gracefulness...... personally, i think i've said this? in the previous post? i certainly dont wanna put uphold status quo of pedestaling one gender norms over others. although asian men are already under fire for being perceived as not manly enough outside of kpop sphere .............. :thinking emoji: so difficult > __ < oh nothing wrong at all with sensual choreo, just not into it as a form of aesthetics since it seems absolutely awash and everywhere in terms of music videos (kpop and western pop and other pop, and just music videos in general) so it's something i kind of find a bit boring (personally) but it's fine if women (and men) are empowered and wants to do sensual contents. ofc it's less fine if it's imposed on them by companies :3 i do like taemin :> he's neat~ . . . . . hmmmmmmmm imma step away for now i think probably kind of made some ripples that aren't very happies vibes in here and all of a sudden and all that, and im sorry if i did . __ . i didn't mean to make curlybrain talk here~ i'll just continue to fangirl kpop quietly :> thank you all for the discussions, you are all really nice o/

Yeah, I wish can see the actual event recording, cuz they seemed to take the choreo seriously! I do think the choreo for both boys and girls groups should converge more, cuz gender norms limit girls' abilities to show off that they don't have to be delicate and dolly all the time, and they also limit boys' abilities to show off that there is grace and elegance in a boy's body and movement too, just like in the Black Swan video ... the lead dancer is male but he is graceful! and the girls background dancers didn't have to move differently than the boys background dancers, and i think this agender approach to dance choreography would be good for both genders...? Maybe some roots of the problems is that the choreo for girls and boys are super-gendered, so for me, the girls' choreo seems always to be focus on hand movements around their face and then around their body shapes. Not ALL girl choreos are like this, of course. I found CrayonPop's bar bar bar VERY likeable and VERY cute. But when the choreo feels (to me) as if they are basically trying to sell the girls' bodies, I switched off . __ . Is it bad? Imma look up Lee Daehwi and the other names you dropped later at home when I can yt freely :> Thank you for the rec/namedrops <3

has delphi saw bts' coming of age cover? i think they covered the original girl-centric choreography dancey with respect and appreciation, and though there was no full formal recording of the two BTS boys unveiling it at the event (only potato video from fans), i think they didn't make fun of it and was seriously practicing the moves for days to show homage to the original artist who is a woman :> And they didn't do the dance in skirts/wigs/feminine get-up either, which, I agree, also rags on my nerves when I see it happening > ___ < this is the video i think but im at work so i could only guess from the title/google search thumbnail as actual yt links are blocked at my office (i have to yt from phone):

hmm this is all gud~ i think i can appreciate that such space created by girls for girls, but i do think the influences of the companies that run the groups (either gender) is very strong and i admit i have a bit of jaded lens in this i like cute stuff too :> cuz i guess im naturally very girly idk and growing up in asia, there is a pressure to be harmonious and softsoft? when was in high school, i remember the boys were into games and sports and the girls would be spending our money into ...........idols and idols merch XD; it formed a very distinct and memorable part of my life :D as teenage girls we realized that WE were the dominating consumer force, it gave a lot of energy in the fandoms im bisexual myself, though more lesbian lately since i've been dating another woman for a decade now, so i can appreciate (and wants to appreciate) if KPOP is indeed growing to cater for less male gaze :) it's a hope! hope is good <3 thank you for inputs, delphi it's always nice to see how other people experience things :> opens up the world * ___ *~

Thread Can people shove up fireworks up their ass?
2018 is barely starting and here we are.... There's a lot of people with pets and there's a lot of people without pets. A little empathy both ways are good. Thanks. On topic: I am a person with pets and though pets can have a troublesome night during fireworks on new year's eve, it's also an occasion that could have been anticipated. It's the sudden fireworks and/or local neighbours' lighting strange explosive and loud stuff that's more of a problem for my household. Other than that, I keep my pets indoors and calmed on NYE, because I understand that my neighbours are not out to actually be troublesome. They are just people who wants to have fun and be merry.

I will take it on faith that you are not actually defending child pornography (even fictional ones), but on this forum we take the hard line stance that it is better to be safe than to be sorry when it comes down to matters that might endanger children's wellbeing. Confirmed studies or not, do you not agree that it is better not to perpetuate the normalization of thoughts of child sexualization? At least on this forum, please make sure that you read our ToS and FAQ closely on matters that you may be unclear on. The links are available at the top banner of every page.

<3 As for being 'connected' with chineseness, for lack of better word, i am very much still feel connected to my asianness, because i wasn't born in australia. i suffer terribly at wanting to 'pass' or in a way, to be treated like a white person, for many, many, many years. there was a period of time that i actively made it a point of pride if my relatives back in asia would chide me for being 'so white'. i think my brain was a bit of a mess. (maybe still is a hot mess even now? :thinking emoji:) Anyway, i grew up (somehow) and now I am coming around and I feel a great deal of shame and regret for that period of time. And I realize I can never wash off the Asian parts in me .... OFF me. It is a part of me and it is a part that I am actually have always been proud of, despite the mindfuckery that I was doing to myself. I still consume and watch and read a lot of media contents produced in Asia, since I grew up on it. I remember fondly watching the series of the Condor Heroes with my dad and I still gush about it whenever I recollect its details in my mind. I still go home at least once a year, but very likely twice within a 12 month period, and still live and breathe the cultural atmospheres of life in asia. So, one leg in each, so to speak. I do feel the frustration of being an asian person in a predominantly white people's country. For example, my ex-boss, a white australian dude, thought it was a great idea for him to celebrate his 15th wedding anniversary in the traditional chinese garb (the ) and he shared the photos with me because he thought he was being a cool dude. Well, he was my boss so I didnt flip out but I was really irked internally. I felt that it was kinda insensitive and that he was making me feel as if he could partake on my culture and ornamentalize our icons. ........(im still mad now if i think about this XD;) but then I realize he probably have no idea of what he was doing that he was trying to show me that he wanted to relate to me and this was his way to show that he was appreciative of my culture. WHICH DOESNT MAKE IT OKAY but, he was also a good person (mostly) and it was a very conflicting experience for me. I wasn't able to engage him in a dialog about it during my time with that company because professionalizm, but later i did reach out and told him that how he was making me feel. He was apologetic, thankfully. Anyway, I think I'm rambling now :3 but that's a slice of what my experience was as a first generation Asian Australian immigrant, and thank you to anyone who bothers to read and parse through it. I will also try to be more active here. To be honest and i guess this is stupid of me, i have been feeling a bit left out since a lot of your experiences are NA centric so I had drifted away. That was bad of me, and I shouldn't have done that. So I'll be around more... but feel free to poke my face if I do wander off again. Just @ me or sommit. Also, I can't promise that I'd be able to deliver 100% everything of what you all might be after, since people relations across sections and factions and walks of life will remain to be a very complex thing to wade through, but I do promise that I will listen and I will try to carry your voices through, up the ladder of moderation channels. No one is unwelcomed at any threads here in ResetEra, but there are communities hangouts that cater for focused groups' circumstances. To be honest, I cant see that your posts have been winning hearts nor supports here. Maybe, in a way, your passion is not the passion of the people in this particular community, and your specific battles are not the battles of AsianERA. Don't take it the wrong way, but at the rate you are going now, you may be driving people further to disengage from your posts. I will of course defer to each community's voice, so correct me if I am wrong, good AsianERA members, but in the past I've observed that AsianERA has been mostly about making friends and food porn and celebrating the various (since "Asia" is not a monolith) cultural aspects that makes us "Asians". Political contents DO get discussed here but they have never been the primary focus of the community.

Casca's feelings are very complicated, I mean, I dont think she'll still hate Guts tho, but she originally fell for Griffith so hard and Griff was always unreachable to her. Even when he's not treating Guts specially, Griff was always slotted to marry someone like Charlotte. But like, in general, i think it was very hard for her to get over that Guts' entrance to the Bank of the Hawk effectively changed so much of the band's dynamic. She used to be his second. Then, Guts was. And then, Guts left. And just as she was able to love them both. And his exit spelled the devastating doom of the band. Dont be disingenuous. The point was that the ratings system is skewed so that sexualizations of female figures are more tolerable. A desire to improve that fact is not a bad aspiration. hey, im also an artist so i understand how intimate a creation might feel to its creator(s) :) but i think feedbacks make products (and arts) improve over time, so as an artist, i always welcome inputs from others. and yes, of course you are right that most games are a product of a team (some, of large teams) so it isn't completely outlandish to expect that at least some members of said teams would have contributed inputs on to make a certain product better. the fact that some issues (violent content, sexualizations, racisms, etc.) are still pervasive in today's media is disheartening but i can only hope that in some ways progress ARE being made and voices ARE being heard and that in the future we will see a more diverse products that offers options to wider range of audience after all, isolationism is not as attractive, profit-wise. the larger your target market is (and the more inclusive it is), the more success you potentially can yield from your product.

Whilst there are a lot of merits in discussing the relationship between gaming and violence, it occasionally feels as if certain topics are used as a shield to condone other issues being discussed. Kinda makes me sad that we are at page 168 (50ppp) and still women have to fight tooth and nail to basically say that though we do enjoy gaming, we do find that there are a lot to be desired with some aspects of said media. Apparently stating that we would like to change some artistic contents is not as tolerable as asking to change framerate per second or additional weapons or balancing between existing classes. Because if the developer fixes balancing issues in any game, that's censorship, right?

? where did you see this? loads of women (and pro-women) voices in this thread likes sexy characters like bayonetta, so be easy, no one is blanket-calling people who likes sexy characters as creeps.

it is completely okay if dont think discussing things in a thread wont solve anything NOT to actually participate in said thread, you know? other participants seem to have found at least an outlet to voice their opinions.

Forum discussion is an exchange of ideas. I donno about others, but I welcome the chance to empathize with others on a public discourse space. Of course criticism is meant to voice that there are rooms for improvements. That change is desired but not mandated since the decision making agency in this case rests with the devs (which can and still will make whatever they want). Criticism IS offered to effect change. But in no way it is not censorship in the way that censorship is defined as censure of others' voices. Tell me, if you find a movie not to be how you like it, and you say a criticism of it.............. do you consider it censorship? O___O?

SEEMS LIKE WE ACTUALLY AGREE ON THINGIES. what i want is also for debates and for people to exchange ideas and to be open to improvements. i do think we can do better in terms of framing female sexualization in mainstream media. Same with movies, if I see rampant sexism contents in movies, i will offer criticism on that. Doesn't mean those kinds of movies will stop being made. ANYWAY, let's celebrate that there are points where we agree on and move on :3 more options are good for everyone, in general. hear, hear, kikimon o7

no one is pushing other people to say they should or should not like whatever devs can and will still make whatever they pleasewomen are saying we find a few issues with a thing. that we have criticism of how women are widely sexualized in mainstream gaming. THIS IS NOT "pretty much the same as pushing anything on others". say, a person go and see a superhero movie. then they say, this movie suks. this is CRITICISM. it is NOT censorship. howwwwwwwwwww haaaaardddd is itttttt geeeeeezus

i mean i love fran and balthier from ff12 but i can acknowledge that she's dressed like a playboy bunny. i can admit that there may be rooms for improvements with regards to her character design. just because something that i like is criticized, it doesn't mean a personal attack against my person. how hard is it. geez louise.

sry reads like you were being over sensitive about it since u come in here and type a big post about the topic then u backed it up with ideas such as "recreational outrage" whilst also partaking in recreational outrage yourself if we're operating on the definition as provided by u sry man trying hard here to apply what you brought into the discussion is all
