The important part is at the end of the article. The market was down across the board.
Ok.
I wrote a report about the company if anyone is interested -
This article touches on some key points, but I'd wait for something more concrete tbh.
.
Higher debut for LA than in the UK.
I don't follow the Spain market that closely these days Could be.
I have a feeling we'll see some articles soon that explore why this happened and what's been going on at Sony recently.
This is based on survey data rather than actual shipment data. The total quoted for Mexico in the survey is higher than the total for the entire LATAM region.
But CESA is clearly estimating ROTW. Same with PS Vita. The fact they made such a basic error with PS4 should back that up. LATAM total for XB1 is not even 4m, so Mexico would not be that high. As above. The only trustworthy numbers are USA and Japan as they quote NPD and Media Create/Famitsu numbers. The Europe data is accurate enough, as it's based on GfK, but some of the data is upweighted/slghtly off from what GfK report.
I would ignore it altogether based on the fact CESA thinks PS4 sold more than Sony reported.
Even the PS4 total is off. No matter if you count sell in or sell through, it magically sold more units than Sony reported themselves. The US and Japan numbers are correct since it's based on NPD and Media Create/Famitsu data. The European country numbers are based on GfK data, but some seem to be upweighted / slightly different to what GfK reports. I'd ignore the rotw estimates and global totals.
Australia and New Zealand are less than Canada. LATAM is under UK.
I wouldn't put any stock into the global LTD numbers posted in the meristation thread, as it's clear they extrapolated based on the data they do have. The only actual data to pay attention to is the US, Japan and Europe data as those are the only ones actually tracked. The Europe data is also slightly off from what GfK report, and some are upweighted.
smh
.
GfK seem to include Amazon in their sample now.3DS sold 3.9m LTD. Wii U sold 600k. Wii sold 8.4m.
Worth noting that the rankings don't include units sold in hardware bundles. Last I checked, Uncharted 4 had around 4m units sold via bundles in the US, which would put it significantly higher than other games that weren't as widely bundled.
Or this happened, weird.
Bloomberg or Citi clearly messed up here. Or maybe MC did. Famitsu reports 178k for Switch Lite and 62k for Switch Bloomberg reported 114k switch lite and 63k Switch. My guess is Media Create reported something like 177k for Switch Lite but someone misinterpreted it and instead assumed that was Switch total. So subtracted the 63k instead of adding it.
See my post in other thread.
The original Media Create report doesn't even mention preliminary. So clearly someone messed up.
Or this happened
I think. But don't quote me. I'm going off memory.
IIRC it's one hour after that.
Yes. It's finally time.
Media will get a 3 hour hands on.
Hence my second tweet.
Is this a joke?
This isn't the only Sony event that week.
Going to get a couple new Pokemon tonight.
I was so ready to lock this thread after reading the first 6 words of the title.
Real.
There will be games here btw
Bayonetta 2 (Switch) < Astral Chain < Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)
Anyway, without anything more than that tweet it's hard to say to what extent this is / isn't true. Projects are cancelled all the time in early stages of development. If more news comes to light about cancelled projects please make a new thread.
PS5, cancelled.
.
It doesn't though.
I voted in the poll to try and hint at whether Overwatch will come to Switch. But the OP made it so you can't see who voted for which option.
Just a quick note to say that we were able to verify the poster above as someone who worked in the industry and would be able to access certain levels of information. That being said, it's near impossible to verify whether the above description is true or not, so please keep in mind that we can't verify whether all the information in each post is correct, just the details i posted above.
Death Stranding gameplay will be shown. If that wasn't already confirmed.
I agree. Hence why I posted what I did, especially because there is some cool stuff there that is worth tuning in for. Leaking the whole thing is too much though.
I made a mistake. Never mind.
Sent you a dm
At the end of the day this is just a glorified marketing event and there shouldn’t be anything wrong with knowing what to expect beforehand. Besides, there will be more than 1 game per minute, so there is plenty of stuff that hasn’t been hinted at. And even the stuff that was hinted at didn’t reveal anything concrete.
Those games are already announced for Switch and half of them seem to have solid release dates already.
I like to keep things vague, rather than actually naming the unannounced titles. This is more of a 'what to expect' tweet, rather than a leak of unannounced stuff.
In terms of unit sales, the 3 Fates SKU's combined sold around 2x more than SOV when comparing opening months.
Note. NPD separates the SKU's for Fire Emblem Fates into Birthright, Conquest and Special. In terms of dollar sales, Three Houses still has the highest opening in the series, even when combining SKU's for Fates. In terms of LTD, dollar sales for Fates would actually be higher than Awakening if you combine the three SKU's. Anyway. FE:TH > 300k in the US (Put > to show with digital it'd be higher).
Fake-
Just a quick note. The game seems to be China only for now, to support the launch of Switch in China. No news on a Western release.
It probably will come after the China launch. But for now it’s just China.
That's not the Switch Lite.
Just discuss it in one of the 342 switch sales threads.
Fire Emblem.
<20k Wolfenstein only had a 7% share on Switch.
Make a thread when it's on the Ouya store.
Best to wait for actual data from NPD or use eShop rankings. This tweet doesn't say anything specific.
Not here, no. This will be fairly small scale stream.
This will also be an event where we see China's top gaming companies, such as Tencent, show what games they'll bring to the console space.
Online only event this year. I'll check out the Sony booth after to play some of the titles.
This video doesn't really warrant a thread. Feel free to discuss in the NPD thread or something. He doesn't have access to NPD data. He just makes predictions.
DQB2 > 3K Packaged 67% NSW
Sold about the same first week on Switch. PS4 ver. of DQB1 sold more first week than PS4 ver. of DQB2.

They talked about Death Stranding releasing in November a couple of weeks before the trailer.

Last of Us 2 Feb 2020 Standard Edition, Special Edition, Collectors Edition, Ellie Edition
Right. I personally don't expect much to happen tbh.
I can probably guess the sources they talked to, given the Remedy stuff has been making the rounds.
I'd have to look into it more. I haven't heard anything that leads me to believe a deal has happened at this point. Only that it was explored.
People move jobs all the time in the games industry. Every move doesn't need a thread.
Not in 2020.
I wouldn't read into those tweets. I retweeted it because it's news and Benji probably did the same.
SMM NSW = 1.85x SMM NWU
38 10 9 Packaged
Just to add. Brad absolutely has access to a lot of information and has a lot of insights on MS. What was posted last year is something that was 100% real. That's not in question at all.
Because that thread was not from a reliable source. The Business Insider interview was two days ago too. That was the original source.
This was the case for a while. Was always confused by some of the original rumors.
So to clarify. What Nibel said doesn't count as verification in the traditional sense. Sometimes people have access to a certain piece of information and we will look to verify it. That doesn't mean the individual themselves is verified for things they post in the future. If that is the case we would note it.
Since I was tagged in this thread. 1. A while means last year. There is a reason I never really commented much, if at all, on those rumors. 2. MS next gen plans are strong and still on track, I wouldn't read too much into the news. 3. Given I've seen some confusion around it. isn't verified on Era. Although they are free to send a PM to myself if they want to be.
If there is a better source then feel free to make a new thread.
Either that or they already filled the position but it's still up for some reason.
The job date on the website shows November 12th, 2018. Still the same job/application.
Went up in November 2018. Still up in June 2019.
It's the current internal date, yes.
Just to clarify. was only verified for having access to Microsoft's GDC plans prior to the event and nothing else. It's best to assume everything they post is based on that info or speculation. If they want to verify they have access to other information they can PM me.
Yup. I thought it was great. The disappointing thing I referred to was the Animal Crossing date. But that's not a big deal. New Smash DLC and BOTW2 sequel are the highlights for me.
Make this after Nintendo direct.
On route most likely.
Don't do this to yourselves people.
Come on, OP.
Reposted to clarify the last point
Have a fun E3.
Wait for trailer. But yeh, bit of a different direction. Extremely ambitious game though.
They get their information from other rumors / leaks on the internet. They also speculate on top of that. Given what they say about the Nintendo games, I'm going to file this under speculation and lock the thread for now. Feel free to discuss it in other Nintendo threads though.
Add some information, thoughts, links etc... to your OP. Otherwise no one can answer your question.
Ask shinobi. But it's weird. People are saying i retweeted the jeux video thing and said it's legit when neither of those two things are true. I would have talked about it before the jeux video thing if it was real.
Sometimes I like to troll lol
I personally thought it was good. There is a reason I started the tweet the way I did. I think one of the issues that I didn't forsee was the lack of gameplay. That was weird. Also I think the barrage of leaks, such as Elden Ring and other stuff took away some of the surprises from the conference.
Edit: Nevermind. Reopened this.
Will be the best conference.
More like Leak3. Amirite.
Year of leaks indeed.
Can confirm. Will still be under the name scarlet for now.
.
Bandai Namco leaked the game themselves. Not me. It was already being posted everywhere by the time I posted it.
hmmmm.
So just to confirm. This was all from a Bandai Namco security flaw. I wasn't the one to actually leak this first. It was already everywhere.
It's coming to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Tales of Arise.
Don't make threads with clickbait titles like this. Thanks.
Every game should be exclusive to real gamers only.
Chill dude. People know not to be online if they want to avoid leaks this time of year.
This project started in 2014, technically.
No.
Hah. I'm just me. But yes, this is real. It'll be introduced on stage by Dominic Matthews and Rahni Tucker at the Xbox E3 showcase this Sunday.
It's real.
Jason is completely wrong about Pioneer. It's not a new IP. It's not even based on what the old project was at all.
Destiny 2 no longer on PS4 confirmed.
You know the direct finished 10 mins ago right? lol
Free link-
GAMERS CLEAN UP!!!
The name and description are what I've heard too.
Don't make a thread on a rumor if you have no idea who the source is.
I had to post this the last time when media started trawling this forum and posting peoples posts here as legit information.
This can be discussed in the Sony first party thread.
This happens every year and it's usually due to some social media / video account integration thingy.
Do you have an actual source for this? Because news sites are going to pick up this as a story with a title like this.
Close enough lol.
The collectors edition bonus is hilarious btw.
Surprised Jason only heard this now. It's been known for a while.
Given I've been asked to clarify multiple times. This post was about Death Stranding.
The game isn't so much a clone as it is inspired by zombie games. It seems to take the best parts of Days Gone, State of Decay 2 and L4D to create a new game.
My suggestion. Sony PlayStation: First Party Studios |OT5| Trailer Next Week
Correct. Racing Transformed had a very low opening in the UK and it was word of mouth and promotions that gave the game a long tail. In fact, First week sales for Racing Transformed were just 1.6% of lifetime sales in the UK. So that should tell you how well the game sold after it was out. TSR isn't a bad opening, but i'd be surprised if it matches lifetime sales of transformed.
It isn't. But It's still a Sony published game and there isn't a Sony published games thread, so I posted the tease in the first party thread.
What phone?
Just to clarify a few points. 1. We verified Benji as having access to certain US sales data (Not from NPD) which gives him an overview of how certain retail software or hardware may be performing. 2. It's up to Benji if he wants to post here or not. 3. If a tweet is relevant to the thread and provides additional data points or context then it's fine to post it here. But if a tweet is not related to the thread or is just reposting data already on era then there isn't a need to bring it up and discuss it. 4. Let's move on and try and discuss the topic at hand.
Thanks to the NPD Group and Mat Piscatella for the breakdown. Note. This NPD report only covers the U.S. Video Games Market.April 2019 tracked spending across video game hardware, software, accessories and game cards totaled $842 million, gaining 1 percent when compared to a year ago. The presentation in 20 mins is just going to go through the slides posted above with comments from Jim Ryan.
There is a lot of incorrect info here.
Ubisoft stage for another movie partnership, lol.
Activision confirmed they plan to reveal the game before the end of the quarter which ends June 30th 2019. We'll see it soon anyway. Locking this thread for now as there isn't much else to discuss.
That persons name? Albert Einstein.
Ok.... 1. WSJ and other outlets have reported Nintendo is working on new hardware for release in the future. 2. Nintendo has confirmed that they will not show new hardware at E3. 3. Gamestop employees don't know more than you do.
Most of this is incorrect.
Going to add this tweet chain-
Only 0.3% of the world population has purchased a copy. So a major flop if you ask me.
There isn't any evidence to suggest this is a real Nintendo account. Especially as it's not listed as a social media account at the bottom of their website- In fact it even says it's an unofficial account in the description.
7,432,903
China opening weekend was $41m
Here is a fun fact. In the US, the Wii U version of Call of Duty Ghosts accounted for approx 0.6% of total sales (PS4,XB1,PS3,360,Steam).
Wait for Capcom to update the million seller list and then we can make a new thread with the official number.
I'm locking this thread as the numbers don't add up. If 9.5 million is true then it can't be 30% of revenue. If 30% of revenue is true then it can't be 9.5 million.
He was only asked about the percentage number and not the subscriber number.
I locked the thread as the numbers don't add up. Hopefully MS releases an official number.
Capcom will have some stuff this year, but it's not going to be as big as prior years.
This is the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me.
Good thing I wasn't trolling :)
This was previously hinted at by EA before, but we now have further confirmation that the game (or a specific mobile version) is in the works for the game. EA is also working to bring the game to China, likely through its current partner which is Tencent.
Not for the reason you think lol.
We just looked into the ban and decided to overturn it. In general our policy is that discussion of reproduction cartridges is okay, but users should own the game in some way. So suggesting people buy repros for games they don't own (e.g. the Japanese version) is no good.
All these THQ Nordic ports getting leaked early. Must suck for Stormfront who were promised the exclusive reveals.
It's important to bear in mind this is only a short event. So don't expect too much ofc. I'm mainly saying this will be better than the last one. (Which admittedly isn't a hard thing to achieve). I just hope they didn't change anything lol.
I mean tbh it doesn't take much to be better than the first State of Play.
Last time I said “Don’t expect much”. Well this one will be better than the last for sure. We'll see updates to Sony games, a new title (as mentioned in the OP) and also the re-reveal of a third party game that was announced long ago.
Cool. Doesn't need to be a thread though. Just make new threads when stuff is announced.
Don't bump old threads.
Don't get your hopes up.
It's because I knew people would overhype it. I'll provide further expectations once the next State of Play is announced. (Yes, it's something Sony wants to do regularly)
Just to make one thing clear. hasn't been verified as an insider and their posts are speculation. Not hints.
Then why are you making such definitive claims? If you take the time to do the math, which was done in this thread earlier, then you can see how there is a solid argument here. At the end of the day they both ended up in the same ballpark, so I'm not sure what the actual issue is.
Who do you trust more? Sony or third party research firms?
First of all. Why do people care so much about this? Secondly, given the public data available it does look like Xbox 360 would have passed PS3's 87.4m figure sometime in the second half of 2015. Either that or Xbox One sold way more than we think, which wouldn't make sense.
That's billion yen. 283 billion yen. Not 283 million units. Sony changed from units to revenue for a bit.
They mean this fiscal year. Which ends March 31st 2020. So technically 11 months. It was on the conference call.
You mean capitalism?
Ok. And we got the news from the conference on the 10th and also confirmed it with video game execs. The policy isn't even anything new tbh. China has approved zero poker and mahjong games this year but last year over 900 were in Q1 2018.
Thanks to the NPD Group and Mat Piscatella for the breakdown. Note. This NPD report only covers the U.S. Video Games Market. March 2019 tracked spending across video game hardware, software, accessories and game cards totaled $1.2 billion, declining 11 percent when compared to a year ago. Declines were experienced across all segments. First quarter dollar sales of tracked console, portable and PC video game software totaled $1.5 billion, 2 percent higher when compared to a year ago. was the best-selling game of March 2019 and is now the second best-selling game of 2019. Launch month sales of Tom Clancy's The Division 2 are the sixth highest in history for an Ubisoft-published game. was the second best-selling game of March, and now ranks as the eigth best-selling game of the year. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice represents the second highest launch month sales for a FromSoftware game, trailing only Dark Souls III which released in the April 2016 tracking period. debuts as the third best-selling game of March. Launch month sales of MLB 19: The Show are the highest in franchise history, and also set a new all-time high for a baseball genre game.ranks fourth on the March best-sellers list, with the second highest launch month sales in franchise history, trailing only the February 2008 debut of Devil May Cry 4.is now the best-selling game in franchise history with lifetime sales now exceeding those of the previous best in the franchise, Kingdom Hearts, which was released in the September 2002 tracking period. Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware platform of both March as well as the first quarter across both unit and dollar sales. Gamepads were the best-selling accessory type for the month, with single-digit percentage growth when compared to a year ago. First quarter spending on accessories and game cards increased 2 percent when compared to a year ago, to $929 million. As with March, gamepads represent the best-selling accessory type. The PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 Wireless Controller Black is the best-selling gamepad of 2019 in both unit and dollar sales.* Digital sales not included ^ PC digital sales not included # Minecraft digital sales on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One included
The comments in this thread are so misinformed...... jeez.
I'm actually quoted in the article lol.
The author is incorrect. The changes were communicated at a conference on April 10th and the new application files are listed here-
Good to know.
Given what I've heard, i'd be surprised if Sony shared any more info on PS5 anytime soon. Maybe PSX time/next year. Could be wrong.
It'd be #16 in the chart if you combine the two SKU's.
Not exactly. It’s best to discuss the games listed in the OP and Bandai Namco as a publisher on Switch.
I wouldn't be too worried about the future of Rayman.
I can't back that up. If you want to verify something before you post it here then feel free to send me a PM.
Just MS wants to make subscription services more important moving forward. So a lot of the new things coming from MS will be tied to subscriptions.
This isn't the only tier MS plans to introduce.
Ubisoft likes to tease stuff.
Seems these are indeed from the previous game.
Just to be clear. That tweet is a joke.
It's April. Make this thread after E3.
People are discussing this in the State of Play thread.
It's not yet known how the money is paid out. That tweet is speculating.
Yup. Although I think the format was good and it'd be good to see Sony turn it into a monthly/quarterly thing or whatever.
This doesn't need to be a thread.
Sekiro sold around half what DS3 did. (Packaged software comp only)
Locking this.
I wouldn't read too much into rumors going around at the moment.
They used google translate. Here is the actual source:
The message said there are numerous other Nintendo threads.
Locking as we do not provide a platform for skill up or their content here
Your move
It was more "Don't go hyping this up to be the next E3 2015".
I'd drop it and accept that others have different views.
Would you like to clarify this comment?
There will be new games announced here, a few PSVR ones as well, but this isn’t an E3 type event by any means.
Don’t expect much.
Yup. These are estimates. Not data from EA
This can be discussed in the Jeux video rumor thread
See me in my office.
This can be discussed in any of the stadia threads.
Phil didn't go to Japan to get games for Xbox. He went to Japan to give Xbox games to Nintendo!

There isn't much to discuss here.
This can be speculated in the main thread.
You have to go a really long way down the chart before you find Crackdown 3
Thanks to the NPD Group and Mat Piscatella for the breakdown. Note. This NPD report only covers the U.S. Video Games Market. February 2019 tracked spending across video game hardware, software, accessories and game cards totaled $1.0 billion, up 4 percent when compared to a year ago. Gains in software and accessories & game card spending offset declines in hardware. That Google Maps stuff is old. It's not a leak lol.
Damage control mode.
Turns out white feminism was just white supremacy all along.
This shit makes me angry
Is there a huge difference there? I wouldn't say so. The outcome is the same.
That Steam stuff is related to this btw- It's fairly normal.
Closing thread for now. If there is a reliable site that reports on this in the future then feel free to make a new thread.
You're conflating two different things OP.
Turns out it's actually Ninja who will buy Take Two
Try not to word posts in a definitive way when you're just speculating. Sometimes these posts get taken out of context. Thanks
This reminds me of Microsoft buying EA rumors and Apple buying Nintendo rumors.
I forgot Crackdown 3 sold 4m in the UK.
Around 1/3rd of what DMC4 sold in its first week.
Congrats on the best post in this thread.
Right.
This was announced for Xbox One and PC at the reveal last year.
Please don't create disturbing threads like this.
Great work putting this all together, Emily. This is an excellent resource and I'm looking forward to revisiting some old ads and discovering some new ones.
PlayStation China held a press conference in Beijing today to announce seven new games. It's part of the China Hero Project which is an initiative to fund and publish Chinese developed games for PS4 in China and Globally. It was confirmed that Immortal Legacy and Hardcore Mecha are planned for a 2019 release. Project Boundary will get a beta soon. Lost Soul Aside will get new info later in the year. The new games announced were-, a third-person “hack and stealth” game, a cold-weapon survival game Convallaria, a online game containing player-versus-enemy and player-versus-player elements, an action RPG (working title), a dieselpunk metroidvania game , a horror adventure game Thanks to Gematsu for the videos and articles-
It's in the OP.....
At least it's recyclable.
Add a text summary too. Not everyone can watch a video.
.
I'm shocked.
Check your PM's.
Hi Heromanz, This was already addressed in the following thread - If you have any further questions feel free to contact an admin.
Sony's E3 conference will be a disappointment.
I had a look into it and the twitter user in question made some claims recently which did not come true. It's not unlikely that Persona 5 will come to Switch in some form, given Joker in Smash. But I'm locking this specific thread for now.
Ok. So tell me exactly what Persona 5R is.
I changed the title because you're making a lot of presumptions and also misinterpreting what both the tweet in the OP said and also what Atlus have announced and said themselves. Please take this into consideration with the next thread you make. Thanks.
Changed the title. Also who is this twitter person and why should I believe them? This isn't true.
Gonna be waiting a long time.
Enlightening
Given the video doesn't add much to the conversation. I'm locking this thread for now.
In general they will all get a Western release too. The goal of the project is to fund Chinese domestic projects to be published in both China and overseas. Lost Soul Aside and Monkey KIng are probably the two big projects most people have heard of.
Changed the title.
No it doesn't. This is just them showing their future lineup which has been the same for some years now.
If the comments are going to start defending Alex Jones being given a platform then this thread doesn't need to remain open.
With no content in the OP, there isn't anything to discuss or answer.
Sorry, meant the 31st.
.
Locking this thread for now. If there is a more reliable source that backs up the info feel free to make a new thread.
According to EA - "Overall, 47% of our units sold were through digital rather than physical, measured on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 over the last 12 months." So you can assume around that much for console version. Of course the retail numbers in this thread don't include PC digital and all the other early digital incentives through EA Access or Origin.
Andromeda sold more than double yes. Andromeda itself was already nearly half of what ME3 sold in its first week. Again. These are packaged sales comparisons and digital missing does skew the figures. Digital sales (which EA themselves say is approaching 50% of overall sales for them) are not counted. Nor is EA Access players. There were incentives to buy the digital ver. so I'd expect a really high digital share for the game.
Anthem sold around 10% what Destiny sold in its first week. (UK Packaged sales comp)
I wouldn’t read into this too much. Not that they’re completely wrong.
Big if true
Ok....
Whilst the games cost the same amount, the actual ASP for each title is slightly different at retail. In other words, it's not exactly $60. So using $60 as the ASP will give you a number in the right area, but not the actual number.
There isn't anything to discuss here.
This question gets raised a lot. I have answered it before but maybe it's time for an update. The issue is mainly that Nintendo uses carts whilst Sony and Microsoft use Blu-Ray discs. Of course the usage of carts can't really be helped given that Switch is designed to be both a portable and a home console. When a game sells for $60 there are various costs associated with that. For example, ~25% of that ($15) is what the retailer takes. Then there is a static platform/manufacturing fee that Sony/MS/Nintendo take. This static platform fee is around $12 for Sony/MS. Then you have to factor in returns and other costs such as licensing fees or whatever. Generally speaking the publisher ends up with around ~55% of that $60. Sometimes lower depending on what other costs are included. With Nintendo there isn't a static platform fee as carts vary in size from 1GB to 32GB. Whilst using an 8GB cart (with manufacturing/packaging) will cost about the same as the static fee charged by Sony/MS. The platform fee for a 32GB cart is about double that. Meaning that publishers on Switch see a much lower margin when using higher capacity carts. Therefore it is really hard to lower the price of these games without sacrificing a lot.
Your post is also spin.
I like to live in the past
If you have time can you provide a comp for RE2 with RE7? Cheers.
Nope. KH2 came out at the end of March. NPD only tracked a few days of sales for the 'first month'. KH3 is over 1m though.

Make this thread when PS5, Next Xbox and Sega Dreamcast 2 are actually announced.
New Nintendo Switch
How u know?
This tweet doesn't deserve a thread. It's hardly an official position of the company and just something the social media manager is saying to generate interest.
Correct.
Fun Fact: If you combine the opening sales of this weeks new games, which are Far Cry New Dawn, Metro Exodus, Jump Force and Crackdown 3, the total is less than half of what Crash Bandicoot Trilogy sold in its first week on PS4. (Packaged sales comp)
Closed at the request of OP
He's talking about Astral Chain. Not Bayonetta 3. Did no one listen to this properly?
Can't wait for VR at 720p
From what I've seen, the Japanese data is incorrect. Not sure how reliable the App Annie/Sensor Tower data is. But based off rankings alone it's easy to disprove the numbers in that tweet.
Not worth giving them the attention for this tweet.
I think that leaving out certain factors from the OP as to the Switch's design + the title of this thread means we won't see good discussion here.
That happened, yes. I'm more just commenting on the nature of random leaks.
You're telling me a random twitter rumor might have been fake? I'm shocked!
Just be patient. This doesn't need a thread.
It's not a theory when the reason is "Because it doesn't look good"
Woo
I'd temper expectations tbh.
Blizzard has partnered with NetEase since 2008. These job cuts have nothing to do with China or Blizzard targeting the China market.

Am I the only one who realises that whilst Zell said '13th', he didn't say the month or the year?
There isn’t anything specific in this tweet other than there are rumours.
Nintendo Direct Predictions - Joker (Batman) gets added to Smash - Nintendo partners with AOL for new and improved online service - Miyamoto confirms 3DS will get support through 2030 - Netflix comes to Switch (DVD rentals only) - Metroid Prime 4 rebooted again, now developed by Rare - Bowsers Inside Story announced - biopic for Doug Bowser - Wii U classic announced to shift remaining stock - New Labo kit works with Fortnite, allowing you to build structures in the real world that appear in the game - New Zelda isn’t 2D, it’s 4D. Also Switch 4D announced. - Virtual Boy Games added to Nintendo Online
Despite the update in the OP, this probably doesn't need to be a thread due to how the Xbox Live SDK news on Switch has been misinterpreted and led to a few incorrect conclusions based on that. If there is news about other Xbox Live related services coming to Switch feel free to make a new thread.
I'm going to include a quote from Take Two's CEO that I think is worth reading- Ultimately subscriptions are set to be additive in the gaming space, as opposed to all encompassing.

He was verified by admins some time back.
Took Fortnite BR two weeks to reach the same milestone.

Bit of a reach OP.
We've had this thread around 10 times now.
Given the number was 17 million in November and is now 23 million in January, it is clearly selling through extremely well.
Whilst not in the title, the same information is in the OP of this thread-
The wording is slightly confusing. So I'm genuinely not sure if this is EA Access on PS4 or just some new subscription service coming to a major platform.
In EA's earnings call they noted:This suggests EA Access may be coming to PS4? Or perhaps another platform? Or maybe it's as simple as EA Access Premier coming to Xbox? Source: f

No.
We don't need a list thread like this. Especially as this is in essence port begging too.
This is the first 'official' confirmation of the game, coming from Geoff himself. Here is an article with details of the game for those who missed the leak thread-
Probably not a good idea to call anyone who disagrees with you a flat earther, OP.
Think of it like logging into uPlay on a console.
Essentially it seems to me they’re just aiming to publish 4 big titles a year, preferably spread across the year. Nightingale made a good post on the first page where he showed what that would have looked like this gen if there were no delays. So it is certainly possible. As an aside. I wouldn’t read too much into the next gen stuff. Both MS and Sony refused to provide timing. But that that doesn’t mean they don’t have a good idea internally at this point. Final note. This was published before MS acquired inexile and Obsidian + before Sony had its recent acquisitions so do keep that in mind.
I don’t get why people are arguing about the 4 AAA games thing. It’s basicallg saying MS want a steady stream of high quality games each year. Everyone is reading way too much into it.
What are you doing bro?
Working servers are now exclusive to the Epic Store.
That's true, although Crackdown 3 is the main new title releasing during the first half of the year from MS 1P. Rest of the new games are in H2 or beyond. I am excluding things like re-releases/ports and titles as well as expansions when I say the above.
I'll drop this here. A report from an institutional investor that held a meeting with MS last year.
Just to add. The note was published last year. So this was written before the acquisition linked above.
I'll drop this here. A report from an institutional investor that held a meeting with Sony last year.
Playlink, I imagine.
There is an interesting story to write about how this game came into existence. Maybe a journalist will investigate and cover it.
Yes. Characters have abilities/powers, some of which are tied to specific characters/classes.
I mean I posted here a while back that the game is real. But filing under rumor/leak until EA officially announce it.
I believe there will be, but not right at launch. Focus is on teams of 3 for launch. Good question actually. I think Respawn is targeting 60fps for base consoles too. But don't quote me on that.
Re-quoting for the new page. As above, I think it's worth waiting to see the game in action before jumping to conclusions. They do seem to have found the right balance between a Hero shooter and Battle Royale game. Also worth noting the game is very much a live/ongoing title. So what you don't see in day 1 is being considered for the future. Just like with many titles today.
Good guess.
I like how people just ignored my post. There is parkour and zip lines in the game.
I think it's worth waiting to see the game in action first. Yes there are no Titans and things like wall riding are not in the current iteration of the game. But a lot of the features and core feel of Titanfall 2 is still there. There is elements of parkour in the game. I think the Edge editor is wrong to say there is 'no parkour'. Game will be 60fps on consoles too. The nod to R6S is primarily because of how the game has in depth characters that you can customise. Also the game will have a tutorial mode to ease people in.
I assume this is an actually an employee of the company? Is it known this poster works for them?
Yes. We've heard from multiple sources and seen tangible evidence that the game exists and that the information in the OP is based on real information. That being said, we're keeping this marked as a rumor for now until there is official confirmation from EA, which shouldn't be too long according to the OP.
Everything but Switch.
No worries!
I don't remember talking about this at all?
It's Battlefield Heroes all over again!
Story of the generation here. MS are in a good position to benefit from what they've built on the services side this gen in the next generation.
I think the reaction in this case was more towards the briefing that took place the next day. Whilst Nintendo did revise its hardware forecast down, investors right now are more concerned where the next 20m will come from and whether Nintendo will be able to execute the strategy it outlined yesterday. That being said, the price will probably bounce back up again once there is a clearer picture of next fiscal year.
Because 876 million is software sold through to consumers inc digital sales. The software numbers reported in Sony's financials are shipments to retail inc digital sales. So actually the total number of software shipped is higher than 876m.
In general Sony has other segments which aren't performing as well. In terms of games, the big challenge for next fiscal year is whether Sony can grow profit despite an expected drop in hardware sales. So a lot will rely on network sales growth, more so than before. Also a lot of uncertainty around PS5 and next gen in general.
In the US the Xbox still has higher digital sales ratio for a lot of third party titles. Of course that doesn't always translate into more sales, given the install base difference, but sometimes it does. Digital sales ratio for first party titles is also really high. There are multiple reasons why this is the case, such as Xbox having a smaller yet more engaged base, Xbox Live being a part of Xbox for so long, the introduction of Play Anywhere and many other reasons. It's why software and services revenue is so high for Xbox. When I talk about digital sales I am of course excluding game pass because that's a subscription service.
This can be discussed in the Nintendo financial briefing thread. It doesn't need its own thread.
.
Biggest story of 2018 is once again the network side. PSN total revenue (Full Game Downloads, Add On Content, Subscriptions) hit 1373 billion yen for the full year, up 48% YoY. That alone is higher than Nintendo's total revenue for 2018. Haven't even included hardware, accessories or packaged software in the Sony number.
Correct.
Sony posted its Q3 FY2018 earnings today which covers the 3 month period ending December 31st 2018.
As it looks like there was a mistranslation here, a new thread has been opened with the correct translation and info.
Thanks. I updated the line in the OP to provide some more context around the quote. The phrases I used are from people who can read Japanese.
Recently a thread was made regarding a Nikkei article that made claims about Nintendo Switch Online in 2019. As there was some confusion, due to the article being behind a paywall + concern it was being mistranslated, the thread has been closed and this new thread has been created. Nikkei published an article today that covered Nintendo's financial briefing and stated that Nintendo Switch Online will be strengthened in 2019 by adding new services aimed at enthusiasts / core gamers / high spenders / bigger spending game aficionados. The author does not elaborate further but states it as something that will happen. Please see the tweet below-
Can you help provide a better word or phrase that would fit in this case? Thanks.

The twitter account is accurate, yes.
I agree with both posts here.
Not one I can publicly disclose unfortunately. The revenue figures are overall totals for the company. The unit figures are just additional data reported by Nintendo. They chose to only disclose numbers for packaged games / Packaged games with digital ver.
One thing that I think a lot of people gloss over in regards to Nintendo is how reliant they are on self published titles to drive hardware sales. Nintendo's core business is still very much dedicated console hardware and software, with its mobile games/amiibo/other business only accounting for 8% of revenue during the last quarter. Whilst Microsoft and Sony rely more on the 80/20 model on its platforms (20% of sales are first party, 80% are third party), Nintendo has seen very much the opposite happen. Granted this has been the case for a while but it's considerably more notable with Wii U and Switch as opposed to say Wii and DS. For the first 9 months of this fiscal year (ending Dec 31st 2018), first party software accounted for 84.6% of total software revenue for Nintendo. The percentage during the same period last year was 85.3%. Note that this percentage is based on total software revenue and initial margin on 1P will always be high. That being said, it's an extremely high percentage and shows that Nintendo very much relies on first party and Nintendo published titles to generate the majority of its software revenue, with third party playing a smaller role. Page 4- It shows to me that it is extremely crucial that Nintendo have a strong pipeline of first party games to push Switch hardware sales. That's not to say third party games aren't important for Nintendo, as we've seen a few success stories and in general a lot of publishers are profitable on the system. But what it does say is that the main driving factor behind Switch hardware sales is first party content and that it also explains why we saw Nintendo reduce their hardware forecast from 20 million units to 17 million units this year. To further explain, Nintendo Switch sales in the first half of the fiscal year were extremely weak, relatively speaking. To add some perspective, the Nintendo Switch is currently outpacing the PS4 in global hardware sell in when launch aligned, yet the PS4 has never had a H1 as weak as Switch did last year (even 5/6 years on PS4 sales are consistent due to strong/constant 3rd party support. It doesn't matter if Sony doesn't have a game to launch.). It's why you may have seen news stories where some analysts were throwing out extremely low numbers for the full fiscal year, basing the total on what they were seeing in the first half. It's my opinion that one of the reasons behind the weak performance in the first half of the year was due to the first party software output from Nintendo. Whilst it wasn't necessarily bad, the flagship titles were mostly Wii U ports. Labo also launched but underperformed. The holiday quarter saw a massive boost in sales, with shipments accounting for 55% of Nintendo's current full year forecast of 17 million. The main reasons for the boost in sales was the release of key first party titles including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokemon Let's Go and Super Mario Party which have sold 27.4 million units combined in the last 3 months (Switch total HW is 32.3m). It's clear to me that high quality first party title releases are a key driver of hardware sales. Although, the strong holiday quarter was unable to offset the weak first half of the year, which is why the hardware forecast has now been reduced from 20m to 17m. To give another quick stat (and someone correct me if i've got the numbers wrong, but they should be close enough) - Nintendo has 18 published titles that have sold over 1 million units. Third parties have 9 titles that have sold over 1 million units. There are approx 28 Nintendo published titles on Switch, but over 1,500+ third party titles published on Switch. So that's why a strong pipeline of games from Nintendo is very much crucial to the success of Switch imo. As is increasing spend and engagement in these titles through DLC and other Add On content as well as the Switch Online sub. I'm aware that I'm kind of stating the obvious in this thread. But I just wanted to lay it all out and see what people think.
The million sellers list counts those digital titles and this data is based on revenue which includes eshop only titles.
Indeed. It's more that people are purchasing the system for Nintendo's games first, then taking advantage of the third party titles already on the system.
Here is the Japanese text: さらには18年9月に始めた月額課金によるスイッチ向けのオンラインサービスの強化。19年中にゲーム愛好家の高額課金者向けに新サービスを始めるもようだ。
This can be discussed in the Nintendo financial thread which has a top sellers on 3DS list.
It's published by Nintendo. Therefore it's a first party title. Nintendo list it as such in their financials.
Of course indie games are part of it.
Changed the tile as Octopath is classified as a first party title.
It seems this thread is a duplicate of the original here -
I believe so, yes.
Microsoft Corp. today announced the following results for the quarter ended December 31, 2018, as compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year: Gaming revenue increased 8% (up 9% in constant currency). Total gaming revenue was $4.23 billion, up 8% YoY. Xbox software and services revenue was up 31% YoY, driven primarily by third party title strength. Xbox hardware revenue was down 19% YoY due to a tough comp vs Xbox One X launch last year Xbox Live Monthly Active users are up 8% YoY to 64 million. (Includes Gold and Silver members across Xbox, Windows 10 and Smartphones).
I wouldn't read into random tweets.
Sony are skipping PS5 for PS6 because 5 means death in Portuguese.
Looks like it is fake folks. If there is further info then PM me or make a new thread.
Also those estimates for other games in the OP are based on VGChartz. So extremely inaccurate.
Make a thread if it actually happens.
Yeh. I reported it to them directly. Glad they changed it.
I'd read into the post below yours, especially the part about cross platform, online games and mobile. In general this continues NetEase's strategy (Other Chinese companies are doing the same) to invest in or acquire overseas developers to expand their global presence and also bring new experiences to China that augment their existing pipeline of games.
Don't make low quality threads like this.
I think Nintendo is confused.
Crackdown 3 first coverage should be out with the Inside Xbox on Feb 5th. Reviews are a week later on the 11th.
Sony are on track to have an extremely strong fiscal year. In fact this year will yield the best results for the Game and Network Services division in the company's history. Once again growth is being driven by the network services segment with full game downloads, add on content and subscription services boosting the bottom line. 2019 will be another solid year for the platform due to the large install base, growing network sales, strong third party software, first party software and back catalog. Lineup for the first half of the year is set but second half is still in flux. Sony also has a couple of unannounced games (already existing IP) with PS4 in mind but I'm conscious that there have been discussions around making them cross gen/next gen titles. In general, most of the focus for Sony 1P is on PS5 right now. It is still early to talk about next gen but I imagine we'll hear some whispers come out of GDC. Overall there is a push to further invest in PSN and focus on expanding the services ecosystem around the PlayStation brand. I'm not sure if much of it will be realised this year, but there is definitely a lot in the pipeline for next gen. Overall there isn't much to talk about right now. But when there is I'll update this post.
PS5 dev kits are out there and I've heard positive things about it. But I wouldn't expect any information in the immediate future.
I don't have that information unfortunately.
So here is some old info I have then I never posted. Essentially MP4 as a project started at the end of 2016/beginning of 2017. Bandai Namco Singapore worked on the pre-production phase which I believe ended before the trailer at E3 was shown. So that's how early Nintendo decided to announce that the game was in development. Game was based on Unreal 4 and was always going to be a 2019 or 2020 release. Bandai Namco Japan was brought on to work on the game and Nintendo studios were also assisting in various areas. From what I heard, Nintendo wanted to push MP4 to be a flagship title, so increased the budget and scope of the game to try and get it to that AAA level. Seems things weren't working for this reboot to happen.
Last year I made this post that outlined Microsoft's overall strategy for Xbox in 2018 - What was notable last year is that I said Microsoft would make an announcement the following week about its digital game services. The announcement was for first party games coming to Game Pass on day one. 2019 will very much be a continuation of what we saw last year from Microsoft. In terms of software, Microsoft's strategy for this year is to release the titles that have already been announced and issue updates / expansions for titles that are already on the market. Further expanding the company's GaaS strategy for first party titles. As I mentioned last year, a lot of the projects that Microsoft are working on are for 'next gen' so don't expect tons of new first party games be announced and released this year. The same goes for the studios that Microsoft acquired as a lot of them already have known games in development or are working on something for next gen. Although, I do know of one first party studio that will announce their new project this year. I don't need to say much about hardware because Microsoft's plans for a discless Xbox One S have already leaked. We'll hear more about that before E3. Of course this move really backs up Microsoft's digital push and cloud gaming push that we have seen in the past and will continue to see moving forward. Investment in services is a key priority for Microsoft at the moment. In terms of digital services, Microsoft will continue improving Xbox Game Pass this year. The types of content coming to the service will get better through Microsoft continuing to leverage its library (there are still big 1P games not on Game Pass) + through a new program introduced later this year. Game Pass will also receive new service offerings that give the consumer more choice. PC gaming will also be a focus this year with more options for PC gamers in terms of purchasing games and playing games. Not to mention new gaming features for Windows 10. Cloud gaming is the big thing everyone is talking about. Certainly some interesting things happening there and with other related services. We'll hear more about it this year but as far as I'm aware the full commercial launch is still a bit far out. The ultimate goal here is for the Xbox ecosystem to be accessible on any platform with full integration and interoperability. Lots of interesting things in the work for sure. E3 should be interesting in terms of software and services announcements. MS is still looking at other studio acquisitions too.
Yup. Already been one this year.
I don't think people should be too concerned about Nintendo Switch's pipeline for 2019. First quarter is certainly a bit light, but we'll get release dates and news for other titles coming in 2019 fairly soon. Nintendo's first party line up for 2019 is fairly strong and also a bit varied which is good to see. It's just Nintendo will require all of them to be received well because first party titles are one of the main drivers for Switch atm. Third party will be more of the same. By that I mean do expect ports of older titles. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but the amount of 'new' third parties (that aren't family / JP games) won't be that different from last year. Certainly a few big surprises this year though.
Obviously this means MP4 is going to be a Switch 2 launch title now.
NPD hasn't publicly put out the data I included in most of those tweets. The data in those tweets comes direct from Nintendo of America.
A combination of NPD, GfK and Famitsu numbers + other data I have access to.
Yes. Even the PS4 numbers are wrong. The Xbox One numbers don't make sense because annual sales in the US are higher than what's shown on that chart. Those numbers are just projections from a market research firm.
Just to clarify, the first part of the statement in the OP is talking about US sales data. That site has 43.2m as of December 29th though? So you're clearly misattributing the number. You can check for yourself. It's on the front page. Chartz isn't quoted here because the data is unreliable.
I'm under the impression most people are expecting (or maybe 'want' is a better word) a Switch Pro with powerful specs/features.
I think the next Switch SKU won't be what people here are expecting tbh.
Around 35% higher when launch aligned.Might fall slightly short in the end. However strong software sales will make up the revenue/profit difference.
Another stat I can give out. There were 5.16 million units of hardware sold in December 2018. Switch was just over 1/3rd of that. Nintendo total was 2.8m incl 3DS and NES/SNES Classic.
PS Classic wasn't anything special. NES and SNES Classic were doing better and they'd been out for a year +
Both numbers are rounded to the nearest million. I wouldn’t use them to work out annual sales.
Worth a watch if you're a fan of Sea of Thieves. Will be some tall tales to tell after the event. Also worth watching if you're a PC gamer.
Had a quick scan of the release. Strong performance for Switch this month. Best single month in hardware sell through for any console since December 2010. Smash Bros. had an extremely strong month with revenue notably over $200m. What's also notable is how well Nintendo first party software has performed this year, even titles that are over a year old. Installed base is now over 10.5m in the US. PS4 had a strong year for both hardware and software. First party was strong this year and overall software was extremely healthy for the full year (Thanks Red Dead). Annual hardware sales were down compared to 2017, but higher than 2016. Will be interesting to see how the console performs in 2019. Xbox One had a good year all things considered. Hardware was up YoY thanks to the release of the Xbox One X. Software remains healthy and I really need to stress how large the digital shares are on Xbox compared to other platforms. Global installed base now around 41m. Full game sales were up this year but it needs to be noted how digital game add ons, services and subscriptions continue to grow and account for a larger part of the pie each year. Overall 2018 was a positive year for the console games industry in the US.
When publishers realised that demo's weren't as effecting as open beta's.
What's funny is Tencent publishes the PUBG mobile ver and has a 48% share in Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite.
OP. Read the comments in this thread. Don't make a thread like this.
Na
Here are some numbers for comparison- Holiday 2013: 4.2m Holiday 2014: 4.1m Holiday 2015: 5.7m Holiday 2016: 6.2m Holiday 2017: 5.9m Holiday 2018: 5.6m Sony actually released holiday sell through figures a few other times as well. PS3 Holiday 2011: 3.9m PS3 Holiday 2009 - 3.8m PS2 Holiday 2003 - 7.83m* PS2 Holiday 2002 - 8.5m* PS2 Holiday 2001 -5.0m *Includes the full months of November and December
PS2 doesn't have a comparable sell through number. But its production shipment number was just under 90m when launch aligned. PS4 and PS2 have been tracking similarly (when launch aligned) for a while now.
This doesn’t mention anything about DLC. Please don’t make threads like this.
Changed the title to note two things. 1. This is based on Amazon US. 2. This is based on SKU's, not games. E.g. Red Dead at no 2 is just the PS4 SKU. So multi platform games or games with multiple SKU's are unlikely to reach the top 10 as sales are split between those different SKU's. Also worth noting that Amazon will likely do their own official list in the future which does combine SKU's.
Locking and redirecting to new thread-
I'd be careful of your words. This could be taken as hate speech.
It's all good. Just thought I'd say something.
Stop making these threads people. When a direct is announced just make a thread then.
Just make a thread when it hits an actual milestone. For now this discussion is already taking place in the media create thread.
To answer the above. It's mainly because of how holiday sales keep shifting more and more to November. I think Switch combined sales for Nov+Dec will be strong.
I'll probably end up being proven wrong. But I think it's unlikely we'll ever see a 2m+ December again. Don't disagree with the second line though.
I should probably clarify that adding the Souljaboy console to the ranking was a joke lol.
Here is the full hardware ranking by unit sales for anyone interested. 1. PS4 2. Switch 3. XB1 4. 3DS 5. Soulja Game Console
Going back to Fallout 76. Whilst the game didn't bomb. It's probably worth noting that FO4 sold 3x more than New Vegas did in its opening month. So FO76 not doing as well as New Vegas should show how poorly FO76 did in comparison to the last game. Granted, digital sales aren't included. I'm expecting FO76 sales to fall fairly drastically next month.
Fallout 76 certainly did ok. But the gap between it and Fallout 4's opening is substantial.
Could have done better. It didn't do as well as BF1.
OP updated to reflect best selling console hardware by both units and revenue.
Thanks to the NPD Group for the breakdown.November 2018 tracked spending across video game Hardware, Software, Accessories and Game Cards totaled $2.7 billion, flat when compared to a year ago. Gains in Hardware, Accessories and Game Card spending were offset by a decline in Software due to the shift of the launch of Call of Duty into the October month. Year-to-date spending across video game Hardware, Software, Accessories and Game Cards has grown 16 percent when compared to the same period a year ago, to $13.2 billion. This is the highest year-to-date total spend achieved since the $13.9 billion achieved between January and November 2010.Dollar sales of Console, Portable and PC Games Software totaled $1 billion in November 2018, declining 15 percent when compared to a year ago. The shift in launch timing for Call of Duty from November to October is the driver of the change. Year-to-date dollar sales of Console, Portable and PC Games Software exceeded $5.8 billion, a 9 percent increase over the same time period last year. This is the highest year-to-date total for Software spending since the $7 billion achieved in the year-to-date 2011 comparable period.Red Dead Redemption 2 is the best-selling game of November 2018 and is the 2nd best-selling game year-to-date. With two months in market, sales of Red Dead Redemption 2 now exceed the lifetime sales of the previous title in the franchise, Red Dead Redemption, by nearly 40 percent.Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is the second best-selling game of November, and remains the best-selling game year to date. Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is the second fastest selling game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in history, trailing only 2017's Call of Duty: WWII. This is the fifth consecutive year, and ninth time in the last 10 years, that a title from the Call of Duty franchise has been the best-selling game over the January through November time period Fallout 76 is the 4th best-selling game of November, despite digital not being reported for Bethesda Softworks published titles. Fallout 76 physical sales achieved the third highest launch month sales in franchise history, trailing only Fallout 4 and Fallout New Vegas.Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee are the #5 and #6 best-selling games of November, respectively. Launch month sales of Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu are the second highest in franchise history, trailing only Pokeman Stadium, which launched on the Nintendo 64 in the March 2000 tracking period. Please note that Pokemon Let's Go sales totals include only physical sales, as digital sales are not currently reported for Nintendo published titles. According to Nintendo, the titles have sold 2 million units in the US, including digital sales. Spyro Reignited Trilogy is the #9 best-selling game of November. The launch month dollar sales of Spyro Reignited Trilogy are more than 30 percent higher than the combined launch month sales of all other Spyro games in history (excluding Skylanders).Sony's God of War returns to the monthly top 20 best-sellers list for the first time since August, ranking as the #16 best-selling game of November. It is currently the #7 best-selling game year-to-date.For the 2018 year-to-date period, hardware spending has increased 14 percent, to $3.9 billion. Spending gains for Xbox One, Switch, PlayStation 4 and Plug N Play devices such as the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition have driven growth. For the first time in history, three Console platforms achieved more than 1 million units sold in a November month, as the Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One each generated over 1.3m units of sales. It is only the second time in history any 3 platforms achieved more than 1 million units sold in a November period, the first occurred in November 2010, when the Nintendo DS, Wii and Xbox 360 achieved the feat. PlayStation 4 was the leading hardware platform of November 2018 in unit sales. Nintendo Switch was the leading hardware platform of November 2018 in dollar sales. The PlayStation 4 remains the leader in hardware platform dollar sales year to date.Total spending on Accessories and Game Cards grew 35 percent in November 2018 when compared to a year ago, to an all-time high of $503 million. Year to date, Accessories and Game Card spending has grown 35 percent when compared to a year ago, to $3.5 billion. This is also an all-time high.
The issue with this method is that the number changes drastically based on whichever trophy you use. So I wouldn’t read too much into these numbers.
I don't know where your data is from but it's all incorrect and you're misleading people.
There isn't much to read into here.
For some reason we get a thread like this every month.
.
PS4 sales are now higher than the lifetime sales of PS3.
We confirmed their original claims in the post below, yes. We can't verify whether the data is 100% in line with NPD data though. It's better to wait till Tuesday for the public release.
I don't know about this. Data prior to 1995 is hard to find and also unreliable.
Back in the day Dec unit sales would be between 2 to 3x more than what was sold in November. These days you'll find December is generally higher, but not significantly so. Last year we saw PS4 and XB1 had lower sales in December. Which is just something you'd never see before. Black Friday deals are a much bigger..... deal.... these days.
The 360 surpassed the Wii in November 2014 in the US. But at this point both consoles weren't really selling much so the LTD gap between the two isn't really that significant.
This list should actually have PS1 entries for Dec 97, 98, 99. But I don't think those numbers are public. December used to be a much bigger month but now we're getting to the point where November is much bigger chunk of sales.
I think people forget that PS4 already has a large install base. They're banking on software and services sales.
Please put some effort into threads before posting. Consistently posting low quality threads can lead to a loss of thread making privileges. Also, we don’t need a thread for every outlet. If you want to create a GOTY thread that rounds up all the outlets then feel free to go ahead.
I'm impressed. Nov 18 is higher than Nov 17 in terms of units. Also, PS4 LTD is now officially higher than PS3 LTD in the US.
Peak years in the US (Counting launch year as year 1) NDS: 6th year PSP: 4th year 360: 7th year Wii: 3rd year PS3: 6th year 3DS 1st year Vita: 1st year Wii U: 3rd year PS4: 3rd year (So far) One: 3rd year (So far)
This doesn't back up most of what you said.
I did say more than 3x. So your assumption it's exactly 3x as much would be incorrect here.
This isn't how it works. Nintendo charge a combined fee for the cart, the packaging and distribution on the Switch platform. 32GB carts are more than 3x the cost you posted above.
Transformative online experience = it will be a video game.
It's a good list from Mat. But we don't need a thread for everyones personal GOTY list.
Don't remake this thread.
No one told Rockstar about the Switch until last month and it was too late.
Looks like this is fake.
The image is broken. Plus this doesn't need its own thread.
For Wii it was 25.95m and for DS it was 31.18m. Ultimately though the main driver of dedicated console business growth for Nintendo will be its first party title output + focus on digital games and services.
The debate as to whether they will ship 20 million or not is pointless imo. They'll hit their target for hardware and exceed it for software. The real question is how much Nintendo can grow its dedicated console business in the next fiscal year and beyond. The main drivers being software pipeline and hardware pricing/new models.
Took me two seconds -
This didn't need a bump.
Given the OP has zero explanations for why they think what they do this thread is being closed. Please put some effort into a thread when creating it. Thanks.
Let's get this thread back on track please. We're not interested in twitter drama. Thanks.
Top 5 are over 2 million. Top 10 are over 1 million.
*Reads Thread* Man. I can't believe every game is going to flop next year.
1. We don't know all the titles releasing next year. 2. This is just a list thread.
This is already in the NPD monthly thread. If you wanted to make this thread you could have rounded up all the tweets that Mat made today that cover things that aren't a part of the NPD Monthly thread.
Going to redirect this back to the OT.
This can be discussed in The Game Awards OT.
Take your pick of thread-
Feel free to make a thread when Nintendo announces a new direct.
See below-
RIP
Nintendo is publishing. Team Ninja / Koei Tecmo is developing it
As in they are developing it.
Yup. It's a Koei Tecmo game! I think this would be the Western collab they have been working on for some time.
Yo. Sign me up.
Well Final Fantasy XV is releasing for PC in 2018, so he's not wrong.
Redirecting to here-
It's not a rumor. It's real.
That drop down has been there since the beginning.
Last I checked the game had grossed over $400m lifetime.
How can The Last Story have a sequel when it's literally called The Last Story.
Same info is being discussed in this thread-
Feel free to create a new thread if this is reported by a reliable outlet. For now this can be discussed in the Microsoft first party thread.
I’m no longer excited.
Where is the 50k-100k number from? Steamspy?
According to who?
Darksiders 3 only just sold over 5k packaged copies
Don't do this
November 18 has a tough comp vs November 17. Combined hardware unit sales in November 17 were highest since November 11. (my comp ignores plug & play hardware).
Please don't make reaction threads.
Cool. I imagine digital sales would boost sales somewhat so it probably is higher than Brawl by a notable amount. But hard to know how much exactly.
Where does the 3.2 million come from for Sun & Moon?
Sometimes threads are locked because different mods make different judgement calls based on the information available at the time. That’s all it is. Next time just simply PM a mod asking why / to reconsider. The thread has been reopened.
I'm excited.
Unfortunately many Western devs have turned down pitches for a AAA open world game set in China due to the lack of appeal for that setting. (I'm excluding HK) It's mainly Asian companies creating MMO's, Strategy or Simulation games with an Ancient China setting.
I'm an analyst and I think they'll hit it easily.
Easily. Smash and Pokemon alone will be in the region of 20m+
Well that is certainly true, haha.
Just a quick note that we were able to verify this poster and the content of their posts.
.
I don't even know where to start with telling you how wrong this post is....
Basically it's like this. Those values are for total spending across console, PC and mobile. Also you've created a list where you're assuming the big Xbox markets = 0 for PlayStation. It's just not a good way to look at things. I get the overall point you're trying to make, but it doesn;t quite work the way you presented it.
There is this thread that might work?
It's up to you. I wasn't sure what approach you were going for. I'm just conscious that thread has a bit of info regarding WB Montreal and Rocksteady.
I'm going to echo what others have said. This is an episodic game. There was no promise for how long the wait would be for the next episode. There really isn't an issue here other than impatience. This doesn't need to be a thread.
Why would I be talking about revenue?
Pricing is still very important for a consoles success. So I'd expect this to be reserved for a high end model / mid gen upgrade.
Not the majority, but a very healthy amount.
Tell me about it. It's always an x centric forum according to someone.
Firstly you say that being 'in 3rd place' isn't phenomenal. But that's not what the title and OP is talking about. What's phenomenal is how the Xbox One X is doing and how that has led to sales increase YoY. Secondly you say that without context it means nothing. But all the context you need is in the OP. Thirdly you mention that Microsoft talks about revenue when this has nothing to with what is in the OP. Your final statement is just console war nonsense.
This is absolutely the wrong way to think about things. Not everything has to be console wars.
The main point is that Xbox One sales in 2017 were lower than any other prior year in the US (excluding 2013). In 2018 the unit sales are more inline with 2015/16 which were the two peak years for the system. It remains to be seen whether Xbox One will have a record year, but it's still significantly up from last year. It goes to show the impact that the Xbox One X release has had on Xbox One family sales in the US. The PS4 has seen a similar thing as well with sales notably up from last year. Whilst there are multiple reasons why total sales are up, it is worth noting that One X and Pro are one of the main reasons.
This can be discussed in the Nintendo PR thread.
Redirecting to here with updated OP-
The thread has run its course at this point.
Replaced with online beta's because they work better in terms of promotion.
For sure. Bloomberg has a habit of doing it as you say. The Tencent articles have also been a bit OTT imo, focusing on the negative whilst ignoring crucial context / other information. The points I noted in my previous post are very real things that analysts are looking at and discussing. But the way this article has been presented does a huge dis-service to those real concerns.
The concern stems from the Switch's current lack of broader appeal, weaker than expected first half sales and also underperformance from other segments such as mobile and online. It's a bit overblown if you ask me, especially when Switch is set to have a strong holiday. The Switch is a success in every sense of the word, sure it's not Wii&DS era, but people shouldn't be expecting that.
Stop cancelling games, bro! Moving discussion here-
That's the Virtual Boy LTD.
Also it sold out after 39 seconds.
Fun Fact. PS4 will overtake the PS3 LTD in the US this month.
NPD projects to 100% of the market anyway.
It wasn't the same amount of days in the comp. Which makes it a bit difficult to say it's over 800k. It likely would be though. (Sorry for being pedantic lol)
I don't think we do?
Gotta factor in the 1 million units that were returned when people realised they couldn't play Spider-Man on it ofc ;) But for reals. Nintendo PR always sucks because their numbers are always out of line with the reality. Wait for NPD.
Please don';t make list threads, thanks.
This is the same for everyone in the console business... As pointed out above, this was also the case last year when Switch launched in March. The holiday quarter is always the highest by far.
Please post your individual impressions or take-aways from this in the existing leak thread.
Yes, both stopped reporting numbers. There isn't a final LTD for both.
We have UK digital numbers from a GSD report last year. So I'm just using those as a baseline. Basically Crash's physical sales are at the point where adding 2017's digital sales takes you over 1m.
Bruno will make it once the full charts are out.
Hitman 2 still hasn't sold 20k physical copies. Horizon 4 won't ever reach Horizon 3 LTD on the physical charts and that's purely because of the continued shift to digital and lack of digital data from GfK.
More than double.
Nope. Switch has taken that spot now.
FIFA 19, BO4 and RDR2 were the best selling titles this week. Exclusives like Forza, Spiderman and Pokemon did well. Fallout 76 continues to struggle and Battlefield V had a worse opening than Spyro (Physically at least).
To give a rough comp. BF1 physical opening was 3x higher, roughly.
Pikachu continues to outsell Eevee almost 2 to 1. Fun Fact: Just Dance 2019 sold more on Wii than on PS4 or XB1.
Oh and Crash Bandicoot is now over 1m in the UK (Incl. digital).
Black Friday week, yes.
This is inline with numbers from last year where 300,000+ consoles were also sold during BF 2017. PS4 was also top then too.
In total, 20 million.
I hate to repeat myself in every thread but we are getting to the point where GfK data is pretty much irrelevant due to the lack of digital sales tracking. There is no doubt that Battlefield V, even when accounting for a 100% digital share, sold less than BF1. But without the full picture it's hard to know exactly how well it did and whether the comps in the OP would be accurate if digital is factored in for all titles.
This thread has enough answers.
It was an avatar bet.
That's cool. But doesn't need its own thread.
From what I've noticed the title does make a difference a lot of the time. Which is a shame, because an opinion shouldn't lead to such a strong reaction. Some posts on the first page have been actioned so hopefully we see less of this going forward.
If I'd have seen this thread earlier I would have updated the title then to avoid all the drive by comments on the first page.
Let's keep this thread about The Avengers, not twitter accounts. Thanks.
PlayStation Classic.
.
This can be discussed in the main PAL Charts thread.
No.
I have to agree with this post. Nintendo centric blog sites like Nintendo Soup have a history of taking minor pieces of news and then reframing the situation to make it sound bigger or more important than it actually is.
This can be asked in the OT or other VR threads.
. Not to mention we already had a thread on the main news story itself.
Feel free to make the thread again with a better title and more context. Thanks.
Playing FIFA 19 really ruined FIFA 18 for me.
Hopefully the responses in this thread are useful for the OP.
.
Updated with a better title.
The text in the OP doesn't do a great job at providing all the information and context. If a new thread is made it needs to contain that. Thanks.
Can you confirm whether Halo 4 is above Halo 3 or below. I think Halo 3 should be first, no?
Don't drink and post, OP.
You've made your point. Move on. There is no need to constantly derail a thread like this.
This is just a list thread with zero discussion.
I like how GTAV is still in the top 20 chart for the month and the top 10 YTD chart.
Thanks to the NPD Group for the breakdown. The $1.55 billion in October 2018 dollar sales represents the highest total spend for a month of October since The NPD Group began tracking the industry in 1995. The previous high was $1.36 billion reached in October 2008. Year-to-date spending across video game Hardware, Software, Accessories and Game Cards has grown 21 percent when compared to the same period a year ago, to $10.5 billion. This is the highest year-to-date total spend achieved since the $10.9 billion achieved between January and October 2010. Dollar sales of Console, Portable and PC Games Software totalled $965 million in October 2018, more than doubling compared to a year ago. This represents an all-time high for PC & Video Games Software spending in an October month. The previous best of $743 million was reached in October 2008.Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is the best-selling game of October. Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII launch month dollar sales represent the 8th highest in Video Game history since The NPD Group began tracking in 1995. Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII instantly becomes the best-selling game of the year, and the 2nd best-selling game across the past twelve month period, trailing only Call of Duty: WWII.With just nine days of reported sales, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the second best-selling game of October 2018 and is now also the second best-selling game year to date. Red Dead Redemption 2 launch month sales more than tripled those of the previous title in the series, Red Dead Redemption, which launched May 2010.: Assassin's Creed: Odyssey repeated its September success, again ranking as the third best-selling game of the month. In September, the game had double-digit percentage dollar sales growth when compared to the launch of Assassin's Creed: Origins a year ago.Super Mario Party climbs the charts this month to rank fifth in October sales after its September debut placed it at number nine in the rankings. Over each title's first two months in market, Super Mario Party is now the third fastest selling Mario Party game in history, trailing only Mario Party and Mario Party 8. Soul Calibur VI debuts as the sixth best-selling game of October. Soul Calibur VI achieved the third highest launch month dollar sales for the franchise in tracked history, trailing only Soul Calibur IV and Soul Calibur II.Activision Blizzard was the highest revenue generating publisher for the month of October, while Take-Two Interactive has achieved the highest total revenue year to date. For the 2018 year-to-date period, hardware spending has increased 19 percent, to $2.7 billion. Spending gains for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Plug N Play devices such as the NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition continue to drive growth.PlayStation 4 was October's best-selling hardware platform in both units and dollars sold. PlayStation 4 hardware unit sales achieved an all-time October high for the platform, while PlayStation 4 hardware dollar sales reached its highest point for an October month since October 2014. October 2018 unit sales of PlayStation 4 reached the highest mark for any PlayStation hardware platform in an October month since the PlayStation 2 in October 2002.Total spending on Accessories and Game Cards grew 54 percent in October 2018 when compared to a year ago, to an all-time high of $280 million. Year-to-date, Accessories and Game Card spending has grown 35 percent when compared to a year ago, to $3 billion. This is also an all-time high, besting the $2.2 billion generated in the 2017 year-to-date period.Consumer spending on Headsets & Headphones doubled in October when compared to a year ago, while Gamepad spending increased 63 percent. Turtle Beach was October's leading manufacturer of Headsets & Headphones, while Sony ranked as the best-selling manufacturer of Gamepads.
Why OP?
Given the info in this thread it looks like there are other ads on the Macy's.com site which were left out of the OP/original tweet. Locking this thread.
This is a good post. This applies to a lot of content creators today unfortunately.
GTA V combining all versions.
That would be the case here, yes. I'm also 99% certain it should be Super Mario 64. Not Mario Kart 64 It's also why Wii Fit and Fit Plus are so high.
Knock it off.
Hah. I just looked at the edit history and we're seconds apart :P Well to be fair, DS games still haven't had a price drop since launch :P
Because this is ranked on dollar sales, Wii Fit is #1 because its ASP was close to $100. Titles over 10m in unit sales are Wii Play, Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros. Wii & New Super Mario Bros. DS
Tbh I'm basing the 7m number on number 10 in the rank.
Everything on that list is over 7m.
This doesn't need to be a thread.
This can probably be discussed in the OT. Thanks.
People can join Resetera for whatever reason they want. As long as people stay within the rules and guidelines it's all good :)
Locking this for now. If this is reported by a more reliable source then feel free to make a new thread.
Pokemon had a solid opening. Will be interesting to see how the game sells through the rest of the year. Spyro was extremely strong, about the same as Crash Bandicoot opening. Fallout 76 sold considerably less than Fallout 4, as well as Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It's a very disappointing opening but of course digital sales are not factored in so it looks a lot worse than it actually did. Hitman 2 couldn't even reach 15k at UK retail. The charts are actually interesting for once. But without digital sales it's hard to get a precise look at how the games have performed.
That's cool. But we have an OT plus other similar threads.
Just a quick reminder that posts should be in English on the main forum. It's fine in community/hangout threads ofc. Thank you.
No. This is official data from Sony's Game Division that was restated by them. It is correct.
Just a heads up that we don't normally allow self promotion in the form of new threads. But contributing to an already existing thread is cool of course :) P.S. You left out my quotes from the original report :(
This can be discussed in NPD prediction threads.
I'll redirect this one to the other thread.
I know this isn't exactly a port begging thread, but it's kinda a port begging thread.
Updated the title.
120k Pikachu ver. was the best selling one by a notable amount.
We can have a thread on this when it happens.
Added details to the title and OP. Please ensure that you title threads correctly and add detail to the OP next time.
.
That's not how it works OP. Read some of the comments here and do some research before making another thread.
I think you got the answer OP.
2019 will be interesting.
The majority of revenue from the Tegra segment is for Switch. It's been that way since Switch launched. Basically. Nintendo's inventory level is extremely high, but at the same time it is surprising to see Tegra shipments decline like this.
Nvidia reported Q3 2018 results yesterday; Third quarter revenue came in below expectations and guidance for the rest of the year was weaker than expected. Essentially we are post crypto boom so things are slowing down a bit. In addition to Nvidia's stock price taking a hit, Nintendo also saw its largest drop in two years due to news regarding Tegra processor shipments during the traditionally high 'seasonal period'. In addition to being down YoY and QoQ, Nvidia reported that they expected to see minimal sales of Tegra shipments in Q4 too. This does make sense as Q3 shipments are mostly for the holiday and Q4 shipments would be for after holiday. Nintendo is targeting 20 million Switch shipments this fiscal year. Investors are concerned that this news could point to Nintendo failing to hit this target.
We already had this thread. It can be discussed in the general TGA thread.
I think the question was answered in the first few posts.
Just use the nominations thread please. We don't need a new thread for every game that wasn't nominated. Also, get well soon.
Well said. Besides. Phil Spencer's comments can already be found in this thread here.
It was fun to watch for me. I know a lot of people are taking this as a negative and reacting strongly. But tbh Sony doesn't need to have an E3 conference when it can announce new games, services and hardware in its own time and on its own terms.
There it is.
Nothing.
'Today' covers a 24 hour period where I'm from.
Honestly. I don't think those tweets are related.
I think Sony made a mistake on its infographic. The 86.1 million number is indeed sell in as of Sep 30th 2018. The 777.9m software number was originally reported as sell through as of June 30th 2018. But the infographic labels it as 'sell in'. Awkward.
Today will be fun to watch.
This can be discussed in the general thread.
I..... I... simply meant we wouldn't get the release date there.... Y'all read into stuff too much.
I wouldn't expect a release date there.
Amazon sales threads tend not to produce good discussion due to how Amazon calculates and presents it data. Also, the list is SKU based. Which means the OP is slightly misleading.
This can be discussed in the main game awards thread.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is just an enhanced port of Activision's Boxing for the Atari 2600.
Please don't make reaction threads to other threads that have already been locked. Thank you.
I'll allow it.
Red Dead Redemption sold 1.5 million units in its opening month according to NPD.
RDR2 now over 1 million at retail in the UK.
heh
I would be watching this event for the studio announcements. But I'm currently in exile from live streaming sites.
if you're an Xbox fan there will be plenty of stuff here for you. It's mainly going to revolve around updates/new info for already released/announced first party and third party games for XB1. Xbox Game Pass strategy will continue to evolve, with a handful of big games coming to the platform this year + we'll see BC games get a mention. A few new interesting games will be announced for Xbox. MS will also share more on its current studio buying spree Just don't go into this expecting an E3 type event or tons of new announcements and it'll be good.
Void Bastards looks cool.
The game has 150m registered users in China btw, which is super impressive.
Correct.
I wouldn't read into this. EDIT: Oh, you edited the OP. Sorry, I had this open from earlier. Yeh, the mentions of 2 player co-op + wrecking zone are correct.
Ok. Ignore what I said a couple of days ago. MS pulled through. Hype back on.
To be clear. I'm referring to a specific post I made. Not talking about the general vibe of the event. That hasn't changed.
I know the question has already been answered. But Newzoo estimates total game software and services sales. Hardware is excluded. That's why Sony and Nintendo are lower than the actual totals.
That Zhuge dude was right!
Tencent? More like Ten billion dollars. Amirite?
It's pretty simple. Do you like Xbox? Do you like MS's currently released first party games? Do you like MS's upcoming titles? Do you like third party games currently affiliated with Xbox? Do you like Xbox Game Pass and Xbox BC? Do you like games? If you answer yes then there will be plenty of stuff here for you.
Then why would I post in this thread for the last two pages?
You guys ever read Blue Manchu Comics?
Game Pass could see some cool updates if MS utilise their partnerships/acquisitions portfolio of games.
Pretty much. Don't go into this thinking it's E3. There is some cool stuff. But most of it is updates and new stuff for already existing software/services.
What Jason said should help work out what won’t be announced at the event.
For good reason.
People were reading into something that isn’t happening.
A couple of people in this thread have the right idea.
I didn’t say that either.
For ref. the original was at around 15m shipped at last count.
Just to clarify. i'm talking about the original releases. I'm not including sales of GTA III on mobile or PS2 on PS4 classics for example. Just the original gen 6 release.
Announced on the Take Two conference call. What's surprising is that it is very much a consistent seller. It's the game of the generation with many buying the game when they pick up a current gen console. For reference. Minecraft is the best selling paid game when combining sales of the Console, PC and Mobile versions with over 150m sold. GTAV is second. GTAV has now sold more than GTA III, VC, SA, and IV combined. (Tetris technically sold more than both titles when you combine all the versions of the game).
Mobile and tablets helped the game a lot.
.
Second half of 2019 according to WSJ. Feel free to discuss the rumor in that thread-
To be fair, GTAV would have been number 2 if you compare it to the openings of a couple of earlier COD's.
PS1 had nearly 80 titles that sold over 1 million in the US. N64 had around 30. But N64 had games like Mario 64, Goldeneye, Mario Kart and Zelda which sold more than the top selling PS1 games.
Guitar Hero would still be higher than Halo 3 in 2007 by units. Game was crazy y'all. Wii Play would be number 1 by units in 2008, only just beating out GTA IV.
You can see how it lines up with the list in OP.
BTW. To give a quick comparison. SM64 - 1996 sales = 1.6 million Call of Duty BO3 - 2015 sales = 9.5 million
Yes. Rock Band cost a lot more than a $60 game. That's the only one with a big difference though.
So this Call of Duty game sounds popular.
This is probably something that can be discussed in the OT. The 150 posts of answers in this thread should also help.
No worries. It was reported a couple of times so thought I'd just update it.
Edited the title.
It'll be out next month, yeh.
Pretty much. Although maybe they'll announce its actual existence earlier or something.
If there is a reliable source then PM me or create a new thread. Thanks.
AC Origins has sold notably more than 10 million worldwide. Also. You are using VGChartz numbers as a source. VGChartz is a banned source here as the numbers are unreliable and incorrect. Please don't use it as a source. Thank you.
The bolded is the case here. AC Odyssey has seen lower retail sales in the UK than Origins. It's not that uncommon as the UK physical market is in decline. Globally we know Odyssey is doing well and that digital share is up 10 percentage points versus Origins. So whilst the game is down physically in the UK, it does look like digital sales are up. Anyway. Let's get this thread back on topic.
We already had a thread that was closed for obvious reasons.
Week 2 was 64/36.
The time limits have been in place since July 2017 last year. The main news is the upgrade of the real nami identity system + roll out of anti addiction system to all games.
This was the same website that last week was wrong about the Smash Diredt and a N64 mini being announced. If you keep saying there will be a direct next week then you’re bound to end up right at some point.
The tweet was very clearly stating a simple fact yet many here decided to freak out and make everything personal. Bruno can make the new thread as usual and hopefully this console war nonsense stops here. This thread will remain locked.
Let’s knock off this nonsense please. We can all discuss the performance of a game without personal attack’s.
Just FYI. Those numbers are actually incorrect. They turned out to be overinflated NPD numbers from old leaks / some were Chartz data.
Tomb Raider sold well but is a bit outside the top 10. NPD seems to track Resident Evil and Directors Cut separately so that's why it's not high up. If you combine them it still falls outside the top 10.
Whilst all the games on the PS1 and N64 lists are million sellers. Dreamcast only had one million seller and no Saturn game could even get to half a million.
The PlayStation One era. Back when Driver 1 and Driver 2 sold more than double GTA1 and GTA 2.
Nope. Just units sold on the original console.
NPD analyst was kind enough to share the best selling games for the PS4, XB1 and Vita in the US earlier this week. You can read that thread here- We now have new data which shows the top 10 best selling games (by revenue) for legacy consoles including Sony's PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy Color, Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast. Note. Sales tracking begins in January 1995 and the top 10 is ranked on dollar sales, not unit sales. NPD tracks physical and digital video game sales in the U.S. Source:
Fun Fact. If you add up the sales of GTA V on PS4/XB1, the total is actually higher than what Grand Theft Auto IV sold on PS3/360. I guess this is impressive when you consider GTAV also released on PS3/360 and sold more than GTAIV there too.
As far as I'm aware this isn't something that Blizzard would have power over. It can be discussed in the main thread. If there is evidence that Blizzard did something a new thread is fine.
Why can't we just agree both the Wii U and Vita failed.
Was an accident. You good with the current title?
I think that was the Virtual Boy.
If you want to know how poor Vita sales were. Unit 13 is just over 200k and Uncharted is barely over 400k.
The big spike in 2013 for action was of course GTAV.
For reference, I put this chart together a couple of years ago which shows the rise of shooters in the US.
Mario Kart is included in racing.
Btw. When you look at first party vs third party you should always use the 80/20 rule for MS/Sony platforms. 80% of the sales are from third party games. 20% are from 1st party games. The split in the US isn't far off that rule. (Actually both Sony and MS are skewing a bit lower than 20%).
Rainbow Six is an interesting case. Its opening month was considerably low compared to the heavy hitting titles you see in the top 10. But it has continued to sell quite well each month to the point that unit sales are now quite high. But it is worth noting the game has been discounted a lot. So it doesn’t rank as high on the revenue chart as it would on a chart by unit sales. It’s almost a very similar case to Battlefield 4 which also saw heavy discounting.
Switch software sales passed Vita LTD software sales in December 2017.
I'm talking about in the US, not worldwide.
Vita means Love.
Btw. If this list included bundles and was ranked on unit sales then Borderlands 2 and COD would be top.
I promise I'll stop after this one. Vita software in the US was so bad that the top 5 Wii U games combined sold more than every single Vita game combined (Packaged Software comp only)
You'd need a top 30 for that.
NPD didn't track Minecraft because it was a digital code.
Fun Fact. If you add together the LTD unit sales of the top 10 PS Vita games in that list, it's roughly equal (slightly higher but whatever) to what Spider-Man sold in its first month.
Btw. One of the reasons WW2 is higher than BO3 on this list, other than the fact it was well received by the public, is that WW2 didn’t have last gen versions. So all the sales are on PS4/XB1 and not split between 4 consoles. Also, BO3 was heavily bundled whilst WW2 wasn’t.
It's not uncommon for mobile games in China by the same publisher to share assets. There isn't enough evidence to say it's the same game, but if it is then this is just a version built for the West. Btw, the English name for this game is ETERNAL REALM.
We just had this thread. NetEase is the developer of a number of games in the MMORPG category. It's not uncommon for them to share features or assets. That doesn't mean it's simply a reskin but it could be similar to a situation like when Machine Zone made FFXV A New Empire. It can be discussed in the main Diablo Immortals thread.
