Thread What developers/publishers did you lose interest in/stop being a fan this past gen? and which ones did you become a new fan of?
Lost interest in: SNK - Trashy designs, losing a lot of what I liked about the games visually. The transition into 3D still feels rough. Animations are looking ok in fights but the general aesthetics doesn't give the same feelings as the 2D art. The sexualisation of characters feels out of control and really bad. Bungie - Played heaps of Destiny and Destiny 2. I definitely enjoyed a lot of it. There is nothing else quite like it and I'm glad I've played them. I just feel that the did great on gameplay but much of the game design such as currency, tower, progression, GAAS content generation, rewards etc didn't land well with me. After two games and significant time investment I'm incredibly burnt out on the gameplay which is the only part that kept me going back. Gained interest in: Chucklefish - Games are both beautiful and fun. Supergiant - I was late to the party in playing Transistor and Pyre, both are fantastic. Hades is on my to play list real soon and I heard nothing but praise for it. The art looks wonderful too. Capcom - I mean, I've always been a fan I guess. But they definitely reminded me of why with RE2, RE7, MH and I haven't even got to DMC5 yet.

Thread LTTP: Morrowind is both atmospheric and bewildering
Assassination is from the expansion. Don't follow that just yet it can be pretty tough. Do not wear ordinator armor in front of ordinators. They will issue a KOS on you for wearing their sacred armor. If you take to Mae's guild teleporter from Balmora to Caldera there is a building with a scamp in it named Creeper. He has 5000 gold and buys things at full price regardless of disposition. His gold will reset daily and is useful for pawning off larger amounts of items/expensive things. Pay attention to your little status icons. Occasionally check them from the status menu and take not of red icons/debuffs. You can get some small nuisances like common diseases but one of the more annoying conditions comes from a common disease and turns far more troublesome.

Thread LTTP: Morrowind is both atmospheric and bewildering
Useful spells for sure but casting recall when you need to can be.... unreliable. Just the nature of how the game handles magic with the chance to fail casting. Recall Scrolls and Intervention scrolls are items for emergency escapes or convenient retreats. Its usually nice to have some even when you can actually cast the spells yourself.

Thread Games with under the radar amazing mod scenes.
Like, I don't think it is technically a mod "scene" but I'm going to bring it up because I'm a massive fan of the game and only just became aware of it. There appears to be a mod for Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. The mod is called One Vision, it changes a lot of things on the gameplay side that I have whinged about in the past such as the imbalance of the RT stat/generation making classes such as tanks hugely ineffective at doing their job. A quick glance says this mod has been in the works for at least 2 years and the most recent update was 2 Jan 2021.... That is a week ago. Seems like a labor of love to me and I'm grateful this exists. I believe this is the official change . It is extensive and has a lot of details of love rather than necessity such as changing the avatars of Obda and Berda so they are now visually distinguishable. Shame I don't have a way to play any more. Went to hunt an appropriate pic for TOLUCT but I landed on this tweet instead. Dunno if it is the same as the on era (if not I apologise for the notification) but If anyone has tried it I would love to hear some impressions too. Looks like we had an but it generated very little interest/discussion. I guess it is somewhat expected being a game currently tied to the PSP.

Thread After playing Genshin Impact I don't feel like I need to experience BOTW anymore
Just don't play it right now OP. They have a similar skin and there are a lot of inspirations, almost direct copies in some elements within Genshin but they are ultimately very different still. Which game you like more will probably vary depending on person. I think BoTW overall plays a bit better but some of the scenery and locations in Genshin blow BoTW out of the water for me. It is hard to compare combat for example, while one is strictly an action, the other is an RPG through and through. If you don't feel like playing BoTW that is fine. But I suggest you stop comparing it to Genshin so much because they excel in different areas and it is all too easy to focus on the parts one does better which distracts from the game you play next's strengths.

I visit for old text guides and some browsing. I rarely engage. Especially since most of the time I'm visiting old game haunts with less than 5 posts that year. In my time there i haven't experienced anything too out there, mostly similar to stuff from the likes of Reddit or various other game forums. That said, I don't go to the social boards nor do I go into controversial topics there.

Ok. I guess I'll change disband/abandon ours and we move over to yours. Maybe kick the long term inactives, you can invite them back if requested at a later date. The max is quite small IIRC which is part of why two guilds are used at times but given many have fallen off I think this merge makes the most sense.

How many of the 24 are checking in, say every 2 days, 48hrs? I figure a number of our guild members have simply stopped playing and some were randoms any way. It might be better to just merge in which case I think we can move over to your guild and we can see how things go just to make it easier with the era naming. My FP is getting close to max evo. 5 more to go. Didn't really like beth so I just did a few rounds of bianca's weapon in hopes of a limit break, didn't get it though.

So I noticed that I am now the guildmaster. There seems to be only 6 of us, including myself active in the past 48hrs. I'm wondering if we should stay or maybe even move to El Sloth's. Note that the guild is using Gacha Era's guild name and seems to be their running meme. As it stands, we are pretty low effort. I really enjoy the game and play a little daily as time permits but I can't say I can participate consistently or tend to guild matters. if everyone wants to assume the title or just stay and just chill while grabbing casual guild boss gems every reset that is fine too. Guess I'll ping the members I can find in discord.

Thread Surgery/Cancer ERA: how come no one mentioned anything about the urine catheter?
When I was young, in hospital a nurse tripped over my catheter. Not so severely that it came flying out but the pain was unreal. To this day I still I like to share the story when this topic comes up there, though I barely remember any details any more. On a more serious note. Fuck cancer. Hope you're OK OP.I do remember burning pain and having trouble but not to that degree. I remember my nurse told me if I can't manage to empty my bladder then they'll have to empty it via catheter, then I can try again until the build up is too much. I was scared and I don't think that helped me go at all lol. The first go was weak and painful. It was also not a complete flush and empty. But with each one it got easier and less painful. To be honest, I feel like my mind has selectivedly chosen to forget some of these details.

YKK is indeed great beginner hammer practice. One thing I want to bring up is not directly related to the YKK but more of a distant cousin. Yian Garuga. I know that they are completely different monsters but with a similar enough name and build I was not at all prepared for YG. It took everything charming and funny from YKK and made it terrorizing. I loved it. YG would not have given me such a strong impression if not for the comparison to YKK and realising how far you have come as a hunter by comparing these two milestones.

I guess I'll save for the next hero. I really need a good earth and balance element. They say Tinia and Nari are good heroes but I don't like either of them. Is Idol Eva any good? I got both her and her ex pulling for some other characters. I actually have regular Eva + ex way up to 55 and some fair awakening. She was one of my early heroes but the fact that she stands still to attack makes her feel less useful overall. I have mileage and I dunno who I should pickup or which weapon. Considering Ohgma or Miya. I'm really lacking in plain and earth element though. I have the earth archer and nari but I don't really like their characters. >.> If only I lucked into Bari. I feel like spending mileage on 4* weapons is probably not worth it right? I was looking through the book. Does Fei/Mei have an ex? A casual observation from coliseum is that tanks are sort of op. They do less damage but still have a fairly decent dmg output. Their survivability however is miles ahead of any other character. Throw in a decent healer and you can often outlast bosses in pve. It just doesn't seem fair, the damage from non-tanks doesn't make up for all the little mistakes you might make on a map.

Yeah. The game is oddly generous with the gems. I was pulling on Ohgma like a mad man but just couldn't get him. I got most of my 3* from that actually. I ended up trying to pull his weapon in theory that I'll pull some weapons for off banner heroes I had too. It just sort of fell into place like that. I still need an Ohgma though lol. >.< Also, I've come across some missions that involve using ranged heroes but none of my attacks can reach the enemy. Is there a specific weapon type I am meant to use? My go to is executive red hood but I tried Tinia and Hekate who are a bit under leveled but they can't even reach the enemy either. or is it more specific weapon than type?

Spent my almost 20k crystals and got Miyu, so now I have a proper healer. No luck on anything else. I actually got Miyu early and started pulling on her weapon with a dip into Bari now and then but ended up with nothing for the rest of my pulls. Not even a ghosting Ohgma >.> The ability to do mini evolutions seems really benefitial. I put in my 700 Eugene stones and now she is in fact quite a bit stronger. Others got little power ups as well. I don't know if I want to pull on Miyu's weapon again or try my luck once more on Bari, mostly hoping for Bari and a off chance of Ohgma. I feel that collecting unique weapons without their heroes isn't as exciting. I'll probably use my mileage on a weapon for a hero I like. What is the typical power up path? 5* evo first hero to grind 5*ing others? I see that beyond awakening the rest is for limit breaking including weapon LB. I dunno how viable that is to pursue as a F2Per. I've also mostly been slapping on random accessories. Is there something I should aim for there? I sort of steer towards stats that seem useful depending on hero so def for Marina and such but beyond that I haven't done much else.I check in and do raid when I remember. I usually only see about 4-8 members checking in. Not sure how many actually bother with the raid, especially given you need multiple teams. For the most part I'm enjoying the bosses. Fuck the witch though. The boss doesn't manage to hurt or kill my units often but just jumps around and throws projectiles that I can't seem to dodge which also interrupts my shit. I actually like this game more than Genshin. Other than the gacha element they are pretty much entirely different though and I see no real point in comparing them beyond that. I was very lukewarm towards GT at first and went through 4 worlds and Eugene's event before I finally started to really enjoy it.

I guess I've already spent some hero crystals but I didn't dump into a single and spread it to finish off 4*ING some of my stronger heroes like executive redhood and marina. I'll go dump on one and see how far I can push them. Thanks for the tips and suggestions. New healer might be good but I'm hesitant to split resources on yet another hero for now. Marina is currently my second strongest purely because she will out live every other character unless fighting a ton of earth elements. However, my first two uniques are probably the most invested. They are Eugene and Vash, Vash I have fallen off a bit because she has no survivability and is harder to control. She is almost all DPS for me and I'm not good enough at controlling her for it to be viable in story. In PvP type stuff Marina is so common and will outlive Vash easily being elementally advantaged and tanky on top. My basic heroes aren't great. I'll probably invest in the knight since s/he will always be useful as they have bonus in rift rewards. But that is probably more useful later. For now I'm pushing Eugene since she is the closest to 5* as I've had her the longest. I can clear the fire/light evo 70 dungeons but some of the others are still a struggle. Thread Have you ever enjoyed a "bad" game because it offered something unique or was a diamond in the rough?
I think I get what you mean with the super hero build up. It reminds me of my experience with Xenoverse series. You create a character in the Dragonball universe and time travel junk food plot allows you to fight through alternate versions of the story alongside series favourite heroes/villains. That you can pick a mentor to train under and learn their techniques was really neat. I'd love to see something like this for X-Men or FMA for example. As for the thread premise, Koei Tecmo's warriors series are like my casual comfort games. Just smashing through armies, taking over bases etc. The combat is generally pretty basic but also just flashy enough to keep me entertained. On harder difficulties it is less about actual constant challenge but rather not getting stun locked or caught off guard by enemies that can quickly shut you down. Using your op specials become more of a panic button when things go south, while familiarising your Moveset to wipe enemies before they are a threat is just an extension of earlier levels. The games are repetitive, the characters are often one dimension and stuck within story constrains. Character balance is also not great but I enjoy the games a lot nevertheless.

Thread Poll: Has Genshin Impact convinced you to pay into the gacha system?
As a f2p player and someone who has played a lot of gacha games, some even spending a bit of money I have no intention of spending in GI thus far. 1. Rates are awful. 2. Combat for the most part seems skill based and having a slot of 4 characters gives a lot of versatility. 3. Somewhat favourable RNG for my f2p pulls leads to less desire to try and get more rare stuff. 4. I'm undecided if I actually want to keep playing for the long haul. 5. The surrounding system of the game feels poised for power creep and more abusive exploitation down the track. While this is something many gacha games do, I rarely have concerns about it this early. Though perhaps it is just a pacing/content issue. I am usually fairly content and the walls/grinds seem further ahead on the horizon in other gacha. 6. Part of the overall gacha genre GaaS setup involves content updates, banners etc. I'll need to see some of this to get a better gauge of what I'm in for in the longer run which I would then use to gauge whether I want to put money into it or not.

Thread discuss Dynasty Warriors
Its actually part of the package. Knowing when to ignore mobs and just diving through enemy territory to complete vital objectives is actually something I always enjoyed from the series when it is on offer. It isn't that kind of strategy that I look for after some decent combat/move sets. These are the things that distinguishes the maps and games for me. On harder difficulties, travelling from one part of the map to another without clearing everything and getting 50% hp chunked if you get caught by an archer in the back for example is quite thrilling.

Thread discuss Dynasty Warriors
Some of the things I feel often get neglected are the extra features. Things like body guards, character creators, teams/changeable characters, weapon changes, mission objectives, strategies, morale effects, power up states etc. On one hand a game that keeps it simple can still be a lot of fun but as someone who has played many in the series and enjoyed many of the games with various supporting systems it is something I am always on the look out for and hope to see improved and expanded. Weapon options in particular I think are a great addition. Too often in the past I find a character I like in terms of appearance only to have them with a unbalanced, weak moveset or perhaps I just get bored of it after so many hours. Games like Orochi Warriors where the roster is huge had some woefully underpowered heroes. It is a shame DW9 seems to have bombed. I was sort of looking forward to it and really like some of the designs on the characters. Some of my favourite charactersI'd love to see Pirate Warriors 4. 3 is fantastic and one of my favourites easily. We also need a Final Fantasy Musou.

Thread Who are the "least special" Final Fantasy Protagonists?
It is definitely Vaan. If we count non-mainline games then most of the protagonists from Tactics such as Ramza count too I think. I think you could perhaps make an argument for Squall in that he was a regular kid who (among others) were raised to fight sorceresses. His entire life was sort of guided through the school/training and he eventually makes it. While he is not really any sort of special chosen one with great power he was still lead up to the moment by various powers including the Gardens & Elone. In fact, Elone alone probably disqualifies him somewhat even if the rest of the party gets similar treatment. He is, I suppose, chosen by Rinoa. Cloud is a it of a nobody but I'd argue that the lifestream has chosen him as a champion of sorts. Especially given that he gets visions from and Zack in Advent Children while he is straight up cured as he fights. I think only looking at the protagonist's origins is likely a mistake.

Thread What’s the Consensus on The Banner Saga Trilogy as a Whole?
I think the games are great. It took me a little while to get into it but once the hooks are in I couldn't stop. The combat is quite good imo. That is, it is balanced enough that you don't feel truly fucked for your mistakes most of the time. The stress isn't constant despite the story being pretty grim. This is certainly no x-com in that regard. The story I feel are pretty good as stand alones. It isn't particularly grand and there are plenty of questions unanswered but focusing on the survival and journey of the characters was enough for me. One of the issues with episodic games is that if you play them one after the other you go from a climatic point of the ending from the previous one to another slow build up with minor time skip. Some characters disappear or new characters show up and it takes a little bit to pick up again. This isn't necessarily bad but it can burn out I think. Especially as your new heroes may not be as strong as some of the old ones.I bought the first on sale and grabbed the other two shortly after release and had a blast. At the current sale I recommend it easily.

Thread What’s the Consensus on The Banner Saga Trilogy as a Whole?
I don't want you to get the wrong impression from the mention of X-COM. X-com's combat suits it very well in that the rng adds another layer of stress to everything. TBS's combat very simple by comparison and it is easy to achieve victory in most cases. What is far harder is knowing which grey area story choice will not fuck you over in some way. The story is also more continuous than Dark Souls so sometimes it is harder to not want to dive back in. All that said, I hope you enjoy it!

Thread Looking to start a new JRPG series. Which of these choices would best fit my tastes?
Yakuza, suggest starting with 0 + Long series so if you like it you can keep going + Exploration is fairly rewarding with exp, weapons, side quests etc. + Variety of mini-games, some with side quest or chain of side quests. This is something I miss in a lot of RPGs. + Fairly engaging main story. + Exaggerated and comical side stories. + Tropes are a bit more varied and not the standard anime fair. + Combat is fun brawler type. Action is pretty flashy and over the top. - Minimal customizations outside of customising the girls in the hostest club minigame. - Over the series you explore the same town repeatedly even if it changes as the years go by. - Pacing can feel ruined as you progress into some important story segment but then open up some cool new side shit you want to explore. - Sometimes story is predictable, especially if you're very familiar with asian gangster dramas.

I actually love that they co-exist. DQ with the traditional approach, the same yet differences. The attention to details is so incredible. The world is so large and charming. FF feels like they are constantly striving to breakthrough and while it often misses, their production values and attempts are still appreciated. When they hit the right notes you soar incredibly high but quite often you're sort of simmering halfway waiting for the next boost with FF. My biggest disappointment of course is that these two can't co-exist with the likes of Suikoden, Breath of Fire, and other loved but dead IPs.

I want to say that none of these are really bad choices. I think EO series makes the best use of the 3DS's split screen system and it will convert less well into other single screen formats should we see a remaster/port. However they are also not a typical RPG. They are dungeony with CYO team and work out the quirks of the enemies combat. Only the Untold games offer a story and set characters which is slightly different take to the game. I would give the demo a shot to be honest. It isn't for everyone and the artwork is a bit hit or miss at best but the gameplay really nice if you get into it. Not much else holds up like it to be honest.

So I've been struggling with some of the missions. Switched over and used Kaido and holy shit at the difference. I'm hoping some of my other characters can get up to or close to this kind of strength but I doubt it. He just swings and everything just flies towards death. His shield breaking strength is absurd and his hitbox is ridiculous. His speed doesn't even matter that much because his range and damage is so absurd. In burst mode he feels pretty much broken. Clear times went from 9-16 minutes on a stage to about 5 minutes.

Thread Updates that made you stop playing a game
When they nerfed armor lock and removed bloom in Halo Reach. Yeah, I was one of those. I would say that it is rare for bugs or updates to turn me away from the game if I am enjoying it a lot prior. If I do go away I usually intend to come back. Far more often I already have grievances that do not get addressed, sometimes get worse or the update feels uninteresting and ultimately inconsequential. Destiny had this on and off for me. While I still enjoyed playing it rarely do I feel the excitement in any of the goals or additions.

Thread Were You Allowed To Watch R-rated Movies as a Child? Will You Let Your Kid?
I did watch them fairly freely. If I had kids, I would decide based on film, age/behaviour and contents that gave the classification. Whether or not an adult is watching with them is worth considering too. Lets be honest, ratings can be inconsistent too. The King's Speech, Love is Strange and the Matrix is R too IIRC. Classification can also change depending which review board/region or just get revised over time. To me, these classifications are just a guide/quick reference. I can review its contents online and make the decision myself. If I can't decide on the spot, I'll let the kid watch something else. I can review the film in question when I find the time and then we can watch it afterwards (or when they are older). I'm also fairly confident that kids will watch stuff at friend's place etc. I'd rather be open to the conversation and know what they are watching rather than just flat out "No R movies" which just means keeping secrets from me really.

Thread What are the best games this gen for feeling of empowerment? (in RPG's MMO's)
Have you tried For Honor? From my experience it was immensely satisfying to read opponents and demolish them or time your defenses right and over power enemies in a 1vMultiple fight. The game is still getting some updates and balances I think, might know more and can probably say more about the game in general. I imagine Mount & Blade 2 would be great too once you get used to the mechanics.Warriors/Musou type games are my quick fix for empowerment. There are always caveats with recommending them though. The combat isn't such that you can expect a challenge in them regularly. Sure, getting hit might be dangerous at higher difficulties and such but it is more about your ability to utilize your character(s) movesets to clear objectives and stages efficiently as well. You typically start off over powered and get more so as you go and build familiarity.

Thread What is the worst padding you’ve ever seen in a game?
I'm going to say FF14. Now MMOs by their nature tend to be full of padding. I know this and I'm somewhat accepting of it. But by god the first main story + the seventh astral chain which leads up to Heavensward is truely something awful, made worse I think by some older design philosophies or perhaps being held back by the remake that the game went through. Everyone exclaims about how fantastic FF14's story is. This is probably true, I'm in Heavensward now and things have picked up considerably and it is said that it only gets better. The first part however was not good. Even now in Heavensward I feel like for every decent moment of story I get half a dozen or more padding quests between. I had friends who really helped me speed through some of the slog. They ferried me around, helped in tough quests and guide me with mechanics and gearing. I'm one of those players who tend to like playing at my own pace and working things out, exploring as i want but so much content was locked behind the story, including classes I wanted to play and what have you. There is a limit to my tolerance for "it gets so much better after X hours" and this game is well and truly beyond that limit. Had it not been for my friends encouraging me I would have dropped this again (I tried once many years ago also).

I'm really struggling to do some of the harder missions. One of the issues I have is that I tend to prefer trying to get past tough stages by myself, I might seek advice on heroes or what not but actually playing I prefer to mess around until I get it right. This game though, feels bad. Every match is several minutes and I often don't know if I'll succeed or not until a fair way into the mission. I think I could probably power level through but that seems tedious and not fun. I just got Silver Ash. I guess I'll try to S1 him first and see where I go from there. I imagine I'll need to S2 more heroes as well.

I mean, one thing I hate about lists like these is that it seems to skip over certain areas. I consider some of these pretty revolutionary. The lack of any Moba and MMO, noticeably LoL and WoW is kind of strange. Pokemon, also notable is Pokemon Go as well is stupidly big despite dying off. Minecraft deserves a place here as well. Long term free to play with continuous support and community should probably be worth considering such as: Path of Exile & Warframe

Beyond the moderation tools we already have in place to assist us in identifying members, we will be trying to be more familiar with our communities in general. We primarily use a member's post history however another useful aspect is when other members notify staff through reports or the contact form.If we have any reason to believe the member is black, they won't be banned for it.This is something we are acutely aware of as well. Certainly one group does not speak for all of the others and we will be reaching out to more of our communities going forward. Different minorities will have different issues and feelings from Era but we also do not want to take on more than we can handle at any one time. There may be some intersections of issues that might be addressed and improved across the board (such as increase in ban length or swifter escalation towards permanent bans) but none of that diminishes the need to reach out to the other communities when we are able. If anyone feels like there are issues missed or concerns still to address our doors are open. While the meeting is over we are still listening.

Much like with a lot of MMOs, the beginning is not a good demonstration of what the combat has to offer. This is probably way more so in BDO where combat is such a huge focus and where the story/initial grind is more or less a slog. They really pushed for rapid leveling so players could build other characters up faster but this in turn made trying to engage it as a new player far less enjoyable imo. Especially when you out level the main story content in minutes just by trying to complete a kill 15 enemy quest but have another 2 in the same area. Doubly annoying when things like inventory space upgrades are tied into the main story rewards. In terms of PvE, it is much more about managing resources and dodging attacks (unless you grossly out gear/level the area). Some characters are easier with this than others. Outside of world bosses, most enemies you can fight reasonable well with skill and decent gear. One thing you might enjoy would be to link up with others in the thread to try some casual pvp, see what works, what doesn't.I thought it was really unique and should have been expanded upon way more. I'd say that actually managing the nodes though, without a value pack is really trash.

You can create characters until you run out of character slots (buy more via cash shop tickets or during promo events with In game currency). Once you're in the game world you can enter character editor but you either need to use a character edit ticket or have a value pack active to "apply" the changes. You can save changes to "save slots". Value Packs are pretty common in the in game market but are also hotly contested. It is has been a while since I played but I think there were some changes to the market to make pre-ordering value packs possible. Maybe can chime in. The game also awards value packs sometimes. Log in bonuses, events etc.

Almost every complaint I had heard about it is valid, but I still managed to have a lot of fun with just power leveling my characters and seeing what each class plays like. I never got far into PvP. The latest barbarian class with axe/shield looks pretty cool. I almost want to give it a quick power grind. The character creator is fun. The best part of about the value pack (subscription) for me, is not the exp bonus, carry weight or storage bonus but the free access to character editor and dye rental. Some screens. Don't mind my character names.

I like all sorts but my limits for each is different and the type does not necessarily mean I am ok with all chocolates of its kind. Like, dark chocolate 80% and 95% are pretty different, even when eating the same brand. I think if I had to pick one I would go with dark. I can have a little bit and be satisfied and I can indulge in a fair bit more before I say "Ok, I've had enough sweets... for now." I think milk chocolate is a close runner up just because it is "safe" as others said. White can be too sweet and I have less of the white chocolates before I've had my fill, however when you really want some white chocolate nothing else is good enough but I can sort of be satisfied if I eat milk/dark when I want the other. I get cravings for different ones.

Yeah I agree which is why I say some of it is more like banter. The best part about the MH response is that it is fundamentally one of the core prioritization rules. It is why the phrase some times get a second follow up "in that order". Essentially it over simplifies everything into learning to dodge first then adding attacks in. Git gud unfortunately doesn't even give the bare minimum of this imo but in terms of usage they are similar.

Shadowrun Dragonfall and Shadowrun Hong Kong. Shadowrunners are basically criminal mercenaries. While you aren't always doing criminal things most of the time it is shady stuff that cannot be done in light of the law. I read a good goal is to get your E1s to skill 4 as skill 4 and 7 give big jumps and skill 4 is not too difficult to achieve. The event stages drop some common skill materials too. Some skills/characters are probably more useful than others, use your best judgement. If you haven't raised a push/pull character you might want to do that and get their skill to 4 so they can shift better. What roles to work on is a bit tricky. Depends what you want to do I guess. I'm grinding events and power leveling characters that will be useful in LMD and Exp grinding later. So dp generation and arts dmg is a huge one for me.

Thread Earned Emotional Resonance in Games (Open Spoilers for Multiple Games)
I was pretty invested in Gravity Rush series so the ending of GR2 was incredible for me. In the final chapters of GR2 it really felt like they were drawing in everything and bringing in all the key players. There is a lot of here that I felt were pretty good in either hype or sadness such as controlling Raven to defend the city in Kat's absence or regaining control of Kat, arriving to the fight to see Raven and Yunica defeated. Seeing Kat enraged was new too. The way the final chapters just cut through Kat's allies, some of them seemingly permanently sacrificing themselves to help her was amazing given that these are the people that Kat's precious. These are the people who hold her together and support her. Then at the epilogue it was somewhat crushing. The epilogue was amazing as well with how devastated the people who knew were and how despite the world moving on it felt so much emptier without Kat around. The irony of Raven being heralded as the city's saviour as she was seen fighting at the beginning and now has a bunch of fan girls at the academy, all the things Raven doesn't care for but Kat would have loved.

Thread Mechanically/gameplay wise only, which are you favorite bosses *outside of* DMC/NG/GoW/Platinum/SotC/From games?
Monster Hunter series. I'm just here to toot the MH horn. You can pick pretty much most flagships in their respective games and it will be a great fight but MH in general feels very good in the game's mechanics and designs. -All monsters have various states such as exhausted, enraged etc. -All monsters have various abilities that can be huge roars, tremors, wind pressure or typical status effects like poison, paralysis, sleep etc. -Monsters' behaviour and attacks have tells. These cues are not just visual but clear audio cues are something many game fail to deliver. -The hunt/process is about preparing for a tough boss. Knowing what to bring to the fight, when to be aggressive and when to retreat. -The best moments in MH is often when things go horribly wrong or horribly right. -You feel the progress even though there are no character levels, only gear upgrades. -Visual indicators of fight progress, broken parts, severed tails, smashed faces, drooling, change of colour, limping, etc. -Monster body parts have different weakness/resistance to DMG types such as blunt/blade/bullets. Aim your weapons but also consider which tool you want to bring to break parts or synergize with team mates. -Monster resistance build up. Apply stun? It'll take more effort to stun a second time and more again a third etc. -Palicoes are great. I haven't even got to the mechanics of the weapons or armor skills to mess with monsters yet. One of my favourites recently I think is Teostra and Lunastra in MHW. They look intimidating as fuck and have auras of fire that make them hard to approach. They are quick, have a lot of different moves and the sense of danger escalating as the monsters become more and more engulfed in flames is magnificent. Teo's supernova is outright horrifying when it catches you in a bad place. Luna's flame gusts... well, yeah, fuck that move. You prepare to fight them and you are always wary of these attacks which will cart you real quick if caught in it.

Thread Control. Does this game get better?
I really enjoyed my time with Control. It was less about the gunplay but more about the frantic, low key superhero game it turns out to be and fantastic designs. I say frantic because that is how the combat often plays out for me. Constant destruction of environments, objects flying abouts and constantly running/dodging/jumping and later levitating. The way the game's mechanics are setup to encourage movement rather than staying in once place like a cover shooter makes it feel great once you get into the rhythm of things. I see you mention the boss avoiding the thrown object, you can't just spam the powers and expect results. Almost all enemies have some action that leaves them vulnerable. I do wish there were more activities beyond combat and very, very light puzzles but overall the game is really unique. Some of the powers feel great and I'd love to see more of it.

Sometimes they may be trying a different brand from the one I use and I might strike up a casual conversation about it. Thread LTTP: Halo: Reach - wait a second, this isn't a Call of Duty clone.
Yeah, the battle of Reach was lost very quickly despite being a major fight and one of the strongest worlds/defenses humanity had. The way was really one sided and that was part of the message with Reach. There is a book that explains things a lot better, in great details etc. It gives a lot more background to characters such as Halsey and Cortana, Keys etc. In a lot of ways Reach felt like a tribute or fan service game.Really cool character. One of my favourites from Noble Team. There are certain encounters that are really difficult in Legendary, even in Heroic they can be pretty tough. The thing with Legendary is how easily you die. It comes down to and then prioritizing your targets. You also need to be able to execute them of course. As an example if you're about to fight two elites, stickying one then plasma pistol overcharge and headshot follow up the other will quickly resolve that encounter. The best difficulty imo is Heroic with some skulls on. Not all skulls, but a few makes the game a bit more challenging without the crazy one shots every two steps. It allows for reckless plays while being tougher than regular heroic. The worst time I had with Legendary was Halo 2 I think. I just remember flying bugs and snipers being huge assholes to deal with. They were tough in other games but fuck nothing felt similar to some of the Halo 2 sniper nests. That said, Legendary feels like a cake walk after LASO runs.

Yeah, I agree that there is some ethical issues in Pokemon to be sure. And honestly if living in that world it would probably be an area of be interested in pursuing. In some ways this is more of a reason to take it than Animal Crossing. In AC, as much as I love the games they are all very much a hide away and relax type of game. If it was constant and permanent I'm not sure what I would do. When it is just purely relaxing and fun with then occasional grumpy villager it feels without any sort of goal or aim. Other than the excitement and despair of turnip prices I'm not sure what else there is. Meeting animals, collecting things, making friends. Minigames. I think in Pokemon at least the people are more than the AC animal archetypes. They have lives, friends, etc. It is far from a perfect world but that is what makes it more interesting.

Definitely Pokemon. Sure, it has its own share of danger but the convenience and wonder are above all I think. The fact most humans can befriend some Pokemon even if not a trainer is a huge plus. People think Animal Crossing is good but I ask you how you would feel after living with the animals for some time with their limited personalities and... Neediness. Good luck chopping trees and digging out stumps like that. Enjoy those peaceful night time strolls with sudden tarantulas. Spending a full day fishing or digging or bug catching to win a trophy for your house and some other collectibles. All of this sounds fun but short lived. Even pushing furniture around the home looks tedious. Not to mention odd storage system.

I did also really enjoy the Guilty Gear crossover and I'm still missing some side stories as I started late but I don't think this has been topped yet. Not even the events in episode 2 come close though I do like the friendly banter between the main characters of episode 2 as well. Regarding the part in your spoiler tag.

Thread At some point, we have made character customization so powerful, it mimics reality.
I use to be a huge fan of deep character creators. Now it is more about body types and hair styles because I've given up hope with skin colouration as well as my ability to use the sliders to make something decent. For skin colour it is especially irritating when you go for a skin colour and come out an odd shade due to lighting or you look like a fish out of water in the game when that isn't the intention. Also, nothing is worse than making a character you like the appearance of only to be left with awful armour options. (Monster Hunter, looking at you!) These days I think I prefer unlocking costumes and mix/matching pieces of clothing taking more importance.

Thread Seeking advice regarding escaping from Sydney (and possibly even Australia as a whole)
I don't know how much you get for your DSP but generally speaking no. The DSP alone is generally not sufficient for long term. Short term definitely helps. Don't forget to apply for rent assistance and anything else you can get such as transition to work benefits etc. The NDIS may also offer some funding for self care or core activities. My concern is if you try to take on too many things at once. If you aren't familiar with living out by yourself and handling household responsibilities you should prioritise that and maybe do it at home. Let your folks know you need to learn independence. Moving out is more than paying for food, rent and utilities. Replenishing household supplies and household chores are easily taken for granted. It all adds up financially and mentally in terms of fatigue and time.

I don't blame you wanting to move out OP. The smoke and heat here is awful. Our govt's lack of acknowledgement and action for climate change is possibly even more suffocating at this point. You should to talk to your NDIS advisor and come up with a plan to help you move out and achieve independence. Then plan on moving to another country after. If you don't want to move out yet (and that is both valid and understandable as living at home is far less of a burden financially) you might also want to try tackling all the adult responsibilities of the house hold to ready yourself. You might also consider talking to family and friends. If you can get a job that you work online it can help while finding a stable job overseas. You might also try temporary work visa overseas sometime later. Be sure to tell Centrelink to suspend your DSP and not cancel it because once you're off you have a shit ton of tape and paper to try and get it back if you need it.

None of the other side story nor main stories come close to Diene's imo. It is a shame the early designs are so much better. The triple combo they did recently with Red Cecil's costume, Spec changed Wanda and the upcoming 800 year old dragon Loli is just so disappointing.

Beyond all that I think there are some characters that are generally easier to build. For instance my understanding of JKise is that her cleave is two fold with soul burn extra turn. This says to me her damage is likely higher than bbk but bbk has 10 soul SB and as a natural 4* you can get away with maxing her S3 and save mola for others. Characters like Ravi I think are incredible budget heroes for 5*. Her kit lets you build her in a lot of ways and her sustain can keep her alive quite well but to make her really strong I think the gear requirement is too high and likely better on other heroes. After considering mola investment it is good to look into gearing. Some heroes need HP and def more than others. Some bruisers such as ken don't really need att stat at all. Another thing is that some characters are great but can be rng incredible with some setups. The mention of Cidd being one hero that I think is incredibly strong at this. If he gets r&l proc he can have turns and be deleting heroes super fast but that is assuming you have the artefact (I don't). As with all gacha games I think it is important to use characters you like too. Progression and what you already have/using is also worth considering.

I think I've struck the ones I see and don't really think are a threat. There are exceptions where these heroes may be used well but generally speaking you need very good gear for them and other heroes might still be better. Shadow Rose for me generally I can out run her at 210ish so unless you start throwing heroes like Roozid as well I think SR is a bit too slow these days. Assassin Cartuja + Violet is very strong on defense. Aux Lots into soul burning BBK is still a meme I think and honestly kind of dumb effective if you have the speed for it. Ken, SSB and Fallen Ceci are great on defense. They destroy me pretty often. Ken a little less so now that we're swimming in water heroes but his S3 is still scary.

Thread Getting Into WRPGs as a JRPG Fan What Do?
I'm going to echo this with Shadowrun: Dragonfall. It Anno's post sums it up very nicely but I think another strong point that I consider favourable towards it is that part of its lore stems from the real world. So a lot of things they reference in passing such as the world war or various locations around the world is both familiar yet alien given magic has awakened in the world and technology has also boomed ahead in weird wonderful ways. But this also helps with the role playing which is an area fewer JRPGs delve into. You create your character and shape the character through dialogue and interaction with others. You fill out your past by answering (or not) questions your companions spring at you. Often an obstacle to WRPGs (with character creators) can be mechanics. Learning what works and how to use what etc can be a bit daunting especially when your class is seemingly set. With this game a lot of the classes are unique yet sort of familiar. A street samurai for instance is a standard fighter and you can lean towards melee, guns or both. You also have a lot of room to wiggle with and take on additional skills, that is your class isn't particularly restrictive. There are still some restrictions, particularly magic and turning yourself into a cyborg but it does pretty well at explaining things it helps when all meta human races sort of branch out from humans, literally in the lore. The game is strongest in writing, world building and characters. The gameplay/combat is pretty straight forward and enjoyable. It is similar to x-com or valkyria chronicles in style. Also, when looking at RPGs it is nice to see what elements or things you prefer or dislike. First person? Isometric? Turn based combat? Party based? I can recommend Shadowrun Dragonfall, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect, The Witcher 3 all at once for varying preferences and flavour.

Thread What's in a name? Can we discuss game names and how they affect our purchases? If at all?
Interesting! For Tactics Ogre, the tactics relates to style and presentation similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. Ogre has always been been somewhat of a plot point in the series which is usually titled Ogre Battle, so the rest of it is just the Queen song which might make the whole thing less appealing but I personally really like it, even if I didn't know it was a Queen song the (remake's) cover and title are certainly interesting to me. Does me providing some context for TO:LUCT make it a little better for you?

Thread What's in a name? Can we discuss game names and how they affect our purchases? If at all?
That seems a little odd to pick out and maybe more of a personal preference. I don't really know what you mean by your example. Do you just not like titles with subtitles? How do you feel about WarCraft 3: Reigns of Chaos, Halo: Combat Evolved, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas? What do you expect in game titles? Generally if I dislike a name I can pin it to a reason such as difficulty in pronunciation, overly long and complicated, seemingly random and having no connection to the game that I can perceive even at the end of the game. With stuff like Legend of Ancient Sword from China, it is pretty much going to be a wuxia/wushu theme. Those immediately tell me about some of the inspirations for the game which isn't bad.

Thread Is the King of Fighters All Stars mobile game any good?
My only major grievance with gameplay/combat is the stuck mechanic. Basically if your character's combat power is too low vs enemy then they stop flinching to your attacks. This means trying to use low levels to complete tough missions is incredibly difficult. Grinding is a huuuuge time sink. Events all over the place and overall very bad gacha rates. You need to gacha or grind for the special cards too... Gameplay is quite good most of the time. Balance issues aside most characters have combos using their skills and basic attacks. You can use assists and supports to extend or even switch character. Very much enjoying it at a very casual level. I never finish all the dailies.

They are pretty different games with their own strengths. The Witcher 3 has stronger narrative and characters, they are however set in place already. Skyrim lets you shape your own character but it is based on actions, feats/accomplishments and skills. You're mostly a mute protagonist and you can choose which factions to join and what skills to get into. I think Skyrim is more fun in a sandbox, explore and run amok sort of play.

I actually thought about this as I typed my response. I probably should have specified what I meant with AAA but I felt it was easy enough to grasp so was a bit lazy with my reply. SE definitely has it in them to make some AAA games, multiple pipelines and all but I don't think DQ Builders 2 falls in this category. While DQ in general I consider a flagship product this is not a main line entry but a sequel to a spinoff genre. Even just looking at the marketing I don't think they are really comparable. Typically the games I reject getting near launch I have this idea in my mind that it will be fun and I want to play them but I can probably get a GOTY edition type deal later with all DLCs, bug fixes etc. Dev budget isn't really that big of a factor into my own purchasing but as if I'm following a certain game that looks to be great or I want to show support I'll buy them early, especially for smaller studios for the same reasons Delphine explains in her .

I think it was because they didn't want people who didn't play the first game to be too confused. Also probably why the early pacing is slow. The highs of 2 are much higher than 1 but the low points of the game are also lower than 1. Overall I prefer 2 but I think they commend each other nicely as a complete package. Especially because of the ending. The first ending in GR2 feels much like an ending to the sequences of GR2 itself but the 2nd ending feels like it draws in everything and wraps it up for the series. I hope we get GR3.I don't really think so. I do like Herskeville's aesthetics but the variety of locations and visuals in GR2 knock it out of the park easily.

So it seems the only way I can painlessly do the Ralph and Clark event is to pretty much juggle combo them until they are dead. Otherwise I use my finisher to prevent them using their finisher, using the finisher when they are both on screen seems to give you a pretty big window of free attacks. But damn are they tanky. It just takes so damn long. You can click on the magnifying glass where it says Bonus Applied to the right of the strikers. There it explains which characters give how much and it also explains how much increase each fighter gets. King 94, Kyo 95 and K' start at 20% each with +3% per 5 levels of limit break. My King has the Baseball Yuri battle card equipped for bonus points. The card gives 5 but evolving it boosts it up to 10% I think which brings her to 39% as you see there.. Ideally I could push Kyo and my strikers a bit more but I really don't use those strikers and I'm low on Souls for Kyo, nor do I have a K' of my own.

Thread Which are some of your favourite RPG/CRPGs with tons of dialogue that feel like tabletop?
Expedition series is great. My favourite is Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Hong Kong. You can safely skip Returns. One of the key things I like about both the Expedition and Shadowrun series is that it is a fantasy take on the real world but with enough flavour that it keeps things familiar yet very fresh. The highlights of Expeditions for me was the way your companions interacted with the world and each other. Balancing your choices not only for survival/goals but to keep your companions from fighting. The highlight of Shadowrun for me is the writing. It is charming and quite modern. The setting isn't post apocalyptic but the world is so far changed that it is fascinating and fun. The game handles the world building through dialogue and while sometimes you can miss things due to failing skill checks often they have side dialogues that flesh out the world. This also means if you have no interest you can skip those side dialogues. There is a lot of fluff choices for dialogue that ultimately lead to the same thing but to me this really helps me play and define the character I was playing. Like, all of these lead to the same thing with only a small divergence in conversation. It is mostly well received but not exactly mechanically balanced or varied even, especially compared to some of the big hitters like Divinity Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity etc. You might be interested in reading some impressions from when the Era RPG Club played through the game together that month.

Thread Game mods that completely change a game's gameplay and makes them equally/more awesome.
I remember I played Oblivion on PC looking to get rid of the annoying level and loot scaling. I ran some combat mods that tweaked things but combat still felt like a chore and kind of boring. At the end I ended up using a variety of mods that resulted in the enemies being able to 1-3 shot you in most instances but you could also easily dispatch them in 1-3 hits, sometimes 5 for particularly tough bosses. The combat remains the same and attacks were a bit spammy so another mod, I think it was called adrenaline or somehting. It increased the number of enemies per spawn point. So instead of a room with 5 bandits and 2 bandit leaders I faced 10 bandits and 2 leaders. This meant every large room was somewhat horrifying as 1 archer typically means there are two archers and a shot from each will almost always kill. Guarding became essential in melee and dodging with target priotization were much more important. It made the game much more enjoyable. You have brutal, short, violent clashes per room. If you get struck by something like paralyse, you're 100% screwed.

It also allows you to rotate to a character with the emergency dodge available. Guarding helps a lot. Some bosses seem to have near permanent super armor towards the latter end of their health pool. Hits on you. If you get hit a few times and are wondering about how many you can press pause (upper left) and view the objectives which should say something like x/20. And for any wondering, it actually means less than 20 so if you clear with 20/20 then you miss out.

King 94 is fantastic. She, along with K' are also part of the current King event bonus team meaning you get more points in her event when running them together. The event gets you some neat items and King's skill card. Outside of that you probably don't need her if you don't like her as you have K' on Red. If the choice is between King or Mai, just go with your heart. Otherwise Yuri to add some greens to your plate. I pulled Yuri yesterday but haven't leveled her yet so can't give feedback. Also, for purple everyone recommends Shermie and I'm thinking I'll pick her up as well since her Leader Skill is so useful. I often pick her as support just for its perk.

I've been looking through my 4* heroes and looking at skill previews. We need a 5* Chang. I want some of this big guy in my roster. I pulled both Vice 96 and 98. They both look pretty cool and I kind of want to use both of them Anyone know if one is better than the other? They are different elements so I could probably build both but red defense is sort of bleh to me at the moment. I have so many red heroes too. Two Kings, Ryo, Kyo and probably some others I've forgotten.

I have a whole bunch of 5* now . Just looking for a purple and green to invest in that I like. King 98 is probably still my favourite even if King 94 and several of my other heroes are stronger and higher in the tier list. It sucks that King 98 isn't part of the King event buff. Serious oversight imo. Because of this I ended up leveling King 94 higher than my 98 to try and maximise the buffs. I can reach 98% with a good K' support.

There are a lot of new features coming including the steeple, pets and world boss. I just find the game a little boring at the moment. I don't know. The content and the grind is just stale as many people say, particularly for me who has 0 interest in PvP. I think some of the additional content such as gearing via alchemy steeple just adds another step in progression that while it make things easier I feel it ultimately becomes a bit more annoying as now we're switching screens to the steeple, throwing stuff in the pot and sifting through all the junk manually trying to decide what sets we have enough of to maybe make something decent. Meanwhile, for a while now it was literally sell all trash items and just keep on wyverning. Not fun but less effort? I've been mulling over the type of content I want for the game in terms of PvE and I'm not sure what it is. The somewhat new special equipment PvE stuff I find horribly boring... Worse that it is constantly repeating and you have to play the fucker 3 times, maybe have a practice run first. Just a huge time sink and I don't even have all these heroes built or geared otherwise, it feels a bit pointless.

Does anyone actually use soul weavers? Do people still supports for that matter? I reckon it'll be really useful in areas such as Abyss but for the most part a bruiser or grinder will get you through most world/event stages. I don't remember the last time I felt like I need a healer for support. Sometimes I'll run into a support that is ungeared, usually in the leader slot. That is generally a sign to check my friends list for inactives and start booting people.

I've been pondering this myself. For the most part it is fine to not go all in on the "meta". Often this is for optimization and efficiency but if you're enjoying the game and characters, who cares? On the flip side, you don't want to ignore strong characters entirely because sometimes they might carry you when you need/want it most. In gacha games one of the frequent early top concerns is clear speeds. This typically enables you to progress faster and get more currencies to level/pull characters/limit break etc. In terms of building your characters. Some things to consider are 1. Leader Skill - Having this character as your first fighter will enable this passive buff that affects the entire team. 2. Core Buffs - These are passive buffs, some characters get more offense while others get more defense. 3. Attacks - Some characters have different attacks depending on which version. I would say the game majorly favours strong offense. Not only do you clear faster but never do you see objectives such as eat 30 hits from the boss. Instead you have objectives such as don't get hit more than 20 times, this typically translate to beat enemies faster to mitigate risks. This is why Shermie seems great, attack buff while above 70% hp will work for all characters. I haven't got her yet, I'm still deciding if I want to use my ticket for her but this leader skill alone seems worth considering because of its usefulness. I will say however, sometimes playing with my preferred characters who clear slower and I need to pay more attention to because they are, overall, a bit weaker turns out to be a bit more fun. Then again, sometimes I go up against bosses and they stop flinching. This is significantly less fun... Might just be I was too low a level though.

I'm actually having second thoughts if the intro I saw was actually Blue Mary now. From what I understand there aren't currently many versions of Blue Mary but what I saw was her in some odd non-symetrical outfit with half pants half shorts type thing and she was sort of rubbing herself top to down, sort of like a rinsing soap of in shower thing. Maybe I misread and it was a generic boss that looked and named similar. Mai is pretty standard but I haven't really used her nor seen all variants of her either. Typically she is in her standard outfit and there is emphasis of some jiggle. Her in game battle stance is the same bend over cleavage jiggle animation. King, Yuri and Mature seem to be pretty inoffensive but I haven't been paying attention to story either. I definitely haven't seen all the characters and attacks yet and I'm sure they'll do dumb fan service events with bikini editions characters and such. I have a free selection ticket and I'm trying contemplating Chizuru or Kasumi. King 98 looks fantastic too but I RNGed into a King 94 who is supposedly higher on the tier list any way.

Hey Laiza I actually haven't seen that character yet, I assume she is newly added. E7 and most gacha games I've played have mostly been pretty poor on the representation front. Epic 7 in particular seems to like big anime tiddies. As another player of the game I totally understand the frustration of being constantly disappointed in different aspects of a game you like and have invested so much time in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm usually feeling muscled women are such a minority that I can tend to appreciate most characters but that character is both comically busty and such a great example of what I dislike about Epic 7's designs. I don't even think sexualise is the word I'd use for it, some of the designs in Epic 7 I feel lean more and more into fetishization. I'll stop here on this tangent though because I think this discussion is better suited in the Why Women Criticise Sexualised Design thread. On the topic of muscular women I'm keeping an eye on this VN as I enjoyed demo I played a while ago. I totally get that the genre and characters not being human might not be for everyone though.

Thread Good character creators tied to amazing games
Just wanted to say that it isn't at all an important feature for the genre but I absolutely love that Soul Calibur has a character creator with customizable armors/clothes. Shout out to this thread while I'm here. I also really enjoyed . The character creator and how it is tied into the story is split but I personally really like it. It still fails a lot of things such as skin colour and maybe some more body types. The creator is pretty simple but enough for me to enjoy and fits nicely with the game I think. This isn't the type of game where you get to dress up nicely. Your visual variation is mostly limited to uniform types, changable shirts, cape/jackets being on or off, minor accessories and head/hair features. The gameplay is also quite good, your character is blended into the story as just another soldier who is part of Eren's year of recruits so you're right in there where the action is at and it tells the story from a slightly different perspective than watching the anime or playing the first game. I guess another character creator I really enjoyed is the one in Dynasty Warriors Empires series. You have the regular main heroes but you can create new warriors and base them off a hero's moveset or weapons. Sometimes it looks a bit goofy but it also lets me play weapons/styles I like but have no interest in the characters as I dislike them visually or whatever. Also. On the topic of Black Desert Online. While I think some other games have caught up in terms of quality character creators one thing I do like is that if you have a value pack in BDO (which is often rewarded or bought via in game currency from market) you can alter your character again. I still have issues with gender lock, race lock, weird proportions and such but overall I'm glad you can change and tweak your character so easily. Many other games such as MHW lets you do some of it but full options you need to pay for a ticket.

I always like the idea of Zelda being a more studied and learned person in contrast with Link. In my mind she doesn't need to go and seek out relics or gadgets, she has some magic of her own that I think she should be able to use in creative ways to solve problems in place of or together with various items she finds. In combat. The pots Link smashes for rupees? Maybe she can fill them with magic then place them strategically for a sort of chain reaction. Maybe she can take a leaf from Portal and do some portal travel in and out of the pots as she throws threm across ridge. I want to see her judo throw larger enemies and not just strictly rely on magic too. BoTW made some clever use of physics too. So I imagine it would be great to see some form of that. Something that encourages experimentation but also has a degree of randomness or variance with weather conditions etc. I haven't actually properly played BoTW

Did you feed him penguins? I was running the boss stages of the recent event and I gave him the 1st year anniversary artefact that gives bonus exp for party. 5* do take longer than 4* it seems, even if they start at the same level my 4* hit 50 before my 5*. The speed of farming definitely relates to both heroes used and gear you have. For me I think my gear lets me farm at reasonable speeds now. I need to swap some heroes if I'm off element but otherwise I can do the 30 stamina boss stage in the event pretty quickly. These aren't efficient for exp or event currency from my understanding but I don't have time to farm all day so I'd rather burn the stamina and get it over with. I can't usually grind late stages with 3 fodders for example. I'm not quite there yet.

One of the major roadblocks I had early on was investing into too many heroes. I wanted to try them all and settle on some I liked. This was... fun but slow. Eventually I settled on just a few. I started with a full aiming at a team level 60 then moved onto replacing single members on that same team with another who can fill in certain roles or just perform better overall. I would pick heroes based on what element/role and gear I had. It is better to have a core team, well geared and then move gear around when you need it for that one or two heroes. I'm also considering taking gear off Sol right now because he is absolutely more of single target and boss fighter. He makes my Golem runs so incredibly fast though...

They are just pixels to me. In some games where there are background animals I sometimes get this somewhat morbid curiousity to see what reactions are programmed into the animals. Examples. There is a cat that does flips and dodges all your attacks in Metal Gear Rising. In The Division dogs will stop, look at you and cower when you point your gun at them (they also don't drop loot, in case you were wondering) In Monster Hunter Kelbi will drop a shiny/horn if you beat their heads with a blunt attack such as hammer or GS shoulder charge. If you otherwise attack them you can carve pelts off them but they never die, they always get up and run away. No shame about having shot at most things in game to see a reaction. Also no shame in admitting I feel a bit guity when I see a realistic looking reaction of a hurt animal. Guess it is a good reminder that while they are pixels I myself still have feelings when I see these things.

Thread Wanting more accessible fight games=wanting button mashing, wanting games to be "dumbed down"?
A lot of this comes back to the commitment of the player and willingness to learn through practice and study. Study sounds like a chore but sometimes it is as simple as thinking about what you did wrong in the previous match. Or how you might beat an opponent if they repeated the same actions against you. I'm not going to say execution is not important and the same for combos but I think the idea that long complex combos are mandatory is hugely overblown, especially for casual play. Strong fundamentals is way more important. Knowing when to use what attacks, where to stand in terms of distance to each opponent. If you only practice how to execute strong combos it won't help you in forcing the opportunities to use said combos. Few combos are also always flawless in the sense that depending on the animation of the charcter you hit, the distance and state the combo may or may not be as effective. The simplest example would be that if your combo is meant for a standing target and you begin on a target who is jumping at you, even if you connect and execute perfectly the game's physics/rules may result in the enemy displaced and the combo breaking. It is a constant process of learning, adapting, improving. That said, there are some execution that I dislike because I don't practice and I sort of wish were easier. On the other hand these are generally more complex moves that aren't fundamental so

I think it definitely depends where you are at. Blue pieces I'm still trying to do without and move away from but some of my better pieces come from blue gear because that is the nature of RNG and we all start somewhere so these red 67 or blue 70 gear that carried me to the point I can farm 85 gear has stats that a lot of the 85 gear I grind do not. I have a 70 red chest I've been using since the beginning because I haven't found a suitable replacement for the 24 crit damage roll on it. Investment wise, I hold off on upgrading blues and reds with a lot of flats. I tend to upgrade in bulk. I'd put a few levels, usually 3, maybe 6 and see where the RNG lands me. If it goes poorly I feed it to the next piece. I'm at a point where min sub rolls are not really worth the effort unless literally every stat is useful and I'm lacking in the set+main options. The cost for enhancing is so high and I have so many pieces already that roll into mixed stats that ultimately leave me quite low.

You're welcome. I'm really glad you enjoyed it and appreciate you letting me know! They are both fantastic games, I'm not quite sure which I like best. I think the story hit me a bit harder in To The Moon but Finding Paradise felt a bit better, maybe it was the experience gained. The pacing and music and all felt slightly improved overall. Have you played Rakuen? I actually like it the most. Perhaps the story and setting just resonated with me more. The animations, sound effects, feel of movement and combat do not require the character to be sexualised at all. Sexualisation doesn't enhance this in any way unless you want jiggle butt physics. Animations, movement, feel of combat etc are also not really what this thread is about when talking/criticising about 2B or most other characters for that matter. Enjoying a game despite character designs we dislike and criticise is the Here are a couple of sunhilegend gifs. Criticising characters in regards to sexualised designs doesn't necessarily mean we dislike the game or the even the character. It is fine to like 2B. It is fine to like sexualised designs. But maybe refrain from defending the criticism on the designs using other merits of the game or characters. I'd imagine this is far more common and frustrating than the frustration you feel when you see a character you like get criticised. I personally think 2B is a fantastic example for this thread. There are parts of her design that I really like, the game I also really enjoyed and her characterization is enjoyable too. This is something I'm working on I guess. To see that things I like do not need to be flawless and I can like things even if there are parts I dislike. The sexualisation of 2B is so blatant and unnecessary that it is an easy example of liking a character and game despite its shortcomings. It easy to get caught up with my own bias and want to defend the game needlessly.

Thread Do you think the FFVII Remake should alter the Avalanche / Turks relationship?
That is fair. But then I would say that if the avalanche NPC trio are given more time to develop I wouldn't be surprised if the interactions with the Turks are given a dose of changes as well. I think some minor tweaking would still allow the same interactions. It could simply be that the Turks are the ones to walk away before conflict starts as fighting the team weren't part of their orders. I seem to remember there was some stalling type thing but they seemed to be the type that had back up plans and I always figured they just switched when they were defeated. The situation with the midgar plate specifically I think can definitely be more shocking this time round but I don't personally think they need to change it or shy away from it. Ultimately the Turks weren't a likeable crew and they don't need to be.

Thread Do you think the FFVII Remake should alter the Avalanche / Turks relationship?
I don't remember the party and the turks being on good terms with each other. It was more of a situation where, usually the Turks are sent to either provide assistance or it was simply not the party's priority at the time to get into a conflict with them. I can't recall anyone being actually friendly with the Turks but I haven't played the game in a long time so my memory may be off. I do remember Zack was on fairly good terms with a number of them, even having one for his Limit Break.

I'm still struggling with Banshee so I haven't tested it and she is not really my priority when it comes to counter gear but I saw this in the guides section of the discord.Looking at Carrot's kit, I think she has potential but would need more team comp synergy than most. Her damage comes from burn explosion or burn over time. Immunity and high effect resist will make her less desireable. PvP tends to favor burst damage or sustain/bruise. I would say damage over time is not the best way to go for PvP.Do you have Sol? He was pretty easy to get during the GG event and is quite strong.

Yeah that is fair. Sol isn't going to melt any heavies on his own but I wouldn't write him off either. His S3 strips and puts anti-buff on target, it also scales off enemy HP. He can counter and silence healers after their turn preventing them from using their next skill unless they are cleansed. He also gets his turns reasonably quickly with his extra turn at 100 spirit. With Tooth artefact he can one shot Kayrons. But the main reason I bring him up is more because he was free and easily attainable. For other fire options I can't speak for Inquisitor as I don't have him but he seems to have heavy gearing requirement. Corvus is a fantastic bruiser and I've struggled against him.

My raid team is really lazy. I run Ravi, Angie, Luna and Sol. I run Karkanis then most of the way through towards Julee. When I hit -30 I head out, buy guild raid ticket and go back in. Pick off Julee and head straight up to finish Queen. Really this team is super shit in terms of morale. I get a measely 21 but this team is geared and low effort. They auto most of it with only manual Queen and tweaks to the other two (turning off skills for my 3 attackers for Juleeve and saving Ravi S3 for stealth or tapping Arky if debuffed on Karkanis). I've tried some other teams but it ends up being slower sometimes. I think I can probably sub my Sea Bellona in over Sol or Luna. For Hell Ara I swap out Sol for Dizzy and it is a slower but ultimately safe and easy fight.

Ravi goes a long way with budget gear but someone told me that the better your gear the less she scales, that is, with really strong gear other characters begin to peak ahead of her and I'm probably in agreement. Ravi is so incredibly friendly to build. Her sustain is frankly incredible. You can build her with decent attack, a bit of crit and crit damage and she just trades for days. She excels in raid because she keeps her stupid attack passive buff maxed and in bosses such as Juleeve where you can't use debuffs she will happily chunk away at the enemy while keeping herself alive. She can work with all sorts of sets and you can neglect her speed somewhat because she has a passive Durandal skill. Her soul burn is also dumbly strong burst that full heals her in most cases. My Ravi can't out trade Corvus or Kens in arena. Once Ken S3 and def breaks the fight is night and day. Corvus... Maybe my Ravi is just badly geared but she can burn him down before he starts his stun and heal loops. I think Charlotte is another hero take gets stronger over time and doesn't reset in raid. I want to try her out but gacha hasn't been kind.

The first character looks pretty cool among all the other dragons in mobile games space. I play Epic 7 and the dragons in that are ridiculously sexualised. Yufine Luna, Yufine's older sister Fallen Cecillia, alternate version of Cecilia who is queen/leader of the dragon people. Epic 7 also doesn't leave it at just sprites either, they sometimes add some more sexualisation with animations. Yufine's skill 3 for example is pretty blatant. At least they are quick.

Thread Is third person the best way for cinematic storytelling?
I don't think it is necessary but I think it can help with picturing and seeing your character and their interaction with the world around them. I'm also thinking this doesn't need to be the default gameplay perspective either. Halo often uses 3rd person cutscenes. Destiny has moments even in gameplay where the camera pulls back to show your character, usually when doing something cool such as using a super or when you draw a sword. If anything I sometimes think that 3rd person for cutscenes and 1st person for gameplay can possibly be the best as it offers a bit of everything. Seeing the characters up close from 1st person or seeing the scale and action further back from 3rd person. Execution matters a lot obviously and beyond just camera perspective but sound/music etc can make and break cinematics' impact.

Is that the left side boss? That is the only one I can beat consistently. The trick is the same as regular raid, immunity against speed debuffs for when the two mobs die and the boss gets a turn. Then damage the boss. Dizzy S3 with decent effectiveness to speed debuffs the boss and respawned mobs. I use Luna S3 to def break, Dizzy can S2 and cr push all three of them and extend debuffs her S1 can stun and shutdown the mobs as well. I use Ravi who has some sustain and aoe stun +cr reset. She can also do great burst damage on soul burn. I think stats/gear is the difference once you have heroes in place to push/heal/debuffs/dps. I imagine Dizzy + Lidica strategy needs them to be pretty fast to lock down the boss and keep pushing.

I was stuck here for a while. If you kill one of the side mobs it lifts the stun. Any of them will do but you really want to prioritise the crystal as it puts up immunity. Every few turns the boss will resurrect one of the mobs and reapply stun to random target. The resurrected enemy starts with low hp but also gets regen. For me I went with kill all the enemies. I brought dispell for their regen, def break and debuffs. Cleanse and heals. Dizzy w/ Violin S. Bell Monty w/ Idol Violet

Thread Should you ever use an accessible toilet if you don’t have a disability?
Often these toilets are not strictly for people with disabilities. Also not all disabilities are noticeable but for this thread I'll say that if you do not have the need for the accessible stalls you should avoid them. If you need to urgently go and there is a queue for the regular stall then I won't hold it against you for using an accessible stall in a public place. This should be a get in, get out type of thing for the most part. Ideally keeping the it open for those who need it more often than not. I recall when I was younger and we went on a school excursion. We had 6 students including myself using wheelchairs and the location had a single accessible stall. 6 is not a huge number by any means and we started pretty early but it still took all of the 1hr lunch time and a little extra to get everyone through. Some of us are fairly quick. We park the chair, we transfer, do the deed and then exit once cleaned up. Others have a much longer process especially when bringing in carers and possibly using catheters etc. Some of the students were quite heavy and needed assistance with transfers or undressing so this takes a lot more effort and time. Using the toilets are not even the worse offense imo. By far the worse thing you can do is to leave the toilet in a disgusting state once you're done. This is regardless of whether you have a disability or not. Leaving it in a state where the next user may not be able to use it without cleaning is irresponsible and inconsiderate to say the least. The next user may not be able to physically clean up and the next closest assessible stall could be quite far, the user might have difficulty with movement etc. Just really, really poor form and frustrating experiences. There are usually phone numbers for service and assistance. Call in for a clean up as you leave.

This is really interesting. I also found MH4U pacing in single player to be the one I preferred but I at times felt that running low on supplies became a chore, especially after hours of mining, gathering, crafting etc having played from gen 2. MH is one of those games that gives challenging and rewarding gameplay so well. That first Great Jagras takes 15 minutes. If you went back into the quest naked with a basic weapon you can clear it much faster as you have improved so much since. I'll also say I can think of few games that have enemies with as much detail and variety. We often talk about combat mechanics and encounter designs but part of the equation is also enemy design. Everything from appearance, animations and audio cues play a huge role in giving the monsters life and making them standout. After so many hours you can tell exactly what monster just crept up behind you to interrupt your hunt just from the roar you hear. That is so damn good.

Thread Ok, so are any of these mobile RPGs I constantly see ads for actually worth a damn?
The thing you need to realise with gacha games is that they have no end. It is not a legitimate RPG in the sense that you have your heroes set out and eventually finish your adventure. The gacha rpg games are typically a few heroes featured prominently in most stories, many side characters you recruit (through daily lootbox for example or earning credits via in game achievement/rewards or buying with cash) and a continuous or multiple stories. Usually you have events that bring in some side stories and new characters. Very rarely will there be deep or meaningful changes in story that affect your characters. Deaths in the story won't prevent them from being used for example. Sometimes the mechanics and simple loot box dopamine can be enjoyed but you need to make sure you don't fall prey to the game's predatory tactics in convincing you to bring out your wallet. I play Epic7 currently but have played a couple of other gacha games.

In terms of CDom I'm entertained by the prospect of having a bunch of regular doms to speed boost the rank promotion process as well but in terms of single target dps I have quite a few. I guess another factor is who I can reasonably gear well enough and I'm not sure I can gear another DPS at the moment, especially when I want to upgrade my current ones a bit more. I'm also a little wary of CDom's crit buff. I don't want to be reliant on her for obtaining crit in case I have situations I don't want to bring her and then I'm stuck with fiddling gear for certain heroes to get that crit rate back.

You have a lot of fantastic characters. Don't fall into the trap of trying to gear all of them or even trying to fast track level them just yet. You want to build a full team of 6* as this goes a long way in PvE. Then you can start branching out with what else you need. Wyvern: Luluca, Sigret(or a budget Alexa), Angelica and General Purrgis Lulu's def break + damage. Sigret stacking bleed, def pen on S3 and general dps. More debuffs weakens wyvern. General Purrgis is quite strong but you need to build him tanky. Every hit he tanks your team gets combat readiness meaning your whole team goes faster. At W11 wyvern only attacks tank spot hero until that hero dies so he will be speeding your DPS up constantly. He is also strong in a variety of other content including PvP later. For Alexa you are relying on her crit and poison to do the damage. She doesn't need high attack because poison deals % HP damage. Supposedly Chloe is also very good and one of the best single target boss damage dealers. I don't have her and don't like her so I can't comment on her beyond that but probably a viable option too. You already have Vildred so I wouldn't bother with Kayron for now. Ken is fantastic and can use the abyss lifesteal to great affect. Give him some HP and he holds his own very well. Ken on def break + dps with Sol is who I currently have running Golem. You need to focus and gear/level your heroes to clear content. Don't spread yourself too thing but if you really like one hero such as J. Kise that doesn't mean you shouldn't use her. Just work on a small team and don't neglect getting a good healer. Angelica & Ruele will both go a long way. Lastly, don't forget artefacts. When I was first struggling with Golem my healer using Wondrous Potion Vial made such a huge difference.

I had this opinion too. It was definitely a gear and investment issue. Don't get me wrong, Ravi is really good, especially early and honestly she still carries me on some content but her strengths differ to Ken's. Ravi's kit is quite unique and her crazy ass S1 soul burn can not only one shot most early-mid pve bosses but also top up her hp. She is an incredible budget hero because you can slap gear onto her in a variety of ways and she still works. She can walk dogs slowly. I still use her to solo pve stages on the hardest difficulty in most cases as I level up dogs and other heroes. Late game however investment into her falls off a bit. Meanwhile, making Ken tankier (HP) makes him hit harder while being tougher to kill. Def break is one of the most important debuffs as it increases damage tremendously and Ken has it on both S1 and S2 with S2 being almost guaranteed if he has S3 buff. I have both these heroes and they work well together. Ravi gets high attack gear, Ken gets hp gear. Ken def break with Ravi soul burn followup is fantastic. Throw in Hazel for attack up for Ravi and that is pretty much Golem11 dead (assuming Ravi is fully warmed up). Ken is harder to gear than Ravi early on from my experience. Ravi can get away with really budget builds like Ancient Sheathe, casual attack set and maybe mola into S1 if at all. In some ways it is kind of bullshit what Ravi can get away with using minimal effort while a lot of heroes need a lot more to shine.

Ultimately it is still a fanservice Musou filled with beloved characters accross multiple IPs. In this regard it is inferior to WO3U but that game went through many iterations of improvement as well. I do think this game is a little weak when compared to its prequel. I think the new mechanics are a little weak, modes a bit boring and story is not exciting at all. That said, I did have some fun with it and leveling up some of my preferred characters was still quite fun. I definitely got my "musou fix" out of it but I burned pretty quickly and had no interest in maxing all characters or anything like that. Hopefully the expansion adds compelling gameplay additions.

I'm pretty low effort in Arena. I can probably push into Challenger but that takes too much effort. At this point the skystones are nice but what I'd rather have is a dump of conquest points to get some charms and boost the gear I have sitting around and hope for some good rolls. There is also the arena equipment sets when the season kicks in again and the weekly mola. Arena is probably my least favourite part of the game just because it feels so forced and unrewarding unless you push it more actively..

I actually found Ravi pretty good on relatively basic gear. At least her gear is flexible, even on the artefact front I have her running Ancient Sheathe and she just stands in the fight for most PvE content well enough. I'm running attack set with speed boots. I only mola'd her S1 so she she can sustain and deal damage (her S1 burn is her biggest damage dealer). Her S3 isn't really necessary and while S2 is sort of nice I didn't bother with it either. Attack, bit of HP, bit of resistance and she is pretty much ok for bruiser duty. If you really want to make her shine then yeah I guess better gear but I'm genuinely surprised at what I can get away with considering I haven't touched her gear since... Early S2 arena.I agree with Yufine's dispels. I think it would have been better if she has a passive follow up attack if she strikes a buffed enemy, her first attack dispells and the follow up clobbers them. Actually I think I was following your Ravi's examples. I swear I'll bench her some day. Maybe for Corvus now...

I think C.Lorina is still very strong. She doesn't have much in terms of debuff, just some CR push which is fantastic on its own but this also means she excels in areas where you cannot debuff or have limited debuffs. She is a pretty decent pick for raid. I like her S3 animation after spec change but I can't really get past the stupid armor personally.

Yeah for sure. Candlestick was more of a stray idea, at my casual level of pvp debuffs are pretty much what locks me down most of the time. My ML Ravi is currently only mid 40s so I really haven't given her much thought beyond that, I'm not certain I'll actually have gear or a place for her yet. I'm considering her for raid perhaps but since I have red Ravi at 60 being the one who carried me through early game and some of lategame it feels like a long way before ML can take over, if at all. Good to know that Uberius will not trigger her res, I doubted it as well.I don't think you can get upgraded mola from growing seeds at all. You need to trade 4 regular for the 1 mola go in the shop. There is also a mola weekly from conquest (arena points) shop.Fluri is still one of my strongest tanks, I don't have too many tanks though. I have Carmin who is overall better defensively and better geared at this point but in some fights Fluri is remains excellent and probably better. Fluri is one of my only geared buff strippers so that helps tremendously and def break + provoke is pretty much excellent all round. Her nerf was incredibly necessary. Essentially she had a built in R&L artefact, so every turn she had a chance for an extra turn so even just spamming S1 she was healing, pushing and overall being incredibly annoying. I don't think she is in a bad place now but her investment is quite high if you have other good options. There was a while where I benched Fluri as I took gear for other characters but over time I gave her a spare, poorly rolled speed set and she sort of rocks it pretty well even with subpar gear. The best part is she is still level 50 -_-

I'm not really using my ML Ravi but for now she is carrying spare candlestick. Figured on the off chance she gets to smack someone again with S3 might be good. I'm really skeptical of Crimson Seed since it only works once per turn and only dispells a single debuff. I'm a little curious if Tooth would trigger her res but since Tooth's damage scales off attack and she scales of HP that isn't a great synergy either. I guess if I end up using her i might give her Strak if I can't build her resistance high enough. Or maybe Durandal if I manage to get that. I should have bought another Sigurd before the powder shop reset but really want a R&L for my thieves.

Thread Sandbox MMORPG Black Desert Hits PS4 August 22
I've put a lot of hours into this on PC but I definitely consider myself a casual player at best. While combat is what drew me in and also what kept me amused a lot of the times I didn't really have the time or ping to bother with any serious PvP. Even world bosses was a bit of a laggy mess for me though they were fun in their own way I guess. I do encourage people to give this game a shot, there is some fun here certainly before any p2w stuff is noticeable. More frustrating is probably some of the QoL features that require payment such as weight, inventory slots and pets (loot pickup). But I played a month before getting any of these it was still enjoyable. I would definitely try without before diving in with the cash though. What BDO offered was interesting and unique enough for me to stick to it since I couldn't find the same sort of experience elsewhere. Notably the node/worker system where you connected parts of the map together and hired workers from each city to go collect resources and haul them back the local main town. I think FF14 has something similar with retainers but I fully admit I haven't looked into this to see if they are actually comparable in any sense. Mapping out how to spend my contribution points, expand my node network and gathering resources I needed was more strategy and sim like than I expected. This was much more amusing than I had anticipated. Character creation is fun but also oddly and frustratingly limited in dumb ways too. It also looks like they only have one of my preferred classes there. I can't deny the effectiveness of Witch and Wizard but Sorceress is my favourite of the lot there. I went in originally expecting a ranged magic slinging character but instead found this aggressive, lunging in your face magic claws or near point blank magic blasts with lots of flipping around. I'm also assuming awakening isn't in the game yet which means you have basic sword and board warrior and valk As with most MMO. BDO has heaps of side activity. How much of it is compelling vs boring chores/time sinks is probably personal preference and based on what you have played already. For a casual like me, I liked experimenting to see what different things in game offered but I didn't dive deep enough to make good income off anything. Similarly I have more than 10 classes at fairly high levels because I liked trying them but I don't have any that reaches soft cap or have competitive pvp gear.Definitely not for you. There are no raids nor any real dungeons.

Sure, I get this somewhat, you want to protect your income as well but I feel like the rift between shouldn't be expanding like what is described. Especially when the point of these reimbursements are to address issues players had with the game. I think using other games as an example is also somewhat silly because the rates, balance and systems within each game are all different so your experience isn't necessarily all about your pulls either. Rather than focusing on what other games are doing and getting away with we should be looking at what is wrong here.

This is a fascinating read for me. Since I'm really low effort and and had very little expectations I'm already satisfied but this reddit post definitely highlights some of the problems the games' systems have. The way it rewards those who spends the most and extends the gap between them and f2pers like myself is only going to make the game less enjoyable for everyone I think. This was me a few days ago. I feel like even if they buffed him it doesn't change the fact that we would have a ML5* sitting here useless for some degree of time where as some of the other ML even if not broken could be great for different set ups or have at least worth considering. Thread Having AI companions throughout the game makes it more enjoyable
I think this is a bit of a double edged sword. When companions are good they enhance the game for me definitely. Othertimes the adventure is broken by frequent annoyances. I think strong companions can really help characterization and make the story more interesting. It sort of connects more emotionally and emphatically where as solo experiences is more about experiencing gameplay elements at my own pace and experimenting with all the tools I have to work with. The enjoyment I get is a bit different so I find it hard to compare them really. I think some games with temporary team ups are also superb. This is a good example of AI companions that did very little for me. It didn't help that they had a build up of expectations with lore and then in game the spartans were sort of weak and extremely ineffective for the most part. Meanwhile, in Halo Reach the AI for Noble Team was a bit simple maybe (no commands, can't revive etc) but they were fun to have around. They were virtually invincible, had a bit of a personality and could still actually help on higher difficulties at times. Older Halo games also felt quite good in temporary allies. From the marines to the covenant, it did feel like you were the special force that turns the tide of combat. They were good at adding allies to make it feel like you're working together despite the games being you working mostly alone. The final boss in Halo 2 that needs a sniper to lower the shields was also a neat little twist that I appreciated.

If you're like me you probably have a few favourites and not sure who to really invest in. Another 6* means very little if you can't gear them up which is reliant on layers upon layers of RNG grinding. What is everyone running Sea Bell with? I've basically transferred Silk's gear over which is speed, a little tanky and hit. All her damage gear was swapped onto others ages ago such as Cidd or Baiken so Silk is officially benched now. I've even taken her Infinity Basket. I don't have many speed subs on her but she is already pretty quick. I'm considering putting her in my Wyvern 11 team. Thinking about going from Luna, Angie, Dizzy, Clarissa to Luna, Sea Bellona, Angie, Sigret. I'm hoping some lucky target + def break will allow me to 1 turn clear wyvern. Should I swap Basket for Rosa? I also have Sword of Judgment and Song of Stars or I suppose there is always joker. Also, how and what do I build Spec Sez for? My first ML5*

Yeah, the AI in Toukiden also ninja dodge like crazy trying to walk in and res you. SSD as well (I seem to recall reading the AI in SS was awful but op in Delta). Meanwhile my little Palico is cute as hell but whiffs vigor wasps pretty frequently which I'm not even mad about to be honest. Trying to adjust to get it adds a tiny layer for error that I am perfectly ok with. Pawns in DD is an entire system in itself so it is harder to compare I think. I guess your accessory/robot buddy in Freedom Wars is also interesting in that each player has their own (mostly) permanent AI ally. If AI could thorn res in this game it would have be incredibly broken.

Possibly but I don't think this feature is entirely new either. In Soul Sacrifice you can summon another player's character as an ally and it is updated via player card. I can't remember if Toukiden, GE or FW had this or not. Palicoes are great and has been expanding off the side kick ally for single player MH has for some time now. I don't think it compares well or directly to pawns or ai allies. One of the primary differences is that in other games the player can be downed and revived by allies but in MH you simply faint. AI in some of the other games can easily handle small and some large enemies on their own. They provide support such as healing (GE healer AI is legit bullshit and a better shot with healing bullets than players most of the time). Palicoes are fantastic, charming allies that can be set up for various roles but rarely can they take care of several smaller enemies on their own let alone the occasional bigger ones. DD and MH definitely share and bounced ideas and mechanics off each other. DD started the climb on monster thing and eventually we saw monster mounting in MH. DD also had the warrior class which has a skill that is essentially the GS's charge attack. I imagine the Ur Dragon to be relevant experience drawn on when developing MHW's golden elder dragon which I can't recall the name of. I remember a lot of theories on what would be added to MH4 from DD and MH Generations was thought to be taking inspiration from DD and DMCs.

Thread God Eater sucks and that makes me sad.
It almost feels unfair to compare honestly. I would say MH is much more mature and has Capcom's finance backing it to make sure that it is at least feel more polished to me than others. I certainly really like the other games both in what they bring forth new and what they try to differ in. It is hard to pick a Dev years of experience with games like Street Fighter and Devil May Cry with most other Devs. Overall I still believe Soul Sacrifice' systems have the most to offer with sneaky combinations of offerings and even status effect combos for multiplayer. The save/sacrifice system itself is super interesting and this doesn't even go into the characters or ai. I can only dream of the outcome if these other series had the same success and time to mature as MH has. Some of the crossover quests in SS were also some of my favourites.I think MH took a lot from other games as well, particularly their successes and innovative aspects, they take inspiration and spin it in their way. One aspect of GE I really like is the switching between gun and blade. I see this swapping of playstyle a little with the SA and CB. Taking a bite from the monsters to power up and gain ammo is another aspect I found interesting and the IG feels mildly similar. Right down to the dust being detonatable by allies and can have different effects (like custom bullets, sort of). The thorn from Freedom Wars adds huge movement advantage and some small strategic elements against the monsters. Slingers sort of take their own spin here but is limited to wedge Beatles. I would argue the thorn is one of the most innovative addition into the genre and even the demon claw in Toukiden 2 feels like it is inspired from it. As for AoT2 I'm glad you like it. It is one of the most unique musou games. There isn't much else like it and while most stages revolve around zipping around slicing up Titans it feels very satisfying. The unique character perspective is also interesting and gives it a different spin than the anime. A shame this part doesn't carry on to the season 3 expansion content. I haven't got that far myself but the base game is quite fun and enjoyable.

I like playing them, trying new features, following improvements etc as well. My issue is that GE series in particular didn't feel like it addressed a lot of my main concerns particularly the early game balance/curve. No other hunting game series has a progression where I can pick just about any weapon and snore through combat so easily. Even Soul Sacrifice and Freedom Wars picks up faster. A really interesting B grade not sure if in genre hunting game is Lost Planet. Can't speak for LP3 but the game was pretty interesting. It has fun little grappling hook that I always wished went into MH as well. LP felt like it took some inspiration from Gears of War, it is a 3rd person shooter and you fight monsters ranging from small spider like enemies to huge MH Lao Shan Lung types. You went around setting up recharge stations and have some mechs you you can mess around with. It makes me wonder what might be if Capcom took some of the newer RE mechanics into the series. I imagine Dragon's Dogma's pawn system might also one day see a variation for AI allies in MH.

I didn't end up getting GE3. As curious as I am to try it I haven't finished neither GE1 not 2 at this point. The end game grind is generally the meat of the games and unfortunately I grew a bit bored of it too quickly or in GE1's case I simply couldn't stomach the slow pacing to the end a second time (I first played on PSP years ago). At this point I have too much else on my plate and have read too much of the same "if you like GE2 then expect some more of that with minor a bit of additions" opinions on GE3. I legit do not see a time where I might be willing to give GE3 the benefit of the doubt that it is worth my time over Toukiden 2 which I have still yet to get (I still want to play with that claw thing). Now with Iceborne looming I doubt I'll get to T2 either. For discussion, I'm happy to chat about hunting games. I was part of the God Eater discord for a while until I realise I likely won't get to it. We did have GE channels in MH discord era as well though it maybe replaced as it dropped in popularity. You might find some others who are more insightful about GE3 though. Regarding the comment about coming back despite not loving the combat. This is something I've found in a variety of games. I think the above average ceiling for skilled gameplay with a variety of difficulty can be enjoyable to just play and have some fun. I consider musou games to be similar, sometimes you just want to blitz around the map and be awesome in an anime superhero type style. Currently I have Attack on Titan 2 doing exactly this. Combat is not the most compelling, it is simple (ignoring the crazy jump cancel stuff lol) and zipping through the air at high speeds slaughtering titans is oddly therapeutic. It is pleasantly enjoyable as a bit of a wind down gaming session at the end of the day as I need to pay just the right amount of attention for my liking and there is still higher difficulty missions if I wanted to tackle that. Regarding hunting game demos... I feel most done give a good feel of what end game grinding or progression will be. Part of the fun is not only mastering the combat but crafting gear and skills to increase efficiencies. A demo is hard to convey the latter stuff. For MH veterans can sort of jump into a quest and get a feel of the combat. I imagine a lot of newer players will feel like being thrown out to the velociprey.

Thread God Eater sucks and that makes me sad.
Yes certainly. But even vs easy monsters I'm dashing around with slash cancels. I guess I wasn't very clear. I didn't mean to say the game is easy or not challenging or anything like that but more that the missions have a familiar rhythm to them and for the most part the objectives are clear and precise. Other genres might have deliveries, collections, story scenes and other interruptions. In hunting game genres these are mostly absent except for quests that specifically target these, which are mostly rare. The game doesn't throw many sudden new objectives at you. Rarely do you go into a quest without knowing what to expect. At end game there is little to no story or cutscenes remaining it is just you and your monster. If you have secondary objectives like breaking parts those are also often familiar. So zipping around is pretty much how I played GE games, I wasn't always about efficiency or difficulty but just playing the game and doing what might be considered busy work but also familiar and with a decent loot/reward system enjoyable. There are certainly missions where I have to pay attention. I can bet money that missions I cleared back in the day would be impossible for me right now as I lack the familiarity but with familiarity, my casual blitzing around was fun and kept me coming back. Edit. Interestingly enough, I knocked GE, Toukiden and others for some of the uninspiring designs such as shinies for collectables and mostly flat stages. However over 100 hours of MHW I feel now that it is a matter of balance. Older monster hunters I often felt it was a thrilling showdown with the monster and in a way this remains true for MHW but creating a more believable world the maps in MHW sometimes get in the way for me. A lot of distractions around the map, especially now that it is without loading zones and having so many interactable items on field. Tracks, pod drops, wedge Beatles, plants, shrooms, minerals, critters, etc. All of these add up to make the game visually impressive yet also a bit tiring after so many hours. I still like the game a lot but I do miss the plain, more arena like zones of the older games at times. Some of the old showdown fights are extremely memorable but with world I find my memory of my favourite encounters to be a bit fuzzy with the exception of the elder dragons since the map empties of other monsters when those quests are active.

Thread God Eater sucks and that makes me sad.
The only hunting game that had a story worth a damn is Soul Sacrifice in my opinion. The stories in there are dark, grim and at times down right harrowing. Freedom War's story makes little to no sense and is filled with anime tropes. Toukiden's isn't awful but suffers much the same and GE's is anime and poorly paced all the way through.I'd definitely rate them second. While they have characters and stories the actual characterization and plot are fairly think. Majority of them have similar motivations and really aren't that interesting. Granted I haven't played Toukiden 2 beyond the demo but it really seemed to be more or less the same style as Toukiden and if that is the case then I feel that even just counting Aegrus alone, he is far more interesting than the other characters. One of my main annoyances with the games is actually beyond combat and whether or not it clicks I'd like to have some side activities that aren't completely trash. Monster Hunter had gathering, mining, bug catching, fishing, egg quests etc none of which are exactly award winning, compelling gameplay but there is at least variety there. Looking at some of the others they opted for some really cheap feeling alternatives. Rather than noticeable gathering/collecting points we have "shinies" on the ground. The detective vision to is used to find additional items or enemies or points of interests or enemy weak spots rather than visual/audio cues. Even something as dumb as collecting Poogie costumes in MH4U was very much an enjoyable bonus to me, seeing Poogie stuck in odd places or in peril and awaiting rescue wasn't really compelling but it was a nice little added touch. Freedom Wars did some interesting things with the rescue and abduction stuff. Fighting humans were pretty bad and the combat in general felt awfully balanced (weapon type wise in particular) but it still has a lot of unique features going for it that held it up again despite many annoyances I experienced. I am particularly disappointed with GE series for being a longer series than most of the others but failing to deliver at least some QoL improvements. Trying to find out where to get that one item you need for an upgrade without consulting a guide can be a nightmare. Tones of repetitive missions you need to play to progress story when really you should be able to push the story in blocks and detour for upgrades. Bullet customisation remains one of its most unique features and I still think it could stand to be a bit more interesting or easier to use the bullet editor or set element of bullet to a switch with a cool down so you don't have to carry as many bullets or set as many loadouts. So many little steps that simply become tedious. Combat is definitely what holds GE together for me but even so the pacing and lack of difficulty at the beginning makes it difficult to enjoy the game in full. I can give some thoughts on Toukiden 1, Freedom Wars, GE2RB, MH 2/Unite/3U/4U, MHW, Soul Sacrifice Delta if any one is interested in something particular.

The feel and control of Geralt in TW3. I think neck and ring are the best ones as they give useful main stats and have pretty good substats for RNG with. Necks and Rings also cost more to craft. Boots might be good if you don't need the speed main stat. I think a good strategy is to look at your current teams' equipment and consider them as a stand alone piece before usefulness in a set.

On the topic of gacha designs. I started Oh My Office on a whim because it looked cute with the chibi characters. Some of the designs are quite nice. The profile descriptions are pretty bad sometimes and there are still some designs that I side eye a bit. I haven't got a lot of high rarity workers but that seems fine because I prefer the appearance of the lower rarity ones and this doesn't seem to be the type of game that needs much team building. I could stack just bring one or two decent works and usually clear the stage. Petra is probably one of my favourite designs from the game.I found a website. They have bit more characters than this, seems the site's character list needs an update. I'm sure she is decent in the game but her character and design are just not for me.

I've tried majority of the platform fighters, my favourite is by far Roof Rage. This and Rivals are probably the ones I liked most but I lean towards Roof Rage. The cast is pretty diverse both in appearance and in fighting style, all taken from popular martial artstyles. The developer has a discord channel for the game and you can challenge him to matches. I'm not very good at the game but I really enjoyed my time with it. I haven't actually played since the Muay Thai fighter so there is also the ninja and Sumo I haven't tried. Connecting with Thyra's hammer is super satisfying and I did not expect to enjoy the roof tile mechanics. It was just oddly enjoyable being able to randomly pluck a tile off the roof for a throwable projectile. The retro style is a bit of a hit or miss for me but I really love the stages and backgrounds.

Ken is a great hero but the danger of using off element on wyvern 11 is that each attack will increase wyvern's combat readiness. W11 is quick already so speeding it up might be dangerous, especially if your Ken is quick +his self speed buff. I wouldn't go more than 1 off element unless it is just to setup a massive nuke with def breaks, attack ups etc. You can always try since yield or fails don't really cost anything other than time spent. You might try swap Dizzy for a budget Alexa with Joker. Landing some poisons will help not only lower damage to your tank but also deal some good damage on top. I'm considering Alexa myself since once I have her setup I don't really need to take her out or rework her since W11 will be her main job while some of my others such as Luna I still use in PvE or PvP.Reading this like I am staring at a mirror. On the other hand, this is generally how it starts with me and GaaS games. Slow drip of disappointment until I quit and look for something else. I don't think that a game such as this can really be irrecoverable when it comes to balance. There are bold changes they could try but it feels like every step is tied to whaling incentives that side lines addressing some of the issues.

My first full team of 6 stars felt like it took forever. It was also somewhat tormenting trying to decide which character would be most efficient to 6* first. I ended up neglecting tanks and healers in favour of pure offense to clear stages faster, walk dogs easier, etc. However, once you have one or two it does feel like it is easier. Your 6* can begin to carry the team, help you get better gear and make the general grinding easier. Things like grinding event currency to get the golden dog fodder or buying the ones in the shops, burning stigma and friendship points to push out dogs every now and then goes a long way. My least favourite part now is actually all the menu work with the dogs. Hopefully the QOL update in this area is soon. But yeah, as others kept telling me. Progress in this game takes time. :\

You can probably leave Alexa and Taranor Guard at lv50. You might even make a full lv50 team but the issue here is that you need stronger gear to compensate for having less states on your characters. Your attackers need to be tanky enough to survive some stray hits from the 1st round of enemies. After that wyvern attacks your lead unit until they die before switching to random targets. I would consider this team Alexa (joker, poison, dps) Taranor Guard (Def break, assist, joker and dps) Diene (attack up, barrier) Angelica (healing) You could use diene or Angelica to tank here. Angelica on tanking should probably use candlestick or waters origin.

I use Luna Sol and Ravi, had to swap out Ken because he has def break on S1 >_> It can be a bit tricky to deal enough damage while not dying to constant poison. Luckily for me with my setup Ravi and Sol (Abyss lifesteal set) have their own sustain meaning my healer can focus on Luna. I'm thinking Monty might be better for this than Angelica.

Are you on the NDIS? If not you should definitely sign up asap. The job of being a carer can be incredibly tough however it is important you maintain your own health and get the medication and support you need before considering how to help your mother. Health complications while trying to help someone else will only complicate things unfortunately. You might also consider trying Respite Care. They often offer emergency carer assistance and hopefully there is one near you. Contacting your local council or centrelink to see what support services are available to you is another option. Centrelink also has multilingual phone service if you or your mother needs it. Once you have your own concerns squared away you can look towards helping your mother. There are a lot of support for carers too. I can't say how you might approach her in this matter, perhaps you can contact carer line and speak to someone for advice yourself first. Most of my knowledge of this comes from services available in NSW but NDIS is nationwide and other states should also have similar services to respite even if under a different name.

Checking in on doggy levels now and then. Occasionally grabbing chests etc. Then there is the refilling of stamina either I munch leaves or I claim that massive stockpile of soon to be expired stamina events have been throwing at me. Running event side story is sometimes worse. Run not for more exp but less currency? Faster runs, faster need to reset, faster filling of inventory full of equipment fodder. Also more urgent missions it which is just more clicks to swap between places in the grind. Go all in for currency? 30 stamina per run, not strong enough to field 3 fodders for leveling and need to refill stamina faster.

I think the gacha rate is average/decent compared to what I've played. Ultimately still RNG which means you could have incredible bad streaks or be like Mupod leaving a trail of salt for all of us here. The game is relatively generous with currency for pulls and there are a surprising amount of 3* and 4* that are quite strong when invested, especially for PvE. This is in terms of standard banners and characters. The moonlight/mystic ones are awful but also contain that tiny chance for some of the strongest and most broken characters. In general I think the rates aren't particularly good but the some of the common characters are also incredibly useful or gamebreaking in some areas in ways that make regular 5*s dream. Kiris is still a common fall back for a lot of people trying to climb the Abyss floors and she is only 3*. Alexa is a strong candidate for early wyvern 11 dps. There are some others that are pretty great in their own fields. Limited characters I suspect will make a comeback later. So far all the limited characters on a banner or side story event has been pretty good. Some of the smaller limited characters such as Zeno and Serila are less impressive but these were virtually free and didn't need to be pulled, only participating in the event enough. With limited banners they come with a pity drop at 121 pulls so some of us keep a stockpile in case a limited banner falls on us. End game revolves around building a teams strong enough to get past tough challenges in Tower of Abyss, this also means dealing with gearing and the layers of RNG within that. There is also the raid dungeon, hell difficulty for this has recently been fully unlocked. There is a 100 floor Tower type challenge that resets every month that has been talked about but isn't released yet. PvP side there is Arena and Guild Wars which has its own issues. As a mostly f2per (I bought the cheap monthly pack once) I find I'm gated on other resources and have more heroes I want to build than I can actually get to. Heroes will come with time invested as will gear but trying to upgrade multiple heroes and gears to do all the content takes time. Get a team to clear tough PvE content > Obtain RNG equipment > Upgrade equipment with more RNG > repeat for more or different characters/gears. Re-rolling I think the recommended approach is to reroll using PC emulator running multiple instances to hit 1-10 where you get the selective summon (10 pulls with 30 resets if you don't like the selection). New players have a lot of currencies earned just playing through story etc. For a while people say you should roll for Angelica (4* healer) but with Angelic Montmomancy I'm not sure this is still as highly recommended. If only this was possible lol.

Violet, complained about him on discord so of course I'll get him for my free 5* pull. Yufine, trying to pull Tywin. I did want more green heroes because I was mostly fire heavy before but I was really hoping for, well, pretty much any of the other green 5*s. Mostly Vildred, Bell and Charles. Ludwig would have been nice too since I have Achates and CArmin. The game has a desire sensor though and will just give you salt. My team roster is pretty warrior heavy at the moment.

Depends what you mean but generally speaking, no. He is good but not essential by any means. I can definitely work with his kit and I think he is a very strong offensive tank hero who also looks really good. He won't be soloing PvE content or very good at walking dogs I don't think. Some people have him as part of their PvP cleave. I think most heroes that aren't OP or borderline OP tend to have some use but it also depends on who else you have to work with. In my case I don't have too many tanks built and having one that can aoe def break at 100% chance (still subject to res/effectiveness/immunty etc) is pretty nice. I also don't have a lot of buffers so while his S2 buff is only for himself and a single ally it is still attractive to me. Dispelling buff (his S1) is something I've been struggling with outside of Dizzy with Violin so this was also somewhat attractive though I guess in this area Yufine is better. You can check out Tywin and other heroes here: I have put 150ish bookmarks into Tywin banner. Not sure if I should stop or just keep throwing every 5 bookmarks I get at it. I still have saved stash of skystones for a pity if a limited banner comes up but I've been reckless with stray bookmarks lately.

Yeah I think that is right. Her S3 however costs Fighting Spirit to cast. Which would lower her S2 attack buff back down. Currently the S3 scales off her attack and fighting spirit (so using it at 100FS will be the strongest while at 75 it is weaker but still applies aoe stun). The new S3 still costs FS to cast but now instead of extra scaling from FS it scales off damage taken which could be its own counter or something like Krau's missing health damage scaling. Edit. Oh wait. I misunderstood you. You're saying that her attack buff stays on even if her FS lowers but it has a cap so it can't continually build up. So the FS would just be for pushing more S3s once attack buff is maxed... This is interesting too. It could possibly make bullshit counter lifesteal Ravi scenarios.

From what I see she revs up to full power much faster. S3 will still tank her dmg since it doesn't change the fighting spirit cost that i can see. Instead the multipliers have changed to increase with her attack and lost health so basically it allows for panic cleaves with stun and faster fighting spirit regeneration once that goes down. What I'm wondering is whether her S3's damage increase is off missing HP or a seperate counter for damage taken that adds up over time even as she heals back up with S1, because if it is the latter that sounds potentially horrifying depending on what the cap on it is. Shame they can't make her look not trash. I do like her kit and S3 animation.

I don't think High Command from the sanctuary is worth running for gold, I run Conquest and Ancient Coins. I think he is still a very strong fire mage, I recently considered him vs Ten vs Aram for my fire mage aoe and went with Ten for def break S3 and CR S2. Baal does seem quite strong if he can land his debuffs. You can also use his imprints future Sage Baal if you're lucky enough to draw him.I'd love a Kise. Ken is great. Grats!

Thread Have time limits ever improved a game?
It really depends on how it is used, time limits are basically a mechanic and it can be used well in short bursts or in the background. For Majora I think it works because it revolves around a 3 day cycle where the point is to learn schedules of NPCs and be at the right place at the right time to do what needs to be done. There are some irritating moments such as missing a dead line and having to reset the world but overall my experience with the game isn't too frustrating. Games with day/night cycles such as Stardew Valley are great with time limits. Time and energy are a resource and you need to consider how you want to use it. The enjoyment here is a sort of relaxing time improving your farm or relationships. Restricted from constantly working towards your end goal to some might feel artificial but it is a mechanic to control the pacing. The enjoyment for me here is the journey and not the goal so it sort of works. Animal Crossing is another game with time limits. This one can really be irritating as sometimes I just cannot play when the game's citizen are most active. Some events are held from the start of the day but if i can only check in late in the evening then I virtually miss out and my animals love to rub salt into the wound by telling me how much fun they had. Sure, you can time travel but having done this in older AC games I found it ultimately took enjoyment away from it as well. Time limits can also be the challenge of the game. Cook, Serve, Delicious for example is about serving all the food and doing the chores around your restaurant in time.

For each piece the main stat will increase as you level it up. One random substat will increase every 3 levels. This is why late game gearing is so difficult. You need the right substats, then you need them to increase the way you want as you level it up. For gear that doesn't have all 4 substats yet one of the later upgrades will add a random substat into it.That is true but if you can one shot or almost one shot squishies without the bleed explosion then having DD would just quicken you to the next S2 S3 combo any way right? At the moment I'm running TS because my Baiken is kind of low on the attack and relies heavily on the bleed, my Cidd also relies heavily on DD since I don't have my else going for me with thief arts.

For Baiken I had the best experience with Dust Devil. While Torn Sleeve enables stronger, more guaranteed 1 shots in arena this is not as useful if the enemy has immunity. Dust Devil adds a lot of extra turns overall as it pushes her S2 which has its own turn reset and DD can proc off assists. My Torn Sleeve is only 15 though.

Thread Do you follow the 1 hour / dollar rule?
The amount of time it takes to beat a game certainly has some weight when it comes to deciding if I want to buy it now or later but it never works out like the rule here. I have a back log and there really isn't a need to buy close to release for me. I don't mind waiting until a sale for games I want if I already know I do not have the time to play them or have other games to play. If anything, a long game is less likely to be bought by me because it seems like a heavier commitment time wise. This is especially true if there are announced DLC for the game. I'm not really interested in playing most long games more than once. Ultimately time to beat isn't a huge consideration when I'm thinking about buying a game or what it is worth.

Definitely depends on the stage and how much of a struggle it is. For example in the Guilty Gear event Kayron was solo-able with Ravi for me. Zeno, despite being an easier boss was full of water units in the first two fights making Ravi a struggle as she needs some time to warm up so despite having an easier boss here I either had to adjust for a different farmer or bring an extra hero. This current event I can technically solo with Ravi but the chance of her spending days attacking mobs because of provoke is fairly high making some runs take forever. I bring three heroes just to breeze through it.

There is also the raid lab when you're ready for it. While the gear there is only 67 (88 for hard) they are still quite strong and at least make decent fodder. The stuff you can buy from the raid shop is expensive but aren't bad either, the rolls could also be extremely favourable as you level it. I'm still using quite a few 67 red pieces from the raid.

Thread So I tried some gatcha games...
Gacha games can be fun to play. Whether or not it sticks with me really depends on how I feel after the honeymoon phase where the games start to slow down in showering you with newbie rewards and you need to start looking at efficiency and management a bit more. Part of the fun I have with these games is the set up of teams and theory crafting what would work for different maps, this isn't always necessary but for me a good game will reward or push me to do this. On the other hand Bang Dream and games like it that have a more reaction based combat can be fun without really thinking too much. Just enjoy the characters you like and songs you like. It sucks when I miss out on characters/events that I sort of want but at the same time it doesn't feel as bad since they are more like skins any way. They aren't really game breaking like some of the characters in turn based gacha. In regards to gacha itself and its gambling nature I certainly think some games are more predatory than others and each of has have different levels of self control. Knowing this I am hesitant to recommend gacha games to people who may have addictive personalities and poor self control. I'm not sure where the majority is on this but I'm personally all for regulation in this area. Quality of the games are hit or miss I guess but I think there is certainly room for good content from a variety of perspectives. I was recently very impressed with Epic 7's Eulogy of a Saint side story. This side story explores some of the events that happened leading to chapter 1 and I think it is some of the best written mobile game story in a gacha game. I can't think of anything better at the moment at least. I had missed this event by the time I started playing but curiousity about the main characters in it (referenced or appears in other side content sometimes) and I ended up watching it on youtube. The video is over 2 hours and this is skipping combat. I'll link the video for those interested.

The thing with Lorina spec change is that it benefits from running lots of low stam quests since it seems each chance of an urgent showing up comes from clearing a quest regardless of difficulty. This also means hunts and spirit altars won't help. The way I did it was to grind normal side story while walking dogs/fodder. It was by far one of the worst requirements when I tried to get it naturally. Also, sometimes I would miss the announcement for urgent quests and they expired. :(Is your Lorina spec changed? Of the characters I think Angie is good but Dizzy and Sol are also excellent heroes. I would promote in that order and Commander Lorina if you like her. For the others, investing in them are can be good but I would try to focus on your core team and then a wyvern team. Some heroes can still be useful at 50. I only have 1 lv60 healer who is Angie but I may eventually bring up another. It is just working out which you like more and will make use of. Leveling up too many at the same time might lead you to later pulling a better unit for the same task, which happened to me repeatedly. :( Reminder that we can peek at heroes in the journal, check skills and even see their animations.

That team is pretty good. Getting through World can be a bit tough in some areas, especially as an all 50 team. Vildred is a very strong hero, of course he and everyone else is only as good as the investment you put in. His attack will go up as you increase his speed and attack stats. All his attacks are AoE, even his first skill hits more than a single enemy even if not every enemy, this makes him a great asset once geared for farming and clearing stages. He also covers water based stages quite well which Sol and Tene would struggle more in. You have other characters that are also quite strong, Chloe is a good boss killer as her debuff (magic nail) works very well on bosses. Clarissa is also a good farmer like Vildren but trades the s1 aoe for a single target with a chance to def break. Silk is one of the best early archers and works well in pushing your team mates to attack faster, especially with Infinite Basket artefact. If you're looking to replace Vildred I think Clarissa (farmer, def break), Karin (dps, thief type character, def break) or Lorina (versatile & strong dps without element weakness) is a good options Lorina will need heavy investment and spec change so I would personally put her in the back burner for now. On the other hand. You could also consider diving heavy into your current team and letting it carry you further until you farm up other heroes. I think your current team's most reliable heroes that you could use in multiple areas would be Angelica and Sol. Sol has % hp damage so he can work well on many bosses. His counter, silence and buff prevention are a bonus and his extra turn just adds to his dps. Angelica is very useful in a variety of content and will be your main tank until you have a proper one later so she will be important regardless. SaberX's suggestion to consider starting to build wyvern and golem teams are also quite good. In that sense I think Karin or Clarissa might be a good idea. For clearing World adventure you can rely on friend's support heroes. Wyvern, labs, abyss and challenges however you're on your own.

Haven't played Sekiro so I can't vote for that at all yet. NiOh has my favourite combat system. Bloodborne is probably all round the best and gets my vote. The overall gothic horror themes just made exploration part much more enjoyable. Dark Souls is a very good all rounder with better build variety than Bloodborne. Each DS game has its own strengths and part of the fun in this is to familiarise with the systems and break it apart through knowledge and understanding. Currently suffers a bit from having so many sequels but also the fact many games are taking elements from it. Gameplay mechanics that made it unique are a lot more common, sometimes maybe even done in a more interesting way. Dark Souls series has some of my favourite locations and set pieces.

If it is just you then perhaps you setup the defense team after the guild leader placed teams and he didn't get a chance to place late comers.I've given up trying to outspeed that nonsense. I've been on Master 3 range forever and speed + debuff is such an awful combination. You either have the heroes and stats to win or you do not. There is no skill or strategy to it from my experience. Weight is often a problem. A wagon or horse goes a long way. What is weighing you down? Over time you can spend loyalty credits on weight expansion, highly worth it. On pc it costs 2500, 100 per day. You get 50 weight but limited to 4 per character. Grunil armor is incredibly heavy. The ap is good but oof it was rough early on. Getting a good belt will help too. If the Asula accessory set is available definite try to get that (and the rest of the set) as it is relatively easy and goes a long way. Otherwise some magic crystals could be some nice qol weight expansion.

I don't know if XBO game has the same packs but I'm happy with the money I spent on value packs. The boost in weight, inventory slots, exps and free dye+character customisation changes are just easy fun. Making my character look awesome while fighting and trying out new costumes is part of my enjoyment of the game and access to node investment from map menu is much better than having to trek out to each node you want to link up. It can be a bit of a trap though, if you have workers bringing in heaps of resources (often which contains some junk items as well) your city storage will fill quickly. This also means once the value pack lapse and the space gets reduced your workers might not be able to work. Striker and Mystic are probably top 3 for me in terms of leveling them and just stomping on mobs. Their speed and power feels incredible.

Thread Black Desert |OT| Fish. AFK. Repeat.
What are the differences between XBO version and PC anyway? Are they a bit behind?I think the best approach is to think about some goals you want to achieve. If all you want to do is level at the moment there are guides for that and it is incredibly easy to do. However the main story quests are worth slogging through once or twice if only because it gives you some enhancing materials and some other nice items such as the roaring chest armor. Sure, the armor is not going to last and doesn't upgrade through normal means but it is quite decent for beginners and allows you to invest in other armor slots first. I recommend doing the black spirit quests for now and breaking away once you complete the quest for level 50 (there is a specific quest for it). Then you can look to moving on for more grinding or pursing some other activities such as exploration, cooking, fishing etc. Do note however that there is no real instant fast travel so if you setup a home for cooking in Velia but you're adventuring in Valencia (you don't know where this is but it is quite far) then it will take a while to get back to cooking. For this reason many players make secondary cooking characters who just chill in a specific city to do various tasks. How far along in the quests are you? The first set of main quests are quite lengthy but the others are less drawn out but might be a little more challenging.

Curse Mechanic in OP is pretty good especially given how little instruction DS gives. Sell the 3* artefacts that you don't use and use the pink dust stuff to buy a useful artefact. For duplicates if you have no intention of using the hero and just want to get SSS then you can probably do it straight away. For free 5* heroes such as Sol if you can manage to get imprints for him save it until you need to 6* promotion him. This way you can use the duplicates and save on wolves. You can similarly save for 3* to promote into 4* or 4* into 5* but this can be tricky and take up heaps of hero inventory slots. You don't need to level your dupe before imprinting, it doesn't do anything. If this is you at a "more relaxed" play I have no idea what you kind of effort you were putting in the first time through lol. My first two ML pulls were Requiemroar and Crimson Armin. They are both very good but at the same time not exactly useful for where I was at. Pretty much just Elsons, Harudo, Doris and... That big dark dude with the axe x3 until my last attempt where I got Rikoris whom I really wanted. One of my issues currently is that while I have some great heroes the ones I've used up to this point save for Angelica whom I pushed into my team because I was pretty much forced to (I was running 4 attackers for a long time) the rest aren't up to the task of high level hunts. Sure, I have Luna but at maxed gear currently she isn't doing enough to get me through wyvern and the rest of my options are pretty sketchy at the task. Wyv11 in particular looks like I need more effectiveness to even def break the bird. My Angelica lasts about 3 wyvern turns but her heals aren't keeping up without the def breaks. :\ Maybe I've spread too wide. Angie and Luna are both at lv15 in all gear slots so I'm literally waiting for a new piece with the right stats to sub in. It is really shit. The other option here would be to bring in a tank and another hero to add more debuffs which is to say I need to raise and gear 2 units probably. I guess I'll try to raise Sol for G11.Wow, congrats! Baiken is fun. Ruele is someone I avoid in the arena haha. >.< My last spot. I think friends rotate all your friends through, I've definitely seem the same friends at least twice per day. I wouldn't rush to 6* Dingo, I'd probably wait and see who else you get and leave him at 5*. If you end up pulling a bit for Dizzy for example you might get Clarissa or something.

I ended up taking water's origin off Angie because it never actually procs due to the odd spot my hp/def is at. I'm thinking of running Clarissa but I'll have to gear her and she is only 50. :\ On the bright side I can reliably auto wyv10. I suspect I can auto 11 if Luna's S1 and Tooth rng and some combo+def breaking are favourable. So much rng.

I think both are quite strong. The first team with Clarissa, Ken and Taranor Guard is kind of amazing offense out the gate. Lots of def break and you can built them each differently, effectively. Attack, HP, Def respectively and tweak from there. Armin is a pretty great tank too. The second team. guaranteed usefulness in some later content. Angelica + Water Origin is pretty much half the requirements for wyvern. I don't think Baiken is bad even if she isn't as OP as Luna and Diene. To be honest I kind of prefer that and Baiken looks awesome. Don't forget that you will pretty soon supplement these heroes with Sol who is very strong. Maybe not quite the same as Ken who is also a natural 5* fire but they kind of do well differently and will also work well enough together. Sol doesn't destroy a mountain s l o w l y everytime he uses S3 though.

Yes priority would probably be those or a combination of good dps and healer. If you don't get a good healer then a good dps/grinder or bruiser would go a long way. You can also use friend supports to speed through some of the story content. Ultimately Angelica and Achates are 4*s but RNG is still RNG. I managed to get both later without starting with them. You can get Guilty Gear's Sol Badguy just by completing the event story missions. You probably will struggle in trying to get copies of him for memory imprints but that isn't really necessary any way imo. You need to reach account lv9 to start the event missions.

If you manage to get Sol through the exchange shop (2500 discs) I would stop there. That is probably the single most worthwhile item from the event currently and imo easier to get than the tournament most likely. Early on I did minimal event grinding, it was simply impractical and I focused on story or hunts/altars trying to powerup my heroes. I only played through the event story scenes and grabbed a few items off the shops. Even being able to grind hell difficulty doesn't make these events fun. I wouldn't stress over the events, there has been quite a lot of complaints about them from what I can see so I can only imagine it is much worse for beginners.I thought the clear reward was the artefact? But yes, once you have Sol I would invest time elsewhere to power up the team or earn whatever you need. Grinding is still the main point of the game but elsewhere doesn't feel as hollow as the event imo.

These events are just leaf sinks. That is to say, they suck. Particularly this second week's one. Yuck.Yeah this is miserable. From the looks of it you don't need to clear the tournament board at least. You just need to make a line to the end. It seems to be 50, 300, 1000 then the final vs Sol which I'm not sure how much it costs to enter. A really dumb system they have here. :( Edit. And a hard mode for the entire tournament? So we get to grind it all again and now possibly be gated if the AI team is too strong any way? Gross.

Gearing is tough. Labyrinths 1 and 2 gold chests has some gear that can go some ways. Abyss has some gear too. If you can manage any of the arena seasonal gear that can be great. If you are desperate for rings and necklaces the shop has a chest for random lv20-60. A 50-60 with good main stat is a decent start if your situation is dire. For the record though, I used supports all the way. Some of the bosses I just don't have an answer for due to my team being prominently fire based. I have as much faith in hunts/craft giving me stuff I need as I do in daily free draw giving me what I want.

I'm in the same spot. I'm trying to upgrade Angie to tank 11 and get Luna up to the point where she can handle most of the DPS. I have Karin but she is incredibly far behind on damage. I could bring in a lot of other characters but I'm most successful with Ken who can tank and def break. I'm wondering if Sol would be good for wyvern since he has damage scaling to enemy max hp and plenty of fire ticks with occasional extra turn shenanigans.

I was stuck here too. She was a huge difficulty spike for me. Her unhealable debuff made life miserable. Pretty much stuck on her every time I met her. I ended up using support, specifically Cidd. You can try some of my support characters if you like. They are as strong as some of the others here but they should help get you through tough spots. My Ravi can probably help. Let her in early in the tank position so she takes hits, builds meter for Sigret and give your other characters some room to breathe. Avoid her 3rd skill so she retains her meter for maximum damage and use soul burn to burst damage Sigret. Just need to put up with Ravi's shitty design. -_- If you have a healer with Potion Vial artefact, it can really help with the unhealable debuff. Kill the mages first, they are squishiest and their special ability applies debuffs which can turn the fight sour real quick. One of these also start the fight with meter towards their special ability already, this should be your first target. You can try my Cidd or Silk as they are stronger vs water but they are not as well geared and much squishier despite element advantage. My Angelica can probably sit well in the tank position, she heals and grants debuff immunity but offense will be on your on own. If you cant get through ping me and I can try to buff my Cidd up again or maybe swap in Luna with Sigurd or something. Def break should help a lot. I scrapped through most of the tough bosses by being carried by friend's supports, either to debuff where I can't, burst or tank. I'm slowly building up my own team to fill out various roles and gaps. Water is still my biggest weakness. :(Going partial is ok though. <3 It is always the things we enjoy the most that also frustrates us the most when we run into nuisances or questionable design. As I climb higher, or try to I lose a lot of enjoyment in PvP if only because there are so many hoops. Gearing RNG, cost of updrades in hero and gear, time commitment and all that. I have some great pvp heroes such as Crimson Armin but building her to be effective is another matter entirely and honestly building a team to do PvE content well seems a better priority since it helps with catalysts, booksmarks, gear and events. I don't know when I'll finally move on from my scrap/scrub arena teams. Biestman laughs at my full offense teams and honestly so do I. Full single unit dps team in arena >_> I feel like I'll be in Master for a long time. Anytime I can't kill something and enemy healers start to move I'm struggling.Mean while I pull Azowell from ml. :(

My memory of Baiken from GG is that she was an overall smaller character but her chest being large and on display was always noticeable. The new graphics of course do a better job at highlighting her chest and her Rev2 walk animation is... weird but overall I don't see too much difference. Her kimono is the same, she gets a jacket and I do feel she is overall larger than I remember but so is majority of the cast such as Sol, Chipp, Ky. I won't be surprised if her chest was larger than earlier though I just always thought they were big. As for her personality/archetype I'm luke warm. It is simple enough, enjoyable even. She has some agency and is not common despite the cliche history and quest for vengeance. I don't really know about the gangster sukeban stuff, I just see wandering ronin badass. I like rebellious characters and it is nice to have someone who isn't afraid dirty their hands but also not completely irresponsible and irrational. i like that they tried to make her a bit older than some of the others but she is no Cliff. I like the contrasting between a rough, street fighter appearance and precise, refined swordsmanship. The way she hunches over in her stance reminds me somewhat of wolverine.I agree 100%, well except there are still characters who are not powerful at all and dressed ridiculously. I'm not here to defend Baiken, I appreciate her despite the sexualisation and happily Criticise that aspect any time. Tekken is significantly better on the sexualisation front as a whole to the point I consider the comparison laughably one sided. GG has always strived to be a little quirky and unique in their designs. This doesn't excuse sexualisation of course, it is still very much ridiculous. My main point was how I was surprised at her animations in Epic7 being much better than I expected given Epic7's own characters are very much often gacha trash designs with tits and ass zooms and all.

I'll just talk about Baiken for a moment. I recently got her in the gacha game Epic7. She is a collaboration character from Guilty Gear. I expected her to be a lot more sexualised in Epic7 but instead she sort of remained the same as she was in Guilty Gear. This is by no means a great design considering the ridiculously open chest but aside from this I really Baiken. She is one of the few characters I think who are both a woman and feature a disability - she only has one arm (yeah, its a fighting game so her sprite is mirrored when she turns but I'll give that a pass). She has a hidden chained claw type weapon in her sleeve but otherwise she is a strong character. I guess I'm just incredibly surprised given Epic7's usual animation often features quick close ups of tits and ass/jiggles while Baiken's attack animation is surprisingly clean. Guilty Gear's characters are all a bit peculiar so I won't go into her personality.

It really just depends on what I have. Hopefully you get some good heroes and artefacts soon. Join a guild to get daily aid if you can. It also allows you to buy molagora and such from the shop each weak. Prophetic Candlestick Ancient Sheathe Daydream Joker Are some 3* artefacts to keep an eye out for. Prophetic Candlestick is great for Angelica if you run her in the front, tanking position. As she tanks hits she has a chance to decrease cool down and get her healing skills back up sooner. The other two are additional damage, the latter being most useful for enemies with heaps of HP (mostly later in the game but worth hanging onto a joker for now). This is how I feel right now

Lorina becomes an incredible single target dps hero after heavy investment. You need to specialty change her which starts when she reaches lv50. The process is also grindy include objectives like 50 urgent missions... so getting her to 50 let's you start earlier. Angelica is another good choice because she is one of the best healers, useful in a variety of content and can be used as a tank in some cases. Wolf breeding simulator is about right. I know a lot of people suggest Angelica because she is incredibly useful but I wouldn't let this keep you from playing the game. On the other hand I'm not one of the salty ones who hasn't managed to pull decent healers, including Angelica well into my second month. The bonus for Ken is that he is pretty easy to build because his attack scales with HP. You build him beefy and he just automatically starts to do well. Haste! I kind of want him but damn, not enough BM for the life of me. I also really don't need another fire 5* (except Ama, I need both Amas) I pulled another silk in daily. >8(The tip I was given in terms of equipment is that other than speed sets the priority should be stats before sets. By all means make sets but remember that if a single piece of equipment has 10% hp, 10% def is already doing more than half the work of a set bonus and this isn't even taking into consideration other stats. Characters like Ras and Angie scales off HP so HP sets and HP substats will do well on them. Resist and Effectiveness have their uses but it is usually better for substats or specific characters that rely heavily on debuffs. Angie's 3rd skill also grants immunity which lessens the need for high resist, especially early in the game. Substats on gear increases every 3 levels but only 1 chosen randomly and if you get a decent item with a few increases in % it will probably out do low level, poor substat items despite having set bonus. Taking all this into consideration, upgrade good pieces as you're doing and use filler to make up stats or set bonuses (which give stats!). Try to avoid items that are unfavourable in substats, such as non% HP and resist bonuses. The exception is speed which is very valuable as it enables you to act sooner and is generally hard to build regardless. For the record, some of my characters still use level 47 red items because it rolled something like 28% attack and I haven't yet found a suitable replacement for that slot. You will get some moonlight pulls when you beat 10-10. You should also be getting some skystones from stage objectives and side quests. Each stage also has a quest button that needs to be clicked and manually collecting rewards. :\ It is also worth getting the Breath of Orbis from the stages. It maybe difficult to fulfill all the requirements for each stage but the rewards are quite nice if you manage it. Knowing what your friend's heroes are capable of helps here I guess. My Ravi for instance should be able to carry in most situations, you really just spam S1 and she lifesteals + builds meter. Using S3 is aoe+stun but costs meter which lowers her dps so more of a emergency situation. It is hard to say whether GG characters are worth pulling for if you don't have enough for guarantee but keep in mind that generally limited banners are pretty OP and even if you don't get the limited character you may pull someone else useful. You might also get a limited character on 1st pull. Such is gacha life. Characters will come over time though. I did poorly on my 30 list and ended up with Silk only to find out she is freely available to recruit later. I eventually pulled a Ravi who has been carrying me since and I have many other characters I got along the way. I am late to the Angelica party and am building her up now.

What are your other characters? Leveling up isn't too difficult, it comes over time or feed them penguins. Raising their level cap takes much longer, particularly 6*. Equipment will also go a long way. At minimum I would try to do the dailies, it is found under reputation from the main menu. Doing the dailies should also help you finish one of the current events. From the lobby in the upper right scroll the banners until you see the Water Gun event and click on it. This should help with some free items. You need to enhance any item once (doesn't even need to level up) to finish the remaining objective for this event and it also refreshes daily. In story mode you can use friends to help push through hard missions. Try to clear all the objectives as they add up and give nice rewards allowing you to pull more heroes. If you feel like you need to grind, consider grinding altars for runes (to awaken characters) or finishing up side branches in each region of the story for completion rewards. Try to push up in Abyss. Good gear in there. Once you hit your limit just purify every day for free rewards until you feel like giving it another attempt. Dungeons are a bit of a slog to get through but also have some great rewards. If you want to use a guide for the rewards someone linked me this earlier. Not in English but has maps which should be pretty easy to understand once you give them a shot. If this is too early don't worry about it for now. Most consider the items from the first two dungeons worth aiming for. Beyond that is a bit more annoying so YMMV on the worth.I think I like Diene but since I don't have her and seeing her S3 constantly in arena or GW is generally just drawing the fight out into a slog. It really brings it down for me. Kayron looks awesome and I somewhat regret not rolling a bit more for Cermia. I kind of like Tenebria's look but prefer her ML's S3.Charles' looks really nice too. I like too many of them. -_- I'm not even mad when I get team wiped by ML Ama because the meteor fall looks awesome lol.Yeah I yield if things are looking grim to save my characters where possible. I also tend to stack on side if I don't feel confident. My teams are mostly single target dps without much speed nor defense so I need to pick my fights really carefully. Then again I guess most people need to any way.

Thread Epic Seven (Mobile/Mobage) |OT| 1.25% better than Dragalia Lost's Rates!
I'm not sure if those who aren't attacking are because they feel there is no one they can defeat. What happens if you fight but lost all 6 rounds? Do you still get havoc?I didn't realise C Lorina is so strong. I noticed she needs a few attacks for her passive to build up but I guess once that gets going she will be pushing out some great damage. My issue at the moment is that I don't want to grind all those dark runes. >.< I do like C Lorina's S3 more than Luna's. What are everyone's favourite S3s?

Thread Anyone else (now or then) feel particularly frightened by being eaten in games?
I've thankfully never fallen into their mouths. I mostly projectile or fight them with a long sharp stick. I'll keep this in mind next time I replay though, maybe it will make these things less unsettling.
