Okay. Not sure why they rushed so much during S2 if the ending was only 1 season away. They could have easily spent 5 seasons covering this material without it feeling stale.

That looks amazing! I will try to fish around for the ingredients and make it in the near future!Oh that sounds so good!I like to drink vinegar so I think I would very much like octopus in vinegar as well!I only left it in the pan long enough to warm it through because I assumed it was already cooked, being canned and all, so you will be relieved to know that there was very little chance of it turning rubbery! I never got to try fig jam. I bet it's just like the inside of Fig Newtons!I will! What an attractive looking specimen. Did you make that yourself? What a neat can! Hello octopus, will you be my brother? :DI firmly believe this!asdf'wetadf Flousn qwertyag'ag'adg !I was going to cook the can of octopus last week but I was hungry for sardines so that's what I ate instead! I just might - I want to attempt some of the other recipes suggested here in this very thread! The only kind of steak I've ever eaten was hamburger steak but from what I understand, it is merely imitation steak!

Thread Should I buy the can of octopus? (Update: Bought can of octopus) (Update 2: Can opened)
I have tasted the octopus meat! The first thing that struck me was the texture - it was very meaty and not rubbery or soft at all! I expected rubbery due to my calamitous affair with the breaded calamari rings that fateful day, but this felt like I was eating what I image steak to be like. The taste was mellow and not particularly vibrant. I tasted mainly the spices (ground Thai chili peppers being my spice of choice for this particular excursion) and only detected a hint of seafood flavor in there. I guess if I had to say, I would tell you that it tasted like octopus! There is really no other way to describe it. It certainly didn't taste like any fish I ever had before!

Thread Should I buy the can of octopus? (Update: Bought can of octopus) (Update 2: Can opened)
I have finally mustered up the courage to open the can of octopus! My first impression is unfortunately one of disappointment. It turns out that the picture on the box was a fabrication - they alluded to the can having at least 50% octopus tentacles inside but as you can plainly see, there isn't a single one! The can is entirely comprised of nondescript chunks of octopus meat. This isn't what I was promised. Anyway, I will now describe the smell for you: mildly pungent seafood smell, not dissimilar to canned sardines! (a treat when paired with a slice of avocado and some lemon juice) The canned octopus smell isn't as strong as the canned sardine smell, however. One aspect that the packaging relayed beautifully: the color of the canned octopus! It is indeed that purple in real life. Stunning.

I think it's safe to say that the rumor of him scrapping the (almost) entirely written The Winds of Winter in 2015 and starting over from scratch in 2018 was true. Because with the pages that were pulled from A Dance with Dragons and the "hundreds and hundreds" of pages he wrote in 2020, there shouldn't still be hundreds of pages left to write unless something catastrophic happened.

(SPAM isn't found there to my knowledge!)These ones are coated in an oil. I wonder which is more common, do you think?I've never been to (or even seen) a fish market before but I would very much like to explore one someday!

Thread Should I buy the can of octopus?
Once upon a dream I was perusing an isle at Safeway for some SPAM when I chanced upon a can of octopus! (it was situated right near the SPAM, which is really what I was after, you see) I was surprised to find this treasure but I reasoned that people are canning everything these days so it really wasn't all that unusual after all. The packaging was very attractive, decorated with little red tentacles on the front, but my last incursion with Cephalopoda (frozen breaded calamari, to be specific!) left me despondent. In the end I walked away empty handed (to my dismay, they were also out of SPAM. I chalked it up to COVID-19 related food rationing but also cautioned myself against making a definitive assumption one way or the other). On the way home, I kicked myself for not taking the plunge and ever since then, my mind has been consumed by this can of octopus! What must the flavor be like? Is it rubbery or soft? How many tentacles are in each can? I googled all of these questions but found no answers. So I'm thinking that I should buy this can of octopus to find out for myself! But I have an eerie feeling so I thought I would ask for feedback.

lol @ him making up an excuse as for why the series stared out slowly, as though it was some sort of anomaly. Some of the reviews for DD S3 (the only N-MCU series I'm still watching) say that it starts slowly and that's a show in its third season...

If the models are from timeless IPs that will still be relevant to your kids when they're older, then I say keep a few! They're more likely to cherish a couple toys than a warehouse full, so maybe try to limit what you pass on to them? I wouldn't say that their Top 10 means nothing, but I also don't think their US Top 10, which I believe is all US subscribers can view, paints the full picture. 'Away' might have done well enough in the US, but could have bombed most everywhere else. Given its presumed limited appeal on the global stage, they probably couldn't justify the cost to keep it around just for US audiences. International markets are absolutely huge for Netflix and going forward they'll probably dictate most of what sticks around long term barring the rare US centric phenom (like if Stranger Things hit the zeitgeist in the US but didn't do well outside the US, I'd expect Netflix to keep it around anyway).

If that reddit post on the last page is to be believed and he's really only getting $85 million for 25 hours, then that's actually quite low budget all things considered, so it might not be as bad an investment as Dark Crystal or Too Old to Die Young were.

I started Rebels! I liked the first two episodes well enough that I decided to just watch the whole thing without skipping any episodes. I'm honestly enjoying it way more than Clone Wars - I think because the cast is the same every episode so you build up more of a bond with them. (Zeb is the best, Chopper is an asshole, Hera had a French accent for a minute???, Rex is dad, Kanan and Sabine are fine, Ezra thankfully isn't as douchey as he looks!) I just finished S2 and whew that finale! :O Oh, is she still alive? I figured they just executed her off screen. What do we know about the Bad Batch spin off? Thread I want to watch The Clone Wars but I don't want to watch the bad episodes, what do I do.
I finished the series last night~ The show definitely improved as it went on, though not to the degree that I fully understand the rabidity of the fanbase. It goes to some dark places, but it's still very much a kid's show ("the movies are for kids too" blahblah) with character development and plotting nowhere near as strong as I'd have liked. Like, take the final arc of S5 Anakin's turn in RotS also just doesn't mesh with his portrayal in Clone Wars (even factoring in the Utapau arc where he does some questionable things). In the final arc, Clone Wars Anakin goes off screen for 3 episodes and then he's suddenly Darth Vader at the end. I thought they'd have better merged the two Anakins (show and movies) by the end, but it was still super jarring. And the fact that Anyway, I don't want to seem too down on the show, as I did enjoy quite a bit of it. My favorite arcs were easily the ones involving the clone troopers - Cadets, Kamino, Umbara, Clone Conspiracy, and Bad Batch. I skipped over a lot of the stuff people said was bad (most of the Jar-Jar and Droid arcs) so I'd say my least favorite arcs were the ones involving Padme. Special shoutout goes to Gungi and Byph - where's their spin off. 7 = 5 > 4 > 6> 2 > 3 > 1

It will air early next year on AMC, but linear is becoming less and less relevant, so it makes sense that they'd try to shift their audience toward streaming. Season 2 probably won't premiere months early on AMC+ - it'll most likely just go up a couple days early on AMC+ like they do with their other shows (Walking Dead World Beyond airs this Sunday but the premiere was released today on AMC+, Soulmates airs this Monday but the premiere is up on AMC+, etc)

THR also mentioned that because it's a Sony TV show, "Showtime had to pay a licensing fee. That means the show would have been increasingly expensive to produce after factoring in rising costs to produce the series when factoring in added time and safety precautions stemming from filming during a global pandemic. The cast, sources say, was already paid for season two. " Of the shows you listed, it looks like City on a Hill is the only one (?) that doesn't have some kind of production deal with Showtime Networks/CBS TV (outside of Back to Life, which is a BBC show they're just airing in the US). And City on a Hill was much more popular than Central Florida. I do agree that they have a dwindling number of shows though - and a lot of their recent and upcoming ones seem to be miniseries. It could be that ViacomCBS is funneling most of their $$$ towards beefing up Paramount+ and will turn Showtime into more of a boutique service going forward.

The original showrunner left and was replaced by two writers from ABC's Once Upon a Time - they killed off/sidelined most of the main cast and re-centered the show around Morgan from The Walking Dead (who sucks even worse on Fear than he did on TWD). Their vision for the show was very different from the original in terms of theme and tone and over the course of their two seasons, have proven to be poor showrunners (they have written some of the best stand alone episodes of either series though and some of their original characters are great - they just suck at, well, everything else).

The show became like a worse, slower, more dull version of S4.B. Almost every character in the sprawling cast had their personality erased and were given slight variations of Morgan's personality - literally everyone was preaching his loser "the power of friendship will save us all!" shit all season long. The setup for the first half of the season was incomprehensible and there were no consequences to anything that happened. The second half of the season had the gang spend each episode doing extremely stupid things, risking their lives to save the new rando of the week. They teased an ominous new villain all season long but all he did was threaten the good guys and we never even learned what his goals were until after he was killed. You haven't known 'meandering' until you've seen FtWD S5. I think it and GoT are apples and oranges, but at least GoT had spectacle going for it.

I don't know how it would work if it wasn't linked like that - Jude Law was kept there because he was their chosen one or whatever - what would be their reason for keeping Naomie Harris? This is an inversion of that, where they don't want her there and she's the one pushing to stay, which I think is pretty neat. It also gives her more agency, where she's (PRESUMABLY) not just being terrorized for 3 episodes - a good way of making the back half feel distinct from the first half.

The Golden Age of HBO is long past but that sentiment still remains, and is perhaps stronger than ever despite the fact that HBO's Dark Age lasted longer than its golden age ever did. I think it's because most people don't follow TV that closely so when HBO does something big they're like "oh yeah, HBO did __ too! they're sooo good" even if that was like 6 years ago. To their credit, HBO's marketing has been very effective at and aggressive about getting people to think they have a consistent brand when their premium peers haven't devoted nearly as much time and effort into doing the same. Most networks only have a couple shows in their entire history that ever hit all 3 of those metrics - for Showtime though Homeland 100% was that show for like 2 solid years. Dexter also fit the bill, at least for the first few seasons. In terms of scripted, HBO itself has only had a handful (The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Game of Thrones, True Detective S1, and maybe Watchmen)

That was pretty decent. The plot didn't entirely go in the way that I thought it would, so that's cool. Characters all seem fairly likable so far (this hawt soldier gay ) and I like that they have a specific destination in mind that they can work towards - it should prevent future episodes from feeling too aimless. Vogt-Roberts was initially signed on to direct the pilot but "the production went in a different direction" so Magnus Martens was brought on to direct instead. It's wasn't poorly directed or anything, but there was also nothing about it that really stood out to me. It just looked like a standard episode of TV.

It's really good imo. Also, a lot of people were freaking out about AMC censoring Gangs of London for cable and this sort of bypasses that. I'm sure the uncensored version will stream even if it ends up getting cut down a bit for the linear channel.

I figured they were planning to do something like this since TWD finale, TWD: World Beyond, FtWD, Soulmates, Gangs of London, and The Salisbury Poisonings are all launching on the service this week. That's a big push, and it retroactively makes some of AMCs odder scheduling decisions this year make a lot more sense.

Thread The 100 S7:The Final Season [Weds 8/7c on The CW] |OT| Your fight is over Clarke, we really are the last of the 100. May we meet again.
I don't agree with that assessment - S5 left us with a glimmer of hope, which was more than enough. We didn't need the show to tell us "and in the end they actually did triumph over eons of human nature to achieve total piece and harmony for all of humanity, forever". It's a very simplistic and naive way to end a show with such complicated characters and situations. This ending is predicated on a premise of pure fantasy though - that humanity could (or would) ever just decide one day to achieve nirvana because "haven't we had enough of this cycle of violence guys". The City of Light storyline was interesting because it showed us a more honest (and maybe a little more true to sci fi) scenario - that the only way for humanity to "transcend" is for us to give up what makes us human, to relinquish ourselves over to a super powerful AI and let it change who and what we fundamentally are. And that maybe it's better to hang on to our humanity and deal with all that that entails than it is to live in a construct.I do agree that it worked better than the dreadful Lost finale, but it was still a little too spiritual and fantastical for what I've come to expect from The 100.

The idea of humanity transcending to a higher plane - leaving all the hardships and complexities of life behind to live happily ever after in magic land - is naive, unsatisfying, and betrays the original spirit of the show Plus, the whole "We are all Wonkru" thing was already done in S5

Thread The 100 S7:The Final Season [Weds 8/7c on The CW] |OT| Your fight is over Clarke, we really are the last of the 100. May we meet again.
I don't know about that finale... hm I strongly dislike "and they all went to heaven and lived happily ever after!" type endings. They always ring false to me and seem like cop outs. Couple that with the weird "their consciousnesses joined together and their bodies became light statues" and I'm just like...isn't this basically the show saying "the City of Light was good actually"? Maybe I'm misremembering but I thought we decided that having everyone join a hive mind was bad all the way back in S3? An advanced race of all powerful judge-aliens being introduced in the last part of the final season, when the show had been pretty metaphysics free up to that point, felt at odds with what the show was for the first 6 years. Even the stuff with the time travel and whatnot felt like it was from a completely different show (I initially liked that, but I think the writers ultimately failed to make it feel of a piece with the previously established mythology of the show). So Bellamy right after all! Okay, that makes his turn a little more believable. Still complete nonsense to do him like that though. Indra finally killed Sheidheda at least. Not letting Clarke transcend was funny and fitting, but then having ALL of her remaining friends come back to spend the rest of their days with her felt corny and out of character for the show. Like, Murphy would rather spend a few days in the mind drive and die with Emori than live the rest of his life without her, and yet he decides to leave her consciousness in the transcended realm anyway so he can be with Clarke and friends on Sanctum? What? Like, if it was just Octavia that came back, then I could maybe buy it, but everyone (sans Maddie)? ~ The ending to S5 was perfect and now that I know the ending to S7, I would have much preferred if the show had ended there. These past two seasons had some cool moments but ultimately felt like an exercise in trying to ring every last drop out of a show that was successful instead of just letting it end when the story came to its natural conclusion. Also, between the rushed and incongruent final season, the unearned ending, the Bellamy fiasco, "Trigedasleng was invented by a child", Trikru existing before the apocalypse, and just the overall concept of creating a prequel to fill in blanks that don't need filled in, I'm actively hoping the spin off doesn't get picked up.

I don't even have a full HD TV (still rockin 720p) so I don't really care about 4K or super graphical fidelity. The one big thing about the PS4 gen (and previous gens obv) that bothered me is the loading times and that's set to be all but taken care of with the PS5. The prospect of being able to just jump into a game (near) instantly, respawn instantly, move to a new area instantly, etc. is tremendously exciting. I remember at the end of the PS3 gen I was like "I don't care if PS4 games look exactly like this, as long as they get rid of loading it'll be a good gen" and now it'shappeningisn'tit.gif
