If you’re talking about youth as in someone not at college then I could sort of understand but then they’re facing the same issues a normal working adult would face. Voter suppression is a serious and major issue facing many low income communities where parents are working and/or can’t get transportation or time to go out and vote. Not to mention just registering or lacking the proper IDs.
Voter suppression is not a major issue on a college campus where kids can walk up and vote days in advance and are constantly hassled for weeks by volunteers on campus to vote in between college classes. The kids also have access to buses that can take them to other voting sites if they live off campus.

Yea this looks like trash. The best part of the early books is that Artemis is a total asshole and pretty much a villain in the making. I mean at this point you probably have an 800+ year old Yoda on the Jedi Council. This is the lamest era they could have tackled outside of maybe the immediate preceding years to TPM.
He wasn't disillusioned with the Jedi Order like Luke was, sure. I don't see how you can look at Obi-Wan in TROS and ANH and say how the climax in TROS didn't impact him in terms of his attitude. Even just the notion of just dumping it on Luke showed how his perspective had changed compared to confronting Anakin on Mustafar.
Also do you seriously believe that if Obi-Wan wanted to train Luke that Lars, a moisture farmer, could have stopped him?
Both of them are fairly disillusion/broken over personal failures and ANH/TLJ is about them finding the spark to get over their failures and fight back.

On that note besides just the vague suggestion of becoming a better programmer, what can you do to buff up your resume?
None of the ones you listed were in any way impressive as a set piece. They were funny or fun such as Renner and Cruise catching the train but not visually striking. McQuarrie’s movies aren’t as fun as Bird’s but the set pieces are more designed to impress.
The Kremlin one for example has the team using a balloon to drop a device that transfers data to Russian computers then simply walk downstairs where they use the AR tracking device and a directed sound replicator to enter the archives. Messing with the guard downstairs is funny but in no way is it demanding or taxing on a physical level.
Absolutely. The only good one in the entire movie is the Burj sequence and it’s fairly short and not that elaborate. Does anyone remember anything about the Kremlin intrusion or the car parking garage in India? The set pieces in the movie are really lame in comparison to this one.
The past movies, and especially the ones by McQuarrie, point out how the IMF and Hunt’s success is a good chunk due to luck. One of the main themes in MI5 is that Hunt is by nature a gambler and eventually his luck will run out (it didn’t).
Everybody is praising the action sequences but what impressed me the most was how sharp the sound direction was from the mixing to matching the OST to specific scenes in the movie, such as the beats corresponding to the CIA director's steps in her intro. Absolutely crisp.
Because pop culture peaked in the 80s. I don’t know how you can argue otherwise. Much of the music, movies, and just overall style hasn’t been topped since. Lots of the works that came out then are still considered the best of their genre/type.

ST09 is probably Abrams' best film.
A couple of months ago I would have said Into Darkness was his worst film but now I'm not so sure. STID is such an utterly stupid film but it is more cohesive than RoS and actually has a larger theme about militarization in response to terrorism.

A lot of the issues stem from these semi-fixed release dates that Lucasfilm is extremely resistant on budging from. As much as I want to blame Kennedy, there could also been demands from Iger on this. I’ve seen little to think that she’s some sort of visionary worthy of keeping on. Star Wars in the hands of someone who wasn’t Lucas was going to generate an insane amount of money just due to it being a premier scifi franchise and there not being a SW movie for X number of years.
A lot of the issues post-TFA fall on either Iger or her such as the director version of musical chairs and the insane deadlines. I think Solo for example would have done better if it had you know, been a great movie. The infighting between Kasdan/KK and Lord & Miller didn’t help anything. I don’t think it would have generated Rogue One numbers persay but definitely better.

I guess my feeling with Luke and the lightsaber thing was that in TLJ Luke changed his mind but the film wasn't outright stating that his behavior and attitude was wrong, especially considering he makes numerous valid points. I guess that was the intention but the early comedy screws up some of that messaging, that and I don't think Rey did a good enough job countering some of that cynicism. Anyway though, his scene in RoS does flow well from his state of mind in TLJ.
ThreadStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker |OT| Revenge of a Sith (SPOILERS NOW OPEN)

That interview with JJ was pretty enlightening. His answer to the lightsaber thing is good. It does make me feel stronger about how Rian made a mistake making that part into a joke though. ThreadThe Rise of Skywalker Review Thread: The Sheev Saga Comes to a Close [No Spoilers] (Rottenwatch: 58%; 8% away from Order 66) [SEE STAFF POST]
There’s ways of going about it and parts of TLJ felt like they were directly calling out Abrams for trying to adhere to the OT. I don’t know how else you can view how Rian treated Snoke. Rian thought Snoke was a stupid Emperor replacement and disregarded Snoke rightfully as the trash he is.
ThreadThe Rise of Skywalker Review Thread: The Sheev Saga Comes to a Close [No Spoilers] (Rottenwatch: 58%; 8% away from Order 66) [SEE STAFF POST]
That’s a valid interpretation to an extent. Part of the issue is partially how flippant Rian is about it. Snoke calling out Kylo’s mask for example is another one in that it’s clear Rian thinks something from TFA is stupid and will just directly call it out as such. If I was JJ, I would probably have been low key pissed when watching TLJ. Now again, I don’t blame Rian for any of it as JJ deserved it for his mystery box garbage in TFA.
Rian and JJ view Star Wars almost in a fundamentally different way, which is fine in theory. The problem is Kennedy had them following up each other.
ThreadThe Rise of Skywalker Review Thread: The Sheev Saga Comes to a Close [No Spoilers] (Rottenwatch: 58%; 8% away from Order 66) [SEE STAFF POST]
A lot of things that JJ set to be important like Rey’s parents or Luke receiving the lightsaber, Rian thought was trash and threw that stuff in the bin. I think that was the right call on Rian’s part. The problem is that Kennedy went back to JJ which makes me think that Kennedy either got blowback about TLJ from someone or the themes went over her head or whatever. In any case, picking JJ to pick up after TLJ seems to have been the absolutely wrong call as why would JJ play along with a movie that so strongly disagrees with what JJ feels SW is?
ThreadThe Rise of Skywalker (2019) social media impressions
It’s generally assumed to be about a year between ESB and RotJ. Yea it’s fairly quick but that’s at least some time. Rey’s abilities from TFA to TLJ are consistent, I find the problem more so about how quick her progression is in TFA. Sounds like the novels explained that though in a fairly convincing way with the mindmeld in the torture scene caused her to learn a lot of Kylo’s stuff.
ThreadThe Rise of Skywalker (2019) social media impressions
For all of my complaints/issues with RotJ, it has some of the best and THE best scene of the franchise. I will argue to the death that Luke/Vader’s confrontation on the Death Star II was the best moment of the franchise.
ThreadThe Rise of Skywalker (2019) social media impressions
ESB ended with Vader styling on Luke with minimal effort. Then there’s a significant time skip after which Luke largely seems to be competent. TFA took place in like a week. TFA and TLJ taking place in a 2 week time span has always felt ridiculous to me.

ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
If there are singular people within the Story Group overseeing all three films of the ST then I'm not sure they're doing a good job as we've heard multiple stories of the directors doing whatever they want and little about oversight apart from Kennedy and Kasdan, primarily in relation to Solo.
ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
That was my point in that Trevorrow was conflicting with Kennedy, not the Story Group. The Story Group is virtually never mentioned in any of these directorial conflicts. Lord and Miller were pissing off Kennedy and Kasdan directly, the Story Group wasn't mentioned at all in any of those articles talking about how Solo was a dumpster fire.
ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
That wasn't the intention but it should have been. Either that or have a singular writer working on all 3. I mean Treverrow got the boot because his stuff was different in a third direction. The only film trilogy in history that I think works/is considered great with different directors helming each movie was SW and that's largely because Lucas was controlling things both in a positive and negative way.
ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
In theory that's what the Story Group should be however having a council full of people isn't the same as a singular person overseeing it all. I'm also not sure how much oversight that Story Group is providing:
In addition, I'm not sure how many members of the Story Group are actually writers/authors and not just general producers.
ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
I mean by all accounts, Trevorrowwas fired because he was having disagreements with Kennedy in regards to the script, not the Story Group. Some of this is impossible to know without working at Lucasfilm and seeing how much control/freedom there is in terms of individual stories and who talks to who but I'm not exactly convinced that the Story Group has much serious input/say on a lot of these higher level topics.A better case would be examining individual franchises inside Nintendo and there are definitely singular people that oversee certain franchises. The whole point of this discussion/argument is whether the Story Group is a good replacement for a person like Lucas and I haven't seen much evidence stating that they are. There were a ton of stories of Lucas possibly micromanaging everything SW back in the day. I'm not seeing a lot stating something similar for the Story Group currently.
ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
I would probably need to see a better example for me to feel their existence is justified as a substitute for someone like Lucas overseeing everything. So a Story Group member worked on the first two movies of the ST and not the final? Or he didn't work on any of the ST in which case how involved are the Story Group in overseeing the ST?
ThreadJJ Abrams on his decision not to do Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX, and then being asked to do IX after all
I never once claimed that there should be a strict storyline that has to be adhered to. Saying there should be consistent oversight is significantly different than saying there has to be multiple scripts in advance that the director has to adhere to. Whether that oversight is in the form of a basic outline for the trilogy or just having identical people in place, I don't think it particularly matters.
Of course you can get situations where the quality/tone differs even from the same person, the Godfather trilogy with Francis Ford Coppola for example, however the track record in regards to trilogies is historically better when there's a singular vision overlooking all of the movies.

Horror-lite or whatever that transitions more into a traditional Ghostbusters movie. Even if it’s a redux of Stranger Things, I’m still glad they’re trying something new with the franchise than just simply bringing a bunch of old people on screen.
ThreadGhostbusters: Afterlife Trailer (written and directed by Jason Reitman)
The original cast is old as dirt and the original movies largely worked because of the actors in it. Makes zero sense to go for an identical tone of the original movies when there would be zero chance of even coming close.
Going for something different while using the original movies as a springboard is a much better idea. The original movie also had tinges of horror so I like that they’re leaning more into that with this.
ThreadIt's wild how many 2000s-era edgy/emo bands were just adults singing about self-harm and teenage angst
The main band of the 2000s was probably Linkin Park and Chester Bennington was 24 when Hybrid Theory came out in 2000. He obviously suffered through depression for his entire life. I see little reason why he couldn't relate to a 16 year old going through something similar.
The art style in this chapter was significantly different. I wonder if a different/new assistant worked on it.
Either that or Horikoshi is drawing the characters older and a more ‘serious’ fashion which is intriguing.
ThreadThe Season Finale of DEATH BATTLE S6 is All-Might (My Hero Academia Series) vs Might Guy (Naruto Series)
Yea that’s true. The closest we saw to Prime All Might was in the intro in the movie and even that wasn’t peak All Might. People forget that all the feats in the manga/anime are him in a super weakened state. When he fought that noumu he said it took him 300 punches but in his prime it would have taken 5 punches. That’s an insane decline, that means he was around 60 times stronger in his peak.
A guy who ran up the side of a super tall skyscraper in under 30 seconds is only at best 2% of his normal strength. Actually he might even be weaker than 2% at that point as he’s declined over the course of the series.
I wish people would stop showing gifs of the throne room fight from TLJ, it makes me realize how awful it's choreographed and executed. Some of that is worse than all the jokes made about the prequel lightsaber duels.
TLJ has way higher highs but also way lower lows. I also think TFA is better constructed as a film even if it's missing the mysticism/spirtuality of Star Wars.
I don't know. They're both super flawed films but in different ways.

ThreadLTTP: Nightmare On Elm Street Series - A funhouse of horror and interesting concepts, poorly executed (AKA: This franchise is trash)
I recently did something similar and watched all of them in the span of a couple of weeks. 1 and 3 are good, I think 3 is probably better than 1. It's an interesting franchise as each movie brings something new or of value to the franchise and has a theme. Now that is not to say that they're decent films but they do have themes. Movies 5 and 6 are super bad though. You're going to be in for a rough time as you get into the later films.
Well I imagine she'll help them to an extent but she obviously isn't going to be bailing them out or letting them double dip. New management so to speak. I don't think though she's going to let them out to dry hence the line from the detective and the mug at the end.

We, African Americans, don’t have to worry about being ostracized or killed by our own family either.
The struggles are obviously different but that doesn’t mean there aren’t points of similarity as well though. People focus too much on the differences and not what can be used to bring us together.
The movie pretty much outright says it with the detective saying he wouldn’t do it if it was him but he knows she’ll do something different and the final shot with, “My house, my rules”.

ThreadESPN: NBA strongly considering “drastic” changes to regular and post-season format
Load Management. Players were already approaching the regular season as a joke but recent years have shown the regular season to be to the success of a team. Players would take being an 8 seed if it meant they can have additional games off.
A huge overall absolutely needs to be done where either regular season performance has a bigger impact on the post season or they shorten the regular season.
It’s worth reiterating how 80% of the Cliff twist hangs on Cliff not using his son’s actual name throughout the game and just continually refers to him as BB instead of his already named child.
Also why was Amelie supporting Cliff attempting to kill Sam (powering Cliff via the dolls and all)? She needed Sam to complete the chiral network.
The more I think about this story, the more it falls apart logically.
In Cliff’s death monologue, seems like BB was already named. The last cutscene was mostly of Sam’s memories and not actually with Cliff (I think???) and there Cliff explains Sam’s name and all.
Another reveal that is awkwardly timed is the reveal that Sam was shot as a baby and brought back by Amelie. That whole sequence is just shuffled around and any sort of emotional or shock impact is lost.
Well Amelie and Bridges as an entity weren’t seeing eye to eye. She was claiming the chiral network would help everyone, which was the initial plan, but then decided to use it to bring about the Last Stranding. I’m not sure if her decision to cause the Last Stranding was before or after her capture by Higgs. Either way seems like Higgs could have just put the remaining locations on to the chiral network for her unless the idea was they needed someone to con the different locations and Sam was the unsuspecting peddler while Higgs was too well known.
Also if Amelie is in control, why the whole elaborate kidnapping stuff in Edge Knot City? At that point Sam’s purpose had been fulfilled and wasn’t needed any longer. Why do this whole kidnapping business to the beach? Also why did Amelie push Sam out of Bridget/Amelie’s beach?
So let’s delve a bit into Amelie/Bridget. So Amelie’s plan was to pretend to be kidnapped by Higgs as a way to force Sam to connect the chiral network and quicken the extinction event? Is there a reason why she just didn’t do it herself or simply have Higgs do it? Or why Higgs was trying to control her at the end despite the two having a similar goal in mind?
Or is this a case of Amelie/Bridget initially not wanting an extinction before the initial Death Stranding, then realized extinction will happen anyway and so repurposes the chiral network to hasten humanity’s death and works with Higgs, then decides no and wants Sam to stop her, then finally decided she gives up and will let Sam decide?
I absolutely hate Sam’s beach sequence. It’s an overly long exposition dump that serves to undercut Amelie’s beach sequence, both emotionally and logically.
Just give me a quick cutscene over whatever the fuck that was supposed to be.
Speaking of characters, Mama and Lockne got the Gundam 00 Lockon treatment where Lockne serves solely as a Mama stand-in so Kojima can kill Mama off and have no story consequences.
The ordering of the reveals near the end makes little to no sense. Like the Cliff reveal would have worked better after the Vietnam scene as that’s really the last time you interact with Cliff.
I wondered if Kojima would be crazy enough to have John’s last name be McClane and thought, “Naw that’s too stupid and on the nose even for Kojima”.
lol
Everything involving Amelie is a complete mess and feels like a victim of rewrites. Almost none of the story involving her is consistent. She or the game contradicts her like every five minutes near the end. What's crazy about this is right after the inauguration Sam then decides to say he's a loner again. He flips character for that speech then flips back at the end.

ThreadA long long time ago, "challenge" was a integral part of game reviews...
I think it depends on how a game is hard and not just that it is. I remember that reviewers loved F.E.A.R. for example because of the AI that would do all this flanking. Hell, Sekiro came out earlier this year.
Now if you’re making a game difficult by just bumping up health bars and increasing enemy damage then it comes as cheap and frustrating in a boring and bland way.
ThreadAmazon will challenge Pentagon’s award of $10 billion JEDI contract to Microsoft, ‘unmistakable bias’ as one of its concerns in the award
It’s clear that some people in here have no clue what they’re talking about in terms of government bidding. Government bids are rigid and formal. This is likely going to be a very hard case for Amazon to win.
The game taking bits and pieces of other people’s zipline networks is utterly frustrating. Largely because the mountain areas are such a slog and you spend so much time in them. At certain points it feels almost necessary without losing your mind to the tedium of it all.
ThreadDEATH STRANDING (a Hideo Kojima game) update 1.05 is out now, weighs 1 GB, adds performance improvements
We don’t need a thread for every patch a game gets, especially one with so minimal patch notes.
Please direct further conversation regarding this game to the OT:
That’s the thing though, the game has a lot of other components other than just purely the traversal mechanics. It’s much more of a traditional video game than people, both in being criticism and praise, are giving it credit as.
I can forgive the combat being bad. What bothers me is the stealth mechanics being trash. In a game that focuses so heavily on not killing, the stealth component should be way better than it is.
It does get ridiculous when virtually every time an insert song kicks in, it’s Low Roar again. Someone from their publishing/marketing team was a genius.
I feel like I’ve heard a full album, if not more, from them.
I think my problem with a number of reviews is that they focused on the wrong things to criticize. There are absolutely tons of issues with the game such as the lackluster combat, poor stealth mechanics, in-game cutscenes, and etcetera but there was too much of a focus on the traversal mechanics and pacing.
I really hate how Kojima/Sony put the Chapter 3 restriction on the reviews as there’s a lot to talk and analyze past that and reviewers focused too much on the earlier stuff as a result.
Too bad pretty much nobody knows how to properly use ziplines. I’ve seen ziplines that are not connected to anything, go nowhere, and have drop off positions that make you crash even when holding L2+R2.
Chapter 6 is way worse. One multiple mission sequence is go up near the peak, go down, go up near the peak, go down to the base, then go all the way up to the peak.
Oh and there are scripted weather factors that make that traversal even slower and more painful.
Absolute nonsense and with the restrictions in Chapter 6, it’s just infuriating.
Harsh but fair. I'm at the start of Chapter 7 and if this blurb Deadman says about himself is true (and that's the whole reasoning for his name) then yikes. Parts of this game do not feel well written at all.
I admittedly haven't really been spamming likes, just doing one or so as it's hard to do at times when you're travelling.
I have been using strand contracts and whatnot though.Yea, I'm somewhat in the same boat. The 'like' algorithm or whatever seems a bit screwy.
I agree with all of this except for the fact that the stealth in this is significantly worse than MGSV. You have less stealth options and enemies can see you a mile away. The stealth component doesn't feel as fleshed out as it should. The game really is more MGS than I think people are expecting.
Combat definitely is a big focus of the game. Chapter 3 is not all of the game. They haven't even introduced all the game mechanics yet.
They give you weapons galore up through Chapter 5. Post Chapter 3 is closer to a Metal Gear game. Honestly the game is a little bit misleading in that way.
Yea that whole thing was kind of hilarious. Someone clearly fucked up as it's obvious what is from the item description but then you have the cutscene later where Sam doesn't know what it is. That's just a blatant screw up on Kojima's part.
It screws up the surprise of the later cutscene and is jarring because you're supposed to rest and be separated from it, the exact opposite of what the text says not to do.
It's annoying though when you have to do it upwards 4-5 times. Either you should be able to just press a single button to skip it, have a menu option to automatically skip this stuff, or when you skip a cutscene it skips all those stupid secondary ones.Multiple trips and a truck.
The whole concept is nonsense. I really wouldnt delve into it more besides just knowing that earlier statement. I have a hunch it ties into a couple of other characters though. You can’t really do that past a certain point so the question the other poster has is valid. I’m trying to find some sort of tactic myself.
Honestly BTs aren't a big deal outside of that stupid scanner booting up animation where the game just halts for like 20 seconds. The game gives you so many weapons to counter them that sneaking past BTs are pretty trivialized. Well except for Chapter 6. lol
I’m livid. People are not doing shit in my world. I’m almost single handedly paving these damn roads. I’m out for 7 hours and people haven’t done a lick.
I’m in the same boat. I’m wondering if the game caps your support because it feels like with 100 people this should be long done. Instead I’m building almost the entire path.
Lea Seydoux is really terrible in this game. She’s super stilted in comparison to everybody else.
Baker on the other hand was having his best life when he was working on this.
This game is going to have to explain A LOT later on as right now (start of Chapter 3), this story is utter nonsense. lol
This is way more convoluted than any MGS game.
It was actually way easier at a certain point as the game forces you to walk at a snail’s pace.
Even then, just hold L2 and R2 and you’re set. The balance mechanic is absolutely trivial.
A lot of the mechanics are starting to wear thin. The BTs are more of a nuisance now than actually scary. The stamina and balance mechanic is stupidly easy to handle/counter.
There’s just not enough meat to the game.
I’m finding the gameplay to be fine, even though I definitely can see this getting stale after awhile.
The part I’m having issue with is the story. So much of it feels obtuse purely for being obtuse.
I was arguing with a person over the phone earlier today and they said the store confirmed no instore pick up tonight.

It's worth pointing out though that the Terminator in T2 had the intelligence restrictions removed from it by John and Sarah. I hated the intro, I hated the choppy ass action, I hated the fact that they showed virtually no restraint in any of the action sequences, and I hated how stupidly sappy it was in certain areas. Miller should have shut his mouth about the thumbs up scene in T2 as "For John" is infinitely worse.
Thank god this franchise is terminated.
That survey you’re citing had 60% of people making over 100k in some form of debt. That’s a majority. It doesn’t even touch the vast differences between say making 110k and 250k.
1/10 only applied to paycheck to paycheck and I bet you if they had worded it as, “Do you have 3 months of your salary saved up?” that number would have shot up as paycheck to paycheck can mean multiple things to different people.
There was zero savings in that budget. That's not (no offense to Octodad) a great place to be. Also depending on the house, $500 is an extremely low estimate for anything even semi major in a house or just miscellaneous as a whole. He also didn't include stuff like phone bills, car insurance, and gas (unless that falls under utilities).
Also it IS going to get harder for him as some point he's going to have to help with the kid's schooling and additional aspects related to the child.
100k isn't shit, especially pre-tax. Most of those people probably have student loans that eat up a good chunk of that as well. Now in some areas it might get you a decent house and all that but that's about it. In other areas like San Francisco, you're probably trying to make ends meet.
I should have qualified that by saying around 100k as if you’re making 150k+ you shouldn’t be paycheck to paycheck. Also how did they define that in that are you talking week to week or month to month? If you’re paid weekly then no you really shouldn’t be paycheck to paycheck but monthly is a totally different ballgame.
Edit: Found the survey60% of that 100k bracket are in debt and 10% are in almost constant paycheck to paycheck. Of note too is that this survey doesn't breakdown age in those income brackets as making 100k when you're 30 is substantially different than making it when you're 50.
Practice goes under, medical bills, back taxes, child needs therapy, house repairs and so on and so on. Everybody’s situations are different.
200k pretax and completely debt free outside of mortgage? Sure. However very people have minimal responsibilities like that. That’s not high enough of a number that you can just handwave other obligations. Again I’m not arguing that isn’t well off but there is a gap as wide as the ocean between well off and rich.
I know people making twice that much and are in debt. Taxes in particular are a bitch. It also depends on aspects like benefits, how many people in a household they’re supporting, how much student loans they have and interest attached to it, location, and transportation. One semi-decent medical bill and a good chunk of your salary can easily be gone. Also what mortgage are you paying off on a 100k salary and over how many years?
Are you going to be struggling with a 100k salary? Probably not. However that’s really not much in the grand scheme of things even in lower cost of living areas.
Yes, I have a family relative who has assets north of 100 million. I will likely never see a dollar from it. lol
People really don't understand what true 1%ers live like. There's a enormous divide in quality of life once you clear north of 500k and even then there's another gap past that.
ThreadBaltimore, MD investigating billing system for sewer and water after luxury condo complex received zero bills since 2007, residents want to pay bills
I imagine they probably don't want the headache of randomly getting a 10k bill one day or being sued by the city moreso than actually wanting to pay a bill just to pay a bill.
Insurance companies don't really offer it nowadays without restrictions like you have to finance the loan through their bank. Best option is credit union.
I got my gap insurance (and loan) through the dealership though because they offered to match the terms of the credit union.
I sort of hate how this poll question is worded. Should? Yes. Need to? No. A reviewer ideally should review a game after completing it but doesn't need to if they think the game is tripe or exceedingly long.
That said, this feels ridiculous that people are so heavily complaining about the Edge reviewer.

Whatever the goal is on the part of the director, the result is a show that feels disjointed at best and hamfistingly manipulative at worst. None of the drama feels organic in any way and instead is something akin to what I would expect from Black Rock Shooter TV. For example, this episode the melodrama is almost entirely in that one scene after the credits. It's too isolated from the show to have any real emotional value and it's so over-the-top in execution to not come across as laughable. The dialogue the father was spouting at the end was garbage in how stilted and contrived it was, which stands in to stark contrast with how natural the rest of the show is.
ThreadDeath Stranding - Review Thread (see staff post for discussion guidelines)
Yes I've read their earlier post detailing the incident with the truck. That sort of stuff is definitely fun. I'm worried though about cases like IGN describing climbing up a mountain for an hour.
ThreadDeath Stranding - Review Thread (see staff post for discussion guidelines)
Hmmm, I definitely agree that MGSV's open world was largely dead at times and felt half-baked in a number of areas but it did allow the player to sandbox how to complete a particular mission. So I feel that focus on strategizing was present in MGSV but in a different way. What I'm primarily concerned about is that MGSV gave the player a lot of freedom in how to complete a mission which could result in a number of completely different situations, while here it feels a bit more restrictive. I read your earlier post so it does seem like emergent gameplay is definitely present in the game but I'm wondering how much of that is there.
ThreadDeath Stranding - Review Thread (see staff post for discussion guidelines)
That reminds me a lot of MGSV actually. I'm not sure how I feel about that as I loved the freedom MGSV gave but hated how the story was handled. I'm hoping the huge emphasis on story here, despite some criticisms I've read about aspects like the exposition, make up for MGSV's shortcomings in that area. That's what I'm hoping for, mainly in terms of gameplay mechanics. Although hearing about the backtracking is offputting for me.

It being divisive does make me more excited for the game weirdly enough. I like works that usually have a polarizing reaction, as long as the game doesn't bore me. lol
ThreadDeath Stranding - Review Thread (see staff post for discussion guidelines)
I think if it got better after Chapter 3, more reviews would put an emphasis on that. Some do mention it gets better as you get more tools and such. Without playing the game myself I can't say for certain if there's a particular element that outweighs all the negatives except for maybe the 'experience'. In that it's something relatively new and unique and so maybe the originality aspect comes into play.
ThreadDeath Stranding - Review Thread (see staff post for discussion guidelines)
Ok. What do you want me to say? A game that looks to have a lot of boring elements probably won't play well with the general public? That a number of reviews seem inflated when you look at the score in comparison to what they're actually writing down in terms of their experiences? The Game Informer one stands out to me in that the reviewer sounded miserable playing the game but gave it a 7 anyway. That's not a good thing.
ThreadDeath Stranding - Review Thread (see staff post for discussion guidelines)
I expect this is going to review very well just because Kojima games do. I also expect that a number of the criticisms pointed out in the reviews are going to be substantially bigger issues for me than they were for the reviewers.

This was fucked. God damn it Akane. I was actually liking the episode until the end. Now this is on the level of an Okada Anime Original. This is so stupid. I was liking it so much until that drama kicked in. Ugh.
ThreadAnime |OT| Fall 2019 - Falling Down the Rabbit Hole
Background art is gonna be the star in this show. Character art/animation reminds me of something like CGI Banana Fish characters. It's frustrating as the staff on all the other components looks good.
ThreadNieR:Orchestra Concert re: 12018 Tour announced (Chicago, London, Bangkok)
I don’t think they’re allowing resales for the tickets throught ticketmaster. I screwed up and got a 2nd section seat before going back and getting a 1st section seat and tried to resell my ticket and it didn’t allow me.
ThreadAnime |OT| Fall 2019 - Falling Down the Rabbit Hole
Yea I don’t know. The PV images, color choices, and character adaptation designs kinda look eh. Shinji Kimura doing backgrounds is great though.
Also that CG head is probably going to end up being pure yikes.

A new season of Double Decker? Ok.
psyduck.gif
I don't even know where to begin with this. This was definitely made by the writer of Kado. I will say this, from a writing standpoint, this was by far the most interesting show I've watched in the past few days. Fuck, I wish they had done a Netflix dump with this as now I have to wait three weeks to find out where this is going.
Also that storyboarding in the second episode was uh intense.
Joker feels like the wrong movie to have this gripe with as the whole concept is inherently based around the most iconic crazy supervillain of all time. This would have to be more of an issue with the character as a concept rather than this individual movie in of itself.
ThreadJOKER |OT| Viviamo in una società |SPOILERS|
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised to find out the Sophie flashback revelation was studio mandated because test audiences didn't understand what had happened. The Murray thing is probably fine as is because it establishes Arthur as an unreliable narrator.
ThreadNew Yorker: 'Joker' is the comic book 'Green Book', Scorsese parodies (Spoilers)
Goetz feels like a maybe but even then there are a significant number of differences, for starters it wasn't a robbery in the movie. Also the subway as a setting for crime isn't particularly unique, especially when depicting 70's era NYC.
ThreadNew Yorker: 'Joker' is the comic book 'Green Book', Scorsese parodies (Spoilers)
That is such a garbage review that it's not really worth delving into. There is definitely a racial element to talk about in regards to the film but the opening being a reference to the Central Park 5???
ThreadJOKER |OT| Viviamo in una società |SPOILERS|
I had a discussion with someone earlier and we were discussing how the film is ambiguous in a multitude of ways. I want to think it's intentional as a way of playing up the unreliable narrator trope. For example did Arthur buy a gun somewhere or did the clown colleague give it to him as presented in the movie? Reason being that it was weird how the guy just backstabbed him like that. Was the uncontrollable laughter thing something he actually could control and not purely a neurological thing? It's hard because the film generally presents and reveals his delusions in a very obvious manner such as with the girlfriend but there's so many other instances in the background that I have to feel like it was intentional to an extent.
ThreadJOKER |OT| We live in a society |NO SPOILERS|
I don't understand these critiques when the movie is so obvious and on the nose with its messaging, which is eat the rich and the way the powerful (whether that's the media or rich) treat mental illness is deplorable. This isn't remotely subtle at all.
ThreadPersona 5:Mementos Reports favorite character poll results.
That Japanese demographic breakdown is bizarre. Is Persona that popular with females in Japan or is this survey just off and didn't get enough male respondents for whatever reason?
ThreadTexas Senator Cornyn: Trump Justice Department is investigating Biden for corruption
I don't understand how any Democrat could look at what happened in 2016 and say that this is a waste of Trump's time and effort. Hell, the fact that it tries to justify the Ukraine dealings means that it in of itself isn't a waste of time.
ThreadTexas Senator Cornyn: Trump Justice Department is investigating Biden for corruption
It's clear they're trying to push this so as to say what Trump did was legal. It's not and this is stupid misdirection considering this has already been investigated.
ThreadJOKER |OT| We live in a society |NO SPOILERS|
Yea I thought this was pretty great. It dodged a lot of the pitfalls I expected it to fall into. The tension level in some of the scenes near the end was through the roof.
ThreadAnime |OT| Fall 2019 - Falling Down the Rabbit Hole
Much better than I anticipated. The first half was bad enough to almost make me drop it as it's such saccharine that I couldn't stand it. You can see that in things like the character introduction cards, , and the voice acting. I figured it was deliberately 'sweet' so there could be a reversal and there was. The real Joro is significantly more interesting even if he borders on being an incel. I think that's the biggest problem/worry with the anime in that it might hedge that line a bit too much, in that it deters people from the show, but Pansy seems to serve as a counter for him. I like scumbag main characters and Joro looks to be a lot of fun with his 4th wall commentary and just overall disdain for everybody. He sort of reminds me of Momoko from Sabagebu.
This is totally going to piss a lot of people off though.
ThreadThe Dragon Prince |OT| The Last Frameratebender (S2 live now)
I expect Claudia to be the one of the two that ends up being fine with killing everybody. Soren feels like he's going to have a moment and balk while Claudia is off-kilter enough that she'll just say "fuck it" and go ahead.
ThreadThe Dragon Prince |OT| The Last Frameratebender (S2 live now)
It’s the cringiest aspect of the show both in placement and execution. It does help with the characterization of some of the characters but its used too often especially with Callum.
ThreadTop to bottom, does SPIDERMAN or BATMAN have the better Rogues Gallery?
The top tiers are about comparable. The problem is that Batman’s second and third tiers are just way better than Spider-Man’s. That’s where the big divide comes from.
Batman has also had vastly better movies/games with his higher level rogue gallery.
ThreadAnime |OT| Summer 2019 - Avenge the Off Modeled
This was bad. No way to dance around it. This was probably the worst season of Symphogeah that I've seen. Were there parts in other seasons that were worse? Sure. However this manages to be both offensively stupid and boring at the same time, something I had never really attributed to Symphogeah. For starters, the heavier focus on the Noise just felt like a waste on everybody's part and were just filler in terms of padding out the runtime. The designs have barely advanced since the earlier seasons and are in no way threatening at this juncture. Wars of attrition aren't exactly fun to watch. When the Noise showed up in the final episode, I literally groaned out loud.
Then for a little over 2/3rds of the season there were the jobber alchemists who served to pretty much show up and get Team Rocket'd every 10 minutes or so. When they initially got their Faust Robes I thought they might serve to be credible threats but no, they still kept on jobbing. There was one point where I was questioning why the heroes needed the Fool's Stone to upgrade their Symphogears as they had already shown they could possibly beat the alchemists without it. Then we have Saint-Germain who goes on and on and on about control and the laws of the world but she doesn't really advance this philosophy much nor has much of a character outside of it. I just played a game called Control that takes place in the Federal Bureau of Control and I think I heard/read the word control more in this season of Symphogeah than I did playing that game. The writers gave her one sad flashback and think that was enough characterization. The other two alchemists had even less character than that and served to again pad out the run time or be fanservice.
Then this happened at the end of episode 12 and I'm just dumbfounded at how stupid and unnecessary of a 'reveal' this is as the duo didn't do jack shit when Saint-Germain was actually fighting Adam and everybody was in trouble. They just showed up to die again.
Finally came the end game boss Adam who initially seemed okay but then started jobbing too and just reverted to a typical power hungry villain. He says the above line after he had already lost an arm and his 1000 year plan had gone down the tubes. He never seemed threatening outside of his introductory scene, all the way to the final episode he never once came across as intimidating or remotely interesting. This crew didn't even sing outside of their death song. Just like the Illuminati in real life, they were an utter disappointment on every level.
Moving on, the show had this utterly despicable episode justifying child abuse. There's an entire episode dedicated to Maria justifying her mom beating her with a riding crop. At least now I know that children are like tomatoes and if you starve them to the brink of death then you're being a great parent. I understand the writers had been trying to soften 'Mom' for awhile but this wasn't the way to do it. It reminds me of Bungou Stray Dogs and how the writers there brushed off the child abuse with a similar logic.
The side material, such as with Chris, didn't work at all. Part of it was repeatedly flashing to the same exact flashback but also every time there was an emotional scene, one of the alchemists would show up and start a fight such as in the above scene. I also thought it was a bit ridiculous/plot contrivance that Chris ran into Sonia's brother in the first place. Kirika's emotional issue was just bizarre in how being called an easy-going girl bothered her.
The fights weren't particularly memorable outside of the above one, largely due to the enemies. I also didn't think the character songs were special, with the exception of Chris's cherry boy and Saint-Germain's final/only one. What I was impressed with was the background OST, I thought there were a few good tunes there. The animation was fairly solid but that's not a surprise at this point as Symphogear is the only Satellite franchise where the studio/staff seem to give a shit. The but eh, it's Satellite.
Genjuro's training sequence and some of the duet songs near the end were the only thing of value in this season.
ThreadWhen you watched Return of the Jedi, did you think the Emperor had been defeated at the end?
Snoke was a garbage villain anyway and a bad Palpatine ripoff. The decision to kill off Snoke was a good one by itself. The problem is the follow through.
ThreadWhen you watched Return of the Jedi, did you think the Emperor had been defeated at the end?
It’s obviously stupid and a reaction to not establishing Snoke as credible and killing him. It is what it is though. Abrams is not exactly a great creative mind and loves milking old stuff for nostalgia purposes (see Into Darkness).
Outside of garbage directors like Treverrow, he was probably the worst person on a thematic level to follow up TLJ.

This is such a no-brainer of a poll and thread. Pretty much every other game in that poll took inspiration from Gears.
ThreadWould you still buy a car that was goverened to the speed limit, digitally?
Even people under the speed limit can be hazardous such as swerving. I would be very much against this. Sometimes speeding is the smartest and safest play especially when passing others who are driving in an unsafe manner.

ThreadAt the end of the day, who was a more competent Jedi Knight - Anakin before turning into Vader, or Luke?
EU Luke was an absolute animal. He would have been the most powerful Jedi in history by a huge margin. We’re talking putting Starkiller in TFU to shame. Canon Luke doesn’t have the feats Anakin does.
ThreadAt the end of the day, who was a more competent Jedi Knight - Anakin before turning into Vader, or Luke?
If you include Clone Wars, it’s Anakin by a country mile in terms of capability and just overall Force usage. Compare Ep 3 Anakin to RotJ Luke and Luke would have gotten bodied.
Thread'Star Wars' Shocker: Marvel's Kevin Feige Developing New Movie for Disney (Exclusive)
I’m fine with this. I have issues with the MCU feeling samey but Feige has done a wonderful job building up that universe. He would need to give the directors more freedom though than he does in the MCU.

But he’s not starting from scratch and it’s asinine to even think that. He had resources available to him from the moment he left Konami that no other Japanese developer in the world has.

Obviously there are key differences.
Because it bugged me. It didn’t piss me off or anything of that extreme. There are different emotional response levels other than being mad. I get what he was going for and I think it’s a stupid tweet regardless. It doesn’t mean I think less of him or anything of that nature.
ThreadKotaku | Hideo Kojima's Controversial Tweets Are Different In Japanese
I get that but it feels similar to something like a billionaire’s son striking it out on his own and then bragging about how he started from scratch to make X successful company. It’s ultimately whatever though.
ThreadKotaku | Hideo Kojima's Controversial Tweets Are Different In Japanese
Well yes, there’s probably a few people like Miyamoto or Iwata (that list probably consists almost entirely of Nintendo staff and Miyazaki). He got the red carpet treatment for sure though. It felt like studios were fighting to give their engine away to him.
ThreadKotaku | Hideo Kojima's Controversial Tweets Are Different In Japanese
It’s pretty obvious what he meant about being involved in all stages of game design so the way people interpreted that was weird.
I will say though that the one, about him starting at zero with only connections, I found obnoxious because his situation was vastly better than most people and it’s really downplaying the fact that people were tripping over themselves to give him resources.

ThreadGeorge Lucas upon seeing The Force Awakens for the first time: "There's nothing new."
I’m in the same boat. I think a lot of the problems with the ST stem from JJ so it’s going to be fascinating to see him close it out. The last sequel he made was dogshit (Into Darkness).
ThreadGeorge Lucas upon seeing The Force Awakens for the first time: "There's nothing new."
I’m not sure how much of this I truly believe and this might be too much of a hot take, but I feel JJ is like a signficantly less talented Tarantino. He puts a lot of emphasis on banter/characters but is awful when it comes to larger narrative structures and originality.

I thought the same thing. If you’re one of those dipshits taking instagram photos in the middle of the sidewalk then you deserve people being rude as hell to you.
Nobody has actually had that problem to begin with. True immortality is a long long time, to the point that we as humans can’t begin to fathom it. Our entire society and social interactions would be radically different. 10k alone would be roughly twice the span of human civilization. Now imagine 100,000 years. Boredom without a doubt would be your biggest enemy.

ThreadWhy doesn't Disney make anymore animated movies with male protagonists who are 18-25?
They make about one a year which is slightly slower than in the 90s but the pace is fairly comparable. I thought it was slower too but it's not a significant difference.
ThreadThis opening from Kimagure Orange Road (1988 anime) is an amazing "one take" piece of animation
