Thread Best Switch Diablo-like?
Torchlight 2 is probably as close to Diablo 2 as you can really get on the Switch. Fairly decent mix of classes and mechanically the game is very similar. The only knock I'd really give it is the cartoony style isn't really for me. It's a pretty good game though.Hades is great but it's strictly an action roguelite. There's no loot or itemization really.

I'm currently spending time upgrading my wolf armor a ton to tackle it. Even at lv3 upgrades I still get one-shot by the 1-star furlings if I don't parry right. I don't understand the question, you have to get to an area first before you can portal there. I bring the mats for a portal with me when I go to new areas, then if I need to stop along the way I drop the portal so I don't have to start over. Then tear down the portal and move on until I reach my destination.

I think my main complaint of the game so far (and it's still a fantastic game overall) is combat on slopes. I imagine it would at least be somewhat less since mining tends to be a 24/7 gig, whereas your average PC user is only really using them when they are using the PC, so let's assume people sleep 8 hours a day, so it's at least a factor of 1/3 less usage than if they were running constantly.

Thread Crypto hate on Era
Yeah that's probably my point at its most basic. It's like the libertarian pipe dream of complete deregulation which isn't feasible in this whole thing we call reality. If crypto can be a feasible currency in the sense that it's universally accepted and handled similarly with countries across the globe, then great. However, right now it's generally seen as this ethereal thing that can or cannot make money for a select few that happened to get in early and were able to ride the high of everyone else buying into it in order to make a profit. I'm hopeful that the former can happen, but it's gonna piss a lot of tech bros off that were essentially using crypto as a money-making machine rather than an actual alternative to tangible currency.

Thread Crypto hate on Era
I'll repeat that I don't really have a dog in this fight in general. But again, this whole transaction is relying on a currency that is not regulated and is not fiat currency, meaning that it isn't backed by anything other than whomever out there is "mining" it (and that's a whole other can of worms I'm not going to get into right now). Again, if it works in these instances, then great, but my concern is the overall usage of crypto as some sort of legitimate currency, If it can get there, great, but as of now, it's really just this back room boogeyman that is opaque to your average person and is not something that is readily usable or even profitable for your average person due to the fact that it's an unregulated currency.

Thread Tears for Fears Was Amazing
You all have heard them. You may not know who they are because you are young as fuck and mostly thought that the soundtrack to Donnie Darko was awesome but fuck it, you're gonna learn now. Tears for Fears was created ~1981 by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal, after a series of musical ventures that didn't pan out. Their first hit was "," which many of you are probably imagining as a Gary Jules song from Donnie Darko . Now, I will say I the Gary Jules version, but it would not exist without Tears for Fears. While the album that Mad World released on, was a success, Tears for Fears didn't achieve massive success until their next album. Fuck, even And that album was . One of the best albums ever created. You have most likely heard at least one of the songs on this album, and if you haven't, it's time to join the rest of us in reality. was their big hit in 1984, and paved the way for the rest of their success. Of any song you may have heard from them, is the one that I guarantee you have heard. Other than that, there's Mothers Talk and I Believe. But you all know this song, Head Over Heels. The band broke up in 1991 and everything after never reached the same heights, but damn. Let's celebrate Songs From the Big Chair. if you give me shit for this thread, we are fucking done. Thread Crypto hate on Era
That makes some sense, but why is it different than just using regular currency? Those have established values and can be easily exchanged - you say there's no middleman for crypto but it has to be convertable to some sort of currency for it to be legitimate. Again, I still don't understand what problem that crypto actually "solves," even in this case. It's a monetary transaction. At some point there is a conversion of one currency to another, and I don't see how crypto is any different in that respect - crypto by its very nature has to be convertable to some sort of real world currency.

Thread Crypto hate on Era
Again, this doesn't really address the issues that plague crypto as a whole in that it's a totally unregulated asset that *sometimes* can manifest as a legitmate currency. I'm happy that it worked out for whatever community you're referring to, but that seems more like a process problem than something that crypto specifically solved. As of now there isn't some sort of regulation for how crypto operates, so the fact that this bank was able to make it work is actually really surprising, because cypto is literally a currency - just like any other - so I am legitimately surprised that the monetary savings involved was due to crypto and not some sort of process anomaly.

Thread Crypto hate on Era
That's kinda my point. It's not regulated in the sense that crypto is a universally accepted currency or anything. The "use case varies" part is really just a way of saying that "hey this shit might work or might not." Disclaimer: I don't really care if there is a universally accepted digital currency or not, but pretty much every crypto that is currently available basically advertises itself as a pyramid scheme of sorts. If you can make bank on it, then kudos, good on ya, but so far it has never seemed to me to be some sort of replacement of currency and more an ethereal method for people to gain money with no actual tangible benefit or relation to real-world currency.

Make a base for your building with horizontal beams DIRECTLY ON THE GROUND (levelling/raising the ground never seems to be perfect for me so sometimes the dirt comes through the floor). Add vertical beams directly on top of these beams. Pretty much everything you do needs to come off of these beams. Floors, for instance, I think the best I can get structurally is 3 2x2 floor panels inbetween beams. Keep making cubes of sorts. For longer roofs I found making hallways like this useful. The PMP is good for being a baseline for employers to look for on your resume. Problem is you need a bunch of experience in addition to passing the exam (like tracking hours that you performed doing projects), but you can get the CAPM certification that is basically just the exam while working on the PMP. The PMBOK is the driest book I've ever read, but it's probably one of the better sources of material for the PMP. There are a bunch of study guides out there, but I was lucky enough for my employer to send me to a week-long bootcamp that helped get the information in my head. But yeah, the thing with Project Management is that a lot of it is just formalized common sense. Staying organized and knowing how to keep things on track and forecast how things will go in the future.

But take the graph you posted - BLM started back with Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, and that graph doesn’t start going up into roughly four years after the fact. Yes and no. It’s not whether or not it makes sense, it’s whether or not people can get on board with it . Yes, it would be nice if people just inherently weren’t complete morons, but if you can come up with some idiotic counter to the slogan in order to be incendiary, then it’s going to take a lot more work to be effective.

Yes, that sort of thing should be taught in schools, imo - critical thinking, in general, is an incredibly useful skill. As much as I want to blame this sort of thing on a shitty education system, a lot of this boils down to the internet and the ease in which people have access to """"""""""""information"""""""""""". I have relatives on my wife's side that think this sort of thing, and I can feel my humanity being sapped as I consider any sort of options should this sort of thing happen to them. They are selfish, horrible people (and thankfully my wife was able to escape that life), but I know it's not entirely their fault - many of them are stuck in a system that simply refuses to teach them things like fact-finding. I absolutely hate myself for thinking this way, but fuck 'em. I've spent countless hours trying to teach my brother-in-law (Pennsylvania, between Philly and Cetnre country) on why his pro-Trump beliefs have no basis in reality, but the reasons for the resistance are so deep-seated that it would take an act of G-d to shift those tectonic plates. They are not going to change, and unfortunately, it is not entirely their fault. Many places are so far behind in things like education that people are not prepared to confront information that challenges their views. There have been glimpses of clarity when talking to my BIL where he understands that the things he believes are completely farfetched and ridiculous, but there's only so much that an outside individual can do.

But others have basically said it - these people remember some privileged version of the 1950s where white folk didn’t have to give a damn about anything other than themselves. Now that other people want equal rights, and are finally making progress towards that, they feel like that means they have to give up theirs. It’s bigotry and ignorance mainly.

Thread After the 2020 Election wraps up, what is your opinion on sites like 538?
538 and other pollsters are a bit of a necessary "evil" (I use that word but don't really mean it) - polling is literally just statistics. It's not a definitive judgment, only an indication on how things SHOULD progress. Campaigns use the data in order to make decisions as well. But the short of it is that just because they say something is "likely" doesn't mean it WILL happen and vice versa. They are good indicators, but it's still not gospel.

Thread Verified Member Program
Hi all, Since October 2017 we've been offering a Verified Member Program, through which developers, public relations, and press can acquire "Verified status" on their account. Anyone who believes that their verification can benefit the community is eligible to apply. This thread contains an FAQ to help everyone understand more about what verification entails. At ResetEra, we’re looking to help foster deep relationships between those who consume games and those that develop, write about and publish them. A verified account is an additional layer of trust and authenticity to your account. It adds weight to your posts and helps to strengthen the notion that you’re a real human being that has passion for the work you do. We think that being verified can help to create a stronger relationship with your audience and gives you an opportunity to step into discussions about your work as a valuable source of authority. We believe having an identifiable voice on one of the fastest-growing video game forums on the internet is important. Please note that verified status will not entitle you to preferential treatment from the staff and you will still be expected to adhere to the same forum rules as any other member. Once you have verified your account you will have a verified icon placed under your username and you will also have the ability to add a descriptive custom tag under your profile picture to explain your current role in the industry. The verified Icon looks like this: If you are interested please reach out by email at:In the email you'll need to provide:We’d like to note that becoming a verified member is completely optional. It is something you would opt in to. We fully understand that many industry members will wish to remain anonymous and we respect that. It’s not really a “purpose,” so much that it’s essentially a user group that is displayed. It’s the same as the Administrator text for me. When we did the Avenger thingy we did something different and one-off than just changing the custom tag field like we do for every other tag, because we had to do 1200+ of them at once. That’s why it’s different. That said, I take your point, but not sure how technically feasible it is. I can ask.

That's a good question. While we can't really ensure that each and every report gets a detailed response, if for some reason things are not clear, then yes, submit a ticket (please don't spam us with tickets, though :P). As for things taking a while, that could be for any number of reasons, so a ticket wouldn't necessarily "speed things up." For instance, it might just be a matter of staff availability at the time.We let the tech team know, probably just some quirk with XF.

A lot of that stemmed from when it was initially created - a place where people can just EDIT STUFF??!?! oh no But then, while that is still true, it's clear that only a specific subset of people have any interest in maintaining the information contained on Wikipedia. Just look into any math equation article - it's insane how detailed it gets. While I completely understand why teachers and the like don't like it as a "source," it provides the sources at the bottom of the page and those should provide the information. It's an invaluable tool for coalescing information.

- There's a difference between drive-bys and "drive-bys." Yes, I know that doesn't make sense, but hear me out. If the post derails the thread, if it's overly offensive, or if is clearly a post that is not a joke (e.g., not a tongue-in-cheek jab), then it's fair game for a ban/warning. That's not to say we see everything. We do rely heavily on reports for moderation due to the amount of posts that are made each day on the site. - I do agree that the negativity is something that has to come from the bottom-up. While there are things that I think staff can do to foster that sort of thing (and we are actively discussing), the majority of the effort is going to take place at the individual user level. To quote a post I made in Etc:

OT threads are great for people who have purchased the game and are making their way through it. They can also have review info in their OPs. Review threads, on the other hand, are for people who just want to talk about the game as a whole and its impact and place amongst other games. I personally think review scores are dumb, but I get that people want to talk about it, and the two discussions are distinct enough that they deserve separate threads.

As an aside, what do you think would help bridge that divide between mods and users? While we try to involve ourselves in various communities and threads, that division always seems to persist (even amongst the mods we "promote" from within communities). I get the whole "us vs. 'management'" side of things - that happens in the real world as well, but there isn't really a simple solution there. I, personally, tend to specifically seek out threads to post in that won't be hotspots, but I also seek out threads like this one where I feel I can communicate "directly" with people and address feedback. I'm aware there are users that don't like me (I mean c'mon, I just exude arrogance), but meh. :P

Added numbers for me to address. 1- I get it. The main reason that talk was discouraged wasn't really to silence discourage the discussion so much as we were looking to start anew. This was a chance to make a fresh start, and having countless threads talking about *what had happened* wasn't really going to be productive. I get it, though. 2- Discord has its place. I know that forums are a different form of communication that also has its place but is inherently different from things like chat rooms and, say, Reddit. For short-term discussions I think Discord is great. For longer-form discussions I do prefer forums given the long-term nature of the responses. That said, discord does provide a secondary outlet for dicsussions (and, for better or for worse, a place for close-knit groups to congregate) 3 - The reporting system is both a blessing and a curse. No longer do we have to comb every thread in order to find problem posts, but it also means we get hundreds of posts reported to us each day that we have to evaluate. Many of those are rejects. We get tons of reports that are basically "THIS GUY IS DISAGREEING WITH ME" and that goes straight into the bin, and then we get people wondering why we "don't respond to reports." Sigh. However, a fair amount of them are actionable, and we address them as we get them in. 4 - I, uh....ok.

I feel this isn’t necessarily an “Era” problem so much as society as a whole. While my wish is that people here can conduct themselves accordingly (trolls that show up, aside), there is a general feeling of us vs. them across the entire country at the moment. A lot of people on Twitter complain about the people here and my first thought is *gestures wildly at Twitter.* There are various areas where I feel like we are generally on the same page - sexual assault/abuse is bad, believe women, black lives matter, etc., but Era is not a monolith. Some people are just shitty. An email address is not enough for us to determine whether or not someone is going to come in and cry about "mah politics in mah games!!!!11!! (alts notwithstanding...but that said, if you're an alt, we will find you)." I do wish people would come together. I get the reasons for some of the polarization (for instance, those who want Trump out of office vs. those who are not comfortable voting for Biden)...I honestly do, and so does the rest of staff. If you're a console warrior, though, there's no hope for you. If you are, please just PM me so I can get that ban out of the way. But we largely agree with each other. Our differences should be stupidly small, like preferring a game over the other, but realizing that others may like/dislike different things. I do encourage users to make more threads about games that they enjoy rather than those that they hate. Or hell, every day occurrences that they enjoyed rather than your look-at-this-shit-that-happened-today thread. I think it's important to be abreast of these terrible things, but there are 49 other spots on the front page of each forum that could be filled with good things. We all need good things. I saw two black bears and a brown bear today. My wife decided that we should head back on the trail when we noticed that two of the bears were like 20 ft. away though.

It's not that hard. I mean, for some reason people just feel the ABSOLUTE NEED to shit on something that other people are enjoying, and it makes no sense to me. It really is not easy to get banned. I do not understand people who think this. We're incredibly lenient on things like drive-by posts ("is it funny," "did it derail," "was it innocuous," etc.) and other things. Yeah, if you're coming into a thread where someone is complaining about representation in a game and your comment is the gaming equivalent of "all lives matter," then yeah, here's my foot meeting your ass. But like, just having an argument about, say, console specs? As long as you're not sitting there giving the other poster shit for liking something else we don't care. There's literally one major, overarching rule for ResetEra. DON'T BE A DICK. Following that rule will save you from about 95% of the reasons for being banned.

There are perfectly good reasons to discuss that sort of thing though: - Capitalism, ho! - It's perfectly fine, imo, to recognize that people like CEOs are not exactly operating with their workers' interests in mind and also enjoying the product that said workers create - We are largely a collection of "gamers" - our entire hobby revolves around the concept of "luxury." Games are not "needed," but they are appreciated. We all want certain things, but we also have to either accept that there are certain issues that come with that luxury, or deny ourselves that luxury. THAT SAID, we should ABSOLUTELY work towards making those issues minimal or non-existent. - The people making our games are PEOPLE, with lives, feelings, etc. They should 100% be made whole.

It would be more like "News," "Rumor," "Xbox," "Nintendo," etc., rather than having hundreds of different ones (also there are technical issues regarding tags that we're still looking into). But that also kinda leads into my prior point. It's up to the USERS to not make shit that isn't entirely negative. That's not to say every TLJ thread that is made needs to be washing Rian Johnson's balls, but there seems to be a preponderance of people who are just making threads about it just to shit on it. Yeah that’s kinda the thing I wish more people would realize. Things do in fact change, and there’s a world of difference between someone that has proper information *at the time* and it turns out to be different, vs. someone just spouting nonsense.

Not specifically. But again, given what I know about his connections it’s entirely possible he may have heard something.

I did. But only in the sense that I believe he has the connections to be party to info, not necessarily that the info he states is true.

I like their solution to the “eternity is boring” problem. While on one hand I can see them going through the door at the end, I feel like that somehow seems at odds with their whole theme about working together and friendship and how no matter what has happened, they’ve stuck together. So I guess the other option is that maybe they stick around and become architects, since it’s possible that whenever new people show up they would have different needs and wants and they would find joy in solving those problems together.

To the extent that I at least consider them to be credible, sure. Any individual info they share should still be taken with a grain of salt. EDIT: just realized what thread this was. I verified them having knowledge having to do with comics and comic-related stuff, not video games.

Cloud of Darkness in the DS version is exponentially more difficult than the Famicom version. In the original all it does is spam Flare Wave, which hits everyone for like, 2K, so you just have to keep up heals while attacking. The DS version gets like, what, 3-5 attacks per round?

As much as I love FF3, the final dungeon is insane. Long dungeon, Major boss fight, then transported to the last dungeon where you have to fight four bosses (and random enemies) before you fight the final boss. Oh and there is no way to save.

Finished my first route, Urpina. I must have gotten an easy version of the final boss because he barely touched me (3 battles with multiple phases each). Started up again and rolled Balmaint, we’ll see how this goes! As an aside, where is a good place to get Dragon Scales? Toward the end any upgrade I needed required those and I could rarely find them.

I’m at Azuhacan during the Phoenix scenario, and there is a fight with two Infernal Destroyers that I assume is blocking my path. How on earth do I beat these guys? Feels like a lot of RNG to stop them from using Double Machine Guns which two-shots my party.

2nd Act, Urpina. I’m trying to get to the middle tower and I might just be missing the path, but the only thing it seems I can do is fight one of those scarlet shard monsters that pops up. And yeah I’ve been trying that. Protect helps me last a few extra turns but they are just sponges so I can’t take them out before I get taken out, especially when one of my stuns doesn’t connect.

Thread Playing the "vision" vs. playing your game. What does it all mean?
No. You are changing the difficulty. The game remains the “same,” in that you are still playing the same game, with the same story, same gameplay, same music, same everything. My definition of “easy” may be different from yours, but ultimately we can still play the same game but with different levels of difficulty. If I play Uncharted on Easy and you play it on Hard, did we play different games?

Thread Playing the "vision" vs. playing your game. What does it all mean?
No? It’s a statistic. The player may end up playing a bit more aggressively, but the same tools are at their disposal and progression is the same. Difficulty is subjective. Some things may be easy for some, tough for others, and even impossible for a few.

Thread I played Sekiro with an Easy Mode mod and it was fun as hell
I guess my point is what is the point of the pedantry? If you beat the game normally, then good for you. I haven’t played Sekiro but I’ve beaten several of the Souls games and I don’t feel the need to come in here and add some sort of asterisk to the OP’s experience. Will the OP be able to have the same discussions around the challenges they had to overcome to beat a boss? Probably not. So they’ll miss out on that sort of discussion. But if they had fun, I don’t see why there is this need for people to just dump on them because they want to feel better than them. I suck at RTS games - i would never have finished Warcraft 2 and the expansion without using some of the cheat codes. Did I have fun? Absolutely.

Ok, so what does that have to do with how the OP played it? People play games to have fun first and foremost, if there’s something that makes it more fun for them why not let them do it? Doesn’t take away from anyone else who played it, and now maybe OP has some practice now and would want to try it without the mods. Who knows? Let people enjoy games.

Even without a financial cost, every game has a time cost - one can change it to “invest time in the game” or “give it a shot and see”, but I feel like you’re just trying to nitpick - I clearly gave a generic example that would obviously need tweaking for things like F2P games

IIRC for that specific thing I believe it can be set to either “go to OP” or “go to last post.” While doing some investigating today I see many places use the former since they think people may want a refresher on the OP, which I can see making sense.

Thread Why does my place in threads I've read before get "lost" after awhile?
Xenforo automatically marks posts as read after a certain timeframe. The default is 30 days. I’m not sure if we’ve changed that though. (I have no idea if/what this affects, performance-wise, but I imagine the DB gets a shit ton of rows based on having entries for every user and the read status of each thread)

Thread WORST combat system of any game?
Sure, trash mobs go down easy enough, but again that’s just auto attacking until you can use the specials (it’s been a long time since I played it so I forget what the terms are), and you don’t even need to get into the more technical things like launch and combos. So even though you can do those things they’re not necessary for trash mobs, and then with bosses you’re basically waiting around for those things to be ready. Until then you’re just trying to outheal any damage being done to you.

Thread WORST combat system of any game?
Ramsay said it better. But having to spend two minutes getting to the point where I can actually do damage is far more boring than selecting a command and, ya know, it doing the thing. It’s why Legend of Dragoon was terrible - “hey you know what would be awesome? If we required the player to perform a series of inputs in order to make a standard attack do actual damage!”I still don’t know how I feel about W1’s combat. It’s super simplistic, but there is something, I don’t know, calming (?) about getting into the rhythm of swinging the sword. I know it’s not “great” but I can’t help but enjoy it in some weird way.

Bellefonte and Boalsburg are decent areas if you don't want to live in State College. There's a saying about Pennsylvania - "Pittsburgh on one side, Philly on the other, and Alabama in the middle" - State College is pretty much a city in the middle of farmland, so it's a little odd, heh. I don't think you'll run into too many issues about being from California. Especially near a college town where not everyone is from in-state.

Thread So what ever happened to the transparency that era was founded upon?
Christ. All right let’s do this. 1. It’s one thread, and it is a specific instance of said dogs attacking another dog. You will see people discussing both the topics of pit bulls in general and those espousing concern for the dog that was attacked. 2. If we are pro-Palestine, we are apparently anti-Semitic. If we are pro-Israel, we are anti-humanitarian. There is a reason we have a staff post in every. single. one. of those threads. Israelis!=Israeli government, and we support the idea that people should be allowed to exist without conflict. 3. One post, and I checked, it was never reported. We get thousands of posts per day and we do not manually see them all, as that is nigh impossible. 4. While we could certainly be better, there was an instance in this thread where someone was permed for defending his “rike” comment. 5. You’re going to have to be more specific here, because in recent months I don’t see any reason why people wouldn’t be outraged by things like China’s treatment of the Uyghurs. 6. You said it yourself, it’s a largely US-centric forum. Wanna change it? Get more non-US people to sign up. 7. Gonna need more specifics. Apart from us wanting communities to be more accepting of new users, or wanting them to not antagonize other established communities , I don’t know what you’re talking about. 8. Adverts are not generally controlled by site managers. It’s a pool of advertisements that are tailored to individual users. What you are browsing will ultimately determine your ads. We make an effort to correct any malicious, screen-blocking ads, but just like literally any site out there, our control is only as far as the complaints that we get. 9. Again, need more specifics. We are consistently handling things like mental health on the forum. We support the Mental Health community, and if anyone is in imminent danger, we will take steps to help them.

We want to be part of the communities because the main reason we do any of this is that we love this community - we aren’t looking for trouble. I would be incredibly h
