Thread Please welcome your new General Manager: B-Dubs!
Dear ResetEra, Happy new year! It's hard to believe that it's been over two years since this site was first founded. It feels like an eternity and yet it feels like no time at all. We had to put a lot together in a hurry, and today the community is thriving on a cutting edge platform with exclusive features. It's been humbling to be a part of building that and accompanying you all on this journey. However, I've been feeling burned out for a while now. 2020 is set to be a big year, and you deserve a General Manager who can put their best foot forward. So today I am relinquishing my involvement in day to day operations here on ResetEra, including staff management, moderation, policy creation, etc. Of course I never handled any of that by myself; the staff have always done everything as a team, and that collaborative spirit will endure. Going forward I do not intend to have a direct hand in anything but industry outreach and logistical support. I'll be on indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future. B-Dubs is your new General Manager. This is an enormous responsibility, requiring more work (and more stress!) than you might think. I really respect his courage and enthusiasm in taking this on. I share with B-Dubs a particular pride in the work we've done to make ResetEra the most inclusive large gaming community on the internet. That work is ongoing, and B-Dubs is passionate about continuing it. Nobody loves this community more, and nobody is better prepared for the responsibility. He will have access to all of the resources and tools he might need. He has a team of wonderful people behind him. You are in good hands. Thank you to all the members and the staff, you've been the greatest. This community's best days are yet to come.

Thread The Ad Reporting Thread
I had a phone call with the ad agency today and apparently this is an industry-wide outbreak and the worst they've seen in years. It's definitely not normal, even for this time of the year. They're bringing everything they've got to bear against the problem and we've had some success today. It'll may still be touch and go for a while.

Thread The Ad Reporting Thread
I've been browsing on desktop today without any problems, but yes in the past week I have been getting redirects on mobile. The steps we took did seem to reduce the problem a lot over the weekend, but again the end of the year is peak season for this stuff -- stamping out the bad ads as they slip in is an ongoing effort. It takes continuous work. There isn't a silver bullet.

Thread So what ever happened to the transparency that era was founded upon?
I'm aware that this is something alt-right sites have been trying to make hay over. I never expected to see it here, but I don't want to leave any doubts about what actually happened. When I was in high school, I along with several other students were part of a complaint against a school librarian named Christopher Asch because he wouldn't keep his hands to himself. I'd rather not get into a lot of detail about that as it's a painful subject for me, but his defense at the time was that we were targeting him because he was gay. That was never true, the accusations of slurs were never true. What is true is that some years later he made the news for this: So, yeah, that's the story. Not something I ever expected to have to talk about in public but there it is.

This actually shouldn't be happening as we implemented a fixed container for the ads on mobile. What OS/browser are you getting it on?For third party apps this is something you should report to the app developer.

Okay I see what the problem is. There are two types of apostrophes and, because you weren't using the same one in the title, it threw off the search. There might be some steps we can take to improve how the search handles this, and we will try. But even if it works we'll need to rebuild the index again.

No need to worry; your account should remain valid no matter what happens to your old email. The only thing you'd lose is the ability to reset your password via email if you lock yourself out of your account. If you absolutely must change your email in the interim, drop me a PM and I'll see what I can do.Looks like a problem with the search index. The fix is straightforward, but it's also tedious and will result in search being disabled for most of a day. We'll try to get to it this weekend.

The cutoff was not the only technical problem we ran into while trying to implement a container -- the different layouts on mobile vs desktop also caused some unexpected problems. We consulted with three different people on this issue, none of whom were able to achieve a satisfactory solution. We WILL consult with a larger contractor to see what they can come up with. We understand the complaint and will pursue the issue until we find a solution that works. It's really just not as simple as it might seem.

It's strange that this new issue would crop up now -- we haven't changed anything on our end, so I've forwarded the issue to our ad partners to see if they have any idea what's up. Thanks for the reports.I do not believe there is a limit. Glad you like the feature! We've investigated solutions to this and unfortunately there isn't a perfect one. The best we could do is create a fixed container for it, and we did in fact test that solution on the old design, but the result was that it cut off the "Report Ad" link underneath the ads and members were no longer able to report bad ads directly. That obviously generated a lot of complaints as well, and in the end we decided to err on the side of allowing reports. You can click on the "Left Arrow" button on the right side of each thread to get to the OP from the thread list.

We'll look into this, but even in the best case scenario this would still leave iOS out in the cold. The ideal solution would be for Apple to support standard APIs on WebKit, which might well happen -- we just can't do anything about it.

Thread ResetEra Tech Thread - 5/24/19 Site Update (Report Bugs Here)
Hello everyone! Last time we were proud to introduce the most advanced available on any traditional forum. Today, we were able to successfully apply a major upgrade to our core forum software -- given how extensively we've customized it, this involves more work than you might think. Our hope is that this update will help resolve a range of compatibility and stability issues that have been reported. As with any major update, there may be some initial wrinkles, so please report any new or lingering bugs and technical issues in this thread. Of course, this upgrade brings along with it some cool new features for your convenience. There are also a couple returning features (old favorites), another feature that's been around but which we're highlighting for the first time, and a preview of a big new feature that is available now! Due to the way that mobile browsers handle font sizing, we were previously unable to offer adjustable display options that would reliably work for everyone. That has now changed in this update. As one of the first options under your you will now be able to choose between 4 different font sizes (Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large) that will apply to all text on our site. These settings should work across all devices and browsers. No more squinting! After an initial delay, this feature has now been implemented and can be turned on in your ! With push notifications active, your browser will prompt you to accept notifications from ResetEra -- you should obviously do so if you want to take advantage of this feature. Please note that while most browsers are supported, Safari and anything on iOS are not, for reasons that are out of our hands. Your preferences allow you to pick and choose what you would like to receive notifications about. These settings are saved on a per-device basis. The contents of a notification are similar to an alert, only slimmed down a little. You do not need to be viewing the forum to receive a notification, nor does the browser need to be active. This feature is now the best way to ensure that you won't miss a thing. ResetEra is a big place, and it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of your favorite content. When we launched our current site design we included a version of this feature, which proved popular. Unfortunately, we were soon forced to disable it for performance reasons, but we always intended to bring it back. We're pleased to be able to do that now! Any bookmarks you created before have been preserved and should carry over. This new implementation is integrated directly into the core software. The option to add a bookmark can be found on the top right of every post. Your list of bookmarks will be accessible as a separate tab alongside your account options (click your avatar on the top bar). This time you can even add your own description for each bookmark, and organize and filter them via tags. Bookmarks are tied to your account and will persist across every device. It's back! Well over a year ago when the site first launched we implemented a version of this feature for a brief time, but were forced to disable it for technical reasons. We are finally pleased to bring this old favorite back, this time without the original problems. At the top right of every thread you will now find a 'Who Replied?' button which will rank the posters in the thread by descending post count. You can even filter names on the list. Right next to the new Bookmark icon at the top right of each post, you will now find a new Share icon as well. Clicking this will bring up an overlay that will allow you share the post directly to your social media outlet of choice. There is also a convenient option to copy a link to the post to your clipboard. Did you know that you can navigate the site with the number keys on your keyboard? This function has actually been available from the beginning, but we have not highlighted it before. Members recommended we include it in an announcement, which we are doing now! While browsing the site, if you press the number 1, you will be brought to the main page. The other numbers correspond with Quick Jump destinations in descending order; 2 for the Gaming Forum, 3 for the Gaming Hangouts, 4 for the EtcetEra Forum, all the way down to 8 for Watched Threads. We are experimenting with this new feature: For now, when a URL is placed on its own line in a post, it will automatically be converted into a more detailed preview that includes the destination page title, metadata logo, description and favicon. We'll be monitoring how this feature works out in practice, and will decide whether it will remain permanent at a later date. Ever since we first launched our ad-free subscription service, members have often asked us for an alternative payment method that does not require PayPal. As it turns out, the software we're now using features native integration with Stripe, a service that allows you to directly and conveniently pay via credit card or Apple Pay. If you do not want to use PayPal you can now complete your transactions securely via Stripe, without needing any other account besides your ResetEra account. No payment details are ever stored or processed on our end. PayPal remains an option for those who like it. Have you ever wanted to do something nice for another member? Maybe they did something nice for you, maybe they made an awesome post, or maybe you're just feeling generous. Well now you can give them the gift of Era Clear! Simply navigate to your page, where you will be able to gift 1 month or 1 year of Era Clear to another poster.

Thread The Ad Reporting Thread
Hi all, Ads are how we're able to keep the lights on here at ResetEra and we've made it our mission to provide you with a pleasant browsing experience by partnering with agencies that focus on delivering good ads. The unfortunate reality of the online ad industry however is that it's really a technological arms race against unscrupulous advertisers, and sometimes those bad, unsavory ads get through. We're not a fan of those types of ads and we know you aren't either.. We make it a high priority to ensure that intrusive ads don't show up on the site and to get them removed as quickly as possible so that you can keep having a great experience. Screenshots and any other information you can offer will also help track these down. Thanks! - The Administration

We would rather people not use the No Lurkers restriction in this thread, and we've said so many times. But developing the tools to prevent that would be a pain in the ass, and we don't want to ban people over it in here, so c'est la vie. We ban people for it if they spam other threads to get around the restriction there.

Welcome to the Gaming Giveaways OT, a magical place where publishers, staff, and members alike gather to donate free stuff to you, the community! This thread is the successor to both the , as well as the longstanding . Thanks to for handling the latter and giving his blessing to this new thread. While members are free to run giveaways in any thread (and often do for their favorite communities) this thread remains an unprecedented nexus of generosity. The vast majority of giveaways are run by members like you (either for fun or to get rid of spare keys) but we also host "official" giveaways including amazing prizes from publishers, developers, and friends of the site. Here are some simple guidelines to follow as you participate: GiftBot is a powerful forum gifting tool developed for our exclusive use here on ResetEra. An initial version of it, based on an externally hosted bot system, was made available near the beginning of our site history. A much more advanced version was integrated directly into our forum software as GiftBot 2.0 in September 2019. You can read all about GiftBot 2.0 and its ever-expanding suite of features in . For your convenience we have also reproduced the initial GiftBot 2.0 announcement below. Note that additional features have been added since the announcement: Near the top right of each GiftBot giveaway, there will be small icons indicating any restrictions that may apply to that specific giveaway. If you mouse over these icons on desktop you'll get a brief tooltip of what each one means. These restrictions are set by the giveaway creator at their sole discretion. For your convenience, we have created this guide explaining in detail what each icon means and how the restriction works: If you are not a developer or publisher, it can sometimes be difficult to locate reliable sources of legitimate product keys! Here are a few places that our members have had consistent success:Thank you to everyone who gives something away! Your generosity is the lifeblood of this very special thread.

Hello new person. It's wonderful to have you as part of our community! All new accounts require both email verification and manual activation -- most accounts registered with an ISP, school, or professional email are approved within a day or two. During times of high activity this process may take longer. Once you have received an email confirming that your account has been activated, you will be ready to start posting. Thread General Guide to ResetEra
This section will outline some of the general guidelines that you should follow to be an outstanding contributor to discussions. Please be respectful when posting in threads. This includes when you post about the topic at hand and especially when you address other members. Do not make unfounded and inflammatory accusations to discredit and/or antagonize your fellow members (such calling them a shill, astroturfer, etc). Do not shame users based on their post count, avatar choice, or what community they belong to. Avoid hurling insults or making disagreements personal. If someone else is causing trouble, report them rather than trying to reciprocate. Do not send hostile or confrontational private messages to other members, especially if such contact is unsolicited. This kind of behavior, if reported, will result in a ban. If a member you have privately contacted indicates that they do not wish to continue the conversation, disengage. If you receive an unwanted and hostile message, report it so that moderators can investigate. What might seem harmless or funny to you can be hurtful to others. Exclusionary behavior, casual or otherwise, is not tolerated. Be mindful at all times that your posts are not only being read by men; you should be considerate of women members and how your words might make them feel. We specifically discourage inappropriate or vulgar objectification of women. You should also remember that we have members from all over the world. Be considerate of all nationalities, cultures, and ethnic groups and avoid making jokes at their expense. Do not mock accents, ethnic names, or languages. Many posters will have preferences and favorites when it comes to video games and the platforms they appear on. It is important to keep in mind that there's nothing wrong with other members having different tastes. Platform holders are multi-billion dollar corporations that do not need cheerleaders or champions to defend them. Do not be bitter if a console you like sells less hardware than the alternatives, if a competing platform enjoys success, or if a title is announced for other platforms. You can have favorites without being obnoxious or disruptive about them. We presently allow members access to a variety of text options including size, color, and font. Unicode and therefore emojis are also fully supported. Please do not abuse these options to make obnoxious or visually distracting replies. Do not make posts that consist of nothing but emojis. You are encouraged to always post as articulately and coherently as possible. When you enter a thread please ensure that you have read beyond the title before you respond. The absolute minimum effort you should put in is to read the original post (OP) in its entirety, along with any threadmarks or staff posts. Asking questions that have already been answered in the OP or threadmarks adds nothing to a discussion. If it is clear that you have not read the thread and missed important information that was appropriately highlighted, you may be subject to moderation. Honest dissent and debate is generally encouraged. However, we do not welcome disingenuous arguments, deliberately ignoring or refusing to acknowledge counterarguments, or arguing for no reason than to upset other members. If your contributions to a discussion are clearly unproductive or lead in circles, it is time to stop. Do not deliberately misrepresent the opinions or concerns of other users. Posters who enter a thread and drop a hot take (especially on a sensitive or controversial topic), only to never follow up, may be moderated for drive by posting. It is also not okay to enter a thread solely to whine about its existence or to deliberately derail it. If you have nothing of substance to contribute to a thread it may be best to avoid it. Trolling, or posting with the intention of provoking a negative response from other members, is prohibited. This is especially true in serious and sensitive topics. Trolling is often disingenuous, but posting your honest opinion can still be trolling if you do so with the intent to inflame. Sincerity is not a perfect shield from consequences. Please also keep in mind that the onus is always on you to make sure that your meaning and intentions are clear when you post. If you make a statement that appears to be inflammatory, moderators will judge it based on the text you have made available. Staff and other members cannot read minds. If you feel that your post or intentions have been misunderstood, you should quickly move to clarify what you really meant. Whenever there is a new and popular third-party game there will usually be 'begging' for ports to other platforms; this trend is repetitive, low on substance, and often an impediment to better discussion. It can often be seen in replies to existing threads, and sometimes even in the creation of new threads. It is not always easy to determine where the line is between harmless speculation and actionable port-begging, but the latter generally refers to comments that are disruptive to an existing discussion, fuel for console wars, or completely without substantive basis. Please do not make such posts or threads. If no platforms have announced for a game, speculation about potential platforms is acceptable. Posting rumors and leaks from external sources is allowed, but we ask that members use common sense and perform due diligence when doing so. Sourcing is important. Do not post rumors and leaks from random blogs or social media accounts with no track record. If you believe that a rumor can't possibly be true, then it is best not to post it at all. Make sure that all rumors and leaks are labeled accordingly and not presented as official information. If you wish to leak information yourself here on ResetEra, you should first contact an Administrator so that it can be vetted by the staff. All evidence you submit will be kept strictly confidential. Please note that you accept sole responsibility for whatever you post, and that knowingly posting incorrect or misleading information will result in a ban. Many members like to experience entertainment without knowing what to expect from it. This is something that everyone should be mindful of, within reason. For example if you are in a thread about a recently released game and want to discuss information that could only have been acquired by playing it, please hide that information behind tags. Do not include such spoilers in thread titles. We offer two different bbcode tags that can be used for this purpose. Examples and syntax are available below. Spoiler sensitivity, however, cannot be allowed to stifle discussion of actual news. If information is publicized as part of promotional material, or otherwise announced through official channels, then it is fair game and not a spoiler. Threads that are meant to include spoiler discussion should be labeled as such in the title. If a thread title indicates that the thread contains spoilers, then you can assume that you do not need to use spoiler tags in that thread unless the spoiler pertains to a different subject altogether. If you don't want to be spoiled, don't enter that thread. From time to time it may be prudent to step away from the keyboard for a few minutes or hours. If a discussion is getting heated to the point where you feel you are at risk of losing your composure or breaking the rules, you should disengage immediately. Always make sure that you are taking care of your health.

Thread General Guide to ResetEra
The power to make threads comes with important responsibility. Here's how you can get a great discussion started. Being the Original Poster (OP) of a thread means that it's up to you to provide the foundation for good discussion. When you create a thread, you should include more than just one or two short sentences; make sure that there is enough substance to sustain an interesting conversation. Write as clearly and articulately as possible. Consider whether you're presenting the subject in a way that will generate good discussion. Make sure you are posting the thread in the correct section of the forum, and use the preview feature to double check your work before posting. After creating your thread, consider adding a Cover Image to spruce up its presentation. Do not make provocative threads only to bail on them after the first post. All of the rules outlined in other parts of this document also apply to thread creation. If you are citing any sources (including articles or videos) while creating a thread, please scrutinize them to make sure that they are reliable ones. Try not to create threads based on random tweets, conspiracy theories, tabloids, or other questionable sources. If you are unfamiliar with a source, take the time to do research and determine whether it is reliable before posting it. If the source you were looking at proves unsuitable, search for an alternative that might be more acceptable. If no reliable source can be found, the premise of the thread itself may need to be reconsidered. If a source is reliable but not well known, make sure that you explain why it should be taken seriously. We reserve the right to lock threads about controversial public figures whose views we may not want to signal boost or provide a platform for. The first part of your thread that anyone will see is the title. Your top priority should be to clearly convey the point and the 'hook' of your thread. Grammar and punctuation are appreciated. Do not use all caps or emojis in titles. Do not post clickbait -- these are titles designed to draw attention by deliberately withholding or misrepresenting relevant information. If you are citing a source, you may want to mention the source in the title. If you need to change a title report your own post and let the staff know what new title you would prefer and why. Moderators may independently change a title to reflect an update or otherwise improve it. It can often be difficult to navigate and keep up with a thread, especially if it is lengthy or moving quickly. Threadmarks empower thread creators with the ability to curate their own threads by selecting posts to add to an index that appears at the top of the thread. Only the thread creator or a staff member can add or remove threadmarks. A responsible thread creator should threadmark important updates and any other posts (funny, insightful, informative, etc) that should not be missed. The option to threadmark a post will appear at the bottom left of the post. A special type of threadmark called 'Staff Posts' can only be used by staff and is reserved for official communications. Please do not create threads that include magazine scans or illegal links to copyrighted material. If you create a thread based on an article, please do not copy and paste the entire article -- use excerpts instead and link to the full text. If you create a thread based on a video that is heavy on content (not merely a trailer or the like) please include a written summary of the video and/or an explanation of why people should watch it. Make sure that external content is credited and not misrepresented. Official Threads (OTs) are some of the most important threads on the site, as they serve as the main hub for discussion about a given subject. Many of them spawn entire communities and find a permanent home in the Hangouts. Anyone can make an OT, but you should first check the to make sure that it has not already been claimed, and sign up to claim it yourself if it is more than three days in advance. Please wait until 72 hours in advance before posting an OT for a new release or event. Members have created incredible and elaborate OTs over the years but everyone started somewhere, and you should not feel pressured to do anything except try your best. You have full artistic freedom over your OT, but we recommend that you include some basic information about the subject (see below) and that any images you use be 800px in width, as those dimensions work well across desktop and mobile. The format for an OT thread title is usually |OT| . You should not post an OT for a game more than 72 hours before launch. A strong gaming OT should contain at least the following:New OTs may generally be posted to and remain in their respective Gaming or EtcetEra Forum sections for one month before being moved to the Hangouts. Whenever there is a new and exciting announcement there tends to be a rush to be the first to make the thread. Keep in mind that when evaluating which thread should prevail, moderators will usually select the one with the most accurate and complete information. It is better to be correct than to be first. Make sure that you include as much and as precise information as possible. If nothing is immediately available you can create the thread and add information later, but by doing this you are making a commitment to keep the thread updated. Duplicate threads will be locked or merged. Given how quickly narratives can form and change around review scores and their averages, review threads require diligent maintenance. The original post should be updated as more information comes in. Do not create a review thread with only the first few reviews and then disappear. If you cannot take on this responsibility, please refrain from making the thread and leave it to someone else. Review threads should include an excerpt of the review, the score (if available), and a link to the source. The Metacritic and/or Opencritic averages are welcome and should also be updated. Video reviews should be incorporated into larger review threads and not given their own threads. Videos that are not official reviews (such as analyses, general impressions, or joke reviews) can be posted in separate threads. LTTP stands for 'Late to the Party' and refers to threads members create when they are catching up on an entertainment product whose release window and original discussion they have completely missed. RTTP stands for 'Return to the Party' and is used when members want to revisit discussion around an old product. These threads are welcome, but please do not create them for something that came out only one or two months ago; in that case use the original OT instead. Event threads should be posted on the day that the event starts. Please include schedules, stream links, and basic information about the event and why it should be of interest. When a thread has been moved to the Hangouts it will usually have built up a community of regulars. These threads can sometimes develop a culture of their own; for this reason we allow members in those threads a little more leeway in regards to banter and similar behavior with each other. Please be aware however that the rules of the forum still apply and that every thread must be welcoming to newcomers. Do not use community threads to snipe at staff or other members. A list thread is a thread that encourages replies that largely or completely take the form of lists. For example: Asking members to rank their favorite characters in media. These threads tend not to generate much, if any, actual discussion or member interaction. Voting threads (threads that solicit ballot-style replies) will usually fall under this category as well, unless a lot of effort is put into them. If you wish to create a voting thread, please contact an Administrator to seek approval beforehand. If you want to discuss an event or product ahead of its release, any thread about it should have some central news, substance, or premise that can anchor the discussion. Threads created without any such content, solely for members to talk about how excited they are, may be subject to a lock. If there are too many active threads about one event or product, hype threads will typically be the first to go. As heartbreaking as these stories can often be, we do not allow threads for personal fundraising campaigns. If we allowed every member with a worthy cause to ask for money here, there would be so many threads that it would become unmanageable. We would not be able to take responsibility for every case, nor could we guarantee that members would not be scammed. By being consistent, we are also being fair to those we've turned down already. These are threads about news or content that is just disgusting and/or shocking, with little potential for discussion other than outrage. Nobody gains anything from these threads and you should not make them. A response thread is a thread created to 'respond' or react to a discussion that is already ongoing in an existing thread. This happens when a member wants to shout over posters in the other thread, or because they believe that their opinion is more important than the other replies. A parody thread is a thread created to parody another thread, either for mockery or as a joke. Please do not do any of this.

Thread General Guide to ResetEra
A collection of policies that have been created to address specific issues or concerns. These policies apply to the entire site. We do not allow behavior or rhetoric that attacks or discriminates against users based on race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion or disability. We also do not tolerate 'slut shaming' including the demeaning of sex workers. This policy extends to support of hate movements, online or offline, that are dedicated to the promotion of the above. We ask that you not use slang or terminology coined by or associated with hate movements. Low effort, inflammatory, or insensitive drive by posting is always unacceptable. However, it is especially inappropriate in serious and sensitive discussions. Threads involving race, gender identity, sexuality, sexual assault or harassment, sexualization of minors, or any marginalized minority groups should be approached with sensitivity. Dismissive or disruptive behavior in these threads will be usually be met with a ban. The following are examples of such behavior:Please note that dismissing, downplaying, or making light of sexual assault allegations will lead to a lengthy ban. Context and intent will matter here, but take care to avoid making inflammatory generalizations that are likely to cause offense. This includes generalizations regarding gender, race, sexuality, nationality, and ethnicity. It can also apply to inflammatory accusations made against large groups or communities of people. Always try to make nuanced points rather than broad and sweeping statements. Defending heinous behaviors (especially those related to bigotry) or supporting individual public figures who are guilty of the same can constitute inflammatory posting, even if the tone of your post is otherwise mild. Note that members found trying to abuse this policy to bait others into bans will instead be moderated themselves. This policy is intended to guard against provocation, not encourage interrogation. Inflammatory points of comparison and false equivalences can needlessly escalate or derail an argument. You should not, for example, equate bigotry with intolerance of bigotry. It is usually best to avoid extreme comparisons in general, such as those involving loss of human life or serious issues like human rights. If you must make such a comparison, please make sure that you're doing so for a very good reason. Health and economic concerns regarding obesity are legitimate topics of discussion. Not all comments at the expense of obesity will be moderated. However, members should not go out of their way to be cruel or dehumanize a person solely because of their physical appearance. If it is determined that such behavior had no other motivation or basis besides looks, a ban will be issued. Inflammatory generalizations on this subject are not welcome. On this site our members include video game enthusiasts, industry professionals, and members of the press. All members deserve certain courtesies. Do not engage in personal attacks or insults against other users. It is perfectly fine to challenge a poster in a civil and constructive manner, but ad hominem should be avoided and can get you banned depending on the situation. This policy extends to game developers as well. While it may be frustrating that a game did not meet your expectations, it is not constructive to attack developers in personal terms or claim that they are lazy. This kind of vitriol is not only disrespectful but has a negative effect on discussion. When it comes to journalists covering the video game industry, critique of their work is welcome and often important. However, personal attacks and unsupported accusations or conspiracy theories do not generate good discussion. Please also avoid dismissing or vilifying entire outlets for petty reasons. Many of our members browse from work or school, in settings where the wrong image on screen can have potentially serious consequences. As a result, content that is 'Not Safe For Work' is not allowed on this site. Do not post any material that would be too explicit to be aired on network television. Material that excessively highlights or focuses on sexual or secondary sexual characteristics should also be avoided. Try to be tasteful and considerate if the option exists. You are encouraged to make use of spoiler tags or off-site links to hide images or other material that you believe may be borderline. These spoiler tags should be clearly marked as 'NSFW' so that other users know what to expect. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the staff beforehand. Do not post images, artwork, figurines, or any other material, no matter how stylized or fictional, which clearly fetishizes or sexualizes characters under the age of 18. Do not attempt to rationalize violence against children, disciplinary or otherwise. Advocating for or defending any kind of child abuse is not tolerated. Your own upbringing is not relevant to this policy. Attempting to dismiss or condone the sexualization of minors, fictional or otherwise, will lead to a lengthy ban. We do not tolerate any pedantry (such as nitpicking over definitions) on this topic. As a general measuring stick, if a game is it is unlikely to be appropriate here. Games that Valve hides on Steam by default due to "adult only sexual content" are also explicitly prohibited. Do not discuss these games or create threads about them. Other games will only be considered for this list if the staff receives a direct complaint about their contents. After review, the following games have also been prohibited: We do not allow advocacy of violence, explicit or otherwise. This policy can encompass posts with a wide range of severity, depending on the context and contents of the post. The penalty for breaking this rule can therefore vary greatly, all the way up to a permanent ban. Advocating murder will always result in a permanent ban. While context will be taken into account, we do not welcome celebration or cheering for the death of public figures. Members that appear to be using an obituary thread as an opportunity to post vitriol will be moderated. There will be no shortage of opportunities to discuss the legacy of a public figure in other, later, threads. We simply do not want to celebrate death. Threads about the Israel/Palestine conflict are some of the most contentious and difficult to moderate. While we have tried being more hands off in the past, these threads have tended to escalate out of control when they are not tightly moderated. As a result, we now enforce four primary rules to keep these threads as civil as possible. Encouraging piracy, admitting to piracy, threatening to commit piracy, and linking to piracy websites is strictly prohibited. This policy also applies to links to torrents, direct downloads, pirated reproduction cartridges, streams of pirated content, and unauthorized releases of any kind. More information on this policy and DMCA takedowns is available in our terms of service. Do not embed copyrighted material such as magazine scans. Copying and pasting entire articles or reports for redistribution is also prohibited. While software piracy is never acceptable, emulation is legal and discussions about it are welcome. As long as a hack can be used for legitimate homebrew and/or legal emulation it can be discussed here, and those discussions should not be derailed by piracy concerns. Do not enter a thread about homebrew or emulation and conflate the subject with piracy. You will be held responsible for what you post, especially when you are offering advice for another member to follow. Advice that is illegal or harmful will result in a ban. Consider all the possible consequences if your advice were to actually be put into action. Do not misrepresent your qualifications. The more serious the subject, the more strictly this will be enforced. Do not create threads featuring links to products or services that you have a direct involvement in. Members are instead welcome and encouraged to post in already existing threads about a product or service that they are involved in (including links that are specifically relevant to the thread) so that they may engage with the community. If you are involved in a product or service that you are linking, please disclose that fact upfront. Spam of any kind is not allowed. This can include malware and phishing content, referral links, and abuse of the reply or private message system. Do not send unsolicited messages promoting any product, service, or website to other members. We have zero tolerance for doxxing, which refers to publishing private information about individuals (address, place of work, private phone, etc) as a means of retribution or to encourage harassment. Doing this will likely result in a permanent ban. Encouraging others to do this will also result in a ban. We have no interest in hosting discussions that fuel drama between our community and others. This sort of metacommentary tends to be petty and unproductive. Please do not derail threads with drama about other forums and websites, do not encourage comparisons or competition with other forums, and do not create threads about them either. Members are highly discouraged from pursuing other members off the site, and staff will generally not adjudicate disputes that happen offsite. Do not post offsite material that you suspect to be from other members, whether from social media or elsewhere, in order to attack or embarrass them. If you believe such material is of serious concern, bring it to the attention of the staff through the appropriate channels described below. We do not monitor offsite activity and will not usually action an account for solely offsite behavior. However, there are some circumstances where a member's actions offsite can lead to consequences here. This will only happen if the accuracy of the evidence, and the member's involvement, are verified to our satisfaction. If we are made aware of offsite material that directly sheds light on an infraction or malicious activity on this site, that context will be taken into consideration. In extremely rare cases, information is uncovered that makes a member's presence itself disruptive or potentially harmful to others -- this can result in account closure. If you wish to provide information to staff that you believe is relevant to this policy, you must submit it directly so that its authenticity can be verified and appropriate action taken. You can do this via the form, by reporting the member in question, or by sending a private message to an Administrator. Do not post the material on the forum.

Thread General Guide to ResetEra
Various and sundry. Members are able to select both an avatar (uploaded under ) and a Cover Image for their profile (uploaded directly on their profile page). These images must be compliant with our ToS and NSFW policies. Do not use images with inflammatory or otherwise inappropriate content. Inappropriate avatars and covers will be removed by the staff, and in extreme circumstances bans may be issued. For best visual results, avatars should be at least 400x400 and Cover Images should be at least 600x1000 in dimension. If you need help getting an image customized, the folks in the thread may be willing to assist. While browsing the forum you may notice that some users have tags below their usernames. Although uncommon, tags are awarded by staff to users for a variety of reasons. They will most often be offered to commemorate memorable moments in the site's history. In some cases, tags are awarded as prizes in contests. Tags are never applied with the intent to shame. Members are always contacted about any tag they are given, and they can request its removal at any time. The staff also reserves the right to remove a tag for any reason. Members with verified accounts will have a tag below their name which describes their role in the industry. These tags can be as vague or as specific as they want. Outside of the verification program, we do not grant tags to members by request. Name change requests are submitted directly through your account page. Simply navigate to where you will find a button marked 'change' next to your current username. Members are allowed up to two lifetime username changes. Beyond that, urgent name change requests must be made through the form found at the bottom of the site. A more detailed guide is . This bbcode tag allows posters to restrict information to thread participants only. Any text within the tags will be automatically revealed to members who have posted at least one message in the thread. Everyone else will instead see a notice that says "You need to reply to this in order to see this content." An example and syntax are available below. This feature is most commonly used to conceal matchmaking information, Discord invites, or giveaway codes. While members often find it useful to filter out guests and lurkers, greater caution is always advised when sharing truly sensitive or personal information. Your feedback is important; unless we experience a technical issue ourselves, the only way we will know about it is if members report it. Towards that end, you should look for the latest in the section. Our team will periodically check this thread for bugs to investigate or new features to consider for future development. Note that our tech staff and moderation team are separate and that sending bug reports to the latter will not help. Please be polite and patient when you report a problem. Advertisements help fund the site and pay for our expenses. Without them, we would not be able to remain online. However, it is important to us that our ads do not unduly obstruct your browsing experience. If you encounter pop-ups, redirects, or other intrusive advertising, there should be a blue 'Report Ad' link right under them which can be used to directly alert our partners. If the problems persist or seem to be part of a bad outbreak, please let us know in the thread. Any details you provide will be very helpful in tracking down the source. An ideal report will include the ad link, screenshots, which country or region you are browsing from, and whether you are on desktop or mobile. Please note that the ad agency we are partnered with regularly monitors that thread even though they do not post in it. We do generally grant requests for bans or account deletions. If you request a ban and your account is in good standing, you will be able to email us at any time if you wish to return. If your account has a history of infractions, we do not guarantee that you will be allowed to change your mind. You can request bans of any length, all the way up to permanent. Account deletions are always permanent and cannot be reversed without difficulty. For this reason we do not recommend deletions. Please let us know if you are making your request due to a privacy concern; we may be able to provide additional assistance. If you wish to request a ban or account deletion, simply use the form while logged into your account. We do allow members to post threads recruiting other members for research projects. However, every project must be individually approved by the staff, and certain criteria must be met to receive approval. Research projects can include on and off-site surveys, written/audio/video interviews, and focus groups. ConditionsMembers must include the following disclaimer in the first post of a research thread: This thread has been posted with the approval of site staff. Research participants should note that ResetEra is not able to verify or enforce payment of participation incentives such as gift cards, free games, or other monetary compensation. For more information or to submit a research project for approval, please contact .

Thread General Guide to ResetEra
Everything you need to know about creating and keeping an account on ResetEra. Free or disposable email providers are not accepted for registration -- this measure is our best tool to prevent trolls or banned members from creating multiple accounts. All new accounts also undergo manual screening before activation. Most accounts registered with an ISP, school, or professional email are approved within a few days. Accounts registered via proxies, or with email domains that have no site attached, may stay in queue for much longer pending further investigation. The waiting period may be extended for everyone during periods of high activity. Registration also requires acceptance of our and . If you have any questions concerning the status of your account, please reach out to us via the contact form found at the bottom of the site. If your account is rejected a reason will generally be provided. Most rejections occur because the email provider was judged to be invalid or otherwise suspicious. You are welcome to register again with a different email. The username of the rejected account may still be considered taken and unavailable -- if you need help reclaiming it feel free to contact us. Rejected accounts are deleted periodically to vacate their usernames. Once your account is activated, you can immediately begin posting replies. In order to discourage elitism, no publicly visible distinction is made between new members and longtime veterans. However, accounts that have less than 300 posts and/or joined less than 90 days ago may be subject to stricter moderation, as we have to be on the lookout for troll accounts and bad faith posters. This 'junior phase' is your chance to settle in, get a feel for the forum, and demonstrate your capacity for civil discourse. Please do not try to push any limits until you are sure where the lines are. Do not try to inflate your post count with spam or low quality posts. New members are not able to create threads from the outset -- this is a privilege that must be earned. In order to post new threads your account will need to be at least 30 days old and have at least 100 posts. Once these two conditions are met, your account will be automatically granted its new permissions. If you have a great idea for a thread but do not yet have privileges, another member may be willing to post it on your behalf if you ask for help. Each user is allowed only one account. If you are found to have created multiple accounts out of benign misunderstanding, you will generally be asked to pick one and the others will be closed. If you are found to have created multiple accounts in bad faith, such as for ban evasion or trolling, all of your accounts will be subject to an immediate permanent ban. Account sharing is similarly prohibited and will be dealt with in the same way. For professionals (including but not limited to the press or entertainment industries) with insights that may be of interest to our community, we offer a program. A verified account is easily identifiable by a spiffy "Verified" tag that appears on your profile and on every post that you make. This is, of course, completely optional, but many members in the program find it helpful to not have to explain who they are and why their professional experience is relevant to a given discussion. Please check the link for more information, including on how to get verified yourself.

Thread General Guide to ResetEra
An explanation of the roles and responsibilities of our staff, as well as our approach to moderation in general. Our international staff is made up of dedicated individuals spread across five continents, with wildly diverse backgrounds and interests. Women, people of color, LGBTQ, and religious minorities are all well represented on our team. That team consists entirely of volunteers drawn from the community they seek to serve. A comprehensive is available to the public and updated regularly. The team processes hundreds of reports daily, and every one of those reports is handled by multiple moderators. We also receive dozens of emails and private messages, and manually approve dozens of new registrations each day. This work is endless, stressful, and often thankless. Many staff members put in countless hours each week towards maintaining the forum; this is a responsibility they take on because they care deeply about the community and want it to be the best that it can be. It is important to note that we take a team approach to moderation, and no single moderator will ever be solely responsible for a given decision. All moderator actions are automatically logged and visible to the rest of the team; it is therefore impossible for an individual member of staff to go rogue. Every action is discussed as a team and signed off on by multiple staff before it is carried out. The diversity of our team is a strength -- we always seek insight on any given issue from the staff members who know the most about it. Like all members, individual staff have strong opinions on any number of topics and are free to express those opinions as posters. Those opinions and posts are their own and do not represent official policy. Moderator actions are always driven by consensus from multiple staff and by our written guidelines and policies. Official staff communications will be marked as such. These are the volunteers charged with enforcing our mission statement and our policies. They are on the front lines when it comes to keeping the peace on the forums. Moderators process the bulk of the reports, provide guidance through written warnings, and try to make contributions as posters along the way. Many were pillars in the community even before they became staff. Without their efforts, there would not be a community to inhabit the site. The administration is responsible for keeping the site healthy and operational in all areas. This means coordinating with tech staff on maintenance and new features, verifying industry members, screening new registrations, and responding to emails. Administrators also lead internal policy discussions and are often called upon to provide guidance to the moderation team. Certain administrators (designated as "Mod Captains" on the roster) are specifically in charge of managing the moderation team. These Mod Captains are required to approve any ban over 2 weeks in duration. They also process appeals and are available to answer any questions you might have about moderation. We aim to articulate our policies and expectations as clearly as possible, in this document and in all our official communications. Whenever a user is warned or banned for a post, the reason is provided in a public banner attached to that post. In addition to ensuring transparency and accountability, these banners are helpful for other members to understand where the lines are and what our rationale is. Every staff member is expected to follow the same rules as the rest of the forum. Due to our heavy workload, a large moderation team is required to ensure timely coverage around the clock. The size of the team can make it very challenging to ensure consistent moderation. To address this, we have Mod Captains and internal moderation guidelines based on precedent and publicly available policy. Some flexibility is required to account for new or unexpected circumstances. Our team moderates to the spirit of the rules and our mission statement. Multiple factors are taken into account before coming to a decision. We weigh past infractions, post history, and the severity of the post(s) when determining penalties. We also consider whether a member doubled down on their behavior. Staff members are required to avoid any involvement in moderating disputes that they have personally taken part in. This means that a moderator will never moderate a user for an argument between the two. Instead, any relevant reports are handled independently by other moderators on the team. We do our utmost to ensure that moderation is impartial, objective, and not driven by emotion. On the other hand, when it comes to community threads that might each have a unique culture, we always seek to consult staff members who are familiar with that community in order to avoid potential misunderstandings. Please bear in mind that due to the highly active and fast paced nature of discussion on ResetEra, it is impossible for our staff to be everywhere. Even if you notice staff presence within a thread, there is no guarantee that they have read every single post before or after their own. Do not assume that moderators are ignoring rule violations. If you see an issue, report it. The fastest way to bring something to the attention of the staff is to report it. All reports go into a single queue visible to the entire moderation team. You can report posts, profiles, and private messages. If you report a private conversation, moderators will be able to join that conversation in order to get the full context. Please remember that we process hundreds of reports daily and that it may take some time to get to yours. The most common use of the report system is to report posts that are believed to be breaking the rules. However, you can also report your own post if you need a thread locked, a thread title changed, a double post deleted, etc. You can report a message by clicking the button on the bottom left of the message. All reports are read and investigated, but there are some steps that you can take to make things easier for the staff. To ensure your report is processed as quickly as possible, please focus on describing exactly what is wrong with the post and why it requires staff attention. Be clear about what rule has been broken, if any. Do not be flippant or sarcastic, and do not assume that staff will understand your argument unless it is spelled out. The moderators available at any given time might not always be familiar with a particular subject, the history of the posters involved, or the dynamics in a specific community. Make sure you include any and all relevant context in your report. Please do not abuse the report system by submitting frivolous or rude reports. Your reports should always be polite and constructive. You may send follow-up reports about the same post, but do not keep reporting a post just to protest a decision. Misuse of the report system can result in a warning or a ban. Do not make public posts threatening to report other members -- either report them or don't. When the staff needs to directly provide guidance in a thread, a staff post will be made. These posts will be marked as 'OFFICIAL STAFF COMMUNICATION' and have been designed to be highly visible. Please see the example below. Staff posts are often threadmarked if they contain guidance that is relevant to the thread as a whole. In such cases, the title will also be adjusted to indicate that a staff post has been made. Ignoring this guidance can lead to a warning or a ban. We recommend that you always check for the ‘Staff Posts’ button at the top of any thread you enter; this button will only appear if a staff post has been threadmarked. It is technically possible for ordinary members to use the staff post template -- this was necessary to allow staff posts to be quotable. However, you should not take advantage of this. Altering a staff post or creating a fake one, even as a joke, will result in a ban. The majority of our members will never break a rule or face moderation action. However, when such action is required, there are a range of punitive measures that might be used. Warnings are applied when a user needs guidance and/or has committed a minor infraction -- these are situations where a ban is deemed unnecessary. All infractions, including warnings, are logged for future reference by the moderation team. For transparency, a public banner will be added to the offending post explaining the warning. Some warnings will contain a more detailed message for the offending member, to ensure that they understand why they are being warned and how they can avoid problems in the future. You must manually acknowledge a warning before you are able to post again. Bans are used for more serious infractions, when a warning is ignored, or for a recurring pattern of misbehavior. As with warnings, bans are logged and public banners are applied to the offending post. The length of the ban depends on the severity of the infraction as well as the member's record. The more infractions a member has, the longer their next ban is likely to be. Serious infractions, such as those related to bigotry, are monitored and tracked separately from other bans. In cases where we determine that a member is either unable or unwilling to correct their behavior, a permanent ban will be issued. When a long ban is requested, or when the team is initially unsure how long a ban should be, it will be marked as 'Duration Pending' on the public banner. These bans are reviewed by the Mod Captains, who determine the final length. Thread creation privileges may be revoked or suspended if a member creates low quality threads. Low quality threads include threads that are poorly sourced, have obvious clickbait titles, are created to troll members or staff, or otherwise fail to provide an OP that encourages good discussion. Thread creation privileges are either revoked permanently or for a 6 month period, after which you can request them back by contacting the staff. This is sometimes informally referred to as a 'junioring'. You can appeal a ban by clicking the link at the bottom of the site (accessible while banned). We recommend that you use the form while logged in so that we can verify that it is you. If you'd prefer to be contacted at a different email than the one you registered with, please mention that in your message. Include all relevant context and information, and be polite and constructive while making your case. Taking an aggressive tone or sending insults to staff will not be rewarded, and in fact may lead to a more severe penalty up to and including a permanent ban. We receive a large number of emails each day and do not guarantee a response to all of them. Ban appeals are reviewed independently by the Mod Captains. Backseat moderation is when members take it upon themselves to act as if they are in charge of moderation, such as by trying to enforce rules themselves, or by publicly insisting on what kind of moderation needs to happen. Please do not do this. This behavior often leads to thread derailment and user arguments; it is also discourteous to the staff. The report system is always available if you want to bring your concerns to the attention of the team. If you have questions about moderation, feel free to use the contact form or reach out to the Mod Captains directly. What you should never do is tag individual staff members in a thread while asking them to carry out some form of moderation, particularly punitive action against other members. This is obnoxious and unnecessary and will result in penalties for you. There may be times when you disagree with a moderator action or lack thereof. Your feedback and criticism is welcome and encouraged, so long as it is constructive, politely presented, and offered through appropriate channels like the contact form or private messages. If you post complaints about moderation in a public thread, you will be responsible for any ensuing derailment. If your words cross the line into hostility or outright attacks on staff, you will be banned for modwhining. Please be aware that our volunteer staff are never required to passively receive abuse or invective. This applies to both public and private forms of communication, including private messages and reports.

Thread We need to talk about responding to Trans related issues
The ban in question involves the abuse of a personal relationship between the poster in question and a former moderator. This is now a private matter and not for public discussion. It has nothing to do with the valid feedback in the rest of the post.

Thread Terminator: Dark Fate || Review Thread
I liked it. It's not as good as the originals, obviously, but it gets the tone right, which none of the other Terminator sequels have done. The future scenes weren't very good and while I liked the Rev-9 overall, the way it goes out is weak. Part of what made beating the T-800 and T-1000 satisfying was that it was done with realistic, modern day means (hydraulic press, molten steel). When you need to bring in future bullshit it feels like a cop out. They basically recycled Terminator 3's climax for that. Overall I think the film deserves a sequel and I would be pleased to watch one.

Thread This thread has run its course...
This turn of phrase is usually used when a discussion is going in circles and is no longer bringing anything new to the table (except perhaps more bitterness between members), or when a discussion has gone off the rails and degraded to a point where it has become unproductive and ugly. Unfortunately, threads that reach that point do not always die off on their own. Left untouched, they can simply keep on going around and around. Determining where the line is will always be somewhat subjective, but making that call is an essential part of moderation and I believe the staff is generally good about doing so. This is what sets a traditional forum format apart from something like Reddit where the "free market" dynamic more frequently prevails.

It'll happen on any ad-supported site if you use it long enough; unfortunately the online ad industry is an endless arms race between bad ad suppliers and the ad networks trying to keep the content clean. It's not like the networks (or us) get paid better for these ads when they slip through, so we have no incentive to allow it. Just the opposite as it pisses off users and makes more work for us. You can report these ads in our which is monitored by our ad network.

You sent that PM less than three hours ago, at a time when we are dealing with an unusually large number of reports. It's very disappointing that you would escalate in this manner just because you weren't catered to immediately. If you had waited for B-Dubs to reply, he would have told you that he had already been working on a potential official releases thread and was trying to iron out the kinks before launching it. After receiving your message, he promptly brought the issue to the attention of the rest of the staff, and we were actively discussing the best way to get this done -- right up until you decided to exacerbate the situation with insults and personal attacks. It's not clear what you believed you would achieve with this, but let the record show that this is not how you get what you want.

Thor 1 needs to be viewed through the lens of Branaugh's Shakespeare adaptations (which is what he was chiefly renowned for). He basically treats it like a Shakespearean tragedy with Loki as the main character. The rest is competent dressing. Viewed through that lens, I still find Thor 1 to be one of the more unique and enjoyable entries in the MCU. Loki in that film is still one of the best villains in any comic adaptation. I would argue that Branaugh's treatment of Loki is a huge part of what made Avengers 1 work as well as it did. Thor 1's importance to the success of the MCU should not be underestimated.

Thread Microsoft's "PlayFab Party" service will offer cross-platform chat and matchmaking features to devs. Being demoed on Nintendo Switch hardware at GDC.
So I swung by the Microsoft booth at GDC today. There, nestled among Xbox Ones and various tablets, I spotted something that I wasn't expecting to see: Nintendo Switch hardware. When I asked the representatives what this was all about, I was surprised to learn that it's part of a suite of features called PlayFab Party that Microsoft with zero fanfare. They explained to me that this was a service they were hoping to sell to developers to be incorporated into the games themselves. This was initially developed as a voice-to-text accessibility feature for Xbox, but they later expanded the scope to make cross-platform a big part of it. The package will include leaderboards, matchmaking, party, and server/lobby support. The voice-to-text feature was available to test and even on the noisy show floor it worked pretty well. I was told that the way accounts are handled is that you will have a PlayFab ID which you will be prompted to tie to an account(s) from other platforms. At launch only Xbox Live accounts can be linked, but they specifically mentioned that Steam support was in the works along with possibly others. It is not part of Xbox Live and Xbox Live is not intended to be a requirement. PlayFab Party will offer SDKs for Xbox, Windows, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. I asked about the Switch compatibility and was told that when Microsoft pitched it to them, Nintendo was extremely enthusiastic and very supportive. Microsoft was "super happy" with the negotiations. When I asked about possible PlayStation compatibility, I was told that Microsoft wants it on PlayStation but that those talks are "further behind." They cited inter-company politics as the reason for the holdup. Just because I promised I'd mention him, shout out to

Thread New Feature: Image Options for ResetEra 2.0!
A lot of users like to browse the site using cellular connections and prefer to conserve mobile data as much as possible; the freedom to hide images, avatars, and embedded media can therefore be vital. Many users also like to browse the site at work or in other settings where garish visual elements can draw unwanted attention. We have been hard at work to address these needs ever since the launch of our 2.0 redesign. Our goal: To not only match but significantly exceed the features that were available on the old site design. We believe that goal has finally been met. "Image and media options" or "Image options" for short are now available through your user settings, and can also be directly accessed on the left side navigation bar. When visual elements are hidden, a "Reveal hidden" button will also appear for members so that they can temporarily override their settings and load everything on that page. For the very first time we are pleased to also offer limited image option features to guests and lurkers with no accounts. If you are browsing as a guest, you'll find that the sidebar will have a simple on/off toggle to show or hide all media, avatars, images, and covers. This setting is saved on a per-browser basis. You no longer need an account to browse the way you want. One press of a button will render the site as safe for work as we can possibly make it, and friendlier to your data plan than it has ever been before. This next-generation version of Image Options was always going to need more member choices than ever before. ResetEra 2.0 itself incorporates a lot of new visual elements, including avatars on the thread list and the covers feature for profiles and threads. Fully reflecting this new design, members can now independently toggle images, embedded media, covers, avatars on the thread list, and avatars inside threads. Keep what you want, hide what you don't want. Whether you're trying to stay discreet at work or just want to conserve your data plan, there should now be a configuration that works for you. This is a brand new feature that we are especially proud to provide! When you choose to hide images and embedded media, these items will not simply be erased and left completely out of your reach. Instead, they will now each be replaced with a "Show Image" or "Show media" prompt which will allow you to individually load single items that you are especially curious about. Never again will you have to change your settings just to find out what everyone is reacting to in that one post. Members will often seek different image settings on different devices, as needs and circumstances might vary wildly. In consideration of this, we now allow you to save two sets of preferences: one for cellular connections and one for all other types of connections. As a returning feature from the Image Options on the old ResetEra 1.5, each separate device you use will be logged and saved and viewable on the Image Options page. There you will be able to choose which set of preferences (cellular or other) that you want each device to abide by. But that's not all! There is a reason we have labeled these the way we have... When a mobile device is logged in Image Options, you will now see an option called "Automatic" when deciding which set of preferences to use. Thanks to certain prototype technologies that we have incorporated, this feature will detect when your mobile device is using precious cellular data and automatically implement your "Cellular Connection" preferences. When other connection types are used (like WiFi) it will automatically apply your "Other Connection" preferences instead. This is a feature designed for maximum efficiency in data conservation. On a single device you will automatically shift from one set of preferences to the other as you drift on and off of your cellular data, all without having to lift a finger or even spare a thought. Please note that this feature is not yet supported by the Safari browser. It utilizes experimental third party technologies and may pick up false positives or demonstrate other buggy behavior that we will not be able to fix ourselves. It is, of course, completely optional. Included in all of this is a minor cosmetic update: When avatars are hidden, either on the thread list or inside threads, they will now be replaced with a new "generic avatar" that has been designed just for us. This feature replaces the old option, cobbled together in the immediate aftermath of the 2.0 launch, which completely removed avatars from the thread list altogether. The problem with that solution was that actual functionality was lost, especially on mobile where avatars are used to check the OP of a thread on the thread list. Avatars also also used to denote threads you have already posted in. All of that is now preserved, even when you choose to disable avatars. This new avatar design will also replace the old "first letter" defaults that came bundled with the core software. Altogether this is the most advanced set of image options found on any traditional forum. Our gift to you. Thank you for your support!

We did some digging and we found that, for whatever reason, PayPal decided that your original subscription/payment should renew on the 23rd instead of the 18th (the day you originally signed up for it). I have no idea why this is the case. We have cancelled that original recurring payment plan to avoid you getting charged again on the 23rd. The new subscription/payment plan you started looks like it is set to renew next year on the correct day, so you should be all good now. Thanks for the report: This should now be fixed!

The original implementation of Bookmarks did not scale well to a forum of this size and contributed to the serious performance issues we saw in the early days. The good news is that the latest version of Xenforo (2.1) has its own native Bookmarks function integrated into the core software. The bad news is that Xenforo 2.1 is not yet stable enough for us to switch over and probably will not be for at least 6 months to a year. This will be a major undertaking when it happens. It is inevitable that Bookmarks will return when we upgrade the core software again, but that upgrade will not be for a while.

The line you quoted was about the thread list, not about OP banners. Your understanding is not correct. As many of you have noticed, the filter options are still available but will now default to off! We've never stopped looking at this actually. It's difficult because from the feedback some people really like it as is, and some people really don't. One possibility we've looked at is using the avatars to help indicate read/unread (making them fade when read) but this will cause issues for those who choose to hide avatars on the thread list. Long story short, it's definitely not a settled issue.

Thread ResetEra 2.0 New Features Guide
This is an updated list from our original announcement thread, highlighting some of our favorite new features in ResetEra 2.0. Believe it or not, this list might still not be complete! There are features here that you have been demanding for a long time, and features you might never have even imagined. We hope that you will enjoy them as much as we do. This is a feature that you've been asking for almost since the launch of the forum, and we're finally delighted to provide it. ResetEra 2.0 will allow you to easily ignore any thread by clicking the Ignore button in the top right corner. That thread will then disappear from your thread list. If you accidentally ignore a thread or otherwise want to remove a thread from your ignore list, don't worry! Simply navigate to the bottom of the thread list and click "Show ignored content" to reveal the threads you've ignored. The long conflict between supporters of 50 posts per page and 100 posts per page is officially over. No longer will you be restricted to such a limited, binary choice. With ResetEra 2.0 we are now introducing the option to set any custom value you want between 50 and 100 posts / threads per page. Simply check your account preferences and enter whatever number you desire. Do you want to have 75 posts per page? There's nothing stopping you now! 62 threads per page? Why not! 51 threads per page and 83 posts per page? You do you! Please note that we're leaving the default untouched at 50 posts per page and 40 threads per page. Have you ever had a nice post written up, only to accidentally navigate away from the page, wiping away all your hard work? If so then this one is for you: ResetEra 2.0 includes a draft feature in the message editor allowing you to save your work for later. To use this feature simply click the floppy disk icon and select "Save draft" to make sure your work is protected. If you want to delete a draft simply select "Delete draft" from the same dropdown and the reply box will be empty when you next reload the page. At the bottom of every thread (beneath the reply box) you will now be able to peruse a list of threads covering similar topics, making it easier to discover other content that might be of interest to you. Additionally, when creating a new thread, you will be shown a list of similar threads that already exist. This should help members avoid posting duplicate threads for news or topics that have already been covered. Here is a feature that just seems obvious in hindsight. Easily available via top navigation or sidebar navigation, the Trending page presents an automated selection of the hottest threads across all of ResetEra 2.0 at any given moment in time. If you pop open the right sidebar on the Trending page, you will find a convenient list of filters for each forum section to help you sort through and discover the content that interests you the most. Should Trending prove to be popular we may find ways in the future to expand and improve this feature further. Large, fast moving threads are often difficult to navigate and keep up with. Great posts can get lost in the shuffle, important updates can be missed, and Staff Posts can be difficult to find and refer to unless the post number is edited into the title. Threadmarks empowers thread creators with the ability to curate their own threads by selecting posts to be added to an index that will appear at the top of the thread. Thread creators will be able to sort Threadmarks into two categories: The default Threadmarks category (intended for updates) and a Highlights category (for other great or notable posts in the thread). A third category, Staff Posts, is available to staff only and will be used whenever there is a risk of a Staff Post going unnoticed. When entering a large thread, be sure to check first whether the Staff Posts index is present at the top! Not to be confused with Threadmarks, Bookmarks allows you to save any individual posts and threads that you might want to come back to in the future. If you come across content that is particularly helpful, insightful or entertaining, you can now save that post or thread directly to your forum account. These Bookmarks become instantly available in a convenient drop down tab. Many of you have asked for more embed support for popular services like Vimeo. We've gone even further: ResetEra 2.0 will support embeds for 24 different services including podcasts, audio, crowdfunding, and more. You can check out the full list of supported embeds below. There should be something for everyone! This is a particularly fun feature which we're very pleased to be able to offer. When ResetEra 2.0 goes live and the migration is complete, members will be able to upload cover images to personalize their profile pages. Thread creators will also be able to upload and select covers for individual threads as well! These uploads have a recommended resolution of at least 600x1000 and will be limited to 250kb (easily achieved with reasonable jpg compression).Covers will be moderated like any other images or avatars. Please note that we will be monitoring the effect of this feature on site performance, and may make future adjustments as necessary. That's right, red text no longer has to be reserved for mods! From now on official communications (except mod edits) will be made using Staff Post tags. Not only does this free up red text for members, it's also impossible to accidentally misuse. It is theoretically possible for members to deliberately abuse these: This was necessary to make sure that staff posts remain quotable. However, as with red text before, any attempt to impersonate a moderator with these tags will be met with a long ban. Limitations with the new core software required us to rework how gender is displayed. While this was tricky to do, it allowed us to make another change in the process. We were able to implement the option for users to set their gender as non-binary! We've had multiple requests for this feature since launch, and we're very pleased that we were able to provide it.

Thread Welcome to ResetEra 2.0! Report bugs here
Welcome to 2.0! Last month we to a wonderful response from you, the community. Your positive words and encouragement really motivated us to do our best, and so for the past 22 days we have been talking with you guys in the beta thread, gathering your feedback, and implementing as many requests as we could. The result has made this a better site. We have enjoyed our conversations with you all and would like to thank everyone who took the time to try the beta and offer their impressions. For those of you who might be wondering what has changed, here is a partial changelog from the beta. This list covers only features and design; we have omitted the many bug fixes: If you did not get a chance to study the list of new features from the old announcement thread, please check out the updated to learn all about Threadmarks, Cover Images, and other features that can revolutionize how you post and browse. As explained in our original announcement, ResetEra 2.0 has been built upon next generation forum software in Xenforo 2.0. The older designs (Light/Dark/Day/Night) were built upon the older Xenforo 1.5. This is an upgrade that needed to happen to ensure that the base software will continue to receive support. We have poured every resource we had, and some we had to borrow, into making this new design the best we could. We would at this time like to thank our amazing contractors, whose labors helped turn dreams into reality. They have been more than consummate professionals; they adopted our ambitious goals and our passion as their own. These guys really went above and beyond to meet our requests. A great deal of credit is due to and , whose long technical labors made all of this possible. Deltaplus just spent the last fourteen hours migrating the database into the new software and he has done an incredible job as usual. You can read for a detailed explanation of what this entailed and where certain complications arose. Very special thanks must also go out to , who spent hours upon hours of her time poring over details and brainstorming new ideas, and , whose leadership of our volunteer Front End team laid the groundwork for everything good in 2.0. Both of them have been with us from the very beginning, and they have each been driving forces behind many of our biggest projects. Now, with the release of 2.0, they have decided to retire and ride off into the sunset with our eternal admiration and thanks. Sirpopopop is a hero who built the legacy themes with a small skeleton crew in the frantic days leading up to our launch just over a year ago. Emily will be long remembered for shaping everything from policy to design; she will remain a great friend and source of wisdom even as she turns her focus to her family. I can't emphasize it enough: A lot of awesome people really poured their hearts and souls into making this happen. Looking to the future, there are many more features we would like to introduce which did not make the cut for launch, some of which are very cool indeed. We will continue to investigate possible ways to improve the navigation options. This is a foundation upon which we can build for years to come. Known issues we're currently tracking:

We have reduced the height of the scrolling top bar on both desktop and mobile. We have also toned down its drop shadow. Desktop users can now directly access their Bookmarks list on the side navigation. For whatever reason Xenforo 2.0 is no longer natively equipped to display gender on the profile pop-up. It took some doing, but we were able to add this ourselves. While we were at it, we also added a "Non-Binary" gender option.

We've added an indicator for the OP of a thread. This time it will appear as a diagonal ribbon across the corner of their avatar. The ribbon only appears on the OP's replies, not on the first post itself. We also removed the "green dot" online status indicator, added subforums to the mobile main page, and adjusted some of the vertical spacing on the mobile view.

This is something we will investigate post-launch. If we can do it, I think it would have to be optional. Love it or hate it, unicode is now close to a universal standard. Refusing to adopt unicode over the long term carries real security risks. It really isn't optional. There are user-side solutions that might help you filter them out, but just about every modern website today will support unicode (and therefore emojis).

It sounds like the Quick Jump navigation might be more to your preference; there is no animation. I'm not sure if you're going off of the videos or the actual beta, but we did change the purples even on light theme. I don't really agree that the new one is "neon." That was changed weeks ago.

Although it shares the same icon, the burger button on the sidebar is not the same button you use to open the sidebar. It's meant to correspond to the nav list, versus the profile, conversations, or alerts.

Bringing over the legacy themes is unfortunately not possible. They're incompatible with the core software. Sorry. For several reasons we won't be able to replicate the old bar exactly. It be possible to put the new bar at the bottom on mobile, but for such a drastic change we would want to collect a large body of feedback post-launch to make sure that this is what people prefer.

Thread Introducing ResetEra 2.0! Update: Beta is live, full launch set for December 2!
Part of it is that we coded the scrolling top bar on Day/NightEra ourselves, whereas Xenforo 2.0 comes with the bar baked in. That core software was built around the hamburger menu/sidebars, which strongly incentivizes keeping the bar on mobile as well. As a result, everything else we throw onto the bar has to scale across both desktop and mobile. This ties our hands quite a bit in a way they were not tied before. Even adding the Quick Jump feature on mobile compelled us to abbreviate the site logo and move the light/dark theme toggle to the left sidebar. I'm tired and I'm not sure if I'm explaining this clearly but I hope that this also makes sense. I'm not sure what you're referring to here, as the legacy themes had nothing comparable to the sidebars. Although it shares the same icon the hamburger on the mobile sidebar is not the same button you use to open the sidebar. I do, bluntly, believe that most users will not have trouble closing the sidebar.

In the future we want to allow the scrolling bar to be dynamically hidden/unhidden, or have it slide out of sight while scrolling down, or something along those lines. However to do something fancy like that we would have to replace the Xenforo 2.0 scrolling bar with our own built from scratch, which would be a major project in and of itself. Although I don't believe anyone has attempted it yet, it's likely that a licensed solution will someday become available. Long story short: It will happen, but not at launch.

I think there's a pretty good possibility that other users would find that counter-intuitive and result in a lot of accidental closures. It might be better to consider a new location for the X, but to be honest I don't think it's going to be a launch focus. If a large number of users raise this issue later we can investigate possible solutions.

Thread Introducing ResetEra 2.0! Update: Beta is live, full launch set for December 2!
Unfortunately that is actually intended; on mobile the sidebar is split into four main functions (navigation, profile, conversations, alerts) and the stack corresponds only to the navigation section. The ability to exit by tapping anywhere outside the sidebar is meant to compensate. The navigation tabs would not be able to scale down the same way that the search bar does. Making the search an icon by default would not make more navigation tabs any more feasible. It wouldn't "allow more space" for anything. It's an aesthetic flourish that stretches to occupy space on wide displays. that much space for essential navigation features creates big problems when you try to scale down. I hope that makes sense.

That's just an indication that the forum is in debug mode, that'll be gone when we go live. Try tapping any space outside the sidebar; that should close it as well. The search bar doesn't require a fixed amount of space; it shrinks as the display resolution decreases, until it becomes a single icon. It's not competing with anything else.

This is something we'll investigate, but gut feeling says that implementing it on 2.0 would be a major undertaking. If we can achieve this I don't think it'll make it for launch. I apologize that we haven't been able to respond to all of your ideas; as you can see we've adopted a fair few of them especially on the thread list. We definitely appreciate the mockups and the work you've put into them! I know that the Quick Jump isn't perfect, but after testing it a while we really think that once people get accustomed to using it it'll become second nature. We're open to being proved wrong over the long term, but any other solution will also necessarily come with its own drawbacks. I don't want to promise anything that I'm not sure will work, but we're also going to see if we can make improvements to the mobile implementation. No problem at all. We appreciate that you guys are as passionate about the site as we are. Thanks for reporting this, we will look into it.

Thread Introducing ResetEra 2.0! Update: Beta is live, full launch set for December 2!
Thank you! We're glad that you like the change. The amount of space available can vary wildly by device; we have to account for 13" Macbooks for example. Adding two more buttons would make things cluttered on smaller displays and actually be less intuitive for new users. We do recognize your point about the sidebar redundancy, and going forward we intend to explore ways to make it more unique/useful. We experimented with that idea and were not hostile to it. What we found was that it not only looked worse, it wasn't really much easier to use, it couldn't fully replace all the options from the previous top navigation, and it didn't scale well; on mobile devices there just isn't room for 6 buttons (accounting for the hamburger menu and search) with minimum standard touch targets, let alone 7 (with Bookmarks) or 8 (with Watched) or 9 (with Trending). The current design accommodates every one of those, plus the option for the right sidebar on pages where that is applicable. I know it's not going to please everyone 100% right off the bat. But we did not pick this solution out of a hat, and we would at least like to give it a fair chance.

Most users won't have that much space on the top bar. At 1080p for example it's definitely not viable. Putting the navigation options at the top mirrors the functionality that existed on the legacy themes, which is what most members are used to anyway. With the floating arrows enabled you can simply click to the top to get that access.

Thread Introducing ResetEra 2.0! Update: Y'all killed our beta server, beta delayed until unkilled
We've been talking for a while now about our plans to create a site design that would be worthy of the title 2.0. The time has come to show you everything that entails. In the past, site development was all handled internally. In order to meet our ambitious goals and assist the technical team, professional forum developers were contracted to help with every aspect of this project. While this approach ruled out any design by committee, the result is a forum with a combination of features and flourishes found nowhere else on the internet. First things first: ResetEra 2.0 has been built upon next generation forum software in Xenforo 2.0. The current site designs were built upon the older Xenforo 1.5 for (at the time) greater stability and compatibility with a number of third party plugins which have been essential for managing a community of this size. A year later Xenforo 2.0 has matured as a platform and is now fully compatible with our needs. This upgrade needs to happen in order to ensure that the base software will continue to receive support, and it brings with it a number of quality of life improvements. Because this is a generational leap, none of the existing themes we have developed so far will be compatible with the new software. This includes both LightEra/DarkEra as well as DayEra/NightEra. Many of you are attached to the old themes, but simply bringing those over was not possible. As such, we've incorporated the lessons we've learned from those themes and the feedback you've offered and put it all into something truly ambitious. Sometimes it's easier to show rather than tell. Please watch the following videos for your first introduction to ResetEra 2.0.The team aimed to create something highly responsive and functional, wrapped up in a design that looks like a product of 2018. The left sidebar offers a host of navigation options. The right sidebar offers information about the board and a list of the latest threads. Both are hidden by default and can be shown or hidden again at your whim. If your screen resolution is large enough, an option to expand the site to fit the full width is available in the bottom left corner. The ability to navigate straight from the thread list to the original post (back arrow) last post (forward arrow) and first unread post (thread title) has been retained from the DayEra/NightEra designs. As per your feedback, the dark theme boasts muted purples inspired by the DarkEra legacy theme. Going from light theme to dark theme and vice versa is now as simple as clicking a switch. Mobile view was a big emphasis during development. A lot of effort went into making sure that browsing on mobile offers feature parity with desktop. This is the first time that we have been able to display view count and reply count on the mobile thread list, and the first time we've been able to represent both the thread creator (via avatar) and the latest poster. A full accounting of every new feature in ResetEra 2.0 would take forever. There will be any number of cool things that you'll discover yourselves when you get your hands on it. Some of these are inherent to the Xenforo 2.0 platform, some are the product of third party plugins, and some have been uniquely customized for us and no one else. We wanted to highlight some of our favorite new features that we think you will enjoy. Simply check your account preferences and enter whatever number you desires. These uploads have a recommended resolution of 600x1000 and will be limited to 250kb (easily achieved with reasonable jpg compression). See the following video for a demonstration.Covers will be moderated like any other images or avatars. Please note that we will be monitoring the effect of this feature on site performance, and may make future adjustments as necessary. We know we've given you a lot to digest already! There will also undoubtedly be bugs and other issues that we have not yet detected ourselves. Therefore, starting immediately, we are opening up our beta site to any of our registered members who had accounts in good standing on October 2 (when the database was migrated). If that does not describe you then unfortunately you are out of luck. Because we cannot commit to moderating two forums at once, the beta website has had posting and other features disabled and is in read-only mode. We hope that you'll enjoy exploring the new design and its options, browsing experience, and wealth of available features. In order to access the beta, please sign in with your usual ResetEra credentials. You may then have to manually select either the "Resetera" or "Resetera Dark" theme options from the style chooser in the bottom left. Please report any bugs you find in this thread, and make sure to read before you offer feedback. We expect to run this beta for about a week before addressing final issues and preparing for launch. We've put all of our hearts and months of our lives into this project. We hope that you enjoy it! That's right! ResetEra 2.0 will boast full Unicode support, and with it, emojis. Please note that emojis are not to be confused with smilies, so these won't be available in the post editor. You can simply place them using your OS level emoji keyboard. We place this great power in your hands and expect you'll use it responsibly.

Thread A Message from the ResetEra Staff
Hello world! In the rush since launch it’s come to our attention that we haven’t really taken the time to introduce ourselves in terms of the culture we hope to foster here. After an eventful few days, we’ve fielded questions about how and why we choose , and as well. We think this is a good opportunity to speak about our values and explain why they are so important to us. Everything we do begins and ends with the community. A community that decided with one voice, without any direction from above, what it believed in and what it would stand for. It was not fate that kept us united. A happy ending was never guaranteed. Picture this: Thousands of people, scattered across dozens of Discord channels, all deciding in unison that . It's an unlikely story, and one that would never have been possible if we allowed ourselves to be divided by what we looked like or where we came from or who we loved. We are only here because we were not divided. And today we would like to make it clear that we never will be. If you are new to our community, we welcome you with open arms. What we ask is that you be aware of our history, of what we went through to get here, and what values we cannot compromise on. Women, minorities, and LGBTQ have all played key roles in making ResetEra happen. This is a place where their concerns can be aired without fear of intimidation or petty sniping. This is a place where respect and decency will always matter. We cannot police the whole internet, but we can set standards for our community. If those standards were unclear before, we expect they are no longer. This is who we are. This is ResetEra.

After your account is approved, you will begin as a Junior Member. This is your chance to settle in, get a feel for the forum, and demonstrate your capacity for civil discourse. Moderation may be stricter during this period, but to discourage elitism there will be no public indication of Junior Member status. Junior Members are not able to create new threads. In order to move from being a Junior Member to a full Member, two conditions must be met: (1) 90 days must have passed since your account was approved and (2) you must have made at least 300 posts. Once these two conditions are met, your account will automatically be upgraded to Member status. Each user is allowed only one account. If you are found to have created multiple accounts out of benign misunderstanding, you will be asked to pick one and the others will be closed. If you are found to have created multiple accounts in bad faith, such as for ban evasion or trolling, all of your accounts will be subject to an automatic permanent ban. For members working in the press or the entertainment industries, we offer “verified accounts.“ A verified account is identifiable by a 'Verified' icon in your profile. While we understand that anonymity may be desirable for myriad reasons, we would like to encourage you to verify yourself so that you may better engage with our audience of ResetEra users. You can check out our for more information on this program, including how to get verified yourself. ResetEra as a forum and as a community values inclusivity and seeks to provide a welcoming space for all members to come together to discuss video games and more. ResetEra does not tolerate behavior or language that is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise maliciously exclusionary with regard to identity. Our mission is to foster an environment that brings people together in open dialogue. We might not see each other face to face, but behind each username is another human being who may have a different background. Accordingly, the Cardinal Rule for using ResetEra’s website and services is to be mindful of the above and to enter dialogue in good faith. The ResetEra sets forth a non-exclusive list of prohibited activities. ResetEra reserves the exclusive right to use its discretion in taking any action against a user who violates the User Agreement, from account suspension (temporary banning) to account termination (permanent banning). Please be respectful and polite when posting in threads. This includes when addressing other users and when posting about the topic at hand. You can post in a thread without making it personal or insulting other users. Impolite posting and using improper grammar and spelling is frowned upon here. Consistently low quality posts can lead to a ban. We presently allow posters access to a variety of text options including size, color, and font. Please do not abuse these to make obnoxious or visually distracting replies. Misusing red text will result in a warning. As a ResetEra user, it is important to understand that video games are being created by different developers working with different budgets and technology on different systems for different publishers who try to strike a lucrative balance between business and art. Of course, it is frustrating that a highly anticipated project turns out to be under your expectations, but remember that there are actual people working on these games that have a life outside of video games and are passionate about what they do. Claiming that an entire studio is "lazy" is not only disrespectful but also very naive and uninformed. If we are lucky we get to learn about the stories behind these products, but other than that it helps to understand that this is an industry that is fueled by money, sweat and passion. No matter how disappointed you are, please try to understand people from the industry and don't pin anybody down on one project that didn't go as you wished. The same goes for people who are covering the video games industry: vilifying an entire media outlet for any reason is typically unhelpful. It is crucial to understand that these people share a similar high passion for this hobby as you do and try their best to do their jobs. These outlets are not monoliths but groups of people that keep changing over the years. None of them are perfect and while reasoned discussion is always welcome, try to refrain from dismissing a website or magazine for petty reasons. Honest dissent and debate is generally welcome. However, we do not welcome disingenuous arguments, deliberately ignoring or refusing to acknowledge counterarguments, or arguing for no reason than to upset other members. If your contributions to a discussion are clearly unproductive or lead in circles, it’s time to stop. There is no prize for being the first person to comment on something. Instead of reading headlines, please take your time to read the snippets and the content in question. Don't let your own laziness potentially make you look like a fool. Do not come into a thread, write something purposefully provocative, and bail out. We'd suggest either making a solid argument or ignoring a thread altogether if you have nothing to contribute. We would also like to remind users not to derail threads and post about topics which are not related to the content posted in the OP. Everybody has their platforms and genres of preference and it's completely fine if somebody doesn't share a similar taste as you. Don't be an annoying megaphone for multi-billion dollar corporations that only care about you buying their products first and foremost. Don't be bitter about multi-platform announcements. Don't be bitter if a system you like sells less than the system you don't like. Every time here is a new and popular third party game, people often 'beg' for ports of that game for their favorite hardware by either derailing threads or creating new threads. It’s not always easy to determine where the line is between harmless speculation and port begging, but generally port begging refers to comments that are disruptive to an existing discussion, fuel for console wars, or completely without substantive basis. Please do not make such posts or threads. If no platforms are announced, speculation about the platforms generally does not qualify as port begging. It is fine to see a thread about a subject that you absolutely don't care about and to not post in it. It's absolutely fine to let people celebrate tiny successes without dropping a snarky comment between posts. We are not asking of you to not be critical, but to be aware that your opinion is just one among many and not necessary for every single thread. Please note that the forum has an ignore feature that you can use if you do not want to see a certain user’s posts. From time to time it is necessary to step away for a few minutes or hours if a discussion you participate in gets too heated or you feel like you can't contribute anymore. Keep taking care of yourself and don't lose yourself between dozens of posts and threads. It is also helpful to remember that spending too much time on ResetEra alone can create a bubble in your mind about what gaming is and what it isn't. Be aware that there is a world outside of it. Posting rumors and leaks from external websites is allowed but we ask users to use common sense when doing so. Do not post rumors and leaks from random blogs with no track record. If you believe the rumor you’re reading couldn’t possibly be true then it is best not to post it here. If you wish to post a leak or rumor yourself on ResetEra you should contact an Administrator so that we can review the information first. Please note that we will not officially endorse leaks posted on the forum and users who knowingly post incorrect information will be banned. Many posters like to experience entertainment without knowing what to expect from it. This is something that everyone should strive to accommodate. For example if you are in a thread about a recently released game and want to discuss information that could only have been acquired by playing it, please hide that information behind tags. Do not include such spoilers in thread titles. Spoiler sensitivity, however, cannot be allowed to stifle discussion of actual news. If information is publicized as part of promotional material, or otherwise announced through official channels, it is fair game. Our forum software allows you to clearly title the contents of your spoiler. Whenever possible and appropriate, please use this feature so that members will know exactly what you are hiding behind the tags. If a thread title has the word ‘spoiler’ in the title then you do not need to use spoiler tags in that thread and you can assume that discussion in that thread will revolve around said spoiler. It’s wonderful that you want to start a discussion, but being the Original Poster carries some responsibility to start things off on the right foot. If you’re going to create a thread, try to include more content and care than one or two short sentences. Consider whether the thread will generate good discussion, and scrutinize any sources you decide to cite. Try not to create new threads based on tweets, jokes, conspiracy theories, poor sources or yes/no questions. Consistently low quality threads may lead to your thread making privileges being revoked. Thread making privileges will be restored after 6 months, subject to a review by staff.: LTTP stands for Late-To-The-Party and means that you are catching up to a product whose release window and discussion you've completely missed. Please do not create a LTTP thread for a game that just came out one or two months ago; use the game OT (official topic) instead if it's not too old. RTTP stands for Return-To-The-Party and means that you want to revisit the discussion about a certain product. Similar rules as LTTP. Please do not create threads that have illegal links or magazine scans in them. If you create a thread based on an article, please do not copy the entire article and use snippets instead and a link to the article. Respect that these are written by people who make their living with those clicks, no matter if you agree and disagree with the premise. Also, properly represent these articles and don't spin them to create a narrative to your liking. If you create a thread based on a video, please create a short summary of it or write down your own opinion on why people should watch it (this of course isn't necessary for new game trailers though additional info is always helpful to have).: In our experience, these lead to nothing but pages and pages of emotionally fueled hot-takes that mostly resemble spam rather than actual material of value. Instead, use the relevant event and announcement threads for your instant reactions to keep them in one place. By creating a review thread for something we expect you to be active and keep updating the original post with more information instead of adding just the first few reviews and then bail out. Please refrain from creating a review thread if you are unable to do so. Similar to content threads, we expect you to share a snippet of the review, a score/final verdict and a link to it. You can also add the OpenCritic and MetaCritic scores. OTs for products need to be claimed first in the specific thread for OTs (which exist for both gaming and offtopic). You can design your OT however you want but we'd like to suggest that you should include some basic information about the product (see below). The format for an OT thread title is usually |OT| . OTs for games should not go up more than 72 hours before launch. A strong OT should contain the following: New OTs may be posted to and remain in their respective Video Games or EtcetEra sections for one month before being moved to the Hangouts. If something gets announced and you decide to make a thread for it, please try to include as much and as precise information as possible. If nothing is available, you can still make a thread and add information later using the edit feature. Don't worry if multiple threads are being created about the same announcement: the ResetEra team will merge these threads . Event threads should be created on the day the event starts and include schedules, stream links and some basic information. Those things should be included; the rest is up to you. A list thread is a thread that encourages replies that largely or completely take the form of lists. These threads tend not to generate much if any actual discussion or member interaction, and therefore are usually closed. Voting threads generally fall under this category as well. If you wish to create a voting thread, please contact an Administrator to seek an exception beforehand. Do not post any material that would be too explicit to be aired on network television. Many of our members are from the United States and have a good grasp of what this means and will be able to tell you where that line is. Do not post any material featuring characters wearing clothing that would get a real person arrested for public indecency. Do not post images, artwork, figurines, or any other material, no matter how stylized or fictional, which clearly fetishizes or sexualises characters under the age of 18. This restriction also uniquely extends to discussions; do not condone, defend, or otherwise excuse the sexualisation of children. Many of our members browse this website from their workplaces and material that excessively highlights or focuses on sexual or secondary sexual characteristics might be a bad look for them. Try to be tasteful and considerate if the option exists. You are encouraged to make use of spoiler tags or off-site links to hide images or other material that you believe may be on the borderline. If you have any questions feel free to contact a moderator beforehand.Do not post copyrighted material such as magazine scans. This policy also applies to copying and pasting entire articles or reports for redistribution on ResetEra. Linking to piracy websites or encouraging piracy is also prohibited. We have more information on this policy and DMCA takedowns in our terms of service.Do not create threads featuring links to products or services that you have a direct involvement in. Users are welcome and encouraged to post in already existing threads about a product or service that they are involved in (including links that are specifically relevant to the thread) so that they may engage with the community. Please note that this policy also applies to verified users on ResetEra Spam of any kind is not allowed on ResetEra. This refers to malware and phishing content, referral links, self-promotion and abuse of the post or private message system. In rare cases, we may ban certain websites or sources from being posted on ResetEra. The reason for each ban may vary but in general we will ban a site if they are an unreliable source of information or if they have a history of attempting to self-promote on our site. We ask that you not post content from these websites. You will know if a website is banned as the link will be replaced by asterisks. For more information on why a particular website has been banned, you may contact a moderator. We have a zero-tolerance policy on hate speech, bullying, harassment and doxing. Any users found to be involved in this behaviour will be banned. As a general measuring stick, if a game is it is unlikely to be appropriate here. Do not discuss these games or create threads about them. Games that are not on the Twitch list will only be considered for prohibition if the staff receives a complaint from the community. After review, the following games have also been prohibited: Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library Gal Gun Hatred Huniepop Monster Monpiece Omega Labyrinth Z Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura Super Seducer: How to Talk to Girls Super Seducer 2 Tits N Tanks Our international staff is made up of people with a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. To offer consistent moderation, we apply universal staff guidelines that are nevertheless flexible enough to evolve with the times. Every staff member has to follow the same rules as the rest of the forum and is expected to behave professionally when acting as a representative of ResetEra. On ResetEra, we aim to be as transparent as possible about the moderation of the site, especially when it comes to the banning of accounts. If you have any questions about our moderation, please do not risk a thread derail and instead feel free to contact the Mod Team Captains or . There is a available to the public that is regularly maintained and kept up to date. The majority of users on our website will never break a rule outlined in the FAQ and terms of service. We understand that some users may break a rule during a heated discussion or as a one off. We have a public warning system in place that allows us to warn the user for this behavior and communicate to our entire user base what sort of behavior is acceptable and what is not acceptable. If a user breaks a rule they will receive a public warning first in most cases. A moderator will add a red bar above the user’s post with text that contains a clear reason as to why the user was warned. The user that is warned may also receive a PM from a moderator which explains why the warning was issued. We hope that users will read all public warning messages they come across to understand how best to use the website. Please note that repeated warnings will lead to a ban. In some cases, we may choose to ban a user without a warning first. If a user continues to break the rules, especially after being warned in the past, we may temporarily ban the user. The length of the ban will depend on the user’s moderation history and the number of warnings that they have received in the past. For most users, we will start out with a 24-hour ban. We understand that sometimes what users need is a break, and so we want to give users the chance to learn from their mistakes so they can come back later with an improved mindset. In the interest of transparency, we will also keep the ban reason public for each user. You can find the public ban reason in the red bar at the top of the offending post. The ban reason text will contain a clear reason as to why the user was banned as well as the duration of the ban. Please note that users who continue to break the rules will receive longer bans. In certain cases, we may permanently ban a user. We will do this if a user continues to break the rules after multiple warnings or bans. We may also permanently ban users if they intentionally sign up to break our rules or violate the ToS. We encourage users to take advantage of the report system we have in place. The report system allows you to report posts, private messages or users that break any of the forum rules and/or violate the terms of service. Due to the real-time nature of ResetEra, moderators are unable to review every single post on the forum. Therefore, report feature is an extremely useful tool for both users and moderators as it allows site staff to respond to a post or thread where moderation is required soon after a report is received. You can report a post by clicking the report button on the top right of a user’s post next to the post number. This is shown in the image below. Once you’ve clicked the report button you’ll see a dialogue box where you can enter text. Please ensure you enter an accurate reason for why you are reporting the post. You can refer to the FAQ or Terms of Service for a list of rules. Once you’ve done this you can click ‘Report Post’ and a moderator will deal with it soon after. In addition to reporting other users posts, you can also report your own posts. This is useful in certain cases, such as requiring a moderator to change the title of your thread. Please use the report button responsibly. Ensure that you have a valid reason for reporting a post and make sure to articulate this clearly in the text box. Do not send reports just because you do not like a certain user or because you disagree with a valid opinion. Do not threaten another user with the report system. Abuse of the report system violates our rules, and will lead to a warning or ban.

Thread Back to Normal
Hello everyone, Earlier today we rearranged the forum with the goal of encouraging more discussion on entertainment topics, and to promote threads from the EtcetEra Hangouts. The results did some good; community OTs definitely saw a boost in activity, and some which had never even gotten off the ground before suddenly found new interest. Unfortunately, we underestimated just how much impact this would have on thread list congestion. The renewed activity was beyond our expectations and ended up sidelining everything else, especially in the Entertainment section. Browsing for regular topics became difficult, which only fed back into the problem. Most disappointingly of all this created tension between segments of the wider community, which was absolutely not something that we wanted to let fester. For these reasons, we have rolled back the changes. If you added anyone to your ignore list to avoid their threads please consider it safe to undo that. This was an idea that came from the best intentions, the brainchild of volunteers with no incentive or motivation beyond love of the site and community. I would like people to understand that a whole bunch of these volunteer staff spent hours upon hours working to make the change happen because they believed in it with all their hearts. As you can imagine, reversing the change was not an easy decision, but we feel it is the right one at this time.

Thread ResetEra Version 1.5 Update Thread
Hello all! We'd like to first apologize for being quiet on this front lately. In addition to working on this update, we've been getting our ducks in a row regarding some long held ambitions, and today we can finally talk a little about that. It can be difficult to balance day to day work with community engagement, but going forward we're going to make a stronger effort to show our faces in this thread. For immediate release we have the ResetEra 1.5 update which fixes numerous compatibility issues with the Safari browser, provides relief for the forced mobile view bug, and also introduces a new variable width feature for those of you who hate wasting horizontal space. Based on your feedback these were three of the biggest issues that users had with DayEra/NightEra and we have dedicated a considerable effort to address them. At the very bottom of the page desktop users should now see a button like in the image above. Pressing it will allow you to toggle page width! The full list of highlights from this update include:We hope you enjoy the changes! Please report any new or persisting issues in the new . We have been made aware of some compatibility issues with Internet Explorer 11. If you are an IE11 user, please use one of the legacy themes for now. Sorry for the inconvenience! Now let's talk about the future. In our last update we explained that the DayEra/NightEra designs are not part of the same project as ResetEra 2.0, but rather a standalone that would help bridge the gap. We promised some months ago that ResetEra 2.0 would be released before the end of 2018. Those plans are now beginning to mature. While some work will continue in the interim on DayEra/NightEra, we have recently made special arrangements for additional help and resources for ResetEra 2.0 in order to ensure that development will proceed smoothly and in a timely manner. After considering the totality of your feedback, we examined our options and determined that making ResetEra 2.0 an urgent priority made the most sense for the community in the long term. The wheels are now in motion, and we look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks. We will be using this thread to do so.

Thread Introducing GiftBot! Want to run a giveaway on ResetEra? GiftBot is our gift to you!
One of the most frequent requests we've received since launch has been for a forum bot that members can use to run giveaways safely and efficiently. You asked for it, and our team has been working hard to deliver. At last we're ready to show some results: Introducing ! To celebrate this launch we're holding our own inaugural giveaways with cool prizes. If you run into any bugs please contact . A true labor of love, GiftBot is being developed entirely in-house by our sleepless tech team. Coding GiftBot from scratch will allow us to fully customize and tailor its features over time to better respond to the needs of the community. The design plan was drawn up in close collaboration with moderators from SteamEra, a community that knows its way around giveaways like no other. GiftBot is a fully automated forum feature that takes the delicate work of running a giveaway safely out of human hands. The mechanical spin of its avatar is the only motion it will ever know (note: sorry, organics on ResetEra are still not allowed animated avatars). Like the that so crucially facilitated our first annual GOTY vote, GiftBot is a friendly and unarmed automation with no moderator functions. We're launching GiftBot with basic functionality that includes a First-to-Claim mode and a 24 Hour Raffle. Over time we intend to add many more features and options for users to customize how they want their giveaways to be run. By developing GiftBot ourselves, we've ensured that the sky is the limit! We are committed to the long term expansion and refinement of GiftBot as a service for the community. While GiftBot is meant to be a fun way for users to interact with their fellow ResetEra members, our lawyers have advised us to make a few things clear! For Givers: ResetEra, LLC is not responsible for any keys to submitted to GiftBot. Only submit keys to GiftBot that you are absolutely sure you want to give away or no longer want to use. For Receivers: GiftBot has no way to verify the validity of a key prior to giving it away. If you receive an invalid key from GiftBot, you have no recourse against either ResetEra, LLC or against the user who sponsored the giveaway (the "Giver"), though the Giver may offer you a replacement key if they so choose. Finally, neither ResetEra, LLC nor the Giver will provide technical support for the keys. If you have an issue with a key you receive through GiftBot, your only recourse is to contact the platform holder through which the key was to be redeemed for support. For Everyone: ResetEra, LLC makes no guarantee that GiftBot will be available at certain times or at any time. The services provided through GiftBot may be terminated at anytime and without notice. GiftBot is solely for the fun and amusement of ResetEra Members ("Members"), and ResetEra, LLC does not charge a cost to participate in GiftBot giveaways. However, GiftBot is only available to Members with an active account; if a Member's account is banned, either temporarily or permanently, then that Member will be unable to participate in GiftBot giveaways for the duration of their ban.

It's a little ironic that you should choose to press the issue in this way, because while looking into this just now I discovered that this is actually your second account here and that was permanently banned for repeated hostility in threads on female sexualisation. Given that we do not allow alt accounts, we have now closed yours. A word of advice: If you send us angry messages regarding your next alt you should avoid doing so from accounts with the same name and profile picture attached.

Thread Figure Era |OT| Forums are Temporary, Plastic and Communities are Forever
Hello all. has asked passionately for clarity, and to find it I had a female moderator lead a discussion among the REgals community about the Makoto figurine and what kind of compromise with the FigureERA community they would find acceptable. First things first, there was indeed overwhelming objection to the now infamous Makoto figurine. Crucially, it was not the sexualization in and of itself that caused this concern, but specifically that . Most of these ladies wanted to emphasize that . So! Now for adults you’re probably asking how sexy is too sexy. Some suggestions on this topic were made which I find entirely reasonable, and so I present them to you now: Again I feel that any new restrictions found here are very reasonable, and in fact this clarity may lift other restrictions you have been imposing on yourselves. Everyone appreciates that you’ve been making a sincere and earnest effort to be a part of our wider community, and no one is deliberately trying to drive you off. If you stay within these boundaries you will be fine, and you will be welcome. Our FAQ is currently being revised and we will work to codify all of the above and more under our universal NSFW policy as soon as possible. Thank you.

In this case the complaint we received most frequently was that the shape of her vagina was clearly outlined and also emphasized by the pose. If you disagree, please note that this is not a topic I'm particularly eager to debate. I'm not sure it's possible for us to create a list of every possible objection that might arise. All we can do is ask that you continue to exercise common sense and discretion, and perhaps avoid drawing wide attention to cases that might be on the borderline.

Hello. I just wanted to clarify that the thread in question was generating a large number of reports and that other users did have real concerns about it not being safe for their work. The red post in this thread was not intended as a reprimand but as a gentle reminder, but in hindsight we acknowledge that this may have come off as guilt by association. We regret that. As Nicole has already stated, you've done a good job of policing yourselves and we appreciate that very much. Please keep it up. We are not looking for reasons to moderate anyone; we are far too busy for that.

Some of the staff feel that the program was a mistake and is leading to a lot of low quality threads that often end up needing a lock. Unstickying it rather than closing it altogether was the compromise. The plan is to phase it out as the first wave of promotions approaches.
