ThreadCNBC: Amazon Go stores will soon accept cash, addressing discrimination concerns
gonna chop in a few more thoughts here
It'd be one thing if they just wanted, say, 50-100, but Amazon laid out their plans and they want these things everywhere
1 in every airport, 1 near every newsstand, etc. 1 in every theater, remember they bought a whole chain of those (Landmark, IIRC)
ThreadCNBC: Amazon Go stores will soon accept cash, addressing discrimination concerns
Also this stuff basically flies in the face of a business being 'oh we don't want your money, it's in a different form than what we want'
Nah chief, they want your money. Costco has that official policy, but if you roll in and wanna buy stuff they're usually not gonna care if it's a one-off
ThreadCNBC: Amazon Go stores will soon accept cash, addressing discrimination concerns
Remember this came up in a few threads earlier, like the one where Philadelphia banned cashless stores like this one, citing discrimination against poor people/people who can't use cashless systems. Selected quotes below.
ThreadCNBC: Amazon Go stores will soon accept cash, addressing discrimination concerns
Worth pointing out that Amazon Go stores generally have staff on hand anyways, it'll likely be something where you go up to a spot for cash customers and they'll help you.
If you're an Amazon member it'll still work the same way, you just scan your phone when you roll in, grab what you want, then dip
So for the bougie in me it's great
For the 'stop fucking poor people over' part of me it was hella badAmazon wants to make 3000 of these stores in 2 years and this was the first real big hurdle to jump for that

ThreadAndroidPolice: T-Mobile launches TVision to take on 'Big Cable,' keeps the crappy Big Cable prices
For the record, I have XFinity and I called them to say I wanted to get cable but not with a set top box, they said they couldn't do anything for me
2 days later, they called me and we went over their XFinityStream app, which is on Smart TVs and doesn't require an extra fee and I still get cable
So this is worse

You know for someone with ice powers, Frost is a real hothead!
Also SHOW ME THE KITANA FATAL BLOW at this rate I expect her to basically decapitate someone in it and then they just pop up and they're finenow wait a goddamn minute here no
Couple options here for that
Eat the cost - that's the standard move and the company generally expects to make it up in volume, but since they'd lose 3% off every card, that's probably a no go
Have the retailer pay - lol this will never happen ever ever ever ever
Have the consumer pay more - this is the AMEX move, really rare, kinda dumb, defeats the purpose, is a poor people tax
Real being real they probably raise that cut to 20 or some such later, then they have at least some wiggle room for this kind of thing
lol wait a damn minute here
Epic isn't the poppy store down the street where they have a 5$ credit card minimum because they can't afford the fees under that
They should at least have a roadmap to get to a spot where they can cover those/cover the fees to get retail cards into stores

Yeah I'm gonna hazard a guess that pubs and devs have been quietly pressing Valve on this for a year or two now
They didn't acquiesce or didn't give enough for their liking, so pubs started making their own launchers
Eh who knows really, in my head it's always something like this
Valve: You can't break these cuffs
Bethesda: We're gonna break these cuffs
Valve: Go ahead, try it
*Bethesda pulls all their games for their own launcher*
Valve: Oh
Bethesda: Wait we like money
Valve: We like money too
*They work it out*
Best comparison I can think of is when cable channels fall off Comcast or Spectrum or some such and then it's a lot of maneuvering back and forth
I'm gonna guess devs started pressing Valve on the shares once word of the EGS being in fruition started
I dunno about correlation -> causation, but devs and storefronts are always gonna fight over that gwap
I legitimately cannot stress how irresponsible those tweets from that Valve rep are RE: paying for retail wallet card feesAmazon has their own payment service so yeah they wanna cut dat boi out

ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
People who are good at artistic mediums tend to want their art to be able to be enjoyed by as many people as possible.
Accessibility in gaming is tough because it's far more of an interactive medium, input controls can be quite complicated, et cetera. Sony's pretty good with customization/accessibility options. Microsoft put millions of dollars into a controller they will never make a profit off of, simply to provide a popular and universal option.
If a dev wants to make a game and specifically not care about/ignore gamers with disabilities, then they're doing their content a disservice.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
I own Italian versions of Murder on the Orient Express and other various textbooks and I can't read them for shit. But they were translated so people who don't know English can also enjoy the book. I also own braille versions of some other books.
Exceptions don't prove the rule.I'm engaging just fine, please do not try and browbeat me about this again because I do not appreciate it whatsoever.
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
Yeah my guy this shit is simple
If someone with a disability wants to consume art/play a game, etc, and someone tells them no, I'm throwing snow cones at that person until they change their mind because I've never seen that happen in a serious conversation about a creative medium and not get laughed out of the goddamn building
I don't care about the rest
ThreadKotaku: An easy mode has never ruined a game
Yes
Person with disability: I'd like to play games but I need better accessibility options, or really any accessibility options
Dev: Hmm we never really thought about that
Some peeps: Don't ruin the devs' art
Like if movies and almost every other creative medium on earth can accommodate for people with various disabilities, games can too. Netflix supplies descriptive audio for the blind, subtitles for those with hearing impairment have been around for decades, braille books exist, I can keep goingI moderate Twitter?

Also thinking about it I know one company that actually does put the extra cost for retail cards onto the consumers themselves
It's American Express
ThreadPC Gaming Era | April 2019 - Goodbye, Uzzy is your new King
If I may recommend something for your beginner thread, do not mention the whole 'Steam pays the 15% for their retail cards' thing. I have no idea why that Valve rep put that out there.

We can bounce back and forth about Steam's feature set, their curation issues, and all that jazz until the cows come home, but it really just has to do with:
Devs want more money
They want to pull a power play
Steam can only negotiate so much
Epic rolls in, they want to pull their own power play
Devs will point to whatever issues that come to mind (which are also important, don't throw those out)

Hey y'all! As it seems T-Mobile will be giving out a free year of MLB.TV again starting next week, I'd like to reiterate the rules for that, which are basically we are allowing it, but buyer beware.
T-Mobile tends to put restrictions/rules when it comes to sharing these accounts/codes, and it is important for buyers/sellers to note these in the descriptions when they sell them. Usually it's something akin to not using non T-Mobile cell data to activate/watch MLB.TV on.
Plan accordingly! Get ready to score a touchgoal!

ThreadWould you consider buying a game on the Epic Store over Steam?
So here are the things that would swing me over to Epic over a Steam version:
Fortnite style crossplay/progression (I believe this is their big hitter and what brought Dauntless/etc over, but they haven't fully explained that quite yet)
Android Store (this will likely be their own storefront on there, too, so if you buy, say, Hades on the PC store, and they make an Android version, it's crossbuy)
Constant iteration/updates (they're way behind the 8-ball now, but catching up)
But those are likely months/years away

Sony makes games to sell systems. That's just the core tenet for how they do games business. They also don't want to share anything with anybody, cut wise.
Microsoft handles this differently because they're entirely in on crossplatform/buy/etc, as long as you pay them directly.

ThreadPC Gaming Era | March 2019 - The Ides of Smarch
There is one, but that was more for when the EGS was initially announced, and it was to specifically curb things like op-eds/lots of opinion threads and the like. I don't think it's a good idea to do another one quite yet as things aren't too bad, and if something is newsworthy, it should get a thread.
My main issue is that it's very hard for me to verify the accuracy of something like, say, the Sergei Twitter stuff, or the payment processing fee stuff, because it's either incredibly difficult to parse, info is impossible to find, I have to rely on a translation, or a poster is directly involved.

I shit you not I jumped out of my goddamn chair when Kopite voted for Sae
I had so much suspicion during the game but it was so obvious that I was able to sneak n peek
Also that no exclude in the other room almost ruined EVERYTHING lol
Alright I'm popping my pattern outKopite and Nat voting together
Nat has been coming after me for most of the game, and also going after Flux to whittle away at his credibility
Kopite was going after flux, tried to swap to me when it was his best shot to survive
Kopite, instead of going after the very obvious exclusion move in Nat, goes after me AGAIN
They've been in lockstep this whole game, they just deviated it from it enough times that it didn't scan until now, and Flux had to deviate from everyone's plan to get it to happen, which he did because Kopite baited him into it why did you hesitate on excluding Flux, if those quotes are true? Wasn't that what you wanted to do the whole phase?
