Reason User Banned (1 month) Repeatedly entering the 'Why Women Criticize etc.' thread to make bad faith arguments and be dismissive of the issues despite a previous warning and ban for the same behaviour. Ban extended after review.
The few snippets of zero two's behavior I've seen are quite ludicrous. The thing is gender /= biological sex. And there are people who don't subscribe to either gender. Unless you're doing something like deepfakes, or mimicking the face of some real person, it is fiction don't think nonexistent character representation has anything to do with respect, it only deals with representation of biological sex which is distinct from gender, women /= biological female bodies. The same issues could be brought against future sex bots, once they pass the uncanny valley. But again, I do not think objects with female bodies in and of themselves are disrespecting anyone. If you see the statue of David, in what way does that disrespect men? I don't think it does. I think this idea is an attempt at trying to use the "misappropriation" idea again, to misuse it, that is to say you can't portray a certain race, a certain sex, a certain class, a certain group, a certain political group, a certain religion without permission. But in fiction, you don't need to ask neo-nazis or kkk or surviving nazis how to portray them. In satire you don't need to ask a political party if they'd like to be made fun off. Irrespective of the group, freedom of expression allows you to represent any group any class. Of course if you do tasteless things, you will offend, you will provoke, and you will have to deal with the result of that.

This is the opposite of anecdotal evidence though lol. This is a few fringe crazy people doing crazy things as reported by the media. We don't judge an entire group of people for that kinda stuff, right? Most gamers in general don't even know who Anita is. The point I was trying to make is I've never heard ANY man ever say anything like "women are objects who exist solely for male titillation and pleasure" or believes that in any way. The few people who do think like that are social outcasts that don't get alot with the rest of society. At least that's how I see it...

Reason User Warned: Please do not defend female characters being subjected to sexual assault for titillation
Replying to this post because you've asked for candid responses. Now - I don't like Senran Kagura and know nothing of it beyond those two videos you posted. But I like DoAX3 and am willing to defend that, so I reckon I'm close enough to be able to give a relevant response. But having watched those videos, I don't agree that they're pretty gross. I don't see what makes them pretty gross. You're interactively harassing or assaulting a virtual character. That's it. You, the player, is behaving like an asshole and a pervert to a young woman. It's not for me, but you describe it as 'potentially harmful' and I just can't see it. Potentially harmful to who? Pixels? Fictional characters? Sure. Real people ...how? Do you mean to imply that there could be someone out there who interacts with this and thinks to himself "Ah, I see. So this is the way to treat women. I was doing it incorrectly all along. From now on when I see a bikini-clad maiden I shall proceed to give her bosoms friendly pokes and slaps. If she recoils with tears in her eyes I will know I have done it correctly." Because that doesn't happen. Stuff like this exists you can't treat people like this in real life, it would be gross in real life. It the same reason all kinds of forbidden behaviour appears in video games, most of it violent, but some of it, like this, sexual. And like video game violence, I don't believe that it affects anyone who isn't already predisposed to that kind of behaviour, and I believe only very realistic content (real both emotionally and visually) can have such an effect. Slapping around some poorly-rendered cartoon character in a blatantly silly atmosphere is not anywhere near the level of realism that would cause anyone to get confused. On the other hand, I can't see how this is harmful in the overall context of video games either, because this is a niche game for a tiny audience that is aimed squarely at heterosexual male otakus. There aren't any women feeling excluded by this game having sexualisation - sexualisation is the raison d'etre of the game. So from that point of view no harm is being done either. This isn't a 'Cindy in FFXV' situation here. I suppose that's a defense of the game. Apparently you believe this opinion means I shouldn't be welcome in the forum? I think that goes too far, but each to his own, I know you mean well. To be clear, I'm certainly not angry, just confused at the level of your opprobrium to something I consider totally harmless. As for the second part of the question, the 'Why do you enjoy being pandered to in such a gratuitous, over-the-top manner', well, you've nailed it. It's the interactivity. For me, I'm an amateur photographer. I love taking pictures of stuff. Getting the right lens, the right aperture, setting up the light or being in the right place at the right time. I've done all kinds of photography - landscape, macro, safari, architectural and urban exploration - but one kind I don't get to do that I've always wanted to is taking pictures of half-naked beautiful women - because I don't have access to beautiful women who'd get naked and just pose all day. Guess what, no normal guy does! DoAX3 lets me live out this thing I can't do in real life, and I love it for it. You can't pan the camera around a model and find the perfect angle in porn. And that last sentence is basically 100% of the appeal, if I'm being as candid as you want me to be. And to be extra candid, I don't actually know anyone with the physical attributes of a Momiji from DoA. (They might actually be impossible.) Put those things together and I can spend an hour just setting up scenes, taking pictures, and appreciating the beauty of the subject. Some do the same with landscapes in Horizon or the cars in GT Sport. For me, I prefer female models. It's just purely an enjoyment of physical beauty thing. So if you want to know where the enjoyment comes from, that's it for me. I get that almost everyone else in the thread isn't going to think that's enjoyable, but it should be obvious how to some people it is. I don't get anything out of discussing it with other people other than sharing good images, so I don't really discuss it. And I disagree, as I've stated before, that it's ludicrous or harmful. And that's an important point. People don't defend these games them being 'so clearly ludicrous and harmful' they defend them because they that they're harmful. (I just want to say that all of this is, as you said, assuming the characters are 18. Marie Rose in DoA shouldn't be allowed, imo. It's actually fucking that there wasn't more fuss over her being in DoAX3.)

I'll personally defend it because I find it hilarious. Ludicrous things like that are like that for me. That being said, I haven't actually played any SK games beyond a demo IIRC, but those videos make me want to. It's the kind of absurdism I find appealing. Even if the combat is bad, presentation goes a long way. That SK thread has actually got me curious too with people saying there are legit well-written characters. I'm trying to wrap my head around that claim. I would find the cognitive dissonance of that absolutely fascinating if things do indeed get as serious as they say.

Meh, I see nothing wrong with Pyra’s design nor Rex’s relationship with her in the context of the game. Even if the lead character was a female with a male 2ndary lead playing the love interest I have a feeling those who lean a bit too far in to “everything in gaming is now sexist” would just say that the game is anchoring the female lead down with a love interest they don’t need, and the only reason the male character is there is because the developers think the women always need a man... It feels like there’s no winning with certain types of people until the female characters are fully covered and ugly.

Reason User's previous 3-day ban was extended to 1 week for this post for: Repeated rude, dismissive and bad faith arguing.
One single character design could not, even theoretically, put me off from playing the game. It would be petty on my part and I have never understood when people do that, because, it's one design out of many and game consists out of many things, like gameplay, music, other designs, e.t.c. Being turned off the whole package by just one single aspect is senseless and illogical to me. For example: I really disliked a lot of designs in MK9 - most of the female designs in this game were tasteless and boring (especially Mileena, who was one of my favorite characters in the past) and she, alongside Kitana was heavily shafted both in costume and story departments. Nevertheless, I am really big fan of the series and I really loved the gameplay. It's possible to like the game and admit that there are some problems with it, be it designs or gameplay. On the other hand, there is MGSV. Despite my big love for the series and the fact that MGS2 has one of the biggest influences on my outlook on what video games could be, I didn't want to play this game, due to the multiple problems, like some designs, story decisions and gameplay. So all in all, I can be turned off the game, when there are more things then one that I dislike. As for diversity - you have already said it - I'd like to see more characters of various ethnicities as long as they nicely written. Often I see people saying characters and going "good enough / at least it's something", i can understand it, but it doesn't really sit well with me, because, "token" character doesn't really feel genuine. Of course, it is case by case thing. There is no such thing as "sacrosanct" games. Everything can be criticized as long as criticism makes sense and not goes into realm of personal taste. If you lost friends because of such stupid shit, it is your problem, not theirs. Zealousy is never good. As this thread proves. Someone in this thread said, that, when people address problematic stuff, some people take it as if ti was personal insult. I see a great irony, that you take my criticism of some people as a personal slight. "Vaguely antagonistic"...What is this? You can't even figure out what I was trying to say, but you still say that I did something bad. OK. "Rude, dismissive, hostile". So many buzzwords. So little meaning. It's like you have a dictionary, which you apply, whenever, possible, with zero understanding and contexts.

What it comes down to, is that a group of people wants games to set a positive example by only including content that they agree with. And I think that's scary. I don't want game developers to encourage certain thoughts or behaviors. I wouldn't trust them with such an important task anyway. Developers shouldn't be lumbered with raising and educating people. Reason The user was warned for this post. Don't make disingenuous arguments to shut down criticism of sexualization in games. Don't equate criticism of fanservice to actual abuse.
Criticizing fanservice and then saying you don't want it banned is the same as verbally abusing a person for their clothes and then expect them to continue wearing them. And in case of video games, where the consumer has all the power and the social media is capable of persuading masses, criticizing fanservice literally leads to less interest from devs in localization and development of such titles. Some publishers now avoid releasing games in the west because of the abuse they receive for their games' content and have to resort to publishing their games in English in Asia to avoid controversy. If this weren't the case, you'd just be wasting your time complaining on the internet ad nauseam. I guess you should be happy knowing that you're affecting the industry with your "harmless" posts.

Bruh, I’m not American and all the sexual harassment going on has nothing to do with me or video games. I’m not a woman, and the devs are allowed to create whatever they want and you’re free to criticise it, that’s your problem. But instead of arguing about something you don’t like constantly expecting it to just change out of nowhere, how about you just ignore it instead and play something you don’t find offensive. Maybe the camera angles show "cleavage and panty shots", but you are the one obsessing over them. I'm sure the camera angles also show faces, feet, shoulders, clavicles, knees, and possibly arm pits. You are the one projecting sexual desire on them. Cleavage is not innately sexual. It is only your sexual repression which makes anything forbidden into something arousing. You make it dirty, not the camera. And I find that shameful because I don't make it dirty, and I find your behavior degrading to women when you reduce them to just a bunch of sexual parts, ignoring their personhood, and remove their agency by telling them how they should be allowed to dress.

GamingThread Why women criticise sexualised character designs (READ OP)
Reason User Banned (1 week): Extremely sexist post, telling women what they can or can't talk about, after coming back from a month-long ban
To a certain extent I agree with OP on females in games. If a game is heavily action or combat oriented and features females performing said action or combat I'd like them to look more the part in terms of having visible muscle tone and being decked out in combat appropriate gear. However, this desire comes from an entirely different place. In my case I simply appreciate the female form and think females actually look cooler than males when they're fit and decked out in battle gear on top of being sexy, it's my own preference. For example if I'm playing an MMO and there's a muscle slider I'll always make full use of it and try to go for outfits that make my female character look like a badass. So if I were in charge of game design I'd make sure any females that are performing in combat look the part, however I would not do away with the eye candy and I'd make said combat appropriate females look idealized and attractive. I'd still have those eye candy females in the game but they'd be entirely there for the sake of fan service and would serve absolutely no role in the combat whatsoever. I love fanservice and the sexualization of females in games, however where I disagree with many other games is that the sexualized eye candy females should not be the playable characters or the ones performing the action. Now let me make clear that I'd still have these eye candy females as the cheerleaders, the maids, or any other non-combat service role since that's honestly where those types of females should be imo, not fighting. I think that if a female is going to be performing on the battlefield she should actually look like she could absolutely fuck shit up. So that'd probably be where I also disagree with OP and those against the sexualization of females in games, I think there's a place for these types of sexualized females and that's it's just a matter of better writing to properly fit these females in the game that makes a good amount of sense. But even disregarding that, this notion that it's somehow "problematic" to have these sexualized females in the game is one that I actually find offensive. Let's just set the record straight here and point out that yes, this sexualization is in fact done for the male gamer and usually something the Dev wants to do. The types of games that sexualize their females where never for any of the people who'd find it offensive to begin with. It's not like there's some kind of plot to demean females through games and promote them to be over sexualized IRL, it's simply something that's done to get the attention of your typical male gamer. So don't treat it like it's this huge problem that needs to be addressed, it absolutely isn't. There are games that don't sexualize females and those are the types of games that OP and those that share that sentiment should focus on. I don't agree with complaining about it because it gives the impression that companies and Devs are somehow doing a bad thing by having these sexualized females in their games, and that simply isn't true. There's nothing sexist about wanting to have an overly sexed out female in a game and enjoying that, it's perfectly normal and doesn't cause any harm to anybody besides those that can't cope with views they don't like and can't, for whatever reason, disregard it. I could make the argument that games which don't sexualize their females are somehow problematic and prudish, but my argument wouldn't be any less valid than those of you complaining about games that do sexualize females, it's all subjective. Nobody is committing any fouls and that's my problem and those that are so negative towards you complaining's problem. You're all on this high-horse and acting like some kind of civil rights issue is at stake, it absolutely isn't and you all really need to tone it down. That this thread is 100+ pages is ridiculous. Not only isn't complaining like this going to not change anything, but will actively set many people against you to defend their hobby from this absurd criticism. Like I've said before, I think Anita is incredibly toxic for even making such an issue about females in games the way she did, because it creates a narrative that she's objectively right and those these companies and Devs are somehow the bad guys when that's just simply not the case. It almost feels like a group of outsiders trying to muscle in and make demands while acting like they're righteous. Stop it.

GamingThread Why women criticise sexualised character designs (READ OP)
Reason User warned: comparing this community to fake feminist trolls on Twitter, mocking their concerns, accusing them of hurting their cause
EDIT after mod warning: It was really not my intention to offend nor mock anyone. I'll stay out of the thread from now on. If someone wants to reach me about it, please use MPs This, and the are the kind of hyperbole i'm talking about. Risque designs doesn't make a game a . Taking on Xenoblade 2, wich is the hot topic today, i can't help but thinking that those are really the designs the artists had in mind, gross or don't, and Monoloth/Nintendo wanted to respect that, and maybe, just there's no ulterior motives behind them. As far as i read about the game it seems to be well written and there's not much focus, if any, on sexualizing the characters whatsoever, wich would contradict the claim of a game and characters designed to pander only a determined demographic. You know, there's a spanish twitter account created by the right-wing forum forocoches posing as a feminist twitter account and dedicated to post ridiculous and overblown statements with objective of hurting the cause. This thread reminds me to that account sometimes, to the point of making me question the validity of some claims. There's also the claims that imply that only sexist otakus buy those games, wich maybe should be taken in account too.

What is stopping people from creating non-sexualuzed designs? Nothing. Apparently they're creating things people want/like. Are you telling me I should not want/like this? Also, effin' lol at people saying shirtless buff men are not the same as sexualuzed women. I'd argue it's worse.

I think you girls are misunderstanding what is happening in that gif. She gets hit on the lower left and that animation is her recovery. So do your boobs move if you get hit form the side?

So THIS is where the scum of the internet known as NEOgaf went their leader got charged for sexual assault. After reading this thread i understand why no other forum wanted to host the refugee users. Hahaha, sorry but you are delusional, just look at Overwatch's popularity. Pussy sells, baby 8) . You can ban me from your moral masturbation white-knighting echochamber now, i said what i wanted to say. Focus on real problems and real women issues like for example the way they get treated like worthless objects in the middle east or india. OH WAIT, you don't give a shit, sorry, i guess that bringing cartoon girls away to some single men is more important. Stay well :)

According to there is no link between videogame consumption and sexist attitudes in gamers. As a matter of fact video games don't need to appeal to anything or anyone. If some games cater to people who want to see T&A it's because they're obviously in demand. Well, who says video games can't be the place for self-indulgence? If somehow everyone was required to play video games I would agree with you, but that's not the case. At the end of the day no one is forced to play anything.

Reason User banned (3 days): repeated "white knights" dog-whistling after warnings, making stuff up about Japan
They not care. The Japanese are more open-minded than other countries in terms of sex. Specifically for my taste they take light years to other countries. They do not have so many prejudices. Thank God, there are no white knights in Japan and that's why we get amazing designs without censorship today. And as much as it bothers some of them this is part of their culture, manga and anime with designs of this type. And it will continue like that without changing, that luck that we have fans of the anime, the manga.

Look in medieval art women were portarayed as morbidly obese. That appeased their wealthy wives. But the athletic village girl and maid was always there. Take the reality behind closed doors as you will. Human height is determined by genes and with proper nutrition the average height went up quite a bit showing a dormant trait spread through many western populations.
